If you love local radio, don't miss this one — JVC's KD-HDR70 CD receiver taps into the awesome digital AM/FM sound quality of HD Radio™. Its built-in tuner lets you explore what HD Radio has to offer, including the alternate programming offered by many stations. And here's another cool feature on this JVC — the variable-color display lets you dial in just the right hue to match your dash lighting. You can even set one color for the main display while setting another for the buttons and controls. It's up to you!
Control your iPod®, plus tag the tunes you like
Once you plug your iPod or iPhone® into the receiver's front-panel USB slot, you'll blaze through your songs and playlists with the KD-HDR70's controls. You can also switch control to the iPod itself so a passenger can DJ. Either way, all song and artist info will show up on the receiver's 2-line display.
When your iPod's connected, just tune in to an HD Radio station to take advantage of the tagging feature — "tag" a song you like, and you'll be prompted to buy it from the iTunes® store the next time you connect your iPod to the computer.
More ways to play your music
This versatile stereo will handle all your CDs and recordable discs, as well as discs or or thumb drives you've loaded with MP3 and WMA files. You'll find two auxiliary inputs so, for example, you could plug a game console into the front input and permanently install a satellite radio dock on the rear input. Why risk your life talking on your phone while you're driving? You can add JVC's Bluetooth® adapter and conduct your phone conversations with both hands on the wheel.
It all starts with the sound
JVC's built-in amplifier gives you plenty of clean volume without distortion. You'll appreciate the extra flexibility that the 3-band parametric equalizer offers for dialing in the right sound for your vehicle.
Looking to add bass?
Three sets of 2.5-volt preamp outputs lets you add amps and subs to your system. The subwoofer output features a selectable low-pass filter, and you can add just the right amount of bass with the subwoofer level control.
Want to keep your steering wheel controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.
iPod note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

Great Product, will make me buy JVC again.
This is the most infuriating radio I have ever used. The buttons are too small, and set too close together. I try to change a preset channel, and with a bump in the road I,m pushing an unknown button and it has reverted to the DEMO mode. Flashing various colors and doing I don't know what on the info scroll. I am so frustrated with this unit I have given up on trying to reset the clock, since it changes every time it goes to the DEMO mode once again.
Pros: Digital radio
Cons: Small buttons too close together
Everything I was looking for for a great price. the 7 mode equalizer is nice and an upgrade over my last. The multiple color options are also great fun!
After 18 months of good service it does not recognizes my iPhone when I plug it in via USB cable, I tried other iPhones, Ipods and even a iPad, same result. Maybe mine was a fluke, I own two of these units the other one is still going strong.
Pros: Value, features and options.
I've been blaring music out of this thing for a while now, and I gotta tell you, I'd buy one for every vehicle my family has. The amp and all the EQ controls ensure you can tune the sound to your speakers, which are the only limiting factor with the .10% THD this amp puts out. There is also a built in low pass filter for a sub, and high pass filter for the component speakers. It also looks sleek and modern, and the color combinations are almost endless (just turn the demo off). Also, the volume is controlled by a knob, so it's easy to turn it down at stoplights. There's also a nice remote. Crutchfield installation gear made it oh so easy (I soldered the wire connections, but wire nuts work fine). This is a receiver off of which a system can be built, with the three RCA outputs. Also, with two aux input spots, and a USB cable, the HD Radio is basically unneeded, but still a nice thing to have (although where I live there really isn't much HD radio worth listening to.
Pros: .10% THD, Audio controls abound, Three sets of RCA outputs, looks cool
Cons: Radio Preset switching done with up and down arrows, not numbered buttons
Another fine JVC radio. The units sound quality is great with many options. Only problem being those options aren't immediately available with one button click. Particularly, changing presets can take 2 or more button presses. That isn't a drawback, but something to consider when you've been spoiled with one press on other stereos. Sadly, it is only compatible through USB with Apple products. Too bad if you have the ill fated zune or another product. You'll have to stick with the AUX out.
Pros: Numerous Presets Not hard to learn stereo navigation Great sound quality through all the stereos audio sources
Cons: Hard to see in direct sunlight. Changing presets takes more than one button click & takes some getting used to
Great sound quality, made factory speakers sound like the premium factory option
Pros: Easy 2 use & navigate thru display & setup options. Like the multiple subwoofer setting options. Would have given it 5 stars for coolness but its a pretty simple unit, hence the reason I bought it.
Cons: No usb in back. Knew that when I bought it though
I was greatly impressed with the sound quality from the head unit. I download my music using the Apple "lossless" mode at the suggestion on Crutchfield and it seems to make a difference. Overall I am happy with the unit.
Pros: Sound quality, various colors, multiple rear input sources
Cons: No readily come to mind.
Its a Solid radio. All the colors are cool and it had good quality. Great for the price the HD switchs from analog to Hd smoothly and everything is right there.
Pros: Diffrent colors.Big screen
Cons: It's a little hard to navigate untill you get used to it. And I big problem the sub preamp is at an extremly low volume Espically compared to the front and rear ports. I have a very solid amp and everything is cranked on the stereo and it can barely be heard above the treble of all the other speakers.
Features were what I expected. Everything that is optional is so hard to get to the choice you want. If you decide to change something, you have to redo everything. There is no way to change just one radio station, for example. You have to reset them all, plus all the color selections you may have made along the way. I gave it a 3 star, because of the UN-ease of use factor.
Pros: Great sound.
Cons: Really poor instruction manual, as far as how to use the actual unit.
I LOVE the option to change the collors to match the other lights in my car. love this deck.
Pros: its cool
Cons: i couldnt buy it when i was a teen.
Great product. Fairly easy to use when you get the hang of it. HD radio works well.
GREAT unit, easy to install, LOADED with features. I listen to one radio station mostly, so the lack of preset buttons means nothing to me - the 18 presets with the menu and knob work fine. This deck SHINES when you start adding amps, with 6 preamp outs (front, rear and SW), built in crossovers and EQ, it does more that you can ask for the money spent. Wife loved it, got one for her; guy at work liked it so much - he got one; a friend is in the process. That should tell you something! 5 stars on everything but ease of use - I gave it a 4 due to the placement of the knob, otherwise it has very easy to use menu controls that are buried when not in use - VERY slick.
Pros: HD Radio, USB, Front and rear 3.5mm jack, BT expansion module, iPhone/iPod control, USB Charging, RDS, Color selection matches my dashboard perfectly, onboard crossovers, EQ, 6 preouts!
Cons: VERY Minor issue with knob placement - but not enough to worry about.
Great deck. It has done everything it is supposed to do flawlessly. The reason I gave it a 3 for Ease of Use is because when you are turning the dial you cannot see the display very well. If I were the engineers on this one I would have moved the dial to the far right.
Pros: Nice sound and great features.
Cons: Hard to see display when turning the dial.
nice deck I like the color option
Pros: hd radio
Cons: Like all hd decks no preset buttons but thats ok
I've been a JVC fan for many years and this unit doesn't do anything to change that. This JVC receiver is more than I could ask for. I'm not an Amplifier person and I get more than enough power from this unit. It was a replacement for the old factory cassette unit in my Lincoln Town. Thanks to Crutchfield for the free install kit as it saved me at least $100 over the local electronics stores for the same JVC receiver and install kits. The only thing that bugs me is the menu for the controls for the unit. It is a bit confusing but I guess it's because of all the options that are available for you to customize this unit to your personal taste. If I was looking today for a receiver knowing this about the unit, it would not stop me from buying this unit again. It's been in my car for about 2 months and I just Love It. I just hope I don't wear out my Front USB port, lol.
Pros: This JVC Receiver is loaded with just about every feature you might want in a stand alone unit. It has plenty of Power, Excellent Sound Quality, Built In HD and Front USB and Aux Jacks. It has features for Ipods, not important to me. A Great Value compatible to some higher priced units in this feature range.
Cons: It can be a bit challenging to set up the colors because of all the options. Not a deal breaker in my opinion. Remote is a bit limited in features.
this is not the easiest radio to operate, but the overall quality, features and sound are excellent!
I've had this unit for two months now. Although some of the functions that are buried in menus may be better suited to dedicated buttons (i.e. fade/balance/radio presets), I don't mind so much since it's infrequent that I need to adjust them. Installation was easy with the supplied installation instructions and wiring connectors. The unit sounds great and I really like the option of being able plug in my USB memory. Like many multi-funtion, customizable car stereos, there's a learning curve to get through to be able to navigate the menus and settings. Once you've adjusted all the settings the way you like it, you will have to set them again if you ever disconnect the battery or your battery goes dead. The display is smart looking and attractive, functions and setting options are expansive, and it's a terrific value.
Pros: Great sound, function, and appearance. Love the HD FM whenever I'm in range - the sound is so much more crisp and clear than its analog counterpart.
Cons: upper left buttons (power/source, display, eq) are small and close together, so a little tricky at first to select the right function.
Great product. The color display modification is a great feature and it should be implemented in other systems too. The sound quality is great, however the system does require referral to the manual to understand all the features.
Pros: Good sound quality Color modifying display USB in the front and back Good build quality
Cons: Cd player does make some noise when skipping tracks Complexity, requiring the manual for assistance.
I have owned this for almost a yr, and am replacing it. The issues of poor daytime visibility, and not being user friendly (no buttons) have done it in. Visibility and usability are more important than multiple color combinations, none of which are right...
Pros: HD radio. Lots of customization possible.
Cons: None of the multiple custom colors can you see in the daytime, and too bright at night. Also, no buttons for selecting radio stations.
I have had this unit for four months now and it's great. It's gotten me through a couple of long road trips. Surfing for HD radio in other cities is fun, and podcasts make the long drive times fly by.
Pros: I can finally hear podcasts in my car, music sounds excellent, and HD radio is all it's cracked up to be. Crutchfield's installation guide made taking apart my dashboard simple and guess free.
Cons: Yes, the display is hard to read in full sunlight, but so was the factory unit. I can't get any AM stations since I installed the unit, but since I rarely want to listen to it I haven't contacted technical support.
Well first of all I need to say that the Crutchfield team did a great job handling this sale from begining to end. I was quite indecisive as to which radio to get and they were very patient. Now onto the radio...I have to say it is guite the deal. A great radio! I installed it myself with little to NO difficulty. I did need to call in to tech support to figure out where the extra wire went to but even that wasn't a big deal and they answered my question correctly on the first try. You really can't go wrong with this radio. HD radio (HD platform isn't quite yet as great as it's cracked up to be), USB, SAT ready (Sirius plugged right into the back), variable color display (matched perfectly). It's all great! I do have one complaint and it truely is my oversight - there are no preset station buttons. How did I miss this?! I noticed this after it was all installed and I was programing the info. You have to scroll, rather push the up/down arrow buttons repeatedly and travel through each of the 18 preset stations to find the one you want to listen to. I figured no big deal, I'll get used to it. Well, I'm not used to it. VERY inconvenient! Not enough to uninstall and send it back, but still annoying!
Just installed this unit into my 2009 Honda Ridgeline and i love it. Nice features, and it make's my factory speakers sound better. Would recomend this unit to everyone.
Folks, Your unit was all that you said it was and more! As I read the manual and tried more functions, I was extremly pleased. Great functions, super sound!
Sound out is good. Equalizer settings limited but do the job as labeld in the menu. Too many features buried in menu driven selections that are accessed frequently - Fade and L/R for example. HD station drop out but unknown if location/distance is the problem. Easy to install with right hardware. Price is right.
First I'm an avid AM radio listener; second I'm an Electrical Engineer with 60+ years in my profession. I purchased a cherry 2004 Hyundai XG350L a few months ago. The factory radio's AM reception was terrible. I replaced the factory radio w/the JVC KD-HDR70 and installed a rear fender mounted power "stick" antenna to replace the poor performing rear window antenna. The receiver works flawlessly on both analog and digital reception (HD)... 20uV sensitivity on AM. Keep the factory RF amp located behind the right-hand pillar cover next to the rear window in the RF circuit (you'll need to fabricate an adapter). This is a fantastic receiver in all aspects!
Sound quality amazing. Great head unit for the price. I ran 2 infinity dash speakers and 2 pioneer 6x9's behind the seat in my El Camino and there is no need for an amp. I like quality of sound at a volume that can compensate for my custom exhaust rumble, this unit does that. Use is simple once you get accustom to having limited buttons. (no presets). HD is great but can take some time to track signals. Makes for a great night at the drive in, my home theater doesn't come close to the clarity of HD when tuning into the drive in station. I'm putting one in my silverado I like it so much.
This deck has lots of features but as some reviewers have noted you have to know where they are. A quick look at the owners manual can save you much time and frustration. The multi color display is very nice - I was able to easily match it to the dash lights on my 98 Dodge Ram and it looks great. The free installation gear from Crutchfield made it a breeze. It really brought to life the new Pioneer speakers that I also bought from Crutchfield. This deck and Crutchfield are both top notch.
Crutchfield has put together a great package. I called Kramer and he gave me some great recommendation and this was one. I was looking at this unit because it has lots of options and JVC makes a good product. The unit takes some getting use to navigating but 20 mins and I had it down. The sound quality is also great. The kit had everything, I did not need to go out and find anything it was all there. The instructions where great and very clear. For the price it can't be beat. I received everything in less then 24 hrs. Very happy. Chris G
It's a great unit for the money, dual aux inputs and with a decent amount of power. Unfortunately it's hidden behind a rather awkward interface. I don't mind the lack of preset butons that much (tap menu and use the dial to select) but the bigger problem is that the commonly-used buttons (power/source, fwd/rew/etc) are tiny and easy to miss when you're trying to keep your eyes on the road. Another mis-feature is that the unit lets you select custom lighting colors, and seems to let you pick different colors for night and day, but when you change the night color it also changes the day color. Oops. A bigger problem is that at night, if the radio is off, there is *no* illumination of the unit's buttons at all, not even the eject and (more importantly) the power buttons. But putting aside those problems, it sounds good, the HD radio features work as advertised, and playing from USB sticks works great, if a little slow on the scan.
First let me say that Crutchfield supplied everything needed for the installation and great instructions. Ok The JVC-HDR70 was exactly what I wanted but didnt deliver everything. I had te radio for about a month now so I can give a good insight. The radio is awesome. Alot of colors to adapt to anyones interior lighting. I did not know that the Usb connection delivers better sound than the Aux connection. The HD Radio feature is great only if it works. Maybe it could be my car. (altima) The Signal is not great and the Hd works on and off. You get some more stations but between the Linking and on and off, its not worth listening to the radio sometimes. Besides that I love the radio I just now would perfer the Jvc with 2 Usb's.
Good sounding radio, but with poor user interface. Buttons are too small and moving around the menu is clunky. Making a preset change while moving is dangerous. can't feel your way through the buttons. Ended up giving the radio away and returning to stock.
The lack of preset station buttons makes this a very cumbersome radio to operate when driving down the highway. Sounds great, but too much fiddling to change stations. I'd never get a radio without buttons again.
This radio is pretty decent. I think that some of the pros are that it works well for an HD radio, the sound quality is great and it has a lot of options. What I don't like are the lack of numbered presets to quickly go to your favorites. Programming it is a pain. When playing mp3's directly from a usb drive, there is a delay in displaying the id3 tag info.
A had a JVC HD tuner connected to my stock radio, and it sounded good with a RF- FM interface. Now with this HD radio it sounds great !. I would have given it a 5 star rating if the radio had a dedicated connector for the Bluetooth cellphone kit, instead of having to patch the wires to the harness. It's a JVC to JVC device match, you should be able to just plug in the phone kit at any time, even after the radio was installed. Otherwise is a great sounding radio.
This is a fantastic radio, I love the HD, can't believe I ever paid for Satelllite Radio before this. My stock car speakers(Toyota Rav4) have never sounded better, I don't even think I need to replace them. I can't imagine how good this would sound with new speakers, maybe someday I will, but no need right now. Best upgrade I ever made and I have installed four receivers from Crutchfield. Love the HD Radio, you can preset HD stations with this radio. Haven't used the USB or IPOD yet, but I am sure I will. The display takes some manipulating, but I will figure it out eventually and get the right color, brightness, etc. As usual, Crutchfield was great, helping this techno-idiot through the installation. If I can do it, anyone can.
I love everything about this unit, it took me a while to figure out how to convert my Apple Mp4's to Mp3's using apple tunes but I was able to do it and the Mp3 discs play great, futhermore on this HU, even though it does not have preset buttons it is very easy to recall a preset, just pres menu and use the dial to skip though the presets, the nice thing about not having the preset buttons is that it allows the display to be bigger. And speaking of the display, I love it. you can have different colors for the buttons/display and you can even program for differnt color combos for night/day and it automatically adjust when the headlights are turned on. Another big plus on this unit is the auX port on the back, this allows you to hide the cable so it's not haning from the dash. one last note, I used a PAC SWI-Jack adapter with this unit and it worked great with my 2000 camaro, the programming order was a little different from the instructions but with some note taking and a reprogram it was easy to fix.
I purchased this unit to upgrade my stock head unit in my Mitsubishi Galant. My main gal was to be able to connect my Zune, and upgrade to HD radio. It has two mini jack ports one in front, one in the rear. I also appreciated the color options on the face plate, which can be changed and set to different colors from the button to the display area. After installation, we popped in a disc with MP3's on it, and it played very clear, very sharp on the bass notes. The different EQ settings make it a breeze to adjust from one style of music to the next, or leave it on 'Dynamic' and call it a day. HD radio tuned in great, and stayed tuned in fine while driving, never reverting to a lower digital signal. Once my presets were dialed in, changing stations was simple with an up and down arrow. If I feel really really lazy, I can adjust the music with the supplied key fob remote. The detachable face plate is a little bulkier than I like, due to the main control knob protruding about 1/2" above the thickness of the rest of the face. Makes it easier to control when attached, but adds to the bulk when carrying or storing it. The JVC has all the items I needed, and a couple I was surprised by. Most of the features are ones we're all used to; 18 presets, quick tuning, auxiliary ports, CD, etc. The colors and great sound were the items I was happiest with. Simple!
This is my 2nd JVC HD receiver. The first did not have USB inputs so I wanted to upgrade for our other car. The sound is great. The display is way too dim and cannot be read in bright light (i.e. during most of the day). You can adjust the color of the display segments and the brightness also, but nothing really helps. My only other comment is that the controls are fairly in-ergonomic: they could have done a much better job. Most buttons are very small, not well organized, and there is nothing intuitive about their operation.
I pondered forever on what unit to get, this Stereo Rocks! I get 3 times the stations than with my stock radio, and the HD quality is spot on. Its got a lot of power, next upgrade is my speakers to handle the stereo. Crutchfield service was super fast and easy. I highly recommend this stereo.
I like it a lot. I would prefer to have more buttons. It's a little confusing to try and find where things are.
This unit has great sound output and impressive functionality. I just wish the radio functions were either more standardized or easier to operate. Eighteen FM presets is too many. But my wife likes the pretty colors. All in all, very good, but not perfect.
The product has a good range of inputs, from CD, to XM to iPod and all of them work well. There's also an additional aux input for whatever you might want to add. Reception quality is good as is selectivity. HD-radio performance is so-so. It generates a lot of echoing in our area. The only thing I don't like is that the button control set is small and not easy to manipulate when tuning. The solution to this is to use the remote, which works well...but don't lose track of it. I wish it has preset buttons, but you don't get that in this class of radio.
I love this stereo. It was easy to install. It sounds great on my Subaru Forester stock speakers. The HD is clear! The iPhone hook-up works awesome. Everything I wanted. My only complaint is that it displays 'no text' if there is nothing being broadcast over the radio. You can change the display manually to show the station frequency but I wish it was smarter and did this automatically... I guess when everything works great you gripe about the small stuff... Definitely recommend buying this!
I really like this JVC receiver. I am glad that I chose a radio capable of HD reception. It was purchased to replace a radio that came with my 2004 Toyota Sienna and it works well with the existing speakers as well as the steering wheel controls. I was also able to link two headrest DVD players. I highly recommend this product. The service at Crutchfield was outstanding.
I have been into car audio for years now and know what it takes to get a system to sound just right. This CD player has great EQ bands allowing me to adjust the tone/sound/bass level to tone perfectly when i listen to Trivium and then on to Busta Rhymes. iPod USB works very well and love to use it. Finally an iPod adapter that charges your iPod as well. Simplicity is a great part of this unit as well. After reading the manual once, i could get everything out of this unit i needed. Pros: Price Simplicity Versatility Functions Sound Quality Multiple Pre amp outputs Con: Hard to see lighting on CD player during the day. But for the price of this unit i would not dare complain. Of all the units i tried and compared, this unit out-did every unit i came across. Very pleased to have this unit and would recommend it to anyone. (and have)
The best stereo i have had for the money! Excellent !
I initially bought this receiver because of the almost infinite amount of colors for the light-up display.. but all in all this receiver has responded well so far.. I'm not much of a audio techie, but the Pro EQ is def. a plus. It allows you to control the frequencies for Mid's, Low's and Treble with three settings each. I bought the PAC- SWI Jack and tried to wire it up to my DCI (dash control interface) but had no luck.. Hopefully i can find someone who can fix my error. I gave it four stars only because of the heat output. I can feel the heat escaping from behind the dashboard around my legs. I don't even have to turn on the heater sometimes. I'm not sure if that's normal. sorry if my review is not that helpful. this is the first receiver i have ever bought.
Amazing feature set. For a bit more you can get into the Arsenal line with the higher preamp voltages but this is an amazing unit. I miss having direct preset access buttons, no variable high pass filter, but really for the price have ZERO complaints. Extremely versatile and doesn't break the bank. Very happy with my purchase.
I needed to replace my stock unit so that I could plug my smart phone in directly. The sound quality is amazing, the features are great, i.e. Bluetooth, USB, MP3 compatibility. The fact the you have total control over the color is a superb bonus and all other manufacturers should take notice.
radio is great and fitsnice in my dash in my 88 silverado has like 29 different colors as a main screen and control colors only big complaint is setting your own equalizer setting but the presets are great to if your looking for something with a variety and to give your own twist to this radio will do the trick

Detachable Face: The JVC KD-HDR70 features a detachable face to deter theft. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.
Note: No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.
2-Line LCD: The head unit features a 12-segment, two-line LCD with adjustable color, brightness, and dimmer settings.
Variable Color LCD & Key Illumination: The JVC KD-R620 features 29 color presets for the LCD and button illumination. You can choose one of these color presets or select the ColorFlow mode which scrolls through all 29 color presets. Additionally, there is a User preset, allowing you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue from 0 to 31; resulting in approximately 30,000 custom color options. The chosen color preset or custom color can be applied to the display panel and the backlighting for all the buttons except the Display, Brightness, & Eject buttons (they remain red). You can choose to use the same color for the LCD display and button illumination, or use a separate color for each one. You can also select a different color for daytime and nighttime in regards to the unit's LCD and button illumination.
Brightness: The unit offers an adjustable display and button illumination brightness level (0-31) for day and nighttime driving.
Display/Button Illumination Dimmer: The display/button illumination dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display/button illumination is always dimmed), or Auto (display dims when 12-volts is applied to the orange/white illumination lead).
24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KD-HDR70 utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior CD sound quality.
MOSFET Amplifier: The KD-HDR70 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.
CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KD-HDR70 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KD-HDR70 are as follows:
Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-HDR70 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.
Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.
Pro EQ: The KD-HDR70 is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

2.5V/6CH Preamp Output: The KD-HDR70 is equipped with three pair of 2.5V preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The front & rear preamp outputs offer balance/fade control and are designed to hookup to a full-range 4-channel amplifier. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading and designed to hookup to a mono-block subwoofer amplifier.
Built-in Crossovers: The JVC KD-HDR70 features a built-in high-pass filter for the unit's front & rear speakers and a low-pass filter for the unit's subwoofer output.
Subwoofer Level: You can adjust the KD-HDR70's subwoofer level (0-8) independently from the head unit's main volume control for added bass volume.
Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.
Built-in HD Radio: With the built-in HD Radio tuner, you can receive digital AM/FM broadcasts from local stations where available. This new technology will significantly improve audio quality and reception, as well as include information such as artist name and song titles or traffic news, viewable on the receiver's display. HD Radio Technology will deliver high-quality digital sound. AM digital will have FM-like quality in stereo, while FM digital will have CD-like quality with static free and clear reception.
Note: Right now there are about 2,000 radio stations broadcasting using digital HD Radio technology in the U.S. To find HD Radio stations in your area, visit the HD Radio website (HDRadio.com).
Multicasting: In addition to conventional broadcasts, with HD Radio broadcasting, it is possible to choose from up to 8 multicast programs (HD1 to HD8 and analog). There are also data programs for each program.
Text Display: AM/FM digital stations can offer text and data such as artist names and song titles. The built-in HD Radio tuner displays song title, artist and station information on the display of the JVC KD-HDR70.
Analog Broadcasts: In addition to HD AM/FM stations, the KD-HDR70 can also receive conventional analog AM/FM broadcasts.
Digital/Analog Tuning: You can setup the KD-HDR70 to search both analog and digital radio stations, only HD Radio stations, or analog radio stations only.
Digital/Analog Presets: You can set up to 18 FM and 6 AM digital/analog presets stations as presets (HD Radio multicast channels can also be preset). Presets can be set manually or automatically, using Strong-station Sequential Memory (SSM).
Mono Mode: If an analog FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive, you can manually switch the tuner to Mono operation.
IF Filter: You can also switch the analog tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity.
US/European Tuning: You can set the built-in AM/FM tuner between US standard and European tuning spacing.
Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio, CD-Text, and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs.
MP3/WMA Playback: The KD-HDR70 can play MP3 (8-320 kbps)/WMA files (8-192 kbps) that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo or Windows long file. Each disc can have a maximum of 8 folder hierarchies, 255 folders, and no more than a total of 512 files and/or folders on each disc. The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3 or WMA files.
Track/Folder List: The Track/Folder List displays a list of MP3/WMA folders and tracks on a loaded CD, so you can easily access your music. The Track/Folder List will also display the list of track titles on a CD Text disc. If the MP3/WMA disc contains a lot of tracks, you can fast search (+/-10 or +/-100) through the disc by turning the unit's control dial quickly.
Random/Repeat Modes: The JVC KD-HDR70 offers the following Repeat and Random playback modes for your audio CDs.
Disc Resume: If you change the source, playback also stops (without ejecting the disc). Next time you select CD for the playback source, the disc will start from where it has been stopped previously.
Off Insert/Eject: A CD disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback.
Disc Protection: If the ejected disc is not removed within 15 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it from dust. The source will change to CD, and the disc will begin playback, even if you have another source selected at the time.
Mounting: For proper disc playback you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.
USB Port: The JVC KD-HDR70 features a front panel USB 2.0 type-A port behind a sliding cover for connection of a USB mass-storage class device. The USB port enables audio playback and control of MP3 (8-320 kbps)/WMA (8-192 kbps) audio files stored on a portable USB mass-storage class device formatted in FAT 12/16/32. The KD-HDR70 can recognize up to 255 folders (255 files per folder) and 65,025 total files. The unit also supports IDTag3 (version 1.0, 1.1, 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4) for album and artist information from MP3/WMA files (up to 60 characters).
Note: You cannot connect a USB device via a USB hub or Multi-Card Reader to this unit.
iPod/iPhone Direct: The JVC KD-HDR70's front-panel USB port also acts as an iPod/iPhone high-speed direct connection when used with the USB/iPod cable that came with your iPod/iPhone. An additional iPod cable is available (469USBPOD, sold separately) so you can leave one at home and one in the car. Using either cable allows audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of select iPod/iPhone models from the JVC in-dash head unit.
iPod/iPhone Audio Playback: The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's large music libraries to be loaded instantly to the JVC head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 98dB. The JVC KD-HDR70 supports audio playback of music files, podcasts, and apps stored on your iPod or iPhone.
iPod/iPhone Control: You can choose to control the iPod/iPhone from the head unit or from your iPod/iPhone's clickwheel or touchscreen.
Note: You can listen to apps stored on your iPod touch or iPhone through the JVC head unit when controlling the iPod/iPhone via its touchscreen (cannot access apps via head unit control mode).
iPod/iPhone Display: The KD-HDR70 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information, regardless of control mode. The head unit will display Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album label.
iTunes Tagging: Using the head unit's iTunes Tagging enabled HD Radio, you can tag your HD music (up to 60 songs) while listening to the radio with your iPod/iPhone connected. When you hear a song you enjoy on your local HD Radio station, you only have to press the head unit's "Tag" button and the song's information will be saved to your connected iPod/iPhone. The saved songs will then show up in a playlist called "Tagged" in iTunes the very next time you sync your iPod/iPhone to your PC. Then you just need to click, buy, and download the song you tagged directly from the Apple iTunes Music Store.
Note: iTunes 7.4 (or later version) is required to purchase tagged songs.
iPod/iPhone Charging: While connected and the ignition switch is set to ACC or ON, the head unit's USB connection will power and charge your iPod/iPhone.
Note: If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.
