Precision woofers showcase your music
The DXi400 speakers feature 4" polymer/mica composite cones that are lightweight and stiff, so they can create a big sound with minimal distortion. Polk analyzes their drivers in motion to ensure that cone movement is even and precise. Polk also uses laser imaging to craft woofer cones that are perfectly balanced to resist distortion-causing resonances.

Silk/polymer dome tweeters broadcast sweet sound
Rest assured, you'll hear every detail of your most enthralling musical moments. Each 3/4" silk/polymer dome tweeter brings out the high-frequency highlights in your music, and a proprietary magnetic liquid cools each tweeter so you'll get clear sound and excellent long-term performance. From an intensely quiet acoustic pluck to the most exhilarating electric solo, it'll be a very entertaining ride.

Great Jeep TJ speakers for the price!

Brian G from Waconia, MN on 10/3/2013

1997 Jeep Wrangler
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers to replace the factory dash speakers in my '97 TJ. They don't have a lot of bass but you don't buy 4" speakers for bass. The clarity is great and there is noticeable separation in the sound now...I would highly recommend these speakers and plan on replacing the the sound bar speakers in the near future with some more Polk speakers. Very satisfied with my purchase and of course Crutchfield sent all the brackets and connectors needed to make this a fast and simple installation!

Pros: Great sound clarity and separation, awesome price!

Cons: none

Used these to replace a set of factory speakers. At the time of purchase I was worried about their ability to produce bass. I thought I would get good high and mid range sound due to their size. I was very pleased when I first turned them on because they put out some good bass. These speakers put out good sound in all ranges.

good little speakers. a lot better than the stock ones

Pros: decent sound, easy install

Cons: the stock jeep speakers had a square cover and the polk's are round. they would not cover where the upholstery was cut out for the old speakers. so i had to use the old speaker covers on the new speakers. too bad especially when they claim these are a replacement for the jeep original speakers.

These little speakers work great! Perfect for the stock locations in my 1990 Toyota truck dash! Installed a Alpine MRP-F300 and a pair of Polk DB651's in the back. System sounds great!

Pros: Big sound for the size.

Cons: None yet

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound very good, especially for the price. The mids and highs are very clean sounding. The treble is not harsh at all, which is something that is a problem for me with a lot of other speakers. Obviously there is no bass because they are only 4". I found I can amplify the mid-bass by putting them in a custom sealed box with polyfill, but it is better to mount them in the dash with larger speakers in the rear for the bass. They sound fine off an aftermarket headunit (have not tried them with a stock headunit) and have plenty of volume. They sound even better with an amp and a crossover to block the bass, especially at high volume levels.

Pros: Excellent mids Highs are not harsh

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I think these speakers have great sound. Awesome mids and amazing highs, match up well with my Bose in the back, they don't have barely any bass, but you don't buy a 4" for bass... That's just dumb. They're not made for a bunch of bass but if you want bass check out the bass link. Anyway it was a simple screw on install and took like 10 min in my 94 geo prizm, I didn't have to take the whole door panel off, just the grill. I don't have an external amp running to them and they still sound good, they would probably sound better with an amp and a good crossover. Got them the day after I ordered, crutch field is pretty awesome.

Pros: Great sound easy install look pretty good.

Cons: No bass but nor really a con considering they're a 4" speaker. I didn't expect any bass I'm just sayin.

Pffft. 4" Speakers ... But wait.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I cant give these four stars, as much as I want to. They are so small. I would highly suggest finding some way to fit a bigger speaker. That being said. I coupled these mosquito bites with my Clarion CX501 and Polk db651s speakers in order to replace the cheap stock Subaru speakers. They are small, so I coupled them with baffles to keep the door panel from leeching so much sound from them. They are a major improvement from stock, but definitely not 6x9's. Thay are cheap, they are quality, they sound quite good. Satisfied with purchase, even though I am sad I didn't try to custom fit 5.25's or 6.5's.

Pros: Cheap, quality, sound good.

Cons: Small speaker, small, small, small.

Great crisp clean speaker. Bass is ok, but A powered subwoofer will fill in. Went to the drive in and it was enough. Can't wait to hear with a sub.

Pros: Perfect fit

Cons: Not a lot of bass, but wouldn't expect it from 4 inch speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A pair of these polks replaced my 22 year old stockers in the dash of my 1991 4runner. They fit almost perfectly and didn't need the wiring harness crutchfield sent along. The screw holes are maybe 1/16th inch too narrow for a perfect fit. I was able to insert the screws at an angle and they tightened up just fine. Using a rat tail or chainsaw blade file to slightly enlarge the slot opening on the speaker will provide the necessary space for a perfect fit. The sound is ok with the stock head unit. Nothing to rave about but then again, nothing to complain about. Just a good solid option for stock replacement speakers. They sound loads better then the dry rotted stockers.

Pros: Inexpensive, almost perfect fit, comparable, if not slightly better sound than the stock speakers.

Cons: None at this price point.

Cons: Nothing contrary here

Exact fit for my front OEM speakers. Original speakers were 25 years old and dry rotted. Needless to say, these are quite an improvement. That said, it's hard to get great sound out of such small speakers. Very good but not great sound. That's not slap at Polk or Crutchfield, just physics.

Pros: exact fit

Needed some speakers to replace the blown ones in my 92 buick regal, and these were the right price and had good reviews. The sound quality is quite good for a 4" speaker, but I think they would sound best with an amp or at least a filter since they don't handle lows very well and I'm not running a sub. overall I'm satisfied with them.

Pros: super clear mids and highs, price, comes with grilles

Cons: obviously bass response is an issue with small speakers.

Highly recommened

Bought these speakers because of my positive experience with Dxi650s; these were to replace the factory speakers in my older Range Rover - these fit exactly, were easy to install (had to change a couple of connectors), and once in place, the improvement in sound quality was immediately noticeable - sound acquired a very nice depth to it

Pros: great sounds for the size

Cons: haven't discover any yet

While other people might complain about these not making too much bass I am not a moron. They do what they are meant to do; make some amazing treble and make some amazing mids. I only have a Pioneer amp powering them right now and I love them.

Pros: Uber easy to install.

Cons: Pretty sure this product is going to be discontinued even though it is so awesome.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just received these Polk Audio speakers and installed them in my 1985 Kawasaki Voyager 1300 motorcycle today to go with a new JVC head unit I also installed. These replaced the OEM 4" speakers that originally came with the bike. These are very high quality, easy to install and most importantly sound awesome! There is no comparision between these and craptastic OEM basic speakers. They even fit (albeit tight) in the original Kawasaki speaker mounting covers so the look of the bike is unchanged. Even without an amp the sound is crisp, loud and they really will make for a better ride! Shipping was free and extremely fast!

Pros: Excellent quality, great price, easy install, awesome sound and free shipping! All the best in one package!

Cons: Had to purchase smaller female wire connectors at a local store in order to install but it was not a big deal. The old OEM speakers had larger male connection tabs than these new ones but it's all good!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these speakers in my Jeep Wrangler to replace the stockies in the dash. Speakers are very crisp and give a really detailed sound quality. I mixed these with a pair of the DXi525 5.25" components in the overhead sound bar. They match great. After I got everything dialed in with the head unit, there's no obvious difference between the two. Just a focused auidio image. I'm not sure how they handle low end on their own, as I have a 8" Bazooka tube for all the low end. But, when I crank everything up there's no distortion and loud enough even with the top and doors off.

Pros: Easy factory replacement with included/added adaptor plates and wiring harnesses. Clarity. Economic value.

Cons: Mounting these speakers to the plate was a little curious. I used the included screws and metal clips. It was a little tricky getting the screws to tighten up but it managed to all tighten up well.

The sound quality and range of these speakers is much better than I expected from their 4" size. The mid-range bass really impresses me. They also work great in combination with the JVC KD-AHD69 head unit, with no amplifier. The quality of the material seems to be really good, and the screen covers look like they'll stand up well.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These 4" speakers are really very musical and, although they run out of breath in the mid-bass range, they really shine in the upper register. Highs aren't brittle and the mid-range to high frequency transition is very smooth. Sibilance is very well controlled and there is no noticeable smearing of the sound stage with the coaxial speaker design. For the price, these are super performers.

Pros: Easy installation with 4x6 inch adapter plates and wiring adapters included by Crutchfield at no additional expense. Nicely packed with sedately styled grilles. Materials and construction are very good. The magnet structures and frames are nicely done.

Cons: In a small car with no room for larger speakers, I had to use what would fit. It's no fault of the speakers, but they are short on output in the mid-bass range and really don't produce any useable output below 100 to 125 hz.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to change out my factory system and speakers on my 97 Jeep Wrangler. Lets face it basically driving around in a tent. Based on the advice of the rep. I went with Kenwood KMM-100u Media Receiver and the Polk Audio DXi 400's and 525. I am writing one review for all three products at once. I did the install by myself (with a couple of call into the tech line to make sure I was not going to far off base. Word of advice get the install kit. It is a wise investment. The overall installation I spent another $30 but that due to the wiring mess I found once I took the receiver out and had to some splicing. No way Crutchfield could have seen that one coming and yippie I have new volt meter, zip ties and a bunch of butt splices. DXI400-30+ mins The front speakers went in now problem the install kit worked perfect. DXi525 - 1 hr + The Roll Bar speakers were a bit a trick due to having to hold the speaker, the grill frame, placing the spacers, screws all while going up and having only two hands. First one was the learning curve and the second one when in pretty quick. All said and done they looked great with the grills on. KMM-100 3+ hours to finish This is just a media receiver. The uninstall of the old system (previous owner had an Alpine) was simple. Getting the new on in took a few hours as I had to make a parts run and splice everything together from scratch. Hooked the battery back up and was good to go.

Pros: Recommendations really worked for the vehicle in question Easy install for one person - Tech support was great to deal with questions I had Instructions were basically spot on The sound difference is remarkable - At 70 mph on the interstate everything is clear and sounds great from music to audio books Looks good in the vehicle

Cons: None on the speakers I see at this point in time.

Excellent for mids and highs. Using in my rear doors for some fill. I'm sending 50 RMS to them with the x-over set at 100 Hz. Can be cranked up with absolutely no distortion. I was very lucky to catch these on sale here on Crutchfield, for less than half the price! They installed easily as a direct replacement for my factory front-door speakers. These speakers sound great, using only my Kenwood KDC-X395 head unit which puts out 22w RMS / /50w Peak, which also includes a crossover. These speakers put out decent mids and nice crisp highs. For those writing negative reviews, saying these are no good for bass, please understand, you're NOT going to get deep bass and lows from a 4" speaker!!! Read the specs and understand them, these speakers are rated at 85-22,000 Hz, meaning you're not going to get 20 Hz unless you get subs. I am very happy with these, they cut through the noise in my truck and the road noise nicely.

Pros: Easy Install, Good Mid-range, Nice Highs

Great sound

Bradley Porter from Marshfield, WI on 3/6/2013

I installed these speakers in a Dewalt work site radio/charger. The sound from these speakers is not over powering in the immediate room, but can be heard very clearly from many rooms away. (We are in the process of building a four story hotel.) I believe these speakers produce 'Bose' quality sound at a very affordable price. The music is heard, but you don't know exactly what room it is coming from. I'm glad I took out the factory speakers, and replaced them with the DXI400's

Pros: Great room filling sound. Weather resistant cones. Sharp grille design.

Cons: None!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They were easy to install and sound a heck of a lot better than the factory speakers. After I put them in I wanted even better sound so I purchased an Alpine radio. It was easy to install in my Wrangler.

Pros: Simple to install.

Cons: none

Jeep Wranglers LOOK NO FURTHER!

1999 Jeep Wrangler
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in a 99 Jeep Wrangler TJ. These in the dash paired with a Pioneer 4400HD receiver and some Polk DXi525 in the roll bar and WOW! No problem hearing anything with the top down and the doors off. Wrangler owners look no further, do this setup and be done for an all around low cost. There aren't really any lows with these but that's not what these are for, if you're looking for hard hitting bass you're looking for a subwoofer anyway and not a speaker.

Pros: easy to install, AMAZING SOUND! MARINE GRADE!

Cons: NONE!

2003 Jeep Wrangler
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I own a 2003 Jeep Wrangler and my sound system replacement all started when my center console subwoofer started rattling and sounding terrible. So after researching a compatible sub that would fit in the original factory stock location with a small amount of modification, I came up with a Kicker 10CVT654 for shallow installs. Then was told the factory radio wouldn't power that sub, which became the perfect opportunity to upgrade my sound system, not really thinking that I would notice much of a difference. WOW, was I wrong! I bought an Alpine receiver CDE126-BT with 2 sets of Polk Audio speakers DXi525 for the roll bar and DXi400 for the dash. Added a small Kicker amp for the subwoofer and added an Alpine power pack KTP-445 to the receiver for extra power. Awesome sound and clarity even with the volume kicked up it sounds loud, crisp and clean! I can really notice a HUGE difference in the quality of sound! Loving it!

2001 Jeep Wrangler
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed these in my 01 Jeep TJ in the dash. The adapter plate was easy to attach and put in the stock dash screwholes easily. The grill and front spacer doesn't fit in the Jeep cos it's too narrow of a location. Great sound tho.

Worth every penny

2006 Jeep Wrangler
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed a pair of these in my Jeep Rubicon. Sounds great eventhough I'm currently still using the factory headunit. Crutchfield provided some speaker plates but I didn't even need them. The Jeep came with a factory 7 speaker system and the dash speakers came in factory enclosures and these PolkDXi400's fit right in. The connectors that Crutchfield provided enabled me to install them in less than 30 minutes.

Product Research

High Efficiency Design: The Polk Audio DXi Series speakers feature a high efficiency design; meaning better sound and more volume using less power.

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Klippel Optimized Components: For a driver to reproduce complex sounds accurately, the cone must move exactly the same distance and manner in both directions. The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Polk optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Composite Cones: Each Polk DXi 400 speaker features a Dynamic Balance, polymer/mica composite cone woofer. These composite cones feature tremendous stiffness-to mass ratio. Lower mass means faster transients and finer detail.

Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the speaker uses rubber surrounds.

Silk Dome Tweeters: Each Polk DXi 400 speaker features a 3/4" silk dome tweeter for clear, accurate highs. The tweeters use a light-weight neodymium magnet for higher efficiency.
