These just don't hit low frequencies. After installing these in my nephews car we immediately re-installed the 20 year old stock speakers because they sounded so much better. These have virtually no low end.

Decent but not impressed

Tek from Norcal,ca on 5/20/2018

2014 Mazda 2

Not the best, 1 Kicker speaker blew out on me and I wanted a cheaper replacement. I wasted my money with these. I have a Sony system that turns the rear speakers into a virtual sub. That mode enhances the overall bass nicely with the old Kickers. But with the speakers the bass had no depth, I did not realize how good those Kickers were. These JVC speakers have poor bass, I had to purchase another pair of kickers, dropped them in and my bass is back to a wannbe sub. I popped these JVCs into my Wife's 2005 Lancer with a Pioneer deck (not as nice as my Sony). They sound better then the stock speakers they replaced but by no means am I impressed. Highs sound louder with more detail but still the bass sounds pretty close to the stock speakers (Couldn't test highs on my Sony deck since they were being used for bass only).

Pros: Highs are good. Glad I did not pay more for them

Cons: Bass, mids are not as rich as I was expecting.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are great if you're looking for a cheap upgrade from stock speakers and don't listen to your music loud but I'm a producer and like to crank my tunes up. These lasted me less than a month before they blew out and I wasn't even pushing them near their peak power. Not very durable, I'd recommend spending a few more bucks on higher quality speakers but like I said, if you want a cheap upgrade and don't blast your music these will suit you fine and probably last a bit longer than they did for me which makes it a subjective con. As always shipping and help on Crutchfield's part was phenomenal.

Pros: Louder than factory speakers Fairly Crisp Affordable Look nice

Cons: Not very durable Blow out easily Don't last long when pushed past about 50% rms power

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the front door speakers in my 2001 Dodge Dakota with these to see if it was my speakers or the head unit that was the problem. It turns out it was mostly the head unit. However, I was able to do a direct comparison between the 17 year old rear Infinity speakers and the new JVCs. Frankly I was expecting to be wowed by the new speakers, but really wasn't. The JVCs are crisper with better mid-range and treble, but are definitely lacking in the bass department. The old Infinitys were definitely better in bass, but were a bit muddier in the rest of the range. The installation kit that Crutchfield sends with the speakers worked fine, although I did have to trim the brackets a bit to get them to fit. Also, one of the wiring adapter connectors was a bit tight and was hard to get onto the speaker post.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in 7th gen Celica GT 6 speaker system. Installed for rear panels to replaced stock. Nice quality sound and design. Same issue with the JVC component set. Did not come with finishing screws to mount the speaker and grill to adapter brackets. I used 1/4" self tap screws I had in garage to mount the speakers. The speaker connectors are flimsy and easily bend when connecting meta speaker harness to them. I uesd a jeweler flathead screwdriver to space the gap on the neg connector. Other than that, very quick and easy install with the meta harness.

Pros: Nice clean design and quality. Sound quality is really good. little distortion when cranked up.

Cons: Did not have finishing screws to mount the speaker and grill to adapter brackets Speaker connectors are flimsy and easily bend when connecting meta speaker harness to them. Slight spacing on neg connector.

2012 Honda Civic Hybrid
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed new door speakers for my 2012 Honda Civic. The original Honda speakers had a design flaw in which the diaphragm was mounted to the frame with a mounting fabric that was too weak to hold the diaphragm in place. After a few years of use, the mounting fabric weakened to the point where the diaphragms rattled against the speaker frames. Each time the doors were closed, the speaker diaphragms would be jarred out of the frames and the rattling would begin, even more so when the radio was playing. I found Honda replacement speakers on the internet for a really cheap price. Gives an idea of how cheaply they are made. After I replaced the originals with new JVC speakers, the rattling completely stopped. They made a huge difference! I no longer have turn the volume up to hear the radio or listen to music. The new JVC speakers came with tweeters, not included in the original Honda speakers, which give a much clearer rendition of both spoken words and music. Honda mounts separate tweeters in the door posts of the Civic, but these don't provide enough volume to match the original door speakers. The additional tweeters in the JVC speakers add an essential dimension to the performance! Crutchfield provided exactly what was needed for this job. The instructions were helpful. They included the speaker wiring harness and speaker mounting brackets that fit the Honda exactly and made the job much easier. I was able to complete the speaker replacements in both doors i

Excellent replacement speakers over the factory ones.

Pros: I listen to the classic music in the car. The depth and quality of the sound is way better than the factory speakers that I replaced.

Cons: Being a 4 ohm speakers the volume is naturally smaller than the 2 ohm factory ones. But it is not bad at all. Of course being located at lower rear door definitely affects its performance hearing from the driver seat.

Not sure I'm going to keep these speakers as they only sound fair at best. In fact, the original Honda stock speakers I took out may sound a little better.

Pros: Nice looking grill. 1/2 price with JVC radio purchase.

Cons: Only fair sound. For a 6 1/2 size, the outer frame takes up almost 2 inches leaving only about 4 inches of speaker.

Terrific upgrade for 2002 Chevy Tahoe rear doors (factory amp bypassed for door speakers) along with KD-R988BTS receiver. Great sound, good bass response, and wonderful highs all with proper crossover and hi-pass and low-pass filter settings. Still running hi-level inputs at the moment and can't wait to hear them once I upgrade to line-level with amp.

Pros: good bass response while maintaining clear mid and highs

Cons: none

2016 Dodge Grand Caravan
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield is awesome for supplying the hardware to complete the install. No wire cutting or soldering. My brackets fit perfectly so no install mods needed. Yes you could find your product cheaper but you will end up paying more for he install accessories, that is if you can find what you need. That being said the actual speakers leave something to be desired. I have a 2013 Sonata with the standard sound system (not the premium) and these were no improvement. It was a bit of a trade off, I lost bass (not a huge deal for me since I'm not into that). But gained some crispness. They are very clear and I imagine would be an upgrade to an older car or a really cheap newer car. But if your looking to really improve your sound go with a higher grade option.

Pros: Super easy install, good clean sound even at high volume

Cons: Bass is not great, does not provide that rich full sound I expected.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My history with Crutchfield is Exemplary. This is the first time I've had any issues. Overall, I am Very satisfied. I remain a Loyal Crutchfield customer. Background Note: Stereo component selection should reflect the musical desires and expectations of the buyer. Me, I am an "Old Dog". In general, my generation is known for playing our music "too loud" on occasion (especially when we lived with our parents). Now, in our homes, we choose the volume that suits the mood. Many of us now own very high-end home "audiophile" systems. Our vehicles may also be very high quality. Rarely will you find an "Old Dog's" vehicle outfitted with "Bazzilion" watt amps, "Godzilla" subwoofers, and supporting components. There is nothing wrong with those systems. They simply are not what "Old Dog's" want. 5-Stars: JVC Speakers 1-Star: JVC supplied mounting fasteners. For final fitup/install, without removing door-metal, speaker mounted in Scosche Brackets and installed in door), I had to shorten screws by 3/8" and make/install 1/8" rubber bushings. .00001-Star: JVC supplied "nut clips". Clip metal was brittle. All clips failed, splitting cleanly in half at the 180 degree bend. I took several deep breaths, then purchased "certified" clips from a local vendor.

Pros: Crutchfield's reputation Quality of sound Durable design Good price

Cons: Installation hardware Door panel removal instructions

Replaced the factory paper cones in my 1995 Bronco. Even with the factory tape deck, yes I have a tape deck, the sound difference is huge. The old cones were so brittle that they fell apart taking them out. These new speakers produce sounds and clarity I didn't think the old head unit was even producing. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My 8 year old JVC KD-HDR60 car stereo receiver crapped out recently. While replacing the receiver with a JVC KW-R920BTS, I decided to also replace all 4 of the 12 year old car factory speakers (5 1/4" size, I think). The 6 1/2" diameter JVC CS-DR620 speakers fit my car doors, using the Metra 82-8148 speaker mounting brackets. The install was easy and only took 1 day. The 2-way speakers work great and have awesome mid-range and high-range sound. These speakers are not designed for low-range bass frequencies below 85 Hz, but the upper bass range sound is acceptable. As I have been for the past 17 years or so, my most recent car audio purchase from Crutchfield was a very satisfying experience. Thanks again!

These went in easily with the supplied gear, sound quality was improved a considerable amount over the stock paper speakers. Crispy highs, more mellow mids and and a nice boost to bass in clearing up the muddiness of the stocks. Great speakers for the price, bought then through a Crutchfield deal at 50% off. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound like garbage. I bought them as an upgrade to my stock speakers. I know they're cheap, but I figured they had to be better than the 20 year old stock Subaru speakers. I was wrong. There is clear separation between the bass, mids, and treble and each sounds distinctly terrible. The bass sounds like a drum stick hitting a Tupperware container, the mids sound empty and distant, and the treble is scratchy and crackly. Even my tiny cheap Bluetooth speaker sounds significantly better than these. I don't know how in this age of cheap technology you can even make speakers that sound so bad. I'm putting the stock speakers back in when I get a chance.

Pros: I can't even say them being cheap is a pro because they're so bad that they're not worth anything.

Cons:

Nice upgrade to my Infinity speakers of 20 years old.

Pros: Easy to install, nice sound for a small door speaker.

Excellent mid to high range, little to no bass.

Anonymous from Kansas City, KS on 9/8/2017

These speakers are excellent for mid and high ranges but the bass falls completely flat at 120 Hz and lower. I don't need the window shaking thump that others are looking for but I shouldn't need a sub-woofer to get the same bass that my stock speakers had.

Cons:

A step up from stock paper cone speakers.

A solid upgrade over stock speakers. Don't expect much out of them below about 120hz, but that's what subwoofers are for. Build quality is solid.

Pros: Separate tweeter. Handles 50w RMS without distorting.

Cons: Not the speaker's fault, but you're going to want a sub to reproduce anything below 100hz.

Ordered these while ordering a JVC head unit to take advantage of the discount. Reasonable sound quality considering the price. Bass was a little lacking as expected but mid and highs surprisingly clear and sharp. Overall very pleased with the performance considering the price.

Pros: Decent performance, especially mid/highs. Great value for price.

Cons: Gaudy covers obviously aimed to the teen set.

Definite improvement to the stock speakers on my '05 Hyundai Tucson. Has distinguishable clarity for highs mids and lows. High and Mids perform well at pretty high volume. Bass/lows are good until higher volumes and begin distorting. I would have thought these speakers would have had a higher threshold for distortion but then again that's what an external amplifier and subwoofer are for. Overall good product for the price.

Pros: - Clear highs, mids, and lows at standard volume levels - Durable - Price

Cons: - Distortion threshold - Doesn't include easy installation material

Bought two sets of these speakers for my Mercedes. Since the original speakers were fried and/or crispy, the sound out of these is music to my ears! Also helped that since I bought a JVC deck, they were half-price. Only gripe is with Crutchfield's design specs, saying that these fit perfectly in my vehicle. Not so--they were impossible for me to install, since they were the wrong size, so I had to pay a tech to install them.

The JVC CD-DR620 speakers are ok at best. I only choose these because of the 1/2 price package deal with a JVC receiver available at the time. These have no low range whatsoever. I need to add a sub-woofer to my system to get the low end back. The mids and highs are nice and crisp. I have to use all bass boost and EQ tricks in my new stereo to make the low end bearable. Too much bass boost and these speakers start clipping. However, if you are just into talk radio and using your system for phone calls - these speakers would work great. I was using the bluetooth feature on my new stereo and I was able to hear my phone call perfectly with the windows down.

Pros: Great for mid range and high range.

2006 GMC Canyon
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I picked up four of these speakers along with a JVC KD-R888BT receiver and installed them all in a GMC Canyon crew cab pickup. I am generally pleased with the performance of the combination, especially considering the price. The speakers have a very nice build quality and installed easily with the Crutchfield adapter bracket and cables. These speakers definitely have a strong upper-midsy emphasis making vocals pop and music sound fairly bright. I cannot say I really enjoyed the sound with a flat EQ, as it was too harsh. The KD-R888BT receiver I bought has good EQ options which help smooth this out and produce a more balanced sound. The speakers generally lack bottom end and warmth. By cranking the EQ in the lower registers I can just start to feel a rounder bass sound in rock music. I would like to eventually pair these with a modest powered sub-woofer to cover that lacking bottom end feel for kick drum, bass, synth, and even the lower end of piano and classical instruments. With that combination these would do a nice job covering mids and highs with decent clarity/articulation for their price. If you're just into talk radio or less bassy pop music, these might make you very happy just on their own.

Pros: Good build quality Clear and articulate vocal and guitar sounds

Cons: Lacking in bottom end Recommend having EQ options in your head unit to make these sound balanced if used on their own

Purchases these for front and rear in my son's 2008 Subaru WRX. Matched them to JVC KW-V220BT receiver and got them for 50% off, awesome deal. These speakers are 10x better than the factory Subaru ones! I had to drill one hole for each speaker, to accommodate for the included SAGMEQ656 mounting brackets. I didn't have to remove the tabs as the instructions with brackets recommends. The speakers sound great, well worth the money!!

Pros: Great sound, reasonably priced

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these because they were half off with the JVC head unit and I thought they would sound better than my working factory GM speakers (2005 Colorado). I was wrong, wasted time and money. I put one in the left door and tested balance to the still factory speaker in my right door, what a difference...in a bad way for the JVC speaker. My factory speaker sounds so much deeper and richer in sound. These JVC speakers are so flat sounding and have no bass. Maybe GM just uses good really good quality speakers and these JVC ones might be ok if you just need a cheap fix to get some sound in your car if you don't care about how it sounds.

Pros: Nice look and fit.

Cons: Flat sound, no bass...none.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers aren't bad for the price. So I will give them 4 stars. They have really good highs. Obviously they don't have a lot of low end. I put them in my truck. I was looking to add speakers to the rear doors. These fit well in my access doors. They are pretty shallow, but have a magnet big enough that you can see. I wanted to add mids and highs to my system which has a sub. For this purpose they do a good job. So far the quality is good. They fit well and work perfectly. Pluses: Price, quality, great high and decent mid sound. Negatives: Don't put out a lot of thumping bass and the speakers do bottom out in the mid range somewhat. (For 60% of users this won't be a big deal because we don't turn it up that loud.)

Pros: Great highs and decent mids.

Cons: tend to bottom out if turned up to loud.

Peter from Round Hill, VA on 12/5/2016

2001 Toyota Camry
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, these speakers are just ok. I had one blown speaker and replaced that one first. The OEM audio system was the base system, so I expected these admittedly cheap speakers to at least be on par with that low bar. This speaker seemed to have about the same frequency response as the OEM speaker, but generates markedly less volume at the same power level. However, my main annoyance was with installation. The speaker doesn't fit the OEM mounting, so you get an extra mounting bracket, ok. However, the the angles are wrong for the extension tabs that reach out to the original mounting screw holes. Apparently Crutchfield never heard of a Toyota Camry. So you can't even fix this by drilling the plastic bracket, but rather need to drill the metal door. The speaker-to-bracket mounting screws are so tiny they nearly pull through the holes, and have non-locking washers -- as well as blank heads, making tightening a challenge. Look forward to future buzzing, vibration and rattling. Finally, the provided wire harness is ludicrously too short, so you will be splicing. This is the headache you get installing into the best-selling model of the country's best-selling car. This was still not a difficult project, and Crutchfield did actually warn of some of this at checkout. However, this could and should easily have been a couple of quick screws into a correct-fit bracket, and simply plugging in a wire harness of adequate length.

Pros: Cheap. Reasonably flat response.

Cons: Inefficient (low volume). Non-fitting mounting bracket and too-short wire harness for a ubiquitous automobile.

I had both front speakers installed in 30 minutes and didn't destroy anything on my truck in the process. The adapters, both mechanical and electrical along with the installation instructions were an outstanding plus, although the instructions were not exactly correct for my WT version of the 2005 Silverado. Excellent speakers as for price/performance. Way better sound than the original speakers install by GM. I installed a new JVC head unit then the new speakers. Precaution! Do not judge the speakers upon first start up, as I almost did myself, make the sound adjustments that is suitable for your music palate, these speakers will come alive for you!

Pros: Easy to install, had both speakers installed and running in less than an hour.

Cons: None yet at this time

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought two sets of these JVC speakers to go with a new JVC CD player plus they were on sale, however their sound quality leaves much to be desired. While the highs and mids are adequate, the low end is terrible. I have tried various eq settings and any volume even slightly loud, the speakers distort. Overall they sound tinny. They're okay if you're a fan of talk radio (just don't turn it up or play any music). I am planning on replacing them in the near future. Do yourself a favor and purchase something else.

Pros: They produce sound

Cons: Terrible low end, very tinny sounding

Very happy with the speakers, They are just what expected and better.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got the speakers installed no issues thanks to Crutchfield being awesome and giving me all the neccessary stuff to make it fit like factory. As far as the sound quality of these JVC's go the highs are great and they sound much cleaner than the stock toyota/scion units, but the lows leave something to be desired. When any moderate level of bass is played the speakers will distort make unpleasant sounds. I am hoping once i get rid of the stock head unit i will be able to tune the EQ so that the low end lows will not affect the speakers like they do with the stock unit and be able to use a small sub woofer to take care of the low frequencies.

Pros: Cost Clean, crisp highs

Cons: Muddy, distorted lows

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I found these speakers great, they fit in my door and deck and were very easy to install! I immediately noticed s big difference in sound quality, and as I played with my Audio settings I found out how great they really sound. Tons of bass for how small they are, just got to make sure you actually turn your bass up on your receiver. Great clarity as well, couldn't be any happier and got it for a great price! I recommend a jvc reciever with this product! Sounds so good, I'm happy I decided not to get an amp with it.

Pros: Cheap, small, great output, easy install, high wattage low price!

Cons: Make sure you have or get an after market receiver as well.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had bought a Jensen head unit and with the Dual brand door speakers my would crack out at high volumes. These speakers are so clear and produce such highs that I am astonished. I also am running two 12's Memphis Audio. I couldn't be more happier with my set up. Now with that being said, if you are looking for bass out of these speakers, you are not going to get it. I didn't buy them for the bass, I bought them for the highs. So if you have a stand alone head unit with these speakers and no amp and sub's, you probably should look at a different pair. I love my system now.

Pros: Clarity at high levels

Cons: Absolutely no bass

This is a replacement for the front factory speakers for my 2002 Yukon & they're a definite step up in sound quality. They don't have a lot of bass to them, which could have more to do with the factory stereo than the speakers themselves, but have a good overall sound that I'm very pleased with.

Cons: None.

Balanced Dome Tweeter: Each speaker has a PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) balanced dome tweeter. PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone; balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter.

Mounting: The speaker basket has multiple mounting holes and is designed to fit standard 3-hole 6-1/2" applications, 4-hole 6-1/2" applications, and standard 4-hole 6-3/4" applications. (When mounting in a 6-3/4" application, use a speaker baffle to seal the inner ring of screw holes.)

Crutchfield offers mounts that will fit your new speakers and they are likely to fit your vehicle as well. In one instance I cut the OEM speaker out of its mount and attached it to the new speaker and that worked very well. Just depends on what you want to try and the time you have to experiment. [ Richard  Mar 14, 2018 ]
No bass. I use these as tweets and mids with 12 inch Memphis audio subs. I don't recommend using these by there selves without subs or at least 6 by 9's [ Paul  Oct 19, 2017 ]
The bass is good for a small-ish mid-range speaker. It's stronger with the high and mid range, as expected, but the bass isn't disappointing. Important to keep your expectations in-check for the class of speaker this is. If you are expecting a full range on the deep end you will want to add a small sub (under seat possibly) to fill out the sound. [ Richard  Oct 19, 2017 ]
The max wattage of jvc speakers is 300RMS watts but not sustained. At 4 ohms the speakers would be able to handle the unit. At 2 ohms the unit will produce around 500 watts. Only use 4 ohms using the jvc speakers. The less ohms means less resistance which produced more watts. [ Shawn  Mar 07, 2017 ]

The best way match speakers to an amp is to look at the RMS watts and ohms of both and make sure they match. I would guess that the 800 watt rating on the amp is its peak power output which does not give us the information needed to confirm they will work together. If I were you, I would track down the specifications on the amp to see if its output falls in the 75 watts RMS or less per channel at 4 ohms. If so, then it will work with these speakers. Otherwise, I would not connect it. Feel free to call an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 for an amp recommendation. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101 [ Paul  May 16, 2016 ]  Staff
