Our take on the JVC Arsenal KW-ADV65BT

JVC's Arsenal Series KW-ADV65BT DVD receiver does a lot more than play discs. First, it features built-in Bluetooth®, so you'll be able to talk hands-free, place outgoing calls, and even stream music from your phone or other Bluetooth device. Then it offers a detachable 6.1" touchscreen that gives you thousands of color and display options. Last of all, JVC goes the extra mile to provide an incredible level of smartphone and app integration.

Outstanding iPhone® app control

With your iPhone connected via JVC's KS-U30 cable, you can view and control a wide variety of apps on the KW-ADV65BT's screen. You'll get basic control over audio apps like Mog and Tunein Radio — basic functions like play/pause or track up/down. You can also view traffic info from Inrix, Cobra iRadar, and other driving apps. For powerful navigation, download the MotionX-GPS Drive app (subscription required) and you'll be able to see maps and live traffic reports on the receiver's screen. You'll still need to access your iPhone with this app, so consider adding an iPhone mount for easy use.

Pandora with iPhone and Android™

JVC makes it easy for you to take your Pandora stations on the road. Just plug in your iPhone and you'll have touchscreen control over Pandora right in your dash. Plus you'll see artist and song info on the big display. Got an Android™ device? No problem — use your Bluetooth link to listen and control Pandora.

Great for the rest of your digital music

Once you plug your iPod or iPhone into the USB input, you can tap your way through all your tunes and playlist on this JVC's responsive touchscreen. If you're not an iPod user, you can load up a USB drive or a recordable disc with music — it's easy to fit hundreds of tracks on either one, and you can still dive in using the touchscreen.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

    Great System

    1997 Toyota 4Runner
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this head deck with the intention of adding a sub-woofer and nicer door speakers to my 97 4Runner. I opted for more features than originally planned. I've had it hooked up and rockin' for two weeks now and I am very happy with my purchase! It has the capability to add a back up camera but I haven't hooked that part up yet. It made my paid for '97 almost as current as my woman's 2014 Audi!

Pros: Handsfree talking on the cell phone through bluetooth works very well. Sound quality is very good. Fine tuning of the equalizer is nice too.

Cons: One con with the unit is it takes over a minute to connect the phone via bluetooth. The other is that when I connect the iPhone to the USB cord it asks me on the screen to say a voice.

    Great system!

Excellent purchase, the very good sound quality, easy to connect Samsung GS3 via Bluetooth for both calling and Pandora. Ipod connection was easy as well with excellent display of music info. Overall it is a great unit for the regrets.

Pros: All of the above plus responsive touch screen, easy to set up, and sounds great.

Cons: Slow start up screen, 5-8 seconds.

Slow and poorly laid out screen

Jamie from Virginia Beach, VA on 9/3/2013

    2006 Ford F-150
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off the stereo has pretty good sound, has a good screen, can play mp3s off the DVD or USB Drive. Remote works well and I'll have to get more used to using it as they made some poor design decisions with the touch screen controls. Be aware it has a nag feature where the car has to be parked to use the touchscreen. Just ground the wire to the chassis to avoid that. Install kits provided do not fit over the back of the stereo. Remove the face, the trim, and the mounting chassis and slide the mounting kit on from the front. For some reason they made the back of the stereo about 1/4" bigger than all other manufacturers.

Pros: 1-Touch Screen works great and is pretty responsive. 2-Controls Pandora over bluetooth for my Galaxy Nexus. Iphones get not only BT access, but have an adapter that plugs into the back of the stereo. 3-Can play mp3s from DVD or USB Drive. Haven't tried over BT from my phone.

Cons: 1-Very lousy design. Most used controls on the screen (Play/Pause, Next/Prev Song) are on the R side of the stereo away from the driver. The Change folder button is close to the driver (I always push this button instead of the next song button) 2-250Folder limit, 5000file limit. That's 250 total folders, not on each level 3-Slow Startup. From Car start to stereo playing an mp3 off the DVD or USB drive it takes 45 seconds. OEM only took 5 seconds playing mp3 off CD 4-no case for det. fac

A fine-sounding replacement for my 'premium' '13' Grand Chrokee

jeffeybehr from Pheonix, AZ USA on 8/15/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited came with a 10-speaker 'premium' sound system. Unfortunately. the sound quality was dreadful. The bass was excessive in level and boomy, ill-defined, and thick. Treble was excessive in level and VERY harsh--essentially unlistenable. (After a couple days, I was running the bass and treble sliders at full cut--THAT's how bad it sounded.) Opinions on forums were that that was the basic character of the digital poweramp and cheap speakers. I decided to start at the beginning and buy this DVD receiver and adapter system. WOW--what a difference. Sound QUALITY is much improved, and altho the frequency balance still needs some tone-controlling, the system is now plenty listenable. This receiver is very flexible--I MIGHT use 20% of its capabilities. One point of clunky design--the fader page takes several clicks to get to from either the disc-playing or equalizer page.

Pros: Excellent sound quality, high degree of flexibility.

Cons: Getting to the fader page requires too many clicks and detours.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After a lot of research and the reading of reviews on many brands of receivers, I am very pleased with the choice that I made. Installed it in a 2004 CTS and all of the features such as the Bluetooth, SiriusXM and Pandora just make the car feel more up to date. I was little intimidated since this was the first time that I had soldered wires, but I practiced on some scrap wire first and found it to be very easy. The excellent tech support and the fact that Crutchfield provides the customer with almost everything that you need for free or at a reduced cost makes it a no brainer to go anywhere else. The Bluetooth and the included remote when paired with my IPhone 4S make the use of the patch cable almost unnecessary except to maybe charge the phone. The DVD shows an excellent picture and the built in equalizer is pretty good also.

Pros: The Bluetooth, the detachable face, the sound quality, the included remote, etc. Overall a good value.

Cons: The screen could be a little bigger.

    JVC Arsenal

    BK from Nebr. on 8/10/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love this JVC Arsenal stereo! It makes the factory speakers sound so much better. I was told that I would have to cut a medal dash support out but it turns out it fit fine in my '05 Silverado. It works great with my iphone4s. The hands free calling works great. I can hear the other caller just fine and they can hear me good too. I put the corded mic by my sun visor on the sidepost trim. I can use the Inrix navigation app (free). It works but not to happy with the quality of the picture on the JVC screen. The street names are small and hard to read. You can zoom in with your phone but it wont follow you in zoom. That is probably just the app. I haven't messed to much with it, so maybe I can change setting to make it more visible. The JVC ipod/iphone cord that I also bought is OK only problem is the 30 pin plug in is TO BIG to fit in my phone with my Otter Box Armor case. I have to remove the phone from the case just to use the 30 pin plug. BIG FAIL! DVD's play great and look great. The JVC Arsenal does have alot of menus and does take time to figure out but not a big deal for me. Only thing that is lacking is hook up instructions for everything, but you can call Crutchfield and they can help. They gave me good instructions how to hook up a couple of things.

Pros: makes factory speakers sound great, app compatible (although there should be more apps). Back up camera ready

Cons: No case for detachable face. Fm signal could be better.

Fits perfect in my 04 Frontier, works amazing, love the Bluetooth streaming operation and the picture quality of DVD is awesome! The only complaint I have is that it came with no case for the faceplate and I can't even find one to buy for it

Pros: Lots of features for the price, Bluetooth operation is fantastic both calls and music, DVD picture is brilliant, remote works great

Cons: No case for faceplate, can't find a case to buy for it

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great service from Crutchfield, and super fast shipping as always!!! I have to say I'm a little disappointed at the fact that the display looks like that from a stereo 10 years ago. Even my 6 year old Pionner looks more modern than the one on the JVC. The great thing about this stereo is the sound. It has a powerful sound with plenty of fine tuning options. I almost gave it a 3 star rating for the fact that I will have to purchase extra items for this unit to work (properly)with my iPhone, and again for the outdated display. If you don't mind a dull display and some initial tweaking to get your stereo to work with your smartphone, then you will like this unit because of the great sound it delivers.

    Pros: The sound. Build quality.

Cons: -iphone connectivity requires the purchase of a proprietary cable. - Outdate, dull display with small characters. It's 2013. JVC could have done a lot better. - Lack of pause, rewind feature for Sirius XM radio.

    I was pleased

    2005 Honda Element
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The JVC Arsenal I installed in my 2005 Honda Element EX (7 factory speakers) went very smooth. I'd like to shout out to the Crutchfield tech support who were very helpful, organized and ready to assist as if they were in my garage with me. The JVC unit and the Honda adapter harness and finishing kit give the impression that it was OEM equipment. I had one mishap with the microphone wire which was cut by pulling through a sharp opening under the dash. Instead of another JVC microphone I ordered and Olympus and re routed the mic and it works well. The screen, sound and BT functionality are excellent. My OEM speakers have never sounded that good prior to the new JVC receiver. I bought the JVC Arsenal for the hands free convenience and very pleased with the addition to my baby Hummer.

Pros: Good software to handle hands free mobile phone book etc. The screen and functionality of this unit are very good.

Cons: The radio receiver picks up limited FM AM channels as compared to the OEM, but with all the options for music this is hardly a deal breaker.

Great product: Quality interface, picture, easy navigation

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pros: Looks great in dash clear picture easy to learn controls solid, quality design easy to customize Bluetooth connection is very fast with VERY little echo for the caller on the other end User friendly interface

Cons: My previous CD receiver seemed to have a better equalizer. It seems like my CD receiver allowed for a little more punch from my subwoofers. This model seems to give a more rounded bass sound. However, this may be due to the mono sub output while my previous receiver had a stereo output.

    Great in dash dvd reciever!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had my radio for about 3 weeks now, I have a 2005 Toyota pickup I installed it in. I am not a big stereo guy looking to try to impress everyone around me. I was just looking for functionality and versatility, things my factory radio did not have. One of the first things I noticed was the sound quality was awesome with my factory speakers, I was thinking I would replace them but right now I am really pleased with the way it sounds. I like I could virtually match my factory dash color to a T so it looks a factory as can be. I have a android Commando phone and the blue tooth works great ,very clear. Pandora works great too, just have to play it through the Bluetooth, it won't work on the USB plug. I bought the USB extension plug and did a low dash mount so I could just plug in a storage device for my music and such. That is very nice. I listen to some audio books and I use the fast forward and rewind sometimes and it only has two speeds 2x and 10x. Wish that was faster. Stinks if you bump the button and your 20 min into a chapter and you have to chase it back down. And AM radio is not that good, won't pick up like my factory radio did at all. I think that might be the norm with these radios. See how upset I get this fall when High school football starts and I'm wanting to to listen to a game.. I will most likely never use the DVD, I have nothing to say on that, I just wanted a touch screen. Over all I think the unit is great. Very pleased

Pros: functionality and versatility, sound quality, overall look, color options, Phone and mic work great. Everyone says I am very clear.

Cons: fast forward and rewind speeds are way to slow, would have liked to seen at least 20x, Am radio signal is very week.

Good quality for price and love the customization for background. BE SURE TO READ INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE SNIPPING ANY WIRES!!! I messed up there and it took me way longer than it had to.

Pros: Easy to navigate through home screen to equalizer. Love the mic. Like the option for rear view camera and other devices such as ps3 or Xbox

Cons: Minor Bluetooth glitch. Have to have my Bluetooth on my phone on first before turning nit on or it won't connect the audio. Also the usb won't read all of my audio files on my flash drive

    Enjoying it!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is our first DVD receiver and we're having fun with it. The sound is great and we use it to stream music with the Bluetooth from our Android cell phone, which seems to be working well so far. We have our business cell phone hooked up to it for phone use and the personal Android cell phone for audio use at the same time. We placed the microphone on the steering wheel and the call sound quality is great! The installation was a bit tricky as the kit didn't fit the vehicle correctly and we had to do a lot of modification. We also hooked up a back up camera and the picture quality is pretty good. Overall, we are happy with it.

I purchased this for my 2007 Chevy Silverado and the SiriusXM SXV200V1 Satellite Radio Tuner. I am impressed with the quality, ease of use and sound it produces. After I purchased it I received a Crutchfield catalog in the mail and read that this unit received the highest rating of the 5 DVD units compared and it was the lowest priced. I like how it is customizable colors and EQ. The buttons are easy to press and changing between inputs is quick and clean. Overall I am very happy.

    1999 Honda Accord
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in 1999 Accord a few weeks ago and I'm quite impressed. First and foremost, I love it, and I am particularly pleased with Crutchfield's instructions and installation materials. If you're going to buy this to install yourself, GET IT HERE! Installation couldn't have been. Crutchfield price is lower than JVC directly, and you get the installation kit. As far as the system goes, it is quite user friendly. Navigating the functionality is very easy, and no module has too many layers of complexity. Everything is intuitive, even in light of the range of options that exist for equalizer and display settings. I like being able to set my own wallpaper and adjust brightness and color schemes for separate lights on/lights off modes. The USB file navigation is VERY good, but switching between file types was the only counterintuitive feature I found. Sound is fantastic--can set default sound equalizer settings for each type of input, and a baseline between modes that doesn't result in a jarring change in sound level. "Dynamic" setting is pretty much perfect for most everything, but audiophiles will have nothing to complain about with the depth of adjustments possible. Apps are Apple only, as is the Pandora module. Hopefully JVC expands the Mirror Link to both this unit and Motorola phones to allow Android folks to enjoy the same functionality. Bluetooth connectivity still allows for full Pandora control (with app on Droid) and cuts into the system with turn-by-turn.

Pros: Extremely cool, excellent sound, easy to use, Crutchfield support.

    Cons: Focused on Apple users

    2005 GMC Sierra 1500
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit for my 2005 GMC Sierra SLT, it exceeded my expectations in many ways. The unit installed with no modifications needed. Removal and installation of the unit took a little over 35 min. The bulk of the time I incurred was figuring out the wiring for the steering controls. CRUTCHFIELD Tech Support is by far is the best I have encountered, hats of to (Travis) for his guidance's and patiences. The unit looks almost like a factory unit once installed into my Sierra. The ease of use of this unit is great, not difficult to navigate through the different functions offered with the unit. Bluetooth connectivity works flawlessly with my iPhone 4s for streaming music, making and receiving calls. Contacts can be accessed from the touch screen making hands free calling a breeze. USB is one of the most intuitive I've used for locating artist and songs. Choosing color combinations can be a bit confusing I would suggest consulting the manual. Great features offered with this JVC, price point is not bad either. You get almost all features offered with the higher priced units when using the app manger.

Pros: Bluetooth, Hands free calling, Keep steering wheel controls

    Cons: None

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this receiver for my wife for her birthday. She wanted something with a touch screen, Bluetooth for hands-free phone use and GPS. This receiver delivered it all and was easy for her to learn to use. It worked seamlessly right out out the box and she was ecstatic. Sound quality is excellent, the screens were easy to navigate, and the iPhone cable made all her phone apps easily accessible. Price was very good as well, an excellent value for the price and the installation was painless, about 2 hrs., start to finish.

Pros: Great price, easy to navigate, a snap to install .

    • Background: The unit's background color can be changed to one of eight preset colors - blue, light blue, red, green, yellow, orange, violet, or white. You can also create a custom color using a combination (0-31) of red, green, and blue.
    • Text: The unit's onscreen text can be changed to one of seven preset colors - blue, red, green, yellow, orange, violet, or white. You can also create a custom color using a combination (0-31) of red, green, and blue.
    • Buttons: The unit's touchscreen and hard-key button color can be changed to one of eight preset colors - blue, light blue, red, green, yellow, orange, violet, or white. Note: You can save separate color settings for Daytime and Nighttime driving.

Custom Background Image: While playing a video or JPEG file, you can capture an image and use the captured image as your background. When using a JPEG file as the background, make sure that the resolution is 800 x 600 pixels. The color of the captured image may look different from that of the actual scene. You cannot capture copyrighted content and images from the iPod/iPhone.

Picture Adjustment: You can adjust the brightness and black level of the unit's onscreen display. You can also adjust the contrast, color, tint, and detail level during video playback. The adjustment level for each setting is -15 to +15.

Selectable Aspect Modes: You can choose from four aspect modes for the in-dash display:

    • Regular: For 4:3 source material, 4:3 and 16:9 pictures display with black bars on either side (16:9 images are compressed).
    • Full: Expands 4:3 pictures horizontally to fill the entire width of the screen, distorting the picture slightly but retaining full image height.
    • Panorama: For viewing 4:3 pictures naturally on the unit's wide-screen display.
    • Auto: The correct aspect mode is automatically chosen based on the incoming signal.

Adjustable Dimmer: When the illumination lead (orange/white) is connected and the dimmer set to Auto, the display will dim automatically when you turn on your vehicle's lights. The dimmer can also be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display is always dimmed), or Dimmer Time Set (you program the time for the dimmer to turn off an on). The unit also features 3 dimmer levels to choose from - Bright, Middle, or Dark.

Parking Brake Detection: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire (attached to rear-chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display "Parking Off". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork.

Multi-Language Menu: There are ten options for the menu language; English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Swedish, Danish, and Russian.

The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. The external microphone features an attached 10' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.505" (depth).

Note: This unit does not offer an integrated front-panel microphone.

Note: You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone 4S/5. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

    iPod/iPhone Integration

iPod/iPhone Connectivity: The JVC KW-ADV65BT supports audio/video playback from select Apple iPods and iPhones.

    • Audio/Video Playback: The optional JVC KS-U30 USB A/V Cable For iPod/iPhone (105KSU30, sold separately) allows you to playback and control audio/video from your iPod or iPhone on this JVC multimedia head unit. You can access audio/video content stored on your iPod/iPhone device or apps streamed to your Apple device. The composite video/stereo RCA inputs handle audio and video transfer from your iPod/iPhone to the JVC receiver. By using the AV input, the music travels to the receiver as an analog signal, so you can even play the Digital-Rights-Protected files you've stored on your iPod/iPhone. The unit's rear-panel AV input must be set to "iPod" in order to playback audio/video from your connected iPod/iPhone. Video can only be displayed while the vehicle is in park.
    • Audio Only Playback: If you only want to playback audio from your iPod or iPhone, you can simply connect it to the KW-ADV65BT's USB port using the USB/iPod dock cable that came with your iPod/iPhone. This 1-wire USB connection bypasses the iPod/iPhone's DAC and sound quality is maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal-to-Noise ratio up to 95dB. The unit's rear-panel AV input must be set to "AV-IN" in order to use the 1-wire USB connection. You will not be able to play Digital-Rights-Protected files. This 1-wire connection only supports audio stored on your iPod/iPhone device and Pandora (no other apps or video content).

Note: If you have an iPod nano (7th gen), iPod touch (5th gen), or iPhone 5; use the Lighting-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect to the head unit. Or, use the JVC KSU-30 iPod cable (105KSU30, sold separately), plus the Apple Lightning to 30-pin adapter (472LTN230P, sold separately) to access audio apps. These Apple devices only support audio playback (no video output).

iPod/iPhone Control: You can choose to control your connected iPod/iPhone from the head unit and from the iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen.

    • Head Unit: From the head unit's touchscreen you can search for music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, Composer, and Audiobook. The KW-ADV65BT also supports Repeat (file/all) and Random (album/all) playback functions of your iPod/iPhone. Your iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen still remains functional.
    • iPod: The iPod control mode allows you to control stored audio/video content from your connected iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen. This is very useful for the person riding in your passenger seat. Basic iPod navigation controls remain functional on the KW-ADV65BT's touchscreen, but the advanced Playlist and Category search modes cannot be accessed from the head unit.
    • iPod Out: The iPod out mode displays the stored music playback menu of your iPod/iPhone on the JVC head unit's LCD touchscreen. You can control playback of your iPod's stored music by navigating the mirrored on-screen menu. The iPod out mode requires the JVC KSU-30 cable (sold separately) and that your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. The iPod out mode does not function for videos or apps.

App Control: The JVC KW-ADV65BT in-dash multimedia head unit offers two distinct App Control modes when connected to your Apple iPhone via the JVC KSU-30 iPod cable (not compatible with the USB connector cable that comes with your iPhone device).

    • App Mode: App mode for your iPhone requires the JVC KSU-30 iPod cable (105KSU30, sold separately). You will also need the Apple Lightning to 30-pin adapter (472LTN230P, sold separately) for the iPhone 5. App mode lets you listen to your favorite music apps, such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM,, Rhapsody, & Slacker streamed to your iPhone (iOS 3.0+) through the JVC head unit and your vehicle's speakers. You can even watch video on the JVC DVD receiver's touchscreen from streaming movie apps, such as Netflix & YouTube, downloaded on your iPhone 4/4S (iOS 4.0+). The iPod mode's video functions can only be accessed when the vehicle's parking brake is fully engaged. Not all apps will be compatible and only limited (basic), if any, control will be available. Available controls may include (Play/Pause & Skip Previous/Next). Access to your iPhone's downloaded application will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet.

    • Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KW-ADV65BT utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KW-ADV65BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KW-ADV65BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KW-ADV65BT are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KW-ADV65BT with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to low, the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to high, and the volume control will range from 0 to 50. The internal amp can also be turned off when all the speakers are powered by outboard amplifiers.

5ch/4V Preamp Outputs: The KW-ADV65BT is equipped with 5ch/4.0V preamp outputs (Front, Rear, Subwoofer). The front and rear preamp outputs allow fader control, while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading.

Subwoofer Level: You can adjust the KW-ADV65BT's subwoofer level (-50 to +10) independently from the head unit's main volume control for added bass volume.

Built-in Crossovers: The JVC KW-ADV65BT features a built-in high-pass filter for the unit's front & rear speakers, and a low-pass filter for the unit's subwoofer output.

    • High-Pass Filter: You can activate a variable high-pass filter (40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, 180, 220 Hz or Through) for the unit's front & rear channels (speaker- or preamp-level), so low frequency signals are cut off from your system's front & rear speakers. The front & rear channel's high-pass filters can be set independently of one another.
    • Low-Pass Filter: The unit's subwoofer preamp output features a low-pass filter. In order to prevent high-frequencies from being sent to your system's subwoofers, you can set the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter to 50, 60, 80, 100, 120 Hz or Through.

Speaker Select: You can select which type & size of speaker you have connected to the head unit. Choose from Standard (OEM/Factory), Narrow (4"/5"), Middle (6"/5x7"/6x8"), Wide (6x9").

Pro EQ: The KW-ADV65BT is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 8 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, Vibrant, and User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

    Frequency Level Q
    Bass 60, 80, 100, 150 Hz +/- 10 dB (-5 to +5) 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0
    Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 kHz +/- 10 dB (-5 to +5) 1.0, 2.0
    Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 kHz +/- 10 dB (-5 to +5) Fixed

Note: The audio adjustments are memorized for each individual source until you adjust the sound again.

Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can set the Loudness to On or Off.

Dynamic Range Compression: This function reduces a Dolby Digital soundtrack's dynamic range so you can hear quieter dialog without being overwhelmed by loud sections. You can choose a setting of On (reduced dynamic range), Dialogue (clearer movie dialogue), or Off (full dynamic range).

Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -15 to +6.

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    AV Connections

Dual A/V Inputs: The JVC KW-ADV65BT DVD receiver is fitted with two audio/video inputs. The unit features a front-panel 3.5mm audio/video input for connecting a temporary external A/V source, such as a game console. The head unit also features a composite video/stereo audio RCA input on the rear-panel for connecting a permanent external A/V source, such as a Blu-ray player or mobile ATSC tuner. The rear-panel audio/video input can be set to one of the following modes:

    • AV IN: Choose when connecting an A/V component like a game system.
    • iPod Video: Select when connecting your iPod using the optional USB/Video cable (105KSU30, sold separately).

Camera In: The rear-panel Camera input consists of a composite video connector which allows you to connect an optional rear-view camera (105KVCM20, sold separately). The unit features a reverse gear signal wire, that when connected to your vehicle's reverse light circuit, will automatically switch the KW-ADV65BT's display to the rear-view camera input. Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.2 seconds. Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.

Video Output: The rear-panel Video Output consists of a  composite video jack that allows you to connect an optional external monitor. You can watch the same audio/video source that is being played back on the JVC head unit on your connected external monitor (sold separately). You can select between a 16:9, 4:3 LB, or 4:3 PS Aspect Ratio for the unit's video output to match your connected monitor.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The JVC Arsenal KW-ADV65BT comes supplied with an IR remote control for wireless operation of the JVC multimedia head unit and your connected devices; included Tuner, Disc, USB, and Bluetooth functions.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Ideal for iPhone app lovers

Written by Dominic DeVito, Staff Writer - Creative, on 4/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
The JVC's home menu screen features ten small-ish icons in two horizontal rows of five, which is not great for a guy with big fingers like myself. There are other DVD receivers out there with more convenient displays. However, the JVC features three extras not often found in other similar DVD receivers: a detachable face, a remote control, and a front auxiliary input. The detachable face helps ease my mind since I don't have an alarm on my car. And the front aux-in comes in handy when I've got a passenger with an iPod or iPhone and I want a quick connection to their tunes. The on-the-go iPhone apps feature is nice but it can cost extra to use the really cool ones, like MotionX-GPS Drive for navigation. However, it's cheaper than buying a separate portable navigator and much safer (and smarter!) than following maps on your phone. Since the radio seems to be geared towards iPhone/iPod users, it would've been nice for JVC to include the cable needed to use apps through the radio.

I use it with an iphone 5 , htc thunderbolt and nexus 4 which are both droids. It is actually geared more towards iphones like everything else in this world but has the compatibility of allowing android based smartphones to interface with the unit. My gf has an iphone 5 and i use my nexus 4 and you can actually save profiles and switch between the phones in a matter of seconds via bluetooth. [ PETE  Jan 07, 2014 ]
