    Polk Audio Soundbar 3000

Keith from North Carolina on 12/16/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've owned this sound bar for almost a year and a half now. I originally bought it to go with my Dell plasma which has terrible speakers. It's a great product that produces the quality sound and deep bass (perfect for this room size) that the previous Dell and current Samsung could never produce. Like others, I was also impressed by how it is easily controlled by my TV and cable box remotes. I also got it for 50% off. I wish I had bought two at that price! Pros: Sound for money, remote control integration Cons: None

    Pros: Great sound/bass Easy setup

Cons: No blue tooth - but at this price, cable connections are not a problem.

As some others have stated I also get this Loud popping sound that happens every 5 to 10 minutes. Very disappointed in this purchase.

    Polk Audio Sound Bar 3000

Mark from New Hampshire on 11/1/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Quite impressive sound for as small a unit as it is. Easily gave me all I needed for the size of the room it, and the TV are in. HOWEVER... I'm now on the second unit, which I will be returning, as for the second time, it "died" on me. I lost all sound from the unit after I FF'ed through a commercial on a show I recorded on my DVR. It's occurred previously but came back after a time (sometimes it took more than an hour) after shutting off the unit, but not now. Note, it does not happen when using the audio on the TV, just with the sound bar. Is this an inherent design flaw in all these units or just the Polk? I've found no reference one way or the other. As I said, impressive sound and I'm familiar with the Polk brand for otherwise good quality audio, but this "glitch" or whatever, is most disappointing.

Pros: Very good quality sound, especially for it's size.

Cons: Apparent design flaw where sound is lost after FF'ing through some show recorded.

the polk sound bar helps clarify often mumbling talk on tv shows, but, although worth the price, doesn't add as much as i had hoped.

Great sound for a soundbar. It is not a 5.1 system but has nice sound and is a great improvement over your flat panels speakers.I bought for my Dad and he has a smaller family room and it is amazing on the sound that comes from this system.Polk won't let you down. Thanks Crutchfield

Pros: Very nice sound-you will be surprised

    Cons: none

Great sound, easy to use I do not use stereo surround any longer

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound! Easy to use! I no longer use the expensive home stereo surround theater any longer, which by-the-way does not sound as good; to the Cave it goes!

Pros: easy connection, wireless subwoofer beats the one I used previously

Cons: I tried to use it as an auxiliary for my XM portable, and my wireless speakers through-out my house, I couldn't get sound due to wireless speakers requiring auxiliary connection, I tried a 2:1 aux connector, no luck, could be me?

    Great product

Good entry level sound bar. Limited connections, much better than TV speakers. Lacks tru or simulated surround. For the price was well worth it.

Pros: decent sound for casual movie viewing. Decent upgrade for TV speakers.Priced right.

    Cons: small remote. Lacks HDMI.

    Dave B. from Lindenhurst, N.Y. on 4/4/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Only two complaints. Patch cord for RCA plugs was a very low quality. Mounting template for soundbar was not actual size. Would have been a great help. Otherwise sound is great, sub woofer excellent

Pros: Easy to get connected and working. Wireless Sub woofer makes using it a breeze. Remote very useful also.

Cons: Need full size template to make wall mounting easier.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It fits very well in front of the TV. Easy to set up. It look very nice don't really notice it is there

Pros: There is not much of an improvement. One reason that I may not have seen much of an audio improvement is I have have a high end LG SMART TV??

Cons: The audio improvement is only 10% over TV speakers. I can not tell much Bass at all even if I have max Bass setting. The polk remote must be used for Bass setting. I have Direct TV and the Direct TV remote can be programed to control the sound bar if your TV does not Use a" Wand" remote, my LG has a "Wand remote, therefore I can't prg the Direct TV remote.

    Kevin from PA on 4/2/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just what I needed to upgrade from the cruddy on board speakers on my Samsung 35 inch LED TV. Only disputing thing that is keeping my review from being 5 stars is the fact the into does not program right to work with my DirecTV remote or the Samsung TV remote. Other than that little nuisance this is a great little sound bar and wireless sub woofer setup.

Pros: Ease of setup, great sound

    Polk Sound Bar

    Alan from Laplata on 4/2/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Has a real nice sound as one would expect. Easy to hook up. One problem was programming my tv remote to the sound bar. Had to call crutchfield, they did not have the answer. Called polk audio and out I could not use my Direct tv universal remote. It had to be a samsung ir(infra red) remote. I used my samsung blue ray player remote, as my samsung tv remote sent only radio frequencies and not ir.

    Pros: Great sub woofer.

Cons: Can't control subwoofer with tv remote.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Purchased after comparing similar models, couldn't pass on the price and quality. Connections were perfect for first gen 1080i projection tv. Sub is what was really needed however the soundbar does have decent ranges considering what it is.

Pros: Great levels high and low for size and price- for medium to small room.

Cons: Not surround by any means- blue tooth would be nice.

Been looking for a soundbar for a long time but never pull the trigger thinking it was not going to perform as expected. I was all wrong. This entry level soundbar blows my mind away. Can't wait to check other high end models. Put this one in my bedroom and really satisfied. Also, you can't go wrong with Crutchfield and Polk Audio.

Have it hooked up in a medium size room and sounds great. Tremendously helped with the sound quality of my Samsung LED TV. I can't say it truly is like having 5 surround speaker around you but it overall is very good.

Pros: Great quality for the price. The Polk Audio sound is great. Set up is easy.

Cons: Not the same as true surround with multiple speaker.

    Awesome sound bar

Rob from Reno, NV on 3/29/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have 3 of these sound bar, they sound great for the money. night and day difference compared to the TV's built in speaker. I wish the subwoofer was wired instead of being wireless for 2 reasons, 1st the sub needs to be close to the soundbar and tv for best sound so wireless is pointless and 2nd the sub being wireless will pick up signal interference so you have to constantly change frequency.

Pros: great sound bar with decent bass when it's on sale. Easy remote programing.

Cons: Power on light is too bright and wireless interference, sometimes the sub will make a thumping sound on its own even when everything's off. The wife thought our house was possesed and one night I though there was a burglar up in the attic until i figured it was the sub making all those noises..

    Polk Audio SoundBar 3000

    Gayg1 from Mullica Hill,NJ on 3/29/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit for my bedroom because I wanted a sound bar with a sub woofer. It worked fine, but then I experienced a constant rumbling sound from the sub woofer. I contacted Crutchfield customer service who instructed me to change channels on the back of the sub woofer which fixed the problem. They responded to me in less than a day. By the way this unit was on sale which gave me the impetus to purchase it.

Pros: Great sound for a smaller TV and room.

Cons: You may have to adjust sub woofer channel if you have a problem, but Crutchfield is happy to work with you.

    OK Sound

Ray D from Buffalo, NY on 3/28/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed to upgrade the sound on our LCD Tv so I got the sound bar with wireless sub from Polk. To be honest it's best for Blue Ray movies and music channels but for TV shows I usually turn off the sub because it just doesn't sound right-distortion of low tones or unusual sounds from the sub. If I knew all this before hand I probably would have purchased a different system but for the price it's ok. I've owned Polk electronics before so I purchased this system based on my past experiences. I'm somewhat disappointed because I can't use the whole system all the time.

Pros: Easy to set up. Nice sounds with the right programs.

Cons: Make sure your digital optical supports PCN only it doesn't work with Dolby Surround. Sub sounds distorted with certain programs.

    Getting DirecTV Remote Working

Neil from Burbank, CA on 3/21/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I see a lot of reviews saying it wont work with the DirecTV remote, there is an easy fix. Program it using the remote your tv came with! The directv remote has a weird delay built in, that's why it will not program correctly. The DTV remote is already setup for your tv, so use your stock remote and program the polk unit and the directv remote will control the vol up/down mute and power options just fine.

Pros: Good sound, 2.1 setup is easy and sounds fine with movies and games and really shines with music. Sub works great for me, turn on tune in and drop out.

Cons: Unit is taller than I thought it was going to be and couldn't be placed in front on the same surface my tv sits on, luckily I had more room below and also mounting options if I desired.

Easy setup until I got to the part that says you can program your DTV remote with no problem. The directions say to use the learn button on sound bar then the up volume on sound bar but says nothing and I mean nothing about that you have to program each button on the remote separately ;(

I ordered on line and delivery was exceptionally fast. I placed the sound bar in front of our 65" TV without obstructing the view. The sound is great and enhances the programs, feels like we are in the stadium watching football.

I like the System But I find the Tweeter or high frequency sound is a little over bearing to the Mid range. It works fine for me but the wife is not fond of the system. If a women talking it seem to have a hissing or lisps and It drives her nuts. Seeing I got it for her Xmas Not sure I can keep it. I have It hooked up to a New Samson 32"

    Pros: Set up is easy

Cons: Tweeter or high frequency sound is a little over bearing to the Mid range

Best soundbar I found for the money

    bmountains from PA on 1/17/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I gave it 5 stars because for the money, there are not any others I've found with a separate bluetooth sub - no wiring required to the sub. Worked great - no brainer to hook up. And it's Polk audio so the sound is really good for a small to medium room. It is not a 500+ dollar system and will not fill a huge room. But the sound is clear and pretty loud. Extremely happy with the purchase.

Pros: Easy set up, great sound, good looks, good volume - plenty loud for a small to medium room

    Cons: None for the price

    Great for the price!

Greggo from Sugar Land, TX on 1/14/2013

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read several positive reviews about this product before purchasing. I have it installed in my bedroom, and it is more than enough sound! I was completely surprised at the sound, and the excellent bass response from this set up. For the price, it is hard to beat. I have had $2K systems in my home for listening to music and movies. But for the price, this cannot be beat. The set up was extremely easy. I mounted the speaker bar on the bottom of my wall mounted 51" Samsung TV. It looks great and sounds fantastic.

Pros: Size and the sound you get from it....

Cons: not many that I have found

In my experience, Polk has always come through with outstanding quality. This SoundBar is no exception.

Pros: *Quality of construction. *Ease of assembly. *Size, its "fit"/unobtrusive size. *Manner in which it makes skinny LCD's have decent audio *Price is exceptionally good for such quality.

Cons: SoundBars in this price range are not the be all end all. If your looking for a home theater, get one.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did a lot a research for a new sound bar for our 46 LG and the Polk 3000 stood out as the best choice because of it's versitility and ease of installation. Very happy with the clarity and the wireless sub is great. The remote is a great option, although I have yet to use the learn function, it appears easy to do. It is nice to turn off the sound bar and use the speakers from tv.

Pros: Easy to set up, looks great, sounds even better. Seperate volumes for bar and sub with a learnable remote. Great price.

    Issues with sub woofer

Jared from Lambertville, NJ on 11/15/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The subwoofer constantly starts making popping sounds and sounds like winding is blowing on a microphone. No matter how close we put it to the bar it always seems to get some sort of interference. I regret buying this. Total waste of money since my wife constantly turns off the sub due to the noise it creates and without it it really sounds no different than our television speakers.

Pros: Sounds good when it works

Cons: Sub woofer has serious issues and is a constant problem

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this product after rerearchimg for several months on a system for my theater room in my basement. I finally pulled the trigger on this system for a couple of reasons. First was the technology and reputation that Polk has. Then was the price. I feel like I got a deal. That's a win win situation. Overall you won't be dissipointed with the quality. Movies and Music sound incredible in my mancave. My wife and dog were literally blown away by the thump of the bass while watching a action movie.

Pros: Great Sound Good Price Fast Shipping 1 day shipping to my area. Easy set up a novice could do it. Few wires

Cons: I have no complaints. For the price that I paid I'm very happy. The sound is not over powering.

The first Polk sound bar I received did not work. Subwoofer was dead on arrival. The replacement worked for about a month before the sub started poping on and off. Do not buy this product. There is no quality control on this product and it shows. Replaced it with a Yamaha sound bar that is fantastic!!!

    Pros: None

Cons: Plenty--No quality control and High price!!!

Easy setup. Attached sound bar to cabinet above the TV. The Direct TV remote and TV remote were easy to program to work the sound bar. The sound is a definite improvement to the tv speakers. Still working on the subwoofer adjustment. During some tv broadcasts it seems to give a continuous hum at times. Other times it acts normally.

    Pros: Easy setup, good sound

    Cons: subwoofer??

Lana from Bremerton, WA on 7/14/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After having an old Panasonic surround sound with the 4 external speakers, big sound subwoofer, and a many setting for TV, Movie, TV, Panarama, Hall, Music, and many other selections, I am a little dissapointed, for this is not true surround. I have a new Sony 55" Bravia TV, and the sound from that is almost equal. The only reason I wanted to change is because the old Panasonic had wires to the sub, and was also a DVD player (not blu-ray) and wanted to get a better picture quality using HDMI cables and optical. It had a headphone jack, this does not, nor does the TV.

Pros: Has HDMI & optical capabilities to better picture quality.

Cons: Not tru surround for movies.

    Improvement Over TV Speakers

RyanC from Fairfield, FL on 7/10/2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The system delivers nice sound. We don't have a good room for wired surround speakers, so the wireless sub next to the couch is just right. I am disappointed that our TV does not output audio from broadcast HDTV to the optical out, but that is no fault of the speaker system. I could use the headphone jack on the TV for one of the other inputs on the soundbar, but that would involve switching input selections frequently. I love being able to program the sound bar for my tv remote.

Pros: Decent sound, programmable to existing remote, wireless subwoofer, easy wall mounting, 3 inputs

Cons: Not true surround sound, a little pricey maybe

Easy to set up and sounds great. Since we use Directv it was necessary to program using the tv remote but it was no problem.

Pros: Easy set up. Wireless sub adds real depth to sound. Multiple source input allows iPod / iPhone to play through also.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this soundbar several months ago and my initial impression was very good. I wanted to "let the new wear off " before submitting my feedback. Now that I have had it for a while I can honestly say that it greatly exceeds my expectations. What I wanted was to bolster the sound quality of my 34" flat screen without spending a lot of money on a full blown surround sound system. The setup was straight forward and the operation is very intuitve and user friendly. I especially apprecate the lack of external speakers other than the wireless sub. If you want to watch Top Gun and get the absolute realism of a theater you may want to consider something else. But for my pursposes it is perfect. It also does a great job with music CD's played through my DVD. Best 300 bucks I ever spent on audio exuipment. Oh yeah, delivery was quicker than expecgted and the system is packaged ingeniously and well protected..

Pros: Great sound quality, simple hookup, compact and un obtrusivve with no external wires going to speakers, good price and I got free shipping.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just got my Polk 3000 sound-bar hooked up to my new 60" Sharp and a Direct TV receiver. The Direct guy set it up the remote, all codes work and I can control the sound-bar with the Direct remote except the off and on button, not a big thing. For the size of this thing, the sound is great. Voices are clear and there's just enough bass for my living-room.

Pros: Easy to set up, voices are clear, just enough bass.

Cons: Difficult to set up the Direct TV remote with the sound bar.

Great sound for the living room. Not too overpowering, but will give great sound when playing the AppleTV iTunes music!

Pros: Works with the CableOne (Regional) Cable remote....

Cons: No way to stop the remote from turning up the volume TV and Polk sound bar at the same time. I could "unmemorize" the TV, but then I would need the TV remote to turn it on. Either way, I think I am going to have to use 2 remotes.

    Tom from Oregon on 1/20/2012

THIS WAS AWESOME ADVICE from BillMC.. With respect to the POLK AUDIO system, we're very happy with it. I do wish it could crank up louder for music specials, but for TV it is AWESOME. Again, the advice below is good...One other step I took was to go to the menu function and settings on the Direct TV menu guide. GO TO "remote setup" and programing steps for AV1 - Audio Device - Polk Audio...Code 32270 worked! Awesome - as for the issue of learning volume up and down - This was very frustrating for me also but I did find a solution. Skip the soundbar learn function and simply program AV1/AV2 on your Directv remote with code 32270 which will simulate the original Polk Audio remote. Then lock your Directv volume controls to AV1/AV2 and enjoy. I hope MattW checks back and reads this :)

Pros: Easy to set up, sound quality is very good and volume quite adequate for TV/Movie viewing...

Cons: I do wish the volume could go louder for music entertainment, but it again does wonderful for regular TV viewing.

    Fair, at best

ksm from Abingdon, MD on 5/5/2011

Very disappointed, especially for price. Sound bar sounds no better than 32" TV speakers. Wireless sub is a nice touch, but not incredibly powerful. The amp on mine blew, but Polk was very good about replacing it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After a discussion with a Crutchfield advisor (Vlad) I chose the Polk 3000 soundbar and I am happy I did so. The setup was plug & chug, and I enjoyed cranking up the sound from a major battle scene from Lord of the Rings. The system was sized just right for my space, clear sound, no distortion at upper range.

Great sound, Smarter than the TV

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Use in with a Samsung 50" Plasma. Crutchfield salesman helped me pair the system and was very helpful. Vast improvement over TV speakers. Use in a 14 x 16 room with vaulted ceiling and have great sound. Easy to hook up with optical cable, easy to hang on the wall, matches TV (all black pretty easy to match up). The sound bar learned the Samsung codes so all is controlled from the Samsung remote (easy to do). The only problem is when the TV is on external speakers and the volume button is used, the TV shows a "Not Available" error. Sound bar responds fine. Called Samsung and no fix. Would not recommend pairing up with Samsung. If you want a sound bar, get the sound bar and a different TV. Not premium sound, but far exceeded my expectation, especially with no extra wiring!

For the price this is a good sound system, the sub is good when watching movies but I turn it off when watching regular tv, a lot of "noise" comes through the sub. Another problem, the Polk volumn remote is weak, we use 2 remotes, TV volumn remote works great. Very easy set-up.

MattW from Holly, MI on 11/28/2010

Works very well for a average size living room of 15 x 15. Was able to place the sub any place in the room. I choose to put it in the rear of the room near the couch. The only flaw I can see with this system is that the learn remote feature is limited. I tried to get my direct TV remote to learn how to use the volume, and it would only learn how to turn the volume up. After several attempts of up and down buttons, it still will not learn to move the volume up and down. I will have to buy an additional multi-function remote at around $50.00 to get this to work correctly. Other than that, Polk Audio lives up to its name when discussing actual sound quality, which is simply awesome. Don 't bother with a Bose or other high end expensive sound bar.

    System Features

Instant Home Theater (IHT): The Polk Audio SurroundBar 3000 Instant Home Theater (IHT) is a complete 2.1-channel home theater system comprised of a single self-powered speaker, a wireless powered subwoofer, and an IR remote control. The SurroundBar 3000 IHT utilizes Polk Digital Logic (Polk's Proprietary DSP Technology) to deliver richer, fuller sound (with no rear speakers) to your flat-panel TV from a compact system with no complex hook-up or set-up.

Polk Digital Logic: The SurroundBar 3000 Instant Home Theater utilizes Polk Digital Logic (Polk's proprietary DSP programming) to deliver big, crisp sonic performance with no complicated setup or calibration. Through Polk Digital Logic, the SurroundBar 3000 IHT's sound is created independent of any room boundaries. Polk Digital Logic helps to maintain a solid center channel for clear, intelligible dialogue and Polk's signature warm & full sound.

Self-Powered SurroundBar: The self-powered surroundbar features two 2" x 6" full-range drivers powered by a built-in 50 watt x 2-channel amplifier. The speaker itself is lightweight in part because of the neodymium magnet structures in the drivers. The surroundbar features a black plastic enclosure with non-removable metal grille. The surroundbar can be placed on a tabletop or wall-mounted. It provides analog and digital audio connections to your television. The surroundbar requires AC power.

Wireless Powered Subwoofer: The wireless powered subwoofer features a down-firing 6.5" woofer and down-firing port in a bass-reflex (ported) cabinet. The 6.5" woofer is powered by a built-in 80 watt amplifier. The wireless powered subwoofer receives it audio signal wirelessly from the system's surroundbar, so there is no subwoofer cable to connect. The wireless powered subwoofer requires AC power.

System Controls: The SurroundBar 3000 IHT offers the following system functions - Power, Surroundbar Volume, Subwoofer Volume, Source Selection, and Mute. You can control these functions from the Surroundbar's touch-sensitive controls, included remote control, or your TV's remote control.

Touch-Sensitive Controls: The touch-sensitive buttons on the front of the surroundbar are easy to use.

Remote Control: The included IR wireless remote provides wireless operation of the SurroundBar 3000 IHT.

Programmable TV Remote: You can program the SurroundBar 3000 IHT to respond to your existing TV's remote.

Channel ID: The channel ID switches on the rear-panel of the surroundbar and subwoofer need to be set to the same channel (1-4).

Analog & Digital Connections: The surroundbar features one optical digital input and two stereo 3.5mm inputs to connect the system to your flat-panel TV.

Analog Connections: The surroundbar is equipped with two analog 3.5mm stereo inputs to connect your television (which may lack an optical digital output). If your TV is equipped with stereo RCA outputs, you will need a mini-to-RCA adapter cable. The additional 3.5mm stereo input can be used to connect another audio device, such as your MP3 player.

Digital Connection: The surroundbar also features an optical digital input to connect your flat-panel TV with an optical digital output (optical digital cable included). The surroundbar only supports 2-channel PCM through its optical digital input (not Dolby Digital).

Note: If your television does not support 2-channel PCM through its optical digital output, you will need to connect the SurroundBar 3000 IHT using the analog 3.5mm stereo input.

    Mounting Options

Placement Options: The SurroundBar 3000 Instant Home Theater offers various placement & mounting options for the surroundbar & wireless powered subwoofer.

Surroundbar Placement: The surroundbar should be centered under or above your TV screen. The lightweight easy-to-mount single speaker can be placed on a tabletop or wall-mounted. It can sit on a flat surface because of its attached rubber pads that enable it to rest securely. If your TV is wall-mounted, the surroundbar can be mounted right beneath it using the speaker's integrated keyhole slots (x2) on the rear-panel.

Wireless Subwoofer Placement: The powered subwoofer receives its signal from the surroundbar wirelessly, so it can be placed virtually anywhere in the room (up to 50' from surroundbar). It only requires plugging into an AC outlet.

    Power Requirements

Power Supply: Both the surroundbar and wireless powered subwoofer require an AC outlet connection using the supplied AC power supply and AC power cords.

Auto Power: When their master power switches are left on, the amplifiers in both the surroundbar and subwoofer turn on automatically when the surroundbar receives an audio signal. Both amplifiers turn off after approximately 15 minutes without an audio signal.
