Great replacement for our old cargo box.
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
This Thule Force Alpine replaces our well used 2009 Thule Atlantis 1200XT cargo box. The Thule Atlantis 1200XT cargo box has served us well, but the factory paint (Silver) on the upper half of the clam-shell got quite weather-beaten due to our winters in the Northeast. Both the Force Alpine and Thule 1200XT cargo box have 12 cu feet of cargo volume. According to the specifications the new Force Alpine is apparently 1 inch wider and about two inches shorter than the 1200XT, but I could not see much of a difference and I was able to take my custom-made liner rug out of the 1200XT and place it directly in the Force Alpine without modification. I purposely chose this size of cargo box so I can also fit a bike and/or sea kayak on our roof rack with careful positioning. Any of the larger Thule cargo boxes will take up too much real estate on one's cross bars to fit any additional roof mounted accessories. I really like the matte black, diamond checked finish on the Force Alpine. Color is solid through the entire ABS material, so there will be no pealing paint. The box opens from both sides which is a big plus.
Pros: Great for XC or downhill skills, kayaking gear (wet or dry) and other outdoor equipment. The box opens from either side. Ease or mounting and removal. NO TOOLS REQUIRED! Fairly light weight for it's size. Does not take up my entire roof rack, so there space for carrying other items such as a kayak and/or bike.
Cons: Cost. (But let's face it no decent cargo box is inexpensive) Some care must be taken in closing the box, particularly in the winter. Do not ever force the box closed or the locking mechanism. Simply realign things and start over.
