Our take on the Focal Integration ISS 130

Focal applies the same technology they use in their studio and audiophile-grade home systems to their Integration line of car speakers. The Integration ISS 130 component system includes 5-1/4" woofers with cones made from Polyglass, a material that combines the warm sound of cellulose with the strength of glass, so they'll play accurately with no added resonances.

Focal ISS 130 5-1/4" 2 way Component Speakers

You can use this angled tweeter mount to improve high-frequency dispersion in problem vehicles.

Audiophile-grade engineering

Focal applies the same technology they use in their studio and audiophile-grade home systems to their Integration line of car speakers. The Integration ISS 130 component system includes 5-1/4" woofers with cones made from Polyglass, a material that combines the warm sound of cellulose with the strength of glass, so they'll play accurately with no added resonances.

Adjustable tweeter

Each separate Integration processed aluminum inverted dome tweeter features a built-in phase plug and wave guide, which act together to increase the power of high-frequency notes and improve the stereo soundstage. Focal includes a low-profile surface mount and an angled mount so you can set up the tweeter for the best possible imaging in your vehicle.

Built-in crossover networks

The crossover networks are built-in, so you don't have those extra boxes to install. Low-profile Integration speakers allow you to put Focal sound quality and construction into your vehicle, so you can enjoy a dramatic jump in performance over your old speakers. Grilles are not included; factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I can't take all the credit, working with Norm made it absolutely easy, yes.. their was some modification neseccesary but minor compared to the excellent modification that we set out to complete, modify a 20 years old stereo speaker system, and replace them with ISS 130's. The replacement of the original speakers with these Focal's allowed the true sound to be brought back from many years of loss highs and lows. Very impressive and enjoyable ride.

Pros: Very happy with the selection, and a great partner (Norm) providing great support and background on the E36.

Cons: None to mention

Great speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fantastic sound. Put these in my dash and the ISS165 set in a sound bar I custom built in the back of my 1999 Jeep Wrangler. Powering them with a 4 channel Alpine. Even in something as acoustically unfriendly as a TJ the quality of sound I am getting is jaw dropping. Don't expect big base, but then if that's what you are looking for you probably shouldn't be looking this direction anyhow. Great speakers. Very pleased. I am as impressed with Focal as I was told I would be.

Excellent soundstage

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound great. Very rich soundstage. I have them hooked up to an Alpine MRV-F300 and the sound is impressive. These speakers need an amp. For those that say they are lacking in bass, these speakers wont produce ground shaking bass but the bass is very clean. Make sure you set the hp crossovers right and the bass in my opinion is great. Buy a sub if you want bass. I had them hooked up to just the head unit and they sounded good but when I wired them to an amp it's like night and day difference. Thanks crutchfield for such a great product and service that is second to none!!

Pros: Clear crisp highs Easy installation

Cons: Can't think of any

Not so good for the price

Architekt from Miami on 2/10/2014

Not much difference with my factory speakers. I would say this speaker have a weaker bass. Tweeters sound much better. Clearer highs. Overall avoid this for the price

Pros: Clearer highs

Cons: Poor bass

Product Research

Polyglass Cone: The woofer cone has a cellulose pulp base and is coated with a uniform deposit of hollow glass microballs. The addition of the Polyglass layer significantly increases the cone's rigidity without adding much weight. This combination takes advantage of the accuracy and neutrality of the hard outer surface, but maintains the superior damping characteristics of the cellulose pulp.

Surround: The butyl rubber surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.

Phase Plug: The bullet-shaped phase plug in the center of the woofer ensures a smooth, flat off-axis frequency response by preventing the high frequency sound waves emanating from one side of the cone from interfering with sound waves from the other side of the cone.

Voice Coil: The voice coil is wound around a 1" diameter low-mass Kapton former, ensuring no coil deformation.

Inverted Dome Tweeter: The tweeter is an inverted aluminum dome, producing a broad sound stage. The tweeter has a Neodymium magnet to provide a powerful magnetic field for the voice coil, while still maintaining the tweeter's compact dimensions.

Mounting Options: The tweeters include two types of surface mount housings, one low profile and one angled:

Flush Mount Low Profile Surface Mount Angled Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.3" 0.894" 1.933"
Mounting Depth 0.55" 0.875" (screw depth) 0.875" (screw depth)
Frame Diameter 1.871" 1.88" N/A
Cutout Diameter 1.67" N/A N/A
Width N/A N/A 1.895"
Surface Depth N/A N/A 2.839"

Crossovers: The included 19" tweeter wires have integrated crossovers. The tweeter ends of the wires have quick-slide terminals that easily connect to the wires soldered to the tweeters. The input end of each wire has three leads, a negative and two positives. The positive leads are labeled Car and Display, with a lower output level from the Car lead (useful because the placement of the woofer in a typical car installation requires the tweeter output be lowered to maintain a balanced sound).

Why did you buy this?

Really liked the integrated crossovers to save installation space. Space is pretty tight for my application. [ Daniel  Aug 25, 2016 ]
