Audiophile-quality sound from a great-looking tower

Polk Audio RTi A9 Tower Speaker

Enjoy exceptional performance with Polk's RTi A9 tower speakers (shown in black)

Meet the flagship speaker in Polk's newly redesigned RTi Series. The RTi A9 floor-standing tower speaker combines a handsome, real wood veneer finish with the kind of performance that pleases even critical listeners.

This speaker's carefully designed drivers undergo laser testing to help identify and eliminate resonance points, ensuring smooth, accurate response. Its asymmetric cabinet helps it deliver rich, clear sound by combating vibration and increasing rigidity.

The A9 also includes Polk's exclusive PowerPort® technology that reduces noisy air turbulence and increases low-frequency output. You'll enjoy clear highs, rich bass, and open, natural-sounding midrange.

Additional high-end features

Two sets of gold-plated five-way binding posts let you biamp or biwire the RTi A9 for the best possible sound. An anti-diffraction grille helps it deliver a large, three-dimensional soundstage with pinpoint-accurate stereo imaging. Adjustable spikes provide stability on both carpeted and hardwood floors.

Complete your surround system

For best performance, pair the RTi A9 towers with our recommended center channel speaker: Polk CSi A6  and surround speakers: Polk RTi A3 or FXi A6.

Upgraded my Polk RT2000p's. Still a great powered tower for Movies. The A9's are better in all ways. Fit and Finish, Detail, and controlled depth. The only thing to remember is this will need a dedicated amp. no receiver running 7 speakers will do well with the power they require.

    Driver Technology

Dynamic Balance: Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion.

Polymer Composite Woofers: The speaker features three 7" polymer composite woofers. Three 7" woofers have the surface area of a single large woofer with the low mass and acceleration of small woofers, resulting in tighter, more accurate bass response. Each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Polymer Composite Midranges: The speaker has two 5-1/4" polymer composite midranges for smooth wide-range response with low distortion. For high performance durability, each midrange uses a butyl rubber surround.

Silk/Polymer Tweeter: The speaker has a single 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter that provides clear, detailed highs. The tweeter features mylar bypass capacitors in the crossovers to extend high frequency response and improve detail and transparency. The tweeter also features low viscosity ferro-fluid cooling with a heat sink on the Neodymium magnet for superior heat dissipation, power handling and reliability.

Magnetically Shielded: The speakers are magnetically shielded, allowing you to place them near your television without distorting the picture.

    Enclosure Design

Damped Asymmetric Hex Laminate (DAHLI) Cabinet Design: All-MDF construction with massive asymmetric cabinet bracing ensures a resonance-free enclosure for accurate sound. The asymmetric design is made from a 6-layer laminate with 5 viscous layers to create the optimal shear damping (OSD) system. The elegant styling aside, curved cabinets not only result in a stronger, more rigid and acoustically inert enclosure, but the curved walls also produce less audible coloration from panel resonances.

Power Port Venting System: The speaker has a rear-firing Power Port venting system built into its back plate for precise deep bass response from the floor-standing speaker's three 7" polymer composite woofers. This venting system allows air velocity to slow gradually, vastly reducing air turbulence, and delivering greater bass efficiency than conventional ports.

Note: The two 5-1/4" midrange drivers feature a sealed cabinet.

Anti-Diffraction Grilles: The floating anti-diffraction grilles minimize grille diffraction for spacious, 3-dimensional imaging.

Dual 5-Way Binding Posts: The speaker has two sets of gold-plated 5-way binding posts connected by gold-plated jumpers. Using the dual 5-way binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers.

    Mounting Options

Adjustable Leveling Spike Feet: The adjustable leveling spike feet that can be screwed onto the bottom of the speaker's attached base provide stability on any type of flooring. The spike feet adds approximately 0.875" to the speaker's overall height when screwed all the way in.

    Specifications & Dimensions

Frequency Response: The overall frequency response is 18Hz-27kHz and the -3dB frequency response is 30-26kHz.

Width: The main body of the speaker is 8.6875" wide but the speakers attached feet extend beyond each side of the speaker, giving the speaker and overall width of 10.6875".

    Almost Perfect

Written by James, IT Programmer/Analyst 2, on 6/26/2012 10:18:00 AM

Let me start by saying I love these loudspeakers, they sound GREAT! I've used the Polk RTi A9's as my main left and right for about a year, and after a short break-in period they really came out. Music sounds fantastic. The sound stage sets the musicians realistically. They're very clear and concise, I've heard more detail from my CDs than ever before.

I use my A9's mostly for home theater and they shine with matched speakers. Mine are set up with the voice-matched CSI A6 center and FXI A6 surrounds. The effects seamlessly envelope me. I like my movie sound loud and detailed, so I'm in it. These do that job superbly. Did I say I loved these speakers yet?

As many customer reviews have also stated, the A9's need power. A lot of power. They still sounded good when I drove them off of a 7.1 Onkyo receiver at 110 watts, but the lows suffered some. When I bi-amped them the lows came out and really started to hit. I think these speakers would gain even more from more power and a separate powerful amp (they can take 500 watts!).

The cabinets are very nice and the cherry color blends in well in my living room. These speakers are big, they do have a dominating presence which I love but, unfortunately, my wife doesn't. They are also very heavy, so moving them around is kind of a pain, but it's a good sign of the quality of their build.

    Positives: Clear, detailed, loud.

Not So Positives: Wife appreciation factor, need a whole lot of power to make them really shine.

    Why did you buy this?

To my amateur estimation these are the best speakers to my Kenwood 9600 Receiver and beside of this you give the great discount. [ Mark  Jun 17, 2017 ]
I have Polk Speakers. I needed to upgrade and these were on sale for some odd reason. [ Rodney  Jun 07, 2017 ]
Time to upgrade the RT2000p's that have been so good to me for 16 years. Polk is a great way to enjoy Music and Movies. [ Mark  May 21, 2017 ]
    They're a badass versitile speaker [ james  May 21, 2017 ]
I currently have the AT15 Cerwin Vega floor standing speakers which are 18 years old. These speaker could deliver some hard pounding base but its time for something more slim but could pack a punch. I am hoping that i would be happy with these speaker again read the reviews and its was positive. [ Judy  May 22, 2016 ]
I like the well balanced, warm and natural sound of Polk speakers. The Rti A9's are rated at 500 watts each and my amplifiers are rated at 450 watts each so it was a good match. The Rti A9's re well built and absolutly beautiful in the cherry. I have them crossed over at 60 Htz and they sound amazing. Give them plenty of power and they will shine!! [ Steven  Mar 16, 2017 ]

Have been in the market for some nice powerful speakers for a while but haven't seen a 5-star average until now. Hope they don't disappoint! [ Eric  Jun 03, 2016 ]
Read ALL of the reviews onlie at different websites. Also a co-worker has a pair of these. And....Polk has a great rep. I absolutly LOVE these speakers!!!! [ Friederika  May 27, 2016 ]
I love Polk speakers. I have a pair of RTi A7 speakers as part of my home theater. For my Stereo setup I wanted something a little bigger, but with the same Polk sound. [ Laurie  May 08, 2016 ]

    5 questions already asked

If you're using this speaker for music 75% or more of the time, then no. If you're watching a fair number of movies, then I'd look for a sub with at least a 10 inch subwoofer. [ Kwang  Oct 28, 2015 ]
    No but I am not a subwoofer fan [ ZEV  Oct 17, 2015 ]
That depends on how mauch bass you want. These speakers are very powerfull and have great Bass without losing the clarity. I feel when I'm watching a movie with surround sound, these speakers need a bass. But when your listening to music the bass these speakers have is enough. [ Daury  Oct 07, 2015 ]
I don't think so. I listen to 70's and 80's rock, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, etc. I also listen to more modern stuff like Saving Able, Theory of a Deadman, Hinder etc. and the bass is plenty for me. The vocals are incredible from these speakers. I'm using an older Yamaha HTR-5890 with the "B" speaker output bi-amping the woofers. I know, it's not a true bi-amp, but it sounds awesome! [ PAUL  Oct 07, 2015 ]
Mark, I listen to Jazz and to classic 60-80 Rock. I do have a sealed Velodyne sub from my Magneplanar days but I find I rarely use it with the A9's. I power them with a pair of 250 watt mono blocks and they sound great. [ Robert  Oct 06, 2015 ]
These are full range speakers, so you don't have to have one. I have these, but also use a subwoofer for theater sound. These are awesome speakers tho. [ JAMES  Oct 06, 2015 ] had alot of bass already, so i don't think you need one [ Khanh  Oct 06, 2015 ]
Dont think it's necessary, but these speakers like to be pushed so I would [ LEONARD  May 27, 2016 ]
I will not be able to answer that question because I have them paired with a Marantz. [ Phillip  Mar 29, 2016 ]
