Our take on the Focal Integration IC 165

Focal applies the same technology they use in their studio and audiophile-grade home systems to their Integration line of car speakers. Integration IC 165 6-3/4" speaker cones are made of Polyglass, a material that combines the warm sound of cellulose with the strength of glass, for a woofer that plays accurately with no added resonances.

Adjustable tweeter
The Integration processed aluminum inverted dome tweeter features a built-in phase plug and wave guide, which act together to increase the power of high-frequency notes and improve the stereo soundstage. You can also tilt the tweeter for better imaging in many vehicles. Integration speakers allow you to put Focal sound quality and construction into your vehicle without a lot of muss and fuss, so you can enjoy a dramatic jump in performance over your old speakers.

Note: Focal describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

I bought these speakers to improve the sound of my OEM system. I must say these are a step in the right direction as they filled in a huge hole in the sound reproduction of my system.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Amazing speakers I gave them a 4 star only because only after third pair they work great I don't know why but the first two first pairs I recieved one of the woofers started rattling like it was blown. Crutchfield was quick to deliver replacements fantastic customer service. I have Focal CA1 165 in my front doors and replaced my old Boston Acostic that I had in the back with these Focal IC 165 they have a much more powerful bass than the CA1 in the front. My set up is an Alpine F-300 4X50 RMS witha a Kenwood Excelon 995 HU I never had a problem with set up before so I think it was just weird chance that 2 pair of Focals failed. These speakers ROCK ! Hopefully I won't have to replace these anytime soon. I am very happy with this set up.

Pros: Excellent price for performance great bottom end.

Cons: Not as detailed as CA1 165

I bought these speakers to improve the sound of my OEM system. I must say these are a step in the right direction as they filled in a huge hole in the sound reproduction of my system.

Pros: The ability the direct the tweeters was a key feature. Solid construction, and great sound reproduction. These sound so much better that I have to purchase a set of of 6x9 now for the front. This is my first time using Focals but it won't be the last.

Cons: This is more of a gripe; for my application I had to drill new holes. But the material was thinner than I liked so I ordered some adapters and modified to mount my speakers using the existing holes.

So crisp and clear!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these based on the reviews talking about how clear they are. It's true. I love crisp, clear speakers and these are it. They don't seem to handle much bass, but I had to tune down the mid and treble levels to keep them from hurting my hears!

Pros: Super clear speakers. Build quality. Directional tweeter.

Cons: Terminal location.

These speakers SCREAM, all while staying extremely clear. I'm powering them with an old school Kicker ZX460. Look that one up kids, and marvel at an underrated legend! You can tell that these speakers are of great quality just by looking at them. The build quality is crazy good. My Complete system: Kenwood DDX470 (4) Focal IC 165 powered by an old school Kicker ZX460 (1) 15" Rockford Fosgate P3D2-15 powered by P500x1BD in sealed box I highly recommend these speakers to anyone that wants extremely good sound quality. These were installed in a 2007 Subaru Legacy GT with automatic climate controls. Crutchfield said that these speakers would not fit, but they did fit with a 1/4" spacer in the front doors and a 1/2" spacer in the back doors.

Pros: QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY! Great amount of quality for the price

Cons: Absolutely none.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crystal and solid, I hear nice spectrum of tones, not just a higher end like the one and only reviewr previously complained about. They are in the back seat doors which might help suppress their brightness but I just am not bothered in anyway and find these to be exceptionally worthy of praise. Together with my JLAudioC2 650X in the front doors and HERTZ tweeters in the dash to boot. And the Stealthbox by JL Audio in the rear cargo area.

Pros: the lower price

Cons: wish they were silk tweeters on it , but you cant always get what you want , but if you try sometimes, you 'll find , you get what you need,Idid.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My take on these speakers is a little odd because I have to praise them for having extremely clear Highs and Mids. I could really hear the definition in the music and they can play very loud. However, the clarity became the problem on my hour long commute each day. The highs were quite piercing even at low volume levels so I toned down the treble settings and still my ears became fatigued after being in the car for a little while. I don't listen to loud music in general but I found myself turning the volume down from conversational levels to low levels to eventually off to give my ears a break. When I purchased them, I was wanting a top notch sounding speaker and never thought that I would have this kind of issue but I have actually sent them back and bought lower grade speakers (Polk Audio DB series) and am very pleased with them because they don't wear on my ears. I suppose there are ways to get around this issue with proper 'tuning' equipment found in high-end systems so perhaps you won't have this problem. If not, they will probably be great speakers for you. Oh - another thing, because they produce such effective highs, I found that 'noise' in the system really jumped out. I tried all kinds of things to reduce the noise and was somewhat successfull but I was still getting a very noticable amount (with my lower grade speakers this is no longer an issue).

Pros: Incredibly effective at producing clear highs and mids. Excellent build quality. Top-notch materials.

Cons: In my opinion - too effective at producing highs. I was not able to compensate for this with the set-up I have so I would get ear fatigue on my hour-long commute. Ultimately I had to trade them for different speakers.

Polyglass Cone: The woofer cone has a cellulose pulp base and is coated with a uniform deposit of hollow glass microballs. The addition of the Polyglass layer significantly increases the cone's rigidity without adding much weight. This combination takes advantage of the accuracy and neutrality of the hard outer surface, but maintains the superior damping characteristics of the cellulose pulp.

Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.

Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.

Inverted Dome Tweeter: The tweeter is an inverted aluminum dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter rotates on its post, so it can be pointed toward the listener.
