Our take on the JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT by Crutchfield's Zak Billmeier
No more scrolling words — the JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT CD receiver features a 4-line display that makes it easy to read song info no matter which source you choose. So whether you're listening to tunes on your iPod, checking out Pandora® on your iPhone, or streaming an app from your Android™ phone, you'll know what's playing at a glance. When a call comes in, it'll be easy to tell who's on the other line.
Plus, you can customize the look — choose from over 30,000 different shades for the left and right sides of the receiver. And you can rest easy knowing the receiver is covered by the Arsenal two-year warranty.
Hands-free calling is just the beginning — think of Bluetooth as a wireless bridge between your smartphone and your dash. JVC includes a tiny little Bluetooth dongle that fits nicely on one of the rear USB inputs. Pair up this JVC and an Android™ smartphone, and you can harness Bluetooth's full — you'll be able to receive text message notification, stream music, or access Internet radio stations, depending on your phone's features. iPhone® users get the same features while connected via USB.
Smart Remote for Android™ smartphones
JVC's Smart Remote Android app lets you use your compatible Android phone's touchscreen to control the action using finger swipes and gestures — for example, tap the screen to play and pause, or swipe right to skip forward a track. Install your Android phone in a mount in a convenient spot, then you'll be able to reach down and skip a track without taking your eyes off the road.
Pair two phones at once
The KD-A95BT's built-in Bluetooth lets you pair two phones at once — no need to choose between your personal and business phones. When a call comes in, the receiver will blink either blue or red, so you'll know at a glance if your call is coming from home or the office. To answer a call, just tap the volume knob.
Higher-power USB connection
JVC upped the power in their USB port, which lets you keep your smartphone charged, even when it's doing several tasks at once. And with your smartphone connected, you can listen to its internal memory as one source and access the little microSD card as another.
Control PANDORA® Internet radio
JVC makes it easy to play your favorite PANDORA Internet Radio stations. iPhone users can control PANDORA when connected to the USB slot, while Android and Blackberry owners get full control of Pandora over the Bluetooth connection, depending on your phone's features.
Want to keep your steering wheel controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.
Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.
Installation kit made installation a snap sounds good, audio over Bluetooth works good, display seems bright enough. Plenty of power for a ranger pickup.

Burr-Brown 24-bit D/A Converter: The JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT CD receiver utilizes a premium TI/Burr-Brown 24-bit digital-to-analog converter for superior sound quality.
MOSFET Amplifier: The KD-A95BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.
CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KD-A95BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KD-A95BT are as follows:
- CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
- Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)
5V/6CH Preamp Output: The KD-A95BT is equipped with three pair of 5V gold-plated preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The front & rear preamp outputs offer balance/fade control and are designed to hookup to a full-range 4-channel amplifier. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading and designed to hookup to a mono-block subwoofer amplifier. You can adjust the head unit's subwoofer level between 0 and 8, as well as the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse).
Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-A95BT with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.
Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.
My Sound EQ: The My Sound EQ features lets you customize your car audio system's sound by listening to test tones in five frequencies (All, Low, Middle, Middle-High, High), each represented by a different type of instrument. You can adjust the level of each frequency between -9 to +9. You can save up to 3 My Sound EQ Profiles (Sound 1/2/3) for easy recall. You can also download sample music (instruments) in various genres for the My Sound EQ function from the JVC mobile website onto a USB thumbdrive.
5-Band EQ (with Presets): You can select a preset sound mode suitable for your music. You can select from Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal, Bass, or User. The User mode lets you customize the head unit's 5-band EQ (50Hz, 200Hz, 800hz, 3.2kHz, 12.5kHz) from +/-9dB.
Source Link EQ: This feature allows you to store the head unit's Preset EQ or 5-band EQ settings for each source (CD, AM/FM, Aux, USB, iPod, Bluetooth, and Pandora).
DSP Control: In order to optimize the sound quality, you can use the head unit's DSP control to set the type of vehicle, your seated position, and speaker size, distance, & x-over points. The DSP settings include the following:
- Car Type: You can choose what type of vehicle you have; Compact, Sedan (medium), Sedan (large), SUV, SUV (small), X'over, Truck, Wagon, Minivan, or Van.
- Seated Position: For a better sound-stage you can select your optimal listening position. You can choose from All, Front Left, Front Right or Front.
- Time Alignment: You can manually fine tune the sound stage by selecting the distance for each individual speaker in the vehicle compared to your listening position. You can select between 1.6-16.4' for the Left Front Speaker, Right Front Speaker, Left Rear Speaker, Right Rear Speaker, and Subwoofer.
- Speaker Crossover: You can choose between an Easy

crossover for the unit's subwoofer preamp output.

- Low-Pass Crossover (Subwoofer): variable low-pass filter (30-200Hz)and crossover slope (-12/-18/-24 dB per octave); frequencies lower than the selected frequency are sent to the subwoofer.
- Easy: The speaker X'over is automatically set when the size of each speaker is select from the following items.
D.T. Expander (Digital Track Expander): The Digital Track Expander feature compensates for harsh high frequency sound in compressed digital tracks. The Digital Track Expander effect can be used for MP3/WMA (64-128 kbps) audio files and iPod/iPhone music files.
Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. The Loudness features has four settings (1, 2, 3, or off).

Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio, CD-Text, and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs.
MP3/WMA Playback: The KD-A95BT can play MP3 (5-320 kbps)/WMA (5-320 kbps) music files that have been recorded on CD-R/CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, or Romeo. The CD receiver can support up to a total of 20,000 files and 2,000 folders (999 filer per folder). The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3 or WMA files.
Track/Folder List: The Track/Folder List displays a list of MP3/WMA folders and tracks on a loaded CD, so you can easily access your music. The Track/Folder List will also display the list of track titles on a CD Text disc.
Quick Search: You can search for your MP3, WMA, or WAV music tracks alphabetically (A-Z) or numerically (0-9).
Random/Repeat Modes: The JVC KD-A95BT offers the following Repeat and Random playback modes for your audio CDs.
- Repeat: Track Repeat (plays the current track repeatedly), Folder Repeat (plays all tracks of the current folder repeatedly), Off (cancels repeat function)
- Random: Folder Random (plays all tracks of the current folder, then the tracks of the next folder in random), All Random (plays all tracks of the current disc at random), Off (cancels random function)
Disc Resume: If you change the source, playback also stops (without ejecting the disc). Next time you select CD for the playback source, the disc will start from where it has been stopped previously.
Off Insert/Eject: A CD disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback.
Disc Protection: If the ejected disc is not removed within 15 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it from dust. The source will change to CD, and the disc will begin playback, even if you have another source selected at the time.
Mounting: For proper disc playback you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.
Detachable Fold-Down Display: The JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT features a manual fold-down face-plate with a 3-line alphanumeric-text display. The JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT's face-plate is detachable to deter theft. A hard-plastic face-case is provided. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can also be purchased for this unit.
Variable Color LCD & Key Illumination: The JVC Arsenal KD-A95BT features 29 color presets for the LCD and button illumination. You can choose one of these color presets or select the ColorFlow mode which scrolls through all 29 color presets. Additionally, there is a User preset, allowing you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue from 0 to 31; resulting in approximately 30,000 custom color options. The chosen color preset or custom color can be applied to the display panel and the backlighting for all the buttons except the eject button (it remains red). You can choose to use the same color for the LCD display and button illumination, or use a separate color for each one. You can also select a different color for daytime and nighttime in regards to the unit's LCD and button illumination.
LCD Type: You can select between a Negative or Positive pattern for the display. You can also set the unit to automatically switch to a Positive LCD pattern during the day and a negative LCD pattern during the night.
Brightness/Contrast: The unit offers an adjustable display and button illumination brightness level (0-31) for day and nighttime driving. You can also adjust the display contrast (0-8) to make the display clearer and more legible.
Display/Button Illumination Dimmer: The display/button illumination dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display/button illumination is always dimmed), or Auto (display dims when 12-volts is applied to the orange/white illumination lead).

Yes it can, I have it wired up to the one in my qx4 [ ERICK Oct 27, 2015 ]
While it does have a power antenna lead, I cannot help, I did not use it. Sorry [ JIM Oct 27, 2015 ]
Yes, This unit has a power antennae circuit and thus should control an antennae. [ COLIN Oct 27, 2015 ]
Horrible, wouldn't suggest buying 7 months after purchased had issues with unit [ TRAVIS Oct 27, 2015 ]
No real trick, just needs a little push to the left I believe. It should not need too much force, but it is in there good. I do not really remove mine, but when I have, it feels like I'm going to break it also, but I don't. [ Dempsey Apr 08, 2015 ]
Sure not a problem, when the face flips down don't worry about breaking it. It was designed to be pulled right off simply by pushing to left or right and then pulling it straight out. If you want you can test it by pushing on the holding pieces out to the side and you can see how it's designed to move side to side for removal. Hope this helps. [ ERICK Apr 01, 2015 ]
Yes, grasp the faceplate and slide slightly left or right (can't remember) and pull the opposite end out. If I recall correctly, you kind of use the same actions to put it back in. My memory lapse is due to the fact that this stereo is in a car that has been out of use for a while. Good luck! [ JIM Mar 31, 2015 ]
5 answers I just installed this unit and using with iPhone connected via USB & Bluetooth. When using any source aside from USB/Bluetooth (ie Aux In or FM) and using a GPS app on my phone (ie Google Maps or Waze), sometimes the JVC will auto mute the Aux or FM audio and inject the mapping directions and then come back to the source audio again. I like this but it's not consistent. Sometimes it works fine for a whole trip and other times not at all. I don't know what I am doing differently to make it work like this. Does anyone know? [ Chris Mar 30, 2015 ]
Hi Chris, Because the GPS on your phone works like a phone call to the JVC unit, it may have something to do with the settings on the JVC unit for "answering" calls. Maybe if you change the settings either on your phone or the head units phone settings, it may be more consistent. I haven't had the issue on mine since I leave my source as Bluetooth when using Google Maps and play music from my phone's music library. Hope it works out for you. [ David Apr 02, 2015 ]
It may be that you've lost the internet connection which would be a function of the phone and not the unit. [ ROBERT H Apr 01, 2015 ]
I installed this in my wife's vehicle so really don't use it. But it could be an issue with the app itself. There's times when I use Google maps with my Bluetooth headset while listening to music and every once in a while I'll get the same issue. [ john Apr 01, 2015 ]
I have found that there are times when my phone is the issue and not the unit. Either on the settings for GPS the voice option was turned off or the volume level for the GPS voice was turned down. I use a HTC M8. Hopefully that is all it is. It is weird how different things on the phone will change itself volume wise with different apps. [ Bryan Apr 01, 2015 ]

4 answers I can see that the face has to move to insert a cd into this unit. Has anyone had any trouble with the moving parts associated with this? I've got a Sony that makes terrible noises when opening and closing and sometimes has to be "helped" by nudging the face. I've actually stopped using the cd player on the Sony. [ Bob Mar 29, 2015 ]
I have had no issue with the fold out face. It's quiet and works perfectly. [ COLIN Oct 27, 2015 ]
Bob, I can say that my JVC unit opens and closes soft and smooth. I had a Sony before I bought the JVC and agree that the Sony didn't open and close smoothly. Sony had poor mechanisms in the model I bought. [ David Apr 02, 2015 ]
I have been using my set for two years and love the blue tooth cellular and link to my Iphone. I am embarrassed to say that I have never used the CD capability. I presume that if you had a problem with it that Crutchfield would refund or exchange for you? Regards, Bill [ William Mar 30, 2015 ]
I Really don't use the CD player at all but I can tell you that the build quality on this deck is fantastic. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it so I would be surprised if the CD player had issues. [ JUSTIN Mar 30, 2015 ]
Yes. Practically any tone of Amber or Orange. I have an older Porsche with Orange dash display and I wanted something that wouldn't look out of place. In addition to loads of features, the ability to set the display colors was why I chose this unit. I'm sure you'd be able to match other Euro display colors, like BMW, etc. [ JOHN Jan 22, 2015 ]
Yes, You can adjust to multiple hues of amber/orange [ P2 Jan 22, 2015 ]
Yes, I use the amber to match the displays on my BMW. [ William Jan 22, 2015 ]
Yes, it does. and also green & red. Rgrds. Roberto [ ROBERTO Jan 22, 2015 ]
Yes. It can display multiple colors [ JACKSON Jan 22, 2015 ]
Yup, almost any color. [ JULIO Jan 22, 2015 ]
We do not show this receiver as being satellite radio ready. [ Jeff Dec 15, 2014 ] Staff
Yes you can have the display red. And you can use Pandora on your Android [ Dempsey Jun 19, 2014 ]
Its a good radio the blutooth acts funny some tines but good unit does apple and andriod [ JASON Jun 16, 2014 ]
Yes all red or blue or green or what ever combo you like. I have not used Pandora in my car because I have Virgin Mobile and we get terrible cell tower coverage in So MD. [ STEVEN Jun 15, 2014 ]
Yes to both.It allows you can change both the display and button colors independently of each other as well. [ STEVEN Jun 15, 2014 ]
Josh, Yes, you can do both of those. Andrew [ Andrew Jun 15, 2014 ]
It will display all red, will play pandora, but have to use phone controls and play over bluetooth. Hope this helps. [ SCOTT Jun 15, 2014 ]
I have this radio. I dont think so JIm. It will either switch to night time or day time color. For the price its a really great radio. Looks a little plain in person but I love the sound quality and features. [ GREG May 31, 2014 ]
Nope. There's no variability from the dash dimmer, but you can change the brightness and color to something less offensive in the nighttime dim settings. [ GEARL May 31, 2014 ]
only if you can wire it directly to the dimmer/rheostat. [ EDWARD May 31, 2014 ]
Have not tried that specifically, but have used my vehicle dimmer, and noticed no difference in the head unit illumination. Doesn't mean it's not possible though. [ JIM May 31, 2014 ]
