Our take on the JVC CS-DR1700C

Step up with components

How long have you been driving around listening to subpar factory speakers, or even blown speakers? JVC designed the CS-DR17100C component speaker system to be an affordable solution that provides a serious sonic upgrade. Built to weather the extreme temperatures of life in your car doors, the slim-profile 6-3/4" woofers offer strong audio performance with good power handling. Additionally, you can mount the separate tweeters up higher in your vehicle, giving you great stereo separation so you can enjoy your favorite songs like never before in your car.

Solid boost in sound quality

The system includes a lightweight yet durable carbon mica woofer that offers smooth, consistent performance, along with a 1" balanced dome polypropylene tweeter that'll increase your music's clarity. These speakers will give you a solid boost in sound quality when powered by your vehicle's radio, but they'll really shine when powered by an outboard amp. Grilles are included.

Great sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Terrific upgrade for 2002 Chevy Tahoe front doors (factory amp bypassed for door speakers) along with KD-R988BTS receiver. Great sound, good bass response, and wonderful highs all with proper crossover and hi-pass and low-pass filter settings. Still running hi-level inputs at the moment and can't wait to hear them once I upgrade to line-level with amp.

Pros: Love everything about them!

Cons: None

Don't believe the hype

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are just barely better than the stock speakers. Not worth the price, even at 50% off. I didn't even bother doing a custom mount for the tweeters because of the lack of quality with the 6 3/4 speakers. Not worth my time. The magnets are actually smaller than the factory speakers. Mounting holes did not line up with the factory holes. A few self tamping screws helped me mount them. I would save my money if I were you. Or get some speakers that are of a higher quality than these.

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: Sound almost like the factory speakers Mounting holes do not line up with the factory holes

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this set for half off with my JVC head unit and couldn't be happier, especially for the price. They fit great in my 2004 Colorado and are a night and day difference over the stock units. Thanks to Peyton at Crutchfield for his recommendations! As always, top notch customer service and fast shipping. Crutchfield....the only place I will purchase my audio equipment.

Pros: Easy to install in my vehicle. Great customer support from Crutchfield. All the adapters to plug them right in.

Cons: none

Great upgrade to the factory speakers. No problem pushing them with a 18w head unit. Very crisp and clear. Great deal with the 50% JVC special as well. Couldn't be happier.

Better than factory speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The tweeters are not easy to properly install in the stock locations. It involved drilling 2 holes in the stock turn-to-lock carrier, siliconing a length of metal hanging tape to the back of the tweeters, inserting 1 1/4 rubber slip joint gaskets to decouple them from the carriers, and securing each assembly with 2 machine screws. They would be easier to mount on the sail panels, but then they'd be in plain view and they're not exactly pretty. All in all these speakers sound better than the stock ones.

Sounds nice, but not much bass.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These were upgraded with a more powerful head unit. They get louder and are clearer as long as I turn the deck's filter to block out everything below 100Hz. Before I did that, the sound distorted whenever anything with lower octave bass played.

Pros: Clear nice sound.

Cons: Fairly weak on lowest of bass.

Nice speakers, fit easy, did not work with factory connections on the tweeter had to splice into the supplied connection for the woofer. sounds good with the entire system I purchased. very happy with the end results for my 2004 Beetle

Pros: very nice for my 2004 beetle, easy fit on woofer.

Cons: you will need to make a bracket for the tweeter and splice into the woofer

great deal

Nice easy replacement for blown subs

Al from Collinsville, IL on 3/30/2016

2006 Chrysler Crossfire
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The subs in my wife's crossfire had blown and finding replacement parts has been almost impossible. I was getting ready to ship the speakers to a repair shop when I noticed these speakers. The woofers fit easily in the factory enclosures. The tweeters are not used and don't work due to the way the amp sends only the low-end frequency to the rear speakers. It's not quite a deep bass as the factory subs but for the price it is adequate and does a nice job of filling out the sound in the car. My wife is not much of an audiophile so she is happy with it. Someone who is more of an audiophile might not be as happy. The only knock is that the terminals for attaching the speaker leads are pretty flimsy and bend easily.

Pros: Easy to install, great price, adequate bass to replace factory subs

Cons: Flimsy connection terminals

Product Research

Tweeters: The tweeters are PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) balanced-domes; PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone. Balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters can be surface mounted without adding anything to their fixed housings. Brackets are also included to allow angled surface mounting (approximately 30°).

Tweeter Dimensions:

  Surface Mount Angled Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.643" 1.47"
Mounting Depth 0.15" (minimum) 0.15" (minimum)
Frame Diameter 1.82" N/A
Cutout Diameter N/A N/A
Frame Width N/A 1.822"
Frame Depth N/A 1.860"

Tweeter Crossovers: The tweeter crossovers are wired in-line with the included speaker wire. The input end  is bare wire and the woofer end has female quick slides to connect to the woofer terminal. The 50" tweeter section of the wire is shorted to the woofer quick slides, and also has quick slides on the tweeter end, which plug into the wire attached to the tweeter.

Q & A

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

I damaged my previous one during installation. [ Thomas  Dec 27, 2017 ]
I was already tempted to buy this set of speakers for the price but after realizing I'd still receive 50% off after purchasing a JVC head unit, I definitely couldn't pass up on the deal. I'm excited to replace my factory speakers with this JVC package. [ Melissa  Nov 21, 2017 ]
Half price sale. [ William  Nov 13, 2017 ]
I purchased a JVC head unit and it was 50% off up to 2 pairs of speakers. I'll give them a try. [ Aric  Sep 18, 2017 ]
Sale [ Brian  Sep 15, 2017 ]
Only component set with the JVC deal [ Justin  Jun 27, 2017 ]
Fits properly, good performance and design quality, and discount with JVC receiver purchase. [ Robert  May 28, 2017 ]
Seemed like an appropriate fit for my vehicle. Both the sub-woofer and tweeter are compatible according to Crutchfield. [ Richard  May 09, 2017 ]
Purchased a JVC HUN and the 50% off deal on these speakers was too good to pass up! [ Azuree  Dec 19, 2016 ]
fit, price, and speaker 1/2 off deal [ Richard E.  Dec 19, 2016 ]
These speakers were a good match to the head unit I purchased to provide decent sound without the need for an amplifier. With plans to add an additional amplified sub, I can overlook their lack in "punch" at lower frequencies as they are supposedly superb in the mids and highs. [ Troy  Oct 23, 2016 ]
Looks to be a direct fit for the stock woofer/tweeter combination. [ Michael  Aug 03, 2016 ]
Good reputation [ Michael  Apr 20, 2016 ]
It's supposed to fit my '06 Crossfire, which currently has blown subs. We'll see... [ Allen  Mar 14, 2016 ]
