This analog turntable thrives in a digital world

We just love a design that's stylish and practical, and the TEAC TN-400S is a good example of that. It's beautiful to look at, with a gorgeous wood finish, precision-milled aluminum controls, and a graceful S-shaped tonearm.

On the practical side, the built-in phono preamp allows you to connect directly to just about any amplifier or receiver, and a dedicated USB output makes it easy to transfer your albums to your Mac® or Windows® PC for digital archiving. Once you save your favorite classic tunes to your hard drive, they're ready to go with you on your smartphone or other portable listening device.

Hear music, not noise

It's truly impressive how much clever engineering goes into something so pretty to look at. Under the turntable's polished exterior is a heavy MDF base designed to resist external vibration. The turntable's dense die-cast aluminum platter spins on a polished stainless steel spindle and bronze bushing that minimize friction for smooth, silent rotation. Its variable-speed belt-drive system isolates motor vibration, and its ability to play 33-1/3, 45, and 78 rpm discs will delight serious vinyl collectors. The curved aluminum tonearm — equipped with a pre-mounted moving-magnet cartridge — ensures super-accurate tracking and satisfying, rich tonal accuracy.

Enjoy soulful vinyl sound with minimal setup

You want to spend as little time possible setting up your system so you can get to the joy of listening. That's why the TN-400S comes out of the box virtually ready to play. Its pre-matched, factory-mounted phono cartridge and tonearm take the guesswork out of installation, and give you optimized sound quality with minimal effort. A few simple steps to dial in key settings like tracking force and anti-skating are all it takes to get this 'table primed and ready to go.

3-Speeds: The TN-400S will play LPs, EPs, and singles at 33-1/3, 45 and 78 RPM*.

* A special cartridge/stylus assembly (sold separately) is recommended for playing 78 RPM records.

Heavy MDF Plinth: The turntable's heavy MDF plinth is designed to minimize unwanted resonance, while the sleek, walnut or matte bordeaux finishes deliver a sophisticated and stylish accent to fit decor design.

S-Shaped Tone-Arm: The static-balanced S-shape tone-arm with Universal head-shell ensures fast and easy setup and delivers excellent tracking.

Equivalent Audio-Technica AT100E MM Cartridge: The TN-400S comes with a replaceable audio-technica AT100E MM equivalent cartridge designed for highly accurate reading. As soon as you set up the TN-400S you can enjoy the high quality sound with outstanding clarity and detail.

Built-in Phono Equalizer w/ Phono & Line Output: Thanks to its built-in MM Phono equalizer amplifier, the TN-400S supports Phono or Line output which allows you to play vinyl with a stereo that is or isn't equipped with Phono input.

Gold-Plated Terminals: A pair of gold-plated RCA connectors are employed for reliable, durable connection to your receiver's Line Level or Phono input. Gold-plated terminals on the headshell connectors prevent oxidation of the head shell connectors and help to ensure years of reliable performance and to deliver stunning audio fidelity.

Q
I have three Sonos Play 1 speakers, which are hooked up directly to my Wi-Fi. Currently I just stream music from the Sonos app on my tablet to my Play 1's. If I purchase the TN-400S or the TN-300, and want to stream my records on the Play 1's, do I need to purchase the Sonos Connect or the Sonos Connect Amp? Any clarification is greatly appreciated.

I have a TN-400S and am very happy with it. I did upgrade the cartridge. The 400s has a built in pre-amp, so that would plug into the Sonos Connect to add you 400S as a Sonos source. The Sonos Connect amp is for a different purpose. The connect amp becomes part of your Sonos network, retrieves its content from Sonos system and allows you to hook your old traditional, non-WiFi speakers.

We used a stereo receiver and speaker wire to play our TN400S. Stereo receiver hooked to the turntable and speaker wire from the receiver to the speakers. We turn off the pre amp button and the sound is truly amazing. I would think that using the amp would get you a much better sound experience.

Q
Is the walnut finish a veneer?
russell  Dec 09, 2016
1 answer
A
If it is not completely veneered, it is at least partially veneered because there is no end grain anywhere; all six sides are side grained.
daniel p.  Dec 11, 2016
Q
Can you upgrade the cartridge and what about the stylis for playing 78 speed? Can you get one with both in one cartridge. Years ago ,you just flipped the needle over. Ron Perrott
ron  Nov 25, 2016
1 answer
A
The TEAC's belt driver motor supports 78RPM. The provided needle can be used for playing 78RPM records (just adjust the tracking weight) but is also replaceable (standard 0.5" mount) if you prefer to use one that's optimized for that speed. At this time, we do not offer any 78RPM-specific replacement cartridges/styluses. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5
