Our take on the JVC KD-HDR44

JVC's KD-HDR44 CD receiver brings the crisp, clear sound quality of HD Radio™ to your dash. Its built-in HD Radio tuner lets you tune in digital AM/FM broadcasts — you'll enjoy FM radio that sounds almost as good as a CD, while AM stations sound like traditional FM. And many HD Radio stations offer additional programming on their frequency band that you can't hear with a regular AM/FM radio tuner.

Two auxiliary inputs
JVC gives you auxiliary inputs on both the front and back of the receiver, giving you more options for playing your tunes. For example, you can hook up a more permanent source, like a Dock & Play satellite radio, to the rear input, while leaving the convenient front input for connecting your iPod® or another MP3 player. You can load up a CD with MP3 and WMA files, too — it's easy to fit several albums on a single disc.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered this radio back in December.. Didn't get it installed until January. Installed it myself and it went well without any problems. The radio sounds great thru the orig factory speakers in my van. I am happy with the quick reliable shipping I got from Crutchfield. The radio arrived in the time span I was told it would be. It was packaged well and arrived in A-1 shape. This is probably my fourth radio I have ordered from Crutchfield over the years. I don't even bother shopping anywhere else when it comes to replacing a stero in a car.

Pros: I can hook up external devices such as an MP3 player with ease. The display/ face of the radio is easy to understand and read.

sound on this radio is great. It is not however user friendly. The menu is complex and very difficult to master. JVC needs to correct this because the unit itself is a good value.

    Pros: looks and sounds great

    Cons: Menu much too complex

Instructions were very easy to follow and very easy to install. Took me less than an hour to get the Radio installed and the dash put back together.

Pros: Sleek look, easy to install, great sound quality. Be sure to pay the extra $$ to get the dash kit, fits perfect in our Honda CRV.

Cons: If you try to dim the radio's text display window it doesn't dim the outside blue lighting on the radio. AM radio reception is not very good but expected based on price.

Gift from sister to husband (brother in law) Great value/build quality from JVC; clean detachable face, great features. This was a great upgrade from factory stereo from 92 Chevy Pickup for him.

Pros: Better than factory; good sound; great value.

Cons: A bit cumbersome to figure some settings- Manual helps some.

I was looking for a relatively simple factory replacement in order to add an auxiliary input for my iPod. this head unit does more than that. the HD radio is an enormous bonus at the price point, and so far the functions have intuitive enough that I haven't had to breakout the manual. if you're looking for an inexpensive upgrade to your factory system, this is a great choice.

Pros: user friendly, HD radio, great value

Cons: no illumination options, but that's no surprise at the price point

I was just looking from a head unit that would play mp3 cds and the local radio. I didn't want to spend more than $100 as it was going in a beater work transportation vehicle. I couldn't be more impressed. Does much more than I need. HD radio built! Its amazing I couldn't believe the difference, a must have! My only gripe is the screen is hard to read during the day and its pretty blocky but that's it. Sounds as good as the alpine unit i have in another car!

Pros: Built in HD radio! Amazing sound quality!

Cons: Cheap screen. But it is cheap.

Great little radio reciever,CD player. Had a little problem getting the right parts, but it was taken care of with a quick call ,and a very helpful Rep. . I put it in a1990 GMC Serria, it was loaded ,so it had more stuff under the dash. If I had to do it over again,I would get it installed.

Pros: Sounds great looks good easy to use, better then factory.

Cons: Installing is harder then you think it would be.

Installed into a '96 Camry with a half-up antenna-didn't connect the remote so the antenna doesn't go up and down when turned on and off - offers better reception than previous JVC. I was reluctant with HD but it surprised with good reception and sound. I use the front aux a lot with iPod so that's always a requisite. Definitely a recommend from me.

Pros: Good reception, sound, ease of use!!!

Cons: None. Only if it doesn't last at least 5-7 years like my previous one.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sounds great and easy to use. Pretty easy to install using the supplied directions and wiring harness. Maybe I didn't read closely enough, but there is some soldering involved. Nothing complicated, but you will likely need a soldering gun to wire the unit to the adapter. Not hard and once it's done, you simply plug it into the factory harness.

Pros: Great sound. Easy to use. Looks good. The remote is a handy feature I didn't think I would use, but actually love.

Cons: Face plate isn't the easiest to remove, but it might get better with use. The volume knob is smooth and not easy to grip.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very happy with this bargain-priced but full-featured unit. Very good sound quality for the money. Like the way the dimmer ties to your headlights the display tones down as soon as you turn on your lights. The menu system is unduly complicated and makes simple changes like slight adjustment in the bass nearly impossible. You're forced to use the EQ button for any quick changes, which works fine for my daughter. Wish the annoying "demo" feature was not the default setting. You have to actively turn this off and if the vehicle lose battery power for any reason, the demo setting will come back on. I fully expect my daughter to come back from college at some point with this annoyance running again because she had to jump her car or replace the battery. C''mon JVC, who in the world wants or needs this feature? And it's the number 1 item on the menu, a placement that should be for the most essential items. For those who want to tie this unit to an amp or subwoofers, the unit has a tremendous amount of flexibility.

Pros: Clean power. HD tuner. Auxiliary input.

Cons: Unduly complex menus. Need to turn off odd demo feature useful only in car stereo showrooms.

This JVC receiver is one of the best! With it's good built in amplifier I didn't need to go out and by new speakers! It gave my speakers the bump they needed (although you could buy an external amp as well). The features are really accessible and easy to navigate through. And HD radio is amazing!!! It is very clear and sounds like a CD!!

Pros: Availiable Bluetooth. Built in amp. Good sound. HD radio for most popular radio stations. Detatchable faceplate. Great illumination.

Great replacement radio for a stock 2004 Toyota Sienna radio that had issues with the CD player. I wanted a replacement radio that had built in HD Radio and this had it for the right price. My only regret is that I did not spend the extra money for the next model that had the steering wheel control.

Pros: HD Radio built in, no addition tuner required.

Cons: Display hard to read in daylight and the menu can be challenging without reading the manual.

    Great Sound Easy Install

Hughes R from Wisconsin on 7/12/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Simple unit to install. Sounds great depending on the quality of speakers you match with this unit. Plenty of power for the average car user, even teenagers who like the volume a bit louder. Has a lot of fine tune features whether you have four - six speakers or include a sub-woofer or even an amp. Not sure that I will use the remote too much from the driver side, but the passenger side could certainly use it for ease of controlling its features. A great value for $79. Kudos to Crutchfield for doing their homework and assisting the buyer with a quick and easy install!

Pros: Looks and appearance combined with ease of use.

    Cons: Non at this time

I got it for my mother's Honda Accord 2007 LX. It is not an high-end stereo but definitely does more than what you pay for.

Pros: - Great value - Great sound quality

Cons: - The buttons are too small (Perhaps I need glasses) - HD radio doesn't sound much different from a regular FM channel - The remote only works when you point it right in front of the stereo.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The receiver was easy to install. Crutchfield provide all of the necessary wiring and mounts. After just a few minutes of soldering the correct wires, it was ready to go into my car. Although the front decorative covers couldn't fit due to my trim, they do provide 3 sizes for the extra compartment. Still looks good without it. I am impressed with the quality of sound that HD radio and my AUX produce from my 50-70 dollar aftermarket speakers. Crystal clear and loud as hell. I would readily recommend this to anyone who can deal with the interface which has a few hard button shortcuts to navigate more easily but can be a handful when you're driving. Sometimes I have to go through 2-4 menus to find what I want to change but that doesn't happen so often. Summary: Looks great, sounds great, great value, a little lacking in intuitiveness of use.

Pros: Value Sound Quality Looks great

    Cons: Ease of Use

I purchased the JVC KD HDR44 radio to replace the old stock factory radio for a 1995 Buick LeSabre that I inherited when my mom passed away. I am really impressed with that JVC stereo. I'm now able to play all of my favorite music when I use that old car! It was easy to install thanks to the instructions that were provided. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this receiver as a cheap replacement for a stock stereo in a '91 BMW 535i. Installation required a bit of rewiring, but that was due to the unusual setup of BMW's stock system. The stereo sounds great, especially for a receiver at this price point. No complaints there. As for drawbacks, the user interface is awful. Simple adjustments like fade, balance, bass, treble, etc. require you to dig down into a multilevel menu. For a car stereo, I view this as a design flaw. It just isn't possible to safely make these adjustments while driving. In my opinion, things like fade and balance should be set up so that the driver can change them without looking down. With this receiver, you have to hold the menu button, scroll through a ton of options until you find the setting you want to change, then press another button, scroll some more, press another button, scroll to change the setting, acknowledge, and finally hit back three times to get back to the main display. All of that legwork might not be a big deal if you don't change anything once you have the receiver optimized to your liking. However, this problem becomes a huge pain when it comes to bypassing the next "con" of this receiver: the HD tuner. More on that below in the "Cons" section.

Pros: - Sounds great - Inexpensive

Cons: - Awful user interface - HD tuner cannot be disabled... I live in a town with very poor HD coverage. Because of the poor coverage, the radio is constantly switching between HD and analog, resulting in echoing. This wouldn't be a big deal if you could disable the HD tuner, but you can't. You can only disable HD temporarily, and when you change stations, it turns back on. You have to go through the same 10-step process I decribed above to turn HD off again - impossible to do while driving.

Had to replace an old F-150 radio, and wanted to stay inexpensive. Read the reviews on this JVC Receiver (KD-HDR44) and took a shot. $79,00!! $94.00 with the dash kit and connector. Crutchfield has it down pat with the instructions. This HD radio sounds AWESOME in my truck and I could not be happier. Brings the old speakers to a place they have never been. Follow the instructions, and wire diagrams and it's a piece of cake.

Pros: Sounds awesome, great looks, detaching face, HD, CD, Aux MP3 jack, what more do I need? Picks up great HD in the DC area.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not Happy. After five months the radio portion has become non operative. It Dont Work. When new, this head unit worked fine. The digital radio is not impressive. The digital signal can sometimes cut in and out and swith back to analog. At this time both signals are active and this produces an echo for 10 or 20 seconds. My impression now that it is non-operative is that I purchesed a realy cheap piece of junk. Every review is from the first week of ownership, lets see what happens after a few months of use. This unit will last like a used plastic supermarket bag.

    Pros: Not well made

Cons: cheaply made, will not last very long.

    JVC KD-HDR44 CD receiver

CYJAK from Los Alamos, NM on 3/9/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just needed to replace 20 year old OEM cassette radio in my backup car. Decided I didn't need all kinds of bells and whistles but wanted to try HD radio but didn't need blue tooth. Was pleasantly surprised at the value and quality. The only hard part was using the JVC manual. In trying to dumb down the manual I had a lot of trouble understanding the pictorials. Maybe it was more that the manual was only 5x7 and thus the point size of text was I guess 6 pt. The face plate is shown on page 6 but pages 3 and 4 assume you know the controls and functions of the various controls.

Pros: Crutchfield support. I had some trouble understanding the pictorials in the manual. The tech was very helpful in getting me to understand the pictorials and how to get the radio display out of the DEMO mode.

Cons: JVC should add a page in the manual that describes the pictorials used in their manual. Show the symbol and describe what the pictorial means. Pages are small and thus the pictorials left me guessing what I was looking at. A flow chart might have been better to illustrate functions or menu items and how to adjust. Instead the manual to a continuous sentence describing the process. Since the control panel is already attached JVC might describe the detach/attach rather than attach/detach of panel

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

    A good value

Pros: Generally works as advertised. Certainly sounds better than the original Chrysler AM/FM/CD. Plus, it has HD radio, which makes FM, and especially AM, sound bett

Cons: Display in daylight is poor. I've turned it all the way up and it is still very difficult to see. The blue LED's around the muti-function knob are plenty bright enough, but the alphanumeric display is not. Pushing and holding the "DISP" button is supposed to give a one-time display of Artist/Title, but I can't get this function to work on FM-HD.

The AM and FM reception is half that of factory installed bottom of the line GMC radio. HD radio is useless without a radio station next to car, just long pauses at unit attempts to locate HD signal. Worse the audio will not fade to rear and is locked on front factory speaker and sound "ratty" Basically wasted my money

    Pros: inexpensive

Cons: Volume and mute button on same control causes unit to mute when I want to change volume Blue lighting around main controls is not adjustable causing problems driving at nite Audio quality poor compared to GM low end receiver it replaced

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this as an open box unit. Other than the box being closed back up, it appeared to be brand new. Included instructions were great, and everything installed just as it should. The headunit is fantastic. The HD part of the receiver works great and doesn't appear to have any issues "locking on" to digital stations. I didn't expect to use the remote at all, but I've found myself using it all the time. I've installed this in an F150 that requires that I lean up a bit to adjust the controls, so it makes changing stations a lot easier.

Pros: HD and analog reception is fantastic CD works as expected (although I'll almost never use it) AUX-IN works great. Remote is nice EQ modes are good, and can be very customized if you are patient I'm amazed that I paid so little (open box) for this head unit.

Cons: Included dash kit from Metra has a storage pocket on the bottom half. The top edge under the head unit bows down a bit. I wish the remote had a slightly larger angle of reception Menus and preset setting seem a bit convoluted at first

This is a very good receiver. Compare all the options this one has and nothing else comes close. I have two JVC HU's and the only thing I don't like is when you are in an area where HD signals are borderline it switches back and forth with a delay between the switch. You can lock it to analog only but it is several menus deep and not easy. I wish there was a button for this one function. Build quality is good, sound is good, price is awesome!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Probably would give this 4.5 stars IMHO, but I can't on the web page. Caught a price break, and it was well worth it to replace my factory radio in my 11 year old car. I have this unit coupled with the Monsoon system in a Pontiac Sunfire, and it has made the sound a lot crisper and clearer. The bass is way amplified over the factory head unit. The volume is better than the head unit. The equalizer provides a lot of room for adjustment. The sound is a complete upgrade, even without replacing the factory speakers. The HD radio sounds great when the reception isn't funky. The CD player is great. I can't really complain about the sound. I would recommend this product if you're looking to upgrade, but not looking to bust your wallet.

Pros: Unit has great sound...very clear. There is room for future improvements even if I switch it to another car. Front & rear aux ports. Easy to install. Nice little remote helps when navigating preset radio channels. HD radio reception is a plus. Removable faceplate. Good price.

Cons: Menus can be a little tricky, so read your manual carefully before operating. The radio presets were a little tricky at first. Some smaller buttons take getting used to. Auto dimming function doesn't work with my car...unless I was improperly advised on what wire to use. Daytime glare can make the display hard to read.

I just installed this unit in my '98 Civic. The adapter & wire harness supplied by CF is perfect! Looks excellent in the dash. The sound is awsome! Never knew HD sounded so good. You really can't go wrong for the price, can't wait to get the bluetooth adapter!!!

Pros: Sound, design, ease of install, features. Great radio!

Cons: readout a little hard to see in bright sun even at full brightness setting.

I have no major complaints about this stereo. Getting an HD radio for this price you can't expect too many other bells and whistles.

    Pros: Price, HD Radio

Cons: Clock does not display when unit is powered off. Buttons and functions not very intuitive. Cannot access FM presets 7-18 directly without scrolling through from 6.

Great sounding head unit. The 3 band EQ really lets you tune it to your preferred listening choice. Bought to put in my camper and fills it with sound perfectly.Another big plus is that I can hook up my wimpy sounding flat screen TV to it and get great sound.

Pros: Looks cool, sounds great dual aux. inputs -front & rear and cheap for what it is.

Cons: At least I find it to be a pain in the neck to program, and it displays the radio station is the call letters not the frequency numbers.OK if you're staying local but don't travel and try to remember that station you found and liked.

Great value for the $$. Sound quality is fine.Ease of use could be better. Seems like the most used buttons are the smallest ones on the front. Navigating the menus requires using the manual. One note: I was trying to random play a cd loaded with mp3s. The cd was not sectioned into folders. This unit would not correctly random play on the setting "all RND". On this setting, it would play 15 songs (out of 181) in the same order...over & over. To correctly play the cd randomly, you must use the setting "folder RND". Coolness factor?? To me, who cares.

    Pros: Price, plays mp3s

    Cons: menus not the friendliest

This stereo is a tremendous value. It has HD radio and very good sound quality. It installed easily and looks pretty good. It even has an optional blue tooth connection.

Pros: Price, sound quality, HD tuner, big volume knob

Cons: The rest of the buttons are small. Have to scroll through all sources to go from AM to FM. The buttons are small, easy to mis-hit. Semi-complicated getting to presets 7-18 on FM.

Good sounding unit with an easy to see clock. Little of a pain to set up but using the remote for standard operation was easy enough. Picks up radio stations very well and even found some hd ones that I didn't even know we had. Like how the lights dim with the vehicles automatic lights. Definately better than the factory unit.

Pros: Sound, clock, front input jack, and remote

Cons: Switching from fm1 to fm2 and fm3 is a pain, need a band button to simplify.

Pros: Low cost / large number of features. Relatively easy to use, quite customizable.

Cons: Sound is a little disappointing but might be caused by a) old factory speakers b) non-optimal EQ settings. We'll work on it...

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a decent receiver for the price. It performs well and is the cheapest available with all of the features I am looking for (HD Radio and front Aux input). Some complaints. I haven't had it for long but the radio preset buttons are getting hard to press already. Also, the HD radio gets flaky if the signal strength isn't good. Very often the receiver will switch back and forth between the standard and HD feeds, which is annoying because the HD feed has a significant delay. I have another model JVC in another car and it does the same thing. Overall a good unit; but I may try a different brand next time.

    Pros: Price, Features

Cons: Button feel, HD Radio functionality

What a great deal. This model has all the same features of the JVC stereo I bought a couple of years ago but about $60 less. The sound is really great, better than the previous model I had. Also, this has the best presets for EQ I've heard on any receiver before. HD radio sounds great too.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good radio with good reception on analogue FM stations. I needed a radio to compensate for the weak car antenna, and it seems to have done the trick. My only complaint is that sometimes it has trouble holding in HD stations; HD comes in clearer, but it's weaker than the analogue stations. Because I couldn't wire it into the car head light switch, the display brightness has to be adjusted every time with the knob depending on day or night which is a little annoying; you'd think you could just set the two and push a button to select between them. The Bluetooth adaptor works great and was easy to install. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the radio and the ease of installation.

Does the trick, though I don't like the way the presets work. You can only use the buttons for presets 1-6. For FM presets 7-18 you need to scroll through them. Another thing I don't like is that when changing the channel it displays the call letters instead of the frequency.

    Display Features

Detachable Face: The JVC KD-HDR44 features a detachable face to deter theft. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

LCD: The head unit features a 14-segment, one-line LCD with adjustable brightness and dimmer settings.

Brightness: The unit offers an adjustable display and button illumination brightness level (0-31) for day and nighttime driving.

Display/Button Illumination Dimmer: The display/button illumination dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display/button illumination is always dimmed), or Auto (display dims when 12-volts is applied to the orange/white illumination lead).

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KD-HDR44 utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior CD sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KD-HDR44 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KD-HDR44 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KD-HDR44 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-HDR44 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.

Pro EQ: The KD-HDR44 is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

    Tone Pro EQ
    Frequency Level Q
    Bass 60, 80, 100, 200 Hz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0
    Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 kHz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) 0.75, 1.0, 1.25
    Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 khz +/- 12 dB (-6 to +6) Fixed

Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can turn this feature on or off.

2.5V/4CH Preamp Output: The KD-HDR44 is equipped with two pair of 2.5V preamp outputs (Front, Rear/SW). You can set the Rear/SW preamp outputs for connecting a pair of full-range rear speakers (through an external amplifier) or for connecting a subwoofer (through an external amplifier). When set for rear speakers, the rear outputs operate with the unit's fader control. When set for subwoofer, the outputs are non-fading.

Built-in Crossovers: The JVC KD-HDR44 features a built-in high-pass filter for the unit's front & rear speakers and a low-pass filter for the unit's subwoofer output.

    • High-Pass Filter: You can activate a high-pass filter (fixed) for the unit's front & rear channels (speaker- or preamp-level), so low frequency signals are cut off from your system's front & rear speakers.
    • Low-Pass Filter: When the unit's Rear/SW preamp output is set to Subwoofer, you can set the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter at 55Hz, 85Hz, or 120Hz.

Subwoofer Level: When the unit's Rear/SW preamp output is set to Subwoofer, you can adjust the head unit's subwoofer level between 0 and 8.

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Radio Functions

DiAS II Digital Tuner: This model is equipped with JVC's Digital Intelligent Advanced Sensing tuner that is capable of receiving digital (HD Radio) and analog AM/FM stations.

Built-in HD Radio: With the built-in HD Radio tuner, you can receive digital AM/FM broadcasts from local stations where available. This new technology will significantly improve audio quality and reception, as well as include information such as artist name and song titles or traffic news, viewable on the receiver's display. HD Radio Technology will deliver high-quality digital sound. AM digital will have FM-like quality in stereo, while FM digital will have CD-like quality with static free and clear reception.

Note: Right now there are about 2,000 radio stations broadcasting using digital HD Radio technology in the U.S. To find HD Radio stations in your area, visit the HD Radio website (

Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting, it is possible to choose from up to 8 multicast programs (HD1 to HD8 and analog). There are also data programs for each program.

Display Information: AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. The built-in HD Radio tuner displays song title, artist and station information on the display of the JVC KD-HDR44.

Analog Broadcasts: In addition to HD AM/FM stations, the KD-HDR44 can also receive conventional analog AM/FM broadcasts.

Digital/Analog Tuning: You can setup the KD-HDR44 to search both analog and digital radio stations, only HD Radio stations, or only analog radio stations.

Digital/Analog Presets: You can set up to 18 FM and 6 AM digital/analog presets stations as presets (HD Radio multicast channels can also be preset). Presets can be set manually, or automatically using Strong-station Sequential Memory (SSM).

Mono Mode: If an analog FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive, you can manually switch the tuner to Mono operation.

IF Filter: You can also switch the analog tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity.

US/European Tuning: You can set the built-in AM/FM tuner between US standard and European tuning spacing.

    Disc Playback

Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio, CD-Text, and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs.

MP3/WMA Playback: The KD-HDR44 can play MP3 (8-320 kbps)/WMA files (8-192 kbps) that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo or Windows long file. Each disc can have a maximum of 8 folder hierarchies, 255 folders, and no more than a total of 512 files and/or folders on each disc. The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3 or WMA files.

Track/Folder List: The Track/Folder List displays a list of MP3/WMA folders and tracks on a loaded CD, so you can easily access your music. The Track/Folder List will also display the list of track titles on a CD Text disc. If the MP3/WMA disc contains a lot of tracks, you can fast search (+/-10 or +/-100) through the disc by turning the unit's control dial quickly.

Random/Repeat Modes: The JVC KD-HDR44 offers the following Repeat and Random playback modes for your audio CDs.

    • Repeat: Track Repeat (plays the current rack repeatedly), Folder Repeat (plays all tracks of the current folder repeatedly), Off (cancels repeat function
    • Random: Folder Random (plays al tacks of the current folder, then the tracks of the next folder in random), All Random (plays all tracks of the current disc at random), Off (cancels random function)

Disc Resume: If you change the source, playback also stops (without ejecting the disc). Next time you select CD for the playback source, the disc will start from where it has been stopped previously.

Off Insert/Eject: A CD disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback.

Disc Protection: If the ejected disc is not removed within 15 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it from dust. The source will change to CD, and the disc will begin playback, even if you have another source selected at the time.

Mounting: For proper disc playback you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.

    Aux Connection

Dual Auxiliary Inputs: A front-panel & rear-panel stereo minijack are provided to allow the connection of portable audio sources. Simply connect your portable digital music player to either the unit's front or rear auxiliary input, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system.

    Bluetooth/Remote Control

Optional Bluetooth: The unit's rear-panel auxiliary input can also be used to connect JVC's KS-BTA100 Bluetooth Adapter (105KSBTA10, sold separately). The KS-BTA100 gives you hands-free communication from your compatible Bluetooth mobile phone and wireless streaming audio from a Bluetooth enabled digital audio player. The optional JVC Bluetooth Adapter includes a super-sensitive microphone, an Answer/End button, and playback controls. The KD-HDR44 can be set to automatically mute any music audio to your vehicle's speakers so you can listen to your telephone call using your car speakers.

Wireless Remote Control: The KD-HDR44 comes supplied with a wireless remote control (RM-RK52). The remote contains Power, Attenuator, Sound, Source, Track, and Volume functions. The remote operates off of a single CR2025 3V Lithium-cell battery (included).
