Axxera's AV714BH multimedia receiver includes a 7" LED-backlit display, so you can enjoy HD-quality video and icon-based touchscreen control in your car. Axxera stuffed all this functionality into a single-DIN (2" tall) chassis with a motorized, retractable screen, so it stays stealthy when it's not in use.

Axxera AV714BH DVD receiver

The AV714BH includes an MHL-enabled HDMI input to accommodate compatible iPhone® or Android® smartphones. It also comes with Bluetooth®, DVD/CD playback, front and rear USB inputs, an SD card input for your digital music, and a redesigned graphic user interface (GUI) that provides you a complete multimedia experience for your car.

A bigger display for your smartphone apps

Axxera's DualMirror™ function mimics your phone's display on the receiver's big screen, providing you an easier way to see your apps at a glance. You can check out turn-by-turn directions from your navigation apps, as well as artist and track info from your music apps. You'll still use your smartphone to control the apps, but you won't have to squint at its puny display.

What you need

The AV714BH's DualMirror function relies on the receiver's rear HDMI input to display your smartphone's apps, while the rear USB port charges your phone. With your smartphone connected, you'll see your apps in action on the 7" display for easier viewing. Here's the lowdown on what you need depending on your smartphone:

On the audio side

If you enjoy Internet radio on your iPhone or Android, you'll really enjoy playing music from Pandora® on this versatile receiver. You can scroll through your stations, bookmark songs, and give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down right from the receiver's face. You can also play your MP3 and WMA music using the front USB input, DVD/CD player, and SD card slot.

You can tweak your music with the four EQ presets, and the treble and bass controls. If you're adding amps, the three sets of preamp outputs send out a 4-volt signal that maximizes performance and minimizes noise.

Video possibilities

Use the AV714BH's front or rear analog audio/video inputs to hook up your favorite portable audio player, game console, or another video source. This receiver boasts a video output to send movies to a rear video screen, so your passengers will stay happy during the longest road trips.

If you've got a big vehicle, you'll appreciate the input for a rear-view camera — helpful for when you're maneuvering your vehicle in tight spaces.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Easy to install and great sound but it takes a while to figure out how to work all the functions.

Pros: All the extras are great. Great sound. Easy to install. Screen is big and bright.Dvd's look good on screen.

Cons: A little complicated to work . Takes time to figure out how to work all functions. Remote buttons are really small.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this receiver for it's touch screen and ease of use. It delivered everything I wanted and then some. Not only is it easy to use but it has a great sound too. It was easy to install and it took longer to get the old radio out than to put the new one in. The touch screen goes in and out smoothly with no noise. I am very satisfied with it.

Pros: The unit came with instructions that were easy to understand. It looks like it always was in the car. The video screen and the back up camera a very clear.

Cons: The operating instructions on the receiver leave something to be desired. I have not yet gotten my Android phone to mirror onto the screen.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off, my experience with Crutchfield was hands down the BEST online shopping experience hands down. They were down to business and got me all the information necessary for the task even when I messed up my order. So do not go anywhere else! I'm 18 years old and this was my first stereo change ever, I have had no experience but wanted to do it and crutchfield and Axxera made it easy with a few electrical definitions via Google. I put this into my 2005 Ford Mustang and it looks great and gets an "awe" factor every time. It really unlocked my sound and bass compared to the stock stereo. I was just a tad upset at the screen quality and I still haven't completely figured all the options. It's what you pay for. If you want some great high tech stereo maybe put down another 150 dollars but for this price I'm very very pleased.

Pros: Really brought my sound to the next level, Bluetooth, "awe" factor, And price

Cons: screen resolution, screen sensitivity, and user interface

Great value, cool design, a bit disappointing..

Very cool looking, great value, easy to install with all adaptors provided by Crutchfield!

Pros: Design, retractable screen, sound quality, ease of use, mirroring phone (phone gps on screen!)

Cons: Dimming screen is a joke! At night it's very bright and in the morning screen very reflective and hard to see @ an angle..

    Great Product Super Support

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this device in our Barbeque support trailer to provide tunes and TV support for overnight gigs. I had not installed an after market device in a vehicle since my 1979 VW Bus many years ago. I was amazed at the functionality this will provide for the reasonable cost. Best part, given my age and lack of recent experience was the availability of both on-line and telephone support. Our BBQ trailer in now a real RV!

    Pros: Functionality for the money.

Cons: Lack of detailed written instructions--I was not familiar with all the shorthand terminology--had to ask too many questions.

    2002 GMC Sierra 1500
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this receiver in my 2002 GMC Sierra about a week ago, and I couldn't be more please. The sound quality that it added to my vehicle was definitely noticeable. It fits great in a 2002 GMC Sierra, even though the fit guide on Crutchfield says it won't. The only issue, is that when you open or close the flip screen, and the vehicle is in park, you have to pull the shifter forward. This a very small inconvenience for the price and quality of the DVD player. The sound quality when playing a DVD is even better then radio, or Bluetooth. The Bluetooth connection works great, the only draw back, is when you have the duel mirror (Samsung S5) function going, the Bluetooth will not work, but you can still stream music through the connection fine, just not aswer calls. The connection cable (sold separately) will charge the phone, but if you are using the duel mirror for navigation and streaming at the same time the amount of charging does not match the energy usage, so the phone will drain faster than it is charged. So, in closing there are a couple inconveniences, but over all a great product.

Pros: Great single din DVD reciever, with good sound and functionality.

Cons: Bluetooth wont work while in duel mirror, and phone doesn't charge fast enough when using dual mirror (Samsung S5)

    2006 Jeep Commander
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was leary of this since it was not a popular name brand. And good luck on finding a great review or working pictures online of this product. But I will do my best to review what I ran into while installing the stereo and I have been using it now for over a week. First off I will say the sound quality is great. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it sounds. That being said there is an interesting issue I have found so far. When I set the loudness on I have noticed that even at one the radio still seems to be pretty loud so I have turned the loudness off and I just use the equalizer to try and gain better sound. That does not seem to be any issues that hinder the performance of the radio. With the dash mount that came with the radio that Crutchfield supplied I noticed that either A) this radio is larger than the normal radio or B) the dash mount is smaller than the normal radio. After reading several reviews of the dash mount I believe it's not the radio. The second thing that I have found that might not be the greatest is when I push on the touch screen sometimes it goes back and hits the dashboard instead of being sturdy and not moving at all. Those seem to be the real issues I have found with the unit so far. I installed it into a 2006 Jeep Commander and the Jeep Commander already sounded good with the factory radio but this does a lot better job. the DVD function of this radio seems to work flawlessly! The screen sharing function works.I would recommend this radio!

Pros: great price, works great, sounds great, great functions

Cons: The screen is not as sturdy as it should be.

Overall a good product. Installation is ok, not knowing about the brake and backup wire-in's was difficult but not overwhelming. It takes some getting used to when using the system. but the coolness factor and value more than makeup for its lacking in ease of use.

Pros: Very cool for the price.

Cons: brake and backup wire-in's need better explanation as well as diagrams.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great unit for the price, especially when I factored in that I wanted a new stereo with bluetooth and I also wanted to install a backup camera so I was going to need a screen for that as well. Had it installed by a professional and he had a bit of trouble with the screen hitting the dash so he had to modify it a bit but not a big problem.

Pros: This made my factory speakers sound awesome. Works great with my backup camera. Love that when the screen is folded in that it doesn't look like the unit is anything special that someone might want to steal.

Cons: Haven't figured out how to get the screen mirroring to work with my phone yet. The beep it makes when there is an incoming call is loud and makes me jump every time. LOL

Radio is pretty cool. Can't select music with the touchscreen through Bluetooth. Otherwise it's great.

Pros: Mic and hardware for comunications with touching the phone. Backup can is easy to install.

Cons: Is not USB compatible with the iPhone! The back USB port will charge the iPhone only. Otherwise, use BT for phone music.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am extremely happy with the purchase of this indash unit, I've paid more for less quality in the past so I was a skeptic at first, but I'm ultimately glad I pulled the trigger on this one. Exactly what your looking for in performance especially for this price. I had to pay a little extra due to my jeep having Boston acoustics but man the sound quality is on another level.

Pros: Sleek folded design, adjustable tilt angles, smartphone screen mirroring, excellent sound quality.

Cons: Complete head unit is a little thicker than most single dins so you may have to file or fabricate just a bit but nothing major.

    1992 Ford Bronco
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in my '92 Ford Bronco (same as a Ford F150 for model years 92-96). Fits perfectly, and no issues with the screen striking the dashboard when it flips up. The build quality seems decent enough. My truck isn't the smoothest riding vehicle out there, so I needed something fairly rugged. This unit definitely fits that ticket. I've only been using it for a week, but so far all is good. As someone else commented, the documentation provided from Axxera is pretty weak. If the factory wiring harness in your vehicle was cut (as mine was), it takes a little thought to figure out how everything fits together. It's not rocket science. Given all the features, this unit is a good value for the price.

Pros: Build quality is solid. This appears to be a reasonably rugged unit. The one thing it does do, which I've seen higher-end units fail at, is close the flip-up screen when the vehicle is turned-off. It will also re-open when the car is started, and it remembers the tilt angle you set the screen at as well. Given the features, you get a good deal of bang for you buck with this stereo.

Cons: Despite the fact that this unit has some pretty advanced features... there are some rather simple things it does not do. On the radio side, RDS (displaying radio call-letters; or artist/song titles) seems to be something fairly universal with newer head units - but, this unit doesn't do it. For me, not a big deal, but I would have expected it given the "newness" of this product. I wished I could comment on the dual-mirror features, but I got the wrong cable with my shipment.

    Nice receiver

    1996 Ford F Series
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a nice unit, just installed it in my 96 F250. The main thing that I am disappointed in is that you cannot use more than one function at a time. For example if you are using the dual mirror function you cannot listen to the radio at the same time (unless I just haven't figured it out yet). Overall though I'm really happy with it, the video quality is pretty good!

Pros: Good video quality, nice design.

Cons: Can't use the dual mirror and other functions at the same time.

Pros: Super sharp looking lots of nice features on inexpensive u it also comes with microphone and bluetooth

Cons: Needed to do a lot of modifying to get to fit correctly, DIN that comes with it doesn't fit had to modify and cut apart to get installation done, dual mirror works but then will cut out still troubleshooting if it is an cord or unit

I have been using it for a week now and it has performed flawlessly. The BT connects as as soon as the radio is powered on. This dvd receiver is worth consideration as an alternative to the more expensive brands

Pros: This receiver has features you will be able to find in the other big brands but at a considerable price increase.

Cons: The only negative for me is the lowest volume setting (1) still seems a little too loud

MOSFET Amplifier: The Axxera AV714BH is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the AVH714BH are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 18 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 60 watts x 4 channels (240 watts total)
Note: The power specifications for the AV714BH are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

4V/6Ch RCA Outputs: The AV714BH features front, rear and subwoofer 4-volt RCA outputs. The front and rear speaker RCA outputs are balance and fade adjustable. The subwoofer RCA output is non-fading.

Audio Settings: The Axxera DVD receiver features the following preset EQ curves (Jazz, Rock, Classical, Pop, & User) to customize your music listening. In User mode, you can adjust the head unit's Bass & Treble manually. The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can even set the head unit to turn-on to the last volume level adjustment when turned off, or turn-on to a pre-defined volume level (0-40) every time you power up the radio.

Note: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation (this can be turned On or Off).

Dual AV Inputs/Video Output: The Axxera AV714BH DVD receiver is fitted with two audio/video inputs. There is a front-panel 3.5mm audio/video input for connecting a temporary external AV source, such as a MP3 player or game console. There is also a rear-panel composite video/stereo RCA input for connection of a permanent external audio/video source, such as a Blu-ray player or TV tuner. In addition, the DVD receiver features two rear-panel composite video outputs for integration of a ceiling-mounted or headrest entertainment system in your vehicle.

Rear-View Camera Input: The Camera Input consists of a Composite video RCA jack for connecting an optional rear-view back-up camera (sold separately). This RCA input enables you to connect a rear-view camera to display the area behind your vehicle. The increased view encourages and facilitates safer driving. When an optional rearview camera is connected to this unit, the rear view image is displayed on the screen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (brown wire of harness must be connected to reverse light wire of vehicle). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.25 seconds. Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.

It works with my iPhone 6plus, have not tried the 5s yet but I think it's going to work too. Hope this will help. [ DON  Oct 01, 2015 ]
    Yes, it does [ kahlin  Sep 30, 2015 ]
The answer is no, you can play music on your phone while navigating but not on the system. [ Bruce  Mar 16, 2015 ]
I don't believe so, it is a mode like radio or cd but I will try it and get back to you [ Bruce  Mar 15, 2015 ]
Music will play until the turn prompt cuts in. [ Alan  Mar 15, 2015 ]
what are you talking about specifically? Blutooth? Mirrorlink? It should connect to any device that has BT capability. The mirrorlink only mentions smartphones. I do not have a ipod, just an Iphone so could not be for certain if the mirrowlink works with any type of ipod. My guess would be yes if you have the ios that supports output of a hdmi signal. Ron [ Ronald  Feb 25, 2015 ]
I'm not sure since I don't have the iPod touch 4Th gen to try but it's worked perfectly with my iPhone 6plus. Hope this will help. [ DON  Feb 25, 2015 ]
Yes... as long as you have AV to AV (headphone to headphone) cable [ Noma  Feb 23, 2015 ]
It works with bluetooth, both music and phone. It also has a USB port on the front. Hope this helps. [ BARBARA  Feb 22, 2015 ]
yes. i play pandora and either use google nav or waze and it will play both. as long as you have it set up to use bluetooth and the hdmi connector. i had to buy an additional connector so my samsung note 4 will be compatible since it doesnt recognise mini hdmi. [ CHAD  Jan 20, 2015 ]
Yes , it also has a setting to where it will change the level of brightness by the time of the day you set it to dim . They also have great customer service . Actually surprised me on a fit issue I had . [ Matty  Jan 25, 2015 ]
Yes. There are at least 3 brightness levels. Hit the icon at the top of the screen that looks kind of like a sun. [ GREGORY  Jan 16, 2015 ]
Yes, however that feature appears to be somewhat limited. There is essentially a clock setting which allows you to toggle between a daylight setting and a night-time setting for brightness (you must enter in the times you want the radio to switch between the two brightness levels). I haven't looked to see if there are other user settings which would allow you to use any other brightness settings other than a pre-set daytime and nighttime setting. [ Jeff  Jan 15, 2015 ]
Yes, the unit will allow you to adjust the brightness of the screen. [ Christopher  Jan 15, 2015 ]
Is there a way to get it to play music off an iPod touch? [ Justyn  Feb 20, 2015 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The Axxess AV714BH's screen will always retract when it is powered off. There is not any way to make the screen stay out when the unit is not powered up. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
