Our take on the Axxera XDMA7100

Sure, you might pull out a CD every once in a while, but it's nice to have choices if you usually listen to music on an iPod® or memory device. That's why the Axxera XDMA7100 gives you plenty of ways to enjoy your music when you're on the road.

Sure, you might pull out a CD every once in a while, but it's nice to have choices if you usually listen to music on an iPod® or memory device. That's why the Axxera XDMA7100 gives you plenty of ways to enjoy your music when you're on the road.

Ready for anything
Once you connect your iPod to the front-panel USB slot, you'll enjoy the ease of browsing through the tunes in your music library with the '7100's control knob, so you can place your iPod out of the way in the console.

If you don't use an iPod you're still covered — you can plug a thumb drive loaded with MP3 or WMA files into the USB slot. Need more options? The SD card slot behind the fold-down face will handle cards with up to 16GB of music. You'll find a minijack input on the front panel, along with RCA inputs on the back of the receiver, giving you the ability to add just about any audio source.

And CDs haven't been forgotten — slide in all your store-bought discs or home-brewed mixes, including MP3 and WMA discs.

More features
Axxera gives you some nice tools for sound, with a 3-band EQ for fine adjustments and seven handy EQ presets for quick changes to the overall sound. You'll also appreciate the remote control for easy control on-the-fly, especially if you have demanding passengers. Two pairs of preamp outputs let you add amps and subs for a high-powered system.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Axxera stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Axxera, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

Great receiver. This is a well built, great sounding, easy to use receiver. I bought it for my 2003 F-150 SuperCrew as I just wanted to listen to my Iphone through the radio. I'm now listening to some radio stations again! I love Bluegrass and the radio sounds great through my factory stereo. The bass is clear and the treble is still high lonesome!!

Pros: Nice display. Easy to use with Iphone.

Cons: doesnt need the removable face plate

    2008 Hyundai Sonata
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just received my XDMA7100 tonight. I purchased it with a Double Din faceplate so that I could stack it with my scanner and run the scanner through the rear input. After wiring the harness and taking apart my dashboard (2008 Hyundai Sonata), I went to put the units into the double din faceplate and to my great dismay I found that the XDMA was too wide! I didn't actually measure it, but I'd estimate it was about an 1/8 of an inch too wide for a standard DIN slot! I checked my scanner, which is DIN compliant and it fit fine (albeit tightly)... sure enough when I compare the XDMA and my scanner, the XDMA is wider. I immediately called tech support to see if there was something wrong with my faceplate (unlikely) or my radio (hopefully not!). After doing some looking, the operator did in fact tell me that the radio was too big for a DIN slot. Maybe my Hyundai just has a very small space for radios, but I think this is a serious oversight on the part of Axxera. I still rated this with 3 stars because after a long time in my workshop manipulating the faceplate with my dremel, I was able to get the radio and my scanner mounted in their slots and installed in my car. Feature wise the radio is great, although I wish I would have sprung for the 7200 with the Bluetooth, didn't see that till now! However, I only recommend buying this to those who are willing to be creative during their install, not for those that were hoping to just slide it in.

MOSFET Amplifier: The Dual Axxera XDMA7100 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the XDMA7100 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the XDMA7100 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 18 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 60 watts x 4 channels (240 watts total)

Preset EQ Curves: The Dual Axxera CD Receiver features the following preset EQ curves to customize your music listening - Flat, Pop, Jazz, Classic, Beat, Rock, or User.

Bass & Treble: The User Mode lets you independently adjust bass & treble (+/-6dB).

Loudness: The Loudness function enhances the bass & treble frequencies at low volumes.

2V/4Ch Preamp Outputs: The Dual Axxera XDMA7100 is equipped with two pair of 2-Volt preamp outputs (Front, R/Sub). The R/Sub preamp output can be switched between a rear-channel full-range output or a non-fading subwoofer preamp output.

Subwoofer Level: When the subwoofer preamp output is activated, you can adjust the output level (0-12) of the sub preamp output.

Source Volume Level: The Source Volume Level control allows a gain adjustment for each audio source (Tuner, CD, Aux and USB). You can set the source volume level (+/-6dB) for each mode, depending on the relative volume of each audio source.
