About the Audio-Technica VM670SP

Eric A.

Make vintage 78 rpm records sound fantastic

Years ago, I produced a radio show. The host of the program was an opera fanatic, and he came into the studio every week with a carton brim-full of 78 rpm recordings. It was such a thrill for me to hear those voices from a bygone era. If you also have an emotional connection to those fast-playing gems, the Audio-Technica VM670SP can be your best friend.

The cartridge features a specialized body and internal wiring dedicated to monaural sound reproduction, plus the conical stylus with a large curvature radius really brings out the wonderful sound buried in those old records. Internally connected dual moving magnets reduce surface noise and create a focused center image.

Q
will the "78" stylus from the AT-670 pictured fit the AT-150 series cartridges ?

A
I purchased the VM670SP complete cartridge for the AT-LP120 turntable. . I also purchased the cartridge holder so I could easily flip back and forth between the 33 RPM cartridge which came with the turntable and the 78.

We have not tried this to see if it would work, but if it did, we have concerns about being able to set up the turntable for reading the 78's in the different cartridge without damaging them. I'd recommend contacting Audio-Technica on 330-686-2600 to check if it can be done My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul
