Our take on the Dual XHD7714

Get loads of features without spending loads of money. Dual's XHD7714 CD receiver includes a built-in HD Radio™ tuner, iPod® control, and Bluetooth® — all of which are often expensive upgrades on other receivers.

Get loads of features without spending loads of money. Dual's XHD7714 CD receiver includes a built-in HD Radio™ tuner, iPod® control, and Bluetooth® — all of which are often expensive upgrades on other receivers.

Lots of listening options
Versatility is the name of the game with the XHD7714. You'll get full control over your iPod with the included cable — browse through your artists, albums, and playlists right on the receiver, or by using the included remote.

Connect other sources to the front-panel auxiliary and USB inputs, or play CDs you've loaded with your favorite MP3 and WMA files. One thing's for sure, you'll have the tunes covered for your next road trip.

iPod note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

HD Radio with iTunes™ tagging
A built-in tuner delivers the enhanced sound quality of HD Radio — participating FM stations will sound almost as good as a CD, while AM stations sound more like traditional FM. And most HD Radio stations send out text info, so you can see artist and song info right on the XHD7714's screen. Many stations also offer secondary channels on the same frequency, giving you even more listening choices.

Here's the coolest part — with an iPod connected to the XHD7714, you can "tag" songs you hear on an HD Radio station for downloading later. The next time you sync your iPod to your computer, you'll be prompted to buy the songs you tagged from the iTunes store.

Built-in Bluetooth
You won't have to purchase an additional adapter to make safer hands-free calls in your vehicle — Dual builds Bluetooth right into the XHD7714. With your compatible phone, you can make and receive calls through your vehicle's speakers.

Note: Bluetooth compatibility of this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.

Power and tone
Of course, none of this means much if it doesn't sound good, and the built-in amplifier has plenty of power to do your tunes justice. You can tweak the sound to your taste using 5 preset EQ curves, while bass and treble controls let you fine-tune to perfection. Three sets of preamp outputs let you add amps and subs for maximum sonic kick.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use this adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Dual stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Dual, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

    Backlight stopped working

JB from Somerville, MA on 3/29/2012

    1999 Toyota Camry CE
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I loved that this unit was packed with features and was a bargain. The HD radio works great, even if it does sometimes seem to take a while to link up. The bluetooth was "meh." I gave up on using it because nobody could hear me clearly. The unit only works with an up to 4GB thumb drive (8GB drive would get Reading for a long time and then eventually fail). Did not use the iPod feature, nor the aux port. CDs and MP3 CDs played very nicely. Having said all that, I was very happy with this unit up until a month ago. Suddenly the backlight started flickering... it was just a minor annoyance at first, and then it got worse and worse until now when the unit's screen is sometimes totally dark. Thank goodness I was able to get back to my favorite settings before it ended up this way, but if I ever have to do some electrical work to my car and the unit gets reset, I'm going to be stuck. This quality problem really has me bummed about what was, otherwise, a purchase I was very happy with.

Pros: MP3+WMA CDs, nice CD sound, USB port very convenient, easy to use, stylish, remote is good

Cons: Quality, Limits USB device to 4GB, bluetooth mic quality is pretty awful, linking to HD stations can take a long time

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 2 of these, one for my daughters car and one for my Miata. I never heard any complaints from her on the radio's performance. She didn't use her phone with the Blue-tooth so this was not an issue. But for me it was. I don't think the microphone in the radio (as opposed to wired separately can work in a car with a higher than average noise level. It was impossible to use. Also impossible to use was the ipod connection. It seems any face-plate that moves will eventually have connection problems. It happened within weeks of using this one. If I pushed on the plate, I could make the connection for both channels to play. But then I can't drive. I didn't know anything about Dual. The price and features were attractive so I thought I'd give them a try. Experiment failed.

This unit worked fine WHILE it worked. After two years, the radio stopped playing, the unit wouldn't scan for channels, I could run an MP3 player through the front but the front panel kept jumping between AUX and Bluetooth by itself. The unit still looks like new but it doesn't work. I emailed Dual and they told me it wasn't worth fixing. Dual products DON'T LAST!

    Worth the money

DougRose93 from St. Louis, MO on 7/16/2011

For sub $100, I had to try it. The unit plays CDs great. A little slow in starting to play. Bluetooth audio is great. Connects quickly. Can walk around my vehicle and no breakup in audio. The phone part, well, it works. The problem I see is the faceplate mic. Being so close to the vents and with regular road noise it is sometimes difficult to hear my wife while she is driving. While driving however, the speakers work great for in-car conversations. HD Radio is amazing. I did have to turn on the local option due to when between channels on the same frequency, it would give you both audio channels, very annoying. AM channels that are broadcasting locally here are a little hit and miss. They drop in and out of HD all the time. FM channels are rock solid. The USB connection is giving me some difficulty with my Sony X10 on reading. It just states reading over and over. Might be a memory issue. Will be trying a thumb drive to hopefully remedy that. The AUX port is also questionable. I am getting a very small amount of engine whine while driving. Different levels each time we plug in. Will be locating a better shielded AUX cable to further test. The amp is adequate. I will be adding a multi-channell amp soon to build my system with. The display is clean and readable. Again, for the purchase price, this things ROCKS!! Purchased a second one for our second vehicle. This was exactly what I asked for and not looking back.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this radio for my wife's car . I was impressed with the features it offered, particularly the integrated bluetooth and front panel USB connector. After installing it (very easy with Crutchfield's excellent guide) and configuring the various user settings, it worked fine... for about a month. After that, the radio would periodically mysteriously lose all of its setup info, and would have to be reconfigured. All of the preset channels, the clock, the bluetooth settings... all lost. After a couple of months of dealing with this, Dual agreed to replace the radio under warranty. The new radio behaved properly... for about 6 months. At that point, the CD player stopped working, and even though the second radio was only 6 months old, Dual would not honor the warranty since it was over one year since the initial purchase. Although the sound quality was good and the feature list impressive, my experience with this radio and Dual was not good. Their quality control leaves a lot to be desired, as does their customer support. I won't be purchasing any of their products in the future.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My son and I installed this in a 2002 Honda Odyssey. The wiring harness that Crutchfield supplied was handy (we soldered and taped), and had wiring all ready to go before we even took the unit out the car. Didn't want to spend too much in adding equipment to this car. But still wanted to get lots of features, including trying HD radio and Bluetooth for use with the phone. Only had this unit in for a few days but everything works great including Bluetooth. On the Odyssey the radio sits at a good position and angle for the built-in mic to work properly. HD radio is great in metro NY area. I've paired two phones to the unit so far and everything works well. It's not as good as the handfree system that came with my other car, but that setup costs 4X as much as this unit. I have seen reviews where there is a complaint about not getting radio mode back after making call over Bluetooth. Haven't seen this here but I had this problem with another car, and solved it by disabling the streaming sound mode from the Bluetooth on my phone (leaving on Hands Free mode only). The trim and buttons etc. aren't exactly real-solid but at this price point I'm fine with it. To be fair I haven't tested Ipod connection yet but I recommend this unit.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a really nice unit. If you've never heard of Dual, don't let the name scare you off. This is a nice unit. I had a budget of $200 and I wanted something with HD Radio because the Pittsburgh Penguins have their own HD station dedicated to them 24/7. I also wanted a front USB and Aux port to run my Siruis radio and my Zune. This unit had all of that, plus iPod (wife has one) and Bluetooth and was well within my price range, so despite the brand, I decided to give it a shot. Installation was a breeze and the unit works great. The Bluetooth is a bigger convenience than I thought it would be. The HD tuner is great and being able to store HD stations on the presets is a nice plus. The only minor complaint I have is with some of the menu/feature navigation - some of the features are a little hard to find and I would have like to see the main jog dial used a bit more (tuning for example). That's far from a major issue, and I expect the more I use it, that will become even less of a quibble. This is a great unit and if you're looking for a feature-rich receiver on a budget, look no further!

Crutchfield service was great as always. This unit has a nice feature set for the money, but quality is just OK. Display is unreadable in bright (but indirect) sunlight even in highest brightness setting, iPod controls work fine with iPod Nano and iPhone 4, but I had intermittent problems with iPhone 3GS which according to the web it is compatible with, and knobs/buttons somewhat cheap feeling. Still, since it is at least $100 less than a comparable JVC or Kenwood I can't complain too much...just don't expect the same level of quality if you are considering this receiver.

Still working well after over a year....

    2005 Toyota Prius

I've had this unit for over a year now in my Prius, I have to say for what I would consider an "offbrand" this is a very nice unit. The buttons feel kind of cheap, but they always work and are still not showing any sort of paint wear. The HD radio is very clear and excellent. There are independent audio settings for each input, very helpful getting each input sounding just how you like it. The only problems, my bluetooth input has a whine...it's at the point where if it was any louder I would probably have to trash the unit, but it' still just quiet enough where you can't hear it during 90% of the song. This is annoying, as besides the whine, BT audio is crystal clear and what I use most often. I've also had some problems with the faceplate on the unit...it doesn't mount as secure as other units I've had. This is only a problem because fitment is extremely tight where my unit is in my car, in most cars I don't ever see this being an issue. I am very critical of my electronics and expected to replace this in about a year, but I'm not going to....I am still completely satisfied.

I was hesitant to buy this as I am not familiar with the brand name. I really like the design, the automatic connection to bluetooth audio is great. I installed it in my '04 subaru in about 15 minutes! the included instructions and pics make the installation THAT easy. the only downside (but low on my priority list) is that I can't lower the face as it hits my stock trim. I dont use CD's anyway, so its not a loss really. there are ipod controls, aux input, and a USB input as well. so no biggie for me. All in all 4 out of 5 stars. recommended for anyone wishing to make a simple upgrade with bluetooth.

I must say, hats off to the Crutchfield Team. Very easy install with the Installation Kit. I installed this Radio into my 2001 Ford F-150 Extend Cab, and the install took me about 1 hour. I was blown away by the radio's performance. The bluetooth synched right up to my Blackberry storm, and operated beyond my expectation. I could not believe how good the sound was. The radio even controls the mp3's on my Blackberry remotley, no wire attached. Best thing I bought all year.

I have had the unit for week so far and I am learning more about it each day. The best feature I have FOUND is the ability to stream music to the reciever over the Bluetooth link. I knew it had BT but thought this was only for making and recieving calls. I have tried the streaming feature with a Droid 2 and Iphone 4 and works well. All the features work well including the HD radio. It is a little weak in recieving channels that are more than a 100 miles away though. All the local HD channels come in strong and clear so I think that would be expected though. I would assume if you live in a hilly area then HD radio may not work well for you.

Pros: The unit sounds very good and has excellent features. I really love the bluetooth capabilities. Streaming music files and Pandora from my phone sounds a lot better than I would have imagined. I also like the ability to connect a flash drive to the USB port. The hands-free phone capability is very convenient, as it pauses whatever you are listening to when call arrives. I also love the HD radio feature. There are plenty of stations in the DFW area that offer HD content and they sound great. Cons: Searching for music on a flash drive is time consuming and non-intuitive, so I usually leave it on random mode. While the sound of a phone call is excellent on my end through my vehicle's speakers, the small microphone in the unit itself doesn't appear to have much in the way of noise cancellation. People I call frequently have difficulty hearing me, but if I keep the windows up and speak loudly and clearly, I don't have too many problems. And it's better than holding the phone to my ear or fishing around for a headset when I get a call. Also, the CD player seems to malfunction a lot - skips, cuts out, etc. - after I've been using the unit for a while. Tech support recommends I do a reset, so I'll try that soon. Bottom line, though, is that I don't really listen to CD's anymore due to the USB and bluetooth features, so it isn't a huge problem in my case.

5 STARS for the money. has the CD/MP3 player, both bluetooth, HD radio, as well as USB and aux/mp3 inputs. my phone connects automatically every time i get in to the car. and i can play songs off my phones memory card in two ways, either bluetooth streaming or a 3.5mm jack to jack cord. i have a nano ipod hooked into the USB at all times. so with CD/MP3 player, HD radio, tunes from my phone or the ipod, i have high quality music at all times. the phone works well with calls on the bluetooth, but sometimes callers have difficulty hearing you. works better at lower speeds and less interior noise. if you have a quiet car, it shouldnt be a problem. i dont remove my faceplate, so i cant attest to any reliability issues. its been a great unit for WAY less than i have paid for "higher quality" brands over the years, with the features i want. good control over your music with separate outputs for front/rear/sub. good level controls, with gain controls over each source as well. i havent noticed too much drop out on HD radio, but it does happen. it is a newer technology as well. love that some stations have several channels within the same station. one local station has 4 channels on its one location. i have looked for other radios for my other vehicles that have these same features, but cant find many within this price range. and i already know: this one works great.

For the money I give this a 5. Features I wanted: single din, bluetooth and HD built-in vs paying an additional $150 as add-ons, reputable brand, ready to play AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA, USB & auxillary ports, and removable face plate for security. I immediately noticed improved sound with the HD radio. The Bluetooth not only does a great job of automatically receiving calls and displaying caller ID, it sounds great using the full car speaker system. One caution: not sure how well the detachable face will hold up snapping in and out. One suggestion: buy before it gets phased out as very few newer models have the bluetooth andd HD built in.

Overall the value for this product is five out of a five stars. The only reason I am rating it 4 stars is that the microphone with bluetooth does not provide a clear enough voice signal for people listening while you are driving. Now some of this is due to road noise but maybe they could do a better job with noice-cancellation.

After shopping around for a car stereo on a limited budget I found that most head units under $200 were lacking in one or more features which I really wanted. I needed the bluetooth connection for my work phone and wanted the usb port for ease of use flash drive for my audio books and podcasts. I have owned this unit for a couple of months and have been impressed with it for the most part. At this point I am still using the Ford factory speakers, to be upgraded later with an amp. Likes: USB, HD radio, sound quality, decent power. Bluetooth connectivity is automatic and fast, don't even have to take the phone out of my pocket. Dislikes: HD radio reception is iffy at times - it will drop often to analog. I live in Orange County, CA and there are not many tall buildings around here to block reception. I don't know where the signals originate from, though. Also, on occasion the USB drive will not start unless I unplug/replug the drive. It will start playing from the same place where I left off if I turn off the stereo but not if I unplug the drive. Would be nice to have a bookmark feature for longish audio books that remembered specific drives. I never remove the faceplate so have never had an issue with the construction as some others have complained. Installed easily with the adapter/harness from Crutchfield. I would have ordered a universal connector between the car wires and the stereo harness to avoid splicing and taping if I had known.

Good radio if it works. First one I got had a defective radio tuner. Changing stations didn't work, was always stuck on 87.7 (note that even if you don't plug in the FM antenna, you should be able to change stations on the dial). After second-guessing my wiring for hours, I threw in the towel and returned to Crutchfield retail store and got replacement unit without any hassle (as always fantastic service that'll keep me coming back for years). Once working, the unit works quite well. The blue LED backlighting looks very crisp and cool at night. Amp does a decent job of driving my wife's factory speakers, and the radio does a better job of handling HD signal popping in and out than previous Dual HD radio I had. Ipod control works well (dial + Select/Power button work like the scroll wheel and button when menu navigating). Biggest gripe with this unit is the display. The dark parts look a bit "washed out" at night, very difficult to read in sunlight or during the day, The thickness of the letters/numbers is too thin IMO. It also refreshes slowly in cold weather, and scrolling function is a blurry mess to read. If you plan on using the Ipod controls, make the passenger fight with reading the display; you could also unplug the USB part of the cable and switch to AUX source where you can control the Ipod directly.

Do no own and ipod but assuming this works just as well. I like the feature that locks the removable faceplate. Sound is superior on OEM speakers to factory installation. Plays all mp3 on various USB devices (something my Sony would not do. No regrets. After soldering the new harness install to play took about 15 minutes.

Purchased to replace factory radio in 1999 Sonata. Only reason for marking down this product is that it is not a compatible match for this vehicle. Once installed, there was a continuous "buzz" which I could not eliminate. The Help line tried to assist, but it sounded like it was a grounding issue. Crutchfield worked with me and sent out a second unit with no improvement. After exhausting all ideas, I finally switched to a different brand radio (Clarion CZ500) which installed effortlessly and sounds GREAT! The Dual unit had the functionality I was looking for, but did not match up with my vehicle as listed on the Crutchfield site...Suggest an update!

Not for use with higher end systems

Robg from San Antonio,TX on 12/26/2010

Bought this deck after reading all the rave reviews about clarity. I purchased a higher end component system with the hopes that this deck would suffice. The clarity is not that great, there is no depth to the signal, and I could have gotten the same sound from a cheap special. The microphone on the front is not powerful enough for normal speaking. I have to literally yell to have a conversation that could be heard on the other end. Dual needs to make an external microphone that could be located closer to the driver to have a decent conversation. I have only had the deck for a year now and have found that the face continually comes loose while driving comes looses connection when changing channels. This unit is packed with features that are great for a factory stereo replacement, but do not purchase if you are looking for quality sound. I will be replacing my soon with a higher quality unit.

This is a great head unit for the money. The first one I received was a dud and I had to return it, but that's not really a problem with Crutchfield. The replacement unit they sent me was brand spanking new, not a refurb or an open box like some retailers would have done. I slapped it in and it worked great. There are tons of options on this unit, and I haven't found myself wishing for any features. It does just about anything you want a stereo to do. I have it installed in a 2003 F150 supercrew and it fits great with the provided install gear from Crutchfield. The bluetooth works great, the hd radio works great (probably my favorite feature), the usb works great. I've never used it with an ipod. Overall it's a good buy, no buyers remorse here.

You get what you pay for. Bottom line is it does a lot of things OK but none of them well. All of the functions work though. I bought this specifically because it was the only one available with both Bluetooth and HD built in and at a decent price. The previous reviews are pretty accurate - the Bluetooth is moderate to poor (people have a hard time hearing me and it cuts out) and the HD takes a while to lock in. The receiver sensitivity is moderate - it does not pick up signals my OEM unit would and the HD flips in and out with all but the strongest signal. As for the EQ you can get pretty good tone quality but the mid ranges seem to be a little flatg no matter what you do. Still, again, for the price you don't expect Denon quality. Install in my 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad cab was a snap - 45 minutes but you need to do some soldering to build the harness and mate the adaptor. If I had it to do all over I would get a good quality HD rig with a Bluetooth add on.

alanp from Portland, OR on 12/18/2010

I've no been living with this for 6 months, and some things it does very well - some not so well. The best thing is that in one unit I have a HD radio, USB input, Bluetooth and even an aux jack. The negatives include lighting with no provision for automatic dimming, poor FM reception, and limited audio controls. I sure wish Kenwood or some other manufacturer had HD and Bluetooth in the head unit as this does. And when they do I'll probably switch.

Installation was easy (Steering wheel adapter took some thought). Crutchfield support helped me through that without a hitch. The instruction that come with the radio are a bit vague in same areas and can use some clarification, again Crutchfield support helped with that also. Great radio and support!!!

I was shopping for a receiver with Bluetooth built in and USB/Ipod control when I came across the Dual XHD7714. I purchased the Dual XHD7714 because of the amount of good reviews the price and it had HD radio installed and I was curious as to the "big deal" HD radio is making on all its commercials. Well if you are a fan of regular FM radio then HD is for you. But I soon remembered "I hate regular radio" so why do I want to listen to something I hate in CD quality??? Oh well if the rest is ok then the HD is a bonus...wrong! The biggest reason I got a new receiver is for the Bluetooth and this one has the mic built into the faceplate and sounds tinny/garbled, with no option to add an external mic. The USB read time is slow 15+ seconds, remote is hard to use without looking at it all the time, all the buttons are the same and you cant even tell if you have it facing the radio. It looks nice and sounds good and is packed with features but the features are not packed..the Ipod control is weak the Bluetooth features are weak (no phone book transfer) USB, USB Ipod is slow but the HD radio is good as far as I could tell. Bottom line: If you want HD radio and can live with slow USB/Ipod reading and tinny phone calls this unit is for you!...If not buy the JVC Arsenal KDA-815 WHAT A RECEIVER!!! I will review this one next and it will be 5 stars all the way!!!

I bought this radio because of the HD and bluetooth features. I installed the radio and was impressed with all the features and it worked well with my IPOD but the problem comes when I try and listen to a radio station it will only pic up stations that are very close I verified it was not the radio by using a JVC that I purchased for another application. I sent the radio back thinking it might be defective but the one I received in return is just as bad. I will be finding something else and it will not be a DUAL.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the features, the value can't be beat at the price you can get it for. I've owned it for 6 months, paired with 4 Infinity Reference speakers in a '90 Prelude Highs: -HD/USB/iPod/CD/Aux/Bluetooth for cheap -Good Power & Sound Lows: -Quirky mount for attaching faceplate, pretty tricky to do one-handed. I pretty much have to be stopped to do it safely, whereas other faceplates are pretty simple to do one handed. -A 4GB thumb drive take a full 1-2+ minutes to load. -No Midrange adjustment, just Treble and Bass -Cool to talk through the stereo, but the mic sucks and I have to speak way up on the highway. This might be solved by Dynamatting the interior, but it's a bit costly. -If you remove your iPod in the middle of the unit uploading tagged songs from the radio, the radio gets stuck on "Sending Tags" mode, and there is no way to see what radio station you're on unless you plug an iPod back in to finish the tag sending. I don't have an iPod, but my girlfriend had hers connected, and she removed it in the middle of the upload. Alas, she's an ex-gf now and I have to find a friend with an iPod to fix this quirk. Luckily I had 6 preset radio stations set up, so I know what they are, I just can't see what frequency I'm on. Overall, I'd recommend this to a friend with the warnings, mainly pertaining to the quirky faceplate mount. For the price it's pretty nice.

Bought this deck from Crutchfield two weeks ago. What can I say, it is a great deck for the money. I can't speak to how well it will hold up, but so far so good. Installation was a snap. Thank you crutchfield for sending all the extra's! The bluetooth works well. I was worried because it did not come with an external antenna. I have a 2001 Jetta, and it can get noisy from the road, but this deck is crystal clear. There is a bit of noise on the other end when I am at highway speeds, but nothing that is a deal killer, and like I said, my car is loud. HD radio is awsome! It takes a while to lock into stations, or switch stations, I guess that must just be HD radios in general? Itunes tagging works great. The fact that you ahve to plug both a usb and aux in for the IPOD was wierd at first, but it works well, so who am I too complain. Overall, the coloring is easy to see in any light. The buttons are a little small for my big man hands, but I work it out. Sound is sharp. This deck is responsive! It pushes the monsoon speakers in the Jetta like never before. I would give this deck a A (it loses the plus from button size)....

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this unit for about a year and a half, and I'm mostly pleased with it. It's one of the only units I've seen that has an HD tuner and Bluetooth built in. I will say the Bluetooth is just okay. It's difficult for people on the other end to hear me, so I seldom use it. The ability to play music from my phone through Bluetooth is pretty cool, but the sound quality is not as good as if I just plug it in to the auxiliary input. The HD radio is awesome. There are a lot of HD stations in the Houston area, and the HD sound quality is phenomenal. I listen to NPR on my way to work, which is pretty fuzzy over an analogue signal, but crystal clear in HD. I am disappointed with the iPod input. I use my iPod to listen to audiobooks, and there's static when I plug it in using the connections that came with the unit. Someone who uses their iPod just for music might not notice the static, but audiobooks have no background noise, so it's really noticeable. I usually just plug it in to the auxiliary input, and the sound is fine. Doing this sort of defeats the purpose of getting an iPod ready device, though. All in all, I like the stereo. That said, if I had to do it again, I might get a unit without Bluetooth. I thought I'd use it all the time, but I never do. Could have saved some money just getting a unit that supports HD.

This was easy to install and this stereo has all the features I was hoping for. I love the HD radio, iPod controls and remote. The only detractors from this unit is sometimes the display goes haywire and displays all sorts of weird symbols instead of the usual readable display. I suspect this has something to do with temperature - heat mainly. Secondly, the built-in microphone. In my car, the sterio is positioned rather low and my car is noisy, as a result I can hear my end of the phone call, but the recipient cannot hear me as well. Thirdly, the connection for the iPod is a Y-cord that has a USB connector plus an additional connection that connects into an Aux plug. My iPod seems to heat up which has not been a problem so far, but I wonder if it could limit its battery life.

THE BAD- I got no FM/AM reception except for 2 stations of which i never listen to anyway, the bluetooth feature is nice but when i tried talking with someone they said i sounded like I was in a tunnel. What else.. oh yea I didn't like the way they had the wire connection for the ipod where you have to connect both aux and usb on the unit and the worst part was when the music all of a sudden paused for either a split second or 5 seconds then played, I didn't mind it at first but it got worse as the weeks went on, one song that was 6 minutes long paused 8 times throughout that one song. This unit might have been defective but I wouldn't recommend anyone to take a chance and buy it.

The USP/IPOD ports commonly pick up static, I wish there was a better connection method. Bluetooth music streaming does not seem to work at all. The display in the Expedition is a little more vertical and shielded from the sun than in the Town car sand I never have any issue seeing the display in the Expedition but in the Town Car I can's see the display at all during the day(I didn't have that problem with the factory unit). I did have bad wiring harness and they send another one out right away. Crutchfield customer service is always fantastic! This unit is great for features for the $ but overall feel and quality is less that other brands, you just need to realize what you are buying.

All this and the price is impossible to beat. As for Crutchfield, everything shipped quickly and as ordered and for free. The parts were exactly what I needed to install the radio myself. The only detractor i would say would be the way it reads mp3's from usb drive, I cant find a way to use the directory structure, though it will go more than 3 folders deep i broke up my songs by Name(Me or my GF), genre, artist, album, and then songs, so thats 4 folders. Bluetooth for calls is like im on my phone (better actually) i even had to turn down source for that because it was loud, clear though. HD is great, some stations get a little quiet so you may need to switch to analog tuner if you have a weak signal or out in the country, CD is amazing, and bluetooth for stream is amazing!

Assembly I bought this unit in August of 2009... is was the least expensive unit with sat. radio capability, HD, Bluetooth, CD, USB, and iPod. I could have paid more for the same features from a 'name brand' vendor, but I took a risk on Dual. What a waste. The switchgear is tolerable, but obviously flimsier than the more expensive brands. The faceplate is difficult to reattach to the base. The biggest problem is the HD reception: it's virtually useless. I live in a city with a 50K watt AM radio station and the unit can't even hold on to that. It drops out for seconds at a time, then picks up again, usually. It's rotten on FM as well. It's actually gotten worse since I bought it. Driving the same routes, I get worse reception now than when I first installed it. That could be a symptom of a different problem, I admit, but as I'm not an RF engineer, I can't say for sure.

All audio sources except the Bluetooth A2DP one were perfect. The A2DP audio was horrible in the high frequency range, absolutely terrible. The interesting thing was that it was not simply the iPhone that i connected that had the problem. I linked my bluetooth laptop as a source and it had the same problem. I've read other reviews and discussions about this unit and they all have the same problem. The video review seemed to show that the Bluetooth audio was great and had no problems. Schmidty from Phila, PA on 9/4/2010

OK so I bought both this unit &the XHD6430, and I wntd to compare them. The sound quality of this 1(maybe I got a bad unit) was horrible compared to the other. I mean this thing had to be turned up to 20+ to get decent sound, compared to 9-10 on the 6430. I can literally blast the 6430 up to 30 with no distortion after some tweaking of my amps. This unit distorted around 15 unless I had the B set at -4, sub -6(just b4 the off setting), & my amp -10. The sound was outright horrible. Ok so the iPod adapter that comes with this unit - I hated r2 wire hook-up & it wasn't near the sound quality of my USB hook-up with the other. The volume knob to scroll through your songs worked half of the time & the adapter was so wide that I had to take my iPod out of its case to even hook it up. I figured I would try the Blue-tooth feature, same lower quality sound & defeated my main reasoning for getting a unit that was iPod compatible, you have to have your iPod out to do everything but fast forward or rewind the current song. The drop down face is another horrible feature. Save your $ and pick up the 6430 & if you need Blue-tooth buy the adapter for it. Hands down it is a much better head unit than this one.

I bought a new stereo primarily for the USB functionality. Maybe they are all slow, but this takes about 1-2 minutes to read the USB before it plays. Any interruption (besides pause) makes it read again. The bluetooth was the second priority. It seems to work ok, I liked the built in mic for not having to fool around with another item during install but I wonder if it doesn't work as well as a separate mic. The screen is ok but the blue lights are too bright. I have it dimmed all the way down for day time and might put something on them to cover them up at night! I might check and see if Crutchfield has a 30 day satisfaction guarantee.

Feature rich and a very nice unit. That is, until you realize that the iPod cable has a separate USB and audio inputs to the front of the unit. This is clunky. Why isn't the USB connection entirely handling the data and audio. Plus, the connection to the faceplate is clunky - why isn't it done on the back of the unit (with USB alone and with a set screw). Finally, the cable is junk. After a half year of use, the non-USB, audio cable/plug is crackling and causing certain speakers and sounds to cut out. It's a nightmare. As if this wasn't enough repellent, if you use the USB alone with a thumb drive, the connection is loose and causes the unit to re-read the data multiple times. Again, why not a set screw of some sort. Such a simple solution and so poorly designed. Sorry Dual, you've got a way to go in order to hit this one on the mark.

I was looking for a car stereo that offered various inputs and features and this radio blew me away with what it offered. The streaming audio across BlueTooth from my LG Voyager to the radio sounds excellent and allows me to not even need the optional Audio Input jack on the front of the unit. Between the USB port, the Optional Audio jack on the front, MP3s on a CD, regular audio CDs and then Analog and HD Radio (another reason I chose this unit), the only think you can't play on this unit are audio cassettes (which are going the way of the 8-track). And although I don't use it often, the remote control is a nice feature too - my daughter gets a kick out of controling the radio from the back seat. I can definitely see what some folks are saying about the faceplate - if I had to remove mine often I would be concerned one of the support pins might break. So if that is a concern for you look to a higher end model. Besides that, the layout of the radio and the sound quality are exceptional. I would highly recommend this unit and the price is hard to beat for the features you get.

Still have the factory speakers in, so I can't get into sound quality to much but, Installation was cake on a 2010 accent. And it works fine, If your looking for features and have a budget, this is for you. Easy to figure out, figured out most things without the instructions. Like another reviewer said, people have said I sound like charlie browns teacher (thet means my voice is hard to understand, for young people) but at times it is fine. But reception on my end is awesome. Bluetooth set up is easy. (for LG phones anyway). IPOD hooked up instantly, and the menu is easy. HD Radio seems good. I don't plan on taking the faceplate off often, but if you do frequently, I can definetely see some issues with the hinges possibly breaking. Definetely would recommend at this point.

I've had this for 8 months now and I am looking to replace it already. Everyone that had concerns about the cheap feeling of the faceplate was right - one of the plastic clips on the bottom has broken and the plate won't stay on now. I live in a city so I have to remove it every time I leave the car, so it gets taken on and off several times a day. With my old Panasonic radio I would just slide the faceplate in with one hand and it clicked in place. To get this one on you have to carefully (with both hands) line up the bottom over the plastic things and try to flip it up while another plastic thing presses forward against it. Then when you've got it up you have to press on the top left and right at the same time and hope the bottom doesn't pop off while you're doing this. Now that the bottom clip has broken the bottom part pops out whenever I hit a bump. The only plus to all this is that it has a flashing red light when the faceplate is off so it looks like an alarm. If you don't have to remove your faceplate for security then none of this will really bother you. To put a CD in, you can just hit the button to flip it down and leave the bottom part attached. Then flip it back up and click it in place when you're done. This is definitely one of those "get what you pay for" purchases.

Overall for the money, this is a great product. The only CON that I can find is the same as other reviews, the in-dash MIC for calls. It would have been nice if we had been given an option for an external MIC. Given that I knew this when I bought the unit, I really can't complain...it works..... I put this unit in a 2003 GM Silverado P/U . Great receiver...has everything I wanted in a radio. Blue tooth works well. Sounds a little "tinny" to the person receiving the call. HD radio also works with AM stations...no static on AM. USB is great for loading your own programs (I listen to audio books.) I don't have an I-pod yet so I can't comment on that. The instructions were helpful for removing the trim piece (just pull) but were weak for actual radio installation. Instructions basically said "remove old radio...install new radio." Using a little common sense makes it go in relatively easy,

This unit has every feature I wanted built in. HD radio, iPod/USB, Bluetooth with A2DP. The sound is much better than stock, even with the factory speakers I'm still using. Bluetooth call quality is good on my end, but people I'm talking to say they have a hard time hearing me. Also, A2DP streaming quality is just barley adiquet. The buttons are a little cheap feeling and some are awkwardly placed. But the sound and display are good, and overall I am very happy with this unit. I'd like to say that Crutchfield has the best service I've ever received, online or in person. My order was shipped within an hour of purchase, I received free 2 day shipping, and tons of free extras. I found the unit for $30 cheaper somewhere else, but by the time I paid for shipping, mounting hardware, etc. it would have been slightly more, and I would have never received the same quality of service I got from Crutchfield. Much more powerful than my original equipment radio, and much better sound. Bluetooth is great if parked, but in my small car, the road noise makes it essentially unusable at freeway speeds because the mic is in the faceplate (not remoted to headliner).. So far this is great. It installed into my 95 Jetta without tooooo much difficulty (just a little filing on the plastic lip on the L&R sides as DIN bracket was just a hair too wide to fit). Bluetooth connectivity worked fine, HD radio is fine, iPhone streams audio fine, but neither Apple cable nor the Dual supplied (much larger cable with a huge connector in the iPhone end) will charge my iPhone3G (others say it will with the Dual cable, but so far no go for me). Even if the Dual cable can be made to work, its so huge I can't use it where I have the iPhone mount, so I was really hoping the Apple cable would work (since it will stream audio over BT, I don't need the wired connectivity). So that is a real let-down, and why I only gave it 4 out of 5. I also have not tried the mic yet, if that is as poor as others say, that might slip it to 3.5 . Still great value for the money.

The Good: Having everything built in is a big plus. HD Radio works great. Ipod controls are easy to use. 3 sets of a RCA outputs area big plus. Sound is EXCELLENT. I thought I needed to upgrade my entire system. After replacing my Alpine (4 years and worn out), my speakers, from highs to subs came alive. It sounded like an entirely new system. The Bad: Microphone for Bluetooth isn't very good. You have to speak loudly for people to hear you. Signal range for radio is a bit sub-par. A lot of stations fade in and out of HD range, which is a bit annoying if you live on the outskirts of the station range.

Dual replaced a warranteed (out of stock) unit with this one for me (had to "fight" them a little, kept delaying the replacement). The old unit had the external mic, which was a better sounding set-up (from the caller's end). The thru-the-speakers sound on calls was better with the other unit, too, but this one's "okay". Feature-wise this is a great unit and has worked well the 3-4 weeks I've had it (the defective unit was maybe 10 months old). The removable faceplate of the old unit was a one-hander, while this one has taken me a while to get good at (because it is also a fold-down and the other wasn't). It feels like too much force is necessary to get the second pin to click in, and for the long haul that worries me (durability of plastic pins). Hope that is unfounded. Overall you can't beat the features for the price.

    Great Features So-So Performance

Jack from Wayne, NJ on 4/18/2010

First the Pros: This radio has every feature that you could ask for, except voice recognition on the Bluetooth. Everything works and the USB port makes the Ipod connection obsolete, but it works anyway! When in range, the HD stations are clear as CDs. AM reception is also quite good except some of the local strong stations sound a little distorted, even with the local attenuator switched in. Go figure. Regular FM reception is average. Plenty of power and the sub woofer connections function beautifully. So the sound is great. A few Inconveniences: As others have reported it is very difficult to see the Display in full sunlight. If you look at it "dead-on", it is readable. But more than a 5 degree slant and it's a problem. Out of direct sunlight, the Display is fine. The blue tooth connects fine but the mic does a lousy job especially if there is any kind of road noise. Without a Voice Command feature it makes the hands-free a bit awkward. You must use your cellphone to choose your contact, or dial it using the remote. Very unsafe and awkward. The menu takes some getting used to but I guess thats part of the learning curve. Overall, I love this radio but just wish the few annoyances could have been engineered out!

The negatives: I just returned yesterday after having almost 30 days. My biggest concern is the built-in mic for the bluetooth. I specifically bought this model because I wanted a speakerphone in my car, but was told by many that I was very hard to understand or sounded like I was in a tin can. Duel should consider adding an external mic for better clarity. Additionally, the main radio station that I listen to, 105.9 FM, would not clearly come in. Not sure why since it does on my factory stereo. The positives: All the features. The iPod connections/tagging, bluetooth audio streaming, and the built-in HD receiver. Duel is the only company to make a receiver with all these built in. I'm disappointed that it didn't work better as the features were great.

The wattage isn't clear, as you can see on the comparisons. Read the specs closely for contents A nice feature is that you can set it to come on at the volume you were listening to, or a preset volume. This is set for each mode (radio, cd,). There are 3 pair of RCA connections (Front back & sub) which is fantastic. Blue tooth sound quality is comparable to speaker phone. I didn't have to yell into it, just upped the volume & sat back. The dimmer works fine for me. Pros: It remembers song place even on USB Plays removable media via mass storage reader. That is your reader has to tell the unit that it is. Also as long as the disc disk or card is in FAT or FAT32 format. So if you have an old laptop drive & an external case with a USB connection it reads. I tried it with an ancient 6 gig drive that was partitioned for 5 & 1. It read the 5 gig (4.51) side but not the 1 gig. Cons: If the station is in HD, the Dual will pick up that broadcast, not either or. Have to scroll through modules to get back to 1st module Local/distance not as good as OEM Bluetooth has to be on to receive call. You have to scroll through to connect to your phone before the call ends. Often you wind up ending the call Doesn't play wavs or lossless MP3 Doesn't read NTSF formatted cards or drives

Some reviews made me apprehensive when I bought it, but after using it 2 weeks, I would definitely recommend it. HD radio works well, and the quality is noticeably better. Bluetooth works great. You can talk on your phone via the bluetooth hands free profile, and you can play audio from the phone. I have a few audio files that the Dual 7714 does not understand, but I can play them on my phone over the speakers! And I can even be on a Skype call on my phone and talk over bluetooth handsfree! Playback of audio and MP3 CDs works as claimed. I like the USB play feature. While it takes 20 seconds to start playing an MP3 CD, it takes much less to start to play off a USB flash drive, and has higher capacity. Browsing the MP3 CD or USB stick for music is user-friendly -- you can skip albums or skip a track in an album with just a button press each. The user interface is good (although one could do better). A few caveats: The face-plate feels cheap and not very durable. There are small glitches that you learn to side-step. For example, when you turn on ignition, you need to give it a few seconds to connect to the phone via bluetooth; if you try doing too much else, bluetooth connection may not succeed. Some reviewers were concerned about the dislay being invisible in daylight. But it's really not bad at all w/ the "medium" setting. Installation instructions were good and easy to follow, although not wholly sufficient. But customer service was v. helpful.

First, this stereo is a great value. I love the HD radio and the A2DP Bluetooth profile so I can play music from my iPhone without connecting anything. What other stereo offers these features built-in for < $200?!?! Why only 4 stars? Because of some stuff I already knew from reading reviews before I bought it, so I'm not too disappointed, but here we go: First, the microphone for placing Bluetooth calls is too quiet for the other end to hear me, so it makes this feature almost worthless. Some people have this problem, some don't. I can lean over and yell into the microphone and it works well enough for the few calls I make in the car, but it's kind of silly. Second, using the iPod features sort of works but isn't worth it. You have to use the included special cable which splits into the USB port AND the 3.5mm port (blech). It charges some iPhones but not mine. With the iPhone, it takes over the UI so you have to use the stereo to pick songs (not good). You're better off using a regular 3.5mm cable and not using the iPod features. This works fine. Third, the design of the removable faceplate is not good. It is not anchored in the top right so that corner is always kind of sticking out and loose. Also, to anchor the bottom left you have to snap a plastic post into a plastic clamp, which is hard to do and seems like it will eventually break. Not sure what to do if/when that happens. Anyway, great value, 4 stars all the way, love the radio and A2DP!!

Pros: Fantastic sound!!!! Great looking display. Fast pairing and decent interfacing with Bluetooth. Super easy installation. Great radio reception. You really get a lot for this price!!! Cons: The manual needs some serious work. You'd think that for its thickness, it would actually tell you how to get to all the features of this receiver, but it usually just leaves you guessing in most cases. Some of the radio's features aren't even mentioned in the manual at all. I found most of them by accident-really by just thinking to myself, "this has to be in here somewhere!", and then just searching for it. There is no phonebook transfer-at least, I haven't found it and the manual doesn't mention it at all. Navigating the menu tree(s) is tricky as it doesn't seem to follow any logical or familiar path and the button sequence(s) is almost impossible to remember requiring one to hold a button for a few seconds for some settings and tapping the button for others in during the same process. It wont appear difficult as you read this, but trust me-it's ridiculous. There is no real tweaking of the preset EQ curves; any changes made to it cancels the setting out completely. Said EQ is only 2 band, although the receiver sounds excellent. Summary: A GOOD PRODUCT INITIALLY- IN DIRE NEED OF SOME POLISHING.

If you're looking to upgrade your stock stereo, you can't go wrong with the Dual XHD7714. For the price, it's packed with features. Some reviews say the controls are complicated. When you have a unit that does so many things, of course it's going to take some getting used to. The bluetooth works with my iPhone, I can hear and be heard fine. I haven't used bluetooth streaming music, I use the connector so I can control the music easier. With Crutchfield's install kits, intallation is a snap. Even a minor wiring issue was solved with a 5 minute phone call. Pros: Built-in HD tuner, iPod/iPhone controllability (yes, it's works correctly with my iPhone), built-in bluetooth, low price to feature ratio. Cons: Removable face seems flimsy, iConnector needs to be unplugged to access the CD (if you're using an iPod/iPhone, I doubt you'll use the CD much), HD tuner has trouble locking in some stations (probably more of a signal issue), Bluetooth doesn't always connect automatically. Some have said the remote is useless. Get a piece of heavy duty double stick tape, stick it in the proper location on your steering wheel, and voila, steering wheel controls! In summary, if you're looking for all the features, you're a tech junkie (like me), and you don't care that it's not built like a tank, this is the one for you.

Installed the unit in my son's 1998 Ford Contour. Install was painless, unit works great, all the input options cover him and his friends music completely with whatever format they have at hand. Sound quality is good with the stock speakers, even better with the Infinity upgrades we put in. With Bluetooth phone pairing was easy, and sound quality was reasonable. In the Contour the unit is angled towards the driver, and low in the dash, which is probably why I did not have any issues with washout on the display or mic pickup with Bluetooth that others have had. Unit quality for the faceplate is suspect, it flexs a lot when removing or replacing it. The buttons feel cheap and lightweight, as is the selector dial in the center. It has held up well in the 6 months it has been in service, and has not gotten any worse, so it probably will not be an issue Be sure to clean your antenna connection when installing this unit, and make sure it is in good condition. The HD quality was only fair when I first hooked it up to test it, it improved somewhat on the second time during final install, but reception was still less than I had seen with HD in other vehicles. On a hunch I pulled it back out and cleaned up the antenna connector and the reception is now superb

It pairs with my HTC Droid Eris and streams Pandora and pod casts without trouble. I have an hour long drive to work and it never drops out. I really enjoy getting my phone calls over the speakers. The mic is not that great, but I'm not closing business deals, so it works fine for me. The people I call say that I sound tinny and sometimes as if I'm in a tunnel. Apparently this is tolerable. The music sound quality is ok for me. A bit flat. Not as nice as my previous Alpine, but I'm not that discriminating. And for the price, I'm not complaining. I bought this unit because it was the only Bluetooth integrated receiver with HD built in in my price range. I was pulling in stations with reasonably clear reception from 70 miles away. Most HD stations came in crystal clear but a couple kept flipping back and forth between HD and FM, but that's probably because I was at the edge of the HD range. Bluetooth is a nice addition. My only complaints are that the phone output is very quiet, I had to crank the volume to hear the caller. I also felt like I had to speak loudly because the mic was so far away. It doesn't sync with your contacts either, but that's not a dealbreaker for me. Bluetooth audio streaming works great. The sound quality isn't the best but it's the only way to stream Pandora from my phone to the receiver other than a 3.5mm cable The midrange is a little muddy, but tolerable. The included iPod adapter plugs into the front only which is a minor annoyance. It's not made to work with the iPhone, so you'll get the Airplane Mode warning when it's connected. It will charge your iPhone still. Also, you can only play the songs directly stored on the iPod/Phone, you can't stream from any other source. The only other thing that's really annoying is that the controls are mostly on the passenger side so there's a lot of reaching for the controls. Still, this is a good receiver for the price

I've had multiple problems with the audio cutting out at random intervals (not enough to bother, but enough to remark about it). Also to note is that there are no audio controls through bluetooth other than "play" and "pause". You can't change songs, you can't even rewind the audio of a track. Pressing those buttons does nothing. The phone functionality works great, though I still don't know how to end a call without disconnecting the device from the stereo (I need to read the manual). People say they can hear me just fine through the integrated microphone in the deck, and they don't hear their voices when speaking (and I normally have the radio volume in the 30's, as I drive on the highway a lot). The HD radio is alright, but I find myself not listening to it because it seems like all they've done is opened up higher levels of Hz on the radio band. This has lead to the majority of stations (in the DFW market) to sound like crappy MP3s with tinny, garbled highs, since radio stations traditionally don't broadcast that high of frequency. I also don't know whether there is functionality to turn off HD radio (but I would if I listened to the radio more). I'm not sure whether this is an HD radio problem, or the deck's problem. The deck itself feels extremely cheap. The volume wheel is unsatisfying to turn, which some other reviewers pointed out. When ordering, I didn't think i would mind the cheap feel, but I definitely do.

I had high hopes for this unit, because of all the included features - bluetooth with built-in mic (easier to install), HD Radio, and ipod controls. Unfortunately, all of these features are poorly implemented on this unit, and I'm sending it back. Bluetooth - integrated mic is awful. I tried many calls at different speeds, everyone told me it sounded like I was in a tunnel. Bluetooth audio from my iphone worked well. HD Radio - the FM tuner and HD barely worked for my favorite station. The Dual's tuner couldn't hold the station on either HD or regular FM, mostly with horrible interference. My factory radio didn't have this problem, nor does my replacement head unit from Crutchfield. ipod controls - I use an iphone 3G and this unit is not completely compatible as an iphone accessory. Requires both the USB and audio ports be connected - it's not implemented as an ipod docking connector, but some less complete USB implementation. Annoying. My replacement unit has rear USB and full docking support, along with well integrated ipod controls and the option to bypass them and use the ipod. Overall - I had high hopes for great results with this receiver. Unfortunately, the low cost got me what I paid for in the implementation of the features I was really looking for. I ended up spending an additional $90 to get a Kenwood unit with a Parrot bluetooth module and external mic, and better iphone integration. Much better.

I bought this head unit because I wanted something that had iPod integration. Pros: Many features for the price (Bluetooth, HD radio, iPod integration) Sound quality is very good Bluetooth speakerphone quality is pretty good, although some callers still have a hard time hearing me. Relatively easy to install; I had to do some soldering to connect the wiring adapter to the head unit's wiring harness, but you could do this with screw caps too Cons: Controls on iPod get locked out when connected to head unit. You have to control the iPod through the head unit's interface. Album artwork is not displayed on iPod, although Title and Artist information are displayed. Radio reception is a little fuzzy at times, but I think I may have a loose antenna cable or it may just be because of where I live Have to use remote or the phone itself to dial numbers (can't dial numbers directly from head unit display)

Very good product for the money. Other reviewers have indicated the buttons and dial seem cheap and I have to agree. I've tested the phone sync via Bluetooth and the person called said I sounded like I was far away from the microphone. Otherwise, all the features work very well on this unit. What can I say that the other 159 people haven't? This is a great unit for the cost - Love the HD Radio support in it and the integrated Bluetooth for my phone. I only have 2 issues - 1. When using this with the Crutchfield install kit for a 2003 F-150 the flip front doesn't work with the kit's faceplate, you need to use the faceplate included with the unit. 2. iPod integration - While this works fine the way you pick the songs, playlists etc is pretty poor when you take into account that the dial doesn't seem to be completely accurate. Other than that great unit.

Great features for the price! I love the bluetooth - easy to sync and automatically syncs when i get in the car. Clear quality over the speakers of my car and a great safety feature. No problems with others hearing me. Ipod features work great. Brightness is not an issue in my Toyota Highlander - all is very clear night and day. Buttons are a bit small but compared to my husband's JVC (too complicated), it is very well laid out. I had everything pre set and working within 30 minutes without the manual. Only complaint is the didgital signal for some HD stations fades in and out and this stereo does not lock onto the analog sytem automatically - you choose between digital and analog in the set up menu. A minor problem compared to all this stereo offers! I would definately buy another for any car or truck! I also purchased the install card and had absolutely no problems - had it installed the following day after receiving the stereo and the guys at were knowledgeable and professional.

As most say, Good bang for the buck. Lots of features that you would otherwise have to pay a lot for. Contrary to what others say, I do not find the display to be too bright at all, and I am usually picky about this. Besides, it has a dimming feature! Anyway, I have only two complaints, both relating to Ipod function. First of all, you can't select "Genre's" as an option through the headunit. Kind of annoying when you want to listen to a shuffled mix of all your country or all your rock. Secondly, and the most annoying thing: The sound quality of the IPOD suffers. You can set the source level to be louder or quiter for each function (i.e. radio ,cd, Ipod), BUT, even when you set the level higher for the Ipod, the sound quality lacks. Bass is not as pure, treble is almost piercing or non existent. When my Ipod is plugged into my JVC in my other car, sound quality is better than CD, In this thing, it is nearly as bad as AM Radio. Horrible. But, I suppose I will live with it. Good overall buy.

I have an older car whose radio quit. Since I'm a bit cheap, and practical, I want to keep this old economy car (2000 Beetle) and drive it until it is completely used up. So I came to Crutchfield looking for solutions. Wow, this is a great solution. Never having HD radio before, I now know what I was missing. The BlueTooth connects automatically to my Android G1 phone after the easy setup. I can even stream audio from my phone using BlueTooth and never carry a USB or iPod again! Caller ID shows up on the radio! USB is a great way to transport music also! My kids can charge their iPods and share their music in the car. It looks great! It operates incredibly well! If you want Geek/Gizmo Factor on your car stereo, but have a budget, this is a great solution. Don't be afraid if you've never heard of the brand. This radio is excellent! Plus Crutchfield shipped fast, with all the parts I needed, and it was painless. I connected the harnesses together using the easy installation manuals the night before I installed the radio. I installed the radio at lunchtime in only 20 minutes using the tools supplied. AWESOME!

First off, this is a very good stereo for my basic needs. Huge upgrade from my factory stereo. I have two small complaints...1. This is not "made for iPhone". The box says "made for iPod", not "made for iPhone". You can also tell when you plug in the iPod cable, and it asks you to turn your iPhone into airplane mode. A made for iPhone device will not do this. Thats not a huge deal since it has bluetooth, so its not a deal killer. Second, when installed in my truck, the face plate has to come all the way off to change CD's. Again, not a big deal since I dont listen to CD's that much. Overall, good buy. If I was to buy again, I might look for something with more subwoofer control, but would consider this on as well.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this item from Crutchfield last week primarily based on features, price, and strength of the reviews here. I installed it fairly easily into a 2007 Honda Ridgeline. Pros: This little receiver has just about everything (except maybe XM/Sirius ready) for a very good price. IPod connectivity is great. Bluetooth works well. Aux connectivity works fine (although seems to require turning up the volume a bit more then the other modes). FM appears to be just as good as stock radio. HD radio stations are a nice addition, especially in the NYC area where there are at least a handful of good ones. Cons: As others have mentioned here, the faceplate feels a bit cheap. There's a bit of give to it and the buttons are definitely very plastic feeling. That being said, I don't see this being a major issue for anyone who doesn't plan on smashing their fist repeatedly into it. The buttons are also small compared to the stock Ridgeline radio. The stock radio was nice and roomy whereas the Dual feels quite cramped by comparison. As for one major item that a lot of people seem to mention, the display and its brightness, I have to say I haven't noticed it. Seems nice and bright to me. Maybe it's the configuration of my dashboard that helps, but I haven't seen anything even remotely like the viewing issues that others have been mentioning. This is not a luxury receiver by any stretch, but for the price you get an exceptional amount of functionality.

    Great Features, Bad Display

Alexey from North East on 1/24/2010

Good & Bad -Charges iPhone 3GS using the provided cable. Also, if you use your regular USB cable and plug iPhone 3GS to USB port on the unit, it won't charge the iPhone. So you have to use the provided cable. Also, you can't control iPhone using the built in iPod control. -Using the provided cable music plays OK through the Aux port. However, I occasionally have static noise when I play music of the iPhone using the provided cable. -Bluetooth works well with iPhone. The bad thing - because it uses built in microphone, the other person on the line barely could hear me even though I was trying to talk as loud as I could. -Price is excellent but LCD screen is very cheap as it has no more than 5 degrees Vertical Viewing Angle. My radio sits slightly at the angle in the 05 Honda Civic. So basically I can't see what is on display during a daylight even after I set the illumination to highest possible setting. It is fine after sunset. -It may be cool to have red light around the main Power On/Off button when you turned off your radio. However, I have my radio connected to direct 12V battery and I bypass the key switch. So even though I turn the radio off and leave the car, this button stays illuminated through the night and draws the power from my car battery. I am sure it is not a lot of power but I don not know how much and how many hours would it take to drain the battery enough not to start the car. There is no way to turn it off. The only way is to take the faceplate off

I got this mainly for the Digital Radio, AUX and USB inputs. Installation my 2000 Honda was easy, but I've done this a few times over the years. Anyway, the unit works great so far. I didn't find the controls to be all that intuitive, but they were easy enough to figure out with the instruction manual and a little patience. The Bluetooth feature is nice too. Anyway, I really like the features of this radio, but I really don't like the lighting. I knew it would be bright, because all aftermarket radios are bright for me. I thought that the dimming option would work for the whole thing, but it only works for the LCD screen. During the day, the unit looks great. However, at night the buttons are the brightest blinding blue. I really don't get it. Whoever designs these things apparently doesn't do much night driving, they have much different tastes than I do, or they don't care if they can't see the road. Also, when you turn it off, the big center select button turns into a big ugly red thing. WHY? Hey radio designers. Here's a suggestion. I want to hear it. I want it to be easy to use. I want it to look good. I don't want it to be visible from outer space at night! Thank you! Anyway, my solution was simply reuse the hinged cover that I made for my last car stereo.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I can't think of the last time I gave a bad review to a product. I'm pretty easy to please. I purchased this item because of the good reviews, and I'm lukewarm about it. I like the iPod controls and the USB input. The radio itself sounds good on my stock speakers. I am having trouble with some HD channels. Sometimes the regular channel sounds better than the HD version, but the radio keeps reverting to the HD, which fades in and out (satellite I assume). I need to figure out a way to control that - if there is a way. We had the receiver professionally installed ($65) because it seemed too complicated for my vehicle (04 Saturn Vue), but that would be any radio. The small watch-type battery that came with the remote was dead. I had to go out and pay $5 for another one (and hope that it was the battery and not the remote, because you can't return batteries.) I emailed Dual to let them know and they just said, "Sorry." Also, the bluetooth sounds bad to people I'm calling. They can't understand me and say I sound like I'm in a tunnel. I disabled it because it's unusable. I have a Motorola phone. I guess I'm a little disappointed. I could have bought a cheaper brand-name radio.

My wife loves her new radio. The blue tooth paired right up with her LG phone and the sound quality is good. Using her Ipod is easy as well. Just plug it into the USB & Mini jack, it works and sounds fantastic. The ipod controls are simple and easy to use. The only slightly negative things are: As many other reviewers have stated the buttons feel flimsy. I think if you normally take care of your things the radio will be just fine. All for under $200. Not to mention all the connectors and customer support from Crutchfield. Installation was clean and simple. Yes, the plastic may feel alittle flimsy, the front interface gives a little, but it works and works well, no matter if driving over choppy roads or smooth surfaces. This Dual deck satisfied my desire for the hands-free phone, iPod control, and HD radio. Plus, it sounds really good on the stock factory speakers. I was replacing a factory installed unit with a new one and wanted something I could interface my iphone with. I saw that this also had HD radio built in along with usb input and bluetooth I had to get it. I wasn't disappointed. I was very impressed with HD radio. It really is worth it. Sound is crisp and clear and definitely a degree of improvement over FM radio. Plus the additional HD stations in my area are great. Seems to give programmers some room to play more than same ol', same ol'. I was able to pair my iphone with the radio easily, even though I had never done that before. Calls sound fine but I am told it is not the loudest on the receiving end. Still workable and beats getting a ticket nowadays. When I plugged my iphone 3Gs into the usb port it said on the phone 'application not compatible with phone' or something to that effect. Hopwever, I was still able to play music through the radio and control it from the head unit. It also displayed song information. I haven't tried tagging as I don't use the itunes store much at all. The only downside is not the prettiest of displays. For all the features you get I can deal with that.

Installed this radio in my '05 Xterra 6 weeks ago. The lock-in and sound on HD is awesome, as is the analog FM sensitivity. Bluetooth phone link is flawless, and the iPod interface is easy to navigate and works well. Now the bad news. In this car, the display is unreadable in daylight. At night it's OK. There is no adjustment for contrast. Maybe it's the angle of the radio, or maybe I got a bad sample, but unless I move my head over to right in front of the radio, it's just a black blank. And the removable faceplate feels like it's terribly flimsy, and if I dare to take it on and off a few times it will never latch correctly again. So I leave it in place. Most of the time, I'm using HD presets or an iPod playlist, so it's not a continuing annoyance. But I sure wish I could see the caller ID on the radio's display....

She loves her new radio (i put it in now so i wouldn't have to worry bout doing it on Christmas) The directions that crutchfield sent made installation a breeze. The blue tooth paired right up with her phone which is good cause my brand new Magellan gps (4700) couldn't even do that. i pod cable comes with the unit, a special one that goes into the usb and aux port, so if anything happens to that might b hard to replace it. The ipod control is simple and easy to get accustomed to easily. Also another not on the blue tooth, it works and sounds excellent. Ive used several headset and also speaker type blue tooth and this one by far exceeds any of them. i can hear people without any problems and i haven't had any complaints from anyone Ive been on the phone with. The only negative things Ive noticed so far: 1.) The faceplate has to come all the way off to change cds which can be a pain in the butt cause its rather difficult to put it back on. This could be easily fixable if it would just fold down instead of completely removing it. 2.) Like many other reviewers the buttons feel extremely cheap like loose plastic. I understand its a cheap receiver but should feel that cheap. If your looking for a good basic upgrade from stock and want multiple options this radio is the best way to go.

I'm very pleased with this. I really wanted built in Hands Free BlueTooth at a reasonable cost. This with the built in IPOD controls and the HD radio, you really can't beat it. The only mild downside and I'm not complaining is what is mentioned in other reviews. The plastic is somewhat cheap. It looks nice but it's definitely not $300 head unit in appearance. It's just a $300 head unit in performance. The HD radio is nice. Not only do you pick up other station feeds (typically commercial free) but some AM stations are broadcast on these feeds so hockey and baseball games come in great. The Ipod integrates well too. The cons? It's in my wife's car thought I have one sitting at home I'm going to put in our van and I may put it in my car as well. I haven't been using remote either. This radio install easily into a '98 S70 and is flush. Crutchfield says you need to notch the dash but you do not need to. There are two notches on the vertical sides of the cavity at the front that match up with stereo box frame (can't remember the term for it).

I use the bluetooth to listen to podcasts from my smartphone and also use it to make calls. It really works well. I really have nothing negative to say about this radio, you get lots of features for pretty short money. This stereo is great!! I installed it in a '97 Eclipse Spyder and it looks and sounds great. I didn't know the Sacramento area had so many HD FM stations. I installed it the hard way...I didn't empty out the shipping box, I just pulled the reciever box out and left everything else in. After drilling holes and a lot of other work, I had finished. I finally emptied out the shipping box and discovered the installation adapter. I took everything out and re-did the install. This adapter took my install from an ok mammy-jammy, okie rigged look to a professional look in no time flat. My install looks great...just as if I had a stereo shop install it. The wiring adapters made the install that much easier. There was even a factory amplifier adapter to the amp I didn't even know the car had! That amp took the sound quality even much higher than before this install. I am thrilled with Crutchfield and even pleasantly surprised by the quality of the install. I shouldn't be surprised though because their great quality and customer service is why I have been doing business with them for over ten years. Thanks to my advisor, Duke for his help in the product selection.

I purchased this unit as a replacement for the factory BOSE system in my wife's2003 Nissan Pathfinder that was dying a slow death. This was a great choice. So many options for listening to music and the bluetooth works great. As usual, Crutchfield made the install as slick as a greased goose with all the info I needed to do the job right and make it look like a professional install. Thanks Crutchfield and Dual !

I wanted to upgrade the stereo in my 1997 Tahoe and bought the DUAL. The 1st unit had an issue with volume from the CD. Crutchfield was very good about return of the unit. The 2nd unit arrived quickly and took minutes to reinstall! I also am not sure why the reviews note quality issues - the face plate maybe a bit more flimsy than higher end units but still acceptable. I use the HD radio in ATL and have doubled the available stations using the existing 12 yr old factory antenna. As for Bluetooth, it works better than any other system I have tried (4 or 5). The microphone is great & sound over the speakers is clear. A MAJOR improvement and safety feature! It upgrades my old truck to features on contemporary expensive vehicles of today. The AUX works great with my MP3 player but the USB is amazing. I used an extra 4gb card and easily plugged it in. The USB is so easy because you can just update the files on your home computer and file them in directories. With USB cards dropping in price, it is an easy way of carrying your music library around. I don't have an IPOD. The remote is useful - I can easily change channels and FF and pause USB files. I've put a small piece of Velcro and I'll never misplace it. Overall except for the returned defect I am extremely pleased with this affordable unit with every feature! Thinking about upgrading my BMW since it does not have half the features.

I am very happy with this stereo. It has all the features I wanted, HD, USB, IPOD, Detachable face, MP3 CD, 3 preamp outputs, subwoofer volume control. I was also looking for large buttons for the presets, which this has. I was also happy to find it has a blinking red light after the face is removed, so it looks like a security system. It glows a nice blue at night. The volume dial is big and has a clicking when you rotate, which is good.

I have had no major problems with this receiver. It may be a little shottier on the build quality, but it works just fine. The buttons seem to be cheap but again, have always functioned perfectly the way they should for me. I use my iPod through the receiver almost 100% of the time I'm in the car, and it works great! All the display options and sound settings make it really easy to customize it for me. I especially appreciate having the option to set a certain volume that the stereo will always start at when you start the car (so if I forget to turn it down after driving with the music blaring and the windows down, it won't blow my ears off the next time I start the car. :) Overall a very nice stereo loaded with features! Crutchfield made it SIMPLE to install this on my own, with no previous car experience! Instructions are straight forward and easy to do. Installed in a total of 30 minutes. Definitely suggest this radio and this website!

...but most of the comments are way off. Maybe Dual is new in the car stereo market, but they've been making high-end audio equipment for *at least* 35 years. I don't know what the people who complained about display brightness were talking about. Maybe it's a RTM issue: you can set brightness to one of 3 levels. The buttons at the bottom of the display are small and a little tricky to use at first, but if that's the worst thing about the unit (and IMO it is), it's still an incredible deal. I set mine up without the manual, but you really should read it because there are a lot of cool features that you might not know to look for, and it's exceptionally detailed and well-written. I have not tried the bluetooth, but sound is stunningly beautiful and crisp, even through factory speakers. I don't have an ipod, but there is a very ipod-looking cable in the box. The only real problem I've encountered it's so beautiful that I'm going to take the faceplate off when I park -- but the faceplate comes in a custom, padded case that looks like you could drive over it with a truck. Could not be happier. It's worth at least twice the price, which was actually less than I'd have paid elsewhere because Crutchfield threw in the install kit and specific detailed instructions for my car. I could say lots more, but not in 1500 chars :-) BTW, there's no reason to buy car stereo from anyone but Crutchfield: price/performance beats any other vendor by miles.

I bought this radio for all the options that it offered and at the price offered. After I installed it in my car and started to use it I realized it was too cheap feeling for me. Below are my pros and cons: Pro 1) HD radio built in 2) Fairly easy to use right out of the box. Other units with all these features take time to learn. 3) I would say the bluetooth but my con below eliminates it. However, my cell phone connected with it very easy and the functions were good. Cons 1) Sticks far out of the dash 2) Buttons feel cheap when pressing them. 3) When I made calls the other line said it sounded like I was in a tunnel. Others said they could hear themselves. 4) The HD stations would come in and out making it very frustrating to listen to. 5) I know I could put a filter on but when using the ipod or other device I could hear engine whine through the speakers. I returned the unit and am thinking about buying a Pioneer now. One more thing, I would only buy from Crutchfield even if the price is a bit higher. Their support and policies are top notch!

This is a great stereo, with great features, for the price . Sound quality is far superior to the factory installed stereo. And I didn't change my factory speakers out for upgrades. If you are going to install this yourself you had better have a little bit of an idea of what you are doing to begin with or be very mechanically inclined. The instructions they send for installation are ALMOST useless not quit, they do give you a starting point. I would have like to seen a lot more detail in the instructions and the pictures in the instructions. This kit was for a Toyota Camry the pictures should have looked at least a little like a Camry dash. I gave it 4 stars because of the poor instructions.

I must say that I was a little hesitant at first to buy this radio after reading some of the reviews. But as of now I couldn't be more satisfied with my decision. I don't know what the big deal is with the comments about the buttons and the display. Sure, I've seen better buttons and dials but I think these work and feel fine. As for the display, the unit has a brightness setting that you can adjust. I can see mine fine in all lights. I really like all of the features in the radio. The HD and USB work great. I don't have any problems picking up the HD stations and the reception of the analog stations is still good too eventhough I live in a rual area. The BT phone works better than I thought it might. The controls take a little time to work through and I found myself going back to the manual a couple of times but no big deal. With all of the settings and features on this, I am surprised I have been back to it more often. The installation wasn't bad at all. I had a couple of questions regarding the installation kit I got for Crutchfield but tech support answered them right away. For me...I made the right choice. I think this is a great radio and for the price and I will probably end up with another one in my wife's car before the end of the year.

I purchased the Dual XHD7714 for my 2002 GMC Sierra after the original radio went out. I decided on the unit because it gave me multiple options to play my music (USB mainly). The controls take a little getting used to but it's an easy transition. I'm able to get a good sound out it with the bass and treble controls (never been much for the preset equalizer - I like to tailor my sound my way). The unit has good separation and I'm hearing instruments that I didn't hear before. We have a lot of HD radio stations in Miami and I had no problem locating them even without reading the instructions. The reception is excellent. The volume/selector knob feels light, it spins too easily. If Dual put a dampener on the knob to make it rotate with more resistance, that would solve the problem. I don't use the phone much so I haven't tried the Blue Tooth yet. Very good unit for the price.

The sound quality is great, I get great HD Radio reception pretty much everywhere in Orange County and LA County. When I am driving in the hills it cuts out a little. Now I do not like to listen to nonHD stations. It synced up with my Blackberry with no problems. People can hear me clearly on the Bluetooth and I can hear them clearly as well. I can stream Pandora radio from my Blackberry over the Bluetooth to the radio. I like being able to plug in a memory stick into the USB or my IPod, very handy feature. However the manufacturing quality wasn't up to par. The buttons feel cheap when you press them and the dial feels flimsy. The screen is tiny. The wire that comes with it is made with a cheep plastic and the way it is positioned is liable to break off the faceplate. The instructions for installing the radio in my 1999 Buick Century stated that I had to cut out the back support plate. This was easy with a dremel. The special notices did not mention that the ring cover would not fit over the radio when the dash molding was put back in place. So the looks aren't as good as they could be. FM HD stations mostly come in but sometimes fade in and out. AM reception is completely horrible. Forget about HD there. I can barely receive even the most strongest analog stations in the area. Outside of that, the radio operates fine and was a good price for all the features.

The good: I purchased this radio because of its excellent feature set, and yea, it definitely does everything it says...Bluetooth, IPod, HD, etc. The bad: The first radio I installed had terrible static on the AUX channel. Its Bluetooth mic was also very tinny. I could also hear the radio stations over the speakers even when I was on other inputs. RMA. Retry. The second radio had less static problems, but acted very weird. Radio stations would cut out and not come back until I powered the unit off. It almost seemed like there were software logic problems in the unit. Sound quality doesn't seem very "full", even playing with Bass/Treble/EQ.

(Installed in 2004 Honda Odyssey) After considering numerous reviews on this product, I decided to roll the dice and see for myself if this unit was right for me. My MAIN GOALS were to have BT, and a outlet to play ipod from my Iphone 3G. After trying this unit out for a day or two, it is now back on its way to Crutchfield for an exchange. For simplicity, I will outline my opinion in pros and cons: Pros: 1) To me, this is a nice looking radio. Sure the buttons don't 'feel' as expensive as they could, but for that I refer you to said price. 2) PACKED with features. 3) Display is adequate for day or evening. 4) Nice buttons to connect/disconnect phone within easy reach. 5) When HD stations tune in, very clear sound quality. 6) Handy, slim remote. 7) CD sounds great. Cons: 1) Iphone 3G connects to BT, and sounds Ok on my end - but it sounds hollow and echos to your listener. When fumbling around with settings the phone disconnects and then has to be re-paired. - both deal killers for me. BT needs lots of improvement! 2) Plugging in my XM on the front outlet produces a low buzzing noise when playing - a deal killer for me. (turn the fan up on the A/C helps to quiet it for those blessed with patience) 3) Overall sound seems skewed to treble, but this is adjustable to be fair. Hope this helps you. (I'm going for the more expensive Pioneer now - lesson learned!) PS - Thanks Crutchfield for a pleasant, easy transaction.

On a 1-10 Scale: Overall: 9 Ease of Use: 9 Features: 9 Quality: 8 Sound Quality: 9 Value: 10 I've had this radio in my mustang for a month (stock speakers), and it literally blows me away. The sound quality is excellent, especially for the HD stations, and is extremely crisp & clear. The built in iPod charger/connection works great, and the ability to throw in a 4GB memory stick and play from that was exactly what I was looking for. Also, they must have fixed/revamped the display, because I find it perfectly readable even in direct sunlight (convertible, top down, sun overhead) - no trouble reading the display at all. It's the best radio that I have found with the features & sound quality that it has without going up to a $350-$400 unit. I'm going to buy another one of these for my wife's car. If there were only 1 thing I wish could be better on this unit, it would be the faceplate itself.. The buttons do feel a little "Cheap", and even after a month I have a little trouble putting in on in the morning as it doesn't just "pop" in, it has to go on exactly in a certain way and you have to make sure the bottom tabs snap in. Other than that, no complaints about this unit at all. Sounds great, features are plentiful, and I find it compares very well even to higher priced units that don't offer BT or HD except as "options". Would definitely recommend this radio to someone looking for a feature-rich & good sounding unit.

This radio was easy to install, as are all of the systems purchased from Crutchfield, with their adapters and instruction. I shortened cabling a little, wished that I hadn't, apparently didn't learn from last time (did the same thing). My advice is to use as received. The radio performs as advertized. The handsfree doesn't work too well in my 2003 VW deisel (TDI). Part wind and road noise, part my failing hearing - echoes and background noise due to needed volume. My Sirius transmits to the FM band and the iPhone 'bluetooths' my tunes to the Dual. Very handy. All of those CDs can go back inside on the shelf. The HD is a new experience, cleaner than FM and I like it. Only flaw is some (alternator, I think) noise on AM band, where I mostly listen to NPR - can't be ignition. Aurally great, visually kinda 50's chrome and glitter - not at all as pleasing and european as the Monsoon that came out. Still learning how to adjust everything, but it does everything that I need, again, as advertized. Had some questions at install time, tech support was great.

The plethora of features offered at such an affordable price and positive reviews are what motivated this purchase. Installation was a breeze but I wish I could have the trim piece on so it looked a little cleaner in the dash. Of particular interest is how it sounds: amazing (considering what I had originally.) I don't even think I need to purchase new speakers since I intend on purchasing a new car within the next year. I don't have the same issues with the display others have mentioned, but it may be a lighting issue. More importantly, the HD radio reception is absolutely fantastic. First, I have to say that I was concerned about the display after reading all the reviews stating that it was unreadable. Even so I decided to giive it a try. Boy, was I surprised after installing this unit and driving from Madison to Chicago and back today. The display was too bright at times and I had to dim it. I would think that the only way this display would wash out was if your dash was uncovered by the roofline/windshield. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating was the seemingly weak tuner. From just outside Rockford toward Chicago I rarely got a full digital signal until reaching Naiperville(granted 88 is a pretty rural stretch of hiway). Bluetooth worked perfectly all day, allowing me to stay in touch and keep both hands on the wheel through the numerous construction zones. IPod controls were the same, they worked just fine. Overall this is another example of a great product, great service from Crutchfield(again) and another good buy. Money well spent.

But being the cheapskate I am, any money spent would have to give a great value. This Dual did not disappoint. Installation took about 45 minutes with the FREE installation gear and adjusting the settings to my liking took about another 15. Even the BlueTooth was a snap to set up. My only gripe is the blue display background color. All the other lighting on my dash is green, so it would have been nice to have a color choice for the radio's lighting. But all in all, a unit with this many features at this price is truly a steal. Cheapskates rejoyce!

I couldn't wait to hook it up which took about an hour.........remember to move the gear selector before you disconnect the battery to remove the old radio if the radio is below the AC system AND it's blocked by the gear selector. Remember to put it back in park while doing the wiring. It took longer playing with the radio than installing it. You've drill thru some of the menus to get where you're going but once there, it's all good. Let me live with it a bit longer and I'll give an update again. I may order a second receiver for my other vehicle if all goes well!

Ok the CD receiver is a great item. i am just now putting in a system for my car and i had little to spend on my amp and receiver but this is one and the best head units i have seen. the sound quality is good and all the features r easy to use. Even the bluetooth which i never thought i would use is so easy to work. the only two negatives on the item is one the faceplate doesnt push itself back up and when working the ipod its hard to tell what song is what because it displays the arist first but those two minor problems arent enought to make it a bad buy so for this price their isnt a better head unit out there

Upgraded my very basic factory stereo to this unit. Installed myself with the help of the crutchfield installation guide and the crutchfield wiring harnesses. Radio has a tons of features to play with. Good reception on radio, however it wants to default to HD stations. Thus, reception is suseptible to dropouts when a station can not get a good HD signal. All the other features work as advertised. I do not have an IPhone/IPod, so that is the only feature I haven't used. Bluetooth paired nicely with my Samsung cell and my HP GPS receiver. The radio has a lot of features so the learning curve is a little steep. Overall, this has to be the best value for the money. Since I am upgrading from a basic CD factory radio, I am absolutely pleased with the purchase.

My first unit was faulty. The radio tuner stopped working two minutes after turning on the car. The iPod would randomly disconnect. However, Crutchfield sent me a replacement unit at no charge. They also e-mailed a pre-paid label to return the first unit. Crutchfield was very helpful on the phone. When I had trouble removing the faulty unity and disconnecting the wires, they talked me through it. The installation pack fit perfectly into my car. It was fairly easy to install and the instructions followed the parts supplied. With the new unit, the HD radio works flawlessly. The iPod controls work great. The bluetooth transmits sound clearly and effectively. Those are the reasons I bought the radio. There are times when the sun shines on the radio, making it difficult to read the screen. The screen is somewhat small. The buttons do feel somewhat flimsy. However, the remote control is very sturdy and completes all the functions of the faceplate. I would recommend this product to others looking for HD radio, iPod controls and Bluetooth capabilities. I would also that recommend anyone who has had problems with the tuner return the unit to Crutchfield within the first 30 days, or to Dual within the second to 12th months, and ask for a replacement unit.

With an old Kenwood CD receiver attached to the original factory speakers of my 1994 Mercedes C-220, I was ready for a sound upgrade. So, I thought, why not start with getting rid of the old Kenwood and installing something a little more current? I soon found that my decision to purchase the Dual XHD7714 from Crutchfield was a great one. The installation was simple and quick and the features and sound improvement were more than I could have ever asked for at this price. It sounds like I bought a brand-new sound system, especially when I play HD Radio stations. As for the many features, I particularly enjoy using the radio's built-in Bluetooth to talk without being distracted by my cell phone. So, in short, you can't go wrong with the Dual XHD7714 and the excellent service from Crutchfield.

The Dual XHD7714 is the best buy in this price class by far. Built-in HD Radio and Bluetooth is amazing. Why do the other guys want so much more for these "extras" when Dual makes them standard equipment? (I'll let you answer that one yourself) The only gripe I have is: even though you can dim the head unit's display easily enough, the cool blue lighting around the USB and AUX ports is not dim-able and is too bright for me during night driving. I installed this radio in a 2003 Camry. The radio is placed pretty high up on the center dash so the light is very distracting. I made a shield out of electrical tape which blocks this and doesn't look too dorky. It's a shame that ALL the lights on the faceplate can't be dimmed. I took one star off my rating for this reason. If your car has the radio located lower on the dash this might not be a problem for you. I can live with the shield I made knowing that this radio really packs a lot of excellent features into an affordable package.

Let's keep it simple - install was simple with everything Crutchfield included. I wanted everything BUILT IN - bluetooth, iPod control, HD radio. No add-on modules = simplicity. RTM and you'll be able to do many awesome things with this receiver. Bluetooth hookup to iPhone 3G = simple. And now with the new 3.0 iPhone software you don't even need the cable to play songs from your iPhone. You do need the cable if you want the song tags to show up on the receiver. Your choice, either way = simplicity. I live in the city (not a suburb and saying I live in the city, you know who you are) and HD radio reception is awesome. I work in IT and have a house full of gadgets. It seems I'm often disapointed by products that over-promise and under-deliver, or that have glitches that cripple important features. When I saw the price of this deck and the zillion features, I was prepared to be disapointed, even though most of the reviews were good. Not so. HD radio works as advertised, as well as iPod support. Even charges my 3G iPhone and does iTunes tagging. Most surprisingly bluetooth works without an issue. BT can often be glitchy, but not this time. I also have not experienced the problem reading the display that others have had. Mine's bright and readable from any angle. Maybe this was a problem for early models, and it's been fixed now?

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This stereo has poor FM radio reception. I live in somewhat distant suburbs of Boston, and never had trouble receiving Boston stations with my four factory car radios. This stereo has trouble holding a station in analog, and frequently drops out. It locks onto digital stations when it can, and has frequent dropouts there, too. This stereo has a great mix of features for the price: Bluetooth phone and media streaming, wireless remote, thumb drive playback and IPOD connectivity. If you are close to your favorite stations, this could be a great bargain. If you are traveling across the US as I am this summer, don't count on picking up stations between cities. I wish the display were dimmable like factory stereos. There are brackets included to fix the removable front panel to the body of the stereo. The problem is that the trim plate CANNOT be applied when these brackets are in place, so don't spend an hour trying to figure out a way around it, unless you want to butcher your trim plate. If FM is not a priority for you, this is a great bargain. Of course it mated perfectly with the Crutchfield adapters. The adapters and vehicle-specific instructions saved me a lot of time and money.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The features plus price plus quality = good value. You can't get all the features wanted in perfect design and quality for $10. Quality and features as expected for the price. BT microphone is only OK. Location on radio seems to be a problem. People I call have trouble hearing me. But it's usable and much more convenient than a headset. Annoying that audio tracks do not play in expected sorted order, when using USB. Workaround is to manually presort files on the Flash-RAM. Display is viewable during day. Yes, design is not as rigid as ideal, but considering the price, acceptable. It is good replacement for my JVC HDR-1, which was comparable in value and design. It has similar display and "feel" quality. It was a piece of cake swapping out the JVC HDR-1 with this new one (after-market for after-market). No need to do most of the the install steps, as they were already done and adapter reusable. Out and in. Only time consuming part was the wiring harnesses, and that wasn't bad. Markings on harnesses were very clear. Marking on just ONE of the radio wires was indistinct. Tech. Support was quick to help me out with that problem. Conveniently available late at night when I was finishing the install.

I will start with that I think this is one of the best deals out there. I only had two requirements for my next radio, Bluetooth and iPod control. Though I would much rather like the plug be in the back, I found a much better use for the 16gb thumb drive I got from my work. The first time I used the phone feature I was asked if I was using a headset as I sounded far away. This is installed in a 03 Wrangler, and the mic is in the head unit. Other than that it sounds fine. Don't have HD radio here yet but I can say that I get much better reception than stock. Also got kicker speakers and this unit pushes them great. I bought this head unit for my wife's birthday present to be installed in her '02 Silverado, and it sounds great! I added a new set of Kickers for the doors, and this unit sounds really crisp on the HD channels. I really decided on this radio for the compatibility (although I wish it supported SD cards) and the Bluetooth feature. It streams MP3s nicely from my LG 5300 phone, although I hear a slight hum on the BT at higher volume levels. I admit sum of the controls are a little clumsy, but at this price, I really have to recommend it to my friends! She really likes the hands-free feature of the BT, but really I wish I could open the handset to stop the voice coming through the speakers when the phone is synced up, its a bit strange to stop the tunes w/ passengers in the truck. I've had this installed for about a week and am very pleased. The bluetooth and ipod/aux-in were must-have features for me, and the HD was just a nice bonus that I've been enjoying. Honestly, I'm not really sold on HD as having any noticeably higher quality, because the only stations that seem to have HD components were the strongest FM channels anyway, so I don't notice them coming in any better than they already were. However, the "bonus" stations you can get on HD are great to have now, so that makes it well worth it. I also would tend to disagree with the claim that "even regular FM and AM stations come in at higher quality" - that has not proven true for me, but it is certainly no worse. The Bluetooth feature has been generally good. The caller always sounds loud and clear on my end, but I have received mixed reviews so far on how I sound to them. The reviews have ranged from "I couldn't even tell you were using a Bluetooth", to "I can understand you but you sound a little 'digital'", all the way to one friend (on a cell) who said I was so garbled that he couldn't understand a word I was saying, resulting in my having to pick up the handset. So far, though, it's been more positive than negative and I love the safety and convenience of being hands-free. Ipod/Aux input work great, and I should report that, even though it's not supposed to be compatible, the USB actually charges my iPhone 3G. I didn't expect it to, so that was an excellent bonus.

People that I called said via the bluetooth feature, which I really liked, said I sounded like most usual bluetooth headsets, maybe a bit more tinnier, but all was fine. Pairing was not easy to learn how to do, but now it's a snap. Thanks for such a great selection. Doug

Having never installed a radio before, I was a bit concerned about trying to install it, but the installation guide and kit made it easy. So far have used the BT for both calls and streaming music from my phone. Have also used a USB drive to play music with no problems. I listen to a lot of AM radio, and the tuner is an improvement over the factory radio, with much clearer sound and less static going under bridges and by power lines. Having the radio mute when making and receiving calls is great. However, I have been told that I am hard to hear on the phone. I haven't been on the other end, so hard to tell how bad it is. Otherwise, with all the features (HD tuner, BT, USB socket), it's hard to beat for the price.

I have not been disappointed! Bluetooth paired easily with my Blackberry Curve-my favorite feature Ipod cables-work flawlessly HD takes some getting used to-some stations with weak signals drop-this is not a problem with the receiver-but signal strength The one common criticism-the dim display has not been an issue. I installed in my 88 prelude which has a sunroof and lots of glass and I live in sunny TX. Simply read the manual and you'll find that you can set the display on the highest setting during the initial set up and it shouldn't be a problem. I purchased this unit for my 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan. This unit with the stock speakers sounds excellent. You have to make sure you set the loud setting to get the fullness in the sound. The Bluetooth works well, but you have to make sure to speak in at least a normal tone or louder for the other party to hear you. The HD tuner works well despite the fact I live in very hilly area. The CD, Aux, and USB sound just as good. I read the other reviews about the display. In the Caravan even in bright light you can see it. This is most likely due to how it mounts in the van. The mounting bracket, wiring harnesses, and MasterSheet made it a breeze to install correctly the first time. All in all an excellent buy for the money.

I received the XHD7714 yesterday and after recycling the packing peanuts and shipping box, started reading the installation instructions. AS always, Crutchield has lived up to their reputation by providing the information sheet needed about my vehicle and a "Killer" wiring harness that allows you to make an easy and professional installation. My eleven year old son will be in good hands with Crutchfield when it will be his turn to up-grade the car audio in his first car. He will be even better off when he is ready to make audio and video decisions for his own home. The XHD7714 really does provide the best bang for the buck! IPod control built in Bluetoth (within 4 minutes my son had our 2 cell phones paired to the 7714) HD radio USB & Aux inputs My two minor gripes: 1. Dual engineers apparently did not feel that it would be a good feature to provide a connection which would allow the vehicle's instrument dimmer to control the nigh-time brightness of the display. 2. No provision to be able to operate unit when the engine is off and key is not in the aux. position. I had been spoiled by my previous aftermarket stereo purchased (Blaupunkt Nevada RDM 168) from Crutchfield. I have to agree with other reviewers that the radio faceplate and buttons are a little flimsy and do feel cheap. Too late to return to Crutchfield. What a pain to have to do the installation again. 2) Volume sometimes goes up on it's own. See same issue in another reviewer's comments. After reading other reviews here, I decided to give this unit a try and I must say that I am glad I did. I have installed car stereos both professionally and otherwise for many years, so I have encountered many different types and brands of stereos. I do agree with others here that the display could be brighter. I also agree that the unit does not have the look of quality that some other brands do. However, the unit delivers on all fronts without a hitch. It is really cool to get in my car and hear my phone comfirm Bluetooth connection to both the phone and streaming audio. Add to that the ease and convenience of plugging my USB stick into the front panel to tap into whatever music I have on it at the time. The front panel AUX in lets my son plug in his player when he is in the car with me. Then add to all of that, HD radio. I don't own an iPod, but I must admit the iTunes tagging feature is something I would like to explore in the future. I added a steering wheel control interface, which makes controlling this unit just like the original equipment stereo. I can be listening away at any volume and never miss a call as music play is suspended and muted to allow me to take the call by a simple press of a front panel button. It even has a CD player when you need it. So far the pros far, far outweigh the cons. If you are looking for the ultimate in funtionality along with good all around performance in one very reasonably priced package, this is it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a good device for your car. It has some great features and I really like it, but here are some pro's and con's: Pro's: * HD radio tuner with 18 FM presets * Bluetooth that works very well with iPhone 3G * Plays audio from the iPhone's ipod via the aux cable Con's: * Very poor display - I can't believe a manufacturer can screw up something so basic. You just can't see anything during the day on this screen! * Does not charge the iPhone via the USB - would have been a nice plus * Not compatible with iPhone ipod via the given cable - must use AUX cable, which is ok, but you lose the ability to control the ipod via the panel/remote. Overall, best device that's available out there for people having an iPhone in my opinion as of Mid 2009.

After reading some of the reviews here I was a little hesitant but made the purchase anyway given Crutchfiled's customer support and return policy. I've had the radio a few days and I'm very satisfied. Installation: Very easy. Took me less than 1hr to install, and I haven't installed a car stereo in years. Radio: 1) HD radio is very cool, especially the multicast -> basically doubles the amount of quality radio stations i can listen to. And I really like having the song/artist info displayed. 2) Bluetooth works great. Very nice feature and easy to use. 3) Ipod functionality is very good as well. Good easy navigation through the car stereo. 4) Overall look and feel is great and for the price it can't be beat. Only reason it isn't 5 stars is I wish the display was a little brighter, can be hard to see when wearing sunglass and the sun in your face, but if I take off the glasses I can see the display just fine.

Good product overall. Pros: Great price. Loaded with features. Installation was easy. HD radio works as advertised. Sound is pretty good thru car's original factory speakers. Cons: Callers couldn't hear me very well when using bluetooth, which is a shame because otherwise bluetooth worked flawlessly. Don't like front inputs, but I knew that before purchasing. Display has 3 brightness settings. In daylight, the display is simply NOT VISIBLE at ANY SETTING. Can't ephasize this enough. I was completely unable to see the display in normal day-time lighting. Exchanged unit for a Kenwood.

I ordered this unit because I hated the Blue tooth ear piece I had and wanted something I didn't have to wear. Once I got everything installed I have found everything works brilliantly and could not be more pleased. My only complaint is with the universal mount that came with the unit. The instructions were good but lacked a bit for what had to be cut out to fit my radio in there. Once I figured that out everything went very well. I am thinking of getting one for a family member later this year.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The stereo is awesome and has the most features for the price by a mile. I was a little disappointed with Cruthfield's installation instructions. They were extremely basic and left certain things out, like how you have to cut a bracket out of the dash so it will fit. Also the plastic pieces that were used to fit the truck were designed to work best with a 1980's Chevy or GMC and could be used with modification on more current vehicles. Overall though the product is great and I would probably buy here again, because although I had minor issues I am sure they would be 10 fold anywhere else. Also it took me about 3 hours to install into a 1998 GMC Sonoma.

Purchased this stereo for my wife's car (2007 Toyota Corolla) and I love it! The price makes it even more attractive. I'm located 40 miles NE of SF and 60 SW of Sacramento, so I get the HD stations from both SF and Sacramento. As you might guess, they fade in and out, but when your are locked on a good HD station, it's great. The HD stations are really a cool feature that I absolutely love. The Bluetooth works perfectly. Regardless of which end you are on, connection and clarity are fabulous. No problems whatsoever. Connection to the iPod is a piece of cake and now there is no need for us to carry any CD's when driving. Installation took about an hour - and my only problem was getting the console apart. The "snaps" were very difficult to pry loose. I recommend the plastic automotive pry tools. I also soldered & heat-shrinked the wires. It really was a snap to install. BTW - I have no trouble reading what's written on the faceplate, day or night. However, the letters are more faint during daylight hours - certainly not a deal-breaker at all. For the money, you can't go wrong with this unit!

I bought the Dual to gain HD radio. The other features were also an added benefit. Although the unit functioned properly, I was disapointed with the "feel" of the controls and more importantly the sound quality of the unit. Also, there were some oddities that I call poor design. When you change HD channels, the info doesn't show up unless you press the info button(the metadata doesn't scroll either). Doesn't make any sense........I previously had an Alpine and expect great sonics. So I purchased the Kenwood HD radio and am very happy with the unit. Much, much better, although more expensive. Easy to install. Sounds great. Love the HD radio. I get three feeds from our one local NPR station, and the reception is perfect all around town. I was also surprised to find WWOZ also broadcasts in HD with greatly improved sound quality. I've tried the bluetooth with three different phones and they all are loud and clear on both ends. Unfortunately the bluetooth does not import the address book and dialing from the head unit is limited recent received, sent and missed calls. You'll have to pull over and dial your phone to call out on other numbers or use the remote. I have not tried the USB yet. The only drawback, as others have noted: the display is virtually unreadable in the daylight. This is especially problematic when receiving phone calls and dialing out from the head unit. But it's still a great value considering all the features.

great stereo for me personally at least. works for what i need and no problems. a lot of reviews say the bluetooth is iffy, i havent found that. i can communicate just fine with it, without major issues. never listen to the radio, and dont care about the extra radio features. but i did test it out, and it seems to get stations in very clearly, more so than my factory stereo. i also dont own any cds (all vinyl and mp3s), but i tested the cd player just in case and it worked great. every affordable stereos ipod control features are clunky, from what ive found, and seem to be set up in completely baffling ways. this deck has shuffle/random which was the main selling point for me, as i like using my ipod as my personal radio. most stereos dont have that feature. i use my car stereo solely for ipod listening and went through 3 other stereos, and returned each one after getting so frustrated with its user interface. the matrix display is a little weak and behind the times, but does the job at least. having the usb cable stick out the front is annoying, but once again does the job, and better than the other stereos i tried. the buttons are easy to push for me, the faceplate is easy to get on and off, and basic functions/menu options are easy to get to and change. and even with a couple of "i wish this was better" things, i havent found anything with it that frustrates me or completely annoys me.

This is a feature-packed unit with a small price tag...SO: a) LCD visibility - if your car/truck has the radio at a vertical angle-- you'll have problems seeing the display in the sunlight. If you look straight at the lcd from it's perpendicular plane- you can see it well. In my 04 Honda Civic that has a slight positive angle... can't see it at all. At night it's fine though. b) My bluetooth works fine... However- my phone has the ability to stream media- so it always reads as AV MODE -- until a call comes through. I had problems connecting the bluetooth at first- it wouldn't run calls thru the radio -- I reset my phone and it worked fine. c) The EQ options sound OK...but it'd be nice if it had a better custom EQ. d) The HD radio works fine if you are in an area with HD signal. e) I'm not a fan of the front USB/Aux input for ipod...especially since you have to use their proprietary cable f) The "cheap" buttons are what you expect on a $200 radio. Though sometimes mine doesn't seem to always "get" my first attempt at clicking (I tend to move quickly thru menus) I think this is a GREAT radio for the money, but I wish I could read the screen better. The front USB and other "issues" I don't really mind as much - but I can barely read the screen!

This unit has a lot going for it but also has some big problems. Just the fact that it has an HD radio built in makes it worth the money. The HD radio works great for me. I see that others have problems with reception but I have had none. The front jacks for the ipod are great. The unit has amazing power and clarity (with a few tweeks to the bass and treble). The volume level goes up to 46 but I can rarely listen to it with the level over 15 without hurting my ears. The biggest problem with it is the display, which others have commented on. It is so bad that you can basically only see it at night. The ipod controls are difficult to use and if you use the usb port there is a lot of crackling and static when playing your ipod, but you can't hear it when music is playing. I usually just use the aux jack. All in all I would say that you get a good amount of features for the money, but lacks the refinement most people look for in a stereo. Crutchfield's directions for installation were great. This is my second stereo that I have installed by myself and I did it in 2 hours (in a difficult to install car!).

This is a great deal for the options you get with it. Putting together a JVC system will all of these together will run you over $400, twice the cost of this Dual unite. Some cons: 1-The display is not very clear in daylight. It is adequate at night time. 2-The bluetooth take a while to pick up an incoming call (you would have to pretend you hear the caller because some people will hang up and try to call you again). However, when making a call you will be fine. 3-The buttons are very small and not very user friendly. I have big fingers and at times, do press the wrong button. 4-I don't like the fact that you have to connect two cables to run your iPhone. You have to connect the one end to the bottom of your iPhone and the other end has two connections: one usb and one aux. They both have to be in the receiver to it to work. I bet this cable if lost is not cheap or easy to find. Also, why is this cable in white? Wouldn't it look nicer and more polished if it was black? All in all I am happy with this purchase.

I was really kind of unsure when ordering this, I had seen some mixed reviews online but decided that for the money I would give it a shot. I have dealt with Crutchfield before so I knew if I had any issues they would help me work through them. I got the package and it took me about 20 minutes to crimp all the wires from this unit to the vehicle harness Crutchfield supplied. Once I had done that, removing the old radio, connecting the wires and snapping this into place was a snap. Even with the factory speakers this radio sounds great and makes a world of difference in sound quality over the factory unit. The bluetooth works OK for what I wanted it for. I was a little disappointed that with my iPhone 3G that the calling number does not show up on the display when the phone rings. I have never been exposed to the HD radio before so I am very impressed with that feature. I plugged in my iPod Nano and checked out the controls - they work, but I just wish the cables weren't located so close to the station preset buttons. The HD tagging feature is pretty neat too. All in all I am very satisfied. If you want a lot of high-end features and good sound quality at a reasonable price, this unit is for you.

Installation was simple - the Crutchfield documentation and wiring harness made the job a snap. The only fine whine I have is that the DIN box is rather flimsy and does not do a really good job of holding the unit firmly. Not a bad thing unless riding over washboard roads. As for sound and operation, no problems on AM, FM, HD and CD - haven't tried the other modes yet. It seems that reception is better than the original 2001 factory audio. would wish for larger buttons etc, but that is a problem w/ DIN E sized units and many functions. Love the HD FM - finally can get the secondary channels they've been touting - It works well enough in our area.

This product is really good, others have said the display is hard to read in the daylight, it is true, but its not really that bad, you can still tell what it says. I like the HD radio, it works really well and picks up a signal quickly, only thing is, in the area I'm at, one of my favorite radio stations HD signal is apparently weak, and it switches over from HD to standard frequently, which can get slightly annoying because the sound level rises or falls and occasionally there is a slight echo after it switches back to standard. The iPod connectivity cord doesn't work that well for me, but i have an iPhone 3G so i was doubtful it would work at all, it connects, and charges the phone, but it doesn't output music through the included adapter. One other thing, the cable i bought with it, an amplifier integration kit, did not fit my vehicle, i have a ford explorer Eddie Bauer edition, and the cable they sent did not connect properly, so i had to get it professionally installed which cost about 50 dollars, but when I called customer support they were very helpful (spoke English even) and immediately sent me a return label, i was surprised by the efficiency and time, it only took about three minutes, which is saying something cause usually, in my experience, customer support teams are terrible.

I only owned the Dual XHD7714 for a few days before I decided to exchange if for the soon to be released Pioneer DEH-P6100BT. My main reasons for selecting the XHD7714 was for Bluetooth operation through my Motorola Razor and a front USB connection to play my mp3 files, the HD Radio was an added plus. The first thing that I noticed that the XDH7714 seem to be flimsy (the front panel moves as buttons are being pushed). This may be due in part that the front panel folds down and is removable. My major show stopper was that fact that the Bluetooth does not permit voice dialing or is there an option to store any phone numbers (other than redialing previously entered numbers). The manual indicates that calls must be initiated by either dialing the number on the supplied remote or by using the cell phone. (So much for hands-fee operation.) I wanted to at leased have the functionality of my external Parrot device which supports voice dialing. The other things that I noticed are that the scrolling display is difficult to read because the characters tend to flash as they are being displayed. The HD radio did work but occasionally faded or dropped out. The sound was much improved using the stock speakers by leaving the XHD7714 on LOUD mode. It looks and sounds good so I give this receiver two stars.

The installation was a breeze, it will take some time to learn all of the tweaks and settings of the unit, I like the display in general, the dot matrix display can be adjusted but the "blue" display lighting around the keys cannot be, it's a little bright at night, that's the only downfall I have come across concerning the display, I like the fact that it has bluetooth capability built in, and remember the radio only displays calls that were made through the unit, nothing prior to the installlation of the Radio will be displayed, The built in bluetooth has good clarity and sound through your speakers when on a call, your bluetooth capable phone will connect automatically when you turn on the radio, (after initial setup) the radio has more than enough features for the price and you will stay busy learning them initially, in general I am very satisfied with the operation of the unit including CD, Bluetooth, USB and FM, some HD stations switch between analog and digital, the only thing you will notice about that is the clarity, If you live near a metropolitan area you will naturally have better reception. There is a considerable amount of HD stations broadcasting currently and it will only get better as time goes on. So if you want a decent Radio for a decent price then buy this one! If you want the features of a $400.00 unit then buy one! If not then expect some things to not be flawless with this unit!

I initially selected this unit because it had an impressive array of features for this price. The install went very easily, but after a week of use I was not happy with the product for a few reasons. As some others have mentioned, the buttons have a lot of play, feel very plastic-y, and nothing seems very tight. It just has a "cheap" feel to it - but I guess you get what you pay for. The integrated Bluetooth paired easily with my iPhone, but the microphone was too far away and too weak to make it usable at all. No one could ever hear me. The built-in HD tuner was exciting, as it was my first experience with digital radio. Unfortunately I don't think HD radio is ready yet. As the HD signal weakens it drops back to analog and there can be a minute time shift causing what sounds like a skip. If you are in a borderline area for a station this happens constantly and is VERY annoying. I eventually turned of the digital tuning and went back to all analog. This is not the fault of this unit however. The iPod functionality worked fine, although the included connector was very stiff and tended to wiggle loose and drop the connection. The need for both the USB and mini-plug input mean you have to use the Dual brand cable and cant use a better one of your own. I am exchanging it for the Alpine iDA-X100. The iPod connection was the most important part so I would rather have higher overall quality without the extra bells and whistles.

Yes, the display is a little difficult to see in the daylight, but it was about the same as the stock radio. All features worked as advertised. Pretty easy to install, thanks to Crutchfield. The two complaint I have are...the iPod connection has a little static in the sound. Annoying on quiet songs but not noticeable on more uptempo songs. The USB feature works fine, but I don't care much for its layout of playing songs. However, all in all I am very pleased with it. The iPod issue is the only real potential deal breaker, everything else I was very pleased with. You won't find another stereo at this price with all these features. I would buy it again.

The HD keeps switching back and forth between analog and HD. I was expecting the bluetooth to be similar to my former Parrot 3100. My first disappointment was that I couldn't use my phone's voice dialing features, not voice recognition or voice tags. The radio is suppose to be able to use the call log for making calls. The last 5 received, missed, or made calls. But it seems that it doesn't use the phone's call log but it's own. So if you didn't receive the call in the car, it doesn't know about it. It also doesn't ignore duplicate calls. So if the last 5 calls are all the same person, that is what you see not 5 different calls. The display is not very bright either. So far it's been cloudy here and the display is visible but one we get sunshine I'm sure the display will disappear. I plugged in my 120GB Creative Labs USB Jukebox with about 10,000 songs. It was cataloging it but after 20 minutes I gave up. WMA CD played flawlessly.

2003 VW GTI Installation went pretty smooth, as far as the radio was concerned. However, I did have trouble with the power antenna adapter that Crutchfield included with there installation kit (How about more complete directions on that next time Crutchfield). One problem that I have with this stereo and my car is that the large knob on the front blocks the VW drop down cup holder, making it useless. Pros-Blue tooth works well with my G1 phone. After some tweeking, sounds better than my old Monsoon stereo. HD sounds pretty good. Individual volume setting for different sources is great. Cons-A 16GB usb stick full of music takes about 30 seconds of "reading" before it plays the music. Worst yet, if you are listening to the usb, then switch modes, then come back to usb, it has to read all of the files again before playing. I haven't tried the CD player yet.

I had been looking at new car stereos and I asked for a new Stereo for my Birthday that had Bluetooth built in. I got the Dual XHD 7714. Dont know who my girlfriend bought it from but Im glad she bought it. This was one of the car stereos a local shop told me was "bottom line". I have to disagree. I installed it along with 4 Infinity 6022i speakers into a 2005 Dodge Dakota. The stereos features are so simple and work so good that I cant beleive I was told it was a bottom of the line deck. The HD is awesome and the bluetooth works great. There are still some bluetooth things I need to learn with it but its pretty straight forward. Pair your phone, it rings, it mutes the stereo, you answer by a button push and you drive and talk. My only complaint comes from the install kit I bought to replace the factory unit. Since the volume knob on the radio is big and in the middle of the face, it hits the adaptor on the install kit and wont let the face open completly to insert a cd. Its not that big of deal though because I took my collection of cds, put them on a 4 gig USB drive and simply plug the drive into the front of the stereo. Works better than a cd changer.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this radio after reviewing several others and reviewing those that had the options I wanted (HD radio, bluetooth, AUX input). It works as advertised, and I'm quite happy with it. I've noted comments about the "cheap" feel of the control panel, and it does feel "plastic". But, for a $200 product with the features it has I'm not complaining. Also cited is the tendency of HD AM radio stations to drop in and out, but that is a function of the transmitted HD signal and not this product; all HD radios do that. The ipod controller doesn't work well with my iphone, it does connect but the menus are not easily managed. Frankly it's much easier to just plug the iphone into the AUX input and manage the song/playlist selection with the iphone. I'm very satisfied with the bluetooth operation with my iphone, it set up easily and connects flawlessly everytime I start the car. This way I can use my phone with the hands-free option, it's much easier to hear, and callers have no problems hearing me. This option completely eliminates the problem of managing the phone while I drive and I can concentrate on actually driving the vehicle. The sound quality is great... I am using the OEM speakers in my car and they are fine. Installation was completely simple using the included step-by-step instructions. I briefly considered purchasing the professional installation but this was way too simple, anyone could do it. Thanks, Crutchfield, this is a great product!!

Not very impressed, disappointed actually. All the features are there as advertised, but quite a few quirks. 1. No display, not even the clock when the unit is off. 2. Bluetooth delays 4 seconds or so when answering, leaving the caller wondering if there was a pickup. 3. Display difficult to read during the daytime. (even with the contrast on high, which is default) 4. Scanning HD stations is painfully slow. 5. Changing functions between Radio, Aux, CD etc very slow. 6. I don't prefer the cheap plastic feel of the center knob 7. Display is dated dot-matrix. If you are patient and have a high tolerance for frustation, you will enjoy the features of this all-in-one HD unit.

I got this unit to replace the OEM radio in a 10 year old vehicle specifically for HD and Bluetooth. It performs well for these functions, with some caveats. This unit's ability to pull in radio signals is noticably less than the OEM radio. Instead of getting AM news radio with a little fuzz around the edges, the signal drops out completely for half seconds at a time. Very irritating, and disappointing. I thought HD would make things better, but it has made things worse. It can only lock onto the HD portion of a station when I have a perfectly clear signal, such as on a mountain ridge. Down in the valley, forget it. This was not a problem for the OEM radio. I was surprised to find that the display does not dim when the headlights are turned on. Perhaps this is an installer error? The display is hard to read in daylight (at brightest setting), but also too bright at night. The time format of the clock display is bizarre. AM 10:30 looks more like an AM frequency than a clock. There are no options to change the clock display format. AM/PM are pretty much overkill in a car - whether its morning or night should be pretty obvious just by looking out the window! Don't lose the user manual, because you'll never figure out how to activate or navigate the settings using the unit alone!

Crutchfield was great. I was able to connect this up and have it running in about an hour. That is amazing. I configured the bluetooth and the HD radio works fine. I was also able to get the steering wheel controls working. So, what is dangerous? The display on this unit is not adequate. I checked and made sure it was on the highest setting and then I plugged my USB stick into the radio and it started to play as expected. It was sunny outside and I found that I couldn't read the display at all. Pretty much useless. At night, all is well. So, if you want a value, HD radio, BT plus IPOD for this price, then this is for you. You just have to be willing to run off the road while trying to read the display during the day but is great for those driving to work and back on third shift. I'm sending it back. BTW: Crutchfield is great about understanding this problem and we are swapping the unit as I speak to a little nicer unit with fewer features. :(

I must start this review by saying that I think I had a defective radio. The sound would just cut out for no reason. The display would operate as if music were playing, but no sound. I will not let this issue affect my review as I think it was just bad luck. Pros: Radio sounded clear USB worked great AUX input worked fine, though the sound dropped by about 10 decibles every time I switched to my XM Roady XT. I think it is just a problem with the way the Roady XT functions through and AUX input Bluetooth worked fine. I had to speak a bit louder than normal, but the person on the other end could hear me (I did not receive any calls) Cons: I found the HD/Analog cut in/out to be annoying. I am in Central NJ, so I guess I am on the fringe of NY reception. While I thought the layout of the buttons were nice, the plastic button click felt cheap. As others have stated, the display is impossible to read in the daylight when the sun is on/near the unit When the text scrolls to give MP3 song information, it is tough to read as the display can't keep up with speed of the scrolling. Once the scrolling stops, you can read it just fine I think the Dual XHD-7714 is a fine radio. While I didn't factor in the sound issue I had to my actual review, the sound issue combined with the "unknown" Dual brand led me to return mine. I bought a Kenwood Excelon X692. I am MUCH happier with it. If you don't mind the cons I listed above, by all means give this radio a try.

Installed this unit last weekend. Took about 2 hours as I needed to modify the housing that came with the unit. Lots of features! As others have mentioned, during the day the display is very dim. After dark, it really shows up nicely with blue highlights around the various buttons. As I live on the outskirts of San Francisco, the HD radio signal is not strong enough to give a steady read, resulting in toggling back and forth between the digital and analog signal. If your radio station has more than one HD selection, be aware that the second HD selection (which does not have an analogous analog channel) will cut out entirely when it doesn't receive a strong enough signal. So I just leave it on the first HD channel. My Ipod sounds terrific and I look forward to using it on long trips. So far I am impressed by the unit, save for the dim display.

Great unit works as advertised, with the following 2 problems. 1. The LCD screen must be viewed from above, otherwise it is not readable. In my 2003 Civic I have to lean way forward and have my head touching the ceiling to see the LCD. I am considering making custom mount to change the angle it sits in the dash. 2. iPod control cable adds digital noise and artifacts. iPod sounds great when using a standard phono cable and aux in, usb stick sounds perfect. But when you add the control cable, yuck! I love the price, the sound quality(when not using control cable), and the Bluetooth works wonderfully with my phone.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off for the bad - it is very difficult to see the display during the daytime, even with illumination set to "high." Its funny because some of the competing units have reviews stating the opposite - that the display is too bright and distracting when driving at night. Sounds like this is a difficult feature to get just right. Next frustrating factor is that the USB and Aux inputs are not really separate inputs, at least with regards to having an iPod plugged in. Unfortunately when you connect the iPod via the included cable, there is also a connection to make to the 3.5mm aux input, so i basically have to unplug my satellite radio to plug in my iPod. Finally I would say that the overall quality appears somewhat suspect although i have nothing to base that on other than the appearance and tactile feel of the unit. Just looks and feels slightly cheap. None of these "cons" are sufficient to overcome the two main pros - features and price. There simply isn't anything out there that offers all of these features at anywhere near the price point of this unit. All of the features work as advertised, and the sound quality is good. I haven't replaced the factory speakers yet so it could be great - just won't know until i get better speakers in place. Gave it 3 stars for the cons stated above. However is price is a strong driver for you and the features are important this could easily be a 5 star unit.

I just received this unit today, installing it was somewhat of a pain because I have the "premium" stereo in my car and it was therefore not aftermarket friendly. As soon as I got it working, I was picking up all kind of cool HD stations. I have to say, the difference in sound quality of hd to analog is not spectacular but I guess my expectations were too high. After playing with the radio for a while, I tried out the usb flash drive. It took about 2 min for the drive to load before it started to play. Lastly, I paired my phone to the unit and made a test call. I did have to talk louder than normal for the other party to hear me clearly but that's understandable since the mic is not next to the mouth but a few feet away. I have to point out that the lcd display is not as visible in daylight as average stereos. Also, scrolling characters could be better(more legible). Having said that, I feel that these shortcomings are not enough of a reason to exchange the unit for something better because at this time and price there simply isn't anything with these features. I recommend it.

This is a great unit, with all the bells and whistles one needs. It is just strange that the designer apparently never sat in a car. The information on the LCD display is almost invisible from the driver's seat. What good is the radio, bluetooth, USB, and other extras if you can't even tell what time it is, and what station are you listening to? This is no reflection on Crutchfield and their customer service department, eventhough I think one of the "advisors" should have noticed this shortcoming.

The Dual brand name did not give me much confidence since they are noted only as a low-mid range items. But I must say it was all the features that come with this unit cause me to take a chance: HD Radio MP3/WMA cd playback USB connection on faceplate AUX (mini plug-in) for Ipod or other MP3 players on face plate Once installed the real magic happened. You will need to read the manual to work all of the settings and be able to fine tune this HU to your taste. The source level is far best the best kept secret on the unit and allows you to balance out the sound from all your sources seprately. In closing if you can find another HU that gives you all these features at this price, buy it!

I rated this radio 3 stars out of 5 because of two areas: 1. The unit really heats up CDs so much that it is almost hot to the touch. I can smell the aroma of plastic from the CD after removing it out of the unit!! I am concern that the heat is going to ruin a CD one of these days. Number 2. is the LCD display, difficult to see in the day light. This is the only radio I have found so far that has both Blue Tooth and HD radio built in. I was mainly interested in these functions. All the other features are just icing on the cake! This radio is packed with many USEFUL features! Installed radio into a 2004 Ford F-150 Super Cab and replaced the front and back factory speakers with Polk Audio db 571 speakers also from Crutchfield. The quality of the sound that comes out of the radio with those speakers is outstanding! Radio works well with my cell Phone, Motorola Razer. Pairing was easy and sound quality on my end was excellent and the other end was very good. Thanks to Crutchfield for not only the free radio mounting kit for my truck but also the great instructions on how to take of the panels off to get to the speakers and radio! They were excellent instructions! I still have a few other features to try out but I have really enjoyed what I have heard so far and so I highly recommend this radio, Dual XHD7714 to everyone, yes even though I gave a rating of 3 out of 5.

As others have pointed out, this deck packs an impressive set of features that are either add-ons or unavailable on other sets, especially considering its price. Almost too good to be true -- and it is. Pros: ===== - Nice control layout. In particular I like the bluetooth connect/off-hook and disconnect/on-hook button positions and functionality, and that the main control knob is not overloaded with various ways to turn, push, slide, etc. Cons: ===== - No support for AAC media (CD, USB drive). This means you cannot play media recorded with iTunes or bought through the iTunes music store. - Significant background noise/humming when streaming bluetooth audio (A2DP) - Bluetooth handsfree quality is so-so. The other party has trouble hearing me. - Whenever it connects to my phone (a Nokia N95 8GB), invariably it immediately disconnects. A second push on the "Connect" button is needed. Also defeats the purpose of the auto-connect feature. - As with bluetooth kits from Parrot (and thus Kenwood), there is a delay after audio streaming (A2DP) starts until sound comes through; this is an issue if you (like me) use your phone's GPS for voice guidance.

After the factory radio in my 2003 Acura TL burned out, I had to buy an aftermarket radio. I had considered getting a Pioneer but got this radio since it was one of few stereos labeled to fit my vehicle. I was also looking for an HD radio. I was impressed when I saw this radio because it had the HD built right in (most require an add-on to get the HD), had built-in Bluetooth (most that have it require an add-on adapter), and had a USB port where I could play music directly from my flash drive. I was also impressed at the FM tuner sensitivity figure given on the specs page of the manual. This has been an "OK" radio. First of all, the analog tuner sensitivity is subpar. I particularly have problems close to radio towers where I hear several stations on top of the one I was listening to. I had not had that with the factory radio. However, the HD tuner is stronger than the JVC portable HD unit I had been previously using with the factory stereo. I was also told that the factory Bose speakers would work with this unit. They sound terrible due to the built-in amplifer and 50 watt peak output from the radio, so now I'm buying new speakers from Crutchfield. The middle button on my steering wheel control used to change the station; now it changes the source. I've also had problems with the face display malfunctioning on a few occasions. In one case, it reset all of my tone settings.

I know alllll the history about Dual products being low quality or whatever but i dont think the 7714 follows that line (maybe they're tryna revamp their name?). I had a little frustration getting it hooked up in my 1998 Camry LE, but thats only b/c i didn realize that my car had a factory external amp. Once i got the right connectors, the hook up was simple. The sound is great. Make sure you turn on the "Loud" function first though. I have 4 aftermarket pioneer speakers(240 watt i believe). The sound is really great (keep in mind i have an amp, but i think it would be pretty good w/o it). I love the extra HD stations (and quality), the bluetooth connectivity with my phone is great, ipod connector is great (my gf has one so i tried hers), haven't tried a flash drive with it yet but im hoping i can jus use one of my flash drives as a ppermanent "in car music source" and jus update the songs. If that works out, i won't really need to bring my mp3 to my car! The one thing i dont like is the remote. Its more or less inoperable at night b/c there is no light on it. All in all great product and i def recommend.

Only one problem, the initial unit we received proved to be defective. After the unit got hot (about an hour), it started to malfunction and become "locked up." But Crutchfield's excellent customer service sent a replacement right away, and the new unit is working perfectly. Now I want one for my car, and guess what? I bought this stereo for one main reason, it was the only one that played MP3 CDs, bluetooth, and AUX/USB ports in the front. I had never heard the brand before, but after reading several reviews it put me at ease. Pros: Installation was incredibly easy with Crutchfields installation kit and instructions. Out of the box, sound is sub par, but after adjusting the bass/treble, source gain and loudness the quality really amazed me even with stock speakers. Dual line display makes for easy viewing of what's playing. Lots of menu items to customize options Obviously all the inputs make for great options. I'm excited to have the USB ILO making MP3 cds every time new music comes out. Cons: The only downfall I can find is browsing MP3s on a CD or USB drive. You need to enter a "search mode" to use the volume wheel to browse tracks, then exit search mode to play. This is very annoying! The alternative is to click track up/down once for each song. Browsing a USB drive with several hundred files in this manner would not be an option. In my opinion they should have made the volume wheel default to track browsing and the track up/down buttons should be volume. It's browsing MP3s alone that it only got 4/5 stars. My old stereo had both a volume and track select knob which was incredibly nice. Had I not downgraded from that feature I'm sure I would have given this 5 stars.

Setup of everything was easy and straight forward. The first thing I noticed was that the FM reception kept fading in and out. The Bluetooth worked excellent with my Samsung Rant and the Ipod controls were simple to use. The individual gain settings for each mode is also very nice. Pros: 1. Packed full of features. 2. Low price. 3. All features basically work with minimal setup. 4. Easy to use. 5. Great Bluetooth phone clarity. Cons: 1. Terrible analog FM reception. 2. HD tuner could not stay locked on a station. 3. White illuminated faceplate is impossible to see in the daytime. 4. Unit seems to run extremely hot. Overall, I guess you get what you pay for. To get this many features for such a low price, my expectations weren't the highest. I mainly listen to FM radio, so the terrible reception was a major issue for me. I have a 50k watt radio station less than 20 miles from my house and the reception was still terrible. With the tuner set on digital it would constantly switch back from analog to digital which was very annoying. I will be returning this unit and going for something that hopefully has a better tuner. If the tuner was better, I would have given it a rating of 5. Crutchfield customer service is the best!

I looked at many units before buying the Dual XHD. Other units forced you to add various modules. (HD radio, IPod control, Bluetooth, etc.). This unit had it all built in. My son and I installed this unit in his 2005 Mazda 6. Installation of the Dual XHD was a snap, but we had to install a Metra unit for the dash and it was a much harder installation. We also installed the PAC SWI PS steering wheel module with this unit to maintain steering wheel control, and that also works well. The unit worked great and the sound was very good (after adjusting eq. controls). My son had the bluetooth working before I even had the tools put away and it works great. We've also tried the unit with his IPod (the IPod control is what he likes the most about the Dual). IPod tagging is also nice if you find a song you want to download later. The HD radio is nice, but I can't hear that much difference with my poor hearing from standard radio. We haven't had a chance to test playing music from a flash drive, but it is nice to have that option. The only negatives so far is that with the Metra kit the faceplate cannot come down completely when opened to put in or take out a CD. The display is also a little hard to see in daylight, and it would have been nice if they had offered a choice of red or blue as the back light as some other units do. This is one "Do It All" unit that actually lives up to expectations. I can give it a high recommendation.

Install was a snap in my 96 Bronco. Bluetooth paired with my sony ericsson with no problems. Callers say they hear my just fine on the built in mic. The music stream from my phone works fine (not the sound quality of HD radio but decent). Two things I wish it had.....voice activated dialing and phone book...it has neither. But for the money it has all the music options. HD radio is fantastic. Thought about buying an Ipod...but instead I think I will opt for the USB powered hard drive and carry all my music in my truck. Have not tried the aux yet but plan to hook my sirius plug and play to it. If you have been considering this HU....GO FOR IT!!

Very happy with this purchase so far.....

Troy from Dallas, TX on 12/28/2008

So far, I absolutely love my new XHD7714 (got it for Christmas). All of the features I wanted/needed this deck for work great. (I will also update this review if I can with any problems I end up having.) 1. HD radio, sounds great, it does sound funny when it goes back and forth from analog reception to digital, it doesn't happen very often and I knew that it would do that before I bought the deck and is the reason I gave a 4 star review instead of 5. Probably not fair of me, but oh well. 2. Bluetooth hands free phone operation, recognized my phone (blackjack) easily and sounds excellent on both ends, haven't worked with it much yet but even the music streaming from my phone sounds good. What is really cool though is that it automatically recognizes my phone whenever I get in my truck so that it is ready to answer phone calls through the stereo and I don't have to do anything, LOL. 3. Subwoofer preout with level control, my truck already had an aftermarket stereo in it when I bought it used and they were not very savvy in there sub amp choice, this deck completely changed the sound of my stereo without changing the amp. Just flatten the tones and adjust bass to music, excellent. 4. almost forgot the USB thumb drive input, haven't messed with it much yet but the sound quality is great, you just plug it in and it switches to usb and starts playing.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was curious about HD radio, and I needed to replace the receiver in my older Bronco, so when I saw this unit with all these features, I just had to give it a try. The Crutchfield extras and instructions were perfect, and installation was a breeze. In my area there many HD stations. The reception and sound quality are much better than I expected. All of the other feature work very nicely, flash drive, burned CD's, Bluetooth, and Aux input from my IPOD. This is a great unit for the money.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this receiver for my 2002 Honda Odyssey minivan. I also ordered an install card with it (glad I did -- the installer told me that it was a little more difficult than typical with this model Honda). It took the pro installers about 90 minutes to install, and I've only had it in for 3 days so far, but I'm VERY pleased overall. The good: -- I was pleased with the prices and as usual, Crutchfield had great customer service during the order. -- GREAT sound... very impressive on all input sources -- Controls fairly easy to understand -- The Bluetooth feature worked flawlessly and connected to my LG phone right away. I can play the music I have on my phone via bluetooth through the receiver. -- The usb feature is VERY nice... my non technical wife figured it out immediately and loves it. -- The ability to increase gain on a "by source" basis is quite nice... I noticed the Bluetooth and AUX inputs seemed a little quiet initially, but the adjustment took care of this. The not as good: -- The iPod control is nice in that it connects easily, allows control via the receiver and charges the iPod. But the select button cycling is not very intuitive and seems a little touchy... easy to go past a song. -- The remote uses small print and no backlight, making it almost impossible to use at night

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Don't go by the DUAL name brand...it sounds and performs equal if not better than units costing twice as much. Believe me, once i heard this thing it totally transformed my idea about DUAL products. Its a masterpiece. So many features jam packed into this tiny unit, its hard to begin with. Blue tooth (Call quality awesome, no static, no break in signals and no problem pairing it with my phone! Sweet), HD radio (So clear you would think you are listening to a CD), I POD interface and tagging (Simply great, no problems there, full control of I POD from the face plate or remote! Mind boggling), AUX and USB (Plain, simple and straight forward interface, sounds great either way!), and of course it plays all kinds of format burned on to your CD's so you are covered with almost every format out there to utilize with this unit. The stereo sounds better than my stock and it actually enhanced the sound fidelity of my premium system (VW Passat Monsoon system). Better bass, treble and mid range is what I'm listening now. Once again for all you people out there looking for a replacement HU, my sincere suggestion, try this unit for once and i guarantee that you wont regret a bit. This unit performs and delivers what it promises and then some more, all this at a relatively lower price.

Man oh man, I love this thing. Great sound, great features, low price for all that you get! The iTunes tagging is awesome and built-in bluetooth works without a hitch! You only ever have to put the faceplate down to insert or remove a CD; there is nothing else back there but that. Everything else is on the faceplate itself. GREAT!! I had bought the XDH7720 but didn't like it (and it broke), so this was my replacement. I hope they get more in soon so you guys can buy this one!! Highly recommended!!

As of Dec 12th 2008, this is the only radio on the market that has built-in bluetooth AND hd radio AND usb/ipod port. All the features work as expected. That was a relief considering that the brand DUAL is associated with 'inexpensive' radios. When I first powered it on it sounded like a cheap radio. But after turning on the loudness function and cranking up the bass and treble and source-gain... bam!! It sounds like a 200watt radio. This radio has other neat features that happily surprised me. Each source (CD/radio/USB/bluetooth) has its own separate adjustments. Fantastic!! Another nice surprise was the ease of use of the USB port. The port takes a while to read all the song titles in the flash drive, but once it read all 600+ songs, switching between folders and songs is a snap. The USB functionallity is what I will be using all the time, so this radio is perfect for me. You have a lot of MP3s in your computer? Easy, copy the songs into a thumb drive (ie a 2gb), organize the files into folders anyway you want, then plug the thumb drive into this radio. That's it. Better than CD quality. The only down I found with this radio is the built-in microphone for the bluetooth. The listener on the other end tells me that there is a low humming noise when I talk. It's okay, if the noise is too bad, this radio can roll the call back to the cell phone at the touch of a button. Overall, I give this radio five stars.

Okay, wondering whether this is a good buy or not? Well stop shopping around already. This is one of the best buy that I've ever done. This car receiver has everything you may need and much more. Pros: BLUE TOOTH, CD, USB, IPOD & IPHONE; all preloaded in this small package. All the control was easily and simply design. The buttons were big and easy to press as well. Installation was a walk in the park. If I can do it, you can too. It also acts as a car alarm (red blinking light) once you detach the face to store it. Also, there was a HUGE improvement in the sound quality of my music as well (comparing to my old JVC receiver). Every channel seem like its on HD, not just the HD channels. Cons: It was hard to put the face back on once you take it off, especially in my del sol car. However I think its one of those thing that you will get use to it and shouldn't be an issue in about a week of use. Other Thoughts: I was much like you when I was looking for a replacement for my old receiver, until i stumble upon this one. It has everything I needed and nothing I didn't. If these features and prices interest you, please don't hesitate to make the purchase.

    Display Features

Fold-Down Detachable Face: The headunit features a manual fold-down, detachable faceplate and comes supplied with a hard plastic carrying case.

Display Priority: You can set the unit to a source display or clock display priority. When set to source display priority, the radio tuner frequency, CD track/elapsed time, selected MP3/WMA information (track name, directory name, title, artist, or album), or Aux display will be displayed. The display priority is easily changed with the Display button.

Clock Display: Normally, the clock display illuminates only when the unit is on. You can program it so the clock is displayed when the ignition key is turned on and the unit is off.

Illumination Dimmer: The headunit's display features three illumination settings. You can choose from Low, Med, or High.

    Audio Section

    CEA-2006 Compliant Amplifier: The Dual XHD7714 features a CEA-2006 Compliant rated amplifier that offers 17 watts RMS x 4 channels in 4 ohms at 1% THD+N with a Signal-To-Noise Ratio of 80dBA.

3 Sets of Preamp Outputs: The Dual XHD7714 features three sets of preamp outputs (Front, Rear, and Subwoofer). The Front and Rear preamp outputs allow you to fade your music front to rear and balance the sound left to right. The Subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The Subwoofer preamp output offers separate volume control from 0-12 to enhance the sound of your connected amplifier and subwoofer without effecting the rest of your car audio speaker system.

Preset EQ Curves: You can choose from six preset curves: Flat, Pop, Jazz, Classic, Beat, and Rock. Any adjustment to the bass or treble settings automatically cancels the current EQ curve.

Bass And Treble: The headunit's Bass and Treble can be independently adjusted from -6 to +6 dB.

Loudness Curve: You can activate this feature to enhance the bass and treble frequencies when listening to music at low volumes.

Source Audio Memory: Individual bass and treble settings are retained in memory for AM, FM, CD, USB, and AUX modes. This allows you to save the Bass and Treble settings separately for each mode.

Source Volume Level: The source volume level control allows a gain adjustment for each audio source (AM, FM, CD, AUX, USB and Bluetooth). You can set the source volume level (-6 to +6) for each mode, depending on the relative volume of each audio source.

Turn-on Volume: You can preset the unit's volume when it is powered on. Each time the unit is turned on, the volume is reset to the preset level regardless of the volume level when the unit was last turned off.

Beep Confirmation: You can enable or disable beep confirmation for the headunit's control buttons.

    Radio Functions

Built-In HD Tuner: In addition to the unit's standard analog AM/FM tuner, the headunit features a built-in HD AM/FM tuner. With the built-in HD Radio tuner, you can receive digital AM/FM broadcasts from local stations where available. This technology will significantly improve audio quality and reception, as well as include information such as artist name and song titles or traffic news, viewable on the receiver's display. HD radio delivers near CD quality sound to FM broadcasts, and FM sound to AM broadcasts. You can store up to 18 FM stations and 12 AM stations, including HD Radio stations. This headunit also supports HD Radio multicasting and allows multicast HD Radio stations to be stored as presets.

Note: Your local stations must be broadcasting HD AM/FM broadcasts to receive HD Radio content. No subscriptions fee needed for HD Radio programming.

HD Seek Mode: In addition to searching through both analog and digital stations, you can search only HD stations by using the headunit's HD Seek Mode. During this mode the headunit will skip over all analog stations and tune to only HD Radio stations.

Automatic Presets: The headunit can automatically store the six strongest stations in the current band selected. Multicast channels are not stored during Auto Preset and must be manually preset.

iTunes Tagging: The iTunes Tagging feature of the XHD7714 allows you to "Tag" songs that are playing on HD Radio station and enables them to be purchase later through iTunes. With the touch of a button the unit will remember the title and artist song information, and then transfer that information to your iPod the next time you connect it to the XHD7714 using the supplied 2-wire cable. The following mode iPods support iTunes Tagging.

    • iPod video (5th gen)
    • iPod nano (3rd/4th/5th gen)
    • iPod classic (80/120/160GB)
