If the dull, fuzzy music coming from your car's current system is making you dread getting trapped in traffic, a set of Boston Acoustics SE component speakers can transform your ride into a safe haven.

Clean, reliable performance
Boston Acoustics designed the SE50 component speaker system to make your favorite music sound clean and natural in your ride, and they use proven materials that'll stand up to life on the road. The system includes two 5-1/4" woofers, two 3/4" tweeters, and two crossover networks.

Convenient customizable mounting
Each woofer uses a sturdy copolymer cone teamed up with durable butyl rubber surround to deliver strong performance with minimal distortion. The carbon-injected polymer dome tweeter gives you clear, focused highs that stay smooth, even when you turn the volume up. The included mounting cups give you three mounting options for the tweeters, so you can aim them toward your ears for the best sound. You can dock the two crossover networks together or install them separately, whichever works best in your installation.

Now you can discover the sonic difference that a nice set of separate component speakers can make. Boston's extensive research and testing pay off with accurate, consistent performance, so you can enjoy reliable, lifelike sound whenever you drive.

The sound quality is so much better & the amp isn't in yet. I can hear the music instruments better than ever. Installment was easy w/ the kits & instructions.

Big waste of money! Glad I bought them on sale. They look good in the trash can.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Bad sound

Great!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got the Boston Acoustics SE50 to replace my factory bose system in my 2006 envoy. I wanted to get around the bose system because i felt like i lost sound quality through the GMOS adapter. I mounted a speaker in the dash so i still have door chimes though. I first powered the speakers off my pioneer head unit and the sound was okay. then i added a 4 channel amp and they came alive. I custom made a bracket so the tweeters fit perfectly in the factory location. They are very clear. The highs and mids are great but lower end is okay but thats to be expected from a 5 1/4 speaker and thats what my kicker subs are for. Very high quality at a price that didnt break the bank.

Pros: Great!

Cons:

Not there yet

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these due to low power rating to replace my stock speakers with Factory Head Unit DON' T do it. Even though is adjusted my sound stage with the mounting of the tweeter close to the ear you can barely hear these things the factory speaker is loader and has much bass. However I plan to replace my head unit and will have to hold my full review until then.

Cons:

new sound

Great Sound, good install

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound great in the rear doors of my 2009 Toyota Tundra. The install was straight forward, relatively easy to find a place for the crossover in the door. The best location for the tweeter was just forward of the inside door handle, plenty of room for the flush mount and the back of the speaker. The only thing I did not like about the units was the tweeter mount. I could never get both clips to grab at the same time, it was either one or the other. I also did not like the look of the exposed clips, there should have been a bit neater way to cover the install. Had I looked a bit closer at the pics. I would have picked this up earlier.

Pros: Good install, small crossover. The price was excellent.

Cons: Not so great mounting hardware for the tweeter. Instructions were a bit vague.

Got these to replace stock system. A nice upgrade, to a limited system. Wish they were a tad bigger, for the price.

Pros: Great price.

Cons: A tad on the small size.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Before I bought these se50's i was reading all the reviews and some were talking about how much bass they are not getting from these component speakers. These are speakers (like most components) that are made to bring out the highs and mids in your system with enormous clarity and quality and in my opinion (being modest) are meant to be played with a separate subwoofer. These speakers are perfect if one is trying to have an entire system, add the right amp and the clarity increases much more. If you are looking for bass in your door speakers instead of your trunk then there are a lot of 6/9's that will do the trick. Furthermore, these components are exceptionally well for what they are made for. With the right installation, the tweeters can make your interior look better as well...I would definitely recommend these speakers to any one that crave those highs that regular speakers just don't get!

Pros: The crossover is small compared to most all other crossovers and fits anywhere in my SUV Sound Quality!

Cons: Not real cons for me but there is some splicing and some cutting to do. Trying to figure out where to install the tweeters but its your car so no manual can tell you how to be creative

Pretty good for the money.

I was a little surprised at the lack of performance on the low end, but I wasn't buying a separate subwoofer. Overall, these speakers sound really nice for the price. I recommend them.

Pros: Good overall sound.

Cons: Not great on bass.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What a steal/deal! Tweeters are brilliant; woofers add a nice midbass to my '03 F150; and x-overs fit in by doors just fine. 50 watts RMS feeding these speakers is plenty to get GREAT volume and clarity from them! What an upgrade over my previous 3-way Pioneer 5x7 speaker!!!

Pros: high sensitivity, simple design, GREAT price, legendary reputation, 2 year warranty, and several tweeter mounting options

Cons: really? price+brand=a no brainer

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

very nice speakers, sound gorgeous, with no distortion until a VERY loud volume. Paired up with a kenwood excelon head unit, and a sound ordinance amp, these are not easy to beat especially for the price! I found it a bit tricky to install these with the large crossover, but i ended up putting it in the compartment in the door; would rather hidden, but oh well. all in all a good buy!

Pros: get very loud without distortion,

Cons: large crossover too thick to fit anywhere

Great Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Was wondering if I could install these in my 08 Yaris Sedan. I did it. Cut hole in door panel, just below the door handle with a spade drill bit. Tweeters fit in hole perfectly, looks like a factory install, if I do say so myself. Mounted crossovers on a foam block, inside the door panels. I think the 6.5 inch speakers would have fit with no problem, but these sound excellent, compared to the cheap factory speakers. Very pleased with them. Using stock head unit, plenty powerfull enough for me.

Pros: Boston Acoustic quality.

Cons: None

Nice sound but...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers do sound nice. It's everything else that is holding them back. The instructions included were awful. The tweeter wires had specials ends on them so had to be used but were way too short. I doubt anyone would be able to use them as sent so, I had to splice into them. They included longer wire but, it is the old school one side cooper one side nickel. I honestly have no idea one they even included wire if that was what they could afford to put in the box. Worst is the tweeter mounting system. One side looks really bad because the pieces fit together so poorly. Last Boston product I will ever buy!

Cons:

Clear Sound

Not as good as the Polk Audio I had in my Blazer But on my budget they were a Great buy, I wish my Riviera could fit larger than 5 1/4" in the doors but all things considered they have nice clarity, and will only sound better once I hook up an amp.

Boston Acoustics SE50

sid from wisconsin on 8/8/2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

big difference from my 10+ year old stock pioneer coax speakers. The tweeter wire is short so had to use some of the supplied speaker wire to reach the crossover. Requires using the graphic equalizer settings in HU as preset settings shall made the Cs and the Ss sound too sharp from the tweeter. Good thump from the 5.25 inch woofers. Easy setup for a first timer DIY.

Pros:

Cons:

Great Sound

These are great quality speakers. I had no problems installing them in my bmw E39, and they sound awesome. A huge improvement over the factory speakers. The lows could be a bit lower, but i plan on installing a sub system anyway, so that doesn't matter. I would highly recommend these to anyone looking to replace their factory speakers.
