Meet Polk Audio's RC80i. This value-packed pair of 8" in-ceiling speakers has been delighting our customers for years. And with good reason — not only do they sound fantastic, but they come with a lifetime warranty. Use them in your home theater for thrilling overhead surround sound. Or install a pair in any room where you want to enjoy music.
— Jeremy, a happy Crutchfield customer from Denver, Colorado
Planning a Dolby Atmos® or DTS:X® system? Use the RC80is for lifelike overhead sound effects. You'll love how sound moves up and down, instead of just side-to-side and front-to-back. These speakers are great options for the rear surround channels of your system, too.
Putting speakers in the ceiling for music with minimal visual clutter? Each RC80i is equipped with a robust 8" woofer for solid bass. And a swiveling tweeter lets you direct sound towards for you for the best sound.
Polk even uses moisture-resistant materials so you can install these in your bathroom, kitchen or covered porch with confidence.
Polk's rotating-cam design makes your in-ceiling installation go smoother. Once you have the RC80is in place, simply use a screwdriver to tighten each cam for a secure grip against the back of the ceiling.
Optional pre-construction brackets are recommended for new construction. Free lifetime technical support is provided with every Crutchfield purchase.
Great sounding flush mounts ceiling speakers.
Average Customer Review(s):
Great sounding flush mounts ceiling speakers.
Installed easily. Sound great as Atmos speakers. Happy with price.
Good speakers but have zero base. I would strongly recommend you have a subwoofer to go along with these. Very clear when turned up loud. I mostly use them for music and would buy another set for other rooms in my house. Four stars only due to lack of any bass.
They sound great
look great and easy to install. and sound good too.
Really enjoy these speakers. Installation was super easy with the provided templates. The fastening mechanism makes it really easy to secure in place.
I would like to rate these higher but I must be honest. I'm not impressed. I put four of these in my 11' ceiling in a great room with hardwood floors and area rugs. They are mounted in an insulated sheet rocked ceiling. They are in a rectangular 9' X 12' pattern with L and R being on the 12' side. First, they clearly lack bass, which I expected. I added a 10" powered Infinity sub which helped substantially. While the tweeters can be angled, they have limited range. I have the tweeters pointed straight down since I'm looking for full room coverage. However, I find that the spread of the tweeter is only about 3-4 feet from beneath the speaker leaving a dead spot in the center. Either I am too discriminating or I needed more speakers / different placement. Maybe I should switch L/R to the 9' side? Power is coming from an old Yamaha RXV-392 rated at 50W into 8 ohms @ .04 THD.
Pros: Look good!
Cons: Speakers aren't about looks, they are about sounds
This is my first review so please excuse any grammatical errors. I'm building a new home and will be installing a whole house audio system with 20 in ceiling and in wall speakers. This speaker is well built, solid and made from quality materials. I tested this speaker in a somewhat controlled environment with audiophile sources and it didn't distance itself from the less expensive speakers from Monoprice. I was amazed it didn't crush the inexpensive speakers. My testing further complicated my ability to chose a speaker for my whole house installation. Polk's legendary reputation as a solid performer led me to consider them for my needs. These speakers are $75.00 each and when compared to the Monoprice speakers that were $12.00 each on sale there is no clear winner based on sound quality. The inexpensive speakers had larger heavier magnets that covered the lower frequencies as well as the 6 times more expensive Polk's. As far as durability, weather resistance you would think that would be Polk's advantage. If I were purchasing 20 speakers based on my listening experience only I would pass on the Polk's and go with the equal sounding less expensive speakers. I wanted the Polk's to win, and will have a hard time justifying the additional 6 times the cost when it comes time to pull out my hard earned cash. I'm trying to justify the purchase of the Polk's by saying to myself how brutal the humidity is in Florida and the demands I place on my audio system for being on all day
Pros: Reputation, solid build, moisture resistant
Cons: Price. Absurd price for Pre construction brackets for this speaker. I would have given them a 5 star rating if the price would have more in line with the other speakers that were equal in sound and build quality.
Have only had hooked up for a day and am having great difficulty with my new Onkyo NR 656. In truth my rating at this time would be "too new to rate" .
I Installed a pair if these speakers in the ceiling of a hard-roof covered Lanai in Southwest Florida. Install was a snap, needing only a drywall saw and screwdriver! The sound is great, and the adjustable tweeters let me direct the sound a way from the neighbors (a little bit). Don't know how well they'll hold-up being outside yet, but based on the manufacturer's description and the fact that they are fully enclosed in a ceiling I don't anticipate any problems. They're just what I needed to get music outside and IMO look "cleaner" than surface mounted speakers.
Pros: Easy installation, Good Bass response and overall sound (For listening to Classic Rock)
Cons: None to think of!
looking for quality and value built in speakers - with enough low end energy. Shipping was quick and templates make install easy to understand. Used with RC85i for both surround and ambient sound in several rooms.
Great speakers, easy installation. I replaced some Boston Acoustics shelf speakers with these and I couldn't be happier. Fast shipping and knowing I could call and get great customer support if needed. Once installed they look super clean and are solid no worries if them falling out.
Pros: Sound, price, easy installation
Cons: I don't have more of them.
Great little speakers, at an even better price. Put them in the ceiling out on the patio ( 10' × 20' area) sound exceeded my expectation.
Pros: Great sound Easly install Fair price
Nice sound, for the price would recommend to anyone that does not want to go broke but would still like high end sound.
GREAT PRODUCT., GREAT SOUND, EASY INSTALLATION
Pros: SUPER PRODUCT, EASY INSTALL
Very happy with Max recommendation.Added bass to equation.
Pros: Reasonable price.
Great sound and easy to install
Phenomenal sound, enough said.
just what i wanted
Wow, what a nice sounding speaker.
Pros: Awesome sound Easy Install
exactly what I needed for my back covered porch
Pros: easy installation, great sound, water resistant
For the price point, you can not beat these speakers. They do not produce the deepest bass and will need a sub if you are looking for more than background music, however, they can handle serious power without distorting and fill a room nicely without sounding harsh.
Pros: Low Price Easy to install Quality sound Little distortion at high listening levels
Cons: Lacking in bass heavy
Excellent speakers. Sound is great.
Pros: Excellent product
Great product for the price. Put them in my kitchen and couldn't be happier.
Came from a 6 1/2 Sonance in our last home (as a comparison) and these sound great. Clear, clean and with good bass response for a ceiling speaker. For the price, you won't be sorry. You can spen crazy money for ceiling speakers...but you don't need to. Crutchfield service was top shelf, I'll buy from them again.
Pros: Clear sound Solid bass response
Cons: Make them with a "frameless grill?"
These speakers sound awesome and were easy to install. Decent bass and clear highs for all music types.
Pros: Sound and appearance.
I have always been a fan of Polk products, they are fairly priced and sound amazing. These speakers were an easy install and sound fantastic. I have them running off of my Sonos Connect. Couldn't be more thrilled with them.
Packages arrived as expected, in great shape, directions easily followed and diagrams easily understood, waiting for remolded to complete install and plug them in
Great sound great bass!
Using as atmos speakers. Crisp sound, more powerful than expected. Installation was fairly straightforward though template was slightly smaller than hole needed to be. Overall extremely pleased with purchase and would buy again
Great set of speakers. I purchased a pair last year from Crutchfield last year to finish off the surround sound in the den and didn't hesitate to make this purchase for another room. Great sound from polk as usual, installation was simple and I haven't looked back. Crutchfield came through with knowledgeable customer service when I needed.
Pros: Sound, Look and ease of installation
Bought these speakers to be part of my 5.1 surround sound system in my living room. I mounted them in the ceiling to the left and right just a bit behind where our main couch is centered in our living room. Installation was easy as I used the supplied templates to mark the holes to cut. I thought the weight was going to be a little too heavy but once I tightened the four mounting screws the speakers became flush with the dry wall and fit perfectly. I tested each speaker and the sounds was excellent.
Pros: Easy to follow installation template, handy mounting screws with pivotal arms, great looking flush speaker, excellent sound
The speakers produce good sound and were very easy to install!
Pros: Very easy to install and good sound
Cons: none so far
Replace my smaller in ceiling speakers that my kids did not blow. These speakers are bigger and have a lot better sound than the previous ones. Installation took a little longer due having to make the hole a little bigger than the template. Will let you know if kids blow these speakers.
Pros: Sounds awesome.
Cons: Install took a bit.
Simply the best in ceiling speaker you can buy. Crisp, clear sound with plenty of bass.
Pros: They are easy to install.
Just installed these speakers into a new residence for a 7.1 set-up, using 4 speakers in-ceiling to compliment the rear and center speaker. So far everything is working out great, no complaints. I believe these speakers are a steal for the cost considering the quality.
Pros: Great Value, great sound
These are excellent speakers at a reasonable price. They arrived quickly, packaging secure, excellent build quality. Installation, other than wiring, was easy thanks to the supplied cardboard templates. I ordered two pair for a 7.1 surround system, however, as I am about to order the Yamaha RX-A860 from Crutchfield, I am about to order another pair for in ceiling front presence speakers. Sound is excellent. Look great in ceiling. What more could you want?
Pros: Great value. Excellent sound quality, easy installation.
Bought these Polk speakers from Crutchfield and Yamaha in ceiling speakers from a different online store. The Yamaha speakers were a little easier to install and had a more robust connection. The Polk speakers had the standard press tab connector design and had a press fit screen. The Yamaha had a push button connector with a much stronger spring and a magnetic screen. All-in-all both speakers sound great and were fairly easy to install. Yamaha speakers were a little better made and a little easier to install. I'd recommend either. Crutchfield as usual was great to deal with and highly recommended.
Pros: Relatively easy installation and they sound great.
Cons: None really but they fall a little shy of their Yamaha equivalent.
I used these as my only speakers for about a week until I picked up some front speakers to go along with these Polk Audio speakers. The RC80i speakers sound really good and fit my budget very well. I would recommend these speakers. Because I have blown in insulation in my attic Polk Audio staff advised I needed to protect the speakers from this insulation but not completely cover the speakers. My simple fix was to obtain some 5 gallon buckets and cut the bottoms off. they are the right size to protect these speakers.
Pros: Sounds really good, easy to install, adjustable tweeter.
Excellent speakers, change the whole dynamics of my surround sound system. I will be buy another set. Very easy to install.
Very easy to install and sound really good.
Pros: Awesome quality for the price, easy to install and look great
Cons: None yet
Love the speakers! Excellent Product!
Pros: The sound is Great! Easy installation! Arrive quickly
Great sounding speakers and great price. Crutchfield makes it very easy to work with
Pros: Great sounding speakers
As you would want with ceiling speakers, they disappear quite seamlessly into the ceiling. Great sounding speakers; super cheap price compared to MSRP. I am surprised at the amount of bass they have, as well.
Great sound and easy to install. They blend well with the ceiling and are a pleasure to hear.
Pros: Sound quality, easy template install, and they showed up after just a couple days of ordering
These speakers were easy to install and had good efficiency ratings that matched my primary speakers for my home theater. The install is straight forward and require you cutting a hole in the sheet rock. These speakers sound good and have a directional tweeter you can move to point more in the direction your trying to send sound to. A better alternative is to get ceiling speakers that match the brand and type of your front and center speakers. This way the crossover and sound quality match. The problem, at least for me, is the matching ceiling speakers were way to expensive for my taste, unnecessarily if you ask me. That's why I think for the money you cant get better.
Installed these speakers throughout out home (Kitchen, family room, living room, Master Bedroom, etc) and connected to multiple Sonos ConnectAmps and we couldn't be happier with the performance with these speakers! Simple to install, look good and sound great!
Great sounding speakers. Easy to install. Crutchfield service Top Notch.
Great in-ceiling rounds! Had them in use for a little over a week and they sound crisp and clear. They are serving as my rears for my surround sound system. Paired perfect with Polk RC-255 center channels. May be more than I needed. Probably could have gotten away with 6" Polk. You won't be disappointed!
Pros: Clear crisp sound. Found this at the best price on Crutchfield. Amazon was quite a bit more expensive.
Cons: A little pricey compared to the 6" but if you have a larger space it's worth it.
Bought these speakers to be used in-ceiling as surround speakers. They were easy to install and have a good sound.
Pros: Easy installation ... good sound for price.
These are great speakers and the price at Crutchfield was very reasonable. The speakers were in short supply recently and other retailers were really gouging their customers as a result, but Crutchfield kept the normal price which I really appreciate.
Pros: Good base extension for a ceiling speaker.
These speakers are easy to install in the ceiling, no mounting brackets required. If you are familiar with "old-work" blue boxes, these speakers have the same idea that there is a clamp that holds them secure against the drywall. Make sure you have the depth and diameter required, see the specs. I like that these speakers are made of marine grade SS, so they should have a long life where I live in the hot and humid jungle near the ocean (and its salt-spray)..
Pros: Easy install into drywall ceiling, provided you can run the wires to the location. Sound quality suitable for surrounds.
These are awesome speakers and the only negative would be that the installation can be a bit messy. It helped to hold a vacuum hose next to the saw blade as I cut the holes. My advise is to watch a couple youtube videos about installing ceiling speakers before attempting. Pretty straightforward.
Pros: Awesome sound!
Cons: Installation can be messy.
Sounds great! A real bang for your buck.
Pros: Great sound. Great cost. Easy to install.
You can't beat the price and performance. Great speakers, clear sound!
Pros: Amazingly quick delivery, easy website
These speakers were recommended by Crutchfield adviser to be compatible with my new amp/receiver that was also purchased from Crutchfield. I am very satisfied with the two purchases.
Pros: Good quality sound from the combination of the two purchases.
Cons: Cutting 9" holes in the ceiling without filling the room with dust. To avoid the dust I put several damp paper towels into the box the speakers came in and mounted it to the ceiling directly under the soon to be cut hole. I then went up into the attic and cut the hole. The dust went into the box where it was contained by the damp paper towels. If you mount the box to the ceiling you will have to repair the mounting holes. I suggest having someone hold the box flush with the ceiling.
Great Speakers for the price! Very clear, crisp, strong sound. I couldn't be happier with the purchase and it was at my house in 2 days (I didn't pay for extra shipping).
Pros: Price for the quality
Great sounding speakers for the price. Put a pair outside on the covered deck, liked them enough to order 2 more pairs to put in the ceiling inside.
Pros: Quality sound, easy to install
Very easy install and high quality components. Note that color is off-white.
Googled the top 10 in-ceiling speakers and these came out high on the list and based on the price they were available for, they seemed like a great deal. I wanted to buy from a reputable seller, hence Crutchfield. I possibly could have got them a little cheaper. Suffice to say that Crutchfield was lowest price supplier I felt comfortable with. They are bigger than I expected, but installation was easy - they fit between ceiling joists easily. Sound is great - I installed 2 pairs in my lounge room and I am using them through a Yamaha receiver and with a Polk sub-woofer. I am not an audiophile so will leave the analysis of the sound quality to others. I know they are just what I wanted and would recommend the speakers and their purchase from Crutchfield as highly as I can.
I havent tried these in a surround system setup. I installed 4 across my split level ceilings for a whole house sound system. Angled 11ft ceilings, these things sound great as the sound reflects all kind of ways...install was easy...cut the 9in holes, hook up wires, and tighten the dog legs...thats it...hardest part of everything was keeping the drywall dirt from flying everywhere, cleaning the darn vacuum as it clogged the filter, and finding a paper clip to remove the speaker covers to tighen the screws...the grill is on there pretty snug so took a bit of effort...they need to include some kind of paper clips to remove them easy... Overall i love them...might install some in the bathroom as they are water resistant.
Pros: Look great, sound great...nice tremble...and easy install
Cons: kinda hard to remove speaker grill with a normal paper clip...they need to include some kind of skinny wire that's easy to remove it or ship with grills uninstalled...
I tried out the RC-65i, a pair of Yamaha's, and a pair of Klipsch that I can't remember. The RC-80i's sounded the best with better bass and mid-range. Speakers were easy to install for my rear surround setup.
Pros: Easy to install. Great sound.
Amazing for the price. Blends well with my current Definitive Technology speakers.
Pros: Great bass. Great highs and easy to install.
Cons: The grills fit too tightly and are hard to remove. I had to use a paper clip to pry them off.
This is my second pairof RC 80i speakers. The first pair I installed in the den and they sound great. So I bought another pair for the garage. Can't wait to install them.
Pros: Good bass and clarity for size and location. Adjustable tweeter definitely enhances sound.
Cons: Working in the attic...
You can't beat the price and performance.
Easy to install and great sound for the money.
Really badass speakers for the price! Worked great for the application that I needed.
Amazingly quick delivery, easy website
I bought three pair of these speakers for a 6.1 Home Theater Surround System (Denon AVR X-3000 Amp). Also purchased a fourth pair for a Second zone. The speakers are easy to install (once you commit to cutting a big hole in your wall/ceiling. Sound is perfect for what we wanted. Bonus Free Subwoofer compliments of Polk (at Crutchfield) for the purchase of the other speakers.
Pros: Easy install (templates included), Paintable, GREAT sound.
Cons: While the install is easy enough, committing to cutting the holes can be a deal breaker.
Great value and great quality
Purchased a pair for the outside covered deck and a pair for inside. No complaints, great value and easy to install,
Great Speakers at a good price.
Pros: direction tweeter is a nice touch and does work as expected
Cons: the "locking" mechanism that hold the speaker in place can be over tightened and crunch the drywall.
Pleasantly surprised by how well the speakers sound right out of the box, thoroughly impressed with the sound for the price
These speakers are great for the price, they are a little heavy on the bass but this can be adjusted through your amp or receiver. They were a breeze to install and just require a little confidence when cutting the holes in your ceiling. remember measure twice cut once. Overall, quality speakers for the price.
Pros: easy to install, great price
Cons: little heavy on bass
Great speakers, clear sound.
For the price, these speakers rock. I have no complaints with this purchase. Great quality and a nice rich sound.
Pros: price, sound, ease of install.
These speakers are used for my surrounds on a basic 5.1 system. Excellent sound quality. Assuming wiring is already there, the installation is complete in less than 30 minutes. Template is provided. I will be purchasing two more pairs for different rooms in my home. Crystal clear sound, produces bass well for a ceiling speaker. Can't go wrong with these speakers. Very affordable, excellent sound.
Pros: Sounds great, excellent quality, easy install
Installation was a snap! The hardest part was getting over the fear of cutting a hole in the newly finished basement ceiling. I was going to get ceiling speakers from Monoprice but after reading the reviews in both sites, one common thread came through: you get what you pay for. I know I sacrificed sound quality by using this type of speaker, and I didn't want to sacrifice anymore by getting a bargain speaker. They are inastalled and look great, I have not hooked them up yet. But if the reviews are half right, I will have a great sound for my TV room.
Pros: Easy installation and hook up
Very good speakers.
I would like to thank Crutchfield sales advisor for recommending me the ceiling speakers from Polk bass sounds so fabulous crystal clear
Pros: Polk Audio crystal clear sound well worth the money
Cons: none found
I bought these with the Onkyo nr838 with Dolby Atmos and I feel like I'm in the XD theater. Extremely satisfied with the power of the sound coming thru these speakers
Bought a pair of the RC60i's a few years back. Needed a new pair for another location and decided to get the RC80i, wish I would have got these the first time around. Another pair may be in my near future.
Pros: Sound great, good price and easy install
Cons: none as of yet
These are very nice speakers for the money. They were very easy to install and they sound great. They arrived within 2 days of ordering them. I am a happy customer and will order from Crutchfield again in the future.
Pros: Good value for the money and easy to install.
Connected to an onkyo tx-nr626. Clean sounding speakers for the price. Sounds so good that my wife wants me to order 2 more and install them in the bedrooms
Pros: Clean sound, price, blends in nice to ceiling
Pros: EASY INSTALL
Cons: NO COMPLAINTS
Product is as described. Good quality, price. Nice sound to compliment other Polk speakers for a home theatre system.
Pros: See above.
Pros: Great for music.
Cons: None yet.
Great price, fairly easy installation (assuming wires, etc. there), and excellent sound. Will rattle a bit with volume from wireless system turned all the way up on the device, os simply turn down device a little, and then use speaker volume control. Sounds great, and very pleased.
Pros: Price, installation pretty easy (requires cutting sheet rock and mounting).
Cons: not "top of the line" (but close especially for the price)
Awesome speakers ! Great value and warm full sound.
Bought these speakers based on my knowledge of the company, the Crutchfield advisor's recommendation, and pricing. We paired the speakers with the Onkyo TX-NR828. These ceiling speakers exceeded my expectations. They are truly wonderful speakers and I can see how couch potatoes are created.
The first review is for Crutchfield. After a less desirable experience with a local big box store, the Crutchfield representative walked me through options at various price points. He guided me to these for their quality, performance and value. They were priced better then the other store. Installation was super easy once I got over the anxiety of cutting into my family room ceiling. The template that was provided was perfect. I am using these RC80i's for my home theater in our family room. The perform very well and met my expectations.
Pros: Value for the performance. Crutchfield makes the difference. I feel like I examined the appropriate options and made the right choice with their guidance.
Cons: None so far.
Very pleased with these speakers. Have 4 in my living room and 2 more in my garage. They sound great.
Using these for Fronts in a 5.2 ch. MC80 Center recommended since the majority of sound comes through here. Only needed the RC60i for the rears
Pros: easy install. Pre-primer'd grills make spraying a synch!
I installed these myself in our basement that we just finished, along with Polk Audio TSi100 bookshelf speakers, Polk Audio PSW111 subwoofer and a Polk Audio Center Channel 255c-RT connecting to a Yahama receiver. It sounds awesome!! If you are an audiophile, you can probably pick a few things apart, but for everyday use in a basement TV area it came together great.
Pros: Easy to install. Sounds great.
Good quality and a reasonable price. The speakers have strong bass and clear treble but lack a little in the midrange. Because of this sound, these speakers will make good music or even surround speakers but may not be the best for dialogue or low level listening.
Pros: Strong bass and clear treble.
Cons: A little weak in the midrange.
Great sound, I have 4 in the basement for a home theater and just tried this 4 for music last week birthday party and every one was asking about it . Easy to install temple work fine and great price. Will recomend this product.
Pros: Sound, price,
These Speakers are awesome. Extreamly Fair Price. Sound is impeccable. Wouldn't go anywhere else.
Pros: Best Sounding Speakers ever
I used to the speakers for in ceiling surround sound. They fit the bill to a T! Excellent sound for the price.
This was a birthday gift to my son ~~~ he was very happy!
I installed 2 pair of these speakers in the ceiling of my outdoor patio and they sound great....the sound is crisp and clear
Pros: Easy to install...nice cut out template provided
Great speakers. Great cost.
Pros: Great sound, almost invisible. Excellent customer support from sales rep.
Great sound! Great price! I order too many speakers and needed to return a box and was blown away with how prompt and friendly Crutchfield was. I will never do business anywhere else. Thanks again!
I love these speakers. For the price I think they sound fantastic! They were easy to install and I now have a 9.1 system powered by the Denon AVR 5805. I recommend them.
Pros: Crutchfield's lightning FAST delivery. East to install, nice appearance and sound.
Very happy so far with the quality and sound of these speakers. I bought them for our home theater and they sound great. I'm told that they get even better as the materials break-in with time.
Great quality sound, just what I had expected since it is sold by Crutchfield
Great sound for the price. Installation couldn't have been easier. I ordered 2 pairs for both front and rear speakers and ordered the Polk Audio MC80 (single speaker) for the center channel. Clear, crisp sound with plenty of bass.
Speakers were as describe. Nice looking and sound OK to me. We have one pair in the ceiling and one pair in the wall. We installed them ourself. Not that big of a problem. The lip around the edge is sufficient that the hole did not have to be that exact. Ran into one problem in that where we wanted to put one speaker was too small. Had to cut a 2x4 a little to get it to fit.
excellent sound and quality!
Great speakers for the price. Really like adjustable tweeters. Installed myself. Very easy installation.
Pros: Easy install great price look clean in ceiling sound great adjustable tweeters
We bought these to replace our bookshelf speakers with in-ceiling speakers to save space. These speakers provide excellent, full sound and were a snap to install
Pros: - great sound - easy install - clear instructions
Cons: - somewhat difficult to remove grill for installation and painting
Just had a Def Tech Center, and two Klipsch towers for a number of years. I added two RC80i's for my surround in the ceiling. Very good sound quality, and now my head spins from the surround sounds. I should have added this years ago. I place the speakers behind my rear couch, and the sound bounces around, I like it.
Pros: Ease of Install, Sound Quality at a decent price.
Thanks for the help did not need much help had in previous home . Had to go with what I know is good
Using for Rear surround sound - they work great!! Easily installed and almost 'invisible' when installed. The directional tweeters are also a very nice feature.
Easy to install , massive crossover network. Using for rear surrond. I matched with TSI 300 fronts and CS center. More bass than I expected. Replaced Infinity 2000.1 bookshelf speakers and the difference is stunning
Pros: Easy to install , sound awesome. Cheap but very well built
We needed to update 25 year old speakers throughout the property and the Polk Audio RC80i has worked well. We do have to drive them a bit for the low end to come through in this application.
Pros: Clear sound, sold in pairs.
Great speaker and easy to install!
Pros: Easy to install and great looking!
I have used these speakers on several projects and they never disappoint my clients. Great sound anywhere in the room.
Pros: Easy installation, great sound and price
I'm using these as the rear channel in a 5.1 set-up. These were very easy to install and the sound performance is very good. Primary use is movies and gaming. This is my first 5.1 set-up so I don't have a lot to compare to. I can say that if you are debating whether to go 5.1 and install rear speakers (vs front only)...do yourself a favor and go with the true surround if you can. The rear speakers really enhance the movie and gaming experience. These speakers perform very well. I'm impressed with their range and clarity. The directional tweeters are also very helpful.
Pros: Ease of installation, directional tweeters, impressive range and fullness of sound, price is pretty good for what you get.
The Polk RC80i ceiling speakers are awesome. They are very easy to install. They sound very crisp and have great midrange response. These also blend well with my Polk CSi A4 center channel. The tweeters can be swiveled to be aimed toward your listening position. Great value!
Pros: Great value Sound very clean and crisp looks great in the ceiling space saving
Best part about my buying experience was the advice from Crutchfield customer service. Very helpful & answered all of my questions thoroughly. Much better than dealing with the local big box stores - like night & day.
Pros: Great deal. Easy to install.
Cons: nothing yet
Fantastic Speakers at a great price. Replaced a set of Klipsch" that were blown. These are rich full and perfect for my system. I called Crutchfield and talked to an advisor and he stated that I would probably not be able to tell the difference between these and more expensive models. All I know is they sound fantastic at a great price.
Pros: Sound Great Great Price Fit it the Klipsch Holes perfectly
Awesome! I took these out of the box, followed the directions, and had them installed and working in no time. They sound great and look good in the ceiling with the as-is white. Using pair as rear surround sound 5.1.
Pros: Easy to install Sound great
Compliments rc 85i speakers nicely!
Pros: Nice compliment for surround sound
if you could afford a 3-way speaker 70 RT.. It will best way to go.
These speakers are super affordable and I love the sound that I get out of them. I bought 4 pairs of them for my office over 2 years ago and liked them so much I recently installed them in the ceiling of a new home that we are currently building.
Pros: Great sound, affordable.
Fast shipping, needed ceiling speakers as a new hardwood floor didn't need wires popping up to stands. The fronts will be Polk Tsi mains and center on a large entertainment center. Found a center between rafters, marked it with a nail, used the provided templates, used a hand saw rather than a rotozip and smoothed it with sandpaper. Used a drill till tension showed and finished with a Phillips hand screwdriver. Once I reset the Macc on the pioneer elite vsx51 they came to life as the rear surrounds, amiable tweeters work well. Yes I would recommend these as rear surrounds, I've used 14 gauge wire that I fished down through the wall and attached to a wall speaker outlet that I put in at the same time. Took half the afternoon. Would have been quicker but the GF decided she needed her nails done...eh
Pros: Great sounding speakers, can handle anything from Bach to Armageddon, nice price point for a pair, can be installed by one person
Cons: Eh, just take your time installing,
Polk is the only way to go people. I have 4 of these along with a Polk powered sub, Polk center and Denon receiver and it will blow your socks off! Everyone that has heard this system says the sound is coming from everywhere, crisp and clear. It is definitely worth taking the time to install flush mount speakers than buying a out-of-the-box system. Worth every penny!
Pros: Great sound, easy install and look great
These speakers work good as entry level HT Ceiling speakers. Great value.
I recently purchased a condo in which the previous owner had removed the rear ceiling speakers leaving hoples in the ceiling .Your staff recomended these speakers. I couldn't be more pleased with the results.
Pros: Good sound quality
I have a very large house that was all pre-wired for speakers but didn't have any. I was looking for a decent speaker that wasn't too expensive since I was going to buy multiple sets. I tried one, loved it, and bought them for the rest of the house. I use them as rear surrounds and as main speakers in different rooms of the house.
Pros: Easy install, great sound, very nice looking
Cons: Be careful when installing. When you screw in the drywall fasteners, you'll be tempted to switch from a screwdriver to a screw gun/drill because it takes a little while. That's fine, but put it on a low torque setting otherwise, you could easily crush the drywall around the hole you just cut. It's not a product flaw, just a warning to be careful.
I have 2 sets of these Polk speakers in the ceiling of my garage and they sound good. Not the best sound but nice for the price.
Pros: Nice product for the price.
Cons: Grills are cheaply made.
I have 4 of the Polk RD85i speakers in the walls of the bonus room along with 2 Polk RC80i speakers in the ceiling and a Polk TSI CS10 hooked up to a Onkyo TX-NR515. The sound is amazing and would like to thank the Crutchfield customer service for their help getting this all together.
These speakers came right on time and were well packaged. I was impressed with the Crutchfield website and customer service. The speakers were easy to put into the ceiling. I actually bought four of them for my surround sound system. On a scale of one to ten I'd give them a Seven in terms of sound quality. A bit tinny sounding but the sub helps out. Would buy again because of the price and quality.
Great price and they sound much better than what I was using before (Home theater in a box). Haven't tested much more expensive models. Also, I have installed and uninstalled them about 10 times and have not had one clip break. I guess just realize that you are in fact dealing with plastic and be realistic when tightening it.
Speakers were nicely packages and easy to install. I'm planning to use them in a remodeled kitchen and tested these speakers out by hanging them from the joists in the ceiling. They sounded crisp and clear. I can't wait to hear them after the ceiling drywall is in place and I re-install the speakers. I'm hoping the enclosure will help the bass a bit because it was not as strong as I would have liked. I may have to augment with a subwoofer to get a deeper bass response. The speakers are very good for a kitchen ceiling.
Pros: Great looking, easy to install, good sound clarity for the price.
Cons: Could use a little more bass, but that is what a subwoofer is for.
Just finished our basement and went with polk speakers for 5.1 surround system. Great sound and easy to install.
Pros: Price & Sound. Working with Crutchfield is the only way to go. I'll never shop anywhere else for electronics.
These speakers have revealed a whole new dimension to my music. I didn't know what I was missing. matched them with the Polk CSi A4 (center speaker) and a pair of Polk RTi A1 speakers. Great sound!!!!!!
Pros: Look great and sound great.
I'm loving these speakers.
They're a little flat with no EQ, but once I installed an equalizer with the AMP-100, they had a great tone, tons of bass and clear highs.
Great sounding speakers and easy to install!
Pros: Easy installation, sound quality, directional/adjustable tweeters
Great speakers, great sound, and easy to install. Bought 5 pairs.
Pros: Can move the tweeter. Good bass. easy to mount.
Cons: None at this time
Just installed these as rear surrounds in the ceiling for a 7.2 channel set up in my media room. They sound absolutely fantastic (lows, mediums and highs) and will be paired with Polk 65RTs as surrounds, Polk RTiA7's as fronts and a Polk CSiA6 as my center. The pivot-able tweeter is key too and it really allows you to direct your sound where it's most critical to you. Very happy with the way Polk provides a template for the cut-out in the ceiling and the fastening system works flawlessly. Just be sure not to over tighten these AND do not worry about the grill as it will be difficult to get off (the reason it is hard to get off is so it stays on when the speaker is in use). Take a corkscrew and try to lift the speaker ONLY from the edge of the grill (where it meets the plastic/woofer). Just pry a little bit from 4 different points and eventually you will loosen the grille enough to get it off. Pry only from around the edges people!!! What a brilliant design across the board from Polk Audio. 5 STARS!!!!!
Sounds great, easy install, affordable and fast delivery. Well done Crutchfield.
I haven't been able to install these yet but there seems to be some issues with getting the grill covers off without damaging the grill covers. I found that you need only to hold the speaker in your lap and slightly push down on the sides and working all the way around the speaker. The grills will then start to pop right out of the enclosure. No need to use a bent paper clip. The speakers seem to be well built and should live up to all the previous reviews. jd
Speakers are heavy and need additional support on my 2X 2 foot drop ceiling tile. I used 1/8" hardwood plywood above the ceiling tile to clamp onto! Wood available inexpensively at Lowes. The speakers have great sound, strings sound great with the tweeter and bass is more than acceptable. A luxury to have in my dental operatory. You can't get much more sound definition for the reasonable cost of this pair of speakers. Speakers are attractive and well made.
Pros: easy to install in ceiling tile, went without a hitch. Great Sound! Crutchfield had them to me in 48 hours, packed beautifully. Telephone support was exceptional! These guys really want you to be happy.
Ease of install was incredible! The templates were right on and after cutout the self treading screws locked the speakers into the ceiling with ease. Quick connect clips were positioned great and the low profile of the magnet made avoiding one ceiling joist a breeze!
Pros: Great package pricing for the two speakers
Cons: None apparent
Extremely user friendly and easy to install
Pros: Easy to follow instructions, sounded great in kitchen where the accoustics aren't the best.
The sound quality performance of the speaker was certainly acceptable for the price. The complaint is purely with the grill covers and how the instruction guide directed me to remove them with a bent paper clip which resulted in bent grill holes. Must have taken over an hour to gently coax them off without damage, all to no avail. A preferred packaging solution would have been like their higher end models(i.e.- MC80) where the covers are not attached from the onset. I'll be seeking replacement grills from Polk. I'm curious how they will handle my request.could be off to Definitive.
Excellent sound for rear surround.
Pros: Easy to install in ceiling
Cons: No literature on whether you let insulation contact the speakers. I chose to make an enclosure behind them made out of round concrete forms about 12" tall with a styrofoam top and lined with felt. Keeps the insulation off the speakers and sounds good
Great sound from an inexpensive speaker. I have paired these 4 in-ceiling speakers with a subwoofer and have achieved a much better than expected result... easy to mount and great to listen to... thanks
Pros: Audio quality, ease of installation, inexpensive, good name for home resale
Cons: i got nuttin
sound quality is fine for our use - they are in a 15' ceiling in a business. We also painted them black to match the ceiling - very easy to do with the templates provided. We did need to buy an extra support to place them in ceiling tiles as they were a little heavy.
Pros: easy install, easy to paint
Easy install. I chose for outdoor ceiling use. Don't expect great sound or performance, but you get what you pay for. Good middle of the road speakers.
Pros: Easy install, moisture resistant, price.
Cons: Sound a little harsh. Not great frequency response.
These speakers are awesome. To be honest, i have no other in-ceiling speakers to compare them to but they sound amazing. They are being run by a Denon 2312-CL and they sound good. For the price, you can NOT beat this!!
Pros: Easy to install, sound great, affordable.
Simple to install and sound GREAT!!
Pros: That I can use these outside underneath my covered deck!! Sound Quality and look great!
Excellent speakers for my surround. Easy to install (wires were pre-run when the house was built) and great sound. Call the 800 number and talk to an advisor before a purchase. They are very helpful and and made choosing the right speakers for me easy.
Pros: Easy to install and really great sound. Tweeters are adjustable.
Bought a pair to expand to 7.1 with my existing B&O surrounds. Built .8 CF boxes of 3/4" birch and mounted them in the ceiling. The Polks sounded much better than I thought the purchase price would get me. So, I bought a second pair to replace the B&Os in the back surround locations. I boxed these also and drove them with my main channels to get a feel what they would do. In these boxes, they reproduced most of the spectrum extremely well. Hit pretty hard and tight, and the highs were pretty clean. I mounted these permanently in the back surround location. Now, I'm extremely happy with my full Monitor Series setup.
Pros: Sound quality, price, directional tweeters.
Cons: Ceiling installs make a mess.
The sound quality and construction cannot be beat for the price point. The mounting system couldn't be easier. The in ceiling speakers do lack some of the quality bass and lower frequency but most in ceiling/in wall speakers do. Overall a great pair of speakers for the price.
The Polk Audio RC80i in ceiling speakers are used as my rear surround sound speakers powered by a Denon AVR-891 Receiver and, they sound awesome. I ordered the speakers through Crutchfield and they were shipped well packaged and, the delivery was quick. It took the installer a few hours to run wires through the ceiling and walls but, it was worth the wait. The speakers themselves installed effortlessly.
Pros: Sounds Great!!!
Cons: Running wires through the ceiling and down the walls (with insulation) took a while.
Very happy with these speakers it is my 4th set. great sound for the price very easy to install
Pros: aimable Tweeter very easy installation
I bought 2 pairs and put them in my basement ceiling and they sound great. I would recommend them
Pros: easy installation / clarity / responsive
Bought four of these for our kitchen remodel and installed all of them in the rough openings in just one hour. They are VERY easy to install and sound great. Crutchfield had a great price on them and my order came in a timely fashion with no problems. I accidently bent one of the grills during installation and called Crutchfield for a replacement. Not only did I talk to a real person, they are sending out a replacement grill at no charge to me! Way to go Crutchfield, you went beyond the call of duty!
Pros: Easy install, great sound, great price
Cons: Be careful with the grill - they are a little sensitive.
Bought these Polks back in late 2010 and finally installed them just before the end of 2011. Took my time so the job took 1 to 1 1/2 hours but the end result looks great and the Polks sound far better than I would have guessed. Glad I went with the 8" Polks.
Pros: Templates are actually the correct size (don't assume they are with all in-wall, in-ceiling speakers). Mounting clips work easily and can be worked with a screwdriver (don't assume this will all speakers). Sound is better than I would have guess for price and brand.
Cons: Nothing bad to say about the Polks. Installing ceiling speakers is a messy job with lots of drywall dust but the end result with the Polks looks very good.
Speakers sound great. Also want to add: Everyone is complaining about how hard it is to get the grill off. Here's the fix. Someone posted it earlier. Use the screws/locking mechanism that hooks it in the ceiling or wall and push down on them pretty hard. The screws will push the grill out for you and you'll be all set.
These speakers provide excellent sound quality throughout my home, came at a reasonable price per pair, and were very easy to install thanks to the easy locking mechanism that automatically "clamps" the speaker to your ceiling or wall drywall.
Best design for installation I have ever seen. Much better sound than the 60i. I have been exceptionally pleased given the price point.
Installed these speakers in basement ceiling for general use in 4 zones. Not pleased with the sound quality. They sound is muffled and lacks crispness or decent bass. Ended up not using some of these and coudn't return them as too much time had passed. Purchased Infiniti speakers and replaced a set with them and the Infinitis sound fantastic. Also wish as I had discussed my needs with the sales technicial that I had been recommended to use the speakers where Left and Right are built into one unit. That would have saved a lot of cutting and provided me with the same outcome.
Very nice speakers, easy to understand on how to install. The grill screens were a little tough to remove (to access mounting screws), but not insurmountable. And they sound great. I would highly recommend these speakers/brand.
I am very impressed by these speakers. The construction seems very high quality. Installation was exceptionally easy - literally just cut the hole in your drywall using the included template, hook up the wires, and turn four screws for each speaker. I am using these as a stereo pair in a secondary room, primarilary for music. The sound is very good. Overall for the price this is an outstanding pair of speakers.
Great speaker for the price. This sounds more full and dynamic than the 6" speaker. Well worth buying up to this 8" speaker. I rate this a 5 star and the 6" a 3 star. This 8" handles the power good and delivers great sound and rocks the room. Would recomend a sub woofer to get those deeper and fuller base sounds. I paired 4 8" for front and rear with a PSW125 sub and I am happy. Installed 8" pairs in 3 other rooms and 6" in 2 rooms.
After a lot of research and reading reviews on other products i chose Polk RC80i. They are a great speaker for the money.
Solid speaker. Well made. Nice performance. I purchased 4 of the these (rear surround, back, and center) and 2 MC80 for the fronts. Although they are not voice matched to the MC80 they work well with them. Especially in the positions they are in. The MC80's are a better speaker and worth the extra money but use them where you need the extra money spent. Otherwise use the RC80i's. They are better with a sub but an 8" woofer performs well. you need a sub to really bring out effects in movies, especialy with in-cieling speakers. The average guy cant tell the differance in sound. One note - the speaker grills do not contain the white paper on the inside as the grills on the MC80's do. That paper goes a long way in makeing them blend into your ceiling. Without the paper they take on a yellow or brown hue sicne the tiny holes in the grill let the black color of the speaker itself show through. The white paper on the MC80's makes the entire grill (holes and all) look white. That is my only complaint. Otherwise the funntion very well.
These speakers produce weak sound; I use them as rear speakers, and they are drowned by my Polk MC speakers in front.
I purchased three of these along with three MC80s and the Polk PSW111 subwoofer. I use the RC80i speakers for surround and the MC80s for the front three. Installation is really quite simple. Assuming you have the wires in place, just cut a hole, plug in wires, place speaker in the hole and tighten the four screws. That's it. The hardest part was figuring out exactly where to cut the holes so that they lined up perfectly. They sound great and are probably good enough to be used as a front two if not a front three in a surround sound setup.
The sound quality is very good, especially for the price. Installation is pretty simple. It takes a little bit of work. I installed mine in the ceiling(2 pair). Since the back of the speakers pertrude into the ceiling or wall depending on where you mount them, make sure you know what is behind the sheetrock like a stud for example. You don't want to cut a hole and then realize your speaker won't fit into the wall/ceiling. Then, you would have to fix the hole you made. OVERALL, I am very satisfied and would recommend this product to anyone.
Installation was easy and these speakers sound great. No complaints.
I'm happy that I got the Polk RC80i's they sound great and were easy to install. The only problem I had was a little blown in insulation in my face when I made the cutouts. Crutchfield made the buying process simple.
First I definitely recommend going with the 8". I installed the speakers, rather easy to do with the cutouts, and installed R30 insulation batting behind the speakers. They have a very flat sound as is out of the box. It took me a while to put a finger on it, but finally I tweaked them and they came alive. Essentially, what I found in my ceiling was the 2.0 khz range was low or dead out of this speaker. I tested a bunch of music and settled on a song I am very familiar with, I tweaked the EQ in my reciever to +3 DB for the 2.0KHZ range and now they sound right...Very good, with proper adjustments they will come alive.
Really nice speakers for the price. You can't beat it. Certainly not super-high end by any means. The low end response is not fantastic, so make sure you've got a sub-woofer in the room! Installation is as easy as possible (ceiling and wall installations are always difficult and time consuming.) I highly recommend these speakers if you're not looking to drop $500/each (IMHO, the price point where the untrained ear can actually hear a difference).
Outstanding sound quality. Install was a piece of cake. Install tip: Use a rotozip saw w/ the circle cut accessory, and set the hole to 9 3/4". This is a much cleaner way than using the template and standard drywall saw, while cutting perfect circles in the drywall.
Outstanding sound quality. These speakers are perfect for any type of listening pleasure. Definitely a must have, 7.1 in the ceiling!! Yeah.
I purchased three pair for in-ceiling installation of five speakers. I had to buy them in pairs, but at this price, having a spare is no big deal. I spent far more time measuring and using a stud finder than I did installing these. Very straightforward. Template was sized right, and speaker connections are solid. I am very pleased by the sound...they are used as surround sound and for cranking the tunes whenever I can. I paired them with a Polk subwoofer and the system sounds great. They look sharp - very unobtrusive - and they sound great...clear at all volume levels. I like to crank up the volume and these don't disappoint. I am not sure what to do with the sixth speaker...but, at this price, I'll keep it as a spare or sell it on an auction site. Nice product quality.
Outstanding product - very easy to install and the sound they generate is first-rate. The installation took less than 2 minutes (once the ceiling hole was properly drilled). The screw-in latches that secure the speakers to the ceiling are incredibly well-designed - very intuitive and easy to install. The sound quality is excellent - crisp and clear. I would strongly recommend this product to anyone looking for a set of ceiling speakers.
These speakers were the perfect solution to acheive 7.1 with the space and room configuration limitations I had. Easy to install and great sound! I'm very happy with the product.
I recently bought Sonos (great product), and I needed a pair of good, moisture-resistance speakers to extend Sonos into my bathroom. These speakers certainly filled the bill. They sound great at all volume levels, they look great, they ware not expensive, and they were very easy to install.
I am not an audiophile. I bought these after reading the reviews here on Crutchfield.com. They work as advertised and sound great. They were easy to install, and are unobtrusive once installed.
These are great speakers. The first time we listened to them, we were amazed at the quality of the sound. The size was perfect and the price was very good compared to other speakers we were looking at. They are also very easy to install.
I bought these to replace my rear surrounds that I have with my Polk RM6900 and the minute I turned on a movie, I was in awe! My wife asked if we could put these in every room of our house as we are planning a whole house system. These are easy to install, VERY affordable and the sound is second to none for the price.
The speakers are easy to install. I put in 8. 4 in a great room and 2 in each of the larger bathrooms with a volume control for each. They sound really good. I was also worried about bass response but the speakers perform better than advertised in my opinion. The high end is not as crisp as I would like at times but still the speakers sound great for the cost.
So far I have 6 sets of these installed in my house in a whole house audio system. I am using a Niles SI-2125 200 watt amp going into a Niles SSVC-6 to control the zones and volume levels. I am presently saving up for a SONOS system, but for the time being the Niles power/control setup works fine. You cannot beat the price on these, and they sound great. Install is a snap and they sound great. The only minor issue I have noticed is that if you crank the bass up too much they sometimes distort a bit. But this is easily fixed by balancing your system properly. Keep up the great work Polk!
These are some very awesome speakers. I installed a pair in my bedroom ceiling. Installation was simple; sound is very good with decent, not overwhelming bass and the sound carries into our adjoining bathroom suite without any problems. Both my wife and I are extremely pleased with the clean look and sound. We opted for wall volume controls so we can control the sound remotely. Quality overall, very good to excellent. I would buy these again in a heartbeat. I bought these at Crutchfield late last summer, and didn't install until Novemver 2007.
These were easy to install and they sound great! All four speakers installed in less than three hours.
I installed four of these speakers in the ceiling over my living room and dining room. Its a 20 foot ceiling, so its a large space to fill. The overall sound is warm and full, my only initial feeling was that I was missing some on the low end. But Im used to my family/theatre room with a large sub, so my expectations were off. I am powering these speakers with 140 watts per speaker, the more power you send the better they sound!
Installed in the ceiling of covered front porch. These speakers sound great and really fill the open space with full, rich sound. Simple installation with cutout templates provided.
I installed a pair of these in walls over the weekend, considering I'm a life time loud speaker guy a good in wall was a must, I will say that I am pleasantly surspised with the overall sound field produced by these speakers, they install in minutes and I'd highly recommend them.
I purchased two pairs of the Polk RC80i speakers. I am using them for my front and surround speakers. I have them installed in a cathederal ceiling in a large room amd they fill the room with lifelike sound. They were easily installed using the provided template.
When I read reviews on other sites they mentioned lack of bass. Not sure what they were looking for as I think these speakers provide plenty of bass. I have these in my living room and they sound great.

Dynamic Balance Technology: Dynamic Balance drivers are used for wide, smooth response and low distortion.
Woofers: Each speaker features an 8" Dynamic Balance, mineral-filled polypropylene woofer for clean midrange and deep, accurate bass. For a smoother response and improved durability, each woofer uses a rubber surround.
Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 1" Dynamic Balance, metalized soft dome tweeter in a ball-and-socket swivel mount. The aimable tweeters give you direct high-frequency control, resulting in excellent imaging even for off-axis listening positions.
Infinite Baffle Tuning: Infinite Baffle Tuning uses the virtual enclosure of in-wall space for superior bass response.
Moisture-resistant: Durable, moisture-resistant materials allow you to install the speakers in bathrooms, kitchens, even under the eaves of an enclosed porch. (The speaker is not recommended for exposed outdoor use.)
Installation: The round shape and flush-design allow the RC80i to mimic the look of a recessed lighting fixture. Each speaker requires a cutout of 9.375" and a mounting depth of 3.25". Each speaker frame has a diameter of 10.685". Once the holes are cut, each speaker can be dropped in and the Rotating Cams can be tightened, allowing you to secure each speaker to the drywall without any extra assembly. If you will not be mounting these speakers in drywall, make sure the wall or ceiling material can safely support the weight of the speakers before installation; each speaker weighs approximately 4.5 pounds.
Paintable: The grille and flange can be painted, allowing these speakers to match any decor.

I have a home under construction and I was looking for a good set of in-ceiling speakers that didn't break the bank. Crutchfield had the Polk Audio RC80i's on sale for $99/pair, which is a great value considering they are normally $149/pair. They have better than average freq. response (35hz - 20khz) and good sensitivity at 90dB and they will handle the 95 watts rms @ 8 ohms that my Onkyo receiver puts out. Thanks for a Great Buy Crutchfield. Happy Customer!!! Can't wait to hear them! [ Mr. Dec 14, 2015 ]

Great sound for the price; tweeter can be aimed to optimize sound over the primary sound field. Installed a pair in the ceiling for a recent kitchen remodel and they provide great sound over entire 12'x28' space. [ Jeffrey Dec 08, 2015 ]
They are ceiling mounted. Typical sheet rock/drywall materials. 12-foot ceiling height. Used the Crutchfield foam baffles to keep the attic insulation from falling into the backs of the cones. Been enjoying them for over a year now. Still solid performers. [ Brian Sep 28, 2017 ]
I mounted all these speakers in ceiling between my second and 1st floor. So the enclosure in the 18in between the floor joist. I can tell you these are great speakers with excellent full sound and range. When you push them they bump pretty hard. Install tip do not over tighten them. [ Steven Sep 28, 2017 ]

We have four of them between rafters in our outdoor porch. They can kick out some noise so would recommend some form of insulation. We have used roxual insulation in other parts of our house that works well to dampen noise but to be honest we didn't for the speakers because they were outdoors. [ Nicholas Jul 14, 2017 ]

Of course you can. Maybe just an 8 ohm bass only speaker of the same size maybe more appropriate since you have separate tweeter RW [ ROBERTO Jan 20, 2017 ]
my ceiling speakers are all at different lengths. I did not see an issue [ Richard Apr 09, 2016 ]
Think not, input travels at the speed of light to the speaker. Should be ok unless speakers are in different solar systems. [ DALE Apr 08, 2016 ]
Length doesn't matter as long as you have the speakers connected from source to the speaker. I bought a pair and love them. They sound excellent! [ MARK Apr 08, 2016 ]
I'm happy to help. I bought 4 Spks 2 years ago. Working very good at 30x50 ft. 10 ft ceiling. I think you should get 8 Spks. Installing 2 rows. Sound very good. You can get 6 Spks then you can turn volum up more. I hope this can help you. [ Tam Nov 05, 2015 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: These speakers are not a perfect voice match to the CSiA6 center channel speaker. The Polk in-ceiling RT series speakers are a match for your center channel speaker. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. yes, we have in a few instances [ Daniel Aug 24, 2015 ]
I would think the weight of any speaker would pull through a ceiling tile. I think I'd look into using speaker brackets and wiring those up to something that can support the weight. Then there would be a plastic ring just on the other side of the ceiling tile to mount to. [ ERIC Aug 24, 2015 ]
Yes, not an issue. I have them in my basement with suspended ceiling (drop ceiling). They sound absolutely amazing with crisp sound. I couldn't be happier with this set of speakers. [ Nick Aug 24, 2015 ]
Yes [ JOSHUA Aug 24, 2015 ]
Shari, the speakers come with all the gear to mount them into the wall. All you have to do is cut a hole with the template. There are no exterior brackets [ SCOTT D Jun 09, 2015 ]
They DO NOT. I really didn't need them. They come with a template to cut your hole. Once you have done this you and have wired then you push the speaker up into the ceiling. The hole is smaller than the flange. You then turn 4 tabs with a screw driver from below and tighten. Slip on the metal grill cover and you are good to go. If by chance you are mounting outside on an overhang I would suggest you spray paint the grill and flange with a good out door paint to match. I had a previous pair that rusted. I did this as a prevention on the replacements. Hope this helps. They really are good speakers and fairly priced. [ JAMES S Jun 08, 2015 ]
Yes, they do! [ WILLIAM Jun 08, 2015 ]
No [ WILLIAM Jun 07, 2015 ]
No, you need to purchase the pre construction brackets separately. [ KENNETH Jun 07, 2015 ]
no they have a template for the hole to cut but have a bracket built into speaker that mounts them to drywall [ AL Jun 07, 2015 ]
You guys are awesome!! I guess I can pull this thread now. Thx a bunch heap!!! M [ Sportsman550 Jan 20, 2015 ]
I replaced Bic Speakers with the Polk. They are exactly the same. Probably both made at the same place in China. Who knows? Anyway, I still have the Bics and I just measured them. They were an exact match so my cut out was the same and perfect. The diameter of the white ring around the speaker is 10 and 3.4ths inches and the diameter of the slip in grill that covers the speaker is 9 and 1/8 inch. Hope this helps. By the way, I am using these outside at house overhang near swimming pool. Using a Onkyo AV Receiver about 120 watts. Works fine. Think my cut out was 9.5 inchs. [ JAMES S Jan 19, 2015 ]
Thanks brother!, that's what I needed [ Sportsman550 Jan 19, 2015 ]
O/D of the grill is 10.5". [ STEVE Jan 18, 2015 ]
Never replace an inwall with a smaller one. You may get vibration or distortion from air pass through. It way better to buy a speaker with a slightly larger diameter even though you may have to enlarge the hole. [ George Jan 18, 2015 ]
The weight of the speaker can cause sag issues with the ceiling tile, but they make brackets that span 24" (typical ceiling tile dimension that support the weight across the span from metal track to metal track. Let me explain better, the "bracket" is a flat metal plate with a hole that will allow the speaker to slip thru while holding the speakersecurely in place. To see what the brackets look like search " drop ceiling speaker bracket" under any search engine and it should show images. [ GEORGE Jan 11, 2015 ]
i dont know the answer to this--my speakers were installed in a wall-not a ceiling [ PHIL Jan 02, 2015 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The Polk RC series speakers do not voice match any other series. You should get another RC80i to use for the center channel speaker. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy Sep 04, 2014 ] Staff
They are indoor speakers, but it shouldn't be a problem being under a covered porch. Only make sure the porch roof has no moisture coming through. Enjoy! [ MARIO L Aug 21, 2014 ]
We put them in a little over a year ago in boxed in eaves on our back deck that is exposed to some pretty severe weather conditions here in central Oregon. We get both below freezing temps during the winter and above 90 in the summer and they have performed well and sound great! No problems. [ WILLIAM Aug 18, 2014 ]
Yes as long as not heavy moisture. I put them in my bathroom ceiling so they can handle some moisture. Nice speakers too by the way. [ Doug Aug 17, 2014 ]
I have used these speakers in my basement. However, as per product specifications it is constructed of durable, moisture-resistant materials for use in bathrooms, saunas, or under outdoor eaves. [ SANJAY Aug 17, 2014 ]
Sound for these are amazing... Don't know about the weather concerns you have but in az I would have no problem trusting these for at least 4-5 years [ BRADLEY Aug 17, 2014 ]
Yes that's where mine are. And awesome! [ LUIS Aug 17, 2014 ]
The speakers do not need to be installed as pairs as there is no left or right speaker. Having said that, I'm assuming that you will be using a monaural signal, otherwise the sound will be off. I used this pair in my kitchen ceiling, but found that I needed to supplement the bass with a subwoofer to get the deep sound that I wanted. The treble and midrange is excellent, for an overall sound that is good. If you want deep bass without adding a subwoofer, you may want to chose a different speaker. [ John May 08, 2014 ]
Then your room would not be in stereo and would give a mono sound output [ BRAD May 08, 2014 ]
You could do just one speaker per room but you'll lose the "stereo" effect. So, if the vocal is coming out of the left speaker because of the way the music was recorded, then you won't hear it in the room with the right speaker (unless you can tell your receiver to send "mono" or one signal carrying both the left and right signals). Most of the time what you're looking to do will sound ok, but with music and movies it's unlikely to be great. [ CASEY May 07, 2014 ]
We bought the rc80i by mistake - they do need to be put up in pairs. We intended to get and did get the MC80 which are individual speakers which sound great on their own. I would recommend them. [ BILL May 07, 2014 ]
No they can be set up as one. But of course it would sound way better as pairs. Good luck mine sound amazing. [ LUIS May 07, 2014 ]
I mounted mine in 5/8 drywall, I am sure they would work in 3/4. [ BRET A May 08, 2014 ]
Yes. As the previous reviewer answered, there are 4 long mounting screws that use a rotating cam to pull the speaker to the wall/ceiling. I used these speakers on 5/8 inch drywall. 3/4 inch should be no problem. [ John May 08, 2014 ]
Yes, the screw mounts are adjustable. [ CLEVELAND May 08, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: I think that would be a great addition to your home! A lot of our customers use those speakers for that application. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy Mar 28, 2014 ] Staff
The backside of the speaker will be exposed so you will want to keep any insulation off of the speaker. [ THOMAS Mar 19, 2014 ]
yes, i use cheap plastic shower caps to cover the speakers(cut little hole for speaker wire to get thru. hope you find this helpful [ JOHN Feb 18, 2014 ]
we also have blown in insulation and what we did is cleared the insulation away and put a little plywood box over the area just to make it safe but it doesn't seem like it would hurt to have the insulation on speaker. [ WILLIAM Feb 18, 2014 ]
When I installed both of my speakers I cleared the blown insulation away from the speakers. I didn't want to take a chance on the insulation messing up the speakers [ MARK Feb 18, 2014 ]
My install was in new construction. I put 2x4s on either side of the speaker from rafter to rafter and then screwed a piece of plywood over the top before blowing in insulation. I was a little worried about the insulation packing down inside the speaker and affecting the performance. [ THOMAS Feb 17, 2014 ]
Not sure. I used foam insulation. Better contact polk [ Doug Feb 17, 2014 ]
I'd recommend using speaker baffles no only for protection, peace of mind and sound quality. http://www.crutchfield.com/g_762/Foam-Speaker-Baffles.html [ MARIO L Feb 17, 2014 ]
I would recommend some sort of barrier like a speaker baffles. Not only is there a protection element, but peace of mind. The benefit also, is that sound quality is improved with putting covers on. An alternative is using tupperware dishes deep enough to cover the exposed back side. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_237XT55/XTC-5-1-4-Speaker-Baffles-3-3-4-depth.html?tp=2809 [ MARIO L Feb 17, 2014 ]
Yes. I haven't noticed anything abnormal with sound quality. This is a very good speaker for the money! [ ANDRE L Feb 17, 2014 ]
Hmm. Crutchfield sent this to me, but it should be answered by the manufacturer. I would think that, since speakers move, they shouldn't have blown in insulation surrounding them. [ JEFFREY Feb 17, 2014 ]
EIther would work, really more about the distance from the stereo not the size of the speaker. [ ROBERT M Jan 16, 2014 ]
Depends on the length of the cable. We are using 16 to cover about 20 foot lengths. Beyond that, I would use 14. [ CURT V Jan 13, 2014 ]
I believe I used 16 ga in wall rated. I will double ck when I get home from work today. [ THOMAS A Jan 13, 2014 ]
I'm pretty sure I have 16 gauge wire for all of my speakers. Works just fine. [ JEFFREY Jan 13, 2014 ]
I used 16 gauge and they sound great! [ CLINT Jan 13, 2014 ]
yes you can use 16 gauge wire but if you are running long distance then you better off using 14 gauge. [ ASMA Jan 12, 2014 ]
According to the crutchfield website, if you're less than 50' you can use 16 gauge wire unless you have high end equipment and want to improve sound. [ CHRISTOPHER K Jan 12, 2014 ]
Yes. The lower the gauge the better (generally), but 16 gauge should work perfectly unless you're running it further than 25 feet. [ CASEY Jan 12, 2014 ]
