    Always Love Polk

Eric from Livermore, CA on 8/27/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I can't say enough good things about Polk speakers. I'm using these as my rear surrounds for an outdoor theater and they sound great, they look great and the enclosure and the bracket are wonderfully put together. When you mount the bracket, the speaker snaps into place to allow you to adjust it and screw in the end caps to hold them more securely, but the bracket holds so well that you almost don't even need the cap. The enclosure feels solid and the sound is great.

Pros: Great sound, solid enclosure, solid mounting bracket

    Cons: None

We have a pretty large back yard so we went with the 7's. Even with just the two it has such a nice sound. Very even, good coverage and probably can be played louder than I'm sure the neighbors would appreciate even being an acre away.

Pros: Easy to install and sounds great

Cons: A little big for where we had to hang them but they look good so not really that "con"

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers to replace an aging pair of Paradigm stylus 270 speakers. The Polk Atrium 7 speakers are a significant upgrade, providing much richer sound and fuller bass for a large deck and pool area. They sound equally good at low or high volumes. They are large so you need ample space to install.

Pros: Full bass and rich sound.

Cons: None, except perhaps size if you do not have the space.

Dan from Arnold, MO on 8/18/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased these speakers for an outdoor deck/pool installation. Was a bit concerned that they would not provide enough bass response. Wired my outdoor system so that I could easily connect a Polk 100W subwoofer into the circuit path. Have tested the speakers both ways (with subwoofer and without). The Atrium 7's provide great bass response on their own. They fill the entire deck/patio/pool area (1800 sq ft) with excellent sound. Could not be more pleased with the results.

Pros: Excellent sound reproduction at all listening levels.

Cons: It is entirely too easy to irritate my neighbors (make that subdivision) now.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these after comparing them to the Bose 251 outdoor speakers. The speakers are used with a Lifestyle 48 system so I was leaning towards the Bose... but these received better reviews. I was pleasantly surprised in how great the sound really was. Almost as good as what the Bose system provides indoors.

Pros: Awesome sound... from the highs to the lows. Based on appearance and ratings... should hold up to our "extreme" weather.

    Cons: A bit expensive.

Cons: No attaching hardware - Only comes with the bracket. Need #10 screws to install. No big deal!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Polk Audio Atrium 7 acquired them to replace a pair of aging Bose outdoor speakers. This is a tremendous upgrade from the Bose speakers. I researched outdoor speakers for a while before deciding on the Atrium 7. Visited just about all audio stores around my area, listened for best sound possible and researched all reviews online. These speakers blew the competition away because you can hear all ranges of sound; low, mid and highs. Plus Crutchfield had them for $100 off. Installed these speakers on the ceiling of the patio pointing toward the pool deck. The Atrium 7 are big and I mean huge when compared with the Bose I replaced or other speakers considered. Once installed on the ceiling they look really good. Installation was extremely easy as well. The white ones blend great with the ceiling. Was powering them with a Pioneer VSX-1120K receiver rated at 110 WPC in zone 2. However, the Atrium 7 are power hungry. With the Pioneer receiver I could crank the volume all the way up and the speakers were asking for more volume. Decided to purchase a Yamaha A-S500 amplifier to deliver the right amount of power and OMG, the difference is amazing. Crisp; clear sound at all volume levels. There is no doubt in my mind these are the right outdoor speakers for my patio. If your receiver doesn't deliver the power they need, you have to get an amplifier. For a big patio, the Atrium 7 deliver the right amount of crisp sound to fill the space. I am very satisfied with the Atrium 7.

Pros: Crisp Sound at all volume levels and easy to install.

    Cons: Big and expensive

    Perfect Patio Speakers

Joe from So Cal on 7/4/2013

Nice full sounding outdoor speakers. Really enjoy how clear and rich the music is at low volumes. These speakers put out a lot of sound that really disperses well into my yard. Much better than blasting my portable into speaker distortion in order to get the same amount of music around my patio. Easy to install...plan your wires first!

Pros: Rich full sound at low volume

    Cons: None

Polk Audio Atrium 7's I have owned for a year now and could not be happier. The sound quality and the range for my large yard is exceptional!! My only regret is it took me this long to write a review on such a wonderful quality product. The service over the phone was very helpful and I will be a customer for life. Thank you very much Crutchfield, you are awesome!!

Pros: Easy installation, all around excellent product!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have to be wrong but I think the Atrium 7's are being discontinued and I don't know why. They are fantastic speakers. What amazed me is how wide of a sound field they set up. Polk has done an incredible job here. I get really nice bass and good mids. I thought they were a little bright out of the box but they seem to have settled in and sound great. The build quality is rock solid and I expect them to last for years. Polk has a nice job making these speakers super easy to mount. Without a doubt, of all the reviewers of the Atrium speakers, I am the stupidest. And you know what, I am ok with that. I felt like a Rhodes Scholar because I so handily mastered their install. Buy these while can can.

Pros: Huge sound stage, solid sound and even a dummy like me can install them.

Cons: A little bright out of the box but they seem to even out after time.

Dave C. from Northern Cali on 9/8/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Originally ordered a set of Atrium 4's elsewhere, good little speakers (especially good for their price), but just felt like they weren't quite getting the job done for my 15' x 35' back deck. So I sent them back and ordered the 7's here from Crutchfield with their $100 off promotion. All I can say is: Wow! Over twice as heavy, larger (but still small enough to put just about anywhere), and oh so much better sounding. The bass is particularly more impressive by leaps and bounds. The highs on both the 4's and these sounded great, but these are definitely a bit more clear and vibrant. Obviously these are more $$, so if on a strict budget the 4's would be a great choice and sure to please. But if not, then "go big" as they say. The improvement is definitely noticeable and fills my back deck space now easily to where I have to keep an eye on the volume lest I anger the neighbors. ;-) I'm running them off a 6 year old 100 watt Denon receiver, just a mid-grade one. Nothing too special, and the speaker wire that was previously built into the walls is only 16 gauge (I can hear true audiophiles shrieking in horror)... and they sound great. I've cranked them on all types of music, and no problems with sound quality whatsoever (at least not to my layman's ear). Point being, don't sweat all the details... this gauge wire, that gold-plated connector, this high-end receiver. If they sound this good on my setup, you can't go wrong.

Pros: Great sound, ease of mounting, look high-end and impressive. Apparently incredibly weather resistant from what I've read.

Cons: Price. I got them with the $100 discount, which put them at $399. Don't think I'd have spent $499, their normal price. Though for how good they sound, and how well made they are, they're probably worth that. Depends on your needs and budget, I guess. I was pretty impressed overall with the 4's, and they're certainly a lot cheaper.

Great speakers... Did not expect the amount of sound that came out of it, I have a huge yard and fills the whole thing up and more. I am very pleased. If you're playing that game of " I dont know which to choose" then just go by this... super big yard get the 8's , huge yard get the 7's and so on.

    Pros: Nice sound. Easy install...

Cons: It's not wireless... (can't have it all).

Easy Installation with great outdoor sound. I installed these under a covered patio. One in each corner. The driver is an Onkyo reciever rated at 100watts. The speakers sound wonderful. Very clear with good bass response.

    Cons: they are pricey

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was a little hesitant to buy the Atrium 7s without ever hearing them, but after listening to the 4s in a store and reading great reviews, I took the plunge. I have no idea why anyone would ever question whether there is enough bass. If anything, I have to adjust the bass level down to keep the music balanced. They sounded great even before I mounted the speakers (I tested them first). Maybe the issue is that others didn't have enough clean power to drive these awesome speakers (I've got 150 watts). My original concerns were sound quality, and whether I could fill a large back yard with music. Now I just have to make sure I don't have neighbors complaining about the volume from these two small but powerful speakers. Kudos to Polk on these great outdoor speakers, and to Crutchfield on delivering even faster than promised.

Pros: Great sound quality at all volume levels Easy to install

    Cons: None

    Great sound, good mounting options.

Sean from Dallas, TX on 5/8/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound quality is what I've come to expect from Polk. They are great speakers for the money. You can find better, but you'll be paying three to four times as much... PER SPEAKER! Mounting system is good and secure, but loses a star because even following guidelines my original placement under my soffits was about a half inch too high. Thankful for exterior wood putty and leftover paint.

Pros: Great bass response for an outdoor speaker. Overall great sound quality for the money. Good looks, good mounting system.

Cons: For mounting under your overhangs, recommended measurements might be off just a little. Err on the side of extra space.

    Great sound, dumb connection design

B.D. Blaque from Central IN on 6/28/2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased for a patio/pool deck, bordered on one and a half sides by house (picture a capital letter 'L', rotated 90 degrees anticlockwise). Roughly 50' wide by 40' deep. Considered these, as well as Boston Voyager 7s. However, Boston is IMO unnecessarily proud of their outdoor stuff, as illustrated by their pricing. The fact that these were both $160 cheaper, and had a special running, made it an easy choice. I mounted them under the soffit, at the ends of the horizontal section of the 'L'. The fact that one is somewhat corner-loaded did extend the bass somewhat. They sound great, couldn't be more pleased from that perspective. Would always like more low-end, but 8-pound 12x8 boxes do have their limitations. My only real gripe is the placement of the connectors - they use banana jacks/binding posts, but they're positioned in a recess on the back in such a way that 90% of the plugs on the market won't fit (the Atrium 5s share this fault; I assume the rest of the Atrium line does as well). It's telling that the manual doesn't even mention banana plugs; it directs the user to use them as binding posts. For an outdoor system, I think that's stupid - you do NOT want bare copper exposed outdoors. I modified a pair of plugs to fit, all is well.

    Big, high quality sound

lavajoe from Denver, CO on 6/17/2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I mounted these on the outside/back of our 120 year old brick house in order to provide music for our backyard "entertainment area" (deck/patio/firepit/pond). I have them connected to my very old 80 watt/channel integrated amp. The bass is amazing, and the sound is quite detailed, full, and rich. These speakers produce such big sound that I need to keep an eye on the volume so as not to become known as the "neighbor who is always blasting music". I have not compared these to the smaller models, but they certainly fill up our outside area very nicely.

Got these speakers and sub very quick. The packing was done very good for both. Easy to mount Hooked up to a Sonos 120. Working good. Very good sound on low and if you want you can hook up a amp to give the speakers what they want. But its no need. Tried also the sub to the Sonos 120 but since this sub is not outdoor I put it inside again. Working great and good adjustments. Recommend Highly !

Polk Atrium7 - Excellent and worth the price.

Thomas from Fort Worth, TX on 8/1/2010

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased several pairs to place around my pool and deck. I considered many brands and found the choice difficult, as it is difficult to audition outdoor speakers. I decided to spend the money for the Polks based on company reputation, weatherproof engineering features, and local audition of smaller Polk models. The speakers are mounted on short posts in landscaping and fully exposed to the elements. I needed something truly weatherproof and was concerned the bass response might be weak without reinforcement from adjacent walls. Rock speakers wouldn't work in some of my locations. These turned out to be great sounding speakers, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. They are worth the price. Music sounds great! They can play much louder than I could get away with in my residential neighborhood. Polk seems accurate with the efficiency claims, based on comparison with my indoor speakers. Test tones indicate good bass down to below 50 Hz, even mounted away from any reinforcing wall or corner. I haven't auditioned everything out there, but I believe it would be difficult to find a better sounding outdoor speaker.
