A bit disappointed - Sadly had to return.
1965 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Good quality product but had to return due to the size of the hole for the speakers. I researched both a new car stereo for my 65 Mustang as well as kick panels that were ready for speakers. I found what I liked from Retrosound (specs etc.) Since I have been ordering from Crutchfield since the late 80's that was my first stop. The problem was the Retrosound site listed the full specs of the kick panels without speakers and stated "Fit most 6.5 (6 1/2") inch speaker systems" I already had brand new Pioneer 6 1/2" three way speakers so I was not interested in purchasing speakers or kick panels with speakers included witch they also sell. When I went to mount the speakers the holes in the panel were too big. The cutout was approx 5 5/8" but the speakers needed a 4 7/8" cutout. There was nothing for the speed nuts/screws to attach to. Crutchfield support was great and did indicate that even though the manufacturer indicated 6.5" speaker specs on their site Crutchfield specifically states "6 3/4 speakers" in the specs. Crutchfield suggested using some Scosche SAC-656 brackets and even offered to send them! I just didn't feel there would be enough strength/support (and weaker with 4 screw holes and a bracket to bridge the space gap) in the thin fiberglass panel to last. There would be too much flex and stress unless everything was bolted solid. So I elected to return the kick panels. I ordered some custom autosound panels and with a 1/2" spa
Pros: Good quality
Cons: Confusing on what speakers fit the panel. Specs on the Retrosound site indicate 6 1/2" inch speaker. However Crutchfield seems more accurate at 6 3/4" I feel 6 1/2" is a more commonly available speaker. I felt that these kick panels were in a way forcing you to purchase the Retrosound R-612 6 3/4" speakers (they have listed as 6 1/2") or finding another 6 3/4"
