Stellar components

Polk Audio's DB+ Series component speakers are a dynamite value as well as being stellar performers. Their journey to excellence begins with a laser-imaged design that ensures minimal distortion, a smooth response, and incredible sonic detail.

Honed Polk perfection

This DB6502 component speaker system features a 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer cone with a strong rubber surround for solid playback and resilience under the environmental stress that comes with living in your car doors. The separate 3/4" silk dome tweeter delivers smooth highs with precision to give you a vibrant soundstage, and the included external crossover network keeps the highs and lows flowing to the proper drivers for seamless performance.

Handles up to 100 watts RMS

With power handling up to 100 watts RMS, you'll do fine driving this system with an aftermarket receiver, but these speakers will be loving life if you power them with a nice amp.

For custom installation

Polk includes mounting hardware for the tweeters, along with boldly designed grilles for the woofers that'll add a little flare to your vehicle's interior.

Note: Polk includes brackets to fit a 6-3/4" opening.

Easy to install, great sound quality. My stock 2000 Suburban receiver must have the power turned way up on the tweeter output, so the crossovers came in handy. Now my suburban sounds like a concert hall.

Easy to install, great sound quality. My stock 2000 Suburban receiver must have the power turned way up on the tweeter output, so the crossovers came in handy. Now my suburban sounds like a concert hall.

Pros: Fits nicely in stock ports.

Cons: I think the crossovers could be smaller or made into a tweeter mounting base.

Sounds great. Installation was easy. There was just enough wire to have the speaker cables attach under the dash to the crossover. Powering with a Blaupunkt GTA 270 with a factory head unit and Scosche adapter.

Pros: Easy to install, with the caveat I had to trim the sail panel to fit the tweeter. Sounds great. Nice crisp highs that you would expect from Polk.

Cons: None

Great sound! Easy to install and setup. Everything fit my S2000 like stock, didn't require any cutting/modifying of the stock speaker mounts. I am using the built-in amplifier in my Sony headunit to power these but it is still a significant improvement in sound quality over stock!

Pros: Fits like stock, great sound.

Impressive Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers were mounted in my 2010 Jeep Wrangler, and they are a huge improvement over the stock speakers. For the money, these are going to be hard to improve on. The sound is very clean, crisp, and natural. Inspire if the open air environment of the Jeep, which has its acoustic challenges to make a good sound stage, these overcome that and make you almost feel like being at a concert. I would definitely recommend this line of Polk speakers, and is actually my second vehicle to receive the DB model line. My first vehicle has had them installed for over 10 years and more than 200k miles and still sound great.

Pros: Clean, crisp music; nice tight mid bass and clear highs.

Cons: None

Better than OEM...

A definite improvement over stock speakers. Wish they could handle more power though. Bass is distorted about half level on loudness after tuning.

Pros: Cost, great highs.

Cons: Super frustrating install experience on a Jeep JK.

Crutchfield response on November 22, 2016 One of Crutchfield's Tech Support gurus reached out to this customer. The distortion may actually be caused by the amplifier overworking to drive these Polk speakers. We call this clipping. These speakers can handle 100 watts RMS, so added power in the form of an amplifier can help them perform to their potential, increase the volume and bass response, and eliminate any distortion from clipping.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Removed door panel again because I felt there was still a little distortion in the sound from my original install of the db6502. Remounted to the Crutchfield provided speaker bracket, this time using mounting points which placed the screws directly against the surround material as another reviewer mentioned. I do not think this will be a problem, though. I'm sure Polk tested durability of the speaker mounted as designed. At any rate, this removed some unwanted vibration between the speakers and the mount/door, which improved the sound. While the door panel was off, I also added additional sound dampening material directly behind the speaker "inside" the door. I had previously added sound dampening material around the "front" part of the door panel, which would be the interior surface when the door is closed. Now I was placing the sound dampening material against the exterior surface of the door. This reduced road noise further and definitely improved the sound of the speakers! I'm still only using the Chevy stock head unit, so I still start to hear some distortion when I turn up the volume above 50 - 70%, but I'm fairly certain that's just due to lack of power and quality of the head unit. Dynamat or other sound dampening material behind the speaker is definitely recommended! Overall, I'm loving the sound quality of the speakers - tightening the mounting also helped. I'm wondering if it would help to add some sound dampening under the A-pillars for tweeters too...

Pros: Great sound!

Cons: Mounting holes do place screws directly touching speaker surround. But I don't think is a cause of concern.

I took on this project with no prior experience to installing speakers. It took me a while to figure it out but I did and they sound way better than my old speakers. The next thing I'm buying is an amp and a new radio to really bring them out.

Pros: Sound great

Cons: Tricky to install

Overall good initial steps - installation was straight forward. Only time consuming aspect was matching wire colors from speaker to vehicle to receiver so +/- correct. Bass response is only OK. Is not very robust when traveling at highway speeds. I am uncertain if this is my installation or inherent in the speakers themselves. Staging is good and full range frequency response to also good.

Cons: bass response

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The mounting on these were a little tricky only because of the added crossover module and because the tweeters were a different design that the factory ones. But a slight modification to the factory tweeter mounting bracket and a couple zip ties for the crossover and everything worked fine. The sound quality is But initially I thought there was something wrong with them. I just needed to tweak the EQ in the head unit to better match the frequency and output level of the speakers. Once that was set, they sound great!

Pros: Sound quality once outputs were adjusted. Construction overall seemed what I would expect for the price.

Cons: None really. Initially I thought the high frequency output was too loud and overpowering but after some adjustments to the EQ, they sound great.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speakers sound great and provide a plenty of great mid and high-range sound quality. Rating as 2 stars due to a very frustrating install. Crutchfield claims these are a direct fit for my 2004 Subaru WRX....They Are Not! And to make matters more frustrating, the install instructions that Polk provides in the box are near worthless. They tell you to go to their website for install instructions. I head there and there's "no literature available for your speakers." There are 30+ pieces of hardware in the box that you are basically left to figure out how to install yourself. To top it off, I wound up having to drill new holes into my door to mount the speakers because nothing lined up. Bottom line: Great sound quality but really frustrating install experience.

Great sounding upgrade

2007 Chevrolet Silverado (New Body Style
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these speakers as first step in car audio system upgrade of 2007 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab (non-Bose) pickup. Rear speakers in used truck were blown when I bought it, so I removed them. Front stock speakers were very lacking in bass and just didn't sound great. My plan is to eventually install a new head unit, front and rear speakers, then a 5-channel amp and low-profile 10" subwoofer. I purchased the Polk Audio DB6502 based on the Crutchfield adviser's information that this new speaker from Polk is efficient enough to work well and sound good with stock/OEM head units as low as 2W RMS per channel, yet can handle up to 100W RMS per channel when paired with a dedicated amplifier. Installed them, along with acoustic dampening material on the door and they sound phenomenal!!! I'm still only listening to them through the OEM head unit, so probably with 10 - 13W RMS per channel, but they sound clear and crisp. The tweeters have options for 0dB, +3dB, and +6dB settings for "brightness" and I have mine set in the middle at +3dB. I definitely plan to add a pair of the 2-way version of these speakers, the Polk Audio DB652 as my rear speakers. Then as Stage 2, I'll replace the OEM with an aftermarket head unit, possibly a Kenwood Excelon. Hopefully at some point after that I can add a 5-channel amp and a low-profile 10" 4-ohm dual voice coil subwoofer to complete the system. Thanks, Crutchfield for answering dozens of questions on multiple phone calls b4 I ordered!

Pros: Excellent sound, even from low-power OEM head unit. Clean, with good full range of sound. Sound doesn't distort when I turn it up with low-powered OEM head unit.

Cons: Component speaker install more difficult than 2-way speaker install. (Worth it, though!)

Lackluster mounting options

2005 Honda Civic SI
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Polk's improved DB6502's leave much to be desired as does Crutchfield. I chose to update my ruined, Crutchfield purchased DB6501's, due to a failed experience with a Crutchfield advisor's advice. The Crutchfield advisor was advocating selling me brackets to fit my DB6501's in a 2005 Civic Si. Unfortunately I found out that the woofers would in fact come into contact with the door card and destroy the woofer surround. I opted to give Crutchfield one last shot to make things right, I was again let down. My complaints/concerns to Crutchfield have been less than exemplary and at no point did they offer to repair the damaged woofers due to their advocates negligence. I took matters into my own hands and purchased this set only to again be disappointed. These speakers do NOT match up with the plastic adapter plate provided by Crutchfield and equally concerning is the fact that the mounting holes are less than 1/16th between the woofer surround and the screw, leading to premature wear as the woofer exercises while playing, rubbing up on the screw. Taking my time, I could see no foreseeable way to mount these into my vehicle given the clearance between the mounting points and woofer surround. The previous DB6501's had their mounting points further away from the woofer surround. The tweeters were noticeably smaller than the DB6501's and the overall fit, finish and feel just felt cheap which is disappointing. This will be my last purchase of Polk from Crutchfield.

Pros: Price

Cons: Mounting hardware sub-par, mounting holes too close to woofers surround, extra holes in ring of speaker that either need to be plugged up or be prepared to hear excessive noise and air whistling through them. Cheap plastic grille offering little to no protection if surface mounting and not using factory grilles.

Crutch says these will not fit my 4Runner REAR Doors. Yes, they DO FIT, straight-away, no mods, no muss, no fuss, no rattle, no hum. Use the Scosche SAT6 adapter bracket. Tweets went in the front doors like a charm. You will need the 120BKSTRAP or similar. Sound is Awesome.

Pros: They DO fit. They sound great. Very reasonable price.

Cons: Finding a decent mounting location for the cross-over, inside the door, was a bit challenging. Would be true for any similar crossover.

Installing these speakers in the factory dash location in a bit of a pain for the driver side. But nothing to serious for after market speaker replacement. Now with that said. WOW! What great sound and water proof to boot for a jeep that has its top off 9 months out of the year. If you're a jeep owner these are a must buy for the dash.

Pros: Great sound and a great price.

Cons: None

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Woofer Mounting: The woofer baskets have multiple mounting holes and are designed to fit standard 3-hole 6-1/2, Ford's 4-hole 6-1/2, and 6-3/4 applications. (A speaker baffle should be used to seal the inner ring of screw holes in 6-3/4 installations.) The included adapter brackets can be used to fit many specialized factory speaker applications. The brackets are also useful as a spacer in shallow locations; the brackets add 0.232" to the woofers' mounting height and subtract 0.232" from the mounting depth. Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

Tweeter Mounting: The supplied mounting cups allow you to surface or flush mount the tweeters. The tweeters swivel slightly in the flush mount housings, allowing you to adjust them for optimum imaging.

Mounting Height 0.314" 0.884"
Mounting Depth 0.731" screw depth
Cutout Diameter 1.780" N/A

Crossover: The outboard crossovers have screw terminal inputs and outputs (0.3" wide). A jumper inside each crossover allows you to adjust the tweeter output level; choose 0 dB, +3 dB, or +6 dB. There are two screw holes in the base of each crossover for mounting.

Used to have Polk Momo 6.5" components in Nissan Altima in 2001-2002. Fabulous sound, would be similar to Polk MM6501 today. Current system has less power. These components are efficient enough they should sound very good with stock head unit in my 2007 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab (New Body Style). 3 questions already asked

I have the DB6502s in my rear doors (with the tweeters in the front), and a pair of DB 692s in the front. The receiver is a Sony MEX-XB100BT, Class-D, 40wRMS (100wPEAK) x 4. I'm using the receiver's feature that uses the rear speakers kinda like subs to supplement bass from the fronts. It gets loud enough for me, but at 56 I'm not trying to pulsate the doors. At full volume, there is not a trace of distortion unless the bass is turned up to absurd levels. I have little doubt that they would handle 100wRMS as specified, and they would be loud enough for anybody, but some might want more bass and need a separate subwoofer (I once had an Infinity Basslink that was AWESOME, for my musical taste). It all depends on whether your goal is good clean music now and being able to hear when you're 50, or if you want to thump today and say "huh?" all the way through your golden years. You might go to 150wRMS for some additional headroom for bass in the amp, but you'd have to be careful to never turn it up all the way. Remember: When you get distortion, it is most often because the amp is not powerful enough and it is clipping -- NOT because the speakers are distorting. But sure, you can pump the coil straight out of the magnet if you try hard enough. I had first tried some Infinity speakers and was *shockingly* disappointed. These speakers sound VERY good. Highly Recommended. [ Karl  Sep 04, 2016 ]
I'm currently using an Arc Audio KS 300.4, non bridged 90 watts for each channel. [ Edwin  Sep 03, 2016 ]
I would go with an amp that delivers at least 75% of the maximum RMS rating or better. [ Billy Ray  Sep 03, 2016 ]
Thanks for your question. You'll find this information on the product page under "Product Highlights". The system handles up to 100 watts RMS (300 watts peak power). Hope that helps. [ Kenny  Aug 19, 2016 ]  Staff
