The MM1040UM 10" 4-ohm subwoofer handles up to 350 watts RMS. A copper voice coil and neodymium magnet motor drives the polymer cone with exceptional efficiency. The carbon composite basket features a "wagon wheel" design that resists flexing during heavy excursion, so your sub hits solidly without distorting.

Polk designed this sub specifically for marine use. It passes rigorous salt-fog and UV testing, and sports corrosion-resistant stainless steel input terminals. The sub is suitable for free air use, so you can mount it in a bulkhead or another suitable location without the need for an enclosure. Stainless steel mounting hardware is also included.

Awesome Subwoofer

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very happy with the Polk Audio MM1040 Sub Woofer. I built my own box and it really came to life in an enclosure. It was the missing piece to my pontoon boat stereo. It adds so much to the sound and FEEL of my stereo. It's heavy, well built and looks awesome. I would highly recommend for those that want to do more than just hear music.

Pros: Well built, looks great, easy to install and sounds amazing. Adds such a FEEL to my music.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Polk audio scores again! I ordered the polk MM1040UM to install in our boat. I was unsure if I would like it. Well I love it! I have installed it inside a Sound Ordnance sub enclosure. I setup the amp per a recommendation from the experts at Crutchfield. I made a few small adjustments from there to get the sound I like. We took a long trip last week with the new setup we built, with the help of the experts at Crutchfield. I was grinning for days as I enjoyed the tight powerful sounds of my favorite music played through our new Polk speakers. Drive them with enough power and I think you too will be grinning with joy.

Pros: Well suited for outdoor and marine environment. Attractive unit. Sounds very clean and tight. Sounds great!

Cons: Price is a little more than similar subs but is made for the harsh environment of a marine installation.

Enclosure Compatibility

Marine Certified Woofer: This Polk MM Series woofer is built to withstand exposure to moisture, salt water, high humidity, UV rays, and a wide temperature range so they work well in a marine environment, such as a boat. They also include stainless mounting hardware for corrosion and rust resistance.

Klippel Optimized: Using a state-of-the-art Klippel Distortion Analyzer, Polk engineers were able to optimize the woofer's motor structure, voice coil alignment and suspension for the best possible performance, even at extreme listening levels.

Polymer Woofer Cone with Butyl Rubber Surrounds: The Polymer Woofer Cones and Butyl Rubber Surrounds will not break down over time and will survive the rigors of harsh marine environments.

Copper Voice Coil and Polyamide Former: The High Temperature 51mm Copper Voice Coil and Polyamide Former withstand the most rigorous use while maintaining extremely low distortion for bass punch and output.

Carbon Composite Basket: The woofer's carbon composite basket is lightweight and will not flex during music audio peaks.

Input Terminals: Stainless Steel plated heavy duty spring-post input terminals will not corrode or tarnish and accommodate speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

Preconditioning Period: Mobile Monitor subwoofers will achieve even greater performance once they are thoroughly broken in. To break in your new MM subwoofer, play 20 to 30 hours of music at moderate levels.

I have a Polk audio system stereo, amp and speakers in my boat and the reviews of this subwoofer are very good as well so I decided to stay with Polk speaker. [ McKinney woodworker  Jan 13, 2017 ]

Put mine under the helm seat in searay 290 sunsport and it thumps.I had no other place to put it.And it looks sweet.Good luck. And it is not in an enclosure. [ PATRICK  Apr 06, 2017 ]
You should definitely make an enclosure for it to sounds its best. Sealed box is only .65 cu. ft. -listed right there on the bottom of the description. Ported would be much larger volume and not as smooth response. [ ALBERT J  Apr 06, 2017 ]
This sub is free air you can port, seal or not. It sounds great. I installed this sub and two eight inch subs in saddle bags on my 2015 Can Am F3 Spyder and man does it sound good. The bass is nice and clean. I also use a set of 6.5 Polk Audio speakers for my highs mounted in kicker tower enclosures. Just make sure you have a decent amp to give it enough power. I use the Polk Audio 1600 watts 4 channel marine amp rated at 800 RMS which is more then enough to push 8 speakers. Hope this helps. [ Wilbur  Apr 05, 2017 ]
