JVC KW-R800BT

Discover the true power of Bluetooth®
Hands-free calling is the tip of the iceberg. With today's Bluetooth, you can pair up your iPhone, Android™ smartphone, or Blackberry™, and get some sweet functionality. For example, you'll be able to receive text message notification, stream music, or access Internet radio stations, depending on your phone's features.

JVC also lets you pair two phones at once, so there's no need to choose between your personal and business phones. When a call comes in, the receiver will blink either blue or red, so you'll know at a glance if your call is coming from home or the office. To answer a call, just tap the volume knob. And you can search your contacts alphabetically when you want to make a call out.

Great for iPod®, plus control Pandora®
Once you plug your iPod or iPhone® into the convenient front-panel USB input, you can use the KW-R800BT's oversized knob and buttons to navigate your music library. And with your iPhone connected, you can play your Pandora® Internet Radio stations from your dash, and even skip and rate songs like you do online.

Separated Variable-Color Display

What a display
Big, bold, and beautiful, JVC's Separated Variable-Color Display lets you dial in the perfect color for your taste. You can choose from over 30,000 options, and you can even assign different colors to your controls and the display — decorate your dash in honor of your favorite team, with your school colors, or simply complement your existing lighting. If you're undecided, the receiver can cycle through all the colors continually for a really neat effect.

Higher-power USB connection
JVC upped the power in their USB port, which lets you keep your smartphone charged, even when it's doing several tasks at once. And with your smartphone connected, you can listen to its internal memory as one source and access the little microSD card as another.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (see "Accessories") to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

Another Excellent Sound Choice from Crutchfield

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Live in a small river town all my life , the joys of music was a 8-track player and a match book too keep the tape in alliment then spun alot of classic rock like peter frampton , kiss , april wine , etc. You rockers in those old muscle cars ,windows down catching the wind and impressing the ladys with your sound system rockin !! Wow if we had a small version of what Crutchfield has to offer now < then we could had somthing that would had blown all their ears to a new twighlight of sound ! How ready was i for a change ? I wander why i waited soo long to get a experience of innovation that i would like to take the time to share 1970 now the year 2000 , i still like to roll down a window with a electric switch instead of a crank . And i still like too turn on a peice of electronics on with a remote from Crutchfield instead forgetting to bring matchbook or lossing it on the floor to help power that 8-track . The beginning of the buying experience , i didnt realize how important the representatives of the team played the most important roll , of i owning a sound sytem that made me happy and led me to all incredable choicesf what they could offer and wow they would in -gage or see that i had all tech support to launch a new breed of sound creation that will aiways seem to amaze me . Im very proud of being a part of the Crutchfield customer relations that keep me inform on all that is new and how i can improve what have , without being pressured , very impressed, satisfied

Pros: unit is one of the state of the art stereo and performs how one would expect and delivers fne line entertainment with crystal clear sounds that would amaze one. Also soo many features to explain , these days hands free mobile phones are a plus, its a new law in many states , alot of these units from Crutchfield, will also help ensure you to drive smart and safe and offer to suit ones needs!

Cons: sometimes there can be things without cons and Crutchfield provides those! A good place to thank the staff that answered the phone with courteous atomsphere and ongoing help to hook me up with a technition that would set me up with the right unit for i only , soo cool , made me feel important , phone call too technition answered questions quickly and professionally . Couldnt help from writing a little bit of something . Back to purchase set of front door speakers for my 2005 chevy

    Lots of great features

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It has all the features that I was looking for: great cd player, audio in jack, USB, Bluetooth, hands free cell phone operation. I didn't find the menus to be intuitive but once you get the hang of it they aren't too difficult to navigate. The hands free feature works very well with my Motorola Razr Maxx. I'm told that the audio quality is good from people on the other end of the phone conversation. The callers sound great through the JVC player. The lights get high marks on the coolness meter. The sound is very good.

    Pros: All the right features

Cons: Menus take a bit to figure out initially

Installed this in my '03 Jetta with Monsoon stereo and amplifier. . used the PAC RP4 adapter and couldn't be happier with the purchase. Called the techs at Crutchfield with a question and found them to be knowledgeable and very nice. Stereo looks great and sounds really nice - while adding bluetooth and modern features to an older vehicle.

Pros: Looks Bluetooth Good quality sound

    Cons: None, so far.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very pleased with this unit. The sound quality is really good, either using the radio, cd, aux or the BT phone option. The face design is attractive and controls are simple to use. The price was the deciding factor for me, which included all the options I wanted (face ports, HD FM stereo, and BT phone option. This until as a lot of function for a reasonable price.

Pros: BT phone, Aux port on face plate, sounds good.

    Cons: Nothing at this time.

    Absolutely love it!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The user interface on this is very user friendly. The sound quality is great! Doesn't need to be cranked up high for a great sound. It looks like and feels like a quality product. It would be great if it had android capabilities but not a deal breaker. I use it through my phone's blue tooth and the connection is spot on. The Bluetooth includes a Mic and has a cable on the back of the radio. It would look cleaner if it was flush but you won't see it any way.

Pros: Great display, build and sound quality

Cons: I wish it was fully android compatible.

    Unhappy.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The radio does what it does very well but I was very disappointed with the screen. If your dash is at an upward angle then the radio will be facing slightly up after the install, I have a 2007 Toyota sienna so with the large windshield all the light washes the screen out! It would have been nice if it came with another bracket to angle the radio so it's at eye level. If I sit up it's brighter. . . to bad, nice radio but not for my sienna. Another USB port would have been nice also. Will shop elsewhere from now on so I can check before purchase.

    Pros: Nice features.

Cons: Not good for cars with a radio that tilts slightly upwards.

Jersey Shore Feedback for My JVC Truck Stereo

MarcoT from Toms River, NJ on 1/22/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

JVC KW-R800BT is a great stereo for the cost. I appreciate Crutchfield's technical support in deciding which product best supports my F-250 Super Duty pickup. Crutchfield provided detailed installation instructions which allowed me to install my bluetooth-equipped car stereo in less than an hour (which included slightly modifying my dashboard). Providing the wire harness for free was also an added bonus!I love my product! Thank you Crutchfield!

Pros: Hands-free calling and music streaming by far makes my drive much safer and more enjoyable! I like the use of illuminated colors the JVC stereo provides to allow me to know which cell phone is ringing. The front USB port allows my sons to plug in their iPhones for charging and playing their iTunes when riding along. The sound quality of my factory-installed speakers also was a big improvement!

Cons: I wish I could choose my iPhone music playlists from the stereo while music streaming. I haven't had this product long. I'm hoping to take advantage of all the capabilities the JVC KW-R800BT provides.

    Was great while it lasted

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This stereo was great when it worked properly. I purchased this unit to use with my iPad. After approximately 4 months, the front USB port is no longer able to read the devices plugged into it. Unfortunately JVC seems to be requiring me to pull this unit out, pay to have it shipped to NY, wait 2-3 weeks, than maybe I get a repaired unit back?

Pros: Cool unit when it works.

Cons: Hardware failure after 4 months with poor warranty support.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First of all, shipping is very fast. Unit was received sooner than expected. I love all the different ways this unit is customizable. I highly recommend reading the owners manual thoroughly. Once you get the hang of the adjustments available it's really quite easy to operate. Husband couldn't say enough good things about the ease of installation. He said everything went in just like clock work. No adjusting what so ever. Overall very pleased with this unit. It definitely improved the sound of music in my 2005 corolla immensely and we didn't do anything with speakers or amps, etc. It paired flawlessly with the iPhone 5. Didn't need to input any pesky passwords at all. Nice. Definitely recommend this unit.

Pros: Sound quality, installation and ease of use once you get the hang of it which shouldn't take too long.

Cons: The only thing I'd consider a negative is the strange blinking square icon that flashes on upper right area of display. Seems like a waste of a good place to have put a full time clock display. You have to push the display button for the clock mode. But not a deal breaker by any means since my car has a full time clock display anyway but might be a big deal for others.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love the included usb input front and back. The bluetooth mic comes also with it but gets a lot if echoes. Cant use it most if time. Usb plugged into ipod is convenient but comes with a delay reading every once in a while. The screen shows the title but the display font size is too large and only allows for maybe 30% to be shown. The display also has an annoying scrolling box which is distractive. With all of these negatives i still believe the radio is worth the price and i have no regrets.

Pros: Quality and ease of use

    Cons: Mic and display

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put this in my 2006 F150 because I wanted an aux capability. I have never installed a stereo before but this was easy. The Bluetooth works good with my Motorola x2 smartphone. I didnt know if it would because I have not had any good luck with bluetooth before this. People I talk to say it is crystal clear. And I really like the hands free utility. I thought I was going to have to replace speakers also. Turns out it was just the stock stereo that was the limitation. This is louder clearer and has enough bang for my40 year old ears. I love the front USB port. Works great with my MP3 player(not Ipod) can control everything right from the front of the stereo. The color picking options are awesome. I have played with this option some. I decided(for right now) to match stock colors for the face and buttons. I might change it later. Because I can. Looks great in the dash. Like a pro install. Anyway this is the first aftermarket stereo I have purchased since I was 16 and I am well pleased. I also installed the JVC app for my phone and you can do some cool things there.

Pros: Price, cool colors, bluetooth and functionality.

Cons: I am sure there is a way around this. But whenever the stereo connects to the bluetooth the audio switches to bluetooth away from whatever you had it on. Then you have to switch it back. Just havent figured out how to fix that yet. Minor annoyance

I put this in a 2004 Chevy Silverado. Thus far this is a GREAT unit. It looks great in the dash, all the features work as advertised. It was easy to set up, I have it paired with two different Droid Smart Phones. Pandora works on both, the Bluetooth interface with the phone is easy to use, and very clear. So Far SO GOOD!!! I was afraid of the wiring at first, but the Crutchfield instructions were perfect and easy to follow!

Was a little nervous about self-installing this, but everything worked out simple enough. Installed in a 2005 Silverado in about 30 minutes after doing all the prep work to the stereo first. Prepped by connecting all wiring, removing external (pre-installed) bracket on in the box stereo, and (the hardest part) removing all the tabs on the supplied mounting bracket from Crutchfield. You need to remove almost all the plastic tabs from the bracket, so have a dremmel or small multipurpose cutting tool handy. The stereo itself sounds fantastic! Has so many options to enhance sound to the way you want to hear it, that I have not used them all yet. I cant rate the Bluetooth because I do not use it. If you put a mp3 disc in, it reads all titles and displays them. I rate this 5 stars for ease of installation and excellent sound quality.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit offers a ton of bang for your buck. It is definitely worth the money if you are looking for a double din budget bluetooth receiver, Bluetooth works great. It does take at least a minute to connect, but not a deal breaker for me. The USB does spend time "READING". I did not have the USB lag in the cheap Kenwood that I replaced. Sound quality is good, but using the EQ is cumbersome. Display is bright and variable colors is sweet. Display layout is sort of blah. A clock in the place of the radar thing would have been nice. Overall it is a nice inexpensive upgrade.

Pros: Bluetooth; Sound quality; Variable color options; Value

Cons: USB "READING" lag; EQ controls; Display layout

Great unit at a great price

    2006 Ford Mustang
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in a 2006 Mustang GT with the Shaker 500 system. First, a few notes on the Mustang install: 1. Read up on how to remove the connectors from the panel holding the radio. I could not, not, not get one off (has some kind of pivoting arm or something) so I had to leave the panel attached and I ended up scratching the face of the JVC radio on the panel during install. 2. The Shaker radio has 3 plugs going into it; the JVC radio only has 2 (radio & sub connectors). The third plug from the car is not used. I read it may be for auxiliary/sat radio. Don't panic like I initially did. 3. You don't need the antenna adapter for the radio (it's free, so no problem). The antenna lead--at least in my car--is very, very short and I had a heck of a time getting it seated into the JVC unit in the limited working space. The head unit itself is awesome. I already replaced my speakers with Infinity Kappa's. I did not think the sound difference between the Shaker and JVC would be so noticeable. I suggest reading the directions to set it up properly. It was not set up for "subwoofer" for the rear RCA outs from the factory; once I set that it made a huge difference in sound. Bluetooth connects fine. Sometimes it connects automatically, sometimes I have to connect manually through the phone. Also, the only way you can control Pandora from the JVC unit is to plug your iPhone into the USB; can't do it with Bluetooth. I am extremely happy with this radio. Great deal.

Pros: Crutchfield advisor (set me up with everything!); install sheets, etc. Fairly easy to navigate menus after reading the instructions. No problems streaming Pandora, Amazon Cloud tunes. Fairly easy, straightforward controls. Sound and power is great. I went with this over Pioneer b/c of the 20W RMS vs. 14W RMS. With the Shaker subs, it's pretty darn loud. Cannot comment on USB/Aux inputs as I have only used Bluetooth, radio, CD. (Have not used Bluetooth for calls yet) Simple to use cont

Cons: Display are is nothing to get excited about. If you want the nice fonts, you need the next model up. Pro EQ has sound settings I'm not sure about. Would like it explained more in the manual rather then me just tweaking by ear.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this unit in my 2007 Honda CR-V a few days ago. I'm still debating exactly how much I do or don't like it. I was pleasantly surprised how easily the main features work - namely, Bluetooth audio streaming and calling. It paired with ease with my Samsung Galaxy S3 (running Cyanogenmod). You can stream from any audio application, not just the JVC application (which is not good, and for which there is little reason to use). The problems I have are that the unit does not sit flush with my dash (although I blame Honda for this), and that for a big unit, it packs few display features. In fact, I would say that this unit offers little to no advantage over JVC's single-DIN units. They filled the extra space with some weird icons and lights whose functions are unclear - it would have been much better spent if they put a clock in the space! As others have mentioned, it is very irritating that seeing the clock requires pressing the "display" button, and that it does not show when turned off - but alas, this seems to be the way that all aftermarket stereos are going, for whatever reason.

Pros: Pairs with Bluetooth easily. Audio streaming and voice dialing work well. Sounds pretty good, certainly an upgrade over factory stereo. Good value for the price.

Cons: Design could use a refresh, especially the LCD. No clock displayed by default.

The best one I've found at this price range.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a nice and easy to use unit once you learn how the menu systems work. Installed into an 04 Hyundai Sonata and with the install kit and harness it was super easy. The unit looks factory yet better than stock. Sound quality was great even with the stock speakers. Color selections for the display and buttons is nice and the unit is easy to read in bright light, unlike the Kenwood in my other vehicle. Bluetooth setup was amazingly easy and call quality is good even on the highway. Highly recommended and hard to beat this value. You would have to spend much more to get better, in my opinion.

Pros: Easy to set up, looks great, easy to read, good Bluetooth sound quality. Nice to have different color settings for night, day, and menu.

Cons: No separate power antenna wire means that the car power antenna is always up regardless of what mode the stereo is in. Menu systems seem complicated at first.

After using the radio in colder weather (< 30F deg), the rear USB port will not work until the cabin and radio is warmed up a bit....5-10 min. As this is the port that the bluetooth comes hooked up to, you can't use your bluetooth (phone or music) until the unit warms up. However, the front USB will work right away....it just would've been nice to keep the bluetooth dongle tucked away. After talking to Crutchfield and RMA'ing the first unit, the replacement acts exactly the same. BTW....JVC manual says the operating temp for the unit is 32F - 104F, so there are no guarantees from JVC (and thus, Crutchfield) that the unit works at all outside that range....so buyers should be aware!

I couldn't be happier with the radio and Crutchfield's support and customer service team. I installed it a year ago to replace my Mach radio in my Mustang GT and couldn't be happier. The installation kit and wiring harness worked flawlessly. I didn't want to take a chance on bad connections so I soldered and used shrink tube on them. The reason I'm commending Crutchfield is the first radio I received ended up having ignition noise very shortly after the install. Tech support worked with me, couldn't identify the problem then customer service did a no hassle replacement. The second one has worked great. This is an excellent radio and the Bluetooth, USB work terrific. I've recommend this same radio to friends who have bought and liked it. Also I get "Where did you get that radio? It's cool." from guest passengers.

Pros: Workes & sounds great, built in bluetooth, easy to read display, custom color display/buttons, multiple sound options for music and talk radio

Cons: None but a comment - Could be a learning curve if you not used to the multifuction devices like smartphones

It was fairly easy to install although I had to call a few times for advice, but I have zero experience with these so I was pretty proud I did it myself. The display is awesome and the sound quality is three times better than my stock radio even though my car isn't very old. Bottom line is I love this radio and I would definitely go with JVC.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this model for my son's 2005 Hyundai Elantra and liked it so much I bought a second for my 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix. Installation in both vehicles was very simple. It took longer to connect the wires from the JVC to the GMOS factory adapter than it did to install it in the car. Overall it works as expected and the sound quality is much better than either factory stereo. I noticed some people complained about the time it takes to load songs from a USB drive. I put in a 4GB mini USB drive and just live it in the front USB slot. It doesn't event stick out farther than the volume button. My drive is 99% full of music at 160kbs. This gives me about 1000 songs organized in folder by artist then album. I have probably 100 folders. Takes about 2-3 seconds to load - perfectly acceptable time. The bluetooth with my phone is okay (Samsung Stellar). It works better with a Nexxus.

Pros: Great price for the feature set - USB, bluetooth, high power output.

Cons: Bluetooth takes a little tweaking to get the sound right.

I wanted to bring myself up to modern technology in my 2003Tundra - Crutchfield made it easy to narrow down my install choices - went with this product - I am a novice on this stuff - never had an aftermarket product like this - but my expectations are met. Only issue is bluetooth wire/microphone - where to put it for best sound quality and also it takes a minute for the bluetooth to connet once you trun back on unit.

Pros: Looks great, all features work as advertised, upgrades my vehicle and was easy to install once I get the proper jump start from customer service team, seems to be a nice value for all you get and how great it looks.

Cons: Blue tooth lags a bit upon re-entry to vehicle/turning on unit - and sound quality of hands free phone appears to be spotty - sometimes its OK but other times hard to hear me clearly - so that can be irritating. Also, setting your radio favorites seems a bit involved after you set the first 6 stations. Directions were not clear enough for my novice self to figure it out.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced an OEM VW Monsoon 2-DIN in a 2004 Passat Wagon GLX with this unit, based on reviews here. It took me a long time to sort out the wire-to-wire relationships between the head unit, the OEM adapter and steering wheel adapter. Finding space in the dash for everything was quite a challenge. Everything works but the steering wheel adapter, which didn't program the way the docs said it should. I'll reprogram later. Crutchfield-provided dash adapter was unnecessary and didn't actually fit. It took me a while to figure that out. Fascia provided by JVC worked perfectly. Comprehensive setup menu, allowing for color setting, etc. Setup interface isn't intuitive, but once you figure it out, you shouldn't have to adjust it much in the future. Sound quality is very good, like lifting a blanket off the music, compared to stock. It's almost baffling. With the EQ sweeteners, it's even more dramatic, of course. I hear bass I didn't know was possible in my speakers. Everything from classical to hip-hop, folk to dubstep is bold and bright and very enjoyable, whether CD or MP3 via USB or Bluetooth. You can keep the Bluetooth adapter attached to the rear USB cable and stuff it in the dash and it will pick up your phone (up to 2) just fine. I snaked the provided microphone under the dash to the steering column where it lives now. The unit loses the Bluetooth connection sometimes between phone calls and audio (iTunes or Spotify), but it might be the iPhone's fault. Easy to reconnect.

Pros: Excellent sound Easy to use Big volume wheel Bluetooth for hands-free and audio is agnostic--use whichever audio app you want (JVC has some too)

Cons: Unintuitive menu navigation Bluetooth doesn't always reconnect after switching between phone and music (but might be phone's fault) Head unit + OEM adapter + steering wheel adapter + cables take up much more room than OEM head unit

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product was returned to Crutchfield. Our primary reason for replacing the head unit in my wife's car was to add bluetooth media streaming and phone support. We found the bluetooth functionality to be erratic. Sometimes the phone would connect, sometimes not; sometime music would play as expected, sometimes not. The phones we use work fine in my Acura. I was disappointed to learn the head unit was not smart enough to raise the automatic antenna only when needed as the factory unit did. But, I was told this is typical of most aftermarket head units. And despite following all installation instructions, we experienced what I assume was alternator whine coming through the speakers. This unit was replacing a BOSE factory unit in a 2003 Miata, and we left the external amplifier in place. I have read that these systems are notoriously unfriendly to after market head units. In my case, that was apparently true.

    Pros: Good value, Crutchfield support.

    Cons: Compatibility and reliability.

This head unit is NOT compatible with the iPod Classic. I bought a brand new (July 2013) iPod Classic and had problems with it playing through the unit. A track would play for 45 seconds, the JVC would "search" for the iPod, find it, and repeat the process. I worked with Crutchfield and they sent me a new JVC; the same problem occurred with the new unit. I went to a certified JVC repair shop and they were baffled. It works fine with the iPod Touch as well as the iPhone. The reason I want to use the Classic is that it holds 160 gigs of music; I could tuck the iPod away and never have to worry about my music again. Also, JVC has horrible customer service ever since the company has fallen apart and been absorbed by Kenwood. The tech help department had no clue what to do for me. It's a shame, really. So, buyer beware! This unit does not work with iPod Classics. It DOES work with the Touch and Phone so if that is ok with you, go ahead and get it! That said, the JVC is a decent unit for the price. It is a solid and inexpensive replacement for a factory head unit. In short, the unit shouldn't be expected to do great things because of the price. Good bang for the buck if you need an inexpensive double-DIN unit.

Pros: Nice to have to ProEQ, custom illumination settings, and the dual USB slots.

Cons: Does not work with iPod Classic, as advertised. The front USB slot is very touchy; if the cable gets jostled in the slightest, the connectivity is disturbed. The clock won't stay on when the unit is off; it does come on with the push of a button but fades out after a few seconds.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This stereo seems to be really nice - especially for the cost. The only flaw that I see is that the bluetooth seems to take about 15 seconds to connect. This is especially annoying when the car is off, but accessory on and listening to music. Then when start the car, it seems to take forever to re-attach to bluetooth. I am using iPhone 5. I have used factory installed bluetooth in rental cars, etc. and it seems that they all connect immediately. No waiting. It's pretty annoying.

    Pros: Nice stereo

Cons: Bluetooth takes long time to connect. Annoying.

    2002 Mazda Protege5
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Perfect fit in 2002 Mazda Protege 5. The free mounting brackets didn't seem to be the right size at all (even w/ all mounting brackets removed from the new receiver), even though they were labeled for a 2002 protege5, but the receiver fits perfectly as-is into the dash- I selected this receiver b/c of it's rated compatibility without mods. Google Nexus 4 with Spotify works flawlessly! Fwd/back works on the unit to move to the next song in the playlist on my phone. Notes on BT for Android 4.3: I use "Tags for Android" NFC tags and the "NFC Task Launcher" so when I enter the car, I touch the NFC tag to my phone and it 1) enables BT, 2) enables BT discoverable, and 3) connects to the JVC BT device. I just put my phone on the NFC tag, then hit "OK" on the phone's popup to connect, and it connects flawlessly every time. Since it already knows the JVC BT, there's no searching, connects in 2 sec. I've got the BT receiver in the rear USB, and it's just hanging down into to the guts of my car. I was planning on rerouting it for better connection, but it works just fine, even with the phone in the back seat. For people who are having trouble connecting, I think it's usually because haven't enabled your phone to be discoverable by the unit, so it fails to connect. I had trouble until I figured that out, but now it connects every time, and hasn't dropped the connection ever. Front USB does not appear to charge my phone, but I haven't had time to troubleshot yet.

Pros: Spotify (premium) works perfectly over bluetooth! Bluetooth connection is rock-solid as long as my data connection is solid- sometimes BT playback pauses, but when you look at the phone, it's because it's lost data connection.

Cons: as others have stated, no automatic clock display. Kinda stupid. haven't gotten USB to charge my phone yet, but I still need to play around before I declare it nonfunctional.

Excellent way to get Bluetooth compatibility into your vehicle, I have a basic phone and an iPod touch, the JVC handles both at the same time, one seamlessly interrupting the other as required with no need for re-pairing whatsoever. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The radio is just ok for the price it works. The Bluetooth should connect quicker, the Sony head units in the past worked much better leaving me wishing I had chosen a Sony again, once connected and the remote mic work very well, even control of the phone via Bluetooth is slow. It took a few days for me to get used to the fact that when the phones rings and you push the button to answer it takes a few for the phone to kick over and pick up slower then the Sony unit I had in a previous car. Sound quality is good through the factory speakers, radio reception is good as well. Bluetooth control of Pandora is again OK but works, audio playback of media player is very good and works well. The big plus is I can connect both mine and my wife's phone to the radio at the same time so who ever has the car it is synced no extra steps.

Pros: Two phones connected via Bluetooth at the same time

Cons: Bluetooth connection, time between pushing the button to something happening. If your radio sits high in the dash the display is hard to see on sunny days. I would love it if there was a way to display the clock when the radio is powered off.

2003 VW Passat Wagon GLX 4Motion HU was dying (no tape, FM modulator for IPod, twitchy tone buttons, etc. All that's in the past. This unit rocks! Installation was very detailed, and the steering wheel control adapter is a welcome accessory. The difference between the stock unit and this one is night and day. Fitment is not easy, but if you follow well-documented directions (hint, pick the one-to-one correlated wires first), the installation falls into place. The plastic adapter for fitment was totally useless in this model. Just make sure the bulky extras (steering wheel adapter, antenna, and bluetooth microphone) are tucked safely out of the way (no need to cut into the existing hardware, just take your time and put things in the proper place). I tried the radio, the bluetooth (HTC EVO Shift 4G) for music and telephone, PANDORA, and the aux jack. Clarity is superb. This is not audiophile quality (what do you want for this price?!?), but it sounds clear and crisp, with adequate bass and good treble. 3 Band EQ is helpful, but again, don't expect too much. For replacing a stock unit, this is fantastic!

Pros: Steering wheel controls, lighting to fit existing interior color scheme, multiple audio options (radio, cd, iPod, bluetooth and PANDORA. Relatively easy to install (lots of wires, but the order is clear).

Cons: No balance/fader controls, IPod shuffle not supported via usb (but aux will play just fine), tight fit, especially with the antenna, sterring wheel adapter, and bluetooth mic. Take your time, and don't tie things up until you test it all out.

For someone who hasn't installed an aftermarket stereo in 15-20 years, this installed very easily with the included directions and mounting kit. I lost the modiocre sub on my Honda Pilot by installing this, but I don't miss it at all. This receiver is much clearer and more powerful than the stock deck. I plan to swap speakers and potentially add a powerpack down the road. Bluetooth connected fairly easily to 2 phones (iphone 4 and droid) using the rear usb, the microphone works well, and the front usb/ipod connection works great! My biggest complaint is the display during the day time. It could be the angle of my vehicle's mounting/dash, but the glossy display is tough to see in the daylight, especially if you try to leave the "rotating color" feature on. My seat is not overly reclined and I'm about 6'... just seems it should be easier to see. Overall, a great deck.

I read through some of the post on Miata.net of other owners who have swapped out the factory stereos for upgraded audio equipemnt. Next I read through a lot of the reviews on Crutchfields website. When my JVC arrived, I sat down and read through all of the installation paperwork. Started at 9am on a Sunday morning - taking my time and being careful not to break any of the trim plastic, I had the old unit out within 15-20 minutes. Next started the wiring process, making sure all of the connections were securely crimped and wrapped with quality electrical tape, then plugged in the connection to the JVC head and tested all sound processes, bluetooth etc. Everything sounded great after I adjusted the Scosche Amp Interface. Plenty of power with the factory Bose amp and speakers. Took A LOT of finagling to get the new unit into the dash. I used a string wrapped around the Scosche piece to pull it downward through an opening in the side panel toward the floorboard (nice tip from a Crutchfield CSR) and finally the unit just slid into place, buttoned up the factory trim and cruised on down the road listening to the best sound I have ever heard in any car that I have owned. Took about three hours total, but I work slow and methodical. Thanks Crutchfield!

Pros: Makes my Bose Amp and Speakers come alive. Has everything you could ask for; Bluetooth, Ipod connection etc.

Anyway, I found it an awesome unit and it looks great in my wife's 2007 Silverado Crew Cab. "New body style". That's important, make sure you know what body style you have, Classic or New Body Style when ordering anything for your truck. There is a difference in add on components. You see I also ordered the adaptor to keep On Star and an additional adaptor to use steering wheel controls. Ordered wrong one first time. A big Thank You to Crutchfield's technical support team. 2012 Toyota Tundra
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is pretty cool. The color selection thing allows you to match your dash lights, and you can choose different colors for the LCD display and button panel. The menus are pretty tough to navigate. You won't be able to make a minor EQ or audio adjustment without taking your eyes off the road for a little too long. The weirdest thing is that the sub channel isn't separate. There are separate controls for sub on/off, level, and low pass, but the sub is affected by the bass adjustment on the main EQ the same way as the door speakers, and I'm not used to that. As far as sound quality, I can't really comment. I'm running it through the factory speakers (which are garbage). It sounds 100% better, but still not great. The bluetooth thing not being built in is dopey (it takes up one of the USB ports, but still leaves one). The USB audio is pretty good, I especially like that it will handle ALL of the folders on my flash drive (A lot of units cut you off, and rarely advertise what that limit is). It will do, but I thought it was a little expensive for what I got.

Pros: Bluetooth works great, color selection is neat, reads all the folders on my flash drive.

Cons: Too expensive, menus hard to navigate, not crazy about it, but it will do.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The stereo is great. There was a little confusion about the correct harness so I had to call and chat but Crutchfield resolved that quickly. As others have mentioned if you want to utilize the dimmer feature with the headlights you have to isolate and patch into that on your own (06 Highlander it was a green wire). Installation would have taken less time had the instructions been a bit more detailed; I had to figure out that I needed to remove a lot of the parts attached to the radio as it ships in order to fit it into the slot appropriately.

Pros: all the features it lists and ability to customize color scheme, Bluetooth is great, good sound...

Cons: -having to cough up extra $$ for the steering wheel controls (I did not purchase it). -radio controls don't run Pandora (I think it will work with other phones though). -main dial feels a bit flimsy, hope it holds up.

The radio is amazing compared to the stock radio in my 2007 VW Rabbit but that is not why I'm writing this review. Crutchfield's customer service is amazing. I called at wits end about a fried stock radio having no idea how to install an aftermarket radio. They walked me through exactly what I needed. Their prices are a little more than Amazon's but without their help I would have never gotten the correct in dash receiver kit or the correct in dash interface. Everything arrived quickly and it was exactly what I needed. When I called about a wiring question the individual on the phone answered my question without even needing to look it up. They had me up and running from opening the container to a finished install in an hour and half. I am pleased with my experience and would purchase from them again.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my 4th car stereo installing on my cars by myself & 2nd time purchasing from Crutchfield. If you are reading all these reviews here and thinking to buy it at other online store to save few bucks, stop and buy it here. This purchase came with all necessary parts especially when my car is British, it saved money, time, and frustration (and they all came for free!!). Even with the instruction of how to remove the stock audio, it was true one-stop shopping. The music quality is great on my normal 4-speaker system. With the installation kits, fitting is almost perfect (wish the stereo face can be more perfectly flushed but I am satisfied). Sound is loud enough. Equalizer is nothing special. It has some preset sound modes and seems to be doing their jobs. Many buttons and many functions - I don't think I will use half of it but using basic functions are no-brainier. I have iPod but use Android phone so have not experience with its USB connection for iPod yet. But the Bluetooth connection with my Android phone does pretty much everything including displaying music info. Bluetooth audio quality is great. Also, the included microphone (rear connected) is sensitive and picks up your voice pretty well. I still have not decided where to mount it but I will figure it out. Overall, one of the best-value purchases for me this year!

Pros: Values; almost impossible to find this quality, this functions, and this much parts supply at this price Easy installation; Plug and play. Since the wiring adapter was provided by Crutchfield, I was able to connect the adapter to the connector from JVC then just plug in. Illumination color: very many color options for illumination. So, whichever your car interior illumination color is for other parts of your dash board, you will be able to find a similar color

Cons: (Someone mentioned) Wish the clock is always on even when the stereo is turned off (Someone mentioned) Bluetooth is not built in but included meaning the rear USB is occupied. Wish it is built-in instead Bluetooth connect is a bit tricky - it is hit or miss. It normally takes 5~10sec after the engine is turned on but if your phone is not paired after than, most likely you will have to turn off the stereo and turn it back on.

OEM radio for my 2001 Toyota Camry double din no longer worked and found the JVC KW-R800BT as one of many replacement options. So far it has been a great product. Can't beat the price, free shipping, and awesome customer service. Very easy to install with the included free factory radio harness. I had questions about bypassing the factory amp. Dolly, my sales rep, helped to reassure me on how the harness would bypass the factory amp and where to locate for removal. If you are looking for a OEM replacement radio, this unit has all the bells and whistles. If you have a smartphone and like to listen to music, make or receive calls on the road, need a USB port to charge your device and also hear your GPS enabled device provide you directions over your car audio system, this is the device for you.

Pros: Bluetooth streaming, BT hands free, Pandora, variable/customize lights for buttons and display, variable equalizer for low, mid and highs, rear amp out for stereo speaker or subwoofers/built in preamp, high pass filter for cabin speakers to allow all low freq to be channeled into subs, great sound quality even with stock OEM speakers, easy to use and simple user interface.

Cons: All features/options are hidden and needs to be unlocked even to adjust bass and treble. Good if you have kids.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this to upgrade my stereo in my Ford F-150. Shipping was fast and as expected. I paid for next day air and it arrived on time. Items were packaged in the box securely and nothing was backordered, which was nice. Installation of unit was quite simple. I managed to get everything to fit and work on the first go so I was pretty stoked about that. Instructions that came, both from Crutchfield and with the unit itself were easy to follow and understand. I've only played with the unit for a little bit, but it seems very nice. Sound quality is great, especially when streaming from Bluetooth. I use an Android phone with CyanogenMod 10.1.2 installed for my streaming and it works perfectly. Pairing was effortless. I can also use my favourite media player instead of a JVC branded player. I like this because my preferred player is better. I don't get tags showing up, but that's my fault, not a problem with JVC. CDs work to be expected. Radio works just like expected. Lots of presets. Almost too many! The colour effects are cool! There are a lot of options and settings to play with and that can get overwhelming for someone who is very OCD like I am. Once again, not a JVC problem.

Pros: Everything worked out of the box; sound is excellent; bluetooth is well done and works perfectly; phone calling is clear and works fine; remote isn't too overwhelming and works for what it needs to do.

Cons: Lots of different options can be overwhelming; installation can be tricky.

Pros: Ease to navigate through system. Sound quality better than factory stereo. Quality product. Great sound.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My factory CD Radio sounded terrible in my 2001 Xterra so I decided to get a new double DIN head unit and new speakers. I researched a bit and I narrowed it down to two units, this one and a Kenwood unit. I went with the JVC because the Kenwood has a 500 folder limit if you're playing music from a USB thumb drive. My 128 GB USB drive has 950 folders. I love the fact that I have all of my 850 CDs ripped into a little USB thumb drive that I can take with me anywhere. The JVC unit reads and plays all of my files with no problems. I wish the Bluetooth was built into the unit but the adapter works well enough that I am not going to take any points off. The biggest surprise was the difference in sound compared to the stock radio. Big big difference. Sometimes I think maybe I shouldn't get new speakers. That's how big the difference was. Installation was very easy in my car. I didn't even need the installation kit. It was a direct fit. I want to add that the Crutchfield service is top notch as it has always been. Their prices are not the best but when you add the free wiring kit and the dashboard bezel that they give you for free (together with installation instructions) it makes it worth it paying a bit more for great customer service. I have bought all my car stereo components for my cars from Crutchfield and will continue to do so in the future.

Pros: Good value, plays all my music from a 128 gb usb thumb drive, great sound imrovement over the stock unit.

    Cons: Bluetooth not built-in.

A great stereo overall. I looked at others about 2 years ago but my wife didn't really think she needed the upgrade. Now she has a new car and I have her SUV which now had a broken factory CD player. This was in my price range and had more a lot of features that weren't available even two years ago in this price range. Overall a great unit and easy to install. Be prepared to read the operator's manual however if you want to get most of the features of this unit.

Pros: Looks good, sounds great. Clear bluetooth connection for both phone and voice. Good controls for Pandora and iPhone.

Cons: I had to remount the microphone (included) in the corner of the roof near the visor on the pillar. The first location I tried (near the gauge cluster) didn't sound very good. Moving the mic fixed that easily.

I needed a deck that easily interfaced with my iPod so that I could do audio books and my CDs without having to fumble with the discs while driving. I also wanted a hands-free solution through bluetooth for handling calls. This JVC model hit tops in satisfying all my needs, as well as providing great sound and am/fm receiver features. I ran the rear USB using the provided cable to my glovebox ... I use it for my blue tooth, I could use it for my ipod and the ipod would always be out of sight in the glove box. Installation was a snap, particularly with the screw-on wire connectors I ordered to go with the kit. I had one small problem installing the adapter for the steering wheel controls--within 5 minutes I had it fixed with the competent help of the tech support team at Cruthfield.

Pros: Easy to install Included blue tooth, which was easy to sync with my iphone and blackberry Supports two concurrent blue tooth sessions Using a small thumb drive, I can keep my audio books all on one small usb drive that is practically out of sight.

    Cons: It doesn't self-install!

I finally decided to go back to a double-din unit after initially replacing the factory one with a single din. I have not been disappointed. For the features packed into the unit, the value is exceptional. The 2 USB ports are a plus, although you lose the rear one to the bluetooth adapter (which is included). The sound quality is so much of an improvement over other units I have looked at and the number of equalizer presets helps you find the best one for your listening tastes without having to spend a lot of time tweaking settings manually. The loudness setting has been improved on by JVC also. The menus can be a little confusing at first (and frustrating at times) to learn. It took me a few days of playing with the unit before I learned all of the menus. But once you do get them down, the operation is fairly easy and innovative. The instructions provide a great detailed mapping of the operation of the unit. The design is sleek and melds well with the dashboard. The color settings help you to personalize the look of the lights to match what your current dash lights are or you can use a custom color. You also have the ability to set different colors for different zones and a separate color to notify you of incoming calls from connected bluetooth phones (pretty cool actually). As far as the build quality, it is solid. I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone looking to get rid of a factory double-din unit

Pros: Features, price, and quality (sound and build).

Cons: Menus take a little getting used to, especially if you are moving over from an older JVC unit. Once learned though, they become a Pro.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great double-DIN unit. I used it to replace the stock unit in my 2008 Subaru Outback so I could have Bluetooth calling and play MP3's off USB sticks. It works great. My complaints, such as they are, are all very minor. I would like it if the Bluetooth was fully integrated instead of taking up my USB port. I would like it if the Bluetooth dongle didn't have a green blinking LED in it that clashes with my carefully-set OEM-matched unit colors. I would like a less-reflective face, since it washes out a bit in some light conditions. I wish it didn't have to spend a minute re-scanning my USB stick every time I turn on the car (my wife's car, a Mini with an OEM stereo, only has to re-scan USB sticks when you change its contents...normally it picks up the music immediately when you start the car). These are tiny little complaints though. Overall I'm very, very happy with the unit. I especially like that the colors are all configurable so you can get a good, near-OEM look...even if your OEM does weird things. My Subaru has white labels on the dash during the day, but they illuminate red at night. This unit let me match that behavior nearly perfectly, with a bit of patient configuration.

Pros: Great unit, modernize an older car with Bluetooth and USB stick support

Cons: Too reflective, has to spend a minute re-scanning USB sticks every time you start the car before the music starts.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I chose this head unit because it works with the Sirius Connect system for the Sirius portable radio tuner (with lifetime subscription) that I have had for a few years. The Crutchfield-supplied wiring harness and attached black box (for my 2002 VW Golf with Monsoon system) was easy to connect. I wound up not using the Crutchfield installation sleeve because it would have been difficult to remove the unit for repairs of modifications - fortunately, the JVC installation sleeve worked just perfectly. The JVC unit performs flawlessly: bluetooth telephone, front USB for music, Sirius interface via Sirius Connect. Sound is excellent, better than the factory unit, which was fairly good. The color options allow me to match the display and buttons to the VW instruments, and the display automatically dims when the headlight switch is turned on at night. Controls are very intuitive - even my wife is not intimidated! This system is well-integrated, and works as well as the factory unit (Sirius/bluetooth/media port) in my 2011 Jetta Sportwagen.

I bought this to replace the factory receiver in my 2004 Subaru Forester. After wiring the harness to the receiver connection, everything else was mostly a snap. This is my first receiver installation and its pretty simple. It sounds great, looks very nice, and fits perfectly. There are A LOT of functions, so read the book. Seriously. Things to take note: Even if you don't have a power antenna, wire the JVC blue/white wire to the harness blue wire otherwise AM will not come in. (I had to call Tech Support for this, and they were very helpful.) There will be a few plugs you take out of the factory stereo that will not be needed for this one. (I left them back there for possible future use.) You need to remove the outside metal pocket from this receiver before attached the brackets from the factory one. Connect the battery and make sure everything works before replacing all of the paneling and plugging in everything else (hazard power, lighter, A/C, etc). Then, disconnect it again and reattach the other stuff to avoid having to go back in if, for instance, your AM is not working. Don't forget to removed CDs from the factory receiver. Yeah, I did that.

Pros: Great sound, looks good, not too difficult to install.

We desperately needed to find a replacement for the factory job. Bluetooth for the iPHONE & Music was essential. We tried a single DIN unit, the the complexity of a feature rich system made controlling that a hazard. The solution was a Double DIN device that had multiple control buttons and large Display. Crutchfield always has the best price for what5 I want when I want it. The JVC KW-R800BT just happened to be on sale the day I called in. I ordered it and it was here in 3 days. The sound is great... we are running 4 coax Polk 6.5" speakers. The large buttons combined with the Steering wheel interface make changing sources, muting, answering a call very easy and minimally distracting. Even the remote is handy and doesnt require you to look at it to operate. And It was easy to install (that's what the Geeks said).

Pros: Great prince, solid sound (source EQ is great), large display and the blue tooth is working fine (now that we know what it will do)

Cons: Display does not display in Neg Mode so I can look at dark letters/num. on a light screen. No programmable multifunction buttons. Phone has too much echo and not enough troubleshooting to fix it.

I replaced the factory radio in my 2006 Nissan Xterra with this one. I've used it for a few weeks now and it works great. The factory radio sounded terrible and this one brings my speakers to life. Multiple preset sound settings allow for custom optimization as well as user-defined settings. The Bluetooth works well and recognizes 2 phones continuously. What really sold me on this radio, aside from the positive reviews, was the ability to change the display color to match the red and orange lighting Nissan uses. Additionally, the dimmer settings are great too. There are day and night settings, as well as a feature that dims when using headlights/parking lights. The only complaint I have is that the display tends to wash out in direct sunlight due to the high-gloss display and the angle at which the radio is mounted. Overall, this radio does a lot for not much money, and I highly recommend it.

Pros: Bluetooth, multiple display color options, ease of use, sound quality, display, price

It was even better being able to put in the make and model of my car to find what would fit. When I had a question, the live chat was incredible. Even though my question was a bit stupid, the representative didn't make me feel stupid. I can't say much about the ease of install because my brother did that for me. It didn't take him very long to install, and he thought the kit that came with it fit perfectly. I really love the unit though. It is easy to use. So far I have not had any problems. Crutchfield's fit information warned that the unit would not fit....but it does indeed fit perfectly. The unit is everything I expected.... and now I have iphone connectivity via bluetooth! Actually...I have two of these units...Purchased the same for my 2003 Chevrolet s10 zr2.....

JVC produces units that work well and are generally intuitive to use. This one is no exception. It's a nice double DIN that sounds good with stock speakers and a sub because of the ability to shape its sound. It works well with my Casio phone via Bluetooth with my stored music and with Pandora and was an easy fit in a Tacoma.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great radio. I installed it into my Tacoma double cab long bed pick up (2009) without difficulty. The factory installed radio came out easily. I had originally ordered the wrong wiring harnesses for the new radio. I had to wait for these and once they arrived - Bingo. The sound is great. The blue tooth is terrific. I can easily make hands free calls with my I phone that is a tremendous plus. I can also listen to my Pandora App and I tunes on my I phone through the Bluetooth device and the sound quality is terrific. We're going to by another JVC for my son's Tacoma as well. Great Value and sound.

Pros: Great sound, fits well and neatly into the Tacoma. Bluetooth is great with my I phone.

Cons: Wiring took time. This was my first radio installation, however.

This receiver is a great value for the money. It has a build quality, great features, and a front / rear USB port for your smartphone. The sound quality is good even with factory speakers. You can't beat it for the price!!!!

Pros: Cool colers to choose from. Bluetooth supports Iphone 5. Two USB ports 1 front - 1 rear. Crutchfield support is excellent.

Cons: Changing channels with buttons versus a knob is a little annoying while driving, but not a deal breaker. You will have to read the instructions to learn some basic features that you should be able to figure out without the instructions. Still a fantastic buy either way.

It's only been in my 2003 Toyota Tundra for a day, but from install to use on my first drive with it, I'm extremely happy. I like the way you can customize the colors to look more like the stock dash board lighting so it really looks less aftermarket and a little classier. It sync'd up right away with my iPhone as I wanted it to and i was able to immediately begin making calls hands- free. No more ear-buds or blue tooth ear pieces! Crutchfield also did a great job in setting me on the right path with all the things I needed to install it in my truck. Its really quite amazing how good they are, and when I got to a spot where I had a question, I online chat'd them and followed up with a phone call to a tech and within 60 seconds he helped me see a step I overlooked. I'm a happy customer. I'll prolly be back to upgrade my wife's stock system next. Thanks Crutchfield!

Pros: Customizable colors in all displays and buttons. Option to silence button beeps, ease of set up, USB on the back and front, Aux input right on the front, comes with an optional microphone

Cons: Shiny black plastic in places. I'd prefer matted black. That's all I can come up with.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I mainly bought this particular receiver as it was the least expensive double DIN that had USB front and rear, and fit my car. I had no use for bluetooth (or so I thought) I just wanted to hook up a USB device with tons of music to the rear port and charge my phone off the front. It does everything I wanted it to do and then some. The FM brings in more stations than the factory radio, plus stations that used to seem a bit weak are clearer now. All the controls and features are very easy to use. I wouldn't go so far as to call them intuitive but it only took me a half dozen trips to the instruction manual to get it up and running and fully programmed. I even programmed the display colors to match my cars dash lighting. Oh, I almost forgot. I paired my phone to this receiver just because I could and to see what all the fuss over bluetooth was about. Frankly I won't be without it now. It's sooo "Star Trek". Kirk out.

Pros: Good power for stock speakers that need a little help. Good list of useful features without being overly complicated. Love having bluetooth and USB hookups.

Cons: I started by trying a USB computer hard drive like you would use for computer back-ups. I reformatted a Toshiba Canvio 320 GB to FAT32 and filled it with music. It worked but too slow. It took 10 to 15 minutes to read the drive and start playing music. every time you turned it on. This is a function of the receiver and not the drive as a tried it on my wife's Sony unit and it read much faster. It's really a moot point as though as USB's are much bigger and cheaper now.

Replaced a single din pioneer unit that I will be moving to my 96 Ranger. Love the big display, and the colors, and especially, the day/ night colors option. Wiring kit was excellent as always. I had to chop up the plastic install kit way more than shown, but it is a well built, good look ing install. I got the idatalink Maestro steering wheel control adapter and it is fantastic! Other than a couple of place where I miss read the instructions, it was slick, quick, and just WORKS! The iPod control is quite good. On this installation, I moved the location from the armrest storage area into the glove box. Easier to run the wires as I don't have to remove the center console.Haven't used the bluetooth yet. (Just installed today) But it paired on the second try, and again, the problem was with me, not the equipment! I wish the unit displayed the time in more of its iPod modes, and it would be nice if it showed the time when it is turned off while the vehicle is running.

Pros: Looks great, fairly simple installation, and I really like the sound. Even through stock speakers. Can not say enough about the steering wheel adapter!

Cons: I bought it because it was HD ready, and the HD adapter has been discontinued. The installer kit took some hacking to make it work, but it is good quality when it goes in. It is a little complex to learn, but the instructions are decent. To make it easier, I downloaded the PDF on to my iPad.

I have been wanting to upgrade to a hands free system for a long time now but didn't know where to start and how to wire it. I am a noob. Crutchfield's web site and advisors are great! What fit, what doesn't fit and what will fit with mods, etc... I had completed my research via Crutchfield's web site and found all of the adaptors I need to keep my steering controls and door chime etc... Sure I could have went to Wal-Mart or somewhere to save a few bucks but I wanted the lifetime support and glad I did because I used the advisor to walk me through something I goofed on during the install of the steering wheel control. Super support group! Anyway, the JVC awesome product. I didn't realize how outdated my OEM radio was. Hands free phone, and interfaces with my EVO LTE great. Pandora rocks! Call clarity! The unit really gave my 2006 Silverado crew cab a facelift. Thanks Crutchfield for helping me choose this JVC unit.

I purchased this for a 2004 Toyota 4Runner that i use strictly for work. I needed bluetooth for audio streaming and hands-free phone usage, and considering it's just an older, high-mileage work vehicle, i wanted to do this on a budget. This unit surpassed my expectations. Color Setting "16" makes the head blend in perfectly with the factory, orange dash lighting, and the bluetooth, radio and cd sound quality are excellent. I haven't experienced any of the "glare" problems other reviewers noted, despite an abundance of glass in the vehicle. Installation was quick and easy (about a 1.5 hrs start to finish) even with my general lack of experience in car audio installation. Looks very nice and clean, and works wonderfully with my iPhone 4S. Unit came in 2 days from Crutchfield with all necessary harnesses and adapters. Overall, I'm very pleased with the entire experience.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I finally upgraded my '04 Tacoma's stock "premium" radio with this JVC. I never realized that when I purchased the "premium" stereo option from the dealer, it was a speaker upgrade, not a head upgrade. The fidelity and range I'm hearing is something I didn't expect from my speakers. Pretty amazing, very impressed! Controls and settings are reasonably straight-forward if you take a couple of minutes and read the user's manual. The hardest part of the installation was cleanly routing the hands-free mic ( which would be the case with any receiver). Wiring diagrams/cross-over guide and harness from Crutch was easy to read and wired with heavier gauge copper than the JVC harness end. I'm not a flashy person, so visual effects are not important. Functionality is. Both I-phones paired easily, with little prompting. Obviously, a lot more features than I'm accustomed to, so a learning curve is to be expected. The product is just what I expected from a quality JVC head, and the value offered by Crutchfield is exceptional. Shipping was extraordinarily fast, product/vehicle specific info was accurate, and I have no doubts about customer support (based on the testimonials of friends who have purchased from Crutch.) Crutchfield's praises were sung to me by a close friend, which is the primary reason I looked to them first. It's hard to find a company that can offer this much value, selection, and (MOST IMPORTANTLY) SERVICE! Which speaks volumes for this business's mantra!

Pros: No install issues, great product for the everyday person who likes the sound of luxury for a steal

Cons: If I had something to complain about... what where the stock specifications of my old head unit (RMS wattage, etc)

Had an issue with the installation as I have never done this before, messed around trying to figure it out on my own and did not accomplish anything. Called in and the tech helped me step by step with getting my stereo installed- amazing support! As far as the unit itself I am very happy with it also. I bought it mainly for the Bluetooth and the I-pod capabilities as my truck had neither option on it. The JVC unit sounds so much better than the stock stereo and has a lot more features. You do need to take the time to get familiar with how to navigate thru the menu to be able to enjoy all the features it has to offer. It looks great in my dash-looks like I paid to have it professionally installed!

I got this unit to have blue tooth in my 2005 F150. The installation was straight forward and easy. The only issue I had was I had to get longer screws to hold the radio in the truck. Longer screws were provided with the ford bracket, but those were still not long enough. The blue tooth works great. I am using a Galaxy S3 phone. The best thing is how Pandora works. You can use the radio to start Pandora by setting the unit to blue tooth input. You then push the preset #3 button, which is labelled "Pandora". This will start Pandora on my phone. You can then use the various buttons on the radio unit to control Pandora (Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down, Skip, Channel Select, Pause). When you are listening to Pandora when you shut off your car it will automatically restart when you start your car back up. Very nice feature. The description on the radio does say that you can control Pandora with an IPhone, but with my S3 phone I am fully able to control it also.

    2012 Suzuki Equator
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased this as a replacement for the rental car radio that is the default in my Suzuki Equator. The sound quality is remarkable compared to what I was listening to. Without changing speakers, it sounds like a whole new car. After a day, makes me want to splurge and upgrade the door speakers to see what it sounds like. I have been using the "Loud" mode that adjusts the sound mix for listening to music at lower volumes, and that's a great feature. I did have to dial back the Bass a bit as it was flooding the factory speakers, but with a minor tweak it's amazing. The installation went pretty good, the bluetooth module is a piece of cake, and the only real external thing for the bluetooth is the microphone, which I ran up inside rubber door trim on the A pillar and placed at the top of the windshield. Pairing with my phone, a Galaxy SIII was simple. I did run into a problem at first using the phone book for my phone, till I noticed my phone asking for permission to share the phone book. Note to self, watch phone display when configuring new services. Using a IPod Classic, can pick play lists, skip songs, repeat / shuffle songs all without using the IPod controls. When advancing through songs, it displays the song number in the playlist at first so you have to wait a second for the titles to catch up. Much better sound quality than I was getting using a charge cable / aux input in my last vehicle.

Pros: The ability to customize screen colors is neat, the bluetooth works well, control of a Classic IPOD is wonderful (it is limited in how much of the playlist title it displays), and it's simple to operate while driving.

Cons: My main negative is that the colors of the display wash out in bright sun. I saw that another owner with a Nissan Frontier (sister truck to the Equator) had the same issue. Wish the display had a high contrast mode you could go to. At least you can do different lighting schemes between day and night. Unfortunately, when the sun is at a certain angle, about 1/3 of the time I have to shade the display to see what it says.

I just bought an '02 Cadillac and it had a very nice premium factory stereo but it did not have the features I want in a car stereo in 2013. It did have a cassette deck in addition to the CD player, but I can't find any of my cassettes so that was no help. This JVC has everything I want and more! I can use my Razr Maxx phone hands free with bluetooth, also stream my audio books and music from my phone to the speakers and listen to internet radio stations as well. I can hook up my Ipod to the front USB port and control it on the stereo. The menus are easy to understand and use and the controls are all convenient. The sound is great, I like the feature where I can choose preset equalizer settings such as dynamic, bass boost, or vocal. Installation appeared to go smoothly, I stood around and watched as my son did the install, but he said it was easy. I highly recommend this stereo!

    2010 Toyota Tacoma
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The stock HU in my 2010 Tacoma didn't have enough power for my Pandora tunes, so I upgraded to the JVC. Installation is not for the faint of heart, but it's certainly do-able. Toughest part actually is removing the flasher/clock from the stock fascia. Instructions say, "Remove clock." There's more to it than that I can tell you. Fortunately, I'd watched a youtube video about this very problem so was prepared, and would recommend the same. I installed the mic on the overhead console which also required some headscratching. Aside from that, installation was pretty good. The new fascia looks factory installed, and the unit looks great in the dash. It is, however, not a simple unit and requires some time with the instruction manual. Bluetooth connection with my Droid Bionic is straightforward and I'm told by numerous folks that it sounds as good as my Blue Parrot XT 250 commercial driver's headset, which is saying a lot. Pandora radio works and sound great, along with my ability to play my amazon cloud purchased music over the bluetooth connection. Colors are fully adjustable. I agree with others who say it's not quite bright enough during the day, but changing the display to light green helps that (I've kept the buttons red to match the Tacoma instruments). I did miss my steering wheel volume control, so have just ordered an adapter kit for that. All in all, I'm very pleased with the unit and with Crutchfield pricing and service.

Pros: Fabulous sound through stock speakers, good bluetooth connectivity with Android phone

Cons: Complex unit, learning curve required (at least for this 60-year-old).

I was told by a local shop that Nobody could provide what I needed for my BMW 528I, and install a double Dinn style stereo. Well I call Crutchfield. And was not real sure of what I wanted for sure. But wanted something that would look cool and fit the sleek design of my Factory Dash without leaving a messy looking install. While it was challenging to install not much room and the wiring and adaptor filled almost every possible inch of free space. I did get it working after a couple of calls. Very nice, Blue tooth works well, totally happy. Coolness factor is awesome.!

Pros: Color adjust display, easy menu, blue tooth and had plenty of usb hookups for both the iPhone and iPad

I had very limited options for my model car and a few necessary requirements. This little baby was suggested and I was pleasantly surprised with all the features. Installation was fairly easy although I am not sure what the purpose of a 3 foot usb cable out the back would be. The bluetooth comes plugged into the end and wrapped. I left it wrapped to prevent the adapter from falling out during normal driving should the cable become lodged behind the dash (again, limited space). Features are nice, iPod controls work beautifully. Dual bluetooth phones is a nice touch for family car rides. Syncing is a bit too simple as I was use to clarion units that require menu functions to sync. This one you simple request from the device and click OK on the unit.

Pros: Size, design, capable sound and clarity

Cons: long usb cable in rear made for awkward installation.

This unit is great if you want Pandora in your car. I was thinking about getting Satellite radio for my wife's car, but the complexity of the installation and the monthly cost were undesirable. Installing a unit that lets her stream Pandora from her phone through the car's speakers is a nice compromise, because it gives her the ability to access a wider variety of content, but without the subscription fees. She uses a Samsung Galaxy S3, and we had no problems connecting it over Bluetooth and having the JVC unit take over control of Pandora. Works very well. She especially likes that it automatically syncs and launches Pandora when she gets in the car, without having to touch her phone. Note: you do not need the JVC Android app, this capability is built into the JVC unit. Audio sound quality is very good. Bluetooth calling works well, as long as the mic is appropriately positioned. The unit appearance is OK, not super flashy, but not quite as clean as OEM. I do not find the JVC button layout/ interface to be extremely intuitive, but the manual is good enough that it only took a few minutes to learn the most important functions.

Pros: Pandora control, bluetooth calling, sound quality

    Cons: Interface is just OK.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a very feature rich head unit for the price. I've been pleased with JVC products in recent years; they've come a long way. My biggest worry was how it would perform with voice recognition with my Samsung S3, but it works relatively well with bluetooth. The versatility of the EQ settings and amp output settings lets youdial in the perfect sound levels and tones the fit your music. I listen to black metal and death metal so the double kick drums, mid-range bass, and vocals are very important to me.

Pros: Initial setup, display features, EQ versatility, color options, bluetooth functionality, iPod operation

Cons: The display is not the best for readability during a sunny day. Adjustments are of minimal help. Also, a third dedicated USB port fof the bluetooth dongle would have been better than having to dedicate the one on the faceplate or the one on the iPod cable on the rear of the unit.

Purchased this head unit as an Xmas gift for my younger brother and he absolutely loves it. He mostly listens to Pandora with his iPhone and it works great. He wanted a double DIN head unit because he didn't like the look of a single DIN in his dash. This double DIN had all the features he needed at a great price.

Pros: Nice head unit with a ton of great features for the price. Competitive pricing, free dash kit, free wiring kit, and super fast shipping, this is why I only order head units from Crutchfield.

Cons: The Blue Tooth doesn't work well enough to be useful. Even with the mic sensitivity all the way up, most can't hear or understand what your saying during a call. This is why I gave it four stars instead of five.

First, JVC has a long history of bang for the buck which thankfully remains true with this product. The JVC replaces a Clarion unit for which we couldn't read the display in daylight and I don't mean only when the sun was shining directly on the face; I mean all the time during daylight hours. The JVC is just head and shoulders better, including being able to read the display which has many color options to match your vehicles color scheme if you light. We are especially pleased with sound quality improvement, and ease of operation, features, Bluetooth, two USB ports, MP3 port, also. My wife is a musical omnivore, and listens to Sirius Satellite radio, a must have feature (with addition of SCC1 tuner and adapter), and the search by category feature is a real plus for her. She loves her satellite radio. You will need to read the operators manual, because there are so many features/functions for this product it can't be entirely intuitive, Bottom line: the JVC is a very happy-making experience.

Pros: great feature package for the price, great sound quality, great display that doesn't wash out in daylight: AND, the Crutchfield satisfaction guarantee turned a fail into a big positive -- Thank you!

    Cons: none found

Got this for my wife's Christmas gift. I installed it a little early because the weather here is too cold after Christmas for outdoor installation. The unit itself has worked flawlessly. The controls are fairly straightforward, but I must say that in order to keep things simple, they had to combine functions. They seem to have done so in a well thought out and consistent manner, but it does take some time to get used to it. The Bluetooth Handsfree has been a real hit and allows her to answer and make calls while keeping her hands on the wheel and her eyes on the road. She doesn't even have to find the phone in the deep recesses of her purse. Both ends of the conversation do sound a little quiet, even with the microphone sensitivity on full. In short, it does everything we need it to do (and more), and is easy enough to use.

Pros: Works well and for the most part, simply.

Cons: It would be nice to have the Bluetooth built in. As it is, you either have to give up the front or rear USB connection for the bluetooth.

I don't want that white ipod cord hanging out of the front of my unit to advertise to everyone that I have an ipod available to be taken. It was very nice to be able to use the back USB for the ipod and put the Bluetooth adapter in the front USB. With that said the Bluetooth quality is pretty poor. It works so its convenient. But everyone I talk to asks if they are speaker. Its very noticeable. My previous unit no one knew I was driving, let alone that they were on a speaker Bluetooth.

It is a good radio - all of the functions work pretty well. Everything is fairly intuitive and fairly easy to work. I do have a couple of gripes - and will likely be returning mine. 1) It really needs 2 USB ports in the back or built-in bluetooth. The adapter takes up either the back or the front USB and it sticks out if used in the front. I like my iPod hidden in the glovebox so I'd like to use the rear USB for that. I ended up sticking the bluetooth adapter in the front and covering the flashing light with black marker. 2) It has this stupid animated radar looking icon in the top left side of the screen. You can't turn it off. It flashes alternating images when listening to the radio and kind of rolls when listening to iPod. I hate - HATE - flashing lights on my dash. This is a deal-breaker for me. I've already purchased another JVC single-DIN with all of the same functionality but without the stupid animated icon. 3) Lighting - it is a pain tow set the custom light colors. You have to manually set both zones for both day and night - 3 different settings for each one. You should be able to easily set all zones at once. 4) Huge screen - no way to have the clock on all the time. Annoying.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for a 2004 Passat. I had just downgraded from a high end vehicle, and it was killing me not to be able to use my iPhone for music and handsfree calls. Other than listening to local public radio, that is all I use it for. Bluetooth - overall it works well. I am using the iPhone 5 and I need to make sure that I press play on whatever I am listening to after the connection happens between the phone and the head unit. The connection isn't seamless, as it takes a bit for the radio to find your device, but it works well enough. Once it is connected, it seems to do the job. Whatever app I use for music, it plays it with no issues. The Pandora app support and iPod controls are a waste. I tried them to see how they worked but I will never use them. As soon as you plug your phone into the USB port on the radio, it tries to use the radio controls, instead of allowing you to use the iPhone/iPod controls. The built in user interface on any smartphone is going to be better than a $200 radio. I don't know if there is a way to use the USB port as a charger only to avoid the controls disappearing on your phone. Connect via bluetooth and skip the USB cable to the radio. Trust me. The mic seems to work well. I haven't tested it a ton. I have had a few people say it was hard to hear me, but I wasn't in the best coverage area. I didn't want to spend much on a radio, and I am very happy with it so far. It looks clean, not too cheesy, and sound decent.

Pros: Cheap handsfree calling and bluetooth audio. Double DIN Customizable colors to match your dash

Cons: Display would have been cool in the early 1990's. Seriously, what is the rectangle in the top right? Best I can tell, it is some lame special effect. The track and title names are mostly useless as the display is very low resolution, and it only shows a very limited number of characters. All of this is not really a big deal though, as your iPhone or other smart phone should make it easy enough to choose your music or make phone calls with the device while connected to bluetooth.

Took me 45 minutes to Install the radio in my 2012 Nissan Frontier. I installed several radio over the years and it was the easiest to install in the Nissan Frontier. My biggest complaint is the very poor screen display. The screen is not visible during the daylight due to the angle of the radio. I also noticed that the Bluetooth takes a long time to connect to my IPod Touch4. Programming the radio is a nightmare due to the many options and sub-menus to search through to make the desire changes. The sound is no better than the factory radio which is a big disappointment. I would definitely not recommend this radio especially due to the poor display.

I replaced the stock radio in my '04 Tundra after having done without ANY "bells and whistles". I love all the features this radio provides. The kids love the multicolor display, too. I, especially like that feature on game day! Overall, it was a pretty easy install - 2 hours max. Had to do some common sense install stuff e.g. where to feed the microphone wire within the vehicle, but Crutchfield's instructions were good and one call to Crutchfield's stellar tech support at 10 pm got me through. The unit sounds great! It even makes the stock speakers sound better. I've always loved my truck, but now I love it even more (didn't think that was possible). I chose this unit over a similarly priced Alpine unit because the JVC has a variable color display allowing me to match the lighting to my dashboard where the Alpine didn't. Both units had similar features, Bluetooth, etc, but the JVC had slightly better specs plus the ability to simply match the dash color put this unit over the top. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Pros: Easy install, the display is clear, there's a decent amount of buttons, unit has a variable display color (coolness factor), Sounds great, Menu functions are easy to use, Bluetooth works well.

This is a really nice replacement for my VW OEM radio. I only use it for streaming iPod, Pandora and phone calls, so I can't say anything about terrestrial radio or CD performance. Music sounds great and controlling my iPhone from the head unit works well. I like that there's a choice between running music through the USB interface or streaming it over Bluetooth. If I'm making a quick run somewhere I don't even need to take my phone out of my pocket to listen to music or make calls. On longer trips, I've been able to keep my phone charged through the USB. I've also been able to make this work with my MLB app and listen to games while traveling.

Pros: Streaming Pandora and never-ever listening to corporate playlist radio. Bluetooth, hands-free phone calls.

Cons: Head controls for iPod and Pandora change slightly depending on the type of connection (USB or Bluetooth). It takes about a minute for the unit to remember the Bluetooth connection to my phone.

    No low volume

spent from Ft. Worth, TX on 9/9/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

No low volume. Either it is on MUTE (Vol #0) or it is at LOUD (Vol #1), 1 tiny click to the right of zero makes the radio go from zero volume to Volume#1 which is LOUD. You can barely hold a conversation with someone else in the car, if the radio is playing....it does not provide background music. Either the radio is ON and the conversation is OFF, or the conversation is ON and the Radio is OFF. Also the clock does not show when radio is off....you need to have the radio on on Volume 0 to see the clock with the radio not sounding (unlike factory radio). Lime green is the brightest of the colors (and adequate) if illumination during sunny days is a problem.

Pros: Crutchfield's price and wiring harness for 1)door chimes and 2) BOSE and 3)steering wheel controls were outstanding (for a 2003 GMC Yukon XL, in which many features go through the radio). Far less price than the Stereo System Installer's wholesale price directly from his source. The fit was perfect. Owner's manual was clear on setting up features.

Cons: Above. The system overall is ok, but no one would read it if I rated it that. JVC Kenwood needs to work on the above problem(s)! The radio is not an improvement over the stock 2003 GMC Yukon radio, due to those 2 deficits. We replaced it because our CD player broke after 10 years. If I had it to do over, I'd get a new GMC stock radio, as we could play iPod nano off the cassette player in the stock radio.

I own a miata and I was worried the mic will not be enough to cancel all the wind noise. I got a call from my wife while driving on the freeway with the top down an it worked flawlessly. She said she was able to clearly hear me. All other functions work as expected and learning curve was easy. I love how I can listen to my iPhone music with no wires and it also sounded good just using my old speakers.

Pros: Great interface design, works well, sounds good and easy to use.

Cons: I did not had to us the metra mounting kit, the one with the jvc looked better and worked fine. So although it's supposedly free it was a waste.

Derek4Real from Fort Lauderdale on 8/30/2012

Picked up JVC KW-R800BT for my Nissan Frontier 2011. The installation was done professionally and required no mounting kit. Pairing my Iphone4S was a little tricky. During the BlueTooth pairing you have to press the master select button on JVC to successfully pair both units. If you miss this step, you will ultimately get a message stating" Unsuccessful pairing". The BlueTooth audio is awesome. I can stream Pandora, YouTube, and all my iPhone music. The tech mounted the blue tooth mic directly above my rear view mirror. So when I receive a call I can switch over to the BlueTooth phone feature which works great. The JVC KW-R800BT had greatly improved the sound quality of my stock speakers. The original Nissan OEM radio was no frills with a CD player, AM-FM Radio. I am driving across country and would definitely recommend this unit as an audio companion. The price is right and all the audio features integrate seamless with iPhone.

Pros: Sound Quality Multi-Color Display BlueTooth integration with Pandora and Music

Cons: BlueTooth Pairing with iPhone requires additional step on JVC which is not documented well.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My primary intent was to get bluetooth connectivity. I like the JVC unit. The kit that came for my Toyota Corrolla was flimsy. I wish the wiring harness was preassembled, it seems silly that I had to solder two harnesses together. Bluetooth works well with my Windows Phone 7, but the front USB does not work with the Windows phone. The sad part is that it does not even charge the phone. I am not sure that I like the display on the JVC unit. It seems to flicker once in a while when it is changing between modes. I am inclined to belive that this is a design feature that is supposed to be cool. I like the less-is-more approach better. I wish that the unit came with instructions on how to install the microphone. I managed to find out by looking at YouTube, but it would have been great if the instructions were included.

Pros: Good radio reception. Bluetooth works with Windows Phone 7.

Cons: Flimsy installation kit. Soldering needed to assemble the wire harness. It tries to be cool, but it is not that elegant.

I like the unit; it's fairly easy to use and the menus are quite intuitive. The sound quality is great compared to stock unit and I'm sure it will shine even more after I install a Rockford Fozgate amp, Infinity speakers, and Pioneer sub.

Pros: Good sound quality, easy to use, like the BT feature...it links with my Blackberry and I can stream Pandora. I also enjoy that I can hook up my iPod directly to the unit and the sound quality is especially good.

Cons: Owner's manual is not very clear on some features such as the settings for the Pro Eq function, but I was able to figure the settings for myself.

Pros: iPhone connectivity, Voice dialing, sound quality, 6 presets for contacts, changing color options, two USB options plus the aux in. Love it!

Cons: Would love a scan button but I can live without one.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in 06 Silverado LS and WOW...what a difference! Was going to buy a handsfree bluetooth setup for $120-150, but then decided to buy a new HU and couldn't be happier! I'm a newbie to car audio, but very mechanically inclined. Install was very easy but took a while because I triple checked everything. Some tips: 1) Toss the supplied dash installation kit and buy a Metra Raptor AW-555GM - it's a much better kit. The one supplied stuck out about 3/16" further than the A/C control panel below it, and the screw holes on the side didn't line up. The Metra product was EXTREMELY easy to install in comparison. Clipped out the center piece for 2-DIN install and simply snapped it in place. No need to saw off any tabs. 2) Pre-connect wires from the radio wire harness and the Chime module. Either solder the connections or use gold-plated crimp connectors from Auto Zone. Then use zip ties to make it into a solid harness - it will make the radio install 10 times easier. Did it the first time with twist-together wire connectors and had a rat's nest. 3) Remove the A/C control panel below the radio before removing/changing the HU. The cheap painted plastic on the A/C panel scratches off very easily. Everything worked great on startup. Sounds absolutely AWESOME! Samsung Stratosphere pared up without any problems. Called my wife and she couldn't tell I was talking through the handsfree. Excellent product for the money and Crutchfield made it easy for a newbie.

Pros: Unbeatable price for the features. Easy install without modification to my truck. Makes stock 6-year old speakers sound much better. Looks cool in the dash with user-selectable color.

Cons: It looks so awesome that it makes the rest of the dash look outdated and plain. Makes you wonder what it would sound like through new speakers (wife won't be happy, lol). Only 2 real negatives - doesn't seem to dim with the dimmer switch on console like factory radio did and, unless I'm missing how to do it, it doesn't display the clock when off or have an illuminated power button when off. Makes it a little difficult to easily locate the power button in the dark. Owner's manual sucks.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

JVC KW-R800BT is a good radio and I would rate it higher if I could see the display in daylight. If you install this in a vehicle where the radio bay is tilted upward the LED display is very difficult to read in daylight. Even setting it to the brightest color won't help.

Pros: Lots of good features, IE bluetooth, MP3 file playing off UDB thumb drive, interconnection with IPHONE, Pandora off iphone with the controls on the radio. I have also found that for whatever reason the Pandora seems to play with no commercials with the free version on my iphone.

Cons: The display is VERY DIFFICULT to read in bright sunlight if the radio is tilted upward.

I can charge my IPad with the USB plug and simultaneously listen to Pandora on my Iphone. The phone sounds a little tinny to people on the other end, but it does provide a safe "hands free" set up.

I must first say I am impressed. I was skeptical since the price was on the cheaper end. It looks good, and really sounds good. I have it pushing 4 Rockford Fosgate 6" Power speakers, and the sound is night and day compared to stock setup. The cool thing I thought was the fact that Crutchfield threw in a free wiring harness for my truck and free dash plate. These guys have their stuff straight.

Pros: Tons of adjustment. I am serious. You can practically adjust every sight and sound and control on this Head. You can even adjust how fast the volume raises when you turn the knob!

Cons: With the vast amount of adjustment, I had to consult the owners manual just to figure it out. I guess I have never been a manual kind of guy lol. I live in southern OK, and the daylight is bright here in the summer. I wish the brightness on this Head was a little more.

I had not done a car radio install in over 20 years...back then it was trying to figure out what wiring went where and that you by sheer luck hooked them up right. I wanted a change from the stock Nissan 6-disc AM/FM stereo the truck came with and this JVC unit equaled that and then some. The wiring harness was a breeze to hook up once I connected wires from the HU and the dash trim came off simpler than I thought. The aftermarket dash trim given by Crutchfield matches perfectly. I can honestly say that it is as simple as most other customers say and I see no reason in going to some place like Best Buy to have them charge you and arm and a leg when you can do it easily in your driveway with a few simple tools and the documentation Crutchfield provides to you.

Pros: Great sound, easy control, great look ....huge improvement over stock HU

Cons: would be nice if they offered BT sound control via iPhone instead of just Android and RIM..sure there is an app out there somewhere that will fix that

I'm thoroughly impressed with this HU. JVC added a funky DIN bracket that I had to remove (seems to be a common thing with all modern JVC HU's) to get it to fit in my mounting bracket. I had to use an adapter for the antenna because my car is a European make (Crutchfield was kind enough to provide the adapter and wiring harness for free), but other than that, it wired right up with ease. I'm still using stock speakers at this point, and haven't installed my sub/amp combo yet, but the sound quality improved tenfold. I can actually feel my stock speakers hit for the first time, and it doesn't distort nearly as bad when cranked up. Bluetooth performance is FANTASTIC. I actually found that playing my music through Bluetooth (using Spotify on iPhone 4S) was much clearer than using the USB cable. Calls are clear and it's surprisingly easy to navigate phone numbers and such from the HU. I was able to place a call to my home address in less than 15 seconds using this HU and the steering wheel buttons. Like mentioned earlier, call quality is clear and easy to hear for both parties. The mic had a long enough cable that I was able to mount it in a convenient spot. Very impressive unit from JVC if you're on a tight budget. And thanks to Crutchfield for making my first aftermarket install a pleasant experience.

Pros: Bluetooth blows away anything I've seen in stock Ford or Lincoln products. UI is easy to use. Color range on the display is incredible.

Cons: JVC provided extra pre-installed mounting parts that may be confusing to some first-time installers. None other that I can think of.

IPOD works great with the receiver, displaying playlist, artist, songs, and albums as you would expect. Reception of FM stations is good, AM is just ok. Sound is very good though not sensational. There is a 3 band EQ that helps there. Installation was a breeze with all the added supplies Crutchfields provides. Note that I am a beginner at installing car stereos.

This unit is one of the best for the money. The sound it puts out, even through my factory speakers, is a huge step up from the factory radio. The Bluetooth functionality is fantastic, especially the mic. If the unit is lacking anywhere, it would be the iPod interface. As with most iPod-controlling interfaces, this one leaves a little to be desired. It would be nice if the interface were a little more user friendly when scrolling for music (i.e. you have to start from the beginning of your music list every time you look for something, it doesn't start from the song/artist to whom you are currently listening). Also, when installing the unit in my truck, I had to make some serious modifications to the install kit before it would work. Not sure if it was the wrong kit or not, but you might look online for some tips (like I should've) before putting the kit together and on the unit. Other than that, this unit works great.

Pros: Sleek/simple design, Bluetooth works very well, Great sound

Cons: Poor radio reception, not easy to select stations unless strong signal is available.

This model had all the options I was looking fo and they all work great. I couldnt have asked for a better setup.

Pros: I-Pod/I-Phone interface, Android Interface, Bluetooth linkability, Fully adjustable color, Front and rear USB,

Cons: Dash install kit seemed borderline inadequate in quality but was functional.

Not as good as reviewers said

ttransj from San Jose, CA on 5/15/2012

I ready all the reviews on Crutchfields but not else where probably. The installation went well and the fitting is good but there are many things I don't like. My wife doesn't want me to take out for exchange and I would choose other model if I started over again. Bluetooth capability and usb port are the main reason to replace the stock radio. Sound quality is ok.

Pros: - Price - Bluetooth - HD Radio with trade off.

Cons: - Buggy USB interface: fails to read mp3 files and many time I have to remove the USB thumb drive to restart reading - Have to go though menu to change EQ, no way I can switch fast as the 900BT that I will review later - Display is very limited. - AM reception is very weak and we lost many AM channels and I didn't have problem with stock radio. - Some already review by other: slippery knob, no dedicated clock display but there is work around, difficult to see in bright sun light

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an excellent unit. I've had it installed for about 2 weeks now and the only complaint I have is that the "On/Off Source" button rattles! I hate rattles!!! A small piece of scotch tape (barely visible) was enough to keep the rattle quite. The settings are extensive but easily mastered. The sound can be tailored to your liking with a few trips through the menu. Don't rely on the manual for help as it is very poorly written. Most of the display is not even mentioned in the manual. I wrote to them twice to find out what items on the disply were indicating. The "Radar" thing in the top left corner is for "asthetics". It doesn't mean a thing. A waste of display real estate in my opinion, could have been a great place for the time to be displayed full time. Overall a great unit.

Pros: Sound and looks (color can be tailored to match the dash)

    Cons: Manual!!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had many JVC products in my life and have never been disappointed. This unit is no exception. Like I did with my 02 Elantra, I took out the stock and poor-sounding factory unit out of my Jetta and replaced it with a JVC unit, thinking that I would want to eventually upgrade the speakers too. No need! This unit brings the stock speakers alive so they can realize their true potential. There's a power and presence to the sound now that is really fabulous, especially for the price. There's definitely a learning curve involved when you first start using it, but it eventually becomes intuitive.

Pros: Bluetooth! Streaming from my iPhone 4 sounds incredible; no discernible difference from the direct plug-in. And the call quality is excellent. Plus the USB connection also charges my iPod or iPhone.

Cons: Bluetooth! The thing won't end a call right away when I hit the phone button, especially when it's in the process of dialing. So if the voice calling feature mis-hears who I want to call, it'll start connecting to the wrong person and won't stop until it starts ringing. VERY frustrating. Plus, while the bluetooth streaming sounds good, when you shut down then re-start your car it takes a looong time to reconnect, and once it finally does you have to manually start the track again.

Replaced my factory head unit on my 2006 Infiniti G35 Coupe. Really had no idea what I was missing. I had no idea about bluetooth music streaming when I bought this. I really just got it to have bluetooth phone and upgrade the sound quality. I can throw my iphone in the glovebox and have amazing sound with Pandora and my playlist. I can't detect any difference in sound with bluetooth vs USB plugin. That was the real surprise. The only bummer is you don't have all the head unit control over Pandora that you do when it's plugged via USB. So I have to actually pick up my phone when changing stations and you can't rate songs with in bluetooth mode.

Pros: Great sound, Great looks, Bluetooth sound is equal to USB plugin

Cons: You loose some head unit control in bluetooth mode.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit as a replacement for the factory unit in a 2001 Buick Century. This unit is everything that I wanted. The Bluetooth works great. I love having a front USB to use with a flash drive for music. It takes a little time for the unit to access the the thumb drive when it first starts up, but after that, changing songs is fast. The iPod controlls work with my iPhone 3GS just fine. Lots of options for music: am/fm, cd, mp3s on cd, mp3s on thumb drive, iPod/iPhone through the USB port, and iPhone music through Bluetooth. The adjustable colors made it easy to match the stock gauges. Crutchfield's installation instructions were spot on. However, the instructions for the plastic install kit were poor.

Pros: Great sound and looks. Easy to use. Lots of choices for music. Crutchfield's sales and support were great!

Cons: Just the lack of good instructions with the plastic install kit.

    Built-in Bluetooth

USB Bluetooth Adapter: The JVC KW-R800BT comes supplied with a USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) which is pre-installed into the head unit's rear-panel USB input, making the KW-R800BT Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR certified. The KW-R800BT supports Bluetooth hands-free communication and wireless audio streaming. The USB Bluetooth Adapter (KS-UBT1) must remain plugged into the rear-panel USB port, or can also be installed in the head unit's front-panel USB port.

Bluetooth Technology: Bluetooth is a two-way wireless communication system allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, as well as wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth enabled portable music player using the JVC in-dash multimedia receiver. Bluetooth wireless technology operates on a 2.4GHZ frequency band within a range of approximately 10 meters (about 33 feet).

Bluetooth Profiles: The JVC KW-R800BT supports the following Bluetooth profiles:

    • HFP 1.5 (Hands-Free Profile): Hands-free communication with your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone in the vehicle (incoming/outgoing calls supported).
    • OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile): Phonebook transfer from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone to the head unit.
    • PBAP 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile): Phonebook access from your Bluetooth enabled cell-phone to the head unit.
    • A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile): Music streaming from your Bluetooth enabled phone or audio player to the head unit.
    • AVRCP 1.3 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile): Basic music playback control of your Bluetooth enabled phone or audio player from the head unit.

Pairing: Your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone or digital audio player must be paired with KW-R800BT before hands-free & wireless operation. You can register up to five Bluetooth enabled devices with the JVC head unit. You can keep two phones connected at all times (only one can be used during a call).

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC head unit. See JVC's Bluetooth compatibility chart for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled devices.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The controls of the KW-R800BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (with mounting bracket) featuring adjustable gain, so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers (front or all).

External Microphone: The JVC KW-R800BT includes an external microphone to carry on your side of your phone conversation and voice command dialing. The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the level of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 12' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash. The external microphone measures 0.525" (diameter) x 1.485" (depth). This unit does not offer an integrated front-panel microphone.

Answering A Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker, the head unit's display will flash (Ring Color), and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the KW-R800BT's front-panel controls, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call. You can adjust the head unit's ring color from the unit's 29 preset colors or 30,000 custom colors.

Dialing A Number: Using the KW-R800BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Entering a Phone Number: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's front-panel rotary dial.
    • Speed Dialing: You can store up to 6 contacts in the memory of this unit for speed dialing.
    • Phone Book: You can dial by using the downloaded phone book. You can download phone book data from your cell phone to the KW-R800BT. If you phonebook contains a lot of contact numbers, you fast search (+/-10, 100, or 1000) through the phonebook by using the unit's control dial. You can also do an A-Z search to scroll the downloaded phonebook. Up to 5,000 numbers can be stored for each registered cell phone. Each number can be up to 32 digits long.
    • Call Log: The Call Log is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls (up to 50 each).
    • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.

Private/Hands-Free Mode: During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

Message Notice: The JVC KW-R800BT will ring and display "RCV Message" to alert you of an incoming text message from your connected Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. You will still need to view the text message from your phone, as well as create and send text messages from your phone.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The JVC KW-R800BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The KW-R800BT will be able to control basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music; such as Play/Pause, Skip Next/Previous, and Fast Forward/Rewind. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Song and Album title. The KW-R800BT also supports audio streaming of music apps (such as iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Last.fm, Rhapsody, & Slacker) , but without control or metadata. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to view and control streaming music apps. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

    Pandora App

Pandora Internet Radio Control: The JVC KW-R800BT CD receiver lets you playback and control the Pandora Internet Radio music service that is being streamed to your Apple iPhone, Android smartphone, or BlackBerry. While providing control over the Pandora music service, the KW-R800BT also displays Artist, Album, and Song information. You can select Pandora stations from your station list; you can sort the station list by date or alphabetically (A-Z). You can also skip song tracks within a station. In addition, you can also give songs a thumbs up/down and bookmark songs/artists.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or smartphone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada and only available in the United States.

Pandora App for iPhone: The JVC KW-R800BT lets you playback and control Pandora Internet Radio streamed to your connected Apple iPhone, via the USB/iPod connector cable (included with your iPhone). To access Pandora you must have an Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0 or later) with the latest version of the Pandora App from the Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account.

Pandora via Android or BlackBerry: The JVC KW-R800BT also lets you playback and control Pandora Internet Radio streamed from your Android or BlackBerry smartphone, via Bluetooth (no hard-wired connection required). Your Android or BlackBerry smartphone must have the latest version of the Pandora App from the Android Market or the BlackBerry App World. Your Android or BlackBerry smartphone must also be Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP/SPP certified and will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. In addition, you will need an active Pandora music service account.

    USB/Aux Inputs

Dual USB Ports: The JVC KW-R800BT features a front-panel USB 2.0 type-A port (behind a sliding cover) and a rear-panel USB 2.0 type-A port (attached to a 45" pigtail) for connection of USB mass-storage class devices; such as select Android smartphones (Froyo/Gingerbread OS only), portable digital audio players, or USB thumbdrives. The USB ports enable audio playback and control of MP3, WMA, & WAV audio files stored on portable USB mass-storage class devices. Both of the USB terminals can be connected to USB devices at the same time. USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (5V/1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On. You cannot connect a USB device via a USB hub or Multi-Card Reader to this unit.

Note: The rear-panel USB port comes with the KS-UBT1 Bluetooth adapter installed. The this Bluetooth adapter must remain installed for Bluetooth functionality. It can be removed to allow connection of a second USB (MSC) device.

Drive Change Mode (for BlackBerry and Android): JVC's Drive
