Get ready to be entertained

If you like radio, you'll love the options the KW-V230BT offers, including Pandora®, iHeartRadio®, and Spotify®. You can also add a SiriusXM tuner to enjoy satellite radio's deep programming that won't fade away as you head out of town. And when it's time to play your own music, this receiver also offers a DVD/CD player, a rear audio/video input for a portable music player or game console, and a front USB port that can handle your MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV music files, as well as the music stored on your iPhone or Android. The display will show video when you're parked, and you can also feed video to optional screens you can add for the backseat crew.

Bluetooth convenience

Bluetooth enables wireless streaming for music, podcasts, and audiobooks and hands-free phone calls. This receiver lets you can quickly switch between two paired phones — handy for vehicles with more than one driver. You can install the included wired microphone close to you, so callers can hear you loud and clear. Many portable high-res audio players also include Bluetooth, so you can stream your personal music collections while you're on the road.

Options for sound

Once you've got your music picked, this receiver's 13-band graphic equalizer and digital time alignment let you zero in on just the right sound. JVC's K2 technology helps bring back the depth and detail for all your digital music sources. Because most car speakers are located down low in the doors, this receiver also offers Sound Lift, which adjusts your music's frequencies to virtually "raise" your speakers for better, more natural imaging. Three pairs of hot 4-volt preamp outputs ensure you get an ultra-clean signal when you add amplifiers for more punch to your sound.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Smartphone note: If you're going to use your smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought my Avalanche in 2004 new and put a kenwood Nav receiver in it, that was stolen after several years and to be honest I was ok with it. Then I replaced it with a Pioneer Nav. That ended up having bluetooth issues and the nav was never great and something was off with the speakers finally this year. Now my truck is 13yrs old and it was time to update things. I don't need a nav anymore, my phone provides better and more up to date results, so after reading all the reviews I went with this one and installed it myself. The instructions are nice and clear, I like the interface, its simple and clear, though I wish it had forward and back hardware buttons. The sound is great, this is subjective of course but it works for me. My only minor gripe is the startup time, it takes longer than my last radio. That said for the price I think this is a huge winner. I almost went with 4 stars but posted 5 because if the value. I bought from Crutchfield because it was basically a 1 stop shop for everything including the instructions. Very happy!

Pros: 1. Fits well with the dash 2. Solid feature set 3. Bluetooth works great 4. Reverse camera overlay 5. Front USB port 6. Intuitive UI 7. Quality feel of touch screen

Cons: 1. front USB door does not work well, hard to get off. I ended up just removing it 2. Can't sync the lighting color to match my vehicle lighting color (nice feature from my previous unit to make it feel more factory) 3. Slow to start up

    Great picture features

Value for money, high performance head unit

Nigel from New Zealand on 10/5/2017

Great value for money product as expected from JVC this unit is packed full of features and sends out high quality sound compared to other units on the market. I've owned Android units and other aftermarket big brand units and JVC has always provided exceptional value and quality for me. Some people have complained about bluetooth reception/connection and slow boot start up but I have not experienced any of these issues. A tip for anyone connecting existing or aftermarket steering wheel control adaptors - you must ground the park brake wire at the back of the unit before the steering wheel control option can be selected in the main menu. The unit comes with a steering wheel control wire which plugs into the back of the unit via a 3.5mm(?) jack. Three wires are attached to the jack - one for ground, second for steering wheel input A, third for steering wheel input B. The unit accepts resistive based steering wheel controls (most japanese vehicles use resistive).

Pros: packed full of features 3 rca amp preout (including sub woofer) steering wheel control compatibility (resistive)

Cons: missing rotary volume knob (but use steering wheel controls to adjust volume)

Purchased this HU and installed it a week ago. The appearance and sound quality is pretty good for the price. I also installed JVC speakers too. The controls of the radio seem intuitive and user friendly. No complaints there. That's where the good ends. The radio does seem to take a while to boot up as other have mentioned. From turning the key to the on position and the radio powering on to streaming music is just over 45 seconds (assuming you already have the app open). This is my first aftermarket HU with BT streaming so I have nothing else to compare it to. But it does seem excessive. To play music using the lightning cable (iphone) via the app on the HU is a challenge. It seems that you have to connect the phone to the HU, open the app HU and the open the app on the phone (even if it is running in the background). And then sometimes you have to disconnect the phone from the radio and reconnect for it to work. Once it is working it is pretty good. Again, this is my first aftermarket HU with this feature. Needless to say I have only been streaming music via BT. The HU also is lags switching between screens and functions. I checked the firmware and I believe that it is current. I called crutchfield tech support and they believe the HU is functioning normally. I probably would not buy this HU again. Assuming you get what you pay, I would definitely spend more money if I was going to get better performance for that money. Connectivity and lagging are a big issue with t

Really nice radio for the price! It had a lot of options for listening to music and one of the few head units I've seen that still has the front usb port. I have an iphone for work use and an android for personal use. This unit caters more to the iphone. It downloads your contact list and displays your recent calls. But with my samsung I can't get it to download nothing at all. It does play pandora and the apps from the android.

    Pros: Many options.

    Cons: Not android friendly

There are better products out there at similar price point. Bought this for my wife's Subaru Impreza. Connected a Crux CUL-06 rear view camera. When you shift the gear to reverse, the camera comes on. When you shift it to drive, shows blue screen "No Signal" - Does not return to previous screen, not even the home screen. Also, it takes too long for the unit to boot up. By the time it boots up and displays the rear view camera image, I am out of the driveway and well on the road. Basically, I am backing up while it is still displaying the "JVC" logo. Also, having trouble installing the steering wheel control.

    Pros: Decent sound. Good display.

    Cons: Poor functionality. Slow boot.

Phil from Argyle, TX on 8/4/2017

    2008 Ford Econoline

I just installed this unit in my E 450 Ford Chassis Class C RV...Once I understood the instructions, thanks to assistance from Crutchfield folk, the installation went relatively easy...total time about four hours, including the trim work on the dash. It fits like a glove, and the installation accessory package makes it look like a factory install. I opted for the special on SXM, and that is working as expected, great sound quality even with cheap RV speaker system.I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a mid priced, quality system...

Pros: All the parts necessary except wire nuts.

Cons: Had to go to Lowes and get small wire nuts...

Great sound, good app integration, easy install

    2005 Chevrolet Tahoe
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Straight forward installation, great sound, too many features to explain and editing the home screen makes the most used feature handy. Installed it in my 2005 Tahoe. Sound is better than the stock and the Pandora and Spotify apps work great. My only complaint is that it requires my iPhone to be connected by USB to use the music service apps. It will play anything my phone plays via Bluetooth but the nav of those apps is through the phone (unless USB is connected). This is no big deal because I keep the phone on a mount and plugged in while driving. I strongly recommend you buy the wire connectors and the available harness bridge to keep factory steering wheel controls and onstar. But it's the ease of installation that really makes the kit worth it. Sorry for the bad photo.... but the integration was easy and it looks great in the truck.

Pros: Awesome sound, easy install, customization of home screen apps

    Cons:

    Full featured and power packed

John from Monroe, MI on 7/26/2017

    2002 Pontiac Firebird
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit was a breeze to install in a 2002 Firebird. Crutchfield is awesome and included everything that I needed to install the unit, even stuff I didn't know I needed. The JVC sounds great and really brought the factory amp and speakers back to life. Still learning about all of the features but it sounded great right out of the box, a couple of taps on a few settings and I had forgotten what the Delco Monsoon even looked like. The only thing at all that is a disappointment is the Bluetooth connectivity. All Bluetooth devices have the "works with select Bluetooth enabled devices" statement attached somewhere. I had yet to find a device that wouldn't work with any other device that I owned, until now. When JVC publishes a list of compatible company/devices they mean it. I know ZTE is not Samsung or Apple, but they are not unheard of, except to JVC. Had I even suspected that the phone wouldn't pair this would have been a deal breaker. Now that it is installed I think I'll eventually have to get a phone that JVC likes. The calling feature was one of the features that I really missed after having it in a newer vehicle. I suspect Kenwood is the same. My fault not JVCs and certainly not Crutchfield, the info was published, I just didn't believe it. Would have been 5 stars had it not been for that, and will be if JVC decides to play nice with ZTE and sends out an update. If you happen to already have a name brand phone that you paid too much for this unit is for you.

Pros: Power, sound adjustment options, multiband EQ, easy GUI.

Cons: Not Bluetooth compatible with all phone manufacturers. Check JVCs web site to ensure your device is compatible before you buy. Trust me if it is not on the list, it won't work.

    Menue navigation a bit clunky

    2008 Ford F-150
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound performance is good, but not outstanding. Radio reception good. Touch screen is a little slow to respond, and it is easily drown out by daylight conditions even at max brightness. lacks a volume knob. but I do like the front panel USB port. Operating system menus are pretty easy to navigate, but there is no "back" button, so if you are deep into menu, and you want to move backward a little bit, you have to hit the Home button, then start all over again. And the Home button is a hard button, not a soft one, so it takes more force to hit it.

    Pros: all the modern stuff

Cons: dim display, no volume knob

    Justin from TX on 7/10/2017

    2000 Toyota Land Cruiser
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This receiver is a good value and it has a lot of nice features. It sounds great with the new JVC speakers. The radio is slow to respond. When my iPhone is hooked up it takes awhile to search through the artists. This results in a lot of time looking at the radio instead of the road. When starting up the car it takes several seconds for the display to come up. I had considered a back up camera. With the lag this unit has I would have to wait several seconds before I could use the back up camera. I have played around with the settings and I cannot do anything to reduce the glare from the sun on this unit. The vehicle is an 02 Land Cruiser. I am considering returning this but I fear with the new touch screen units glare may be a constant problem.

Pros: Sounds great. Picks up many radio stations

Cons: Bad glare and slow response time on the touch screen

Overall great bang for the buck.

Good system for the money. EQ is nice, does sound better than stock radio in my 06 Ford F150, and does seem to be a little more sensitive on picking up FM stations which is noticeable since we live in the country and drop several in town stations halfway home. Get them a good bit closer to home now. The customization of the home screen, etc. is nice, I wish you could have more than 3 default choices for audio sources but it's still not hard to get to the full menu. I like the Spotify feature, it's cool to get full track data and album art on the screen and have complete control to skip songs and even "like" the songs. However the spotify app locks out on your iPhone when in spotify mode on the receiver. Meaning you can't control or search for anything on your phone. You can browse recently played stations and the generic genres but can't search for specific songs, artist, etc from the receiver. So it's great if you're on a good stations in just want to be able to skip songs but if you want to change to other custom stations you have to go on your phone completely close out the app reopen it search on your phone then put the receiver back in spotify mode. You can get around this by unplugging your phone from the receivers USB port and just choosing Bluetooth audio. You'll still get partial track data and the ability to skip but sometimes data is incomplete, no album art and no "like" button but you would have all that still on your phone. So just a minor thing

Pros: Great sound, good EQ, great features for apps

    2009 Pontiac Vibe
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Surprised at all the 5 stars by other reviewers. Though this product is good for the price, I don't believe it's 5 stars good. The screen brightness is on the low side, during daytime use, even when adjusted to the max for brightness. The controls for Android devices are limited; controlling apps on Android phone is well short of the iPhone capability. I guess I didn't read the description well enough in this regard. The install is also another issue for my vehicle, 2009 Pontiac Vibe (Toyota Matrix), though I can't be certain if its the Metra mounting and dash kit or the radio itself. The points on the install bracket, allows for only one position, when completed, it leaves the radio excessively in the recessed position, away from the face of the dash, leaving an unfinished appearance. See the attached photo. Lastly, I think it might be coincidence, but when my install was complete. The "battery / charging system" error light came on the dash. Given the timing, needless to say, I trouble shot the radio install, to make sure I wasn't wasting my money on a new alternator. I reached out to Crutchfield tech support to see if this has happed on this vehicle before, but all I got was, "all circuits are busy, good-bye"! Yes, I tested the Alternator, but wanted to be sure, the radio wasn't "drawing" down on the system.

Pros: Large screen and fully featured.

Cons: Poor Android Phone / App compatibility. Questionable mounting points for "finished" appearance. No Dial for volume control.

Crutchfield response on 7/3/2017 Once we saw this review, our Tech Support team reached out to Wan to issue an apology and help him further. We'll either help him get the receiver working the way it should, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.

Just installed the stereo, June 24. It is driving the Alpine 4 channel and mono amps with a Jl Audio 8" sub. Output are 4 Infinity speakers with front tweeters. Man, I can't believe the sound clarity. The stereo is easy to use for a old, non computer savy guy. Very impressed with the steering wheel controls by Meastro. Has good bass like a home system. My son even got a backup camera for my birthday, good quality picture. All this went in a silverado king cab. Very happy with Crutchfield and the people do know there stuff. Love my new system, thanks so much.

Pros: Good price for all the features it comes with.

Cons: Boy, a big system like this takes along time to install. It was worth it

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The first kudos goes to Crutchfield, great customer service and great technical support. Second is the JVC/Kenwood unit, with the wire interface kit that Crutchfield sent with the head unit made it so easy to install. The radio itself is high quality, great sound and a tone of options to customize the sound in the vehicle...to many to list but you can adjust the system to your liking. The screen menus are easy to get around in to customize your system from sound, phones and display options...a front 1/8" plug would be nice in the front but use a long cord that plugs in the back. Honestly I haven't had it long to give a five star rating but so far so good.

Pros: Quality, great sound, nice touch screen and menus, easy to use side controls.

Cons: No front 1/8" interface plug.

I bought a refurbished unit from Crutchfield, couldn't tell it was refurbished, cosmetically or performance wise, and saved a few bucks. Install was no problem, a little help from from Crutchfield was appreciated as always. I hooked up a backup camera, it was of the main reasons I changed to this unit on my 2006 Corvette: can't see much of anything out the back tinted window...I didn't have Bluetooth or USB, now I have both and they work great. I can also connect to IHeart and Pandora which is a very nice feature. The unit sounds good and packs a ton of features for the price. Didn't give 5 stars because I'm getting a humming sound that goes away at higher volume, response time from the touch screen is sluggish at times, and radio reception appears to be worse than the OEM radio. This may not be the unit's fault, called Crutchfield and they advised me to recheck all connections especially the ground wire, and maybe ground the unit to the chassis. We shall see and hear...

Pros: Lots of features, looks factory, good value

Cons: Slow response at times to the touch screen.

Nice dvd receiver with a ton of audio adjustments. For the price , one of the better units on the market. I have had several head units in different cars, and sound quality wise this is one of the best. Menus look like Kenwood which can be expected since they are the same company. My only gripe is that the unit moves a little slow after making a selection. This may be because I really only use USB flash drives for music and I like to use the 32gb variety. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quality unit at a decent price. BTW, I also had a Pioneer DEH 80 PRS, and while this doesn't have quite as many eq bands, the sound quality is very close.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This headunit is a great replacement in my 2009 Subaru Impreza. Fitment is perfect, and looks like it came from the factory. The sound quality is very good. The on-board amp provides plenty of power to aftermarket Rockford fosgate door speakers I also installed. I have noticed a major issue when using Spotify w/ bluetooth from my phone. When the stereo turns on the audio goes to full MAX if you turned the radio/car off while still connected to spotify. Scared the heck out of me and my wife a couple of time. You get a small window to lower the volume before the bluetooth makes a full connection, but is a hassle. This COULD be due to the universal steering wheel controls I also installed that isn't working properly, so it may not be the headunit's fault. Touchscreen works very well, a lot better than I expected, works with gloves too. Everything is easy to find. Some people might complain that the unit is a bit laggy switching screens, but I believe these people don't know how aftermarket touchscreens in this price range used to be much less responsive and slower. I think JVC did a amazing job on this one. The rear camera works really well too and I get a lot of compliments on how nice it all looks.

Pros: Easy installation Powerfull AMP and Audio tuning controls Interface looks modern and attractive Customizable wallpapers/backgrounds Lots of features for the price point

Cons: Bluetooth needs work. the Dual bluetooth radios have a hard time switching between phones. Me and my wife have the same phone model. Startup sequence is slow, but it is loading a lot of functions. Takes about as long as a mobile phone bootup.

Great specs but very sluggish operation

    2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This unit looks good on paper. It has all features that a high end unit should have. It functions as expected and one can really dial in the sound for any car. Despite this, the unit has two "features " that make me wish I had made a different selection. 1.). To adjust volume, you must press the volume button repeatedly to increase volume. If you hold it down, the button does not continue to adjust volume. For example, if the volume is set to 10 and you want it at 25, you must push the button 15 times. You can't just hold it down and have it increase volume until you release the button. This behavior is also present when using steering wheel controls. 2.). The unit's user interface has Terrible latency issues. If you press a button on the touchscreen, the unit takes three to four seconds to actually perform the function of the button. So, you are constantly waiting on the unit to respond to touch input. When you need to press more than one button, it becomes a major pain in the. It. As a result, it can take easily 15 seconds to perform some functions. Not good when you're driving. 3.). The unit takes a good thirty seconds to boot up when you turn the key on. During this time the unit is essentially dead and you can't interact with it. It seems that I am constantly waiting on this unit to do what I tell it to do. There are much better options out there than this unit.

    Pros: Feature set

Cons: A Painfully slow and weak processor is used in the unit. Total pain in the rear.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The JVC had tons of features and options for customizing your sound. The interface is nice and relatively quick. It only starts to lag when going back to the home screen to pick a new input. The Bluetooth connected rather quickly and maintained connection quite well. I ended up exchanging this unit for another brand because of a couple issues: I purchased this unit for the Pandora integration and that's where the unit started to fall short. When selecting Pandora, it successfully launched Pandora on my phone only 25% of the time. I also had an issue with the Bluetooth audio quality. After multiple tests and a 2nd unit, I still had static, audible in the mid to high range when connected though Bluetooth. Crutchfield has been more that helpful, I will certainly return again for my next purchase.

Pros: Nice Interface Sound options Pretty good power Ease of use

Cons: Bluetooth connection static Pandora integration (maybe my phones problem) Bright LED buttons not dimmable

I really like this unit. Sounds good and is extremely well laid out. The only draw backs are the unit is very slow and the back up camera picture has flashes of color in the display even though I have tried 3 different cameras with it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This 2DIN replacement for my 2005 Honda Accord represents a huge step forward for me. Installation was easy using the Metra 99-7803G dash replacement, to generate a very clean dash with so many new capabilities. I live in the Raleigh NC area, but prefer radio stations in the Washington DC area. With connectivity between my smartphone and the stereo, I can now listen via iHeartRadio to stations in the DC area, even though I am in NC. Additionally the connectivity via Bluetooth to my phone's contacts and hands-free calling capability through the stereo and external microphone is purely wonderful. I haven't yet used the DVD playing option, but I have managed to test its functionality and it works flawlessly. My phone is presently operating via the Android OS, and the connectivity is flawless. The stereo also offers connectivity for iphones, which I will soon be converting to and welcome all the additional features that come with the iPhones.

Pros: All good !!! So many connectivity options.

    Cons: Nothing to report!!!

    Touchscreen + Remote Control

6.2" Touchscreen w/ Gesture Control: The KW-V230BT features a 6.2" TFT Active Matrix, 16:9 touchscreen monitor. The screen has a resolution of 800 (H) x 480 (V) x RGB with 1,152,000 total pixels. The LCD serves as a video monitor, system information display, and touchscreen control panel. Gesture Control lets you operate certain functions of the KW-V230BT by making specific gesture commands on the unit's touchscreen. You can adjust the volume of the multimedia receiver by making a circular motion with your finger on the unit's touchscreen. You'll also be able to navigate your music by simply swiping the touchscreen left/right or up/down.

    • Aspect Ratio & Picture Adjustment: You can change the aspect ratio for video playback. You can select from Full (16:9), Just (4:3 LB), or Normal (4:3), or Auto (automatically selects to match incoming video signal). You can also adjust the unit's display brightness, contrast, color, tint, sharpness, and black level to suit your viewing needs during video playback.
    • Custom Home Screen & Backgrounds: You can customize the head unit's Home Screen by rearranging the icons and moving the icons of the three most sources you use most to this screen. You can choose between nine preset background images or download your own still image (800 x 480) for use as the unit's background from a connected USB thumbdrive.
    • Clock Display: The DVD receiver offers a 12-hour clock which is visible from any source or menu screen. With your vehicle's key in the accessory or start position, the head unit will continue to display the LCD background image, clock, and button illumination during "AV Off" mode. Pressing and holding the Power/Menu button turns the unit off completely.
Note: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire (attached to rear-chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display "Parking Off". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork.

Front-Panel Controls: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons along the left & right edges of the screen. These controls offer a blue backlit illumination.

Dimmer: When the illumination lead (orange/white) is connected and the dimmer set to Auto, the display will dim automatically when you turn on your vehicle's lights. The dimmer can also be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display is always dimmed), or Dimmer Time Set (you program the time for the dimmer to turn off an on).

Remote App (for iOS & Android): The JVC Remote App is an application for Apple iOS 8.0+ and Android OS 4.4+ that controls the JVC receiver like a wireless remote control from your compatible Apple iOS device (via Bluetooth or USB) or Android device (via Bluetooth only). The JVC Remote App provides traditional touchscreen control, as well as directional and freeform gesture control.

    • Source Information & Control: The JVC Remote App provides a Source Control screen with a list of the receiver's built-in sources and connected sources to choose from, so you can change the head unit's source from your mobile device. Once an input is selected, the app displays source information such as station number, track number & playback time, as well as song/artist information (when applicable). From the the app, you can also seek stations and tracks, as well as Play and Pause your music.
    • Audio Settings: From the application on your mobile device, you can adjust the receiver's volume up or down. In addition, audio settings such as EQ, Crossover, DTA, and other audio adjustments can be easily set using the JVC Remote Application.
    • Media Player: The application's Media Player screen lets you playback your device's stored music library through the JVC receiver. From the app on your Apple iOS or Android device, you can control basic playback functions like Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track and Repeat/Random. The Android version of the app even lets you browse your music library by category (Song/Album/Artist/Playlist/Mood). Song, artist, and album information (along with Album Art) will displayed on your Apple iOS or Android device's touchscreen.
    • App Launcher (Android only): The App Launcher feature of the Android version of the JVC Remote app lets you access 3rd party applications within the JVC Remote app's user interface. The App Launcher can contain up to 24 of your favorite apps for quick access.
    Notes:
    • You will need to indicate within the head unit's menu what type of device (Apple iOS or Android) you'll be using the JVC Remote App on before the application will connect and function with the receiver.
    • When using the JVC Remote App with your compatible Apple iOS device, the application and device must be connected to the receiver via Bluetooth (not USB) for playback of Bluetooth audio. For playback of a USB-direct connection from an Apple iOS device, the device and application must be connected to the head unit via USB (not Bluetooth).

Remote Control: The JVC KW-V230BT offers compatibility with factory steering wheel controls (adapter sold separately) and is compatible with JVC's IR wireless remote control (RM-RK258, sold separately) for added convenience.

    • Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).
    • Optional Remote Control: The JVC DVD receiver is compatible with JVC's wireless IR remote control (RM-RK258, sold separately).

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The JVC KW-V230BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 3.0 allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.2 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC KW-V230BT. Check here for the latest Bluetooth compatibility information.

SSP & USB Pairing: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the JVC KW-V230BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. You can even pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5+) or Android smartphone (running JVC Music Play App) by simply connecting it to the JVC head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.

    • Multi-Device Pairing: You can pair up to ten Bluetooth-enabled devices to the JVC head unit, with a maximum of two Bluetooth phones, or one Bluetooth phone and one Bluetooth audio device connected at the same time; making it easier to switch between devices. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units.
    • Dual Phone Connection: Thanks to the Dual Phone Connection feature, two Bluetooth-enabled phones can remain connected to the JVC receiver. This means you can an answer an incoming call from either phone from the head unit. Also, both of your phone's contact lists are downloaded to the receiver. To make a call from one of the phones using the Kenwood receiver, you simply have to select Phone 1 or Phone 2 on the head unit's touchscreen.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. Thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the JVC KW-V230BT provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The touchscreen controls of the KW-V230BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (featuring adjustable gain), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers (All or Front only). During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering A Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the head unit's touchscreen, or setup the head unit to automatically answer the incoming call immediately (within 5 seconds).
    • Dialing A Number: Using the KW-V230BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
      • Enter Phone #: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's touchscreen.
      • Preset Dialing: Allows you to register up to 5 phone numbers for quick dialing. The preset numbers can be accessed from the head unit's touchscreen.
      • Phone Book: You can download phone book data from your cell phone to the KW-V230BT. You can then use the head unit's touchscreen to dial a contact from the downloaded phone book. You can search the phone book alphabetically.
      • Call History: The Call History is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls (up to 10 total).
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply press the voice control button on the head unit's front-panel and speak into the included microphone.
Note: This unit allows you to answer a call or dial out using any option without engaging the vehicle's parking brake.

External Mic: The external wired microphone offers improved audio quality versus an integrated microphone, so you can be heard easier over noisy traffic and road noise. You can adjust the volume level, noise cancellation, and echo cancellation of the microphone without affecting the other sources. The external microphone features an attached 10' cable terminated by a right-angle 3.5mm connector which plugs into the mic input on the rear-panel of the head unit. The microphone offers an integrated mounting bracket which can be clipped to your vehicle's sun-visor or taped to your dash.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The JVC KW-V230BT supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or audio player, plus song/artist information display. You are able to stream your stored music library on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, as well as music apps downloaded on your smartphone to the JVC KW-V230BT for playback.

    • SBC + AAC Codecs: In addition to support for the standard SBC Bluetooth audio codec, the KW-V230BT offers support of AAC. By supporting AAC, the KW-V230BT offers better audio performance of the music streamed from your Apple iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
    • Advanced Music Browsing: In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the KW-V230BT lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4 phones only; which includes Android 4.0+ and iPhone 5.0+).
    • Song/Artist Information: The head unit will also display your stored music and music app's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (not compatible with all apps).
Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired to an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth, the JVC KW-V230BT has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel control and external microphone. Simply press the "phone command" button on the KW-V230BT to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the head unit and its microphone. You can even ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Bluetooth; the head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the KW-V230BT; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

    • Music Drive: When a mass storage class (MSC) compatible smartphone or portable digital audio player is connected to the head unit's USB input, the unit's Music Drive mode lets you select its internal memory or external memory (such as a microSD card) for stored music playback.
    • USB Charging: USB devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the DVD receiver's USB port (max. 1.5A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

MOSFET Amplifier: The JVC KW-V230BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KW-V230BT are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

6ch/4V Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The KW-V230BT features front, rear and subwoofer 4-volt preamp outputs. The front and rear speaker preamp outputs are balance and fade adjustable. The subwoofer preamp output is non-fading and offers independent level control (-50 to +10).

Choose from Compact, Full Size Car, Wagon, Mini Van, SUV, or Off. For a better sound-stage you can select your optimal listening position & rear speaker location.

    • Listening Position + Digital Time Alignment: You can choose from All, Front Left, Front Right or Front. • Rear-View Auto Switching: The video from this connection can be set to display when switched to this input, or display the rear view camera video automatically when the vehicle is shifted into Reverse gear. The purple/white wire (attached to rear chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching. Automatic video switching takes approximately 0.8 seconds.
Note: The rear view camera feature is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Video Output: A single RCA composite video-output jack allows you to an add external monitor such as rear headrest monitor (sold separately). The video output will display whatever video signal that is being displayed on the head unit's touchscreen monitor.

No you cannot use google maps on the touchscreen. Yes, it will charge your iPhone. [ David  Jul 17, 2017 ]
It won't charge your cell phone at the same time and about the maps I'm not sure to tell you the true I wasn't really happy with this head unit. I sell it with my car. [ Lisa  Jul 17, 2017 ]
This radio only accepts fat32 formatted USBs so the largest it takes is 32gb. There are work around but it didn't work for me. You can format a USB to fat32, but Windows 7&10 only like to do exFat so you need to use a work around or an old computer. This is a real PITA, hard to believe a new 2017 radio only uses fat32 still???? [ Greg PA  Aug 17, 2017 ]
I have no freakin clue ? I haven't used that feature since I only stream from my phone to the JVC . If you find out let me know . [ Chadwick  Jul 17, 2017 ]
Yes, the steering wheel control accessory will work with this unit. Fairly easy to program with instructions [ Larry  Jul 01, 2017 ]
no steering wheel controls for the stereo are disabled to install this unit [ Roy Thomas  Jul 01, 2017 ]
Yes, but mine works slowly and sometimes intermittently. Not as good as the car's original radio. Could be my hook-up is somehow faulty, but it does work . . .its just slow to respond and volume changes are sometimes a bit jerky. [ DOUGLAS  Jun 30, 2017 ]
Yes but you have to buy a adapter/controller, they cost about $50 to $100 depending on the company and car. [ Shawn  Jun 30, 2017 ]
The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. Thanks for your question. Yes it does. It plays MP3 as well as WMA, AAC, and WAV. Hope this helps. [ Kenny  Apr 18, 2017 ]  Staff

The signal wire for the parkibg brake must be connected to watch video. [ Michael  Mar 20, 2017 ]

I have had the same radio for a year and have not found a way. Do you happen to know how to adapt an Android phone to the radio [ Cameron  Mar 15, 2017 ]
At this time we're not aware of any firmware updates for the JVC KW-V230BT model. It's certainly possible JVC will release one in the future to address the USB reading issues you mention but it's hard to say if or when that will happen without getting confirmation from JVC first. Feel free to check back with an Advisor by phone (888.955.6000) or chat for any news regarding future firmware updates. [ Larry  Feb 21, 2017 ]  Staff

Well I just put it in my 2016 Corolla, which didnt have gridlines from the factory. When I put this new unit in, there are now gridlines, but they dont move or predict trajectory or anything. I haven't tried to get rid of them yet. [ Barry  Dec 12, 2016 ]
Yes. Head unit has its own gridlines, but you can turn them off in camera settings [ SAMUEL  Dec 07, 2016 ]
Yes the reciever has grid lines. [ CHEF  Dec 07, 2016 ]
I just installed this unit and hooked up the backup camera, tested it out and had one set of gridlines. I didn't have to make any adjustments. [ Patrick  Dec 07, 2016 ]

It does not have navigation on it, but if you have it on your phone the directions or whatever your app says will come through the speakers if you have it plugged in through USB. Not sure if it works through bluetooth or not. Really like this unit though... [ MARK D  Nov 08, 2016 ]
