Pandora® control with your iPhone®

Your streaming media doesn't have to take a back seat when you slip behind the wheel. The AXM230 offers Pandora Internet radio control with your iPhone. Once you're plugged into the receiver's front-panel USB input, you can take charge of your existing stations, create new stations, and rate songs with a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down," right from the face of the receiver. And you'll be charging your phone while it's connected, too.

Plenty of playback options

You can connect your iPod®, iPhone, or a USB drive to the front-panel USB port, so you'll have the ability to browse through the tunes in your music library with the receiver's control knob. And you'll find both front and rear auxiliary inputs for any other devices you've brought along.

More features

Axxera equips the AXM230 with a 3-band EQ for sound adjustment, as well as a remote control for your backseat passengers. Two pairs of preamp outputs let you add amps and subs for a high-powered system. And Axxera protects this receiver with their 2-year warranty.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Axxera stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Axxera, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

This digital media receiver will not play CDs. If you want to play CDs in your vehicle, we offer a wide selection of CD receivers.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

    Axxera Performs as Advertised

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Axxera performs as expected and came with easy to follow instructions. The only "miss" was not seeing any directions that spelled out the need to remove the Axxera trim and to substitute the accompanying kit trim in order for everything to mount smoothly in the dash. Good product. Happy customer.

    Decent for the price

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This deck is an excellent value, most headunits of this price range have really crummy displays. But you get what you pay for... mine has some kind of bug in the setup menu when you try to set the clock. It's basically an issue with the highlighted field not actually reflecting the setting, e.g. trying to set the time is actually adjusting the 12/24 hour format setting. It's possible to work around and it's not something that needs to be done often, so it's not worth a return.

Pros: Nice display, very simple interface, nice price. Passengers will assume you paid a lot more than you did and are likely to be able to figure out how to use the thing.

Cons: No radio preset buttons, you have to cycle through them with up/down buttons. Difficult to adjust display brightness. USB mode supports only MP3 and WMA, not Apple AAC (I'm in the process of converting a bunch of my music now...). The headunit display cycles between an informational display and screensaver-type background, which is fine with me but doesn't appear to be customizable. SD card support would have been nice. My buggy setup menu suggests poor quality control on the unit in general.

    Great Deck!

This is a great entry level deck. The screen is vibrant and looks fantastic in my 1996 Mustang. Fantastic value for the price.

Pros: Great screen. Easy to install. iPod/iPhone control. Front Aux Input.

Cons: Entry level sound. Needs USB jacks on rear. More rear inputs.

Excellent radio hands down for the cost, The color and coolness factor is great, I have own a lot of different stereo systems from top of the line to the bottom if you will. This Axerra brand radio was the first time I've heard of such brand which I found out later is another brand renaming them selves. I was a little reluctant to buy it but I have never had a bad purchase from Crutchfield and still haven't.

Pros: Install and set up is easy, coolness factor, color of stereo, the USB output on face of unit, aux output, Pandora capable, iPhone/iPad capable remote control, turn knob for volume which I have found over the many years is more reliable then push button style. Has a lot of adjustments for the fine tuning like the high dollar units. VALUE!!! You get a lot for the $

Cons: FM/AM Stations are not one button selection, Have to push seek till radio finds station,

If you have no experience installing stereos, than the instructions aren't as detailed as they should be . My dad has to watch several YouTube videos to find out how to install it . Otherwise, the stereo is perfect. I'm just ticked that I paid for extra things that they said I needed , but didn't really need. Like the antenna adapter

    Entry Level Radio

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Cool looks, nice screen, flashy radio, thats about all the good if your into that kind of thing, sound quality is no better than a factory radio, Subwoofer control is aweful, the blue of the buttons is way to bright for my taste and has no way to dim it down, biggest complaint is you have to set a tune for each audio source, so if you have 5 sources, you have to tune this radio 5 times, if your used to a high end radio like i am than stay way away from this thing, if your going for looks than this radio is for you, if you want great sound, then go get a pioneer from the same price range

Pros: Cool looks if you want to show off

Cons: Sound quality, tuning capability, bright blue LEDs with no dimmer, slow jerky animations

    Great bargain receiver

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great entry level deck. Price and quality are good. I've had a couple of Dual's receivers before and wasn't real impressed. They did well in designing the new Axxera line. After adjusting Hz, bass, treble, and high levels the sound coming from my 6x9's and component 6" is pretty darn impressive. Also like that you can adjust the gain of all inputs. Mid to high level receiver at a very affordable price. Love the adjustability. VERY IMPRESSED! WELL DONE.

Pros: Adjustability Good looks Ease of operation, very intuitive.

    Cons: Vague and basic instructions.

    Excellent Head Unit

    2009 Nissan Altima
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This head unit is unbelievably good. The display is very attractive and easy to read. Axxera should win some sort of award for the menu system, they are the best menus of any head unit that I have ever used. I cannot stress enough how great they are: when you push the menu button, the first menu screen pops up; when you push menu again, the next menu pops up; you can cycle through all the menus with just one button. For those two reasons alone, I highly recommend this head unit. It also doesn't hurt that it is cheaply priced. The only feature lacking is an auto dimmer. This is, in my opinion, the best bang for the buck digital media deck.

Pros: Great display, intuitive menus, great price

    Cons: No auto dimmer

    AM/FM + Pandora Radio

AM/FM Tuner: The Axxera AXM230 features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. You can store up to 18 FM station presets and 12 AM station presets (manually or automatically). The Local function allows only strong radio stations to be received, blocking stations with weaker signals. You can even switch the tuner between USA or European tuning.

Pandora App: The Pandora App (free) lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Axxera AXM230 using your connected Apple iPhone, via the Dock- or Lightning-to-USB cable supplied with your iPhone. The AXM230 provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account.

    • Station List: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically (A-Z).
    • QuickMix: QuickMix allows you to listen to songs played on one or more Pandora stations in your Station List randomly. You will need to edit your QuickMix station selections on the iPhone before connection.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada and only available in the United States.

    Audio Section

MOSFET Amplifier: The Axxera AXM230 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the AXM230 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the AXM230 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 18 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 60 watts x 4 channels (240 watts total)

4V/4Ch Preamp Outputs: The Axxera AXM230 is equipped with two pair of 2-Volt preamp outputs (Front, R/Sub). The R/Sub preamp output can be switched between a rear-channel full-range output or a non-fading subwoofer preamp output.

Subwoofer Control: When the subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can adjust the output level (0-12) of the sub preamp output. You can also set the low-pass crossover to 80, 120, 160Hz, or Through (full-range).

Equalizer: The Axxera digital media receiver features the following preset EQ curves (Flat, Pop, Jazz, Classic, Beat, Rock, or User) to customize your music listening. The User mode activates a 3-Band EQ which lets you adjust Bass, Midrange, & Treble manually. EQ settings are stored for each source.

    3-Band EQ
    Frequency Level
    Bass 60, 80, 100, 200 Hz -6 to +6
    Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 kHz  -6 to +6
    Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 kHz -6 to +6

Loudness: The Loudness function enhances the bass & treble frequencies at low volumes.

Source Volume Level: The Source Volume Level control allows a gain adjustment for each audio source (Tuner, Aux, USB, iPod, Pandora). You can set the source volume level (+/-6dB) for each mode, depending on the relative volume of each audio source.

Program Volume: You can set the AXM230 to power-on to the same volume level (0-30) every time.

Key Beep: When this function is enabled, every button press will output a beep tone.

    Display Features

Detachable Fold-Down Face: The Axxera AXM230 features a manual fold-down face-plate. The head unit's face-plate is detachable to deter theft. A hard-plastic face-case is provided. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can also be purchased for this unit.

Note: The head unit needs 1.75" of clearance in front of it for the face-plate to fold down.

3" LCD Screen: The Axxera AXM230 features a 3" QVGA (320x240) TFT LCD screen with 3D-like background graphics. The 3" screen provides enough room to display song, artist, and album information at the same time.

Screen Adjustments: You can adjust the color, contrast, and brightness of the LCD screen.

Text Scroll: You can change the scrolling style used for displayed information on the LCD screen. Choose from Off (no scrolling), Once (scrolls once), 15 Secs (scrolls once per 15 seconds), and On (constantly scrolls).

12/24 Hour Clock: The unit's built-in clock can be set to 12-hour or 24-hour mode.

Power-On Message: This feature allows a "Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening" text message to be shown on the unit's LCD screen when it is powered on.

Demo Mode: You can enable or disable the  units demonstration mode.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The AXM230 comes supplied with an 18-button IR wireless remote control which provides complete control of the Axxera digital media receiver.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).
