A Video Introduction to Focal Car Audio
From Focal: K2 Power
At Focal, all that matters is music. Focal's sound gurus engage in intensive listening sessions as they design a new line of speakers, making it their mission to create products that deliver uncanny realism, sweeping dynamics, and breathtaking depth. During the hands-on production process, they test every model meticulously to ensure that they meet Focal's exacting standards.
The K2 Power 165 KRX3 6-3/4" component speaker system bears the hallmarks of Focal's "Power Hi-Fi" philosophy. The nimble 6-3/4" woofer, made from Aramid and glass fibers, demonstrates the control needed to reproduce delicate classical passages, yet it'll handle the power needed to drive your bass-heavy music with authority. The sturdy zinc-aluminum alloy basket is non-magnetic so it won't interfere with the speaker's own electronics.
Focal's 2" inverted dome tweeter acts like a little woofer, dispersing the highs in a wide pattern to create an exceptionally natural soundstage. An additional 3" speaker, made from the same composite that's used in the woofer, provides the system with smooth midrange frequencies. An aluminum phase plug improves midrange dispersion so you'll hear clean, up-front vocals. Focal includes a pair of surface-mount pods that allow you to install the midrange driver and tweeter side by side.
The K2 Power crossover uses hand-made components developed by Focal to deliver an ideal blend of the highs, mids, and lows for a dynamic stereo image. You'll find 162 possible combinations of tweeter, midrange, and woofer settings so you can fine tune the sound to your car's environment.
Important Note: Focal strongly recommends using a 4-channel amplifier to drive the 165KRX3 component system — two channels for the woofers and two channels to run the mids and highs. The 165KRX3 crossover can be set up to use a 2-channel amplifier, but it would present a load of less than one ohm per channel which most amps cannot handle safely.
Note: This component speaker set consists of a separate woofer, midrange speaker, and tweeter. Our Car Selector checks to make sure the woofer will fit in your factory location. You'll have to custom install the midrange and tweeter.
Note: Focal describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.
Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.
Beautiful speakers and a good price, excellent service.

Beautiful speakers and a good price, excellent service.
Pros: Best sound ever
Cons: You need work to put this in your doors
These are outstanding speakers. .Crystal clear mids and highs really bring out rhe vocals.
Pros: Mids and highs
Cons: Little pricey
A little disappointed with advertised 4ohm system then I get it it says biamp and possible load of .8ohm if used as single channel instead of biamped..... The crossovers are ridiculously huge and hard to hide, but with all that being said the sound is amazing and will most likely buy a second set. I have a set of 165ve3 polyglass in another car and these well out perform those.
Price was unbeatable! So excited to get them installed! Will update review...
Pros: Price was unbeatable
I have about 48 Hours on these breaking them in on my kitchen table. They have changed sound pretty drastically. (In a good way). I think they are going to tweak out nicely. I want to get about 100 hours on them before I install them and start tuning. I got these "Scratch and Dent" and the only thing I could find that was scratched or dented was the box. I am Very Happy and excited to see what these can do.
Pros: Good Build Quality.
Cons: "Bi-Amp" mode leaves filters in place. If you want to actively cross over between the low and mid you would have to modify the mid section of the x-over to remove the high pass.
I had 1" tweets, 6" mids, 2x12 Fosgate Powers. Tweets and Highs were K2s in front doors and polyglass n rear doors. Had JL 4x450 and 1x1000 amps. Ran dry cell and 1 frd cap on 00 gauge power wire. This system was beyond belief!!! Subs didn't drowned out highs or mids. It was a rock concert in my car, but had a $2000 VW Jetta w $5000 stereo! It was way worth it!!!
I have a 2002 W210 Mercedes E55 AMG I upgraded from Focal 165 V15 components, it was good, but not great, the sound wasn't natural and the tweeters were very harsh even at -3db. **My system consists of FOCAL products only-except the Sub. I have the KRX3 powered by Focal FPS4160 and two High-caps. The sound is absolutely beautiful, I have not heard anything like this before. The highs are very alive, yet very subtle and soft, no matter how loud you increase the volume, the highs will still sound smooth!. Vocals are very natural and warm, sometimes I listen for the sake of beautiful vocals- no music - Yes, it's that good! I'm amazed by how loud the 3" midrange can get, reminded me of concerts. The mid-bass rides smoothly over the low-bass from the Subwoofer, you can hear the bass, but you can't notice it's precise location. The stage and imaging is very wide to the point where I didn't need rear-fill anymore, I installed the mids in the dash, tweeters behind the mirror factory location, and the mid-bass in the doors. *Piece of advice* --- since I'm using the passive crossovers, this set generates a load of 0.8-1 ohm. Make sure you use a high quality Amp. AFAIK class-D amps won't be able to play it, a high quality AB amp would be able to. Another thing is, this set is very very picky with the quality of music files. MP3 will sound like ** compared to lossless. It's a perfect set. Best decision. No regrets. Good luck
Pros: Beautiful design, Loud, high-quality, smooth, A lot of crossover adjustments.
Cons: 1- the crossovers picked up Alternator noise from the fuel pump and sender unit. I had to relocate the crossovers and the noise went away. It was mounted against the back seat and the fuel tank on a wooden piece. 2- It needs a lot of work, and wiring. If you want to fully appreciate this set, you should start with a clean install. It will expose all the flaws in your build. You need high quality wiring, RCAs, and deadening.
very detailed and high quality. the mids and highs are the best I have ever heard. I have had many competiton systems over my 25 years of an addict . Many of my other systems have been installed and tuned by the best shops in my area, and myself. The install was so easy due to the pods. The pods give you the opportunity to place them and listen before final install. This option will allow any begginer to be a real expert at balancing their range... I am again hearing awesome nuances in music and cant get out of my car in my driveway until the song is over. My wife finally agreed that there is a difference thats worth it$$$

K2 Cone: The woofer cone is a sandwich composite consisting of a foam core, a structural glass fiber bottom layer, and a Kevlar top layer. This combination of materials results in a rigid, light weight cone with excellent damping characteristics.
Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.
Zamak Basket: The woofer features a cast Zamak basket. Zamak is a rigid alloy of Zinc, Aluminum, Magnesium, and Copper. Zamak is non-magnetic.
Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1-9/16" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.
K2 Cone: The midrange cone is a sandwich composite consisting of a foam core, a structural glass fiber bottom layer, and a Kevlar top layer. This combination of materials results in a rigid, light weight cone with excellent damping characteristics.
Zamak Basket: The midrange features a cast Zamak basket. Zamak is a rigid alloy of Zinc, Aluminum, Magnesium, and Copper. Zamak is non-magnetic.
Phase Plug: The bullet-shaped aluminum phase plug in the center of the midrange ensures a smooth, flat off-axis frequency response by preventing the high frequency sound waves emanating from one side of the cone from interfering with sound waves from the other side of the cone.
Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.
Neodymium Magnets: The midrange drivers use Neodymium magnets, which have the same magnetic flux power as a ceramic magnet 10 times their size, reducing the size and weight of the speaker.
Size: The midrange drivers are not a standard size, approximately 3" diameter. It can be top or bottom mounted and has these dimensions:
Inverted Dome Tweeter: The TN53K tweeter is an Aramid fiber inverted dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter has a Neodymium magnet to provide a powerful magnetic field for the voice coil, while still maintaining the tweeter's compact dimensions. The dispersion is controlled by the twin radius wave guides to improve staging and directivity.
Mounting Options: The tweeter can be surface or flush mounted. Focal recommends flush mounting and the flush mount cup is built onto the tweeter housing. The included angled cup allows surface mounting at approximately 30°.
Tweeter/Midrange Mounting: Two surface mounting pods are included with the 165 KRX3 that hold a midrange and tweeter. The pods' dimensions are 6.856" x 4.114" x 3.123" (height above mounting surface).
Components: Focal uses audiophile grade polypropylene capacitors and air core inductors to ensure high definition and a dynamic sound quality. There are five switches on the crossovers to adjust crossover points and output levels, offering a total of 162 different settings.
Bi-amp: The new crossovers included with the 165 KRX3 have bi-amp inputs, one input for the midrange/tweeter combination and one for the woofer. When using only two amplifier channels the crossover inputs are shorted together. Focal recommends using four amplifier channels to bi-amp the speakers for the improved dynamic range and to present an easier load for the amp(s) to drive.
Tweeter Adjustment: You can adjust the overall output level of the tweeter on the crossover; set to -6 dB, -3 dB, or 0 dB. Another switch allows you to emphasize the extreme (high) treble frequencies.
Midrange Level: The midrange output is also adjustable; set to -6 dB, -3 dB, or 0 dB. When the mids are installed low in the door, some of the output is absorbed by the upholstery and they can benefit from a higher output setting.
Crossover Points: There are three crossover frequency options for both the woofer (low-pass) and midrange (high-pass) outputs; the exact crossover points are not given. The upper frequency limit of the midrange output is not adjustable.
Wiring: The inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will accept bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.315" wide.

great deal![ JANSEN Apr 27, 2017 ]
Recommended by local shop installing them.[ Stephen Mar 15, 2017 ]
I want to raise the sound stage from the doors to the front windshield. The mids and tweets that come with a pre fabricated enclosure are perfect for this. I also have seen great reviews on the mid-bass response on the mid woofers and the passive crossover is perfect for separating the signal for the mids and tweets.[ Scott Mar 03, 2017 ]
Recommendation from local car audio shop[ Scott Jan 07, 2017 ]
These are top of the line, quality speakers. Made in France![ Waymon Aug 10, 2016 ]
When using the supplied crossover to drive the tweeter and mid by one channel of an app, the load is approximately 2 ohms, the 6 3/4 mid bass driver is also a 2 ohm load. If you are using a typical stereo amplifier bridged to drive one tweeter and one 3 inch, or one, 6 3/4" per amp, it will needle to be stable at 1 ohm stereo or 2 ohm bridged.[ JASON M Apr 18, 2017 ]
The top leads the ones that don't look like they belong there are to the woofer the lower/original leads go to the mid/tweeter[ curtis Feb 03, 2017 ]
There is a sheet that comes in the kit that shows the connections. There is basically an added pair of connections for the 6.75" low frequency driver. This pair of connections are the upper ones on the crossover not next to all the rest. The other input inline with all the other mid/tweet connections is for the 3" and tweeter input power. Connect the two channels of your amo that you want to drive the miss and tweets to the lower, in line pair of connections, probably to the front channels or channel 1 & 2, or A & B, and the rear channels or 3 & 4, or C & D to the pair of inputs that are on the upper side above the previous connections. The diagram included makes it clear. Explaining it was harder then I thought it would be.[ JASON M Feb 03, 2017 ]
In the box there was a basic configuration diagram that showed how to bi amp wire it or bypass that feature, I also learned through the Crutchfield experts that because of the very low impedance loads required by these speakers, if you don't have a specific amp to handle that the you should bi amp it. If you don't have that diagram then I'm sure you could just hook up one channel to one of the input and see if it drove the woofers or midrange/tweeters. To operate without bi amp then you just connect the inputs together with the wire.[ John Feb 03, 2017 ]
The way I have it wired is Ch. 1-2 from the amp go to the input (also woofer) and Ch. 3-4 go the remaining inputs. Wiring this way controls the woofers and the mid and tweeter separately. When adjusting gain and crossover settings just remember that Ch. 1-2 will be for the woofers and 3-4 to mids and tweeters.[ LUIS Feb 03, 2017 ]
I assume by you saying four input leads, you mean two per crossover. Yes, that would be correct. It's very simple from that point. The first two leads from left to right (which are unlabeled) are your speaker inputs. You want to bi amp your system so youll connect amp A ( which will drive the mid range and the tweeters to the lower two unmarked leads on the far left. You will then connect the second amps output leads to the two connectors directly above the lower two. This will drive your woofers. Connect all wiring from the crossovers to your speakers as labeled. Gene P.[ Gene Feb 03, 2017 ]
i would keep all the components up front. This level of comp sets, the quality of the install is just as important as the quality of speakers. Your investing $2300 plus the cost of equal quality amplification around a $1 a watt kinda amp. If you do run this set passive, you will need an amp that can handle impedance spikes below 2 ohms. I'm biamping using 125w for the hp channels and 200w for the woofers. Bass is decent from the doors. Low level I run them hp @ 40hz and don't need subs. My other present (Bit One) is 70hz @48db/Oct. and are happy playing mid/bass. This set will play loud but not ment to be beat on heavily. $500 replacement tweeters are painfull to install. If you want detail and clarity these are incredible. If you want cranking loud and abuse tolerant try kicker, Rockford, JL.[ John Dec 06, 2015 ]
While these speakers offer great frequency response, they will not substitute for a dedicated subwoofer. So, if you like robust bass response, you'll definitely want to consider adding a sub. Component speakers in general are made to provide the detail, clarity and imaging for your system so I would certainly keep the all of the drivers up front with you. I hope that helps![ Ryan Dec 04, 2015 ] Staff
