    Dual MGH30BT

Kevin from Winder, GA on 11/21/2016

I bought in may 2015this was my 3rd radio trying to get sound I was looking for in my 19.5 run-a-bout. Installed great, sounded awesome finally the sound I wanted. The display started fogging up and it gets Hot. Mid summer 2015 display quit completely. Still works just can't see what it's doing. Called Dual and left message about issues and have not heard back from them yet. 3 days. Do not want to spend the money on a new one after reading these reviews.

Pros: Display Sound and power Bluetooth

Cons: Heat Fogged display Short wires

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great purchase; easy install, matched up well with two MTX WET65-W 6-1/2" Marine 2-way Speakers, sound is remarkable for the low profile design and total cost. Don't forget to purchase a marine antenna if net new. I wasn't thinking and ended up ordering one a few days after I realized that a radio signal would be nice. It does get toasty and the inside of the display will develop moisture and because of that it gets a 4. Otherwise, it's a great unit.

Pros: Marine Certified IPX6 Waterproof Zero Current Draw Remote Control Bluetooth Audio Streaming iPod/iPhone Control Bypass iPod DAC Aux Input Audio Section MOSFET Amplifier

    Cons: Internal Moisture

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this to replace a larger unit in a center counsel. Removed one of the 3" cages from dash that I never used and it slipped right in - 10 minute install. The AM/FM reception is strong with remote antenna, but if you link it to your phone via Bluetooth, it ROCKS - the display mirrors what s playing on your phone, so you can safely store your phone away in a glove box or your pocket and still control your songs while pounding the waves. The only negative I have found so far is that it gets fogged up inside the face right away when you turn it on (That is why it is not a 5 star review) - but then it seems to go away after a while....we'll see if that effects performance, but so far, so good!

Nice compact unit for a Polaris 900 XP Razor.

Pros: Sounds great and installed it directly in one of the spare drink holders. Well protected and I use the remote to volume and functions.

    Cons: None so far

    Dual MGH30BT Reviews

FredA from Buena Vista, NJ on 4/13/2015

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is one of the few compact marine digital stereo receivers on the market that will play digital music from a flash drive with a random play option. I go on long fishing trips, and I can set up a pre-programed sound track for the trip that plays my favorite music for ever. Crutchfield staff was excellent in helping me determine that this unit would meet my needs.

Pros: It is small and compact, plays digital music, the color screen is easy to see and has beautiful graphics, the controls are understandable, the remote works well, and it sounds great.

Cons: The exact digital music capacity is an unknown, and the unit generates significant heat.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this receiver because of the compact design, good looks, and great functionality. It is easy to use, and has very good sound characteristics when used with the Dual DMS652 speakers. While this receiver is designed for marine use, I adapted it for use in a somewhat unconventional is mounted in the wall of my master bathroom, and fed from a 120-VAC to 12-VDC power supply. The speakers are ceiling-mounted. This is a perfect unit for a damp location such as a bathroom.

Pros: Size, looks, and ability to be installed in a damp location. The BlueTooth functionality is great.

Cons: No comprehensive User Manual available on line. I called Dual, they were very friendly and helpful...they assured me it would be on line soon.

Saved me From Cutting another hole

    DLGINTX from Texas on 1/10/2015

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great little radio. I was able to install it in place of my speedometer and that saved me from having to cut another hole. The mounting only took about 30 minutes. I think this is going to be a good radio for my boat and I like the looks. I normally just do a hose wash down and it is supposed to be water tight. I have not washed down yet, but I believe it will be ok according to the specifications. It did not come with an antenna so I rigged one up from some coaxial cable and I got reception fine.

Pros: Easy install if you have the regular holes that come with a lot of boats. Looks good where it fit right in place of an old speedometer that I didn't use, So it was a quick install.

Cons: It does have a radio antenna connection, but no one from Crutchfield mentioned that Crutchfield had a small 18" antenna made by Dual that I probably will get. The other problem is the USB cable is only about 8 inches long, so I had to get and extension cable to run to my glove box where I am installing a USB bulkhead connector there to keep it water proof.

    Marine Features

Marine Certified: The Dual MGH30BT marine receiver is specifically designed and built to last in harsh marine environments.

    • IPX6 Waterproof: The marine receiver is designed to meet the IPX 6 waterproof standards. The receiver will not fail or allow water seepage when exposed to heavy splashing or rain.
    • Conformal Coating: A transparent protective film is applied to surfaces of all interior printed circuit boards. This additional layer of defense guards against dust, condensation, and corrosion; ensuring maximum longevity in demanding marine installations.
    • UV Resistant Construction: The faceplate and other exposed elements of the receiver are carefully injection-molded using high-temperature ultra-violet resistant resins, preventing them from breaking down in the sun and give you peace of mind to enjoy your music on the water.

3" LCD: The Dual MGH30BT features a large full-color 3" LCD for display of menu, audio, source, and song/artist information.

Gauge Hole Installation: The Dual MGH30BT is designed to perfectly fit in your boat's console gauge opening or requires a round cutout in the bulkhead for inserting the chassis. The integrated protective gasket, supplied U-bracket, and included hardware secure the unit in place against the mounting surface. Receiver dimensions:

    • Overall: 4.075" (diameter) x 4.0625" (depth)
    • Face-Plate: 4.075" (diameter) x 0.8125" (depth)
    • Chassis Cutout: 3.015" (diameter) x 3.125" (depth)
Note: The receiver is round and does not include a mounting sleeve or ISO-mount screw holes to accommodate standard automotive installation.

Zero Current Draw: This receiver has a zero current draw, with memory backup to save your boat's battery while still backing up your presets and keeping time.

Remote Control: The Dual marine receiver comes supplied with an 17-button IR wireless remote control which provides complete control of the Dual digital media receiver.

    Variety Of Sources

The MGH30BT allows you to play back stored music and streamed music from your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or personal music player using a Bluetooth connection. You can control (Play/Pause/Skip) the music stored on your Bluetooth audio player from the MGH30BT. This unit does not display song/artist information from Bluetooth audio devices.

Note: Before using the unit's Bluetooth functions, you must pair your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone or audio device to the MGH30BT. Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some mobile devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Dual MGH30BT.

USB Input: The Dual marine receiver is equipped with a rear-panel USB (type-A) which enables connection of a portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) device; such as select Android smartphones (Froyo/Gingerbread OS only), portable digital audio players, or USB thumbdrives. iPod/iPhone Control: The Dual marine receiver's USB port allows you to connect your iPod/iPhone via the Dock- or Lightning-to-USB cable that comes with your iPod/iPhone (not included with the head unit). This USB 1-Wire for iPod/iPhone connection provides audio playback (for both stored music & music apps), metadata display, control, and charging of select iPod/iPhones through the Dual digital media receiver.

    • Bypass iPod DAC: The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 1-bit D/A converter (bypassing iPod/iPhone DAC).
    • Music Navigation: You can choose to control the iPod/iPhone from the head unit or from your iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen. The head unit allows you to browse your iPod/iPhone's stored music by Artist, Album, Song, Playlist, Podcast, or Audiobook (music content listed alphabetically). The unit also provides Fast Forward/Reverse, Previous/Next Track, Repeat/Random, and Intro Scan for your connected iPod/iPhone. In addition, music apps can be accessed directly from your iPhone's (iOS 6.0+) touchscreen.
    • Information Display: The head unit will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information; including Track #, Elapsed playing time, Song title, Artist name, and Album title.
    • Charging: While connected and the ignition switch is set to ACC or ON, the head unit's USB connection will power and charge (0.5A max) your iPod/iPhone. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then this unit will not recognize it.

Pandora App: The Pandora App (free) lets you play music from thePandora music service through the Dual MGH30BT using your connected Apple iPhone, via the Dock- or Lightning-to-USB cable supplied with your iPhone. The MGH30BT provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account.

    • Station List: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Shuffle: Shuffle allows you to listen to songs played on one or more Pandora stations in your Station List randomly. You will need to edit your shuffle station selections on the iPhone before connection.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.

    Audio Section

MOSFET Amplifier: The Dual marine receiver is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the head unit are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 18 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 60 watts x 4 channels (240 watts total)
Note: The power specifications for this head unit are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

2V/2Ch Preamp Outputs: The MGH30BT features a pair of 2-volt preamp outputs to connect an external amplifier. The preamp outputs are fading and cannot be set to non-fading.

Equalizer: The receiver features the following preset EQ curves (Rock, Beat, Classic, Jazz, Flat, or User) to customize your music listening. The User mode lets you manually adjust Bass, Mid, & Treble to your preference.

Loudness: Activating the Loudness feature will enhance the bass and treble frequencies when listening to music at low volumes.

Source Volume Level: The Source Volume Level control allows a gain adjustment for each audio source (Tuner, Aux, USB, iPod); depending on the relative volume of each audio source.

    Customer Q&A

    Crutchfield asked
    Why did you buy this?

Looking for a stereo for my 18' boat that would be easy to install and waterproof. I've owned it for a season now and couldn't be happier. Great value for the money. Louder and clearer sound than I expected![ Joseph  Nov 27, 2016 ]

There is an option to install an external antenna. I did not and I receive the closest radio stations. I rarely listen to radio, I purchased for the Bluetooth streaming option from an iPhone.[ Craig  Apr 07, 2017 ]
Not knowing your boat configuration, yet I imagine your boat battery is in need of charging.[ Craig  Aug 02, 2016 ]
The Dual MGH30BT would work the same way with an iPhone 6/6+/6s the same way it does with an iPhone 5/5s--we just haven't updated the iPod/iPhone chart on our website yet to indicate that. I hope that helps. My Bio: [ Larry  Apr 06, 2016 ]  Staff
The faceplate portion of the stereo sits about 3/8"-1/2" above the surface area, there is a bracket that mounts to the back of the unit that allows you to tighten the unit in place. I mounted one on my small tender last year and was very pleased with it.[ Russ  Mar 15, 2016 ]
Technically the unit is not flush to the dash. The unit mounts within the instrument cutout and extends from the dash. From memory it extends perhaps 1/4-1/2". The mounting hardware is the typical rounge guage mounting bracket at the back of the unit. I hope this helps? [ Craig  Mar 15, 2016 ]
I am not sure what you want for hands free? You can purchase a microphone if you want to talk through the stereo? But I believe that you still have to physically answer the phone.[ Craig  Feb 08, 2016 ]
I am not aware of any camera capabilities.[ Russ  Jun 15, 2015 ]
    I don't think you can[ TIM  Jun 14, 2015 ]
The unit does not have a video display that would make that possible.[ David  Jun 11, 2015 ]

    No[ jason  Jun 11, 2015 ]
Not sure why hot. I had a unit with condensation, Crutchfield replaced the unit. It seems to be a manufacturing issue. But a real pain, because it does not show up until installed.[ Craig  Mar 15, 2016 ]
Need to find out why this unit is to hot to touch on a cold day and never has been wet but has condensation in side unit, I have amp with my unit[ TIM  Apr 26, 2015 ]

There are 2 front and 2 rear speaker outputs, However I did not use them I used the rca pre amps and ran and external amp fosgate pbr 300.
