Polk Audio Atrium4
All-weather indoor/outdoor speakers (White)
Our take on the Polk Audio Atrium4 by Crutchfield's Tara W.
Turn your backyard into an outdoor concert hall with Polk's Atrium4 speakers. These small speakers offer great sound, thanks to 3/4" tweeters and 4-1/2" woofers. And the rugged, weatherproof design meets or exceeds stringent military specifications for full exposure to the elements. That means you'll get years of superb performance, wherever you place them.
Polk's new Speed-Lock system makes mounting the Atrium4s quick and easy. Install the bracket and simply click the speaker into place. Just aim the sound towards your listening area and then tighten down the included thumbscrew.
Works good. Sounds good. Could uses sealed connections for outdoor use but that's all.

Weatherproof Design: Polk Audio All-Weather Certified, Atrium Series speakers exceed baseline industrial and military specifications for environmental endurance (ASTM D5894-UV Salt Fog, Mil Standard 810 Immersion, Mil-Std 883 Method 1009.8 for salt and corrosion.) Certification means Atrium speakers can effortlessly withstand the outdoors, and hold up in extreme temperatures and precipitation.
Polk Patented Technologies: Patented Dynamic Balance and Klippel Optimization technologies ensure the perfect material performance, eliminating driver and tweeter "artifacts" for more realistic sound reproduction at high and low volume levels.
- Dynamic Balance: A Polk perfected method of analyzing a speaker's microscopic behavior with laser Interferometry. Polk engineers can tune out unwanted resonance and distortion with the right combination of materials, geometry and construction techniques. This brings you pure, distortion-free sound.
- Klippel Optimization: By using a state-of-the-art Klippel Distortion Analyzer, Polk engineers were able to optimize the woofer's motor structure, voice coil alignment and suspension bringing you the best possible performance even at extreme listening levels.
Woofers: Each speaker features a 4 1/2" (11.43cm) long-throw mineral-filled polypropylene cone driver for clean midrange and deep, accurate bass. For a smoother response and improved durability, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.
Tweeters: Each speaker features a 3/4" (19mm) anodized aluminum dome tweeter with rubber surround and neodymium magnet for better power handling and smoother response.
Rugged Enclosure Design: The durable, mineral-filled polypropylene cabinet design, with molded-in bracing, sounds like a real speaker (not "an outdoor speaker"), and survives years of seasonal changes, for great sound, no matter what the weather. The rugged, mineral-filled polypropylene enclosure features a rustproof aluminum grille, rustproof aluminum bracket, and stainless steel/brass hardware.
Note: The speakers are available in a black or white finish. The enclosure is also paintable.
Broad Coverage Baffle Design: The sculpted front, steeply-angled baffle design and rounded enclosure minimize diffraction (sound reflecting off of hard edges) for more open and lifelike imaging.
5-way Binding Posts: The Atrium 4 has a pair of gold-plated 5-way binding posts that will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, single- and dual-banana plugs.
Speed-Locking Mounting System: The included rustproof aluminum brackets allow multiple mounting options and are quick-and-easy to install. The Atrium 4 can be mounted either horizontally or vertically and aimed to deliver the best possible sound in a variety of situations The integrated brackets provide full 180-degree rotation (when mounted vertically or horizontally. The mounting brackets even allow the speaker to be mounted snugly in a corner or under an eve (at a downward 45-degree angle). You can remove the bracket and use the speaker's built-in stability feet, if you simply want to place the speaker on a table or shelf.

Personally, I don't see why not. I live in Michigan and since I mounted them outside on my deck 2 years ago I haven't taken them down. They still work like new. However, I would take them down if you don't live there year round because if other people hear them, they may walk away when you aren't there if you know what I mean because they do sound good. So good that I bought a second set for a place we have up north. [ Shane May 31, 2017 ]

Yes, I think you will like it [ PHIL May 30, 2017 ]
Should be fine. As with anything in salt air the life might be reduced vs a normal porch. [ Chad May 30, 2017 ]
No [ PASCAL May 30, 2017 ]
Yes they can be hooked up to a outside tv and no they are not Bluetooth. [ Johnny Jan 13, 2017 ]
Not directly. They need to be driven by an amplifier. They do not have built in Bluetooth either. That said, they are very good outdoor speakers, but may not be what you are looking for. [ Bill Jan 13, 2017 ]
No [ PASCAL May 30, 2017 ]
There is paint on the market for to use just on plastic materials. But, I suggest you don't paint them. [ Scott Jul 24, 2015 ]
Yes. Remove grill and cover cone and tweeter. I painted to match an outdoor space at a country club. [ PAUL J Jul 24, 2015 ]
I don't see why not, but I would go with the white ones and paint those. It might be hard to cover up the black completely. [ Edward Jul 24, 2015 ]
I would say yes, use a spray paint so the grill doesn't get clogged. [ THOMAS Jul 23, 2015 ]
Yes [ PASCAL May 30, 2017 ]
Have them installed on an outside wall about a foot under the eve. No problems. [ JESSE Apr 08, 2015 ]
They are able to withstand the elements but I have mine up under my overhang so they don't stick out so much. They sound great. James [ JAMES A Apr 07, 2015 ]
We have 2 sets of these speakers which have done really well outside. However, ours are mounted on outside porches with overhead cover so I'm not sure about total exposure. I do know that ours have gotten wet and icy in spite of the cover because we are on a mountaintop with extreme wind. [ mary Apr 07, 2015 ]
I've had them up under the eaves of my back porch by the pool for a few years and the're doing just fine. While they aren't in direct weather, the eaves are fairly short, so I'm sure they're getting partially wet. They sound great and at a reasonable price, so those were the two biggest factors for me. Hope that helps! [ MARK Apr 07, 2015 ]
Mine are under the eaves of the roof line. I'm sure they get some wind driven rain from time to time. They work fine. [ KELL C Apr 07, 2015 ]

Sorry, don't know. I have them as my front presence speaker for a 9.1 system. I got them free with Polk purchase, very nice speakers, seem very durable and very well made. [ Laurence Mar 14, 2014 ]
I USED THESE OUTSIDE ON MY PATIO. I MOUNTED THE BRACKET VERTICALLY AND THE SPEAKER CAN BE ADJUSTED LEFT OR RIGHT. IF YOU MOUNT THE BRACKET HORIZONTALLY, YOU SHOULD BE OK. THE SPEAKER CAN BE ANGLED UPWARD..BUT THE SPEAKER WILL BE TOO BIG TO ANGLE STRAIGHT UP. HOPE THIS HELPS [ jeff Apr 30, 2017 ]
Only if you hang the brackets horizontally. [ RUBEN A Apr 29, 2017 ]
They would work fine , a little bulky for inside a house and unless you have a flood, the weather resistance is wasted inside :). Have you looked into the owm3 by Polk? They have an awesome look to them and can be mounted all sorts of ways [ Aaron Doran Apr 06, 2016 ]
We don't have any info about replacing the woofers in the Atrium4 speakers, but if yours are still under the manufacturer's warranty (5-years), it's possible Polk will replace them for you. You can contact Polk directly for more information at 800-377-7655. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159 [ Larry Feb 10, 2016 ] Staff
I have a patio that is about 20x40 and these work perfectly in that space. [ MICHAEL Jan 31, 2014 ]
we have them mounted about 7 feet up on our terrace, the area is 10x25 feet, and they provide excellent coverage for the requirement, which is largely background music for parties [ ADAM C Jan 29, 2014 ]
It has rained so much since i got the speakers i was unable to put them up. Sorry i couldn't be more help. [ GREGORY Jan 29, 2014 ]
I use them on my patio outside but I am not happy with the sound when you turn up the volume. They rumble and sound like a blown speaker. [ RICHARD Jan 29, 2014 ]
I use these around my pool/patio area and it is approximately 50' x 100'. The speakers are clear and plenty loud enough for my type of listening (background music). My speakers are about 125 feet from my receiver, so there is probably some more power there, but ohm draw is high at that distance. The only thing I wish I had more of, is some bass, but I really can't expect too much boom boom from ceiling mounted speakers. Overall, I am happy with these. They look good, sound good, and mount easily. [ JOHN Jan 28, 2014 ]
