Good music becomes great when you hear it through Polk's db Series car speakers. Polk engineers use laser imaging to determine the ideal combination of speaker materials and design to eliminate distortion. The resulting technology produces speakers with smooth frequency response, sharp detail, and the ability to play music at high volumes without strain.
Polk's versatile db6501 component speaker system features 6-1/2" woofers made from a polymer/mica composite and durable rubber surrounds that won't fall apart under stress from heat, moisture, or time. Liquid-cooled 1" silk/polymer dome tweeters use powerful Neodymium magnets to deliver precise high-frequency reproduction, enveloping you in bright musical detail. You can surface- or flush-mount the tweeters with the included swivel-mount cups. Just aim the tweeters so they broadcast toward your ears, creating a powerful stereo image.
External crossovers direct the right frequencies to the tweeters and woofers to maximize their performance, and their housings let you hide all wiring for a clean, professional look. These speakers feature stainless steel mounting hardware and muscular ABS grilles that will add a stylish touch to your car's interior. And Polk certifies their db Series speakers for marine applications, so they're a great choice for your boat, motorcycle, or ATV.
Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

2003 Jeep Liberty. Pioneer DEH X2700U deck. Polk DB+ DB652 6-1/2" 2-way Speakers in back. I've been using these for a few months now and I've come to accept what they can do (with my current set up). What I immediately noticed: GOOD) Much better sound quality, clarity & imaging. BAD) Can't seem to push them as loud as my stocks and with the cleaner sound you lose that stock "boom." This last point really affected me the most and I miss that boom, but I've never not had stock so I had to adjust to it. I was deciding between these or just adding an amp and sub to my car but I'm happy I got these as the sound quality was a huge improvement. At lower volumes (<=30 notches on a Pioneer), you can get them sounding amazing with decent low (a richer/cleaner low but much less boomier than stock) and coupled with Polk's silky smooth tweeters...but it's still just not enough for me. Once you start rocking over 35-40+ they just can't handle the EQ and begin distorting. I need that loudness and that kick/punch. So I decided to just tune them well focusing on clarity and mid-bass and am going to invest in an amp and sub to fill out that low end, hopefully letting me push everything a little more too. Music taste: metal, screamo, dubstep, instrumental, 70s, 80s, 90s, pop, folk, indie, rock.
Pros: Clarity Quality (for those audiophiles out there) Imaging +/- 3db toggle on crossovers for tweeters Look nice
Cons: Can't seem to push them as hard as stocks
Sounds awesome very clear highs and nice deep lows
Pros: Easy to install and good sound
Cons: Couldn't find nice place to flush mount tweeters in cobalt
You cannot go wrong with POLK speakers - these sound amazing
Pros: Very Nice speakers
Easy install. Polk has been my favorite for awhile. The components sound awesome and are loud. Very happy with my purchase.
Pairing these speakers with a factory head unit and a 50W RMS aftermarket amp is a good combination at a great price. These speakers make the head unit sound so much better. But at the same time, show the limitations of the head unit. Component setup with tweeters on the dash is in itself a huge improvement.
Pros: Fantastic clarity and balanced sound.
Cons: Using test tones, I'd say the 35 Hz rating on these is a stretch. 45-50 Hz in my simple door speaker swap. Maybe if they were in a box??
Installed these with an amp in a 2016 Tundra. I went to the trouble to make sealed enclosures for the drivers in the doors. I have a set of Polk Co-axes in my other truck, which sound phenomenal. The drivers lacked punch, and the tweeters were not as crisp as I expected. Maybe it's the factory head unit, but I expected better. Still a great buy and a quality product, and my friend/customer was very pleased with the final product.
Pros: Silk dome tweeters are not harsh on the ears. Polk build quality. Adjustable gain on the tweeters in the crossovers.
Cons: Not up to the task of being "reference" speakers, but ok for the price.
great speaker, prefect fit, will recommend and purchase again for different vehicles
Using with Clarion CX505 head unit, no amplifier, and factory wiring. Speakers sound great and added very crisp low end to seriously lacking factory sound system. Used a longer machine bolt to use the included hardware and flush mount bracket. This allowed me to install the tweeters in the factory dash location. Mounted the crossovers behind the lower dash panel.
Clear highs, clean install.
Pros: Came exactly as described. Great audio.
Cons: Showed how weak my factory head unit was.
I was installing those speakers on the deck of my car. It's took me good 5 hours, cuz the tweeters I was installing in the front panel. The adapter bracket didn't fit, so I have to do some additional drilling. Giving 5 stars , cuz the sound quality very good. Bass is acceptable.
Pros: Good sound, great value.
This is a great set of component speakers. Tweeters sound very smooth and not scratchy. Woofers put out clean sound down to the crossover level which I have set around 100HZ. Crossovers are somewhat large but were able to find a location to hide them under the dash. Ran 16AWG speaker wire to the crossover and then used the supplied speaker wire to each speaker. Can't go wrong with this set.
Pros: Great sound and straight forward installation
I literally got done installing these about 30 minutes ago. Took me a solid 3 hours to install. I had troubled with the door panel. They sound fantastic especially paired with the db651's and a Kenwood kdc-x599 HU. I started messing with the treble and bass on the HU and they can handle it to the max volume on the HU. I can't wait for them to actually be broke in. The hardest part was having to figure out how to route my wires and where to mount the crossover. The driver door (first attempt) went fairly well. I took my time and it went good until I put the door panel back on. I tested woofer and tweeter both were working and I set crossover to -3. Then I tested the window and it was binding up. It was where I put the crossover. After moving it. (Second Attempt) I put the door panel back on. It would not line up. Took it off and it turned out I broke a clip the second pull off. So I fixed it and put it back together. It was working. Passenger Side was a lot easier and faster since I new what I had to do. I had to fix the window motor as well. That door including the window motor took 45 minutes.
Pros: Good Bass Good Treble Low Cost Simple Installation Sound Great Overall Crutchfield is always available for amazing help! I didn't need tech support for this install though.
Cons: Time Consuming Had to drill my door panel using a hole saw and dremel.
Excellent clarity could not be more happy
Pros: Killer highs
excellent speakers would recommend to anyone
Pros: great bass and highs
After much research and sifting through options I came across these beauty's. Sound is clean and crisp. No distortion. And as a small topper I think they look awesome.
Pros: Sound is very clear. Highs are good mids are good
Cons: Low end could be a bit better but that's what subwoofers are for.
Best sounding speakers... Possibly better than jl audio. Crisp highs. Decent bass. And clear mids overall. Nice balanced speaker but i want to see how they sound on an amp. They still get a 5 star though.
Pros: Inexpensive. Clean. Loud. Beautiful quality. Best speakers on the market my opinion. Polk is #1 in components
I installed these into the dash of my Wrangler. The 6.5 installed well. The tweeters took me a few minutes to figure out how to install without cutting the Jeep's tweeter receptacle on the dash. They are being powered by a JL amp putting out 70 watts RMS at 4 ohms and sound great.
Crystal clear sound! Tweeters really put out the sound desired from them.
Very happy with db6501 upgrade. I used these to replace the speakers in the dashboard of my 2016 jeep. Sound quality is vastly improved over the stock speakers. These speakers sound clean! No extra coloring of the sound. The immediate difference in sound comes from the tweeters on top of the dash. The db6501 tweeters give so much clarity to the overall sound, much more than the stock tweeters. The crossovers fit nicely inside the stock speaker boxes. I am currently using these without an amplifier. There's plenty of volume produced by the stock head unit and these speakers with the top on the Jeep.
Pros: Quality of sound, fits nicely in vehicle, great looking, beefy
Cons: none, these are great speakers
Perfect audio and clear
I have had these for about 2-3 weeks now and I like the way they sound. The are little light on the bass response, but they could be due to the location that they are in. The highs are very clear and loud, and the mid bass is pretty good too. I am still working out getting everything adjusted on my amp and head unit. Overall I am happy with the speakers and would recommend them to someone looking to upgrade to a comp speaker and doesn't want to spend a ton of money.
Pros: Clear and loud highs, look good, easy install
Cons: weaker bass response
Bought These component speakers for my wife's Jeep due to the stock speakers only being so-so. These speakers are night and day difference. The only problem was with the instillation of the tweeters in the stock position on the top dash corners. I had to do some modifications to make them fit, but Crutchfield tells you this on their website before you buy. I love how Crutchfield makes you look like a pro by sending you the Master Sheets and Speaker and wiring adapters. Not to mention they have been around since 1974 and have the best service and experienced personnel.
Pros: Great Sound and price.
Cons: Having to fab a place for the tweeters but that is only for the Jeep JK.
I was able to install the 6 1/2s in the sound bar of the jeep. The low pass/high pass are simple to install with enough wire to do everything but the passenger tweeter mounted on the dash. Tweeter sound is clear, with no top I can hear all vocals and podcasts crisply.
Pros: Sound quality and price
great product, sounds excellent in the car. installed in rear would like to get some for the door. best speakers ever bought price was great.
Pros: easy to install
Cons: if they were 5 and 3/4 it would fit better.
My son had a smile ear to ear once I installed the speakers in his Tacoma and he heard what music is supposed to sound like.
After weeks of research on the web and several calls to Online Stores it looked obvious that Polk Audio was "the" choice. I paired up the db 6501 (Front) with the db651 (Soundbar). After install I tested the speakers without the LOC , Amp, and Sub-woofer already sounded fantastic! But I did add LOC + Amp and eventually a Sub-woofer. I listen to Classical Music and powerful Progressive Rock both most demanding benchmark for speakers and I could not be happier. Sound is powerful, Highs are very clear and the sound is warm and natural and the fact they are Marine Grade makes them the absolute best choice for a soft Top Jeep.
Pros: Powerful, rich, clear, warm and natural sound.
Cons: The only complain since so many of us (JK Jeep owners use these I wish the brackets adapters were ready to go without cutting bits of plastics here and there
Polk speakers where a great fit for my Mini Cooper. Love the sound quality. I did need to modify the tweeter mount and drill holes in the door for speakers. No big issues.
Pros: Fit, sound quality
I've had these in my 2010 Toyota Access Cab for over 6 years now, and paired with a JVC AX KS3002 amplifier, I couldn't be more pleased. The JVC amplifier is rated at 65 watts RMS per channel and fits nicely under my front drivers' seat adding a new sonic dimension to the Polk db6501s. I had to fabricate a tweeter mount with minimal effort, and the punch of the added JVC amp gives me plenty of bass and clarity. It's not going to thump like a huge sub, but it's going to make driving a lot more pleasant. I've been a Crutchfield customer since 1977 in the days of Jensen dual cone 6 X 9s and in dash cassette heads; I've always had excellent customer service and if I should need technical service it's only a phone call away. That goes for TV and home audio as well..
Pros: Reliability, excellent frequency response, ability to handle power and ease of installation
These are a good sounding replacement for the stock speakers. Woofer installation was very easy, with just4 holes to drill. The tweeter was a little more difficult. I ended up using a small hole saw to drill out a hole in the original tweeter big enough Rio accept the recessed mounting adapter. The crossover is fairly large and Not the easiest thing Too mount. I ended up using Velcro strips Too mount it on the inside of the door cavity. It would be nice to have this included with the standard mounting equipment.
Pros: Good sound for the price. Flexible mounting.
Cons: Large crossover that could be easier to mount.
Already a big fan of Polk highs and mids. Just love there sound. This was part of an upgrade to my work van for the doors. Let's just say those stopped traffic days on the highway are so much more enjoyable now.
Pros: Everything, granted I'm in a cargo van without any real sound dampening. But these components are just awesome. Mounted the tweeters in the door wind sails. I am super happy with the sound now even though I'm not quite done tweaking the head unit settings. I would have been happy with just these and the new head unit but I also added 6x9 Polks behind the seats for some added punch.
Cons: Ha ha!
exellent sound, impressive!!! super fast shipping from Cruthfield!!!
Pros: Sounds exellent, looks beautiful
I need to begin this review by saying that prior to purchasing these speakers I had a set of Focal Polyglass V2's. However, after selling my truck and purchasing my new XB I realized that I needed more sound to be happy. This time around, I did not have the same budget as I did on my truck so I had to do some research in putting my system together. To save monies I decided to go with these Polk components for the fronts and Polk 651s for the rears. I spent most of my monies on a JL Audio Stealth Box, Kenwood Excelon 393 head unit, and an Alpine PDX V9 5 channel. I can confirm after a couple months with the system that the components put out a very neutral sound. Like some have said on here, the tweeters may be a bit harsh if left on the default setting so you may want to switch it to -3 dbs. The highs are not as bright as my beloved Focal's but they are still clean and clear. The mid-bass does not pound as much as the Focal's, but you can still hear the music the way it was meant to sound. Listening to hip-hop you can hear every drum snare, keyboard sound and lyrics come out clear. Guitars and drums come out clean in rock songs. EDM sounds wonderful, and when cranked up, I feel like I'm at a club. On their own, you won't get much bass, especially if you have a High Pass Filter setup on your amp. You will need to pair these with a sub to get a more rounded sound. Overall, I must say that I got great sound quality for great price.
Pros: + Very neutral and clean + You can hear the music the way it was meant to sound + Great bang for your buck
Cons: - Not as bright or punchy as more expensive speakers - Need to adjust crossover to -3db if you are using an amp - I miss my Focal components, but not as much with these Polks
Awesome sound, clear and loud! Simple install, and with the right head unit you're going to have exactly the best sound you desire!
Cons: None to mention
crisp and loud
Pros: easy to install and loud
Great sound and easy to mount with the included bracket.
Pros: Nice sound, easy hook up.
Cons: rather large crossover. I had to mount it inside the door cavity.
Fast delivery from Crutchfield (as usual). Install was easier than normal because of the included speaker and wiring adapters. If you're driving around with those crummy factory speakers make the upgrade. You won't be disappointed!
Pros: Solid bass, clear midrange and smooth highs. Just what I expect from Polk component speakers.
Cons: None I can think of.
Paired with new Kenwood Excelon DPX592BT and Kicker 43DSC504 DS Series 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers in rear doors these Polk Audio db6501 in front doors and this system rocks! Just added two older Kenwood Excelon 800watts x 1 powerering each Sony 10" subs and wow what sound.
Pros: Easy install in 2004 Forester XT Turbo front door and tweeter fits into old wing post door mount easily
Great price on a pair of great sounding component speakers. Came with installation adapters that were very useful in installation.
Fits in the door panel replacing original Speaker. You will have to fabricate your own mount out of 1/4 and 1/2 inch MDF. No biggie. Tweeter fits fine in the door fin. Great sound and a definate upgrade!
Pros: Sound, ease of installation, Price
Cons: Nothing I can think of. If only they made mounts like the rear.
I researched extensively for speaker options for my 2016 Jeep Wrangler. I finally settled on the Polk db6501's (along with a Clarion XC1410 amp and a Blaupunkt GTb 8200 A subwoofer). They sound great! (You do need a universal backstrap for each tweeter.)
Pros: Sound great Reasonable price Woofer fits great
Cons: Need a backstrap for each tweeter (but very easy to do, just be sure to order them)
Installed in a 2003 Maxima. Was able to use the factory (Bose) speaker brackets, no modifications necessary. The real challenge was getting new speaker wire run through the car panel and into the door. I was able to feed the wire through the wiring grommet in the door and then added a heat shrink sleeve and tucked the wire behind the rubber door seal. Combined these with the Alpine 445U (very compact) amp and hid it in the console. Also added Kicker 40CS54 5.25 coax speakers for the rear doors (also fit the factory brackets with no modifications) and...wow! The combined set up is amazing. I didn't know what great sound was like until I had all of this installed. I also have an 8" Kicker sub and Kicker mono amp (thanks, Crutchfield!). The Polks offer very clear sound from the tweeters, which I have set to 0db at the crossover, and also offer very rich bass. I also can't believe the amount of volume that the little Kickers can handle. Overall, all the speakers complement each other amazingly. I'd dare say this is a perfect speaker/amp combo.
Pros: Very rich bass, clear tweeters, clean sound all the way up to as much as I can handle without blowing my eardrums.
I put these in my '08 Audi A4 and I have to say that with an aftermarket Kenwood Excellon stereo using the internal amp, they sound amazing. The imaging and balance is better than I expected. One note: Initially, they sounded tinny with no low end. They take a little while to break in, in my case it was about 30 hours of listening. After that, they opened up and sound very natural. Crossover was fairly large and difficult to locate in my door panel. I have the DB651 also but these sound so much better.
Pros: Great sound quality. Price. Looked like good build quality.
Cons: Remember that it has a fairly large crossover which must be placed somewhere.
I have been a Polk Audio customer for at least 20 years from home, auto and portable. Always been satisfied. There are better items available, but for a price. Installed the 6 1/2 separates in my 08 taho and 05 saabaru 9-2x. It wasnt night and day difference as expressed by others what it was,,,, a clarity revelation. Both cars have kenwood 2din head units no extra amps. The stock speakers produced more bass at the expense of clarity and frequency. These separates produced highs that aren't cut off and mid bass that opens and breathes. After at least 40 hours of use the speakers became more musical (meaning they sounded less harsh and more instrumental) out of the box a tad disappointing but give some time, even your stock speakers needed time to break in. I could hear detail in both cars I didn't hear with the stockers. These do rob you of low boomy bass but bring you tight mid bass. Unless you somehow have a midbass subwoofer in your door; you will want a sub for the low notes. Even a simple under the seat model for less space robbing. I bought a kenwood KSC-SW11 under the seat for the taco and a Blaupunkt GTb 8200 A for the Saab. Both do the same job the blaupunkt is deeper and less boomy. Both units take up little space and keep the paper in your wallet. Can you find better than these items, absolutely, break out the credit card and spend till you hit the limit. Hope this helps make a decision. Not a 5 star because nothing is perfect for the price.
Pros: Good clarity, very musical, great midbass sound.
Cons: If its a con, need a sub for the lows. Very few door speakers hit low notes that a dedicated amplified speaker would.
Good for the money, but that's it. I have i them connected to a 100w rms per channel pioneer amp. They play loud but get very harsh at the higher volumes. I can't comment on the lows as ib have a sub that takes care of that.
Pros: Good value
Cons: Harsh at higher volume
This is a great set of components for a great price. The woofers actually deliver a decent amount of bass and the tweeters are very loud and clear. I paired it with an alpine power pack in my Jeep Wrangler unlimited and received a quality system.
Can't beat the price and excellent sound (I'm using only a 45watt alpine amp)
Pros: great sound for solid price
Cons: None at this time
I recently upgraded my entire sound system and was recommended to go with this component system. I am very happy I did, the power and clarity from these speaker are nothing short of amazing. They don't get drowned out by the bass and can really hear the mids and highs. Good upgrade from my weaker after market speakers.
Pros: Amazing sound Strong power Quality upgrade
This is the second pair of Polk db's I have purchased from Crutchfield. My first pair for my 2002 Jeep Wrangler and now for my 2016 Jeep Wrangler . I could not be happier with the speakers and with Crutchfield !!! The speakers sound great and were easy to install. The instructions from Crutchfield were awesome and the tech and sales reps couldn't have been more helpful! I highly recommend the speakers and purchasing them from Crutchfield !!
These fit great and sound amazing in our 2014 370Z. I would definitely use these again.
Pros: Great sound
I purchased and had them installed into a 2013 Chevrolet 2500HD Duramax. As a first time owner of components I just knew that that was the way to go. And man am I happy. The mids hit hard with out distortion and the hi's are crystal clear. Still need and want to compare with other amplified components. Totally satisfied with they though :) Just purchased the Polk DXi6501's and looking forward to comparing the two.
Pros: Very good price and outstanding performance.
Cons: Grille looks funny so, just used the factory grill.
Great sound with good clarity
Pros: Easy and good sound
Had these speakers installed in my 2011 Tacoma access cab at the Harrisonburg store while in the area visiting family. Installed with a new JVC KW-R910BT head unit. From purchase to install the whole experience was great. The combined system sounds so much better than the factory radio and speakers. Gave it a good workout on a 6 hour drive back to SC. No complaints.
These are great sounding speakers. They will change the dynamic of your system or they sound awesome as a stand alone component.
Pros: Great sound quality. excellent component speaker. Would work well with any system.
Cons: Non to speak of.
Very satisfied with this product. Gives out the right tone for my ears !
Pros: Sounds quality, price
Cons: No cons
The tweeter fits perfectly, using factory tweeter bracket. Bend down the small piece of metal that holds the original tweeter wire (which you won;t need), to make sure the Polk tweeter can't move towards bottom of the door - fits like a glove. However, the woofer does NOT fit the factory woofer housing. The Polk-supplied speaker brackets do not fix the problem - they line up with the woofer, but not the factory housing. I purchased the majority of my system from Crutchfield, but had these speakers from a prior project. It is a close fit, but not close enough. Not sure if Polk has changed the supplied speaker brackets, but they do not fit.
I installed these speakers 6 years ago in my 2000 Silverado extended cab pickup. These fit into the doors with a little modification. Instead of using all the provided connectors, I decided to solder all the connections for the best possible sound. With a great amp and crossover set, these front speakers provide EXCELLENT clarity, EXCELLENT, crisp highs and mids. I am using foam baffles purchased from Crutchfield and have sealed and taped the plastic sheeting in my door down to alleviate any vibration. After 6 years and 150,000 miles of use, one mid failed and I loved them so much,I purchased another set. ...had to de-solder and re-solder, but very happy!
Pros: Clarity, highs, lows
Cons: One mid failed after 6 years of constant use... if you consider this a con
Great speaker and fit perfect in my 2015 Wrangler.
Crutchfield says that these do not fit a 2004 Mini Cooper, but I took a gamble and got them anyways and figured I would modify them to fit. Turns out these are a perfect fit straight out of the box, lions up to factory screw holes and everything. Just remove the oldd and and score these right in. Crutchfield really needs to change that it says they don't fit, but other than that great product!
Pros: Sound great
Cons: Crutchfield says they will not fit 04 mini but they doCrutchfield response on 9/22/2015 We reviewed our OutfitMyCarT tool, and it actually shows these Polk speakers as a fit in the front door locations using a bracket or some possible re-drilling of the screw holes. They are not shown as a fit for the rear panels, due to the lack of clearance under the factory panels.
Speakers sound great
Pros: Easy to install
Picked up these speakers along with the db651 coaxials on the recommendation of a Crutchfield advisor. The advisor recommended an Alpine MRV-F300 4 channel amp (50W RMS x 4 @ 4O) to power them. I must say that to really sound great, these speakers require a lot more power. If you can't give them the 100 watts they need, you'll be leaving some sound on the table. I ended up bridging my amp to give 150W RMS x 2 @ 4O and the difference in sound quality was huge. I ended up just letting my head unit power the rear speakers because the fronts sound soooo much better with the additional power. One issue that I ran into during my installation is that the crossovers can be sensitive to picking up noise depending on where in the vehicle you place them. I initially had mine in the front kick panels but I noticed that when my headlights came on a faint buzzing could be heard---even when the speaker wires were disconnected from the amp! The crossover was the culprit. I relocated it and the noise is gone.
Pros: Great value, smooth sound.
Cons: Need lots of power to really shine, crossover is sensitive to induced noise.
Clearity is spot on. Exactly what I wanted for my jeep.
I own a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. I found a dealer to install these, even though he doesn't carry the Polk Audio brand. He asked a couple times why I don't want the Rockford Fosgate/Kicker, or other brand speaker (which he sold). He also wanted to sell me a subwoofer. I told him these have better specs. He was unimpressed. I have Polk Audio front and rear matched up with the new high power Sony receiver. When the installation was done, he turned up the volume for a test run. At 100% volume, he began to smile and his eyes got wide. He said "Man, is this clear. It sounds great!" I told him he should start selling Polk Audio and he responded "I probably should." We both agree, I do not need a subwoofer. I can't imagine why people would spend more money to buy lesser speakers? Look at the specifications people. These are amazing speakers with top notch materials and they are marine approved. Good thing with the top off of the Jeep. I had Polk Audio in my last Jeep and will continue to buy Polk Audio as long as they make the best speakers on the market.
Pros: Best frequency response I could find in a 6.5 inch round. Top of the line materials. Excellent power handling. Marine rated, which is great for having the top down. Excellent sound (clarity and quality). Not that I care, but they look great as well.
Cons: Not one.
Good sound at an affordable price
These sound as good as they look And user selectable high and pass filter makes makes the sound more customizable
Speakers are fine. Installed 4 of them - front and back. Installation kit is great - good options for installing the tweeters. Sound is OK for what they are. Not driving with them with a separate amp, so that my limit what I can get. Highs and lows are not stand-out, but reasonably happy with them.
Instantly improved the sound over my stock speakers.
Polk makes some of the best speakers at a reasonable price. These components sound great even on a factory deck. Could use a external amp.
Pros: Great full body sound. Reasonable price. Look great.
Great sounding components at a spectacular price!
Pros: Great price, quality sound, awesome highs
Cons: None so far
The speakers sound great. With everything that came in the box it was a breeze to install.
Fits in an 02 Avalanche not bad
Really nice set up I have them running on a alpine 4 channel 300 watt amp and it rattles the hell out my 97 cummins! Can't wait to get a bigger amp!
Pros: Sound great, staight forward instal, sound good even after rms has been exceeded
Cons: Wires seems to get warm when running 100 rms
Installed Polk DB-6501 components last Oct., 2014 after taking delivery of our 2015 Honda Fit. Coming from the wife's Lexus RX350 equipped with the factory M. Levinson system, I knew my sound requirements would be unhappy with the stock Honda sounds like that of my previous '08 Fit. Wanting to maintain the OEM HU (reverse park camera integrated to HU screen), upgraded the audio components with an Audison processor, a Kenwood 4 channel Excelon amp and a Kenwood powered sub. To get the maximum results, installed sound-deadened (using MLV, CCL, CLD tiles) since the whole interior was taken apart to do wiring simultaneously. It took me two weeks working a couple hours daily. In the end, worth all the effort. With the OEM HU retained, the steering controls including phone controls are maintained. Sound difference however, is astounding!!! Every instrument can be clearly heard as well as distinct separation from L-R + F-R. My only advise would be to use a decent amp to power the Polks to achieve its potential. Using the power from any factory OEM HU would be giving these speakers an injustice. If wanting to upgrade the cheapo factory speakers, your better off to buy more efficiently rated speakers (cheaper-10 to 30 watts). Supplied speaker brackets need a bit of minor modification doable with a Dremel to make them fit the Honda's factory holes. No sheet metal drilling was required. Driving this little eco sub-compact is now extremely pleasureable both city & hwy.
Pros: - easy install - defined highs, mids
Cons: - needs a decent power amp - tweeter is pretty sharp but can be toned down through the crossover
Night and day difference from factory speakers. Install them in the rear doors off my truck. With an alpine amp.
when used in the right application these speakers are as good as any speakers on the planet I have a 1998 Mustang GT Convertible Polk db5251components up front and Polk dB6501components in rear AlpineCDA 148 BT head unit Alpine amplifier PDX F 6 sound ordnance self powered sub system by the Polk speakers you won't be disappointed.I Could Not be happier.
Installed in 2010 Jetta Sportwagen. Sound is Polk quality and is huge difference over stock.
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Tweeters not simple to install. Had to drill in the door panel but looks fantastic.
These are clearly MUCH more efficient than my stock speakers. I bought these due to a combination of price and efficiency. I have the doors deadened and sealed and both the tweeter and woofer are in the door as close to the stock speaker grills as possible. I guess I'm used to the high-end speakers in my other vehicle or maybe it is the, let's be honest, cheap PPI ION amplifier (hey... it's a commuter car, I don't want to dump money into it). They are louder than stock on the same power but they sound almost the same as stock - there really isn't much (if any) improved detail or air. The midbass is tighter and a teeny but more plentiful, but vocals sound a bit unnatural - the word "plastic" comes to mind when I think of how vocals sound. Alas, there are nice things about these. They're shallow and fit in 2006 Kia Spectra doors (after gutting the stock speakers) like a champ. The tweeter was a pain to put in the stock location but I got it in there because I'm the man (and I think the stock location for the tweeter is partially to blame for what I'm missing in this speaker set). I wasn't provided mounting screws, which was annoying, but everyone has some screws at home so no big deal. Overall, was it worth it to install these? Well, sure... the stereo is louder and tighter overall better... just not hugely so.
Pros: Shallow Depth Tweeter is Not Harsh Acceptable Midbass in Deadened Doors
Cons: Tweeter Is Too Mild, Actually Vocals Sound Hollow/Not Natural Sound Out of Phase Sometimes but Aren't
Great product! Clear sounds a vivid vocals! Make sure to use the crossovers because they make a huge difference!
Pros: Great speakers! Highly recommended! Love the Tech support! They are super helpful!
Speakers sound great in my Mazda 6. Speakers do not fit in the front door with the brackets that were provided by Crutchfield. Luckily the installer was able to repurpose stock speakers to install these. Speakers were installed with an amp, there is more than enough power.
Pros: Great Sound
These were recommended by crutch field rep and man am I glad I got them. These are the best sounding speakers I've heard
Pros: Easy to install with crutch fields kits
My son and myself installed these speakers in the front doors of his VW Passat and, wow, huge difference in sound, the car has a factory sunomi head unit which sounded ok, we had planned to get newer head unit later but after hearing these system with these speakers I think we will just wire a control wire to the cd chager input and get another pair of these speakers for the rear doors and a powered sub in the trunk for his hip hop and rap
Pros: good mid bass easy to install great high end sound
Cons: not great for rap without more power
Top of the line sound. Great highs and lows from them. Excellent speaker for the money.
Pros: Unreal sound. Quick install thabks to the wiring harness (thanks Crutchfield).
These speakers are so much better then the cruddy factory speakers. They are very clear are crisp and make even my factory radio sound 100 times better!
Pros: great design, seem to be tough but have clear sound at low and very loud volume
Sound quality is great. I had some issues with one of the tweeters but Crutchfield sent me a replacement and now all is well. I think the crossovers sent are a bit large if you have limited space but work well.
Pros: Sound quality is great!
Cons: tweeters are difficult to install if you don't have a place for them but the hardware makes up for it. One of the tweeters had a rattle and seemed blown right out of the box but it was quickly resolved by Crutchfield! (Great customer service!)
These speaker sound great no amp installed yet. They sound awesome, removed the bose speakers from my GMC Sierra and placed tweeters on the original site on the pillars. I have Alpine 6 1/2 type S in the rear. It took some modification to place there as I had to cut the inside of the bose tweeter cover for the back to be flush but it was well worth the effort for better acoustics. A new head unit is the works (I'm thinking the Kenwood DDX471 HD) and will be pushing them with a 4 channel Alpine I currently own.
Pros: Clear sound. Great quality.
Awesome product. Sound is absolutely amazing
Pros: Install was very easy!
This speakers works perfectly and are easy to mount thanks to crutchfield
Pros: Sound quality is perfect compared with the previous speakers and fit perfectly like oem
Cons: I didn't found any cons yet.
Replaced stock speakers in my 2007 Saturn Aura and WOW!!!! what a huge difference. These speakers sound awesome with my Pioneer HU. My highs are so much clearer and the mid bass is just right and my amp isn't even hooked up yet! I highly recommend these if your looking for a high quality component set of speakers!
Pros: Great clear highs and very clean lows.
Nice upgrade to my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, really sets a good stage once paired with a modest amp.
Pros: Sounds amazing even with the top off in the Jeep
Cons: Needs an outboard amplifier to make them shine.
Very good sound
Pros: Easy speaker installation
Cons: Crossover meeds to be slimmer to installed on the door panels
Amazing sound. And it's affordable
Speakers sound awesome. They were stupid simple to install. Crutchfield wiring schematics also helped especially for inexperienced people.
Pros: Ez install, multi mounting options, good sounding, variable wattages
Cons: None at this time
I just blew my passenger side speaker, and I was bummed, because of the price I paid for these. Then, as I was looking up the warranty info, I remembered that I'd actually blown one of these Polks right after I bought it. I have an amp, bridged to 90w RMS per channel, with the gain set to about nill, and an Alipine HU I purchased here. After reading several reviews here about build quality on the Polks, I realize it's not me; it's them.
Pros: Great bass
Cons: Shrill highs, awful build quality
I found the Polk speakers to be of excellent quality. The speakers were competitively priced. I was unaware of what I was missing from the tweeters until these were installed. The bass is also a noticeable improvement. The 2-way speakers were very easy to install. The component set took a little homework for a novice(my first install). The supplied speaker mounts and wiring harnesses were priceless. However, the Crutchfield team is truly awesome with their support. They were there to help even on the 4th of July.
Pros: Awesome Sound, Excellent Quality/Craftsmanship, CRUTCHFIELD SUPPORT!!!!!!
Cons: Nothing so far.
Great speakers great price
Pros: Sound great
Beautiful, crisp, clean sound.
I bought these speakers for my 2007 NNBS Silverado because I heard the DXI series at a BB. Read the review online and many people rave but say you need to amp them. I have not amped them and let me say that they sound fantastic. Much better detail, accuracy and clarity over the stock Silverado speakers. I did put in Dynamat around the opening and sealed much of the door. But these speakers are so pleasant to listen too. Not over bearing with the tweeter, just a smooth sound. Woofer puts out some great mid bass. Some people feel it lacks, maybe for hip hop..but I think it puts a nice bottom end to most music. If you are on the fence about these speakers, just go with your gut and buy them. You won't regret them at all.
Pros: Great speakers! Cannot imagine getting better sound
Cons: Crossover was a bit tricky to install due to size but I made it work.
I really like these speakers! I didn't find them too bright for the music I listen to (rock, blues, country and some classical). The bass is slightly lacking, but not overly so, in my opinion. I have a Kenwood Excelon head unit with lots of adjust ability but no external amp or subs (for now). The difference between these and stock paper cone speakers is probably why some people thought they are 'too bright'. You will hear so much more of the music that it was lacking before, and it might just come down to tailoring the sound with your preset, or manual equalization of your head unit. If you run these with a stock head unit and don't have much adjustability, by all means step up to an aftermarket unit. I run these in the front of my 99 Tacoma extended cab with the Polk coax 651's in the rear. I love the sound of Allison Krauss through these. I really agonized over the placement of the tweeters, but ended up putting them in the sail panels and really enjoy the sound. If you like more bass heavy music, add a sub, you would with any speaker, Overall, for my listening tastes these were a great choice!
Pros: Huge improvement over stock speakers, exactly what I was looking for.
Cons: Slightly light in the bass, but still pretty good
Great sounding speakers at a really reasonable price. Definitely will not disappoint so you can't make a bad decision with these. Does a great job at separating sound which factory speakers do an aweful job at. Overall great system.
Pros: Amazing treble. Bass kicks well.
I love these 6.5's. Once you supply them the power they want, the are beast! The tweeters on the other hand are killing me! It doesn't matter what volume level, or what gain setting on the amp I use. They are shrill/very bright. It's driving me crazy trying to get these tweets to sound right with the rest of the system. I have the -3 db set on its crossover and that helped but not near enough. Turning the gain on the amp down helps but then you lose the power the 6.5s crave. I'm at loss with these tweets.
Pros: The 6.5's are amazing for this price point when supplied the power they want.
Cons: For my ears...These tweeters suck!! I may just have to replace them.
Purchased these and installed in the front doors of my 2005 Chevy Silverado Extended cab. My factory speakers were horrible!! I have given these a month to break on and get a good idea of how I like them before giving my review. They are awesome super clear highs and Midrange. A little bump more than I expected. Running these with a KTP445U at 45 watts RMS. I'm sure these could handle twice the power!! Finally some good sounding music in my truck. And as always Crutchfield was amazing!
Pros: Easy installation Great sound Marine certified
Cons: Non I've found yet.
Caught these on sale before Christmas. Nice sound for the price.
Great range and fit was very good. Had to get a little creative to mount the tweaters in the factory location.
Great sounding crystal clear audio, upgraded from base due to blown speaker, now need to order another set for the rear and an amp to push them harder one happy customer
Pros: Great sound, easy install
Cons: No Polk audio sticker :-(
I have these in my Subie off of an Alpine 4ch. I just put the same two components in my son's car but bridged the amp so each component is getting 150w instead of 50w. What a difference! I have now ordered a separate amp for my sub so i can bridge my amp for the components.
Pros: Cost, Sound
Cons: Play with the settings on your amp to get the best lows out of the mid
What a difference from factory '07 Ridgeline speakers... arrived on time and installed the woofers in less than an hour, thanks to good directions, wasn't all that impressed at first (I still hadn't installed the tweeters) and after getting a few extra little things to install the tweeters I did a custom door integration rather than fiddle with the dash and door connectors and after powering up and a few minutes of "tuning" with the stock head they sound AMAZING! Mid range in crystal clear and tweeters sing the highs like nothing else! I don't want to get out of the car now!! Looking to order second pair for rear doors and custom mount those tweeters too, they are a little quieter than factory speakers (as expected) but can easily handle a large amp install, bottom line I love these things!
Pros: Absolutely amazing Mid range and Highs, Tweeters have a "modern" look that fits in well, as well as flush or surface mount options
Cons: No real cons, installation was easy, they don't sound "good" they sound beautiful.
Great sound even with factory radio. Would highly recommend!
Pros: Great crisp sound with great base
Cons: Can't think of any.
I paired this 6 speaker system with the Sony MEX-8T3100P CD receiver. (Please see my review for that product for more details.) These speakers work well with the receiver. There is a separate pair of tweeters! The bass is thumpring (if you like that sorta thing.) The balance is great. No bad words for the speakers. I installed the speakers in my 1998 Dodge Durango. An almost 1000% improvement over my old partially working speakers (1 front, 1 back.)
Pros: The speakers sound amazing. I get all 3 levels clearly. The tweeters provide a clear sound and they are mounted on my door. There were no separate tweeters with the factory setup. My installer cut a hole in the door especially more the tweeters. Very glad I made the change. These value speakers work especially well with my receiver. Even with the installation fee, they are still worth the value.
Cons: There are none that I can discuss.
Great sounding speaker and easy install. An all around good component set.
Pros: Good separation of highs and lows. Nice mid-bass response. Easy install.
Cons: none yet.
I used these to replace the factory speakers in my door. Although replacing the existing 1" tweeter was a bit of a project, the main speakers fit like a charm. These were the last of a full Polk Audio upgrade in my vehicle and I am enjoying listening to the full range in my music. This is an outstanding upgrade.
Replaced the front door speakers with the 6501's. Fantastic improvement in clarity and quality. Set the xovers to -3db and with the 651's in the rear doors my car sounds great for the ride to work and back.
this componet set is great would buy them for other autos i own
Pros: easy to install with crutchfields free install kits and master sheets
Installed these 6501's along with a pair of 691's in my 2006 Camry 5+ years ago; mated to an Alpine MRP-F600 amp. Mounted the tweeters in front of the door latch; the imaging is incredible. I love my music LOUD, and these speakers have easily handled everything I've thrown at them. Very impressive!!!
Pros: Great sound!!!
These speakers sound incredible. Couldn't be more happy with these Polks. They sound crisp and clear full range at all decibel levels. I installed them in a 2002 Subaru Forester, they have a manufactured place for the tweeters in the front door moldings. I was questioned the fit of the tweeters until I got the door back together and wal-ah.....perfect fit. I would recommend these speakers to anybody! I would also agree with the previous reviewers, these speakers need more power than a standard deck output and spend the money on some kind of sound dampening material for the doors. I bought a product from Meijers called Scoche (half the cost of dynomat and its the same thing). I matched mine with a 45 watt RMS amp: Kenwood KDC-X996 Alpine KTP-445U
Pros: Sound quality
Cons: They don't make you breakfast
Bought these to replace my old, blown Infinity Kappa Speakers in the front door of my Acura. They handle the power from my amp nicely and sound very good.
Just finished installing 2 pair in my crew cab 2012 GMC Sierra. I kept the factory head unit and added a Pioneer GM-D8604, 100w rms x 4, to power them. All I can saw is WOW! I am beyond satisfied and would not hesitate to recommend them. Do yourself a favor and amp them up. They are rated to handle the power for a reason. I am also very happy with the bass. I will be adding a sub later, but for now I am completely satisfied!
Pros: They rock! They scream for more power and easily take what you give them.
Cons: They really bring out every rattle you didn't know about before.
Purchased these a few years back, they were working fine for about a few months then they decided to develop a crackling/distorted sound from the woofers. Called Crutchfield, gave them the specs of the amp used, headunit etc, nothing out of the ordinary and they sent out a new set. Swapped them out and they were good for the rest of the year. Last year they exhibited the same crackling at soft/loud volume levels. Too late for an exchange from Crutchfield. I'm so put off with the entire purchase, I could not with all honesty recommend these at all. They are currently being powered with a JL Audio XD 700/5. What's ironic is the pair of DB coaxials I have in the rear of my car are working just fine. Something about the DB components fails far too soon. First and last set of Polks for me. If I could give these no stars I would.
Pros: Higher wattage, seemed to be built well enough to give years of trouble free service.
Cons: Crackling sounds, failed crossovers/voicecoil. Poor runtime and fail just after the warranty expires.
These speakers ROCK!!! I initially made the mistake of trying to re-use the factory JBL AMP in my 2006 Tundra. What a major let down. Fortunately, the great staff at Crutchfield corrected the problem and advised a 800w 4 channel amp from MTX. This made all the difference in the world. I am now TOTALLY STOKED!!
I have a set of these in the front and polk 6x9's in the rear of my 00' civic and they sound great! I have a jvc HU and a pioneer (champion series/ class D) 4 channel amp powering these and they are loud and clear. I have no sub and get great bass response all around.
Pros: Loud and clear....no distortion
Worked as expected. Sound is not as good as expected for price, but this is using stock wiring. Will be taking the door off again to run new wires.
Pros: Solid build, good sized magnet
Cons: Higher price vs sound quality. Tweeters have a cheap look, but sound ok
Not too bad, they severely lack in bass though. I do have a sub for that, but it's kinda irritating. The tweeter are way too sharp in my opinion and need to be turned down at the crossover. They do sound clean and great on an amp.
This is my second set I purchased but I haven't installed yet. This set (4 total) are heading into a 2000 TA. The first set I used to replace all 4 door speakers in an 08 Avalanche. I have them hooked up to an old school Lanzar 240s amp with the gain at about 75%. They are crisp and clear until you have the music way up - up at unsustainable listening levels. They handle the power and I had to turn the gain on the crossovers down for the tweeters because they are producing ear piercing highs. Bass is OK, could be better but for what they are - they are good enough. The sub takes care of the boom. No problems with speakers - been in the truck over a year and they get abused every day with the music up during my commute. Don't know how they will hold up as competition speakers but I guess I will find out once they get installed in the TA
Pros: Crisp and clear until way past RMS, handle lots of abuse
Cons: Ear piercing High's if you don't adjust the crossover properly.
I installed these speakers in my show/race car 3 years ago, and they don't get used everyday. The engine is loud, so I did not notice that the tweeters were not working until a few months ago when I had the radio on while I was working on the car. Then I realized that both left and right tweeters were dead. I had some old component tweeters and I hooked them up for the time being. But I was disappointed that they did not last long.
Pros: Sound good
Cons: Tweeters didn't last
These have got to be some of the baddest speakers on the planet.sound is running through Kenwood KDC-X759 Excelon powered with Rockford Fosgate 350S; 87.5 RMS x 2. Sounds like a outdoor concert.Amazing!!!!!!
Pros: Plenty of bass for me.
Cons: Wish I could get the dissatisfied purchasers to sit in my car.
Those speakers are extremely clear ( from midrange to the very high frequencies ) Unfortunately, they have NO bass whatsoever. Note I use the factory head unit in my 2012 Tundra
Pros: great clarity
Cons: zero bass
Great for the money.
I have mixed feelings on these speakers. I have gone through 3 sets. I purchased them a couple of years back to install in my 06 Chrysler 300C. I am powering them with a D450.4 amp. I have 12" subs on 2 of the channels so really wasn't looking for these to produce a lot of bass. I ran them with the gain on the amp almost completely down. One of the woofers quit working and Crutchfield was outstanding. They sent me a replacement set so I could change the whole system or just the speaker that blew. A few months later another speaker blew again and once again Crutchfield was great. I thought they were blowing due to fault of my own. I run my system HARD. This time I adjusted the high pass filter on my amp and headunit to pretty much take out all of the bass going to the components. That worked good for a year and then out of no where, both of my tweeters quit working. What the world???? This happened just outside of my 1 year warranty so I am out of luck. I am going to replace them with 3.5 speakers. As much as I am trying to find fault in myself for running my system so hard, I am having a hard time doing that.
Pros: Good sound, easy installation. Great customer support from Crutchfield.
Cons: Reliability. Every component of the system has broke at one time or another with the exception of the crossovers.
There are a few things people need to realize. I have read reviews where people are not happy because there is little bass out put. These speakers are meant to be used for more of a mid-bass and highs, sound to ACCOMPANY a sub or subs. You wont get power bass out of these since they are not designed to do so. Other people say they sound terrible when run off of their head unit. They NEED to have an amp. Also, it is possible to damage speakers by UNDER powering them, as well as over powering. That all being said, I have two sets of these in my 93 4Runner in all four doors, powerd by an Alpine PDX 4.100 amp. I have run them for over 5 years now and they still sound amazing. Great mid-bass and clear crisp highs. I am also running one Kicker Comp VR 10" sub in a slotted box, powered by an Alpine PDX 1.600. This combination works wonderful for all music types, and is not overkill in any way. It was very reasonably priced for the quality. Sorry if this is a rant or too long, but people need to know things like this before spending money, then being upset or disappointed. These speakers are wonderful. I have been in the car audio business for over 18 years now, and these impressed me.
Pros: Everything is well done and sound great when properly powered.
Replaced some Pioneer component speakers with these in the front doors of a '09 Accord. The Polk speakers cost $90 more, but you really get what you pay for. I'd recommend forking out the extra money if you really value sound quality. These speakers bring out every little nuance/detail from your music. I would not buy these speakers without buying an amp that provides adequate power. They need proper power to do them justice. I am running them through a Sound Ordnance M4100 amp and they sound amazing. Also would recommend installing Dynamat in the front door panels...it creates a great bass response. Before the Dynamat I had no bass.
Pros: Awesome clarity/detail.
The speakers are / were an excellent addition to my stereo, I loved them. However, they didnt last very long, almost 2 years, then the speakers became soundless. First the left side went, then the right side. The speakers were more powerful than my stereo, so I know I didn't blow them out. Time to look for another mfgr for my next set of speakers.
Pros: Excellent sound!!!!
Cons: Cost, durability, warranty
Awesome. I can't wait to put more power to them.
OK, the first set was in my GF's 4Runner. It sounded so good I immediately ordered a set for my Wrangler JK. Actually made a more noticeable, remarkable difference in the Toyota, but that is likely due to the crappier existing speaks. Vocals, guitar, and hand claps in live recordings that I've never heard before!
Pros: value clear highs separation, presence
I have these speakers coupled with an Alpine MRX-F30 amplifier and holy cow can they hit! Extremely clear vocals, bass is very tight and punchy, just what I expected. Now, I truly understand what good bass from a component speaker can sound like. Anyone saying these cannot produce bass does not have enough power to them. They Love power.
Pros: Outstanding speaker for the price, sound as good as speakers costing three times as much!
Not a bad set of components. The bass is completely missing, but the accuracy of mids and highs is much better than the stockers these speakers replace. I am hearing things that I've never heard before in my music. I strayed from my usual Infinity purchases to try these Polks, and while they aren't fantastic enough to do it again, I am not too disappointed.
Pros: SQ accuracy, adjustable crossovers (although I use 0db; -3db cuts too much out and +3db is too harsh)
Cons: Serious lack of bass
Purchased my first pair from Crutchfield and installed them in a 07 Subaru Impreza. They sounded great for a week then started to distort at any/all volume levels. Crutchfield was great in shipping a replacement set out to me, which did the trick. Unfortunately that only lasted for about a year and now they are exhibiting the same distortion and any/all volume levels. Two times is enough for me to look elsewhere. The quality isn't there. Tweeter screens come loose and fall off in extreme heat during the summer.
Pros: Handles higher wattage.
Cons: Prone to failure, distortion, crackling. Tweeter grill's come loose in summer heat and fall off.
Great speakers for the money
Cons: Not the problem with the speaker but I had to fabricate a bracket to be able to install the speakers. The bracket that Crutchfield supplied did not work. I gutted my factory speakers and mounted the bracket that Crutchfield sent to the factory bracket. In the end all worked great.
Have owned these for a couple years and use them every day. They are a great upgrade from factory and give a rich clear sound. When used with a subwoofer at low to moderate volume they have a really balanced sound. After some time and occasions where I cranked them higher than normal listening volume they've began to show some wear. Still sounding great at normal volumes they begin to distort more rapidly than before as higher volumes are reached. Overall great speakers, and definitely cant complain with the price. Don't buy your gear anywhere besides Crutchfield, they give you everything needed to make installation quick n easy.
Pros: Very clear, crisp sounding speakers. Best you can buy for the cost.
Cons: Lacking bass (as far as 6.5" components can go) High volumes had shown "wear" on the speakers.
So I got these and was a little surprised by the wait. They were very light but like mentioned in the other review do not let that fool you they are LOUD. However they are a little on the Scratchy side. I have these in the front and back powered with a Hifonics 4x100 rms channel amp. In the back they sound very crisp and clear and don't have the ear irritating Scratch. Though in the front they do have an annoying high pitch scratchy sound when vocals or really anything is played at high volume. I figured that the reason this was because the tweeter was closer to my ear then on the back. So If you get these make sure u put the tweeter pretty close to the mid.
Pros: pretty solid for the price and really loud.
Cons: could have more bass but whatever I have subs so it takes care of that. Much rather have gotten the DLS Ultimate UP6i but because of the buy one get one half of i went with these.
These speakers were just what my Tahoe needed. They went in the front doors very well. And with one good hole saw they went in the back doors as well. A huge increase in sound quality and imaging. They are run from an Alpine head unit with the Power-Pack added, a must for the price. I highly recommend them, they can handle power as well.
Pros: Great speakers ! The tweeters really sing the high's crystal clear.
I bought these to replace my front factory speakers in my 02 Z71,and let me tell you they sound great and all i"m running for power is a new kenwood cd player thats 50 watts,I cant wait to hear them with a amp.they were kinda hard to put in the crossovers i had to mount under the dash, and the factory tweeters were alot bigger than the polks so I tore the old tweeters apart and used the old mounts to mount the new ones on..took me and 2 other guys 2hrs but well worth the time..great speakers with a great sound make sure you have a amp to push them to get the best sound out of them..I would recomend these to anyone that want a great sounding speaker without breaking the bank..
Pros: sound quality is awesome, price is not a budget killer..
I really enjoy the dynamics of this speaker. My old songs sound new again. It does take some ingenuity to install these properly. But that's what Tech supports is for.
Pros: Looks slick. Great value
Cons: The crossovers are bulky and take some planning out as to where to mount them and how to do the wire runs.
They sound way too harsh. The tweets are annoyingly piercing. The mids aren't clear and almost non-existent. My factory speakers sounded better than these. I'm powering them with a polk audio pa.1100.5 amp. I have the Polk mm6501s in the front and they sound 10x better. They're much warmer, have decent bass coming out of the woofer, and the tweets sound very detailed.
I purchased two sets and I have used them in several configurations. As others have said, they really need some amp power in order to sound good. They also require some experimentation in order to get the best sound. My findings were: - The mid-bass is great if you don't choke it off by sealing them off in a set of speaker baffles, especially the "low profile" ones. (These are marine certified, so you don't have to worry about protecting them from water.) - As another reviewer mentioned, they don't do well reproducing rock electric guitar tone. Definitely better for jazz, classical, and even hip-hop and techno. - The highs can be a little bright, but they are definitely not as harsh as the hard dome tweeters from Infinity. Be prepared to experiment with tweeter placement, aiming, and treble equalization in order to get it just right. (I found that I actually liked them better mounted low, near the woofer, than I did on the sail panels.) Also, I should mention that I put one set of these in a boat, and they are heading into their third summer. Driven only by the head unit, they play loud enough to hear over the (inboard) engine, but they do get distorted at high volumes. Other than the weakness in rock guitar, my only complaint is that the install hardware quality could be better. Probably not an issue for most people, but things do tend to get bent/broken/worn over the course of multiple cycles of installing/uninstalling/moving the components.
Overall very good package. Installed in front doors of 2009 Honda Accord. Using with Fosgate Amp and factory head unit - good bass range from mids, highs are crisp. Worth the money.
I bought these speakers and installed them in the front doors of my 2011 Honda CR-V. I was immediately impressed (maybe even surprised) with the build quality and finish of these inexpensive speakers. They also come with stainless steel hardware, rigid spacers, and speaker wires. Nice touches! Driven by just the factory Honda headunit, the sound quality is noticably improved over the factory speakers. The bass is a little tighter and the treble has more sparkle and detail (have the treble output set a 0db on the xovers). There is also more spaciousness to the sound. However, with the factory headunit, the sound lacked dynamics and impact, especially in the bass. I soon installed and powered them with a JL Audio amp and Audiocontrol LOC. With the sub channel turned off and the bass boost on the LOC turned up, the bass output is unreal...super strong and loud. Again, keep in mind that I dampened and sealed the doors with Dynamat which helps with the bass output. The overall dynamics are also noticably improved by amping them. In short, I highly recommend these speakers. They sound great and are really a great bargain.
THE POLK SPEAKERS ARE AWSOME THE CLEAN SOUND IS UN SURPASSED VERY HAPPY WITH THEM
I have four of these speakers in my 2003 quadcab Dakota. They are powered by a JL audio 500/5. It is a match made in heaven. I think you should leave your crossover at zero. If you have a great amp and headunit they will clean up nicely. Keep in mind that these pups need power to reach the level of quality expected from polk. The tweeters produce very clean and deatiled highs. You will hear things in the music that you have never heard before. The mids are give excellent bass or perfect mid level bass depending on your amp settings. You can't go wrong with these speakers! HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!!!!
These speakers are great. They came with all the hardware needed. Sound great.
I must say that I am really impressed with sound quality of the Polk Audio's I had installed in my Nissan. There is such clarity and sharpness to the sound. It brings out the best in my music. I am considering an amp to power the components. Everyone I've spoken with says that they are power hungry.
excellent speakers. just replaced the front speakers in an 02 4 runner and def need an amp to maximize the power of these speakers. very clear and crisp sounding.
Replaced the front speakers in my '04 GTO with these speakers. Easy swap out, since the factory system had hidden tweeters already in the dash. The instructions provided were precise enough to get it done without a hitch. My factory speakers sounded dull and it was hard to understand speach over the normal road noise. These speakers reproduced the highs that were missing and now not only speach, but the cymbols and other high frequencies in music are now present. Very pleased with this product.
Bought for my '97 Subaru Outback (project car); driving the speakers with Alpine HU w/plug n play amp. I've been pleasantly surprised with the quality of these speakers. Great range and an exceptional value. Installation was quite simple since Subaru already had the tweeters in the sail panel. I put the crossovers in the door w/no problems. For you Subee afficionados, the "universal" mounting bracket for the subwoofer isn't - you'll have to drill new holes to mount the subs. As I pretty much blew my budget (replaced the whole system), I decided to forego the dynamat or equivalent. Big mistake! I've got distortion in the subs with some of the music but, more to the point, the clarity and range of the setup is so good that I want to enjoy the speakers to their fullest by adding sound dampening. I'll be adding dampening material soon. I'd buy again and highly recommend.
can't be beat for the price point. can be a little harsh on the highs though.
Really did`nt like these speakers. Could`nt hear them as well as the rear doors. Not to say that they are not good , I loved the full range for rear doors, just not for me.
Great sounding component speakers! I installed these in the front doors of my 2000 Toyota Tacoma extra cab. I mounted the crossovers in the kick panel and the tweeters are high on the door. The sound quality is great! The highs are crisp and rich and the woofers hit solid. I got the dynamat speaker kit and the woofer sounds tight in a good way! The only complaint I have is that the tweeters seem to get harsh too quickly at higher volume levels. I realize that high volume and distortion do this, but I was hoping the distortion or harsh level would be a little later on the twist of the volume knob. I am running a Bazooka 65w per channel @ 4ohm amp. Perhaps if I had spent out a little more on the amp I may could get what I am after. Enough about the negatives. These are great sounding speakers and I don't think you can go wrong with them. One unique thing that I can report on that may be of help to someone trying to decide on these versus the cheaper Sound Ordinance components is the fact that I got the S/O for the rear of my extra cab. Since the tweeter and woofer proximity from my ears are very similar to the Polks and they are powered from the same Bazooka 4 channel amp, I think I can give a fairly accurate "Apples to Apples" report of the difference in sound quality. My summary - the Polks sound like $200 speakers and the S/0 sound like $100 ones. The Polks are worth the extra money, but the S/0 will not let you down if you are on a budget.
I put these in the front doors of my 2001 Toyota Solara. Well worth the investment as they give clean tight sound.
I have always used Boston Acoustics components in my vehicles in the past, but from the way these Polk db 6501 components perform, I may have to rethink that loyalty. I had to stick to a pretty tight budget this time so I chose these speakers to handle the highs and mids, and I have been pleasantly surprised. The tweeters are very smooth and easy to listen to at a high volume, and the woofers are loud, accurate, and seem to handle a good amount of power without complaint. The included hardware makes installation a snap, and the crossovers are somewhat small and easy to conceal. All in all, I have to say that if you don't have six or seven hundred to drop on your door speakers, these have no ability to disappoint. Oh, before I forget, Chuck the advisor was a big help in my decision making process and the overall experience with Crutchfield was first rate!!
Great Speakers ( SUPER CLEAN SOUND), I know i didn't go wrong i have purchased many after market speakers in the past some very high end and some middle of the road . Some of the high speakers i have purchased I experienced buyers remorce immediately ( Not With these )I'm powering the speakers with one of the Alpine behind the dash power packs it seems to be doing the job very well but i believe I could throw alot more power at these speakers for an even better sound. The Sale That was Going On During The Time Of Purchase Deffinatley Made It easier to make my decision .
Not sure why i wld spend $700 or more on a pair of components. These ar accurate and the price makes them even more attractive. I'd buy them again. Pushed witha tiny Pioneer amp and just upgraded to a MTX JH404 and sounds even better. Love them!
Speakers are exactly what I needed. I did not use the cross over as the connectors on the speakers and all the cables provided would require cutting and sodering new connections. Since the Frontier already had seperate tweeters I tested them using the factory connections and everything works fine I then used the provided connectors to connect the wolfers.
I installed these speakers in the dash of a 2010 Jeep Wrangler with a factory radio. I bypassed the factory crossover and used the one that came with the speakers. I have always been a fan of Polk Audio but I was a little disappointed after turning them on. The tweeters sounded great but the woofers were muddy. I stopped and thought about the structure of the woofers. They are stiff, so I thought I would give them a few days to break in. Several days later and WOW, these things rock. I now hear tones that I was missing with the factory speakers. My next step is to put a little power behind them.
Installed this along with JVC Arsenal Kdahd69 HU and Alpine Type-S SWS-1023D 10" Dual 2-ohm Component Sub 50-300 watts RMS and Sound Ordance Amp M4100-100 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms (135 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms)to fire up the front door speakers and rear on my 2007 G6 and it sounded terrible! Even after a few tweaking by the sound guy, whole unit sounded like a bad transistor radio! And the main sound come from the tweeter! I know I bought an awesome eqpts but WHAT HAPPENED???? I may be a girl but i DO know what a good sound it! Is there a way to make this sound 'awesome' like everyone elses??
After reading the reviews here on the Polks db6501's it appeared they would be just what I was looking for. I made the purchase along with a bunch of other goodies including a Kenwood KVT-614 DVD Receiver. The Polk's were to replace my factory Infinity 6 1/2's. I installed the KVT-614 a week prior to attempting to switch out the speakers. I did it this way on purpose just so I would get a better taste per the speaker sound difference in a comparison. The Infinity's were just a 6 1/2 only speaker being driven off a very small factory amp which delivers only 7-8 watts per each speaker. And as you know the Polk db 6501 package is a complete component setup. I only replaced 1 rear door speaker and set fader to put everything to the rear speakers. I have to admit it was at this point I was disappointed. The Polks did not play as loud at low and mid-range volume. However they did out perform the Factory Infinity at the high end level. I then realized if I wanted to be serious about the sound I was after with the Polk's I would need to by-pass the factory speaker wiring and add a larger amp. I did just that with the amp being a 50 watts per channel alpine. And boyz let me tell ya, the Polks performance now was simply AWESOME! The Polk's come with plenty of replacement speaker wire. Use it, and add a little juice (power) and you'll be blown away as I was!
Why Crutchfield has not placed these in their Signature Series, I have no idea. I bought these to replace the pair of Kenwood KFC-P708 that had blown after only 4 months, expecting them to be equivalent due to similar price tags. I was so wrong. Driven by an Alpine PDX 4.100 amplifier, these speakers produced so much bass, I could no longer discern my JL Audio 10W3v3 subwoofer (driven from an Alpine PDX 1.600) from these. To top it off, they hit clean and tight from the very first thump. Once I installed sound deadener in the doors to rid of new-found rattles, these speakers nearly brought a tear to my eye. Already in love with my Polk Audio Home Theater System, I am now a Polk Car Audio enthusiast for life. These speakers are the reason I am replacing my JL Audio 10W3v3 with a Polk SR104-DVC subwoofer.
Words can't describe the sound of these speakers. They are one of the best I've heard in this price range. They sound better than those costing 4 times the price of these speakers. These are good for any music. Get a good amp and you'll be happy.
I recently purchased these to upgrade my Chevy Colorado's terrible stock system. My plan was to pair these (front) and a pair of db 651 coaxials (back) with a Kenwood Excelon KDC- X794.My plan was to use deck power only and eventually add a sub. Well let me tell you, these things are so awesome I am no longer in such a rush to add the sub. No kidding, and remember I'm only using deck power. What I first noticed upon installing these speakers was incredibly smooth sound. Very silky highs, great definition and superb balance up and down the spectrum. Flat eq was tremendous, but when I engaged the bass boost in the Kenwood I heard more low end than I ever expected out of any 6.5" speaker driven with such relatively little power. I run the db crossovers at neutral tweeter level, added just a little high end in the head unit and bingo: sonic nirvana.I will still move forward with my sub plans, but fear not: these speakers, with a good head unit, are just fantasitc and at a price that cannot be beat. I found myself driving around today just so I could enjoy the sound quality.
