    Bad Microphone

    Andy from California on 1/29/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

That radio and mount are decent quality. I bought this for the bluetooth function though. I've had the product for over a year now and just can't find a decent place for the microphone. Background noise is not an issue but voice quality is terrible for everyone I call. Their voice is fine through the radio's speakers, but my voice sounds horrible to my callers. Every caller complains about it and I've had quite a few of my co-workers tell me not to call them while in the car. I've actually going back to Apple's earbuds for now, which defeats the whole reason I bought this. Unfortunately I waited too long moving the microphone around the car and trying it for a week at a time to be able to return it. For comparison I have a JVC KW-NT3HDT in another vehicle and callers can't tell I'm driving. Obviously you get what you pay for.

Pros: Easy to use Display is nice Looks good in the car

    Cons: Bluethooth microphone is terrible.

Great sound I actually got one for my son then one for myself. Both of them quit working. The LED display goes out. Dual has been good about replacement. I just don't like all of the re-installation work. Next time I'm back to Alpine.

    Pros: Great radio

Cons: 2 for 2 lemon factor, I wouldn't buy anther one

    Exforbrian from Texas on 10/7/2012

I bought this unit for my rig and after 11 months with the unit I have found the highs and lows with it. The menus are a little tricky to enter and exit from, but once you get them set to you taste then it woks perfect. The unit allows you to adjust the output level for every connection, including the am fm and cd -6 to +6. this is great to keep items from over powering the unit. the colors are great and easy to change with a single button on the front, it lets you change the color to your mood. The screen and be set to negative lcd or positive lcd to your taste, or set it to change at the time you want for day/night operations, then it allows you to lower the light levels to make this unit very dim at night.. I keep an SD card in it with all my music so that I dont have to connect the phone, and if you dont have a smart phone this is great, if you do have a smart phone then it connects automatically when you turn it on. it has 2 AUX inputs one is in the back so you can run the cord to a center console and not have the wire in the front. this is just soooo great. the unit has everything, and I cant find a unit that gives you all this at any price.. but I did have an issue with the screen, it stopped working and then the unit stopped working, I called and they asked me to send it back in the box with the receipt and they would fix it, they did and sent me a new unit. this is typical from what I heard. Get the extended warranty and keep your box and receipt!!

Pros: all the features and functions, and the colors are perfect for any new cars or classics, looks fantastic, easy to use and bluetooth is great, you are not going to find another HU that out features this one, but you may find better units for more money, I love this radio and will buy more for my other vehicles

Cons: sometimes the usb connection does not link the music, sometimes the sd card does not start. these are all very rare things and they are easy to reset and work fine

    Good receiver

John from San Antonio, TX on 9/23/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good receiver, especially for the price. It is the ONLY receiver at this level that includes a rear aux input. Kind of surprising that none of the other do even into the 200 dollar range. Wiring was easy with exception of the instructions that came with the radio--they said to connect gray amp wire to amp wire on car...only there isn't one. Had to call Crutchfield and they quickly told me how to fix it. Just connect it to the black ground wire of original harness. Great features, good sound, adn really like the included IPhone does also hold a blackberry but radio will not support streaming music from blackberry.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice looking display. Great sound. Plug and play, easy to use. Pairs with Bluetooth device quickly. I, personally, really only use it to pair with my iPhone as I like apps like Spotify, Pandora and iheartradio. I love the incoming call feature, the ability to take it hands free and the sound quality of the call. The microphone clips right above the driver. I'm really satisfied with the purchase. Especially Crutchfield's customer service from ordering to a question during installation. Used in a 1999 Saab 9-3.

Pros: Easy to connect Bluetooth devices. Great mic/sound quality to take/make calls. Ease of use. Love the mounting post for my iPhone.

Cons: Small text size, would be great if they gave options for font size.

    Love it

Cons: Hands free calling, when driving, people say im in a wind tunnel, and they can barly hear me (windows rolled up, and ac off).

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After a month of use - absolutely happy with this unit. Few things could be better, but it's hard to find a perfect thing in this price range. This Dual model gets really close to perfect. For me at least.

Pros: Great sound, variable display and buttons color to match interior lights, bluetooth for audio streaming and/or phone calls, SD-card slot (that was a seller for me), iPhone/iPod mount.

Cons: Not much - just a lack of few things that could make it even better. Equalizer might have had a third band. Menu could've been designed better, without having to go three levels down to make minor adjustments. Lowest dimmer setting is still kinda bright for me. Weird folder arrangement while in SD-card mode - hard to find the one you need, especially while driving. iPhone/iPod mount, that didn't fit in my particular case - installation kit left no room for it.

    Well worth the money!!

Had this about a week and couldn't be happier. Installed in my Tacoma and sound is excellent with factory speakers.Took it on a road trip on ruff road and cd never skipped a beat.I think its hard to beat for the price. SD is my favorite feature. I put all my favorite albums and mp3's and still plenty of room with a 8 gig chip.

Pros: Value pr excellent. Havn't used Bluetooth yet, but happy with rest.

    Cons: none

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this unit installed in my Saab 9000 as a replacement for the factory head unit for about six months now. The bluetooth functionality, although limited to voice and music streaming is great. I don't think it will download phonebooks, but I didn't need it for that anyway. I had no trouble at all connecting both my Droid X and now Droid Razr via BT. The sould quality streaming music via BT is phenomenal for this reasonably priced unit. The AM/FM functionalitiy works well - I'm able to pull in stations about as well as my factory unit. The Ipod interface is not very user friendly, as it takes quite some time to scroll through songs using the units round wheel. Overall, very satisfied with the value provided by this unit! And as always extremely satisfied with Crutchfield's customer service.

Pros: Bluetooth functionality - ease of streaming BT music.

    Cons: IPOD functionality limited.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Little buttons, the FM reciever doesn't work right (signal fades in and out and I triple checked the antenea connection). When the signal is weak, it starts hopping between the bluetooth or the cd and the FM receiver. If you turn it off, then turn off the vehicle, come back later and it turns on (annoyance, I know). If it is turned off and you try to make or recieve a call with the bluetooth attached, it messes up the call (dails or receives but then you can't talk or hear). The Crutchfield install/service was great, just a lousy product.

Pros: All the cons out-weigh any pros.

Cons: See review. Just a bad product.

Purchased item to replace factory stereo on my ford F150. Easy to put together and easy to install. I had to figure out a special way to plug it into the truck while I had the adaptor for the ipod connected. That feature might not be necessary and might uninstall it later.

Pros: Great features, the bluetooth is my favorite! I'm able to listen to music from my Evo 3D directly via the bluetooth.

Cons: The only thing and seems to be what I read on other customer reviews, the font display is a bit small. I'm sure I will adjust to it with time but it's definitely noticeable from the start.

Bluetooth for phone is excellent as well. fm reception is weak but wasnt looking for a radio

Pros: ease of use, functionality, affordable

Cons: takes getting used to for changeing folders and such the wheel is really sensitive

    Awesome system

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently installed this system in my 2003 Ford F-150. The blue-tooth works flawlessly, the music or radio is muted as soon as a call comes in, and then restores the sound after the call is ended. The presets for the radio are handy, many other similar systems don't offer presets unless you push several buttons and drill down into various menus. The settings are fairly easy to understand I rarely had to refer to the manual to understand how to access various features. I also found the wireless remote easy to use and sometimes even preferred over using the faceplate.

Pros: Ease of use, blue-tooth works great, microphone is works great I really wanted a system would intergrate with my cell phone so it's easy for me to call people while on the phone.

Cons: The only thing I wish I could change is the fonts on the screen - to make them bigger so they could be easier to read. I have a slight problem with reading and use reading glasses, increasing the font size would be awesome.

    Great buy!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this unit in a car I recently purchased and am very pleased with the product, particularly for the price. This was a great fit for my needs with blue tooth phone, blue tooth music streaming from my iPhone, and USB. I also like the SD card so I have two sources (SD and USB) for playing my MP3's. The blue tooth audio for phone works great. I also added a Sirius XM SXV100V1 module for XM stereo.

Pros: Great price! Two years ago these features would probably have cost twice what this unit is selling for.

Cons: Not a big deal but setting the different colors for the display is a bit complicated. Some may like this because you can set nearly an infinite range of colors in the display to match the stock lights in your car. For me, it was a bit of overkill.

    Awesome system...!!

Very easy to install and setup. Great sound. Easy to connect bluetooth on my fone. Always automatically reconnects when I get back in the car. Disconnecting and connecting to another fone is simple too. Streaming music thru bluetooth is very simple too , just turn on music when bluetooth is connected and it will stream just like that. Overall Very Happy!!!!! :-)

    Nice Receiver

Jim from Bloomington, IN on 2/3/2012

Installed this Dual unit in my 1997 Saab Aero daily driver. Installation was very straightforward, although since I wanted to keep the factory speaker and amplifier there was some customization. I did not opt to use Crutchfield's recommended PAC-SOEM4, but instead spliced RCA jacks directly onto my speaker level inputs into the factory amplifier. The Crutchfield supplied cable harness for power was slightly off as the 12V switched and constant wires were reversed on my car. The sound from this unit is incredible, even through 14 year old speakers. It was very easy to synch my DROID X via bluetooth and media streaming works great. I tried the IPOD controls via the front USB, but as other reviewers have mentioned, scrolling through songs, artists, etc., is very tedious. The variable color display made it very simple to match my green dash lighting. Solid recommendation for the price.

Pros: Bluetooth Phone and Media Streaming Variable Color Display

Cons: IPOD controls tedious for scrolling

    No complaints so far

I just installed this unit about 2 weeks ago and so far I am very pleased. I love the SD card slot. The bluetooth works great for my phone. I haven't tried aux inputs yet. One problem is when playing "Random all folders" from the SD memory card it seems to play from just 3 folders. I have 6.

Pros: Optionally displays the clock nice and large. SC card slot is great.

Cons: One problem is when playing "Random all folders" it seems to play from just 3 folders. I have 6.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Took me 1 1/2 hours to install - matching up wires took the longest. Overall pretty straightforward. Only thing that wasn't obvious was hooking up the bluetooth microphone for the stereo. Forgot to do this the first time and then realized no one could here me via bluetooth. I called customer service and they answered right away and helped me realize what my mistake was. My favorite feature is the fact that I can play music on my iphone via bluetooth, it streams to the stereo without any hookup - best to use for quick 10 minute car trips etc. For longer trips, I hook up with the USB port, then I use the stereo to manage the iphone/ipod music. Another nice option that I may use in the future is the SD card slot. It is under the stereo faceplate. No need to worry about your music if you leave your ipod behind.

Pros: Simple stereo with great Bluetooth functions.

Cons: Alot of wires to hook up especially with my GM Onstar truck as it requires an additional component that costs $50 through Crutchfield. Microphone has to be pretty close to your head for the caller to hear you clearly via Bluetooth.

    Good features, mediocre execution

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this to replace the stock CD unit in a '99 Honda Civic. I got it for the USB and Bluetooth A2DP so I could stream audio from my phone. It works well enough for that, but lacks some features of built-in units (like automatically pausing when you shut the car off and resuming when you start it up). I like that you can adjust the color, but wish it tied into the car dimmer for automatic brightness control. Instead, I used the day/night mode (based on times you enter) to change colors - blue for day, red for night. My two main complaints are: 1. FM sensitivity is much worse than the stock unit it replaced - I get static far more often than I used to. (And why don't these come with RDS or HD radio? - Those should be standard on any stereo by now.) 2. Crosstalk is pretty terrible. If I have the input set to bluetooth, and my bluetooth output is low, I can hear the FM radio bleeding through louder than my bluetooth source. This is just bad electrical engineering...

    Pros: Good for digital media

Cons: Bad for radio and crosstalk

This product is much better than I expected. I bought it mainly for the blue tooth capability, which works amazing, but the sound is so much better as well. The provided mount for the iPod or iPhone is a nice option as well and I don't even need a cord in order to play my music since you can just stream through blue tooth.

This receiver was a great value, and a featured item on the Crutchfield website. The installation was a breeze thanks to the included manual and a UTube video to help remove the dash. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this receiver to replace the factory receiver in my Nissan Versa. I was looking for a reliable way to get bluetooth in the car without breaking the bank. This receiver was pretty easy to install, although I was not able to use the included cell phone holder attachment, as it would not fit through the adapter kit. That was no big deal. Everything else went fine. The options for music with this receiver are great: radio, CD, iPod, Bluetooth, SD card (You can also get satellite and HD radio with optional add-ons, which I did not get). I have not yet tried the SD card, but the bluetooth, iPod control and CD work fine. The FM reception is awful. Local stations come in with a lot of static or reduce sound quality, as if they were on the extreme fringes of reception! Maybe it is the antenna adapter. I just haven't had a chance to check that out yet.

Pros: Easy to install and great bluetooth & iPod control. Options for music are excellent. CD is good.

Cons: Poor FM reception. Local stations do not come in well. May be the antenna adapater provided with the radio.

LS from Seattle, Wa on 11/16/2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Realizing this is a lower price range head unit with limits on adjusting sound quality there were two distinct reasons why I returned this unit. My application for the stereo is for my sound system on my boat. It's used for not only music but also for running the sound from my video system. It didn't have the ability to filter out the 60 cycle hum that was present in the boat wiring, more expensive and sophisticated units are able to do this. This probably won't be an issue if installed in a car but perhaps could be an issue with alternator whine. To a lesser degree but still annoying was the software used to maneuver and display the folder tree off an 8gig USB thumb drive. Although the thumb drive held a series of main folders (genre) then sub-folders (artists) then sub-sub folders (albums) the unit wouldn't see some of the artist sub-folders but went right to the albums. This made it difficult to navigate to the right album. Again this is a lower price unit that sounds ok for the money but the two items mentioned here was the deal breaker.

Pros: II liked the simplicity of the display and the ergonomics of the controls. It has radio preset buttons up front and not buried in a menu that requires your attention to locate and execute. The display allows for a wide range of color adjustment with a straightforward setup menu. This ease of operation continues with the connection layout for external input, subwoofer and front/back speakers. It even gives you the option of excluding front aux input off the source menu when not in use.

Cons: Couldn't eleminate noise from a dirty power source. Software couldn't read USB thumb drive correctly.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This deck is a fantastic value. You get all the features that are common these days, AM/FM/CD(any format), plus a USB that's ipod compatible. The SD slot behind the face for a semi-permanent onboard music library is a nice bonus. The built-in Bluetooth really vaults this from a "good" deck to an awesome one, considering you get all that for less than a big-name brand's base deck, that still requires you to buy a $80-$100 BT add-on. Everything works as advertised. Menus and overall operation is very cryptic abbreviations, redundant menus, or "too many buttons". The BT paired up in a snap and calls were loud and clear on both ends with the mic clipped to the sun visor. Overall, a great value. My last Dual deck had been in 2 vehicles for over 5 years and was still working fine, so Dual quality seems at least on-par with other "name brands", but without the "name brand" pricetag.

Pros: Lots of features, intuitive menus, variable colors, front/rear/sub dedicated amp outputs, bluetooth quality is good. Individual source volume adjustments.

Cons: The main wheel is a bit too sensitive, it's pretty easy to accidentally "move" when trying to push in to "select". A couple buttons seem kind of chintzy.

    Great, Affordable Deck

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love this deck, hookups for everything. The menu's are easy to navigate (much better than previous decks that I've owned...JVC, Pioneer, Sony) and I only had to refer to the manual to figure out how to set the clock. I love how easy it is to use multiple sources of music. I have an SD card in all the time with some of my favorite cd's, can hookup my phone to access my entire library through Google Music. My wife can hook up her iphone and easily control it from the deck itself. One word of warning though. If you have an ipod/iphone with many artists you may want to switch control to manual in the menu. Scrolling through 100+ artists with the deck's knob is not an easy task and it always starts from the top of the if you want to get to a band in the later half of the alphabet it takes 30+ seconds of scrolling (not optimal). Luckilly you can switch to manual and still have the seek buttons work. The included portable device mount is also very handy. Easily fits ipods, iphones (with or without cases), and my Motorola Atrix also fits (with or without a case). If you have a larger phone 4.5"+ it may be too wide for the mount though. All in all, I highly recommend this deck if you want all the features of the expensive decks and a good price. Also buying from Crutchfield is great since they supply all the tools/adapters to get this installed quickly and easily.

Pros: Tons of features, great screen, good sound quality. Portable device mount.

Cons: "Full" ipod control can be annoying if you have a lot of music.

MOSFET Amplifier: The Dual XDMA6540 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the XDMA6540 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the XDMA6540 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 18 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 60 watts x 4 channels (240 watts total)

Preset EQ Curves: The Dual CD Receiver features the following preset EQ curves (Flat, Pop, Jazz, Classic, Beat, Rock, & User) to customize your music listening.

Bass &Treble: The Bass & Treble can be independently adjusted from -6 to +6. Bass & Treble settings are retained for each mode individually. Any adjustments to the Bass or Treble settings automatically cancel the current EQ curve.

Loudness: The Loudness function enhances the bass & treble frequencies at low volumes. The Loudness can be set to 1, 2, 3, or Off.

2V/6Ch Preamp Outputs: The Dual XDMA6540 is equipped with three pair of 2-Volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The front & rear speakers are fading, while the subwoofer output is non-fading. The subwoofer preamp output's level can be adjusted independently from 0-12. Adjusting the subwoofer level to 0 turns the subwoofer output off.

Source Volume Level: The Source Volume Level control allows a gain adjustment for each audio source (Tuner, CD, Aux and USB). You can set the source volume level (+/-6dB) for each mode, depending on the relative volume of each audio source.

Program Volume: You can se the XDMA6540 to power-on to the same volume level (1-46) every time.
