Smartphone options

If you enjoy Internet radio on your smartphone, you'll really enjoy playing music from Pandora® and iHeartRadio® on this versatile receiver. Load the Pandora or iHeartRadio Link app on your iPhone®, connect it to the USB input, and you can scroll through your stations, bookmark songs, and give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down right from the receiver's face. With JVC's Music Control app loaded on select Android® phones, you can play and control the stored music on the smartphone.

Added cool stuff

JVC upped the power in their USB port, which lets you keep your smartphone charged, even when it's doing several tasks at once. Drive Change allows you to connect a memory card reader or USB hub to the receiver's USB input, then select music from up to five memory cards or USB flash drives. You can also connect just about any portable audio player to the KW-R710's front aux input, or simply pop in one of your favorite CDs.

Once you're playing what you want, shape your sound with the onboard 3-band parametric equalizer. If you're adding amplifiers or a powered subwoofer, the two sets of 2.5-volt preamp outputs provide you the clean signal you need.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

App Note: iHeartRadio playback and control requires the "iHeartRadio Link for JVC" app on your smartphone.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    Very poor radio reception

JIm from Central NJ on 1/20/2016

I live in a metropolitan area and normally I can receive both NY and Philadelphia stations in my other car without issue but with this unit I barely get any reception. If I use the USB port to charge my phone I get nothing. The menu system is not at all intuitive a task as simple as setting the clock takes much longer than it should. Finally the unit will not eject my CD. I bought this unit because it would automatically Bluetooth connect to 2 phones sadly this is intermittent at best. On a positive note the sound quality is good and the customization of the color display makes it look like it was made for my car.

Pros: Good sound, Display is good as well

Cons: Poor Radio reception, intermittent Bluetooth connections, won't eject my CD

Install in a GMC Sierra 2500

    DJ from Connecticut on 1/18/2016

Install a snap with provided instructions and wire adapters. You DO NOT have to cut the rear supports as pictured for this radio to fit. Absolute perfect fit with mtg hardware. Radio a killer for the money. Also put new speakers in-Kickers in the front, Pioneers in the rear. Big sound

Pros: Receiver has all the features and power you will ever need

Cons: None that would bother me

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It took me a while to finally add this considering I've got custom door speakers with sub and amp already. A lot of people comment about how much better there stock speakers sound but, with actual good speakers like the top of the line pioneer 6x8 in my 2009 ford Taurus, a pretty major difference. It's taken me a little bit to learn how to work this unit but I figure if I'm going to keep it, I need to lean. It takes a little bit, but I'm happy now with it, a lot of adjustments can be made for what ever taste you have. I really think if you have this unit with stock speakers you really need to also upgrade to aftermarket ones to really hear a bigger better difference! Either way a can't miss!

Pros: Sounded really good even without my sub on, could live with it even without the sub. Charges and plays my phone.

Cons: For me at least, took a while to learn.

    Great receiver!!

So far I have enjoyed this CD/radio. The sound is good. I haven't had the time take the booklet and sit in my car to figure out how everything works (ie. to change the lights) yet but then again I have enjoyed the "disco" feel! It was fairly easy to install, though I had some help. Everything I needed was sent to me which helped me a lot since I really didn't know what I would need to install it. I would recommend this product and Crutchfield for any of your car stereo needs!

Excellent unit...great sound, easy to use...very flexible. Installed very nicely. No gaps, no major problems installing the unit. Minor issue during the installation, I called the tech support line, they only needed my email and zip code, and they knew what I had..no trying to find a sales / order number. They had me set up and running in 5 minutes, and wouldn't let me off the phone until he heard the radio playing. I will buy from Crutchfield again. The web site was excellent too, only showed me choices that fit my car.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the factory radio in a 2006 Mercury Montego with this unit. With the helpful info on the website I new what I needed to install this radio. The install instructions are a plus as well. The radio takes some getting used to with all the features but with the owners manual I was able to figure out how to set up. Its has a very nice (simple display). The sound quality improved.

Pros: easy install, improved sound quality, and more options for add ons.

Cons: setting up requires manual, not very intuitive

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this in my daughter's 2010 Nissan Rogue; her Aux jack broke on the Bose factory stereo and I realized it would be less expense and aggravation to install a new radio than to repair the old one. The install looks intimidating at first (tons of wires, some vehicle wiring harnesses left unused, etc) but was able to complete the install and it worked on the first try. Crutchfield tech support was outstanding! I called them three times during the install process, even though I spoke to three different techs they were able to access my information and help immediately. Everyone was knowledgeable and patient- I am pretty handy but have never installed a car stereo before. Radio sounds great, can't beat the price (even with all of the accessory wiring harnesses and faceplate adapter), and my daughter loves the "blingy blingy" flashing colored lights. And the USB jack is a great upgrade, allowing her to not connect her phone to a separate charging and aux cable every time she's in the car.

Pros: Price, ease of install, features, sound

I have had the unit less than two weeks in my 2004 Mustang Cobra, replacing the stock Mach 460 system which had CD changer issues. The Included harness fit perfectly. The speaker wires mated up perfectly using solder and tape. The sound quality is great!!! Convenient AUX port and USB makes a CD changer obsolete. So far it has performed flawlessly.

Pros: Sound Quality, Appearance in dash is great. Flexibility in formats with AUX and USB

ClayW from San Francisco on 10/7/2015

Installed in 2004 Nissan Frontier XE King Cab. Installation was straightforward and easy. Sound is monumentally better than the stock Clarion unit. Display is very bright and I ended up turning everything down to minimum for the "Night" setting. Lots of presets for the EQ plus 2 programmable by user. Bluetooth works well with iPhone 6. Pairing took a little while but was pretty painless. I tend to use the USB port so I can charge my phone while listening to music and using phone GPS. Also paired with my work iPhone 5. The Disco Display Demo is easily turned off if you read the instructions. Very hard to beat for the money. I purchase the refurbished unit and can't tell it from new. Take your time and play with the buttons. There seem to be a lot more choices/settings than what's in the owners manual.

Pros: Price and features. Good sound (compared to stock CD/radio)

    Cons: None to speak of.

    2006 Nissan Pathfinder
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this stereo to replace the factory unit on my daughter's 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. Installation instructions and gear were so good that my 18 year old daughter did most of the work, except for the steering wheel controls. This part was complicated and instructions supplied with the package were not clear as to the wire combinations. Placed a call to Crutchfield and immediately received very specific instructions via e-mail that worked like a charm. Sound through factory speaker system is super. Looks are great, especially at night, where effects and colors are appreciated.

Pros: Sound quality, ease of use, Aux and USB adapters.

Cons: Lots of wire splicing, but, on the other hand, precise instructions and schematics.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So I ordered this head unit because it looked like a great bargain, I typed in my car model and year to find out that it will fit perfectly with the recommended wiring harness, so I ordered it. It got here today and I was stoked so started wiring it, I crimped the harness to the stereo wiring to realize that it had 2 ports and my car only has one, and neither of them match it, I did find out they match the ones for my digital clock in my 1997 4Runner Limited, but that isn't the radio. So as it turns out I can not use this unless I have it "professionally" installed because the wires connecting to it do not match the colors of my vehicles port.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The font size on the manual instructions is so small that a magnifier had to be used to read it. Installation parts were missing from the package. Installer had to fabricate some in order to install the radio. Reception is problematical also. Distant stations do not receive well. The display is hard for this reviewer's eyes to manage. This product is OK and the price was also OK. This reviewer would not purchase it again, certainly.

    Pros: None.

Pros: It has a lot better sound quality then my old one easy to install

Cons: The only thing bad that has happend and I have been told it's with all stereos is right when you install the new one it blows your fuse but I spent like an hour making sure I wired it right when all it was was a fuse

Loved this head unit. My only complaints is that one of my rear speakers is not working anymore. I soldered the wires over and over again but it's still not working. I didn't blow a fuse because all the speakers and the head unit wouldn't be working and I can't figure out the problem.

Pros: Beautiful. Had an old ipod that can only play when connected to something, so I awesome I can use it again after all these years even though the screen is dead on the ipod!

Cons: Loss of sound from one of my rear speakers. Brown wire not labeled to know what it does.

This stereo replaced my stock stereo in my Ford f150, and I couldn't be more happy. The stereo made stock speakers sound so much better I couldn't believe it. The perfect mix of a huge amount of options and ease of use. Crutchfield was awesome to deal with, and their mounting hardware made installation a literal 20 minute job. I could not be more satisfied as a customer, and I will be back for sure. If you're looking for an extremely affordable way to bring the functionality of your cell phone into your car, Iwould highly recommend this stereo. I love mine!

Well It finally came time for me to replace the aging Bose head unit in my Infiniti. So I wanted something in the 21st century (USB,AUX,ETC) after looking and reading the reviews I finally bought this radio. After 6 months of use I have only had to do a master reset once. It's holding up better then I thought!. The selection for the colors is neat and it has some cool preset colors too. For what I paid for this radio I am very pleased. If you are looking for a cheap but decent radio this is it.

Easy to install-- The 'set up' was a little challenging. I had to call tech help once to ease my mind about the yellow and red wires as they are labeled differently in the radio instructions and the interface instructions. I used covered butt connectors to put the wires together- wire nuts would have been messy. I have figured out how to use the radio & cd player, but I will have to fiddle with it a little to sus out the color thing. Sound is great- the first cd I put in was a computer burn copy & it played just like a new one.

Pros: Easy install, Nice look, nice sound, fit the car perfectly (read the instructions),

Cons: the menu is not friendly at first, but it takes a little getting used to.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did a 1.5 DIN to Double DIN conversion to my 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 Extended Cab, 4WD pickup. I removed the OEM 1.5 DIN, AC-Delco, DVD Receiver in the dashboard and replaced it with a new aftermarket Double-DIN, JVC KW-710 DVD Receiver. Since, the new 2-DIN CD receiver is slightly taller than the OEM receiver. I had to modify the opening in the dash bezel to fit the taller radio. As shown in the digital photograph that I took, the results are looking pretty good. A 2-meter Ham Radio was installed in the lower bay where the OEM cassette player was formerly located.

Pros: My new JVC KW-710 CD Receiver sounds much better than the OEM 1.5 DIN receiver that was replaced. It looks much better than the OEM radio. The fit in my 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 is much better than expected.

Cons: The dash bezel had to be modified to accommodate my new Double DIN receiver. I used a template that was provided by an automotive stereo shop that does Double Din conversions for 1999-2002 GM pickups.

I bought this to replace a JVC KDS-100 Bongiovi DSP unit I bought from Crutchfield years ago. This new one suffers in comparison, especially in sound quality. It may have trouble pushing the Infinity reference speakers,I don't know. The bass is boom-y and sounds completely different. The wattage is supposed to be comparable, but it's not working out well.It looks impressive and isn't as finicky with a flash memory loaded with music as the old one was,but the improvements end there.Probably will go with a Sony or Pioneer next time.

Pros: Looks nice,Changeable color scheme(sort of) Stereo reception not bad if you care about that.

Installed into my 2014 Nissan Frontier pick-up truck. Double DIN size fit perfect into dash. Great sound, did not need to purchase new speakers. total transformation for my truck. had unit installed for me. Many color and equalizer settings. Great idea to add usb port for my carry along music catalogue. . Crutchfield made purchase easy, did not have to buy any extras. Crutchfield provided all hardware needed.

Pros: Great sound. improved sound out of my speakers. like the equalizer settings.

Cons: wish I would pick signals from android phone.

Was very easy to install. Supplied adapters matched original with no problem. Color code and instructions were somewhat obtuse, but by process of elimination, correct wire termination was accomplished.

Pros: nice looking, great quality and half the price of the original non-functioning unit it replaced

Cons: non noted at this time.

It's easy to use and install thanks to Crutchfield's instructions and manuals. Customer service helped me through installation and was absolutely great. I would recommend this product to anyone.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed this in my 2006 Corolla, and haven't really put it through it's paces yet. However there are a few things I don't like about it. It would be nice if it had a Mute button. Also, a separate Band button would make it easier to access the radio stations I listen to when I drive to work. And my last observation is that there seems to be a 2-3 second delay when switching between the different source functions. In fact the countdown is displayed on the screen. I installed a less expensive radio in my 1999 Corolla that has the Mute & Band buttons, and with a quicker response. I wanted something a little flashier for the 2006 but am a little disappointed now. The display is very nice. It does take time to go through the menu to set it up, but that's pretty much standard for the newer units. It was pretty easy to install once I got the old radio pulled out. The pieces needed to fit the radio to my car worked great. Fit perfectly. I realize in the grand scheme of things, these are incredibly minor issues but I thought they may help a prospective buyer make an informed choice.

Pros: Price; great customer support; fast delivery; looks good

Cons: No mute button; no band button; delay when switching functions

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing is awesome. I just installed it in my 2005 Camry. It immediately upgraded the sound tremendously. When I was in high school, I was really into car stereos, so I know what good sounds like. This sounds great. But the main reason I am writing this is because I was very worried this thing would look crazy. It actually is not as bright and colorful as it appears. You can make it that way (change colors to really bright and turn up the brightness) or you can put it on a nice auburn or green and turn the brightness down, and it looks like a stock stereo.

Pros: sound, color settings, aux input

    Cons:

Great Audio Quality - slightly buggy software

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit came well packaged, the install was slow but pretty straightforward(I had a long time ago tried to remove the factory radio without proper instructions and stripped a few screws, so I had to use the dremel tool to cut notches into the screw heads and use a flat screwdriver tip to take the screws out.)

Pros: Pros: - The Unit performs very well, the audio quality improvement over the factory radio was remarkable - Plays USB. I got one of the tiny 16GB USB keys from another online retailer and loaded it up with music and stuck it in, now I can keep playing thousands of tracks without repeating. - Plays AUX. When wife does not agree with my song choice, she can use her phone to directly stream to the unit with a simple AUX cable with makes this unit compatible with any player that can output AUX - literally everything

Cons: CONS - The plastic vanity harness has gaps between it and the unit - gaps visible - can live with it - The Faceplate is smooth, hard plastic and any dust is extremely visible. - The Random mode on USB stinks. If you change from Random to serial, back to random, it picks the exact same sequence of songs :( This stinks big time. Fix it, JVC! - Does not show folder names. Instead shows F1, F2, F3.. for folders which makes no sense. How can I know what folder I am in??

    Great and affordable.

This is a great deck for the money spent on it. It does not have a lot of the flashy options or power that the high end decks have, but for the money you get a well built head unit that has more than enough for a quick factory deck replacement.

Cons: Menu options are limited. Needs a more intuitive interface. Needs better support for android.

I bought this radio for my Ford Explorer. It fits in the double DIN space perfectly, and the choice of colors for the display are a nice touch. Searching through the menu to decide on the options you want can be a little time-consuming, but is a necessary evil. I have a problem with the clock losing time every now and then, not sure why, but it's not a big deal to me. Other than that, I really like it.

I needed to take one of the most difficult tasks in a marriage; Spousal Technical Support. It was time to replace the broken stereo in her 2012 Nissan Versa. The new JVC came to our door faster than expected. The installation kit was complete. Instructions were easily interpreted. Only took an hour and a half to install. Most of the time was taken soldering wires. The stereo fired up first try. Unfortunately, I had wire the Blue wire from the antenna adapter to ground so the stations weren't all coming in. I email late Saturday afternoon expected an answer the following Monday. In Minutes I received an email from Matt in customer service providing me a solution to the issue. I attached the Blue wire from the antenna harness to the Blue/White wire from the JVC Harness and the Blue/White wire from the Versa's Harness. Re-installed the radio and now the tuning is better than the original radio. It's great when you get help the instant you need it.

Pros: Everything needed to replace the existing radio was provided. The delivery was fast. Customer service is excellent!

Cons: Instructions could have been a little clearer on the blue wire from the antenna harness. I might have miss read though.

I was stuck deciding between this model and the one above it with blutooth. I decided on this one because it was cheaper, supports up to 5 flashdrives on a hub and can charge your phone. And it was 1/3rd less in price. I honestly don't use blutooth when I've had cars with it so it didn't matter to me. For me the layout and low price were important. It also had more power than the Pioneer similar models. I just have a 16GB flashdrive the size of my thumb plugged it--what else could I need? Works great. Sounds great. I just wish there were buttons for bass boost and loud (you have to go into the audio menu to adjust). The only other complaint is the color matching--you can do day custom, night custom or presets. I'd like to be able to do the flow preset (goes thru all the color schemes) for the display screen just for the day setting (headlights off) but apparently the presets are for both day and night which is a shame.

Pros: looks cool low price lots of power good sound great usb port with power

Cons: no blutooth (get the model up for $50 if that's a deal breaker--it isn't for me) no "loud" or "bass boost" button for quick access presets for screen color are too general

I purchased this stereo to replace the factory radio in my 2002 Ford F250. I went with the double DIN because I didn't want the extra dead space in the dash. As with any new electronic gadget with a ton of features, it took a while to get used to. I love the Pandora feature that integrates with my iPhone 5. The install took longer than I expected due to the dash opening modification. I found it easier to just remove the dash to cut out the factory plastic tabs around the edge. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase!

Pros: Great sounding stereo with a ton of features

Cons: Modifying the dash opening was a little more difficult than expected. As the instructions state, a rotary cutting tool is a MUST.

Overall, I'm very happy. It took a lot longer to install it than I was expecting, but I'm sure if I ever install a car stereo again, it'll be easier. My only question: Has anyone had issues with the scrolling? When my 6th gen 160gb iPod Classic is plugged in, it only scrolls through the song name when the song starts, then goes back to the time. I have the scroll set on "Auto" and the time display turned off. The user's manual says that when the scroll is set on Auto, it's supposed to scroll through the info in 5 second intervals. It only does that when I turn on the car. Any ideas? I'd like it to continually scroll through all the info so I don't have to keep hitting the display button to see the album & artist name.

This is a fairly decent after market stereo. Didn't have any problems with the install pertaining to the stereo itself, just a slight snag due to the car it was installed in. It's easy to use and my wife loves to change the colors in it. My only complaint is that the color schemes are a but distracting if you use the presets that change colors on their own. Other than that, everything else is good. Sound quality, install, etc.

Radio reception is terrible. The factory unit this replaced received 25 FM and 10 AM stations near our house. This unit receives 3 FM and 1 AM. Everything else works well, but the reception problem may mean I reinstall the old unit. Installation instructions were not complete, I expected a little more. I ordered from Crutchfield about 10 years ago and the installation instructions were perfect. This time there were many questions during this install. Several wires are not mentioned in the instructions and the fit is not great (small gap at top of unit).

Looking for a low cost temporary replacement stereo this one fit the bill. Doubled the sound quality of the factory installed system that by the way, is amplified and comes with a sub. I would have needed to spend $1200 or more to put another MyGig system in. This gave me way better sound for a much lower price. Takes time to figure out the display lighting but it's pretty cool once you've got it figured out.

Pros: Great sound. Powerful USB charger. Easy to use basic functions

Cons: Takes time to figure out lighting schematics and advanced EQ settings and probably shouldn't be done while driving but once programmed, is not an issue.

The unit sounds great, so much better than what came with my Explorer. Great price on this unit. Setting it up takes a bit and it's not as easy to do some things as it was on the factory unit, but the sound makes up for all that. I don't really care about all the lights, so that's why it got a '4' on the coolness factor. With the instructions from Crutchfield, installation was relatively easy. Of course, I did have an electronic wizard friend of mine helping. But, using the adapting wiring harness and the installation bracket from Crutchfield, the new unit slipped in and fit perfectly. Thanks Crutchfield!

    Pros: Sound and cost.

Cons: Little too much lighting for my taste and haven't been able to get rid of gray 'moving billboard' on display. But, very minor compared to sound of unit.

Made the connections with no problem, i had a quick question about one of the wires so i called Crutchfield tech support and they were great, very helpful. So I decided to install the head unit today, i have a 2003 civic. Started dismantling the dash as per the master sheet, not everything was 100% accurate so i had to figure some stuff out myself, but all in all it went alot smoother than i had anticipated. I mounted the radio to the factory bracket no problem and then reinstalled all the trim. The fit was perfect , its so clean it looks stock. I couldnt be happier. Will definitely purchase from Crutchfield again.

Stereo was an upgrade for the ubiquitous "factory" unit with cassette player.... Install for a 2005 CRV went flawlessly with Crutchfield install kit. Sound improvement was instantaneous once fired up and even made the factory speakers sound good ( have since replaced factory speakers with a set of decent Kickers). Tests were run on old acoustic recordings as well as more modern tracks and clarity of guitar, bass work and vocals was excellent. For the aficionado I am sure there are minor shortfalls in the sound quality but this unit performs very well for the money. Bottom line my daughter is happy with the sound and it didn't break the bank doing it. Would of given "Ease of use" 5 stars but I have old fat fingers and a certain amount of touch is required to navigate the functions, after a few attempts I was able to operate without a hitch.

Pros: Good sound quality for the money, clarity is good for music types tested, CD player is easy to use, has both 3.5mm and USB access for music input. Allows my daughter to rock the vehicle without rocking the neighborhood....

RobG from Lincoln, NE on 5/24/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The unit is easy to use, and all the color options are a plus. The install was easy with directions sent by E-mail. The FM radio sound is normal for a unit of this price range. I am not real happy with the AM radio reception. The AM reception is not as good as the unit that came stock with the vehicle. I listen to a lot of talk radio and sports on AM and I don't get a clear signal on the outskirts of town like I did before. The CD works good and does not skip on bumps like the original unit. Overall I am happy with the unit, but if you listen to a lot of AM radio, you may look at another model. Still for the money it is a good basic unit.

Pros: Price, Looks, features, and ease of use.

    Cons: AM reception quality.

I used to have a single din JVC indash and wanted something newer and more compatible with my iphone. This indash is a great product hands down, some of the buttons are hard to get used to due to me being used to my older, simpler indash. The features that this indash has are numerous and can be somewhat overwhelming if you don't need them. Other than this good quality of too many options for its own good, anyone would love this indash. I can hook up my phone directly, my ipod directly and even my cheapo mp3 player that has a male usb port. I am very pleased with this indash an would recommend it to anyone. It took roughly 5 hours to install start to finish. I broke it up into a couple day job due to me not having a block set of time.

Pros: Colors are awesome!! You can set the equalizer the same way as a regular one, or be a pro and mess with the real tunes. Easy to install, and fun to listen to different set ups.

Cons: Just a little confusing to get to all the settings and used to all the buttons.

    Nice receiver

Pat from Harrisonburg, VA on 5/19/2014

I bought this receiver for its 22 watts RMS, iPod connection and b/c it was a double din. I love it, excepting two things. 1) The AUX in seems to be slightly less loud than the USB connection. Initially there was a hiss in the AUX in, but when I changed patch cords, that cleared right up. 2) I have used several HU's with iPod interfaces and they all leave me wanting. When you decide to change artists, it defaults (as all of mine do) to the A's. If you want Frank Zappa, you are screwed. Other than these two things, it's great. I had the unit about a week before putting in an Alpine Power Pack. This HU and this amp coupled with a new sub and amp really produces some amazing sound. I love driving in my car.

Pros: Cool Display colors True 22 watts RMS sounds great

    Cons: Poor iPod interface

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought the JVC KW-R710 for my 05 Silverado. I picked this particular unit for the features as well as the price. The unit has a lot going on, Near endless color and eq variations and plenty of power. The usb port is a great feature allowing one to load a thumb drive full of music and the ability to scroll through them. Crutchfields included detailed instructions made it a very easy and pleasant install. This was my first install and the experience was very good. The posi-connectors are a must making the job much easier. I now swear by them.

Pros: Features,Price, Power, Looks, Fit, Durability, Ease of installation.

Cons: The only con I can find is the volume knob is smooth as glass. Wish it had a rubber coating or texture for easier gripping.

Cons: Display takes a bit to learn, install adapter kit was kinda pricey.

Bought this based on price, watts, and the free install swag. Dropped into the wife's '08 Edge to replace the busted OEM unit. This JVC powers 4 Boston Acoustics in the doors with an old school MTX amp driving a Kicker 8" sub. Very impressed with the sound quality and max volume compared to what it replaced. So very simple to install (thanks Crutchfield!), looks great and sounds even better! Only ding is the menuing system - eleventy bazillion options - waaaaay too many for our needs. Quite a few choices in this price range, get the JVC KW-R710 and you won't be disappointed!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After searching for the best-lookin, best quality, most reasonably priced double din, the JVC KW-R710 is what I decided on. I absolutely got exactly what I thought I was going to get. I was hesitant to attempt to install this on my own as I'm more familiar with the mechanics of the car than I am with the electronics. So, I had someone supervise me, which turned out not to be necessary by any means. This is incredibly easy to install-- plug a few cables and twist a few wires, then bolt that bad boy in there! :) The sound is incredible. It made my stock Infinity speakers sound like brand new speakers. The max volume is pretty significant compared to my original unit. This stereo does just about everything you'd want it to do-- cd, radio, usb, audio jack, Pandora, I Heart Radio, etc.. There's not chance you'll be sitting in your car in the future thinking, "I really wish I had purchased this other unit because I wish I had this option for music right now," because this unit already has it all. There are so many different settings to play with, including to some awesome sound presets and customizable user presets, as well as the lights. Who can forget the lights? I was surprised by just how much you can customize the display. It looks awesome no matter how you set them!

Pros: Sound, customizable, lights, size, appearance, features, price, everything...

Cons: A better remote would be cool. However, its nothing to cry over. :)

    Unbelievable Difference!

GPark from Juliette Ga. on 3/6/2014

When this unit was installed in my 2007 Toyota Tacoma last weekend I really didn't know what to expect. But after the installation was complete I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The difference between factory and aftermarket systems is like night and day. It really DOES make a difference. The installation was not that difficult as long as you follow the mastersheet instructions. It takes you step by step through the install process. The look of the system is so cool. After installation it appears as though it was installed at the factory. The three different lighting features are an added plus. I ordered this system and a pair of Kenwood 6 1/2" speakers for about $140.00. If you were to purchase these same items at another retailer you would be out of pocket for well over $200.00. In short, aftermarket is the way to go. You can't go wrong with this system.

Pros: The look, the sound, the ease of installation.Good quality system. Lots of features for the money. You won't be disappointed with the JVC KW-R710 CD receiver. Highly recommended!!

Cons: No cons. It's just taking some time for me to learn everything this unit will do.

You'll also be able to control basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) from select music apps streamed to your iPhone. During Head Unit Mode, the KW-R710 will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information; such as Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, and Album label. Newer iPod/iPhones with iOS 6.0+ allow you to continue to access your Apple device's touchscreen in this mode in order to access other applications; older iPod/iPhone devices will be locked during connection.
    • iPod/iPhone Mode: The iPod/iPhone Mode lets you control your older iPod/iPhone (iOS 5.1.1 and earlier) from its clickwheel or touchscreen. You'll still have access to basic playback controls (like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track) from the head unit, but advanced navigation functions will be locked. No song/artist information is displayed in this mode. The unit will simply display "iPhone Mode".
Note: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. This unit does not charge the iPad. If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

    Audio Section

16 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KW-R710 utilizes a 16-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The JVC KW-R710 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KW-R710 are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)
Note: When you are using the KW-R710 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low," the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high," and the volume control will range from 0 to 50.

2.5V/4CH Preamp Output: The KW-R710 is equipped with two pair of 2.5V preamp outputs (Front, Rear/SW). You can set the Rear/SW preamp outputs for connecting a pair of full-range rear speakers (through an external amplifier) or for connecting a subwoofer (through an external amplifier). When set for rear speakers, the rear outputs operate with the unit's fader control. When set for subwoofer, the outputs are non-fading.

Subwoofer Controls: When the unit's Rear/SW preamp output is set to Subwoofer, you can set the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter at 55Hz, 85Hz, or 120Hz. You can also adjust the head unit's subwoofer level between -8 and +8 (separate from the main volume level).

Pro EQ: The KW-R710 is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 12 preset sound modes (Flat, Hard Rock, Jazz, Pop, R&B, Talk, vocal Boost, Bass Boost, Classical, Dance, User 1, or User 2) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User modes allow you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

    Pro EQ
    FrequencyLevelQ

    Treble10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 kHz+/- 12 dB (-6 to +6)Fixed
Note: You can store Pro EQ bass, middle and treble tone settings for each source (CD, AM/FM, Aux, USB, iPod, Pandora/iHeart Radio).

Sound Enhancements: The head unit provides further sound enhancements for your car audio system.

    • Digital Track Expander: The digital Track Expander utomatically enhances compressed music files and restores the original richness of the recording.
    • Bass Boost: The unit's Bass Boost enhances low bass frequencies.
    • Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can set this feature to High, Low, or Off.
    • Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -5 to +5.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Display Features

3 Zone Variable Color: The head unit's variable color illumination is separated into 3 Zones (Zone 1, Display Zone, and Zone 2). The KW-R710 offers 29 color presets and custom colors for each of these zones. You can choose one of these color presets or select the ColorFlow mode which scrolls through all 29 color presets. Additionally, there is a User preset, allowing you to individually adjust the intensity of Red, Green, and Blue from 0 to 31; resulting in approximately 30,000 custom color options. You can choose to use the same color for all 3 Zones, or use a different color for each separate Zone.

    • Zone 1: Zone 1 consists of the rotary knob and the push buttons around the knob, plus the Aux and USB input.
    • Display Zone: The Display Zone consists of the front-panel LCD.
    • Zone 2: Zone 2 consists of the Preset buttons and eject button.

Lighting Effects + Color Guide: You can select a preset color change pattern/speed for all 3 Zones (Zone 1, Display Zone, and Zone 2). Choose from Spectrum, Groove, Techno, Emotion, Relax, and Night Sweep. When activated, the Color Guide mode changes the display and all button illumination to white when menu settings or music list search are performed.

Brightness & Dimmer Control: The unit offers a daytime and nighttime brightness setting for the LCD, button, and USB input terminal. You can adjust the brightness level of each zone manually from 0-31. The unit's dimmer control can be set automatically or manually; select "Off" for daytime brightness setting, "On" for nighttime brightness setting, or "Auto" which switches between day and nighttime brightness setting automatically when you turn off/on the headlights (orange/white wire of harness must be connected to headlamp circuit).

Day & Time: The unit displays a 12-or 24-hour clock, as well as the day (Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat). The day & time can be selected to remain on, even if the head unit is switched off (as long as the vehicle's key is in the accessory or start position).

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned On or Off within the menu.

2-DIN Chassis: The JVC KW-R710 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double-DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is no mounting sleeve included for a Euro- or Custom-mount installation. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The KW-R710 comes supplied with a wireless remote control (RM-RK52). The remote contains Attenuator, Sound, Source, Tracking, and Volume functions. The remote operates off of a single CR2025 3V Lithium-cell battery (included).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: This JVC has two pairs of RCA pre-amp outputs, and one of them can be set to only output bass, specifically for a sub. You could connect any powered subwoofer to those outputs, or you could match a non-powered subwoofer up with an amplifier, and connect the amplifier to those outputs. Here's a great article about how to choose your subwoofer. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.[ Krissy  Oct 19, 2015 ]  Staff

i've had this stereo about 1.5 years now and have never had that issue. i have had the stereo mysteriously change the lighting effects from my setting to the display mode but that is the only issue i've had. other than that the stereo has been great for me.[ KEITH  May 15, 2015 ]
This JVC unit was a POS. My unit would shut down and the only way to bring it back was to hit the reset button. Every time I did this I would lose all of my custom settings. I pulled this POS from my car and tossed it in the garbage. Also every thing worked fine for about a month before it stated acting up. It progressively got worse.[ JUSTIN  May 15, 2015 ]
No. We have had no problems and couldn't be happier.[ YVETTE  May 14, 2015 ]
I have not experienced any issues as you noted. I have noted a second or less loss of power but, never lost time however.[ MICHAEL  May 14, 2015 ]

The buttons you are referring to come on a key chain so I do not think that is possible. They work great as is.[ Eric  Aug 07, 2014 ]
It doesn't come with the controls. It has the ability to use the controls that come stock on some cars. So to answer your question. No you won't but it does come with a remote.[ JOSEPH  Aug 06, 2014 ]
The question you are asking is hard to understand. There is not steering wheel button attachment with this product. That you buy separate. But it does not make sense to buy that adapter if your car doesn't already come with steering wheel buttons. I do have them on my 1999 Acura CL 2.3, however I didn't buy the steering wheel buttons adapter which I think costs 150 bucks! lol. I hope that helps. If your car does not come with steering wheel buttons, I don't see why you are asking this question. First you have to have a car with factory steering wheel buttons that control the audio from its factory reciever. I hope this helps.[ MARCELO  Aug 06, 2014 ]
Not positive I think so must cars have the space for the higher model functions just check your wheel you shoould be able too[ JOHN L  Aug 06, 2014 ]

No you can not, unless you change your steering wheel.[ PRENTIS  Aug 06, 2014 ]
I dont know if it would display phone call while it is hooked up to radio but it changes colors while playing. It sounds very good. easy to install. I would recommend this radio.[ lance  Aug 08, 2014 ]
Hello, So the display changes based on what mode your in. If your listening to the radio it says the stations name and sometimes the name of the artist and song. If your listening to the cd it will display the cd info. All in all I love this deck and highly recommend it for the price. And you will NOT need new speakers (at least not right away).[ ANTHONY  Aug 08, 2014 ]
The screen display can change colors and you can also select between the applications you are running or using (MP3, iPhone, iPod). We bought this for my Son's 2001 Celica GT and it fit great. With the kit we had installed in about an hour. Looks and sounds great. Did not need to change or upgrade the speakers. We watched a video on You Tube (highly recommend doing this) and it was a piece of cake to install. Hope that helps.[ Eric  Aug 07, 2014 ]
This is a great radio for the money and yes Susan it does display other features that come with the radio such as tuner and CD. One really cool feature is that this receiver can be set to different colors and also to change colors. I have learned also that if you type the make and model of your car, the website will tell you if the radio will fit your car. This makes the decision making much easier especially if you don't know much about cars and/or radios. Also, it is not necesary to get new speakers when you purchase a new receiver but with the age of your car being what it is I would recomend it. You don't want to put in a new receiver and be disapointed because the speakers won't perform to the new standard. I hope this helps and good luck with your new receiver. The folks at Crutchfield will make the whole process seemless and thier professional staff can answer all your questions after the sale as well.[ PHILLIP  Aug 07, 2014 ]
Well this indash is a "double din", which means that if you have a "single din" or a slim spot for your radio and cd and cassette player. You'll have to cut into your dash. The indash features cd fm/am pandora iheartradio and a usb port which works best with obviously apple products. It comes with a small remote that contols volume and skipping songs. You should only get speakers if the stock speakers are going out, so no you don't need new speakers. The wiring harness and antenna that you get when you buy the indash will connect the speakers and antenna for the radio. I enjoy the features that this indash has but if i am thinking right, 96 camrys have a single din indash.[ JAVIER  Aug 07, 2014 ]
This is a great unit that offers a lot of performance and features for the price. It displays the information about cd's and radio station call letters, clock and much more. It will also cycle through and display other functions. The colors change every few seconds and it has multiple colors. To use it with factory steering wheel controls, you have to buy an expensive adapter. You wouldn't have to get new speakers but they make a huge difference in most cars. My other vehicle is a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix and the factory speakers were total junk. Replacing the rear 6x9's and the front door speakers made a huge difference.[ Jimmy  Aug 07, 2014 ]
It's a basic double din radio that I bought for my cousin as a birthday gift for his truck. It sounds great with his stock speakers but his was also a lot newer truck. So the speakers could handle the wattage of the radio. I would suggest that you buy new speakers so you can enjoy the sound quality. As far as the display it's pretty analog in appearance. But the color is changeable to multiple settings in 3 zones. I own a Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS myself so I trust the brand.[ JOSEPH  Aug 06, 2014 ]
Hello Susan great choice for an upgrade for your Camry, if you are installing it yourself Crutchfield makes it very simple and easy my fiancé did it herself. This system has everything you need to enjoy all you music from the iPod connection, usb port Bluetooth and Pandora. The screen display all the function of any high end radio including the name of the person you are calling and the last several call you made and its also voice activated. my fiancé has a 1998 Lexus es300 and it made her speakers sounds much better. there is a lot you can do with this system she loves it.[ DELPHINUS  Aug 06, 2014 ]
I would replace the factory speakers because they just don't have quality sound I'm not sure what you're willing to spend but replace them with Ifinity, polk audio, or if those are too high get pioneer.[ JOHN L  Aug 06, 2014 ]
The display has many many options on what is displayed. I chose to leave the clock and radio station displayed full time. It briefly will change to let you know if you've changed inputs. For instance if you hook up your ipod or change to cd. I haven't fully learned all the options but that's what I know so far. As far as speakers, I am using the stock speakers and it sounds good. Better than the stock radio. I really like this radio and do highly recommend it. Hope my answers help.[ GREGORY A  Aug 06, 2014 ]
It will display the track and artist info on the radio and cd's. You do not need to replace speakers but it sure is fun if you do.[ GERID  Aug 06, 2014 ]

No, the faceplate isn't removable. The outer black piece that surrounds the stereo is actually a separate plastic piece that needs to be attached to the inside of the center console in order to fill in a slight gap that would surround the stereo if you left it out. It has two screw holes that will line up with the existing air vents in your truck. Once you get this piece in place and the stereo mounted, the dash will fit back perfectly.[ DARIN  Apr 02, 2014 ]
