Our take on the Focal Polyglass 27 V1

Focal's Polyglass subs pump out righteous low end that brings out the power in your music. Focal crafts these subs with tremendous care to ensure flawless output and long life.

Focal's Polyglass subs pump out righteous low end that brings out the power in your music. Focal crafts these subs with tremendous care to ensure flawless output and long life.

The Polyglass 27 V1 11" subwoofer can take up to 250 watts RMS, and it's designed for use in a ported enclosure. Its advanced Polyglass cone bonds a layer of hollow glass microbeads over a layer of cellulose to create an incredibly strong, responsive speaker. The large butyl rubber surround keeps the cone moving smoothly, while the engraved aluminum dust cap provides protection with a classic look.

Focal anchors this sub with a rigid, non-magnetic zinc alloy basket that won't color your bass. Advanced cooling around the voice coil keeps this sub running cool when your music heats up. Focal's pursuit of excellence makes this Polyglass subwoofer a great pick for low-frequency reinforcement in your vehicle.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 200 and 375 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

SQ Subwoofer

Lets get one thing straight about Focal Subs. They are designed for SQ in mind so if SPL is what your after, then you will either need (2) or more or choose a larger size driver. This subwoofer is optimized for a ported cabinet and I used a 1 cu ft sealed cabinet and it sounded amazing. This sub delivers very dry, tight, controlled bass but its not a loud hard hitting sub. They are about half as loud as a JL sub but they sound a lot more detailed and have a much tighter bass response. I suspect its output would be higher in a ported enclosure but they tune rather high so it will deliver more of the upper bass you feel in your chest rather than a deep bass response.

Ferrite Magnet: The Polyglass 27V1 woofer features a120mm (4.75"), 25mm (1") thick ferrite magnet for higher sensitivity up to 90dB (2.83V/1m).

Die Cast Chassis: The FOCAL Polyglass 27V1 features a die-cast Zamak chassis which is a rigid, non-magnetic, and non-resonant frame that provides a strong, reliable structure for the woofer.

Spring-Posts: The FOCAL 11" woofer is equipped with a pair of nickel-plated spring-post speaker terminals for easy connection up to 10AWG wire.
