Awesome with your phone

JVC KD-R780BT

Enjoy all your music with built-in Bluetooth connectivity and more.

Plenty of audio options

If you love music, you're really going to love this receiver. You can tune in to AM/FM radio, pop in a CD, or plug a portable music player into the front aux input. You can also plug many Android™ smartphone into the front-panel USB port, and control your music while you charge your phone.

The latest in Bluetooth tech

The KD-R780BT will pair with your Bluetooth-equipped phone automatically. When you're sharing the ride, this JVC enables you to pair two Bluetooth-equipped phones and quickly switch between them for hands-free calling and audio streaming. If you don't want to tie up your phone, many portable high-res players also offer Bluetooth, so they're perfect for wirelessly streaming your tunes.

Phone control

JVC's free "Remote" app gives you control over your receiver directly from your smartphone. You can scroll through your music, select tracks, change sources, and see artist and song information right on your phone, which is tons easier than waiting for the info to scroll across the radio's display.

Play anything better

In addition to discs, the KD-R780BT plays MP3, WAV, WMA, and 24-bit FLAC files, so your entire music collection can come along for the ride. Any file format will sound better with JVC's K2 technology, which spruces up the sound of overly compressed digital music with some clever processing. Once the music's going, you can tune your tunes to perfection with the 13-band graphic equalizer and use digital time alignment to make sure all the sounds get to your ears at the same time.

You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Still playing with all the adjustments. Love the red back lights for a change. Goes great with my red & black decor. Easy install with bracket & harness sent. HUGE improvement from Monsoon head in my 06 Vibe. Love the options available. Button are kind of small & fine tuning takes some getting used to but the sweet spot is amazing for a head unit at this price point. This unit seems to pair well with the RF 3 ways I bought to go with. Love Crutchfield. Staff is awesome. Site is easy to shop. FYI be sure to connect blue wire for power to factory amp. Other models are called out but not Vibe. There is no glare in person like pic shows.

Pros: Sweet unit. Easy install. Great price. Great features. Great sound quality. Nice BT ext mic.

Cons: Buttons small. Need Mac to download JVC music files to Android. Pandora app causes my phone display to only show JVC & Pandora logo. BT works great with Pandora & Spotify though.

    Prefect quality, amazing value!

    2010 Kia Soul
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This stereo is exactly what I needed, and exactly as it was advertised! Everything works great!!! The only thing that didn't work was that the call button in the stereo was not maintained on the steering wheel, but that's the adapters fault or just a limitation of the stereo, so not a big deal. I was actually able to wire the microphone line into the original mic line in my 2010 Kia Soul to maintain that functionality without the need of an external mic, so that was fantastic also! (I used a diagram online, that information was not supplied by Crutchfield) all in all the stereo had way more functionality than I need as I am not an audio professional, but it's many in depth EQ options would serve a knowledgeable person very well! I highly recommend this stereo, I couldn't have gotten a better deal!

Pros: Great sound Fantastic display settings Bluetooth works well Fantastic EQ customizability Matched the red display lights in the rest of the vehicle perfectly Fits well and fairly easy to install (I did have to call tech support, but they were very helpful and it was easy to see where I had made a mistake. I am still not sure whether my need for help was my fault or the fault of inadequate instructions, but overall not bad at all) Looks great!

Cons: Call button not maintained (I think it's because this stereo does not support an external call button, which is why I put it in the cons) but the stereo button is not too much of a hassle anyway.

Super CD receiver radio from JVC. Bought it on sale because my stereo on the van died and I need a replacement quick due to an impending roadtrip. It arrived in a couple days and set-up was a breeze. It took longer to take the old stereo out! Sound is amazing. And all the functions set-up really quick. It is such a good stereo that I'm getting one for my commuter car. Thanks Crutchfield.

Pros: for the price, you cannot beat the quality. And not many stereos out there with USB and blue tooth audio inputs. Which is key for our family. There are some new iPhones as well as some iPods floating around.

    Cons: Haven't found one yet.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This radio is outstanding for the price. I used to own an xc230 JVC but wanted more subwoofer settings and Bluetooth. After installing the radio a world of new settings we're opened up. All kinds of options are there for your audio and speakers. And the Bluetooth is flawless, literally connects and starts right up and it still shocks me when it does haha. The LEDs are really good on this radio, besides when on direct sunlight. The volume knob is nice feeling, with a SS finish. Fits perfect inside my 95 Camaro. And I have a 1300watt amp with 2 12' kickers hooked up to it and it stays cold! Best radio you'll ever find for the money.

Pros: Settings Bluetooth Screen quality Surround sound options RMS Overall price

Cons: Led buttons in direct sun Have a lock on bluetooth for one phone only

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an awesome receiver for the price! I make deliveries for my job, so my receiver's features are a big deal. The Bluetooth set up has solved about five problems in one shot. Although it has an auxiliary input, I have no need for it which means one less wire in the car! When I am getting near an address for a delivery, I need to pause my music or audio book, with one easy button, without it also pausing my GPS directions. It does! The microphone for hands-free phone calls picks up well even though I have it mounted down low. Although I don't use it, it does come with a remote. I bought the ReadyHarness and had the thing set up in no time! The whole set up cost me just under $100, but it's so useful that it feels like it's worth 3x that!

Pros: Bluetooth is amazing! Microphone picks up very well! Love the red display! Cheap!

Cons: Cannot change colors of unit or text. Does not display artist name and clock simultaneously; have to choose one or the other. IR remote has to be held up high for it to work.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good reasonably priced radio unit. The harness provided was an easy color match up and plug in. My power antenna went up for the first time in over 10 years. A little difficulty installing it at first as I used electrical tape. Spring for those little connector nuts. It's worth the couple of bucks for a real clean job. When I did it correctly, it worked fine.

Pros: Wire colors matched harness Radio plays nicely

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This JVC unit does exactly what a I wanted it to do. Bluetooth/Hands-free calling is a wonderful item, and makes talking on the phone while driving that much safer. Additional inputs of an auxiliary audio or USB on the front makes any type of media possible. You can also play Pandora or iHeartRadio from your phone bluetooth through the stereo as well. For my needs this was awesome! Just a single DIN unit and with the price from Crutchfield you can't get much better than this. If you have a need for more outputs to additional speakers you may need a different unit, but for basic replacement this does the trick.

Pros: Plays all the media I want it to. Bluetooth for hand-free calling or streaming music from phone/device to stereo. Easy to install. Low price!

Cons: If you use steering wheel controls (volume, next track, etc) you have to buy a separate accessory for that to continue working. I just have to change the track on the unit itself instead of from the steering wheel.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This radio functions well, but there are few issues. Crutchfield has been top notch with customer service and sent me another unit which i payed shipping on to attempt to fix the problems, but it is just a product flaw. The unit does not support iPhones, although you can use the hands free bluetooth feature.. The front display is totally unreadable in the daylight at any setting. I called customer support and they were a big help, and sent a replacement to try, which did not fix the problem.

    Pros: great sound looks nice

Cons: Display is unreadable in the daylight, does not support iPhone.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The first one I installed was dead in 2 days. However, the support team here is outstanding. Some of the most patient I have ever dealt with. After determining a replacement was the best route of action, I was quickly sent another and that has been working fine since. I mainly purchased this for the Bluetooth functionality to listen to music from my phone and it does that well enough. One thing I noticed on the replacement unit but not the original, however, is that my music will stutter every so often if my phone is connected to WiFi. I had not updated my phone at all in between the original unit and replacement so I am not sure the exact cause of the problem but it is easy enough for me to turn off WiFi (not used on the road regardless). Navigating the settings menus are pretty standard compared to other units I have dealt with and the "Loudness" setting works quite well to get better lows at lower volume. **Tip** For anyone trying to figure out how to get the display to keep the clock shown, you can change display screen configurations by pressing the settings button to cycle between 4(?) options. It took me a couple days to figure that out.

    Pros: Easy install

Cons: Volume knob not very tactile

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the JVC KD_R780BT stereo , bluetooth phone system and CD player for "Ruby" my 1990 Mazda, Miata whose radio was working intermittently then died. The new system works perfectly. I crank it up and drop the top and enjoy the music wherever I go. The option of the pre-wired cable harness was well worth the modest extra cost. I can't imagine working under the dash of such a small car trying to match the color of the old and new wires, then hoping the crimped connections were secure. I had a knowledgeable salesperson assist me in choosing this radio. I did call for technical support for a little handholding before I powered up. After reconnecting the battery the unit lit up and played perfectly. One part of the installation that did give me pause was the plastic mounting system. The system is made to be used with many radios. For "Ruby" I was instructed to break off several tabs I would not be using. I was reluctant to do this for fear of breaking the parts in the wrong places. I elected to saw off the tabs and then file them smooth, that worked for me. I for sure would deal with Crutchfield again.

Pros: Nice Stereo system replacement for my 27 year old car. Friendly knowledgeable staff, reasonable price

Cons: Breaking off unneeded tabs on plastic mounting system risks major breakage.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really wanted to give four stars but I can't. When playing music from a USB thumb drive random play just doesn't work. Every time I get in the car, it plays the exact same songs I heard the last time I was in the car. There is no way to turn off repeat in USB mode. The only choices are Track Repeat, Folder Repeat, and Repeat All. No matter which repeat mode you are in, random mode plays the same songs over and over. Other than that, I am pleased with this unit.

Pros: Easy to install. Sounds great.

Cons: Repeat in USB mode does not work.

Great product, works very well. Only issues were less than clear installation instructions as well as it interfering with other Bluetooth connections on occasion. Not sure if this is this products issue only though. Would definitely recommend purchasing!

Great receiver, Bluetooth is super easy to pair and the mic is great! Menus take a little getting use to but overall a lot of options for a receiver at this price point. I do have to say I am returning this receiver for a very similar model that actually has more pre amp outputs. This one only has one pair of outputs not much room for expanding.

    Pros:

Cons: only one pair of outputs

This is the fourth JVC stereo that I have bought for my various cars. Very easy to use the only downfall is I cannot get the clock to stay on the screen and in my 94 Pontiac Firebird I do not have another clock. But it keeps putting an EQ where the clock is other than that the radio works perfect

Bluetooth Technology: The JVC KD-R780BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 3.0, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile) & PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) & AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC KD-R780BT. Check here for the latest Bluetooth compatibility information.

Multi-Device Pairing w/ Dual Phone Connection: You can pair up to ten Bluetooth-enabled devices to the JVC head unit, with a maximum of two Bluetooth phones and one Bluetooth audio device connected at one time, making it easier to switch between devices. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the JVC KD-R780BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. And thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the KD-R780BT provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The controls of the KD-R780BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (with mounting bracket) featuring adjustable gain, so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering A Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the head unit's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call immediately or after 1-30 seconds. The KD-R780BT also supports the Call Waiting function, so you can answer another incoming call while suspending the current call you are on. Your compatible cell-phone must also support this feature.
    • Dialing A Number: Using the KD-R780BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
      • Enter Phone #: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's front-panel rotary dial.
      • Preset Dialing: You can store up to 6 contacts in the memory of this unit for speed dialing.
      • Phone Book: You can download phone book data from your mobile phone to the CD receiver. You can then dial a contact within the phonebook from the head unit's front-panel controls. Your phonebook can be searched alphabetically or numerically.
      • Call History: The Call History is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls.
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone once you have activated the voice dialing function from the head unit's front-panel.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The JVC KD-R780BT supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or audio player, plus song/artist information display. You are able to stream your stored music library on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, as well as music apps downloaded on your smartphone to the JVC KD-R780BT for playback.

    • Advanced Music Browsing: In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the KD-R780BT lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4 phones only; which includes Android 4.0+ and iPhone 5.0+).
    • Song/Artist Information: The head unit will also display your stored music and music app's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (not compatible with all apps).
Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

    Android & Aux Integration

Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0) Connectivity:  The JVC KD-R780BT's front-panel USB port lets you connect your AOA 2.0 compatible Android smartphone for music playback. JVC does not guarantee operation with all Android devices. Click here for the most current list of compatible Android smartphones. There are two Android AOA 2.0 modes to choose from based on what content you want to listen to and how you want to control it.

    • Hand Mode: The JVC KD-R780BT supports Android Open Accessory 2.0 (AOA 2.0), which lets  you connect your Android  (OS 4.1+) smartphone to the KD-R780BT's front-panel USB port and listen to stored music and music apps from your Android device through the JVC head unit. You'll be able to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. Other advanced music navigation will still be done from your Android smartphone's touchscreen. In this mode, the head unit will not display song/artist information; only "Audio Mode" will show up on display. You'll continue to view song/artist information from the Android device's touchscreen. You'll also still be able to access other functions and applications from your Android smartphone's touchscreen, while listening to music through the head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
    • JVC Music Play App: Downloading the JVC Music Play app onto your Android (OS 4.1+) smartphone not only allows you to listen to stored music from your Android device through the JVC CD receiver connected via USB, but it also lets you browse your Android smartphone's music library from the head unit's front-panel controls. You can browse your store music library by Playlist, Artist, Song, Album, or Genre. The contents of a Playlist or Category can be searched alphabetically or numerically. You can also control Play/Pause and Previous/Next track from the head unit. In addition, the head unit will display song/artist information. You can exit the JVC Music Play app to access other functions and applications of your Android smartphone, while your stored music library is still playing through your head unit. If you make a call or answer a call from your smartphone while listening to music in this mode, the music will pause until you are finished with the call and then start back up again.
Note: JVC does not guarantee operation with all Android devices.

USB Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1.5A of current to power and charge your connected Android smartphone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your Android smartphone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it).

The iHeartRadio music service provides access to more than 1,500 live radio stations from coast-to-coast (including pop, country, urban, rock, talk, and sports). The KD-R780BT will provide control over the iHeartRadio Auto app, as well as display station identification and song/artist information. From the head unit's front-panel controls, iHeartRadio stations can be searched by the following categories (Local, Genre, City, or My Stations). The Local selection provides a list of radio stations in your local listening area. The unit also provides over 22 Genres to choose from (including pop, country, hip-hop, jazz, etc.) to help you find the right radio station for you. In addition, you can search for radio stations by City. Cities can be searched alphabetically. You can even store your favorite stations (My Stations) for easier, quicker access.
Note: Access to these Internet Radio services will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your Android smartphone to connect to the Internet.

RDS AM/FM Tuner: The JVC KD-R780BT features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. You can store a total of 18 FM stations presets and 6 AM station presets. Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KD-R780BT utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The JVC KD-R780BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KD-R780BT are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Amp Gain: When you are using the KD-R780BT with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 25 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 35.

4V/2CH Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The KD-R780BT is equipped with one pair of 4V preamp outputs (Rear/SW). You can set the Rear/SW preamp outputs for connecting a pair of full-range rear speakers (through an external amplifier) or for connecting a subwoofer (through an external amplifier). When set for rear speakers, the rear outputs operate with the unit's fader control. When set for subwoofer, the outputs are non-fading and offer an independent level control (-50 to +10).
