JVC's KW-AV61 DVD receiver keeps your smartphone in the loop when you're on the road, with some nifty app integration controlled from the detachable 6.1" touchscreen. With your iPhone® connected via JVC's KS-U30 cable, you'll get basic control over audio apps like Tunein Radio, including functions like play/pause or track up/down. You can also view traffic info from Inrix, Cobra iRadar, and other driving apps on your iPhone 4 or 4S. For powerful navigation, download the MotionX-GPS Drive app (subscription required) and you'll be able to see maps and live traffic reports on the receiver's screen. You'll still need to access your iPhone with this app, so consider adding an iPhone mount for easy use.
JVC lets you enjoy your favorite Pandora stations on the road. Just plug in your iPhone and you'll have touchscreen control right in your dash, with artist and song info on the big display. And you'll enjoy the rest of your digital music too — plug your iPod® or iPhone into the USB input, and you can tap your way through all your tunes and playlist on this JVC's responsive touchscreen. If you're not an iPod user, you can load up a USB drive or a recordable disc with music — it's easy to fit hundreds of tracks on either one, and you can still dive in using the touchscreen.
Use the rear audio/video inputs to hook up your favorite portable audio player, a camcorder, or another video source. This receiver boasts a video output to send movies to a rear video screen, so your passengers will stay happy during the longest road trips. If you've got a big vehicle, you'll appreciate the input for a rear-view camera — helpful for when you're maneuvering your vehicle in tight spaces.
You can add hands-free calling and music streaming capability to this receiver with the addition of JVC's KS-BTA100 Bluetooth® adapter. (Note: You can't connect JVC's Bluetooth adapter and the KS-U30 iPod adapter simultaneously, since they both use the same rear A/V input.) If traveling's in your blood, think about hooking up a SiriusXM tuner so you can listen to your favorite sports, talk, and commercial-free music on satellite radio wherever you go.
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.
Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

Amazing unit! Detachable face is great for bad areas
Cons: Not Compatable with all ipods. But works great through the auxiliary.
It's a great item but without bluetooth it sucks my iPhone 4,4s and 5 would not connect with the AV Cables that JVC Stated would work with the Produced. But the JVC Sounds great and look nice but would I buy again No....
Not bad a all. Doesn't seem to have the sound output as my stock, but that wasn't a surprise. Touchscreen works well. Video quality looks good. Overall a great unit for the price. iPod controls work with my iphone 5. The only thing I can't seem to access is the podcasts and videos. I use my lightening cable plugged in to the USB port.
Pros: Touchscreen, iPod controls, front aux, USB port
Cons: Sound isn't great, install wasn't as easy as I hoped (still not that bad)
Great product for the price
Pros: Affordable price with good sound quality.
Cons: Touch screen not the most responsive at times.
Great unit. Easy to install with kit that came with it. REALLY cool with an Iphone 4.
Pros: Great price for touchscreen stereo with good sound.
Cons: Not iphone 5 compatible.
This receiver is a great value. The cost is low but the overall performance and quality surpass nicer decks I have had.
Pros: responsive touchscreen A lot of sound parameters Different types of inputs Nice quality screen
Cons: No bluetooth
Really happy with everything..Easy to install with provided harness.. The head unit is awesome..great sound..easy to use..
Pros: tons of color options to match any dash.
Cons: none that i've found.
I had a Kenwood DDX-419 in a previous vehicle and this unit outclasses that unit in every way. Though this unit does not have blue tooth connectivity it does everything you would want a basic DVD head unit to do. The screen is clear. The user interface FAR surpasses anything that Kenwood can come up with. It is easy to navigate and intuitive to use, unlike the kenwood. The sound it produces is also on par with the Kenwood branded units. Do yourself a favor, save a few $$$ and go with this unit over the comparative Kenwood.
Pros: Easy to use, Excellent user interface, Expandability
I want to make sure shoppers are aware of one factor that is not mentioned anywhere in the readings about the KW-AV61 receiver. It is not compatible with iPhone5 video. If you have an iPhone 4S or earlier model, this product works as described and is a nice radio for the price. HOWEVER, despite all the claims of being "iPhone compatible" it fails to mention it is not compatible with the iPhone5. It will play audio from the iPhone5, and allow touchscreen controls through your iTunes music, but you cannot use the apps such as Motion-X GPS or watch any videos off your iPhone5. I wish I could have read a review like this before buying because I would have chosen a different model. It is definitely a nice receiver: good sound, good video with iPod and iPhone 4, but just know that video will not work with your iPhone 5. I called JVC to find out if they could make a firmware upgrade, and they said no, this model will never play video from your iPhone 5.
Pros: nice radio when used with compatible devices
Cons: Not compatible with video from iPhone 5
Looks amazing. Very easy to use and has great sound quality.
I absolutely love this radio. The sound quality is amazing.
Pros: I love the detachable face
Cons: There isn't a carrying case for the radio face
Installed this unit in my MkV Jetta. Great unit for the price. Everything functions nicely after working out a few bugs. The instructions on hooking up an iPod are NOT intuitive. Thought there was an issue with my unit even after talking to Tech Support as it recognized the iPod and showed all my playlists/album art/meta data etc but didn't produce any audio. After studying the manual further, you can use an iPod with just the USB plug if you select AV-IN on the unit. If you have a 30 pin to USB and AV RCA cord, you need to select iPod on the unit. Seems backwards to me. Especially since you can't select different AV-IN or iPod settings after the initial set-up screen. Had to reset the unit which lost all my presets. Once I got it working though, it functions well. It's nice being able to access all playlists and sort by artist, album, or song unlike the OEM "iPod adapter". Audio quality is good and has lots of tunable EQ settings and high-pass/low-pass filter adjustments for front and back channels.
Pros: Good value for the unit and included functions. Nice sound quality. Fairly intuitive menus and controls.
Cons: Instructions for iPod setup/connection are not intuitive. Make sure you read the instructions VERY carefully as the setup seems backwards to me. iPod playlist scrolling can be laggy.
I got this for a 2004 RV as an upgrade, and also to use with a back up camera. I am happy with it, the touch screen is easy to use, it has a dial for easy on and off, and also I like the front auxiliary jack, I can pod stream from my cell phone. One thing, I haven't been able to get the iPod to work from the USB jack, maybe that's the installation, or just me, but the iPod plays just fine from the auxiliary jack. One thing that is also a plus, I can turn on the back up camera at anytime from the touch screen, so I can see who and what is behind me as I am driving.
Pros: auxiliary jack on front, dials and I can turn on the back up camera at anytime.
Cons: I haven't been able to figure out how to work the iPod from the USB jack.
This was a very economical purchase. I love this radio and I love the customer service at crutchfield. Thus far I have not had any problems.
Fairly easy to install. Service team was helpful. Still need to purchase cord for back USB to I can hear music from my iPod (it shows up on the unit but no sound).
Had some issues with initial install. This was not related to the JVC itself. Once speaker issues were resolved this thing ROCKS! I have a Ford Mach 1000 system that sounds vetter than original HU with the addition of the JVC. Pandora works great as does the dvd (though probably won't be using that in my convertible too much). Great head unit at a great price. Service team was also very helpful. You can't go wrong.
Great receiver removable face piece a very nice feature

You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display "Parking Off". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork.
Multi-Language Menu: There are ten options for the menu language; English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Swedish, Danish, and Russian.
2-DIN Chassis: The JVC KW-AV61 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as Double DIN), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. You can switch the tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity. Local tuning lets you only tune in stations with sufficient signal strength. You can activate the monaural mode to improve FM reception, when a station is week (the stereo effect will be lost).
Note: You can set the built-in AM/FM tuner between US standard and European tuning spacing.

Drive Change Mode (for BlackBerry): The JVC receiver's USB port supports playback from BlackBerry smartphones (via USB mass storage mode). JVC's Drive Change Mode lets you connect your BlackBerry smartphone (that uses an external memory card) directly to the head unit, via USB. - *Requires the Lighting-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect to the head unit.
- **Requires the JVC KSU-30 iPod cable (105KSU30, sold separately) and the Apple Lightning to 30-pin adapter (472LTN230P, sold separately).
- Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.
24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KW-AV61 utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.
MOSFET Amplifier: The KW-AV61 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.
CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the KW-AV61 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the KW-AV61 are as follows:
Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KW-AV61 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to low, the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to high, and the volume control will range from 0 to 50. The internal amp can also be turned off when all the speakers are powered by outboard amplifiers.
5ch/4V Preamp Outputs: The KW-AV61 is equipped with 5ch/4.0V preamp outputs (Front, Rear, Subwoofer). The front and rear preamp outputs allow fader control, while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading.
Subwoofer Level: You can adjust the KW-AV61's subwoofer level (-50 to +10) independently from the head unit's main volume control for added bass volume.
Built-in Crossovers: The JVC KW-AV61 features a built-in high-pass filter for the unit's front & rear speakers, and a low-pass filter for the unit's subwoofer output.
Speaker Select: You can select which type & size of speaker you have connected to the head unit. Choose from Standard (OEM/Factory), Narrow (4"/5"), Middle (6"/5x7"/6x8"), Wide (6x9").
Pro EQ: The KW-AV61 is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 8 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, Vibrant, and User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).
|Bass||60, 80, 100, 150 Hz||+/- 10 dB (-5 to +5)||1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0|
|Midrange||0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 kHz||+/- 10 dB (-5 to +5)||1.0, 2.0|
|Treble||10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 kHz||+/- 10 dB (-5 to +5)||Fixed|
Note: The audio adjustments are memorized for each individual source until you adjust the sound again.
Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can set the Loudness to On or Off.
Dynamic Range Compression: This function reduces a Dolby Digital soundtrack's dynamic range so you can hear quieter dialog without being overwhelmed by loud sections. You can choose a setting of On (reduced dynamic range), Dialogue (clearer movie dialogue), or Off (full dynamic range).
Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -15 to +6.
Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.
Dual A/V Inputs: The JVC KW-AV61 DVD receiver is fitted with two audio/video inputs. The unit features a front-panel 3.5mm audio/video input for connecting a temporary external A/V source, such as a game console. The head unit also features a composite video/stereo audio RCA input on the rear-panel for connecting a permanent external A/V source, such as a Blu-ray player or mobile ATSC tuner. The rear-panel audio/video input can be set to one of the following modes:
Note: You cannot connect both the KS-BTA100 Bluetooth adapter & the KS-U30 iPod adapter, since they share the same AV input.
Camera In: The rear-panel Camera input consists of a composite video connector which allows you to connect an optional rear-view camera (105KVCM20, sold separately). The unit features a reverse gear signal wire, that when connected to your vehicle's reverse light circuit, will automatically switch the KW-AV61's display to the rear-view camera input. Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.2 seconds. Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.
Video Output: The rear-panel Video Output consists of a composite video jack that allows you to connect an optional external monitor. You can watch the same audio/video source that is being played back on the JVC head unit on your connected external monitor (sold separately). You can select between a 16:9, 4:3 LB, or 4:3 PS Aspect Ratio for the unit's video output to match your connected monitor.
Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.
Optional Wireless Remote: The JVC KW-AV61 is wireless remote controller ready and supports the JVC RM-RK252P IR wireless remote control (sold separately)
Optional Bluetooth: The unit's rear-panel AV input can also be used to connect JVC's KS-BTA100 Bluetooth Adapter (105KSBTA10, sold separately). The KW-AV61 requires a male stereo RCA-to-female 3.5mm converter cable (sold separately) to connect the KS-BTA100 Bluetooth adapter. The head unit's AV input must also be set to "Bluetooth" in the menu. The KS-BTA100 gives you hands-free communication from your compatible Bluetooth mobile phone and wireless streaming audio from a Bluetooth enabled digital audio player. The optional JVC Bluetooth Adapter includes a super-sensitive microphone, an Answer/End button, and playback controls. The KW-AV61 can be set to automatically mute any music audio to your vehicle's speakers so you can listen to your telephone call using your car speakers. Not all Bluetooth devices will be compatible.
Note: Visit the JVC Mobile Entertainment Bluetooth Support Page for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled devices.

It's more like matte finish, it not glossy or shiny. [ GLENN Dec 29, 2013 ]
Yes Rich k it has a glossy finish but looks really nice in lincoln navigator. But i think still look good in your jetta also with great sound .thanks [ NATHANIEL Dec 28, 2013 ]
The frame around the screen is not a matte finish. It would be considered a gloss. It is not too glossy as some are but if you need a flat finish you should keep looking. [ JOHN Dec 28, 2013 ]
