Our take on the JVC KW-AV60BT

Bluetooth in your car is better than ever — especially when you team it up with a sweet, 6.1" touchscreen. Pair up JVC's KW-AV60BT DVD receiver and a compatible phone, and you'll be able to talk hands-free, place outgoing calls, and even get a heads up when someone sends you a text message. Plus, you can stream music from your phone or other Bluetooth device, including the audio from your favorite apps.

Bluetooth®, big and bold in your dash

Bluetooth in your car is better than ever — especially when you team it up with a sweet, 6.1" touchscreen. Pair up JVC's KW-AV60BT DVD receiver and a compatible phone, and you'll be able to talk hands-free, place outgoing calls, and even get a heads up when someone sends you a text message. Plus, you can stream music from your phone or other Bluetooth device, including the audio from your favorite apps.

JVC's KW-AV60BT DVD receiver

Basic app control for iPhone users

Speaking of apps, iPhone lovers are in for a treat. With your iPhone connected, you can view many popular apps on the KW-AV60BT's screen. You'll get basic control over audio apps like Mog and Tunein — basic functions like play/pause or track up/down. You can also view the info from Inrix traffic and other useful driving apps.

Play your Pandora® stations in the car

JVC makes it easy for you to take your Pandora stations on the road. Just plug in your iPhone® to the KW-AV60BT's rear USB input and you'll have touchscreen control over Pandora right in your dash. Plus you'll see artist and song info on the big display.

Powerful GPS app for iPhone

You can use your iPhone to put the most up-to-date maps available in your dash. Just download the MotionX-GPS Drive app, connect your iPhone with JVC's KS-U30 cable (not included), and you'll be able to see maps and live traffic reports on the KW-AV60BT's screen. You'll still need to access your iPhone, however, so it's a good idea to turn over control to a passenger, or consider adding an iPhone mount.

Unlike factory navigation systems, points of interest (POIs) are integrated with Wikipedia and Facebook, giving you more accurate search results than with preloaded navigation. Throw in live traffic and live map updates, and you'll have the most accurate navigation system on the planet. At 99 cents for the app, plus $19.99 for a year's subscription for voice guidance and live traffic, it's a fantastic value, too.

Great for your digital music

Once you plug your iPod or iPhone into the USB input, you can tap your way through all your tunes and playlist on this JVC's responsive touchscreen. If you're not an iPod user, you can load up a USB drive or a recordable disc with digital files — it's easy to fit hundreds of tracks on either one, and you can still dive in using the touchscreen.

— over 15 million songs, available instantly

MOG is an award-winning online music service with one of the largest and best-sounding streaming catalogs in the industry. It's the only service to offer all of its music in the 320 kbps MP3 format — that higher bit rate translates to better sound. In fact, we use it frequently in the Crutchfield Labs to test high-end audio gear. MOG's "Primo" service ($9.99/month) gives you unlimited, ad-free access to their extensive music library of over 15 million songs on a wide range of devices including Sonos® and Logitech® Squeezebox™ network music players, Samsung TVs, your computer, iPad®, iPhone®, and Android™ devices. Just pair your iPhone to this JVC receiver, and you can control the music and view artist/song info on the JVC's screen.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After 10 months, an error message popped up. Crutchfield customer service was great with walking me through the steps to test & reset. After multiple tries, still has error message. The radio has now been in the service center for two months. JVC has yet to call back. I have called numerous times only to get frustrated. Still no answer. Ready to scrap the unit. Will never buy JVC again.

    Pros: non now

    Cons: Doesn't work

Great unit for 2009 VW GTI

    2009 Volkswagen GTI
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got this unit a month ago from Crutchfield. First of I gotta say that Crutchfield's level of service is the best I ve ever experienced with any product or retailer,EVER. I've read about it in reviews before but this is the first time i bought from them and it impressed the heck out of me.They genuinely care about sending you the product that's right for you, unlike most retailers, that given the choice, would just sell you a unit that makes them most profit.I actually ordered a Sony XAV64BT receiver first cause i thought it was possible to view maps on its screen. When i called to verify, CS rep Dolly confirmed that maps wont work on that Sony and recommended this JVC unit. They not only refunded my Sony order but also paid to ship it back to them. Now off my soap box.... This JVC stereo is the absolute best deal for the money in terms of touchscreen resolution/picture quality, Pandora app and, most importantly, navigation (As long as you have any iPhone thats not an iPhone 5, you can purchase MotionX navigation app for $1.99 from the iTunes to get the basic map data on your dashboard). You ll need to buy a separate JVC cable for MotionX to display but its affordable, and aside from navigation, this cable will allow complete control of Pandora app, including thumbs up/down functionality from unit's touchscreen, so i highly recommend this cable for iPhone users, even if you don't plan on using maps. With separate PAC adaptors, VW wheel controls and BT work flawlessly in JVC

Pros: 1. with Crutchfield's adapter kit, n button colors control this JVC looks stock in my 2009 VW GTI. Its a + as i hate the aftermarket look. In terms of features, it surpasses VW's factory navigation system which costs $$$$ 2. Navigation thru MotionX iPhone app is even better in terms of accuracy and features than more expensive units with built-in preloaded maps. MotionX app costs $1.99, optional voice guidance is $10/year, enabling MotionX nav control thru JVC touchscreen is $24.99 (optional)

Cons: I ran out of space in Pros - so last Pro is you can still stream Pandora while MotionX navigation is on. Voice guidance can be muted, otherwise, the voice will lower the music volume when providing directions and when its done directing you the volume will return back to normal only con i can think of is that i believe it was supposed to be able to play all DVD formats, but i ve had trouble playing DVD+R in this thing(It couldnt get past DVD menu and just stop responding). DVD-R works fine th

Thanks again Crutchfield - The item shipped quick with all the need installation accessories. This unit sounds great is very easy to operate. The Bluetooth works well however you can expect a slight sound disortion. All and all I'm very please with this unit.

Pros: Easy to scroll through, Pretty good Bluetooth quality, Nice features

Cons: None as of yet - Only had for a week

Can't beat it for the price

I was looking for a double din unit, with a touch screen, that would show my iPod info and cover art. After doing some research , and reading other reviews, I decided to go with this unit for my 06 F-150. Glad I did. Good looking unit. Fairly easy to operate, and has very good sound quality. I'm an iPhone user, which is another reason I went with this radio. It's really designed to be used with apple devices. I really like the pandora feature. Just plug in your iPhone , and all controls ,info, and artwork show up on the screen. And no ads. Purchase the motion x app for .99 ,and it turns this unit into a gps. Works great, very cool. I purchased the optional cable, which you'll need to use motion x, and play videos and other apps from your phone. I also purchased the brake bypass. Easy hookup allows you to watch movies without hooking up to your parking brake. And I purchased the optional remote. Too many buttons, complicated, and only works for certain features. I really only use it for volume and to advance to the next song. Overall this is a great unit for the money, and I highly recommend it.

Pros: Removable face plate, pandora access, displays song info and artwork, physical volume knob, ease of use.

Cons: None that I can think of

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Had really high hopes for this unit. The BT sound quality for voice hands free calling (on receiving end) is apparently horrible. I have to hold the microphone in front of my mouth for anyone to hear me, even after adjusting the sensitivity. Compounding it is the weak reception across all bands. So much worse than the stock radio. Thinking of returning it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an an upgrade to a VW Jetta factory radio and is used with an IPhone 4s that I connect directly with the optional cable. I added the Sound Ordinance sub and a Pyle back-up camera (much cheaper). Installed it all myself and this cannot be done (in my opinion) without all the Crutchfield gadgets. The install kit really worked well. The music sounds great and the hands-free phone using Siri works quite well. I mounted the microphone on the steering wheel column and my callers hear me just fine. The fit and finish look good and I was able to customize the lighting to look nice with the rest of the car interior lights. Overall a great value.

Pros: Great value, nice display, easy to control.

    Cons: None yet.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a Pioneer since June and the bluetooth stopped working with the iOS 6 upgrade (I was also unhappy with its other poor characteristics). Crutchfield did me right and agreed to exchange it for this unit and I am very happy that I did. It installed easy and I performed the firmware update before starting it up. The bluetooth works perfect as well as everything else. This unit is much better than what I had before in all areas! Great graphics, ease of use, and better sound quality. For the price this is a very good unit with great features-and the Bluetooth works with the new iOS 6.

Pros: Bluetooth Works. Great Sound. Easy setup.

    Cons: None yet

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I picked up the JVC KW-AV60BT because I wanted a double-din LED deck that would match my interior and had a rear-ipod usb connection. The JVC KW-AV60BT has infinite color combinations, but selecting a color isn't simple. Colors are selected based on combining the primary colors. I'm far from an artist, so figuring out how to make a specif color took me some time. Another annoyance is that if you choose "sky blue" it wont tell you what "that" combination of primary's is... I was also annoyed that no matter what you change the "buttons" and "background" colors to, the menus are always blue?!?! Seriously lame! The USB / ipod is good but could be faster. I bought the cable, but haven't been too impressed with it since we don't have Pandora in Canada, and MotionX sucks compared to my garmin. All in all, good value. great sounds, easy to use, nice appearance. BT is good but could use some refinement.

    Pros: Sound quality Value

    Cons: Menus Speed Colors

    Happy as can be.

I bought this unit for the built in Bluetooth and DVD capabilities. I really Feel I got a great deal. Well worth the money I replaced my factory speakers as well to alpine and it sounds terrific.

Pros: Bluetooth automatically connects to my iPhone and I can touch dial through the head unit. Love watching YouTube and Watching streaming video content on the head unit. Detachable face is a must where I'm from.

Cons: Resolution when watching YouTube and videos from iPod could use improvement.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really like this radio. The connectivity is really awesome. The price is right. The display is top notch. I I love the interface and being able to connect the navigation from my Iphone to this screen. My only complaint is that the bluetooth quality for the microphone is not clear. When I connect the phone by hard wire it is a little better but overall the bluetooth microphone is very disappointing. So many people have told me that the echo is really severe.. So unless I am on hold, I will not use the bluetooth connection for the phone. I am going to research this and see if there are some solutions.

Pros: Great value. Great connectivity to Iphone. Easy to use. Great tone adjustments through equalizer and crossover are unbelievable. The more I have toyed with these adjustments the more I have really fallen in love with this unit and the sound.

Cons: My only complaint is that the bluetooth microphone just does not measure up. Too much echo.

Very please with actual unit, and Crutchfield top notch service. Installation was a breeze and overall unit is easy to use. We bought the iPhone/Pod connector cable and it makes it that much easier to interface. Had early issue with clarity of connection with Mic when connected on bluetooth. After trouble shooting with Crutchfield over several calls, finaly solved issue by moving Mic sensitivity to 1. Crutchfield service was excellent throughout.

Pros: Good value and easy installation

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had this unit in my car for less than 24 hours. The first thing I noticed was a flier stuffed into the box recommending a firmware update for improved BT audio control. I spent an hour on a Friday night getting the HU installed and configured then I downloaded the firmware update. On Sat. morning I installed the update then went on a 2 hr round trip. I played around with all of the features I use (BT calls, BT audio, and Sat radio) for a lot of the trip. Overall I was happy with the controls and useability of the radio. Everything was easy to find and set up, no hassles there. I went for another drive later in the day, ~20 minutes total, same deal. I noticed the BT audio controls weren't always working as expected, so I went out to the car to try my wife's phone and see if that would be any better, though I never got the chance. The radio reset itself and booted to the "initial setup" screen. Every time I touched the screen to configure the options the radio rebooted. I was never able to get it back to normal, so back it went in exchange for a Pioneer AVH-P3400BH. I've also recently tried an Alpine CDE-HD138BT. Of the three the JVC was #1 in ease of use, #1 in user interface, #2 in display customization, and a distant #3 in sound quality.

Pros: The user interface is well laid out and easy to use, by FAR the best when compared to Pioneer AVH-P3400BH & Alpine CDE-HD138BT. You can adjust the display colors but I wasn't able to change everything I wanted (seems like only certain text items change color?). This JVC uses the SiriusXM SXV-100V1 add-on which is very compact and easy to install (Plug n Play; interface cable and antenna cable, that's it). The BT audio controls are OK but laggy at times.

Cons: The sound quality is nowhere near the Pioneer AVH-P3400BH & Alpine CDE-HD138BT. BT call quality is horrible. All of the EQ settings (aside from flat) introduced a ton of white noise. To be fair I didn't try to mess around with the EQ too much to figure it out, but that's because the unit died within 24 hours of installation.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this JVC unit in my 2007 VW Passat. The JVC head unit has been working great. Bluetooth sync works great to my Droid RAZR smartphone. The phone sound quality in the car is great. The folks on the other end say it sounds very good...typical car phone sound but good. I installed the SiriusXM SXV-100V1 satellite radio interface to the JVC head unit and it works great and was very simple to install. The JVC KW-AV60BT is a great unit with quick touchscreen response and features. Good sound quality. I also used the PAC C2R-VW2 wiring harness. This is a must on any install to handle all the wiring issues. The Crutchfield VW dash-kit was ok. The kit needed more instructions and the quality could be better. I was able to fiddle and work with and it now looks factory. No complaints from Crutchfield. I called once during the install to verify a wiring question and they were very helpful.

Pros: Excellent head unit, great value.

Cons: No issues with JVC radio.only with the dash-kit - could be better.

    Great product

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After trying to scrutinize this product in every way that I could, I ended up not being able to find ANYTHING wrong with it. I've seen videos of similar models going very slow and was worried about that, but mine goes pretty fast. When you open up the search feature it will take a second to load, but other than that it is a smooth operation that can be used while driving. It can play things directly from an Android phone, but unfortunately will play EVERYTHING on it. So if you downloaded an app that has tiny sound files, it will play those too. It can also play through a USB thumbdrive, but remember to format it to FAT32 otherwise it won't read it. Overall very happy with the product as well as Crutchfield.

Pros: Smooth operation. Ease of use. Great sized screen. 4v Preouts Mine has 1% THD at 35 volume out of 50 which is better than most headunits on the market.

Cons: Slow to load search pages or scrollings. Soaks up a good amount of power. Remote recommended for it by JVC does not work fully.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm very happy with this unit. Added bonus to Crutchfield for giving me the wiring harness, mounting kit and detailed instructions for how to install in my 2008 Nissan Frontier. I never would have been able to take apart the dash of my truck to get to the unit without the Crutchfield instruction packet. As for the unit itself, my main interest was that the interface for ipod controls/usb controls is easy to use and the unit delivers on that. Sound is good (though I need to upgrade my speakers) and bluetooth mic quality is good (mounted by the driver visor seems to be best in my truck). Pretty cool that you can upload your own jpgs to use as the background image. The only thing that annoys me about the unit is that I can't turn off the album art (the square that says Experience in the prod shot on this site) so I can see the background image I uploaded. Would also be cooler if there were a slideshow mode, or rotating background images that could be stored in the unit. All in all, very satisfied with both the unit itself and with buying it from crutchfield.

Pros: Good & intuitive ipod/usb/mp3 cd user interface USB cable comes from back of the unit Good bluetooth sound quality Customize the background image with an 800x600 jpg

Cons: Can't disable/hide album art square on screen Can't upload multiple images to have a slideshow / changing background

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great radio with a lot of features more expensive units have. Keep in mind that I'm a big user of Apple so it nicely integrated with my phone for GPS, IPod, Pandora and other apps. Connected it to a rear camera and that works perfectly. Satellite kit installed and works well along with steering wheel controls. The Bluetooth mic however is HORRIBLE. People can barely hear me. I got the radio installed professionally and will see if they have a solution, but if you talk a lot in the car and are buying this for the Bluetooth keep looking.

    Pros: Features for price.

    Cons: Bluetooth really stinks.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my wifes new 2012 Accord SE - she is the type that is happy with what she has - I'm not :o) So without going overboard I check the Crutchfield outlet and got this as an open box. Still a little more in cost than other places, but I am a loyal Cructhfield customer for years. All was cool, I soldered and heat sealed all of the lines. I put a SWI-JACK in order to us steering wheel controls, hooked up SiriusXM - I got it all in - the bluetooth worked fin, my wife said the phone was clear, etc. Then I realized I was never told to take the bottom portion of try trim from the OEM unit. So now, tomorrow I have to pull the whole thing out and reconnect it - not bad considering I now ordered the iPhone hook up for it. This beats the $1100 Alpine I bought two-years ago from Crutchfield which is JUNK compared to this.

Pros: Aesthetics, sound, ease of installation, detachable face, sleek, colorful, lots of options.

Cons: When using the SWI-JACK, volume is slightly sluggish, not as bad as people on here say. The steering wheel controls only allow me to do vol + and vol - the channel button only goes down not up. No tragedy.

I have been out of the radio thing for about 10yrs just using OEM, it was time to replace so it was between this a Kenwood and Pioneer. I always buy Panasonic, they have always been good to me, but that was not an option. JVC has always been a staple in my audio life as well, and this is just another unit that just works as it should. I wish it was not so integrated with Apple products, android fan here. But I'd buy this one again, with out any doubts.

Pros: Great sound, bluetooth, user uploadable wallpaper

Cons: Too integrated with apple, detachable face (does offer a way to secure it)

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed on my 07 Passat last week and everything has been working great. Must have some patience with the wiring process however it is very straight forward because the wires are color coded. Pairs up great with my iPhone's Bluetooth and even through USB. Sound quality is great, just as good as the stock radio. Props to Crutchfield as well. Had a small technical issue and Crutchfield responded at 11:30pm and solved my issue. Radio responsiveness is very quick and this was a must for me. A lot of radios out there have very slow response time. For all iPhone/iPod users, the GPS features or any APP features will work only if you buy the special cable. The reasoning for this is because any app that is displayed on the screen is displayed through TV-Out. It's still good though. I load up MotionX GPS Drive on the iPhone and it will display it on the screen. On a side note, when trying to make phone calls over Bluetooth, on the other side of the line it sounds like you are talking through a tunnel. I think this is due to a poor mic that was included with it. I even placed the mic close to me and the sound quality didn't change. I will have to try a new mic and see. The incoming sound however sounds great when coming from the speakers.

Pros: Quick and responsive touch screen. Easily pairs with iPhone and other devices Bluetooth. Sound quality for music is just as good over Bluetooth as is when connected through USB.

Cons: Poor microphone quality. Sounds like you are talking through a tunnel.

    so far so good

I just got this yesterday and installed it myself today. Crutchfield does a great job of providing everything needed to install this on your own. Be patient there is a bit of wiring that needs to be done but it is color coordinated. So far I have managed to pair this device with my phone and it works well. the setup of the unit itself was easy. Tuning the sound is interesting, it allows you to use a 3 band basic sound setup or a 9 band advanced set up. I have only had this unit installed for about 3 hours and I am happy I made the purchase.

Pros: great price, great sound, easy installation, responsive touch screen. bluetooth pairs with my evo 4g.

    Cons: none at the moment.

Each number can be up to 32 digits long and each name can be up to 50 characters long. You can do an alphabetical search (A-Z) to find your desired contact.
      • Call Log: The Call Log is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls (up to 50 each).
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.

Note: This unit allows you to answer a call or dial out using any option without engaging the parking brake.

SMS: If your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone is compatible with SMS (Short Message Service), the JVC head unit will notify you when a message has been received. You must then use your phone to check the message. You cannot read, edit, or send a message through this unit.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The JVC KW-AV60BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The KW-AV60BT will be able to control basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music; such as Play/Pause, Skip Next/Previous, and Fast Forward/Rewind. Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KW-AV60BT utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KW-AV60BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KW-AV60BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KW-AV60BT are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 20 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KW-AV60BT with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to low, the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to high, and the volume control will range from 0 to 50. The internal amp can also be turned off when all the speakers are powered by outboard amplifiers.

5ch/4V Preamp Outputs: The KW-AV60BT is equipped with 5ch/4.0V preamp outputs (Front, Rear, Subwoofer). The front and rear preamp outputs allow fader control, while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading.

Subwoofer Control: You can adjust the KW-AV60BT's subwoofer level (-50 to +10) independently from the head unit's main volume control for added bass volume.

Built-in Crossovers: The JVC KW-AV60BT features a built-in high-pass filter for the unit's front & rear speakers, and a low-pass filter for the unit's subwoofer output.

    • High-Pass Filter: You can activate a variable high-pass filter (40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, 180, 220 Hz or Through) for the unit's front & rear channels (speaker- or preamp-level), so low frequency signals are cut off from your system's front & rear speakers. The front & rear channel's high-pass filters can be set independently of one another.
    • Low-Pass Filter: The unit's subwoofer preamp output features a low-pass filter. In order to prevent high-frequencies from being sent to your system's subwoofers, you can set the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter to 50, 60, 80, 100, 120 Hz or Through.

Speaker Select: You can select which type & size of speaker you have connected to the head unit. Choose from Standard (OEM/Factory), Narrow (4"/5"), Middle (6"/5x7"/6x8"), Wide (6x9").

Pro EQ: The KW-AV60BT is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 8 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, Vibrant, and User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

    Frequency Level Q
    Bass 60, 80, 100, 150 Hz +/- 10 dB (-5 to +5) 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0
    Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 kHz +/- 10 dB (-5 to +5) 1.0, 2.0
    Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 kHz +/- 10 dB (-5 to +5) Fixed

Note: The audio adjustments are memorized for each source until you adjust the sound again.

Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can set the Loudness to On or Off.

Dynamic Range Compression: This function reduces a Dolby Digital soundtrack's dynamic range so you can hear quieter dialog without being overwhelmed by loud sections. You can choose a setting of On (reduced dynamic range), Dialogue (clearer movie dialogue), or Off (full dynamic range).

Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -15 to +6.

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.
