Precision woofers showcase your music
Polk's DXi6500 component speaker system features 6-1/2" woofers with polymer/mica composite cones that are lightweight and stiff, so they can create a big sound with minimal distortion. Polk analyzes their drivers in motion to ensure that cone movement is even and precise. Polk also uses laser imaging to craft woofer cones that are perfectly balanced to resist distortion-causing resonances.

Silk/polymer dome tweeters broadcast sweet sound
Rest assured, you'll hear every detail of your most enthralling musical moments. Each 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter brings out the high-frequency highlights in your music, and a proprietary magnetic liquid cools the tweeters so you'll get clear sound and excellent long-term performance. You can set your own stage — surface- or flush-mount the tweeters with the included swivel-mount cups, and aim the tweeters towards your ears so you can really enjoy the show.

External crossovers for stand-out detail
Polk includes high-quality crossover networks that create a smooth transition between woofer and tweeter, so you'll hear accurate, balanced performance from this system. From an intensely quiet acoustic pluck to the most exhilarating electric solo, it'll be a very entertaining ride.

Improvement over stock speakers my kid was amazed at the difference these speakers made in the overall sound of her head unit. These speakers were not listed to fit the front doors of her suzuki reno, but after a chat with advisor CJ I was told there shouldn't be a problem. No problem at all, tweets fit and woofers bolted right in. Thanx again Crutchfield for making it easy on a dad with a budget. Problem now is I have to purchase the rear doors hope I can find as good of deal on them, I'll be looking.

Pros: Perfect fit sound great

Cons: Made in China.

Great set of component speakers

2004 Saturn ION 2
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Absolutely great set of components, especially with the sale price I managed to pick them up at. Sound is very well rounded from bass all the through typically harsh symbol crashes. The tweeters are a bit bright out of the box, but they settle in nicely and the adjustable crossover definitely helps with that. The crossovers and be a bit difficult to mount, that is a given with any component system.

Pros: Smooth, excellent sound over the entire music spectrum.

Cons: Mounting options for crossovers

Better sound in JK Unlimited

2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these speakers and was told by people on the Jeep Wrangler JK forums that they were going to suck becuase the head unit in the Wrangler was this that or the other thing. told is that these speakers kick some serious butt with the factory head unit. I fabricated a small bracket to put the tweeter in the location of the factory unit, and the woofer in the stock position. I matched it with the Polk 651s in the sound bar. What a difference.

Pros: much better sound

Cons: hard to find a good spot to mount the crossover...this is a car issue

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Woke up the factory system completely.Installed in the rear doors of my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I can't believe the improvement it has made. I used to have to fade all the way to the rear to hear the back speakers, now it is set in the center position because of the clarity of the Polks. Great choice.

Pros: Sound great.Fits in factory recesses with the included adapters.Cleans up the muddiness of the factory system.

Cons: Finding a place to hide the crossovers.

2013 Toyota Tacoma
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like these speakers, but they need more power than the factory stereo provides. I don't usually listen to the stereo too loud anyway so these work fine for me. If you need loud volume, you definitely want to run these off an amp. They are still 100 times better than the stock speakers. And you can't beat the price. The installation was relatively easy, but required some minor customization for the tweeter.

Pros: Clean, smooth sound. Good build quality.

Cons: Begging for more power for good volume.

The speakers sound great as rear door replacements in my '01 Tahoe. Only issue is that there are no vehicle specific instructions included or available from crutchfield. Tweeter/crossover placement took a while to set up (door panel clearance, etc..)

Cons: No vehicle specific installation instructions

I bought these for the front speakers and I bought the Polk Audio DXi650 for my rear speakers for my 2008 Chev Avalanche. I installed these to go along with my newly installed Kenwood DPX500BT. This system sounds AWESOME! The bass is very rich and powerful. The highs are super crisp. Very easy to install. Crutchfield sent me everything I needed for a easy install. Cudos to Jenny, my sales advisor, she was awesome walking me through my purchase....

Pros: Great sounding speakers. The bass is powerful and the highs are super crisp.

Cons: NONE!

These speakers sound awesome and I'm only running them off of my kenwood stereo. 100x better than factory speakers in my 2013 Jeep Wrangler. Love the different mounting options for the tweeters, fit perfectly.

Pros: Sound crisp, clear, and loud!

Cons: None

Better than my old Boston Acoustics !!!!!

Mando from Houston, Texas on 7/6/2013

I used these to replace my Boston Acoustics SR60's in my 2011 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab PU. These sound so much better ! One of the BA woofers blew and BA wanted almost $100 for a replacement. I'm so glad I bought these instead. They sound so much better all the way around. As others have noted, the tweeter can be a little harsh if not set correctly. Because of the location of the tweeters in my Tacoma I had to set the tweeters to -3 db on the crossover and it rocks ! Unlike others, I found them to produce a nice tight mid bass. I'm pushing these with a JL Audio XD500/3 along with a JL Audio 8W3V3-4 subwoofer in a custom box designed to fit in place of the rear center console. This combination rocks my Tacoma with hard pounding bass, nice tight mid bass and clean smooth highs - absolutely NO DISTORTION, even at volumes that are typically too loud for most of my passengers. I'm more impressed with these than my old Boston Acoustics. I'm glad one of the SR60 woofers blew, I'm so much happier with these ! I'm only running one set of these in the front door panels and the sub in the rear - hence the 3 channel JL Audio Power Amp. This combination does an excellent job for any type of music - from Jazz, rock to bass thumping rap.

Pros: Easy install, adjustable tweeter setting, nice tight bass response with smooth clean highs.

Cons: None !

Excellent Sound; Good Bass;

2010 Hyundai Santa Fe
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am quite pleased with these speakers, especially since I could not audition them anywhere. I hate you cannot find speakers you want to buy and listen to them first. So these should not disappoint most people. These speakers provider good, clear sound. The highs can be a little bright but they can be dampened with the crossover or your head unit. Yes, these do not have pounding bass. Anyone expecting bass for rap music or other heavy bass music need to go out and buy a sub-woofer. Anyone expecting great bass out of a coaxial speaker or component system like this just do not understand speakers or sound. Good solid bass for most people. If you want to vibrate the hell out of your car and you, buy a sub-woofer and provide it with some serious wattage. For 95% of the folks upgrading their OEM speakers, these will be a big improvement. Installation went smoothly. Instructions from Crutchfield are far better than what comes with the Polk speakers. I would suggest taking off your door panel before ordering to be sure the crossover has a place to fit. I was lucky and found the one spot on the door where it will work on a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe. Plenty of wire was provided and the speaker covers are fairly normal; not very outrageous. Good for the older and conservative folks. The bass is solid; just don't expect any thumpin'.

These speakers replaced a pair of blown Boston Acoustic speakers in the rear deck of my car. Powered by a JL Audio 300/4 v2, they are bright and very clean. These were purchased at Crutchfield, and for the price they are probably the best bang for the buck.

Pros: Bright, clean sound.

Poor sound quality

Jerome from APO Okinawa, Japan on 5/19/2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've installed and had several types of component speaker systems and the sound quality of these speakers were disappointing. I'm running them off a Kenwood Excellion 600 watt Amp, and Kenwood 719 DVD head unit. With both of these components and the numerous sound settings, these speakers should have been rocking. In my opinion, I could have gotten better sound from none comments speakers. Besides the sound quality, they were easy to install with everything that came in the box; I didn't need to use the speaker brackets or make any modifications. They fit perfectly in the 6 1/2" openings where my old speakers were.

Pros: Install was very easy.

Cons: I was not impress with the sound quality. Tweeters didn't come with an upright facing mount, therefore, the maximum adjustment angle is roughly 20%. I could have gotten better sound quality for less.

I use these speakers in my competition car along with the composite 6x9s in the rear at 110 rms for all of them and they still work great even being pushed past their supposed limit. Crystal clear with an excellent note range dynamatted all the way around. This is in a 1996 Honda Civic Hatchback However, I have them in my 2003 Dodge Durango as well for just daily driving at 60rms each, and they still amaze me even with no special prepping done. I've been through a lot of speakers, but none of this value yet.

Pros: Excellent Value, clear and wide range of sound

Cons: Aftermarket Grills are too large for most applications.

Awesome sound / so-so instructions

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First let me say that these speakers sound incredible and are a world of improvement over the stock speakers in my Jeep. The highs are a little bright so I set the crossover switch to -3db to help even out the sound. The install was a definite pain. The instructions for the most part were correct, but I wonder if they were updated to include other years than the one shown on the first page. The passenger side installation went without any problems, but the drivers side was a nightmare. No matter how I tried I couldn't get the factory speaker enclosure out of the dash, so I had to remove/install the speaker while reaching up inside the dash. Splicing the wires went ok until you need to tie into the factory feed from the radio, there was nothing in the instructions about which wire was positive/negative (one was gray/yellow, one was gray/purple). Kudos to Crutchfield support who knew the answer (they might want to add the answer to the instructions). Even though I had some difficulty with the install, it was well worth it.

Pros: Great sound, Crutchfield support

Cons: Incomplete installation instructions

Great sound and easy to install. I had to modify the factory tweeter a little (gut it) to mount the new one. The brackets for the mid fit perfectly. I hide the crossover behind the mids in the door. I am pushing them with just a Clarion head unit. I could probably use an amp but they sound pretty danm good without. Much, much, much better than the stock paper crap they call speakers. The lows are good but if you want great sound everyone needs a sub.

Pros: Great sound without amp

Cons: None

Nice speakers, sound good. But they have too much brilliance. Best to put the switch on the crossover to -6db or the highs just take over everything.

Pros: Adapter rings a BIG plus, was able to fit it to the VW's front door 8" opening with help from a spacer I got from Amazon.

Cons: Too much high, but hoping once I rip the door panels off and adjust the switch, they will sound better

Pros: Easy install and all around great sound experience.

Cons: None to date.

Steve from pa on 4/3/2013

I don't normally review products of any kind, but I am for these because I think they are exceptional speakers, especially for the money. I'm not sure what the reviewers who stated these have little or no bass response are powering them with (likely a weak factory or aftermarket deck), but I have no problem at all with the bass response of these speakers. I am powering them with an old school Hifonics Thor series viii (125 x 2 rms), and have them crossed over at 80 hz, with a 12 db/octave slope, and get plenty of bass and no distortion, even at high volume and with driving them with slightly more power than their rms power rating of 100 watts. I can cross them at 60 hz and get slightly more bass, but at high volumes I do get some slight distortion so I opt for 80 hz. I hope this review is useful to someone. I almost didn't buy these speakers due to the reviews of no bass response, but used properly, this is just not true. I suspect some people are either under powering these speakers or expecting them to perform like a subwoofer, or both.

Pros: sound quality, power handling, price

Cons: none

The speakers hit a lot harder than expected and I am overall satisfied with this purchase. Installation was a breeze into my 2001 Nissan Sentra Rear deck. Overall I have replaced all of the car speakers with DXI series speakers while spending under $300 these speakers sound better than my friends $1500 Kicker sound system. I would defiantly recommend this speaker for someone that likes basey music or just likes loud clear music.

Pros: Bass, Quality, Ease of installation

Cons: A little distorted at high volumes due to too much power from head unit

after tried this components speakers in the front and rear the Polk Audio DXi 650s i would say the sound really good, im not an expert but im really picky, high is so clear and perfect, but when u turn it up is a lit distortion, the receiver im using is Alpine CDE-135BT, the sound loud and good quality compared with the stock speakers, i just installed them in my accord 2010 sedan LX, u can see the difference, overall, amazing quality, but bass from 1-10 i would say 1 or 2, not kidding, i had to buy right away a KICKER TS10L3 SINGLE 10" , because u can see there is missing something, i decided to give a tried 2 this POLK based on the good reviews, and im happy i wasn't wrong, ill recommend this to someone looking for an upgrade in ur audio system, but if are looking for BASS, this is not for u, or if u are willing to add an AMP and SUB go for it, but i know not every body does that, Alright thats it thank u for reading guys

No Bass Whatsoever

GrantG from west palm beach, FL on 3/13/2013

These speakers sound great and are extremely clear, but have no bass in them at all. I wasn't looking for them to sound like 2 12's but I was hoping for a little bit more punch to them. If you want a full range of sound, you'll need a subwoofer to fill them in. They really shine in the upper mids and highs, but don't make anything even in some of the lower mids.

Pros: Very clear, little distortion at high volumes

Cons: weak low end

I was looking at much more expensive speakers but am glad that I went with these. My volume level has increased and i can turn the volume up to a point where it is unbearable to listen to without any distortion at all. The install was very easy and the fit and finish is excellent. These speakers are just amazing, The tweeters can be a little harsh at times but all you need to do is adjust the eq. The bass is very good for a component system at this price. Originally had a Kenwood component set the sucked, so I returned them and got these and Wow. What a difference. Im using them with no amp and the original stock radio and they are still really great. Cant wait to upgrade the head unit and add an amp cause it can only get better from here!

Great sounding Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these for my 2005 Tacoma to upgrade my speakers. The speakers have a great sound, and work good off of my Pioneer DVD unit. Installation takes a little while. The only thing Crutchfield missed in my installation items was metal brackets to mount the tweaters on. If these go into a factory tweeter spot behind a door panel, make sure to ask for the metal brackets. They look like metal pipe hangers. long thin sheet metal with holes in it. Also, make sure to buy extra wire like I did, so you don't have to mount the Crossovers in the door. Water could get to them, and then you are buying new speakers. My next step is to buy an amp to see how these sound with a little more power behind them.

Pros: great sounding

Cons: Crutchfield missed the bracket for mounting the tweeter, but improvised. Installation takes a while, but I knew that going in.

I had Pioneer 2 way 6-1/2" speakers in both doors and the sound was very harsh to the point where I couldn't listen to my system. I have always loved POLK speakers and am happy that they are made in the USA as well. I have many POLK speakers at home so I thought it was worth trying their car speakers. The guy at POLK recommended going with a component set up this time which makes a lot of sense. I put the POLK's in and the difference was night and day. The harshness is gone and the sound is real! Thank you POLK.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great moderately priced set of components. I installed these in the rear doors of my 2003 KIA Sorento & I'm very happy with the sound. I custom installed the tweeters in the pillars between the front & rear doors & these Polks sound great. I'm feeding them 60w RMS from a Kenwood KAC-8405. These speakers are a big upgrade from any stock set up but you should definitely power them with an amp to bring out their full potential. I can turn my HU volume up to max without distortion. I have a Kenwood Excelon x994 HU that has some very good e.q. & time alignment adjustments so I can really fine tune my system. The highs & mids are excellent & the tweeters are not too harsh or bright. The bass response is moderate but that is to be expected, get a sub woofer to fill in the lows. I have Polk DB 6501's in the front doors & an MTX JH4510-2XD enclosed sub woofer powered by a Kenwood KAC 8105D amp to round out my system. I couldn't be more pleased with the overall balance of my system. I've now completed a 2 year gradual component by component replacement of my factory sound system. Buy these Polks and you won't be disappointed!!

Pros: Good components that can handle lots of power. Tweeters not as bright or harsh as others in this range. CRUTCHFIELD technical support & customer service.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed my new speakers this past weekend. They replaced the stock ones. This is on a 2012 Toyota Tacoma AccessCab. They were a well needed improvment. They have great sound but I need to upgrade the stock stereo to feed them more power. With the stock stereo the speakers start to distort at higher volume. I had to call tech support on the wiring harness. The stock speakers had a seperate tweeter and mid range. When I asked tech support on what wires feed the cross over I was told to just use the wires that went to the stock mid range. I found on my own that the wire going to the tweeter has to have the jumper left connected to feed the new speakers.

Pros: Very good sound. Fairly ez to hook up.

Cons: none

The woofers needed some break in time to show their nice bass potential which is normal. The tweeters are just great. Had to do some modification with the old tweeter mount with the Dremel tool but the new tweeters flush fit in nicely. Did not need the adapter brackets for the woofers and mounted them directly to the steel door frame, however, this left a space between the door and the inside panel. Glued some foam strips on the inside panel around the opening to fill this in a bit. Sound improvement is great even with the stock radio

Pros: Nice sound and the tweeter is very crisp. Good imaging as external crossover makes a huge difference in lieu of just a capacitor in line. Crossover small enough to be secured inside the door.

Cons: The adapter bracket could not be easily secured to the steel door of the truck but really didn't need it.

Still on the fence

2012 Subaru Impreza WRX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these speakers along with a new JVC head unit into my 2012 Subaru WRX. It seemed I was in for a treat when I got the speakers connected up on the first side and momentarily ran power to them before putting the door back together. However, after reassembling everything and listening to some of my favorite music I can only say that they are at least good enough, that they have grown on me as I've put a few hours of music through them, and overall I'm happy with the purchase. I also slapped Dynamat on both doors, and this certainly helped with enhancing the music. And double checked polarity settings on the crossovers, so no issues there. If you have any audiophile inclinations I would recommend a higher grade of speakers, such as the MM5251s. After all, if you can afford a few extra hundred, you're going to be living with your choice for a while, so you may as well pony up for something really remarkable if you can.

Pros: Good to excellent sound quality, especially for the price. Great at playing "Unchained" album by Johnny Cash.

Cons: Close to remarkable. Loud and clear yes, maybe not quite as stunningly and awesomely gratifying as a higher grade of speaker might be.

Just pure awesome

2004 Jeep Liberty
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers to go with a kenwood KDC X494 deck and a JL w6 sub. The deck and sub have been installed for about 2 years now and I was wanting more of the high end notes. I wanted something that was easy to install and could add a amp later if I wanted. I spent a few hours putting the speakers in. None of the brackets for the tweeters really fit my complex venting area (04 jeep liberty) so I just took my old tweeter, cut out the cone and magnet, and just put the new one in with the bracket. Firing the system up I had my volume on 1/3 of the way and I could already tell a difference. Up to a decent volume the highs were absolutely incredible. They cymbals were ridiculously clear, sounding like I was the drummer. Female voices sound especially good. I can even hear the singer take a breath. It is just incredible. I am very happy. I will probably not put an amp to this guys because my deck provides enough power for me and they are plenty loud. I ran into some wiring questions and instead of blindly finding my way around the internet I called the product support service number and within 15 sec I was talking to a very knowledgeable service rep who was more than happy to answer my questions. He also gave me some tips about mounting and some better ways to run wires.

Pros: Incredibly clear, very loud, quality speaker, GREAT customer support.

Cons: None

Clean and Clear

Anonymous from Levittown, PA on 7/11/2012

I just installed these in my H3 to replace some coaxial Boston Acoustics. The Bostons were clean sounding, but I needed some tweets cause i blew the stock. These components were easy to install. I have them set up with a Pioneer 4200 and a Pioneer GM-D9500F amp. The woofers are punchy and the tweets are very clean. I have the crossover set at 0db. I still have the Bostons in the rear, I feel t hat the sound is a lot richer. I cant wait to hear them after they break in.

Pros: Very Powerful and clean

Cons: None so far.

Overall a pretty good speaker. Leaves you wanting a little more on the low end. The product is good, but the installation guidelines for a Jeep Rubicon Unlimited are worthless. These are component speakers and the guide offers no guidance on the tweeters and crossovers.

Pros: Good speaker

Cons: Bad installation guide.

Enjoy the upgraded sound

Sound great, especially the highs. The lows have improved also. I used the frames from the original tweeters to make the brackets for the new ones and that worked great!!

Pros: Clearly an upgrade in the quality of the music I listen to!! Reasonably easy to install.

Cons: None to speak of.

Installed these last night in the rear of my 2006 350Z (coupe). Getting into the back of the car was the hard part, but well worth the effort. They sound great.

Pros: Good price, great sound.

Cons: I broke a drill bit during installation? Nothing to complain about, they sound great.

Kevin (my adviser) steered me to these. I did a factory up grade to my '08 Tundra. New H.U. and Polk DXi's in the doors 6500's front and 5250's rear. As soon as we hooked up the first speaker to check for polarity I knew i was in for a treat. I matched these with a matching RMS/CH amp and I'm running it around 70%. I have so much headroom it's not even funny as they break in I'll up the wattage but as of 2 weeks in I'm in music heaven.

Pros: Everything

Cons: If I find one I'll come back and note it.

Clear and Loud !!

Pros: easy install, adjustability

Cons: none

I used these speakers to replace my JBL C608GTi component speaker system that I had in my car when one of the component subs blew, they were rated for 150RMS and even though there really is nothing that I could find to match them, these speakers are rated for 100RMS which have turned out excellent. They hit produce great sound and quality and do not distort, you get what you pay for, and for a little extra cash, they are worth it. Nice and easy setup.

2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers have been in my 2011 Jeep Wrangler for about two months. They have been broken in and now sound amazing. I've got them fed from a 50 rms watt per channel amp with the crossover set to about 100hz, sending everything lower to my sub. Installation was fairly straight forward. As noted, my Jeep's stock tweeter mounts needed to be filed to make the hole bigger, they look like they have always been there and much better than stock. There is no going back to stock which is fine in my situation but something to think about if you are leasing. I installed foam baffles behind the woofers. About the sound. I had originally set the tweeters to +3 (or +6 I forget which) but brought them back down to 0db once I fine tuned the crossover points. At the +db setting they had a bit of a sizzle but sound silky smooth at 0db. The woofer has nice punch and is very accurate listening to everything from talk, classical and mellow rock (Jack Johnson, Mishka), all the way to hard metal (Hatebreed, Machine Head, etc). I am very pleased with this component system and would recommend them to anyone.

amazing for the price

Picked up a set of these dxi 6500s for my 95 civic project. hooked them up on the stock honda head unit and WOW, even on such a low watt source they still get really loud and clear. I had to cut the holes for the tweets in my pillars, and i put a little dynamat around the woofer. amazing sound, great price, sexy look. Deff will be putting an amp on these very soon to bring out the max potential.

I have these amplified by an Alpine MRP-F300. The tweeters are excellent, but the 6.5" don't have hold the amplified bass as well. I probably need to install dynamat around the speakers to help them out. Great speakers though!

This component set is breathtaking. The mids and highs are unreal. Sounds like you have a private concert in front of you. I installed this in my 04 Durango with the tweeters in the dash speaker location and the drivers in the front doors. Blows my factory Infinity system out of the water. The bass on these speakers is pretty good as well, but I have a subwoofer dedicated to serve that purpose. Overall I would highly recommend these speakers. The tweeters are not harsh like Infinity references ones.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first set of component speakers I've ever owned, and I have been very impressed. The woofers deliver nice bass without sounding too distorted and the tweeters are very clean sounding. I paried them with a Kenwood 60w amp and the system is very nice. The woofers installed perfectly with the mounting ring included in the box, the crossover fit exactly in in the door panel on the inside. The tweeters "nearly" fit perfectly in the sail trim panels on the upper door. I have been extremely pleased with these speakers.

Steve from Baltimore Maryland on 7/19/2011

Okay, so first off, the other reviewer, should have returned the speakers for another set. Crutchfield takes these things very seriously. Anyways, these speakers are fantastic. 50-150 bucks cheaper then JBL P660c's ((depending where you buy)) and yet louder, clearer, and smaller (depth wise). I cannot believe how amazing these speakers are. I have an amp that will run these at 75watts each RMS and about 150watts PEAK. Mixed with the JVC KD-R900, the music is so clear, I just can't believe it. Especially since these sound better then speakers that cost more. I don't use dynamat because its added weight, and yet still sounds fantastic. Sure it COULD probably increase mid bass response, but really, get a sub and stop setting the crossover for that sub at 80, rocket up to 150 or 200 where it belongs. :D Happy Listening.

Impressive sound, not so impressive quality

Stlyns from Ohio on 6/5/2011

I purchased and installed these in my truck, an '05 Ranger. They replaced a pair of Pioneer 6x8 4-ways, and sound so much better. Installation required making my own adaptors, as the included ones placed the speakers against the door panel. The speaker surrounds were poorly attached to the basket, as they peeled loose with ease, with very light thumb pressure. It appeared as though the adhesive used was improperly applied, and missed the edge of the surround, thus having a narrow adhesive strip at the innermost edge of the basket at the outer edge of the roll, maybe 1/16" wide I was able to reattach them myself with super glue. Not something you should need to do to a pair of two hundred dollar speakers. The tweeter mounting cups don't hold the tweeters well. After shutting the doors, they would fall out. I fixed that with some double sided tape. I doubt I would buy another Polk Audio product. Most of the issues I encountered were solved easily enough, but the speaker surrounds coming off the baskets were just blatant signs of unbelievably poor quality manufacturing. I will most likely replace these, as the Polk name is no longer synonomous with quality.

Product Research

High Efficiency Design: The Polk Audio DXi Series speakers feature a high efficiency design; meaning better sound and more volume using less power.

Dynamic Balance Driver Technology: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Klippel Optimized Components: For a driver to reproduce complex sounds accurately, the cone must move exactly the same distance and manner in both directions. The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Polk optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Composite Cones: The Polk DXi 6500 system features a Dynamic Balance, polymer/mica composite cone woofers. These composite cones feature tremendous stiffness-to mass ratio. Lower mass means faster transients and finer detail.

Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use rubber surrounds.

Mounting: Out of the box the DXi 6500 woofers are a direct replacement for many standard 6-3/4" applications. Two mounting brackets are included with holes matching standard 6-1/2" (3-hole), Ford 6-1/2" (asymmetrical 4-hole), and various 6-3/4" applications. Without using the mounting brackets the speaker also fits into many standard 6-1/2" openings, but with a four hole pattern is not a direct replacement (new screw holes would need to be drilled; in this instance mounting depth would be 1.984" and mounting height 0.468"; this application does not sort in the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector because using the mounting bracket requires no modification, and is therefore the preferred 6-1/2" mounting method).

Silk Dome Tweeters: The 1" liquid-cooled, silk/polymer composite dome tweeters provide clear, detailed highs.

Neodymium Magnets: Each tweeter employs a light-weight neodymium magnet for better efficiency.

Mounting: The supplied mounting cups allow you to surface or flush mount the tweeters. The tweeters swivel in the flush-mount housings, allowing you to adjust them for optimum imaging.

Tweeter Mounting Dimensions:

  Surface Mount Flush Mount
Mounting Height 1.036" 0.404"
Depth 0.817" (screw depth) 0.951"
Frame Diameter 1.997" 2.291"
Cutout Diameter N/A 1.943"

Design: The outboard Butterworth crossovers are 2-way with a 4 kHz crossover point; both the high-pass and low-pass output slopes are 12 dB/octave.

Tweeter Level Switch: You can adjust the output of the tweeter to match a level appropriate to your vehicle or your system. On the end of crossover (opposite the terminals) the switch can be set to -3 dB, 0 dB, or +3 dB.

Protection Circuit: Each crossover has a built-in electronic circuit that protects the tweeter from accidental overdriving.

Crossover Connections: The crossover inputs and outputs are screw terminals. The terminals will accommodate the included wire or spade connectors up to 0.35" wide.

Mounting: There are two mounting holes in the base of each crossover; the cover must be removed to install the mounting screws.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Width: 3.095"
  • Height: 1.072"
  • Depth: 5.029"
