Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sound good, but not incredibly different from factory door speakers of my Shaker500, which as it turns out are 2-way as well with a soft (plastic) dome tweeter. It did give me the opportunity to put some Dynamat on the doors to alleviate some minor rattling from subs. And like another person stated, they were not as loud as factory, but I am running these through my headunit. I would assume an amplifier would really wake them up. Fit incredibly easy and harnesses supplied by Crutchfield made things a snap (no pun intended).

2011 Ford Ranger
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

2011 Ford Ranger XLT I paired 4 of these speakers with the Soundstream VRN 65-HB. Unfortunately I am not happy with these 4 speakers. I purchased these to replace my factory Ford speakers as an upgrade. Well with the new Soundstream unit my factory Ford speakers were a lot louder (highs. Mid.low, ect) and sounded better. Even with only 3 factory speakers hooked up at one point in time the complete sound was much better overall than the polk. Honestly, I don't get it. I may be reinstalling the factory ford speakers.

Pros: Easy install

Cons: Factory Fords speakers are much better. :/

Crutchfield response on 12/21/2016 Chris, we're sorry you're disappointed with your new speakers. Great recommendation for my truck.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A great improvement over the aging factory speakers. I'm getting great sound with the stock (un-amped) power of the stereo head. Even before I installed the new radio, the sound on the old factory original was really improved.

Pros: Mounting holes aligned perfectly on my Ford truck doors, and the adapter wires were great time-savers and worth the $.

Cons: Speakers are packaged with an oval plastic protective ring taped in two spots to the outside of the horn foam, and no instruction to remove it (yes, remove it before mounting your speakers).

Great replacement, OE only good for 4-5 years

2000 Mazda Miata
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Clear midrange from 20W/channel (?) Alpine head unit, no separate amp. Not sure of exact input wattage, but sensitivity is better than stock. Easily heard in the doors of a 2000 Mazda Miata, which is a noisy car. Removing inner door panel was easy with directions, only a #2 Phillips needed. As promised, perfect plug-and-play fit in stock water shield. Possible alternative; stock door has grating for a subwoofer and the door hole is a8" circle. You should offer a component set like that from Clearwater, the wiring would be simple and the crossover unit easy to mount to the side intrusion bar. (I think the optional Bose setup looked like this.)

Pros: Exact fit

Cons: Could have mounted a component set for a bigger woofer and higher tweeter.

The sound from these speakers are excellent when they work. The issue I had was i bought a pair of them and neither worked. I contacted Crutchfield and had another delivered with an aftermarket set of female blade connectors since the Polk male connectors tend to be smaller than normal. Either way the new speakers work great. I gave the speakers a 3 star rating due to the variable quality. The Crutchfield team gets 10 stars for going out of their way to help.

My original speakers finally cracked and the sound was distorted. I ordered the Polk DVi571 speakers and was amazed on the installation instructions provided by Crutchfield. My fears of removing the panels were dissolved. However, the connectors in the package were square and my Ford had rectangular ones. A quick call to the tech support and new connectors were delivered a day early. In a few short hours I installed the speakers with no issues, even the connectors clipped onto the speakers in the correct polarity. The sound is better than the original speakers.

Pros: Ease of installation, superb instructions for even a novice and great technical support. You can't bet the price!

Cons: No issues or problems.

Easy to install with Crutchfield supplied harness adapter. Definite improvement over the factory speakers. Mids and highs are much more pronounced.

Pros: Great sound, reasonable price, easy install and marine certified.

Cons: A little lacking on the low end, but to be expected. It IS a 5x7/6x8 after all. You'll definitely want a sub, etc. for the lows.

Better than stock, but probably need more power

justin from Montana on 1/13/2016

1999 Ford F-150
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these along with a JVC Arsenal KD-R775S in a 1999 Ford F150. The highs and mids are way better than stock. They are very crisp. I have mixed feelings on the bass though. It really depends on the genre and song (with my setup at least). They seemed to distort and get muddy on certain heavy metal songs when the kick drums are going. But they sound pretty good with longer, steady bass from trance/chillout music. I don't run an amp or anything though, so that is probably the main problem (not enough power to run them properly I'm guessing). I don't want to knock them for my simple install though (and I'm still playing with the EQ settings). I bet these would be great with the bass turned down and a sub or powered sub was installed to handle the low end. Overall, I'm satisfied though. They installed with ease. The holes lined up perfectly and I just used the stock speaker screws. They do sound way better than stock for the most part. I guess I was just a bit too optimistic on the bass, but I'll admit it is probably because I don't have an amp to help these out (and you can't expect much bass out of a 6x8 anyhow). I didn't try the stock receiver against them, so no comment there. I think my next step will be a powered sub to help with the lows. You can pretty much deafen yourself with the highs/mids, so no worries there (and it stays crisp even cranked in that range).

Pros: - Easy install - no modifications needed in 1999 F150 - Highs/mids are super crisp and clear - way better than stock - you can hear every note/instrument - Bass probably equals stock or better with just a receiver and no power adders - I highly doubt I could ever blow these with just an aftermarket receiver

Cons: - probably could use an amp or a sub/powered sub to help with the lows - not a huge issue, but I couldn't get the speaker connectors to "snap" into place with the stock wiring harness. The plug was slightly too long (unless I'm doing something wrong, but it looked physically too long). I just bound them up with some electrical tape, so no big deal - still a lot better than splicing wires together.

Good choice for a upgrade from stock speakers tried them first with aftermarket HU. Sound was ok then chose to add a amp Rockford 300 series 50 rms and they really came alive, very happy now. Put them in a 05 mustang with the shaker 500 really helps to have subs for that extra punch, would recommend.

Pros: Good choice for a upgrade from stock speakers, very easy install Crutchfield is a great place to shop for equipment, great service and very good price

Cons: None really, if your looking for that low end punch get a sub and a amp on these makes a huge difference

I could hear the fingering of the guitar strings before the riffs. I'm impressed with the initial quality. I've only just installed them, I'll write more after a few months.

Pros: Great Quality, Very easy installation with Crutchfield's instructions, and great foresight on providing the trim tool and speaker harnesses. I didn't put a single scratch on my interior. Just installed a pair of Polk DXi571s in the back-of-the-seat location of my 2002 Ford Thunderbird. Nice compliment to a newly installed Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS head unit. Installation was fairly straight forward and made much easier with Crutchfield's Ford wiring harness adapter. Huge improvement over the factory speakers. Excellent midrange and highs. Very acceptable bass tones, especially from a rear forward facing speaker system. Very efficient speakers, and a lot of bang for the buck.

Pros: Simple installation into existing factory speaker system mounts. Terrific performance of mid and high range tones, very respectable bass performance. Overall, an excellent replacement for factory stock speakers, without braking the bank.

Cons: Nothing I've seen.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

"Muddy" is the best word to describe the sound of these speakers. Before and after installing an Alpine KTP-445U Head Unit Power Pack these speakers sounded bad. Very disappointed. I've used Polk in numerous home theater applications and once in a truck stereo install. The Polks didn't sound good in the truck and I'm not sure why I thought they would sound any better in my car. Pass up even with a price drop. You can find better speakers in the $40-$50 range.

Pros: None.

Cons: Terrible bass response. Speakers sound dull and muddy. The clips Polk provides to mount the speakers into existing places in your door are worthless. Had to modify to install.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers sound great and are a significant improvement over factory installed. Installation instructions do not tell you the "gasket" is not to be used. The holes in the speakers DO NOT align with all 3 OEM installation holes. You will have to drill your own new one or two depending on your retention desire. For me, 2 lined up, 1 did not. I ended up using 4 holes to secure the speakers since I wanted to ensure there were no rattles.

Pros: Great Sound

Cons: Installation instructions insufficient.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

At this price point ($75) this is an excellent product. Perfect as a modest upgrade for OE speakers. In my Ranger I added sound insulation in the doors to prevent rattles in door when windows were open but that's a truck issue and not a fault of the speakers. I am driving 4 of these with a Blaupunkt Adelaide 130 Media Player and I am very pleased. It could use a sub for more "thump" but I am not needing that myself. Some report this speaker as being too bright but both the kind of music I enjoy and my 60 year old ears are happy with what I have.

Pros: VERY good upgrade from factory equipment and a well made speaker. Polk makes good stuff.

Cons: Could use a sub so that cone could be limited to what it really does very well: midrange. If you need to be thumped in the chest by your tunes either look elsewhere or add a sub

I had heard that the speaker upgrade to the sound system was the easiest place to start. There was nothing wrong with my stock speakers, but I changed out all 4. The sound quality is AMAZING! I listen to most of my music through the IPOD or IPHONE, but even when it is the radio it sounds great. It took about 90 minutes to do all 4 speakers. Well worth the time and the money. 2012 Ford F-150 XLT
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers for a 2012 Ford F-150 XLT Supercrew. They were installed on the front doors. The factory passenger side speaker had stopped working-blown! They went right and no problems getting them installed. They sound better for sure than the Ford factory and I am likely going to replace the rear door speakers in the very near future!

Pros: Easy connection, same size as the factory - no mods needed. Nice sound and nice look.

Cons: not much

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

To be honest, I did not like them at all to begin with as they were quieter and less bass than the stock unit. Figured out that the baffle was killing them, I was not aware that the baffle needed to be cut out. After reading some posts about them, I ended up removing the baffle and now they sound much, much better. Was hoping for a bit more bass, but great clarity, so overall, happy with them now.

Pros: Very good clarity.

Cons: Could have a little better bass.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound way better than stock but they crack and distort a bit. I like it loud in my car and so far to keep the speakers from cracking I haven't been able to put them as loud as I'd like and I have to keep the bass at zero along with mid's and tremble. I have these in the rear of my mustang.

Pros: Better than stock

Cons: Crack and distort with any bass at all

Great Sound Mid Level Speaker

B from South Florida on 8/31/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound for what I would consider a mid level speaker. Covers a wider range of sound than most speakers in the same price range. I bought 4 for all the doors and as of now have them hooked to a factory head unit and its already a noticeable step up. As soon as I get a new head unit I know they will be even more refined.

Pros: Price, wide range of sound. Easy to install in factory openings.

Cons: If you are looking for a high end speaker look at a different model but this is more than suitable for a mid level Or factory upgrade.

These speakers hit well on the bassline and are decently priced. i would recommend these to someone who wants a nice pair for a decent price. Although the tweeters are not the best.

Pros: Bass sounds great Decently Priced

Cons: Tweeters could use some upgrading

1999 Ford Expedition
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased these for a 1999 Ford Expedition. The fit was perfect front and rear. They have a decent amount of bass for their size. Unfortunately, the tweeters on these speakers are awful. My adviser did tell me they were bright, but that is not the appropriate description for these. They are extremely harsh and gave both my wife and myself headaches after listening to them. My ears physically hurt after just 10-15 minutes at a moderate volume. I strongly do not recommend these speakers unless you enjoy an extremely bright, irritating tweeter.

Pros: Perfect fit. Decent bass.

Cons: The harshest tweeters I have ever experienced.

Product Research

High Efficiency Design: The Polk Audio DXi Series speakers feature a high efficiency design; meaning better sound and more volume using less power.

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Klippel Optimized Components: For a driver to reproduce complex sounds accurately, the cone must move exactly the same distance and manner in both directions. The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Polk optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Composite Cones: Each speaker features a Dynamic Balance, Bi-Laminate composite, polypropylene cone woofer. These composite cones feature tremendous stiffness-to mass ratio, resulting in faster transients and finer detail.

Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the speaker uses rubber surrounds.

Aluminum Dome Tweeters: Each speaker features a 3/4" aluminum dome tweeter for clear, accurate highs.
