Our take on the JVC KW-V50BT

JVC's KW-V50BT DVD receiver offers an eye-catching 7" variable-color touchscreen display, a built-in DVD/CD player, USB port, built-in Bluetooth®, and lots of settings you can tweak. But, you can take your driving experience to the next level by using its HDMI input to connect select smartphones and tablets and use a variety of apps on the go.

Maximum Apps

JVC's KW-V50BT DVD receiver offers an eye-catching 7" variable-color touchscreen display, a built-in DVD/CD player, USB port, built-in Bluetooth®, and lots of settings you can tweak. But, you can take your driving experience to the next level by using its HDMI input to connect select smartphones and tablets and use a variety of apps on the go.

What you need

The KW-V50BT's HDMI input lets you enjoy access to many of the apps on your smartphone or tablet directly from the touchscreen controls on the receiver. Here's the lowdown on what you need depending on your smartphone:

  • iPhone® 5, 5C, and 5S: You'll need to connect the Apple Lightning™ to USB cable and an HDMI cable (sold separately) to Apple's Lightning Digital AV adapter. Working with the iPhone 5's Bluetooth, you'll be able to mirror and control select apps on the KW-V50BT's touchscreen display.
  • iPhone 4 and 4S: Connect your iPhone 4 or 4S to the KW-V50BT's rear USB and analog audio/video input using the JVC KS-U59 cable, and you'll have access to JVC's App Link Mode.
  • Select MHL-enabled Android® phones: Once you download the JVC Control app on your phone, you'll connect your Android to the JVC receiver with an HDMI/MHL cable, such as the JVC KS-U61. After pairing the Android's Bluetooth with the JVC, you'll get app control on the touchscreen display.

With your smartphone connected, you can enjoy select navigation, driver assistance, video, and music apps — all of which can be controlled on the KW-V50BT's display or by voice command.

Sights and sounds

You can customize the KW-V50BT's touchscreen layout and set the display colors that best suit your dash. JVC's touch control lets you run your entertainment system with a few swipes to scroll through music folders, skip songs, and adjust the volume.

Once you've got the music you want, you can tweak it with the built-in 3-band parametric equalizer. If you're adding amps, you'll appreciate the three sets of 4-volt preamp outputs for super-clean audio.

Bluetooth of course

Bluetooth gives you hands-free calling convenience, plus a wireless connection to the songs stored on your compatible music player. If you're an Android user, you'll really appreciate this receiver's Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) technology. JVC includes an external Bluetooth microphone which you can place in a good spot in your vehicle for superior hands-free communication.

Got an iPhone with Siri? The KW-V50BT supports Siri Eyes Free through Bluetooth, which means you can ask Siri to make calls, select and play music, compose and hear text messages, read notifications, even use maps and get directions — all commanded by your voice through the receiver. This convenient feature can make your drive safer and more productive.

Lots of music

If you enjoy Internet radio on your iPhone or Android, you'll really enjoy playing music from Pandora® and iHeartRadio® on this versatile receiver. You can scroll through your stations, bookmark songs, and give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down right from the receiver's face.

The AM/FM tuner includes the Radio Data System (RDS), so you get artist, song, and station info on the display. You can also take your radio experience to next step by adding the compatible SiriusXM tuner, so you can get the latest news, talk, and music from your favorite satellite radio stations wherever you drive.

Video on the road

Use the rear analog audio/video inputs to hook up your favorite portable audio player, a camcorder, or another video source. This receiver boasts an audio/video output to send movies to a rear video screen, so your passengers will stay happy during the longest road trips. And, the KW-V50BT's dual zone capability means the kids can watch a movie in the back while you listen to your favorite music up front. If you've got a big vehicle, you'll appreciate the input for a rear-view camera — helpful for when you're maneuvering your vehicle in tight spaces.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this JVC DVD receiver. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the JVC, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

great unit but there are issue s- most around clear documentation about the compatibility with other "devices" 1) USB - ONLY WORKS WITH FAT32 formatted usb devices - why not say this guys!!?? Took me a return and several phone calls to get to this bit of information. Try getting FAT32 working on a 128GB stick "yes it supports 128BG, because size of the stick memory is not a limiting factor" - yes but FAT32 does not technically support above 32GB. 2) Shaker 1000 Ford audio system, yes technically supports all the speakers and such but totally messes with the rear audio - the tech support shipped me 2 larger speakers - did nothing - you need to buy an additional AMP

Pros: connections to so many other devices and formats

Cons: total lack of detail about the real needs / specs to connect to other things

Good touchscreen radio very responsive the only issue I have is that I try to set up my Bluetooth once it's set up it says it's not available. incoming phone calls Bluetooth wouldnt connect even though it says it's connected. music through Bluetooth same issue. good touchscreen radio very responsive the only issue I have is the Bluetooth issue once it's set up. Hopefully there is an update for it I have the iPhone 6 Plus it says it's compatible with It. During daylight hours you can barely see the screen I just wish it was a lot glossier instead of flat. It's in my 2006 pilot. The radio Is angled up because that's how my dash is

Pros: Looks and sounds great. Multiple options for entertainment sources.

Cons: Needing to purchase so many different cables to be able to hook up different devices. Not compatable with most modern phones for android.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I don't have room to list the problems with this unit in 1500 chars! the MHL works on about 10 phones, better check their site before you buy. I have an HTC ONE REMIX that just came out a couple months ago, it is has MHL but their unit does not support the phone. Without NAV on my dash, this unit gives me nothing over the $79 bluetooth adapter I had on my factory unit. The sound is no better and in fact, it is not as good as the factory Mach 460 unit that it replaced. The "equalizer" has 3 ranges you can adjust since they are tied together in bads of 4 frequencies. The bluetooth audio works fine with all apps on the phone but you just get the default PLAY/PAUSE/SKIP options. The Pandora and iHeart radio functions don't work. One time I was able to get the Pandora function to connect and work but after spending 2 hrs trying to make it work again, I gave up. Never got the the iHeart to work. Go ahead and use the USB or a DVD full of MP3's... It plays fine but you can't make directories or organize them in any way. It will play one song at a time from the first to the last so if you want track #130, have fun pressing the skip button 130 times. Speaking of buttons, they feel cheap and flimsy. I suspect the volume button will wear out and stop working within a year or two at best. There was a reason car radios went back to knobs for volume, even quality push buttons wear out much faster and these are not quality buttons. No off button, you can mute but still hear a little sound.

Pros: Pros???? Sorry, I can't see any and need this space for my Cons because I am far from finished. Installation was not bad, I had a good 6 to 8 hrs into it but did a nice job. Had to make my own rear support because it did not come with one and the Metra kit supplied one had no stud or holes to attach it to in the unit. The tuner works well but a digital unit with all that space and they could only find room for 6 pre-selects?!? Bottom line, for the price of this unit, you are getting ripped off.

Cons: No NAV (because MHL don't work), no pandora, no iheart, no funtional MHL on the vast majority of MHL capable phones out there, average at best sound quality, useless CD/DVD player unless your plugging standard audio CDs in one at a time. Useless USB function unless you like one, unchangeable playlist. Cheap mechanical buttons that won't last. Very limited color control, very limited audio tweaking control with equalizer. In short, this unit is worth about 100 bucks to me, I regret buying.

    2007 Toyota Camry
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I previously had a Clarion CX501 and that was horrible. Bluetooth was spotty at best. I have a Galaxy S3 and that thing kept cutting off. With this unit, I've never had that happen at least once. Crutchfield made Installation easy. The only problem I had was the green parking brake wire. Connect it to ground if you can't figure it out, otherwise, your DVD won't play. I have a 2007 Toyota Camry and it seems that it's almost a must to buy steering wheel add on or else you may not get clear radio stations. I didn't have it on my Clarion and my radio station reception was horrible. MHL is ok. If you have a Galaxy S3, you MUST, absolutely must, get the 5 to 11 pin converter. And not just any 5 to 11 pin converter, the one specifically that Samsung manufactures. I had a different brand and 80% of the time, you'll get static on screen. I'm not saying the Samsung 5 to 11 pin converter is perfect but it's less prone to static but you do get them once in a while. Controlling your phone through the screen is kinda clumsy. You really have to press on the screen to scroll left or right. If you do it lightly, you likely will open an App. Also, Pandora is spotty with MHL+Bluetooth. I find that Bluetooth is far more reliable than MHL. So now, I really only use MHL for Google Maps. The rest are Bluetooth. One final tip, remember to update your firmware if it's not up to date. I had to update mine because I didn't have the most up to date firmware. I really should give this 4.5 stars.

Pros: Bluetooth Sound Quality is great Phone quality is great Features great for price MHL (Both pros and cons)

Cons: MHL+Bluetooth can be spotty Glare can be a problem during the day (Though, most of the units I've seen have this problem)

    definitely worth every penny

This is my second JVC head unit in the past 10 years, and I am still impressed. The customizable screens, the EQ (frequency levels can even be adjusted), subwoofer control, screen quality, high voltage outputs, ease of installation, etc are all great reasons to buy this head unit, and that doesnt even count the mhl capabilities, bluetooth, or the dvd playback features. If you want a double din full of features that performs well, but dont want to spend over $500 to get it, this is the way to go!

Pros: Excellent features, great sound quality, looks great and operates smoothly. Many options to expand system.

Cons: None that I can think of yet. I installed the unit 2 days ago, amd havent even gotten to the mhl or bluetooth yet, and Im already very happy.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit was very easy to install in my GM truck and works exactly as advertised. I'm using an iPhone 6 and was making calls and streaming music within a few minutes after connecting the unit. I dropped one star because the iPod connection setup was a bit odd, but Crutchfield had me straightened out in no time. The screen is very bright and the touchscreen is easy to use with big virtual buttons. I do wish the home button was a bit larger, but it works okay. I was impressed by how smooth the steering wheel integration was with the PAC interface.

Pros: Easy install, lots of connections, intuitive touch screen, good integration with vehicle controls.

    Cons: Small physical home button

Works great for Android Note 4. For those saying it won't connect make sure you are using HDMI 1.4 cable, won't work with older cables I tried. Apple shows screen but no touch control except Iheart and Pandora work well with Apple. Android gives complete touch control. Blue tooth works great on both Android and Apple

Pros: Works well with Android. IHeart and Pandora on Apple 5

Cons: No touch control on Apple 5

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've always used high end car audio especially when it comes to Head units since they are key to a good sounding system. This unit replaced a older high end Pioneer H.U. HUGE sound improvement with more substantial sound control. I have owned JVC in the past and this is a top notch H.U compared even to the best units I have used.

Pros: Features, Sound Quality and over all build quality. Bluetooth is quick connecting and works good.

Cons: The APPS are hokey and almost usless. I didn't expect much from these features.I did try the HDMI MHL cable and it's not working for my Note 4. The cable was free so why not try it? but I didn't hinge the purchase on this feature.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall I'm pleased with this unit. I wanted Bluetooth phone connectivity as this state has laws for hands free phone use. Additionally, I wanted a better Sirius interface. The factory unit is very difficult to navigate Sirius channels. I thought having the ability to change the screen angle would be a benefit in the convertible, but for best viewing, the screen stays completely vertical anyway. With the customizable screen colors and backgrounds, it can be made to mimic the look of the stock gauge colors, so it has a factory appearance. I upgraded front door speakers, but I don't feel like the sound quality is significantly improved.

Pros: Large screen Customizable look and colors Integration with steering wheel controls

Cons: In a convertible, screen washes out Buttons instead of knobs (con), however the buttons allow the screen to be larger (pro)

    nice unit for upgrading to.

I dont like that JVC changed the pins around from last gen harnesses to this one and moved the ebrake wire off of the harness. Would have been nice to unplug my old unit and slam this ine right in. The instructions from JVC about MHL and andriod bluetooth set up isnt very good. But for all the nice upgrades its a great unit. Dual zone is great to have now, and the pandora control without pulling my phone from my pocket is just great for me.

Pros: Bluetooth calls and controls. Pandora control

Cons: Bluetooth mic you have to find the right spot in you car or else its horrible.

Got this to replace an axxera purchased two weeks prior because it would not fit. Now the JVCis going back for the same reason. Sticks out of the dash of my 07 Nissan frontier. The motorized front was cool but useless if not ridiculous for this vehicle because how high up the radio at on the dash. I can see how, if the unit was low in the dash, it would be a benefit but not a good idea up high.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS with non nav stock 6 speaker stereo. I wanted to upgrade to a nav system but they ones that seemed to get the best reviews cost way more than my budget would allow. I came across this radio and IMMEDIATELY it got my attention. I checked reviews and knew this was the one for me. Then I noticed Crutchfield had it on sale for $349.99. I snagged this immediately and knew I had some work to do to get this installed. I was nervous as heck. During the install process Crutchfield tech support was awesome...they HELD MY HAND throughout the whole process....even staying on the phone with me while I was soldering the wires!!! I had an issue with the radio mount from Metra not working and ended up using the stock mount after doing some alterations to the mount holes. I have a Galaxy S5 and connected it to the MHL interface of the radio via two items....KSU-61 and EPL-FU10BEBSTD(Samsung 5pin micro usb to 11pin micro usb). It will not work unless you connect the Samsung 5to11 pin adapter on the end of the KSU-61 before you plug it in to your phone. My daughter and I are having a lot of fun with this Radio. I let her watch her favorite YouTube video the other day while in carpool line. Now the best part is I have a nav system in my car and did not have to spend big bucks. I am VERY GLAD I bought this radio from Crutchfield. I could not have gotten through this all without their help.

Pros: MHL touch screen, Parametric Eq,

    Cons: can't think of any...

Finally an affordable head unit that supports MHL and works!

The biggest problem I had was with the installation on my truck where I had to spend time filing to get a perfect fit. Beyond that as long as you understand basic wiring, it the install is a breeze. It took a little work to wire in the automatic rear view camera switch, but it was worth the effort. Such a great aspect to be able to see what is behind my truck when backing up! JVC makes a great product, and the video quality is amazing (in dvd)! The control factor for the equalizer is great and you can set different preferences for different inputs.

Pros: Great screen quality. Large screen. Equalizer controls.

Cons: Tight install, had to modify dash. Time to learn controls.

LoonaC from Austin, TX on 12/23/2014

For GS4 and below you have to get the 5 pin to 11 pin USB adapter. Samsung seems to be out but I got a knock off brand on line. I've had this unit 3 days now. The screen is pretty bad. Even with MHL working the LCD has horrible contrast and resolution. The screen also burns in the menus when switching between screens you'll see the previous screen burned into the current screen for 30 seconds or more. My opinion is that this unit doesn't even have HD Radio and the LCD reminds me of really cheap LCDs when they first came out. Horrible contrast, and viewing angles mixed with the burn in effect of previous menus and the clock. You'll look at your phone all nice and clear and look at the screen all nice and larger but your phones screen looks 1000x better. After all the issues installing it and finding adapters to make it work I'll probably keep it until Android Auto comes out this summer and replace this thing. One last thing is the double DIN install kit for my car interferes with the screen opening and closing. I have to adjust it to get it to open and close, and it gets stuck a lot.

Pros: MHL, big touchscreen, fairly easy to set up, & built in sub crossover.

Cons: The LCD is cheap and your Android phone mirrored on it looks horrible and burns in menus.

    Works ok...

I did not buy my KW-V50BT from Crutchfield, but from a local dealer. Like many, I bought this deck under the guise of being able to control My Android phone ( Samsung galaxy note3) from the deck. Sadly it will not work properly even after aquiring the needed cables with adaptors and downloading the app... It will mirror the screen and play audio through the MHL/HDMI, but the controls do not work like I believed they would. Audio wise and in every other aspect I have zero complaints. I went with JVC as I've had several of their hed unit last 15+ yrs, and the audio quality has always been very good. Overall, I gave it 3 stars. If it had worked as advertised, it'd would get 5 all the way.

Pros: Excellent Audio quality, useful signal processing, and I can watch video. It also seems pretty well made considering it nation of origin

Cons: Lack of real touch screen control for Android devices spoils an otherwise good unit..

I'll temper this with, it's an initial review! Out of the box, very impressed, powered up, sound Q wow, very good. But I bought this because the U connect in my Durango is awful, and I wanted HML, which this "flagship" model supports....except it does not work, on for, yes four different devices. HTC evo, LG smart phone and two samung tablets! Now, I'll give you the two samsungs as I don't have the adapter, but the two phones are running latest android, but don't work, so I go to the JVC support site and start digging. Low and behold, they list maybe 9 phones that work! What the heck, no reflection on Crutchfield, because honestly they are a great company to deal with, but this JVC is a piece O junk. Like I said, initial review, but so far it is unable to do anything I bought it for, which the advertising says it can! Will play over the weekend but likely sending this back as it is grossly mis advertised.

    Pros: it turned on

Cons: it does very little of what it says it can, HML on this is a joke

Great radio for the price. I got it for the MHL feature and Bluetooth. I installed a backup camera with the radio that works great. The MHL feature works great, but had to have the 11 pin to 5 pin adapter for my note 3. Easy to install worth the idatalink module. Only have for about two weeks. Haven't gotten to fully test everything yet, but am very satisfied with it. Customer support has been great with all the questions I have asked before I bought the product, and I know their tech support will be just as good if I need any help in the future. The screen is hard to see in direct sunlight but my factory radio was the same way so it doesn't bother me.

Pros: Easy to navigate, great price. Bluetooth works great.

Cons: Wish the Ipod screen would show both song and artist at the same time.

Simply an amazing machine. I love it!

Seems to be great item so far not bought this for the MHL HDMI capabilities and as it is still a new technology it could use some help with certain things. I do not like that you cannot control your phone from it going down the road that was the whole point of plugging the phone into my radio so i wouldn't have to mess with my phone driving and now I find out it still does not work that way. I'm trying to find a way around it now.

    Pros: Sound, Screen,

Most of the features are user friendly

Pros: Its easy to change from one function to the next, great quality DVD player

Cons: This unit should have come with two USB ports but it does not. I have a Samsung galaxy s5. I was sold a dual mirror cable sl113a, this connects the phone via USB and HDMI to enable charging and mirror function. The problem is you can not use a thumb drive for mp3 because the unit only has one USB port. I would use the recommended ks-u61 and a Samsung HDMI adapter 5 to 11 pin converter so you have a open USB port to use for a thumb drive.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Quality deck and easy to use... for everything except USB thumb drive playback. I like to play my music via USB thumb drive, and this receiver does not read files or folders on a thumb drive in alphabetical order. That's right - when you add files or folders, it will only read them in the order in which you added them to the drive. For example, if you put your Beatles files on the thumb drive from your PC before you put your Aerosmith files on there, the receiver put the Beatles files first. You can't change this. Again, this is the same for folders you create. It sorts them by whatever was created first regardless of name. After some research, I've figured out that the only way to get around this is to delete every file from your USB thumb drive and re-add everything once you have new files to add. Otherwise they will be at the end and out of order, alphabetically-speaking. I paid this much for a receiver that can't sort files in alphabetical order, and I hope I save somebody the trouble I'm having by reading this first. Also note that the folder limit is 250, so if you have around 700 different artists like me, you won't be able to have a separate folder for each. The receiver won't load the USB thumb drive if you do. But you also don't want all of your files in one directory because it makes searching for songs extremely tedious. A folder for each letter and one "0-9" is my solution (don't create them out of order by copy/paste though).

Pros: The phone, settings, and setup are all super easy and intuitive. The preouts are good and the fact that this receiver plays FLAC files is awesome.

Cons: Can't sort files alphabetically, folder limit insufficient. The deck was made for phone users and the USB apabilities were merely an afterthought, unfortunately.

Overall it is a great product! With all the rebates offered (both JVC and SiriusXM), you really save on this bad boy. Plus it's got the MHL feature, which few others have. For the price, you are definitely getting a steal on the features they have.

Pros: Big screen, good touch sensitivity, great color. Easy to install and the bluetooth connects to my devices easily. In car phone calls also are top notch.

Cons: More support for newer Android phones is needed, I'm sure they are working on it, but they aren't quite there yet, and this is mainly the reason for the 4 star rating. The other is that the GUI should have a little more customization (being able to completely reconfigure the home screen instead of just move icons around).

I rated this stereo basically a 4 star mainly due to the fact that it is supposed to support Android phones and tablets but does not completely. I have been unable to get the microUSB\HDMI cable to work. The Bluetooth streaming works great for playing music, but I bought the stereo because it was supposed to support the Android apps via the HDMI cable.

Pros: Great looking, fairly easy to use. Bluetooth streaming is awesome.

Cons: Android app mirroring does not work as advertised via HDMI cable. No simple treble and bass adjustments, have to use EQ to adjust simple tones. Screen will not show artist info unless album artwork is available on USB.

This is my first "real" radio. Been looking at these for the last year and decided on the JVC product. Reason being is that it had the HDMI/MHL connection for my Samsung S4 phone. I installed radio myself and was very easy to. I found that the plastic mounting "hardware" could have been better or even made of metal. I was afraid that I would have tighten the screws down to much and break the plastic. Android connection was straight forward and worked as advertised. For the S4, you will need the 5-11 pin connector as mentioned in the details. Bluetooth Audio - works great, clear, no problems. Bluetooth Phone calls - flawless, the several times I used it, all was clear on my end as well as the callers end. Screen display - wish it was brighter but to have the touch screen that's what it is, my marine electronics touch screen is the same way, just the way the product is. I do think that they wasted space with of the "buttons" that are not functional especially on the radio, cd, Bluetooth audio, etc. screen display. Should have made the text, stations, etc. larger. BT audio streaming is also flawless, no problems there. Next purchase is door speakers for the truck. Overall, Crutchfield service was great, shipping was fast, and used tech support for a few questions during install and were answered quickly. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Pros: Works great with Samsung S4, BT phone calls, BT audio, customizing the home screen, makes factory speakers sound great, tuning in all kinds of stations I was not able to get with factory radio

Cons: To many non functioning buttons on the display, EQ could have a few more adjustments, the larger buttons on home screen could be downsized to allow for more customized buttons, included mounting brackets could have been stronger material or even metal

    Touchscreen Display

7" Motorized LCD Touchscreen Monitor: The KW-V50BT features a motorized 7" TFT Active Matrix, 16:9 touchscreen monitor. The screen has a resolution of 800 (H) x 480 (V) x RGB with 1,152,000 total pixels. The LCD serves as a video monitor, system information display, and touchscreen control panel. The bottom of the touchscreen monitor can be tilted upward at seven different positions to provide the best visibility in your vehicle. The monitor electronically slides down for loading or ejecting a disc.

    • Customizable Home Screen: The Home Screen displays your three favorite source icons (which are customizable), clock/date, phone icon, menu setting, and an "All Source" icon (which changes the Home Screen to display all available sources)
    • Background Image: You can select from 9 different background images for the touchscreen display. In addition, you capture an image from an inserted USB device and use it as a custom background. When using a JPEG file as the background, make sure that the resolution is 800 x 480 pixels.
    • Aspect Ratio & Picture Adjustment: You can adjust the brightness and black level of the unit's onscreen display. You can also adjust the contrast, color, tint, and detail level during video playback. The adjustment level for each setting is -15 to +15. You can also choose from four aspect modes for the in-dash display; choose from Full (for 16:9), Regular (for 4:3), Panorama (for viewing 4:3 in widescreen), or Zoom 1-3 (changes magnification).
    • Adjustable Dimmer: When the illumination lead (orange/white) is connected and the dimmer set to Auto, the display will dim automatically when you turn on your vehicle's lights. The dimmer can also be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), On (display is always dimmed), or Dimmer Time Set (you program the time for the dimmer to turn off an on).

Note: There are eight options for the menu language; including English, French, Spanish, and five others.

Front-Panel Controls w/ Variable Color Illumination: In addition to the head unit's touchscreen monitor, the KW-V50BT features hard-key controls along the bottom edge of the screen. The unit includes push-button controls for Power, Volume, Main Menu, Phone, Display, Mute, and Eject functions. The unit's touchscreen and hard-key buttons color can be changed to one of eight preset colors - blue, light blue, red, green, yellow, orange, violet, or white. You can also choose to have the unit constantly scroll through all eight preset color. In addition, you can create a custom color using a combination (0-31) of red, green, and blue. You can save separate color settings for Daytime and Nighttime driving.

Clock/Calendar Display: The DVD receiver offers a 12-/24-hour clock and month/date/year display which is visible from any source or menu screen. With your vehicle's key in the accessory or start position, the head unit will continue to display the LCD background image, clock, and button illumination during "AV Off" mode. Pressing and holding the "Home" button turns the unit off completely.

Parking Brake Detection: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the light green wire (attached to rear-chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD touchscreen will simply display "Parking Off". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu screens/settings, source information, metadata, and album artwork.

2-DIN Chassis: The JVC KW-V50BT has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double-DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is no mounting sleeve included for a Euro- or Custom-mount installation. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The JVC KW-V50BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (3.0+EDR) allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.4 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC KW-V50BT. See JVC's Bluetooth compatibility chart for a complete list of compatible Bluetooth enabled devices.

Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) + Auto Pairing (for iPhone): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the JVC KW-V50BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. You can even pair your Apple iPhone by simply connecting it to the JVC head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display. When a paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the JVC head unit with a maximum of two Bluetooth phones and one Bluetooth audio player connected at one time (but only one can be used at a time).

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The JVC KW-V50BT supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. Thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the KW-V50BT provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call. The KW-V50BT allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode. Using the KW-V50BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Entering a Phone Number: Allows you to directly dial a phone number up to 32 digits from the head unit's touchscreen.
    • Speed (Preset) Dialing: Allows you to register up to five phone numbers for quick dialing. The preset numbers can be accessed from the head unit's touchscreen.
    • Phone Book: You can dial by using the downloaded phone book. You can download phone book data from your cell phone to the KW-V50BT. Up to 600 numbers can be stored for each registered cell phone. Each number can be up to 32 digits long and each name can be up to 50 characters long. You can search the phone book alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Call History: The Call History is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls (up to 10 each).
    • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone.
Note: This unit allows you to answer a call or dial out using any option without engaging the parking brake.

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Metadata Display): The JVC KW-V50BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The KW-V50BT will be able to control basic playback functions of your Bluetooth device's stored music; such as Play/Pause, Skip Next/Previous, Fast Forward/Rewind and Random/Repeat. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title. The KW-V50BT also supports audio streaming of music apps downloaded on your smartphone with metadata display and limited control. Advanced music control of your music apps will still need be done via your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth (not USB), the JVC KW-V50BT has the ability to access Siri through its touchscreen and external microphone. Simply press the touchscreen "voice command" icon or front-panel button to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the KW-V50BT and its microphone. The head unit's LCD touchscreen will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the JVC KW-V50BT; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

Note: You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

    Disc & USB Playback

Disc Compatibility: The JVC KW-V50BT supports playback of DVD-Video, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-Audio, CD-R/RW, and VCD discs. It also supports playback of MP3/WMA/AAC music files loaded onto a CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, or DVD+R/RW disc. The touchscreen monitor electronically slides down for loading or ejecting a disc.

    iPhone/Android Integration

iPod/iPhone AV Playback: The JVC KW-V50BT supports direct connection of your 30-pin or Lightning-connector iPod/iPhone through its rear-panel USB port and 3.5mm input. The KW-V50BT supports playback of stored music and videos, as well as music and video apps on select Apple iPod/iPhone models. Video can only be displayed while the vehicle is in park.

    • 30-Pin Dock Connector: If you own an older iPod/iPhone with the 30-pin dock connector, you can enjoy audio and video files on your Apple device through the JVC KW-V50BT. Using JVC's KS-U59 iPod video cable (105KSU59, sold separately), you can enjoy audio playback of your stored music and music apps on your iPod/iPhone; plus video playback of your stored movies and video apps on your iPod/iPhone through the JVC KW-V50BT. If you only desire audio playback, you can use the dock connector-to-USB cable that comes with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the KW-V50BT.
    • Lightning Connector: If you have a newer iPod/iPhone with the Lightning-connector, you can use the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the JVC KW-V50BT for audio playback only. You'll be able to listen to stored music and music apps on your Lightning-connector Apple device through the JVC DVD receiver. To watch stored video and video apps (like Netflix) in addition to music from your Lightning-connector Apple device on the KW-50BT, you'll need Apple's Lightning-to-Digital AV adapter, a Lightning-to-USB cable, and a mobile-grade HDMI cable; such as the JVC's KSU-60 HDMI cable (all sold separately) - this type of connection also requires Bluetooth pairing.

Note: You will need to select which type of connection method you are using in the head unit's setup menu.

iPod/iPhone Control w/ Metadata + Charging: The JVC KW-V50BT offers head unit control, song/artist information display, and battery charging for your connected Apple device.

    • iPod/iPhone Control: You can control your connected iPod/iPhone from the head unit's touchscreen. From the head unit's touchscreen you can search for music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Podcast, Genre, Composer, and Audiobook. You can search video by Playlist, Movies, Music Videos, TV Shows, and Video Podcasts. Once a Playlist or Category is selected, the content is listed in alphabetical order. The KW-V50BT also supports Repeat (file/all) and Random (album/all) playback functions of your iPod/iPhone. Newer iPod/iPhones with iOS 6.0+ allow you to continue to access your Apple device's touchscreen so you can navigate your stored music and music apps from the mobile device; older iPod/iPhone devices will be locked during connection.
    • Song/Artist Info + Album Art: The KW-V50BT will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information of your stored music. The head unit will indicate Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song/Album title, and Album Art. The unit will also display metadata information from Pandora and App Link Mode apps. Other applications will simply display the message "Do you want to exit app and switch to iPod Source"; tapping the "Yes" button will take you back to your iPod/iPhone's stored music, while pressing the "No" button turns unit off.
    • iPod/iPhone Charging: While connected and the ignition switch is set to ACC or ON, the head unit's USB connection will power and charge your iPod/iPhone (not the iPad). If your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it.

Apps Mode for iPhone & Android (via HDMI): You can listen to audio from stored music and music apps, watch video from stored movies and movie apps, and view navigation apps on your iPhone (iOS 7+) or Android (4.1) smartphone, using the head unit's HDMI input and its Apps Mode. The head unit will mirror the display of your mobile device (not always full-screen) when in Apps Mode. Apps Mode also provides basic playback control for your iPhone from the receiver's touchscreen; basic playback functions include Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Previous/Next Track. You can even control your Android device from the head unit's touchscreen just like you would from the smartphone; this requires that your vehicle's parking brake be engaged (all other Apps mode functionality does not require the parking brake be engaged). Using either a compatible iPhone or Android smartphone, you can also exit App Mode and access Pandora, and iHeartRadio directly from the head unit's touchscreen with advance music navigation and control. In addition, the iPhone lets you access its stored music and video library from the head unit's touchscreen with advance search and playback control when connected via HDMI. While navigation maps from your smartphone can be displayed on the JVC head unit's touchscreen, the navigation app will still need to be controlled from your iPhone or Android device (unless you have the vehicle's parking brake engaged; in this case you can control Android maps from the head unit's touchscreen).

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The JVC KW-V50BT utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality with Signal to Noise ratio up to 94dB.

MOSFET Amplifier: The KW-V50BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KW-V50BT are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

6ch/4V Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The KW-V50BT is equipped with 6ch/4.0V preamp outputs (Front, Rear, Subwoofer). The front and rear preamp outputs allow fader control, while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. You can adjust the KW-V50BT's subwoofer output level (-50 to +10) independently from the head unit's main volume control for added bass volume. You can also adjust the phase of the subwoofer output between 180-degrees (Reverse) or 0-degrees (Normal).

Built-in Crossovers: The JVC KW-V50BT features a built-in high-pass filter for the unit's front & rear speakers, and a low-pass filter for the unit's subwoofer output.

    • High-Pass Filter: You can activate a variable high-pass filter (40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, 180, 220 Hz or Through) for the unit's front & rear channels (speaker- or preamp-level), so low frequency signals are cut off from your system's front & rear speakers. The front & rear channel's high-pass filters can be set independently of one another.
    • Low-Pass Filter: The unit's subwoofer preamp output features a low-pass filter. In order to prevent high-frequencies from being sent to your system's subwoofers, you can set the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter to 50, 60, 80, 100, 120 Hz or Through.

Speaker Select: You can select which type & size of speaker you have connected to the head unit. Choose from Standard (OEM/Factory), Narrow (4"/5"), Middle (6"/5x7"/6x8"), Wide (6x9").

Pro EQ: The KW-V50BT is equipped with JVC's Pro EQ. The integrated equalizer offers 8 preset sound modes (Flat, Natural, Dynamic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, Vibrant, and User) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The User mode allows you to manually adjust the head unit's 3-band parametric EQ (Frequency, Level, and Q-Factor).

    Frequency Level Q
    Bass 60, 80, 100, 150 Hz +/- 10 dB (-5 to +5) 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2.0
    Midrange 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 kHz +/- 10 dB (-5 to +5) 1.0, 2.0
    Treble 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5 kHz +/- 10 dB (-5 to +5) Fixed

Sound Extras: The head unit provides further sound enhancements for your car audio system.

    • Loud (Loudness): This feature boosts low and high frequencies to produce a well-balanced sound at a low volume level. You can set the Loudness to On or Off.
    • Dynamic Range Compression: This function reduces a Dolby Digital soundtrack's dynamic range so you can hear quieter dialog without being overwhelmed by loud sections. You can choose a setting of On (reduced dynamic range), Dialogue (clearer movie dialogue), or Off (full dynamic range).
    • Volume Adjust: The input level of each source (other than FM) is adjustable relative to the FM radio volume, so there isn't a significant volume difference when changing sources. Each source is individually adjustable from -15 to +6.

Key-Touch Tone: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    AV Connections

A/V Input: The head unit features a rear-panel 3.5mm AV input for connecting a permanent external A/V source, such as a Blu-ray player, gaming console, or mobile ATSC tuner.

HDMI/MHL Input: In addition to Apps mode for iPhone and Android, the head unit's HDMI/MHL input can be used to connect almost any external mobile AV source with an HDMI output; such as a TV tuner, Blu-ray player, or game system. The HDMI input will provide video and audio playback. Your vehicle's parking brake will need to be engaged to view video on the receiver's screen. Playback functions will need to be controlled from your HDMI-connected device.

Camera In: The rear-panel Camera input consists of a composite video connector which allows you to connect an optional rear-view camera (105KVCM20, sold separately). The unit features a reverse gear signal wire, that when connected to your vehicle's reverse light circuit, will automatically switch the KW-V50BT's display to the rear-view camera input. Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.5 seconds. Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.

A/V Output (with Dual Zone): The unit features a rear-panel composite video jack and 3.5mm audio jack to output A/V signals to an optional monitor and headphone system in the rear of your vehicle. You can select Disc, USB, iPod or AV-IN as the rear-panel source; or your can simply have the rear AV output mirror the head unit's selected front source. The volume of the A/V output will be controlled by your rear entertainment system. You can select between a 16:9, 4:3 LB, or 4:3 PS Aspect Ratio for the unit's video output to match your connected monitor.

Note: With Disc, USB, or iPod selected as your front source; you can only select AV-IN, AV Off, or the source playing in the front as your vehicle's rear source. You also cannot select Disc, USB, or iPod as the rear source if your front source is Apps or Pandora/iHeart.

    Remote Control

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

IR Remote: The JVC KW-V50BT includes an IR remote control for wireless operation of the DVD receiver and connected devices (such as Bluetooth, iPod/iPhone, and USB).

    Yes, you can. [ tyler  Apr 15, 2015 ]
Yes, I tried it with audio from my USB and Nav on my phone(Samsung Note 2). To toggle between sources the KW-V50BT has a Display button. What I had to do was have my NAV going first, then I selected my USB app for audio. Once audio was playing I simply press Display button on face plate of head unit, it continued to play my audio while my NAV app was displayed. [ Antonio  Apr 14, 2015 ]
Yes, that just depends on your phone. For example, my S5 will play music from another app on the phone and Google Maps will interrupt the music to give a voice direction. But that is phone dependent. Easiest way to is try to listen to music while your navigation app is guiding you (try walking and doing this so you aren't breaking any laws). If the music can still play then you are good to go! [ Michael  Apr 14, 2015 ]
of course, remember this device just displayer. I would not recommend to purchase it because the resolution is not the same as your phone, still kind of early for such kind of technology. [ zhaochang  Apr 14, 2015 ]
On my iPhone I can play my iTunes playlist while using the navigation apps available when i am connected through the HDMI connection. Hopefully this answers your question [ Stephen  Apr 14, 2015 ]
NAh,no issues, motorized screen works excellent, very nice unit [ RHONDA M  Mar 26, 2015 ]
I can't speak for the 2008 350z, however i had no issues in my 2010 Insight and the Metra install kit. The motorized screen slides down and out but remains within the 2 din "airspace". I hope this helps. p.s. this unit rocks if you are buying it for the MHL mirroring feature. [ Marc  Mar 26, 2015 ]
For details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle. [ Greg  Mar 26, 2015 ]  Staff
You can use both simultaneously while connected via Bluetooth without interference. However, you will not be able to use the app via the head unit as is. You can connect your phone/tablet to the head unit via an MHL3 cable and mirror your phone/tablets display and use the app that way. I've had great success hooking everything up and using app on the head unit as well as streaming Bluetooth and using my phone's display right from the head unit. Hope this answers your question! [ Matthew  Mar 19, 2015 ]
There is no direct link from this unit to your vehicle computer. [ DAVID  Mar 19, 2015 ]
sort of. If you have a BT unit that plugs in and have the app on your phone, then you could mirror the screen on the JVC.....If you can get the phone to connect to the JVC, mine never has [ david  Mar 19, 2015 ]
It works with my iPhone and dash command with a wifi obdii module if that helps [ James N  Mar 19, 2015 ]
I installed a backup camera with my jvc radio, and it works great. [ CHRISTOPHER  Mar 14, 2015 ]
    No I haven't installed a backup camera yet , sorry [ Andy  Mar 13, 2015 ]
Yes and it works great. [ Augustus  Mar 13, 2015 ]
I did not because my vehicle comes with one already..... [ ANTHONY  Mar 13, 2015 ]
I hooked up my factory rear camera in my 2005 4Runner had to do some additional research because toyota uses a 6v camera but works perfectly, good image, no complaints here [ DANIEL  Mar 13, 2015 ]
What kind of backup camera do you have? [ harold  Mar 13, 2015 ]
Backup camera was a super easy install. Works great. [ Eric  Mar 13, 2015 ]
I bought a very cheap camera online and everything worked great. It automatically comes on when the vehicle is in reverse or I can select to manually turn it on at any time. [ Joseph  Mar 13, 2015 ]
I have the Note 4 and my wife's S5 work great! Invested in a genuine samsung MHL3 connector after buying some cheap ones online that never worked. Now it works perfectly and you can use the touch screen just like you would on your phone. [ Matthew  Mar 19, 2015 ]
I have used a note edge with this radio and has worked great the little time I have used it. You will need the 11pin to 5 pin adapter to use with the cord. [ CHRISTOPHER  Mar 14, 2015 ]
Yes, I use my note 4. It's great. Basic Bluetooth connectivity gets phone and media player fine. And when connected (with the right adapter) to the video input, you get full mirroring and touch screen control of the phone through the dash mounted radio! Awesome. Had glitchy video at first, but found out the phone connect cable had come loose at the back of the radio. Once that was reseated and the little screw bracket that holds it in tightened properly, no more problems. [ Gilbert  Mar 14, 2015 ]
    I use iPhone 5 with mine , sorry [ Andy  Mar 13, 2015 ]
As for the back up camera, cant help there cause my truck does not have a camera nor did I buy one. For the satellite radio, I do have the Sportster 5 with docking kits and yes I was able to connect it to the radio via aux cable.....but I think what your talking about is the built system in your car and my thinking you probably will not but need the experts for that. [ JEREMY  Mar 10, 2015 ]
Can't help you on the camera but as far as the Sirius unit, I had to buy one that was compatible with the JVC. It is a SiriusXM SXV200V2 Satellite Radio Tuner. I used to have an Alpine unit that used an XM Direct 2 tuner. This tuner was total crap and after replacing it 4 times, I finally gave up and replaced the Alpine unit altogether for one that had a better Sat Radio tuner. Everything works fine since I switched units. Crutchfield, or JVC, should be able to tell you if your Sirius/XM unit is compatible with this unit. [ Francis  Mar 09, 2015 ]
Im not sure about these questions. The video input is a standard "yellow" rca. Like an old school tv would have. And a 12 volt sorce activates it. Easy stuff. But i bet the altima has a square type connector with quite a few wires, and no rca. You would need a convertor. Satellite options are more flexible. Im sure jvc has an adaptor for this. Hi This is early stage of new technology, it needs a lot of improvement. [ zhaochang  Mar 09, 2015 ]
Yes it does. It has several different angles that it can be set at [ Nathan  Mar 28, 2015 ]
Yes it does, but I keep it in one position and can see it just fine. [ GREGG  Jan 16, 2015 ]
    yes it does. [ JIM  Jan 12, 2015 ]
Hi Tom! There's so many features on this unit that I haven't even been able to use the dvd player yet..... I will tell you this..... The screen is huge and the angle of the screen.... At least in my 2011 sienna...... Is perfect! [ ANTHONY  Jan 12, 2015 ]
Yes it has several tilt adjustments settings [ CHRISTOPHER  Jan 12, 2015 ]
Yes the screen has seven different angles [ GERARDO PIÃ?ONES  Jan 12, 2015 ]
Yep has enough tilt settings you can even use it as a coffee cup holder cuz it will tilt all the way flat [ SPENCER  Jan 12, 2015 ]
Yes it does have tilt screen. Like 10 different angles. [ SCOTT  Jan 12, 2015 ]
Yes it does have tilt screen. Like 10 different angles. [ SCOTT  Jan 12, 2015 ]
    Yes [ MAURICE N  Jan 12, 2015 ]
Yes. It has several positions it will tilt to. [ Eric  Jan 12, 2015 ]
This is early stage of tech, it is not worth to buy. The reflection from the phone is not quality [ zhaochang  Jan 09, 2015 ]
I am not sure. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4. You may want to call JVC to see if it is compatible. [ KEVIN P  Jan 09, 2015 ]
How do you intend to use your Note 4 with the head unit? I have an HTC One phone that has music on it. I utilize the bluetooth input function for playing music and it works great. I also have my Ipod connected via usb; that also works great. As far as playing video I don't know- I haven't used it for that purpose. [ MICHAEL  Jan 09, 2015 ]
Depends on which Galaxy Note. I know the Note 2 and 3 will work but keep in mind you have to buy an adapter for it to share the screen from the phone to the radio. It is a 5-11 pin adapter that Samsung sells from their website. [ tyler  Jan 09, 2015 ]

I am using the Samsung Note II with my receiver. I am connecting via the HDMI cable and Bluetooth. YouTube is viewable on the receiver display. This is possible because the receiver mirrors anything on your phones display. Audio comes in through receiver so you can control the volume as well. [ Antonio  Nov 14, 2014 ]
utilizing the MHL link along with Bluetooth you should be able to watch anything you watch on your phone as the screens are mirrored. [ Hud  Nov 11, 2014 ]
The S5 is a compatible device with the MHL cable. With your phone plugged into the cable, the head unit display is mirroring your phone display. You'll see YouTube as well as other apps like your GPS map and turn by turn directions. I really like that feature. Good luck. [ Kenneth  Nov 10, 2014 ]
Yes you can watch youtube, however the phone has to be plugged into the radio using the hdmi cable/dongle which you have to buy seperate. [ JIM  Nov 10, 2014 ]
Hi Matt. What I believe is the best feature of this unit is that it does NOT support Apple's "CarPlay". Units with CarPlay are restricted to only be able to run and display certain apps to make it safer for driving. What this unit does, is simply appear to your iPhone as a TV. I'm not sure if you've tried plugging your iPhone into your TV or computer monitor at home using HDMI, but that is exactly how this unit acts when it's plugged in. It just mirrors whatever is displayed on your phone's screen including the home screen. So to answer your question, yes, you can watch YouTube on it. Two things to be aware of: 1. To properly use this unit you need 2 cables and 1 adapter: An Apple Lightning to USB cable, and you'll need the Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter ($49). 2. While you CAN display any app on the screen (which is great), some apps are specially made to work with this unit. When you use an app that is specially designed to work with the unit the screen is a little larger (uses all the available space instead of leaving a border) and it doesn't matter if you turn your phone vertical or horizontal it will still display properly (landscape mode). The GPS app I use is called MotionX Drive and it works awesome with this unit (I think it was an extra $20 in-app purchase to enable the "JVC" mode) I used this unit with my iPhone5, and now use it with my iPhone6 still works just the same. I'm sure it would be the same with a 5s [ Zachary  Nov 10, 2014 ]
Yes you can. Just use the HDMI adapter that crutchcrutchfield adds complimentary to your order. [ Richard  Nov 10, 2014 ]
Yes, you can. You will need the adapter to go from the Galaxy S5 to HDMI, and then it will display the video on the screen and audio through the system. [ Samuel  Nov 10, 2014 ]
you like I probably bought all the connections for the MHL. I too have the s5 and it doesn't work properly. JVC needs to update the app software for the s5 to work but they have not done it yet. basically the only functionality is mirroring the phone screen to the receiver screen and that's it. You can only use the apps but engaging them on the phone only so definitely no touch on the receiver screen until JVC update the app software to work with the s5 this is a completely worthless function on this radio if you have the s5. [ Hud  Sep 29, 2014 ]
Yes you can, either via bluetooth, or MHL connection, just download the JVC smartphone APP from the Play store and follow the instructions for setup with the JVC KW-V50BT. [ Richard  Sep 29, 2014 ]
Don't know answer to that as I still have and use the S4. [ JEREMY  Sep 29, 2014 ]
Howdy! Yes, it will work - but not right outta the box. You will need one of these in order to make it mirror the display on your S5 (I have the same phone and can verify that it does work). This window won't let me embed a link for you, but if you do a google search with this, you'll find exactly what you need. StarTech Samsung Galaxy S5 MHL to HDMI - Micro USB to HDMI Adapter Converter - Samsung S5 to HDMI Television or Projector - 1080p Once you get one of those, and use an HDMI cable, you will be able to fully mirror the phone on the display of the KW-V50BT. [ Samuel  Sep 29, 2014 ]
Yes. samsung galaxy S3 and up. But the resolution reflect from the phone is not what I expected it. I will give it 3 stars. [ zhaochang  Sep 29, 2014 ]
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Krissy  Aug 11, 2014 ]  Staff
It depends - if you are just playing music from your Android phone's music library - then, no. If you are streaming iHR via your Android, it will. [ Samuel  Nov 10, 2014 ]
It does not. Simple display with play, rev, fwd, pause and album info including run time. I hope this helps. Ken [ Kenneth  Aug 10, 2014 ]
No but it does display the song, artist and album info in text format, no images. Now if its connected via hdmi cable with required adapter, it does display it. If you have more questions or need pics ill be glad to answer or provide. [ JEREMY  Aug 09, 2014 ]
It is displayed via Bluetooth from my iPhone, so it should work with Android [ Stephen  Aug 09, 2014 ]
Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget. [ Krissy  Jun 01, 2014 ]  Staff
