Product Research

Features

USB/Aux Extension Cable: This USB/Auxiliary extension cable can be panel-mounted or even mounted beneath the dash with optional under-dash housing (068USBMOUN; sold separately). It features a 53" extension of both a USB input and a standard 3.5mm auxiliary input. This can be used to add a USB port and auxiliary input in place of the factory cigarette lighter or almost anywhere in your classic car or truck.

  • This extension will support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on in-dash receivers that are equipped with a 1.5A USB port.
  • It is not compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto receivers with USB ports rated lower than 1.5A.
  • This extension cable should not be used in conjunction with another USB extension cable (regardless of USB port rating).

Q
Does this port/cable play nice with Apple? Sometimes Apple gets hincky with cords.

A
This extension cable does work well with Apple products. In regards to Apple Carplay specifically, it will not support receivers that have USB inputs lower than 1.5A.

Q
Is this compatible with JVC KW-M560BT head unit? The JVC has an aux input identified as mini. Is there a difference between this aux and a mini?

Q
Will this work with a kw-v220BT jvc tpuch screen radio?
keaton  Jun 12, 2020

A
I bought this for my system. Works great. It will work for any system because it is basically a simple patch cable. My only struggle was getting it to fit correctly in the hole in the dash. But ultimately it looks great. Recommended.

Q
Can the cables be shorten?
tim  Nov 24, 2019

A
Ends are molded so to shorten you would have to cut and splice the wire in the middle somewhere. Wouldn't recommend it. Just bundle the excess under the dash
matthew  Nov 24, 2019
A
Generally the extra wire is behind the dash. In order to shorten the wires properly you will need some skill. Just not sure why you would.

Q
I just replaced the OEM radio with one with Android Auto support. I would like to replace the lighter with a USB port and connect this replacement to the dongle on the new radio. Will this work?
kent  Jun 02, 2019

A
Hi Kent! While this USB would work in the lighter location of your vehicle, it does not support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, unfortunately. However, this PAC USB mounting system will give you the same mounting ability, and will work perfectly with your new receiver with Android Auto! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_541USBDMA6/PAC-USBDMA6.html?search=usb_mount

Q
Can the 3.5mm plug support video? I am looking for an extension cable that can both plug into the rear usb port and rear av-in port (which is a 3.5mm port) of a kenwood received. Thanks.

A
I am pretty sure it cannot. mono has 2 zones, stereo has 3 zones, and video has 4 zones on the plug. This one his a stereo plug. One zone between the black bands of insulation is negative. Everything is grounded through this one. mono sends the hot through one spot to the device and returns to ground or negative. Stereo sends left and right hot signals. And video sends video, left and right hot signals and they all return through ground.

The ken wood requires both the USB and the 3.5mm port to support an iPad or iPod. Don't have an iPhone so cannot comment there. If iPad is important then the Bluetooth connection can be used. Then the 3.5mm port can be used for video, though I have not tried that. However it is only two connections, right and left. So if video requires 3 connections then that is out.

I am sorry i can't answer this yet i have not hooked it up yet
timothy j  Dec 21, 2014

It would depend on your head unit. The set up for the cable is designed to pass audio. For my pioneer head unit I can use Hdmi input or rca jacks. Be careful though. I found that the jacks are very loose. I had to slightly bend the lip to hold the cables that I plug up to it. Works great otherwise.
alice  Dec 21, 2014
A
It's a standard 3.5mm extension cord so it should work as well as any other one. I use mine for audio only and works great. High quality products.
