Overview

Our take on the JVC CS-DR520

Your sound solution

How long have you been driving around listening to subpar factory speakers, or even blown speakers? JVC's CS-DR520 5-1/4" 2-way speakers are the affordable solution. Built to weather the extreme temperatures of life in your car doors, these slim-profile speakers offer strong audio performance with good power handling.

Solid boost in sound quality

JVC uses a lightweight yet durable carbon mica woofer cone for a smooth, consistent midrange and a 1" balanced dome polypropylene tweeter that'll increase your music's clarity. These speakers will give you a solid boost in sound quality, even when powered by your factory radio. Grilles are included.

replaced stock blown speakers in 2006 trailblazer back doors. Originals were 6" and these speakers were 5- 1/4" . They were easy to make fit in the existing cut outs with the recommended kit adapter. Sound great .

Excellent speakers. Way better than factory. Paired with the new JVC stereo, they give crisp and clear mids and highs. Not much bass, but I did not expect much in a 5" speaker. Super easy to install.

1DogRescuer from Long Beach, CA on 10/7/2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I take responsibility for the [medium] Satisfaction Level for these speakers. I went "Economical", and for that tier, these are a Great Buy. But, if you have Any experience with [true] Fidelity, these are a miss, and should be expected to be so. They lack 'warmth'. I buy audio based upon Specs too often, and this is another example. On Paper, they should be phenomenal, but, in reality ... they are Acceptable. Lacking real Clarity in highs, very good in mid range. So, if I had a very limited Budget, these would be just Fine. If I wanted to save a little longer, and get some with real Fidelity [Clarity], I would get some higher-end speakers. Remember, Great speakers can make even the poorest head unit / amp sound Better. Poor speakers can also do the inverse ... make a great head unit / amp sound Bad. My advice to those who may have fewer [decades] of experience in Audio, put your money in Speakers as the top priority if you want Clean, Clear, Crisp sound. If you are building a [Zero Fidelity] "Thumping Machine", make your speakers from paper plates, it'll sound the same regardless ... like mud. As a General Reference Tool recommendation, I avoid Any speaker with foam surrounds. They will not last. Not too much experience

Pros: Value, Value, Value Specs - decent Performance Indicator

Cons: My expectations were a bit too high. Upper range [highs] not as clean as hoped. You get what you pay for .... Usually.

My Jeep sounded like the speakers were blown from the day I got it. I put the new speakers in with ease thanks to Crutchfield's easy directions. What a difference when we turned on the radio. We had bass, treble and a lot more clarity. Amazing compared to the factory speakers that were in there.

Pros: Easy to install. Sound is excellent.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought 4 to replace factory speakers in my Mothers Ford Freestar. The sound qulaity improved 100%. We can now hear bases that we could not with factory speakers. Had a installer do the installations had it done in less than an hour and even gave us a discount because he did not have to make or add any connections to hook them up. Crutchfield included everything he needed. Would definately recommend these for Factory upgrade or just to improve or add to an existing system.

Pros: Very nice tones. Highs are good and base is perfect for the mini-van it was installed in The extras are the an added incentive to buying and installing as well.

Cons: NONE

Sounds great but fits a little sloppy

Anonymous from Shreveport LA on 5/13/2016

1992 Dodge Dakota
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the money these speakers sound great, and they fit as advertised, barely. They are a bit small at the mounting points so they have to be half on one screw, half on another or one won't engage at all and the speaker will fall out on a 1992 Dakota front door application. Can't say the same for other vehicles. As for sound I don't think you can go wrong for the money. These aren't Focal or JL but they do the job very well as long as your expectations are reasonable.

Pros: Great price Very good sound Attractive grille

Cons: Sloppy fit in a 92 Dakota front door but still work, not the speakers fault!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put these speakers in the rear deck of my coupe. They went in nicely but the installation could have gone smoother if I had read the instal instructions a little more thoroughly.

Pros: Went in as they should have. Nice and neat.

Cons: Wasn't to Impressed with how they were packaged. The box was all beat up and taped with scotch tape. And there was three other items in the same box that were not damaged. Now I can't complain to much because I only paid half for one of the set of speakers, but I wasn't expecting them to be an "open box" set.

Nice speakers for the money, even better when they're discounted with purchase of JVC head unit! Sound quailty has gone up exponentially since putting these in together with Kicker 6.75's in 2002 Kia Optima.

Pros: Direct fitment made install very easy. Nice upgrade in sound quality from factory speakers.

Cons: Not really a product con as much as a user con...should've got the next size up as it seems they'd have also fit my car.

Balanced Dome Tweeter: Each speaker has a PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) balanced dome tweeter. PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone; balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter.

1 question already asked

Thanks for your question. No, this is not a component system. There would be no separate tweeter as it's built into the 2-way speaker. You can find this information on the main product page under "What's in the Box". Hope this helps. [ Kenny  Feb 13, 2017 ]  Staff
