Our take on the Polk Audio TSx110B

Polk Audio's TSx110B bookshelf speakers are small enough to fit comfortably into just about any room — but thanks to Polk's high-tech design approach, they still pack a big punch. Each enclosure houses a 1" silk/polymer dome tweeter for smooth, shimmering highs, plus a 5-1/4" Dynamic Balance® woofer for clear, natural-sounding mids and bass. They're a great pick for stereo listening in a den or bedroom or for use as surround speakers in a home theater system.

Rev up your system with punchy, dynamic Polk sound

Polk Audio's TSx110B bookshelf speakers are small enough to fit comfortably into just about any room — but thanks to Polk's high-tech design approach, they still pack a big punch. They're a great pick for stereo listening in a den or bedroom or for use as surround speakers in a home theater system.

Designed and built for exceptional performance

Polk carefully builds the TSx-series speakers using advanced manufacturing techniques and high-quality materials — they put a lot into them so you get a lot out of them. Each one boasts Polk's exclusive Dynamic Balance® drivers — a bi-laminate design of fiber-infused polymers sandwiched together to form a strong yet highly efficient lightweight cone for natural, low-distortion sound. Polk puts these advanced drivers through extensive testing to find and eliminate resonance points, ensuring that everything you listen to sounds clean and accurate.

Polk also paid special attention to the TSx crossovers, using a high-performance design with premium parts like Mylar bypass capacitors to deliver smooth and extended high-frequency details. Even the enclosures contribute to great sound. Their attractive cabinets use non-resonant MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) and non-parallel curved side panels to create a rigid, acoustically inert structure that effectively reduces audible coloration.

    Great sounding speakers

Jason from White Lake, MI on 6/8/2017

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers to be the main speakers for my living room stereo. They fill the room with great sound. I have them placed in the side shelf "cubby holes" in my entertainment stand and they are only about 18 inches off the ground. I was worried that I wouldn't get good projection of the mids and highs from their less than optimal position, but they sound fantastic. I have the bass supplemented with a sub-woofer, but frankly, they deliver pretty good bass on their own, especially for a 5 inch woofer. They also have no problem handling the 70 watts of power that my amplifier puts out. The cabinets are solidly built.

Pros: Great sound, good bass, good power handling.

    Cons: None

    Solid bookshelf speakers

    Great little speakers!

Jim from High Ridge, MO on 11/28/2016

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These Polk TSx110B's are great little speakers! I purchased these to use as height/presence/Atmos/DTS:X speakers in order to timber match to the rest of my system. I use another pair of TSx110B's for my side surrounds, and they sound very sweet. The mains are Polk Monitor70 Series II's while the rear surrounds are Monitor40 Series II's, with a CSi A6 center channel. These speakers are all driven by a Yamaha RX-A2060, with Oppo BDP-103 and Denon DBT-3313UDCI universal players. An Onkyo M-5050 stereo amp handles the Zone 2 duties driving a pair of Boston Acoustics Bravo 20's. Thank you, Crutchfield!

Pros: Great sound from a small footprint. Sweet highs and mellow mids. Good looking cabinet. Priced fairly, even better on sale!

    Cons: None.

    Nice small speaker

    James from Michigan on 11/5/2016

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I moved to a small apt and didn't have room for my floor standing main speakers and these were on sale so I thought I would try them. Had them almost a month and they are more than adequate replacemants. I have a subwoofer, so bass isn't an issue. Would reccommend them to anyone looking for a nice bookshelf speaker for main or surround use.

Pros: Clean full sound. Fits in my bookshelf perfectly.

    Cons: none really.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

good but not great sound from these average bookshelf speakers.. I only have a small living room but I did expect a little more punch but as I will be mainly using them to listen to my old lp's they should do fine. Overall pleased

Pros: great price for a brand name speaker

Cons: Bass could have a little more punch. Proberly should of got the tsx floor standing speakers

    Quality on the cheap

Paul from Raleigh, NC on 11/2/2016

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Performance for the price! These speakers shine alone or as I have them setup as my left and right channels in a 3.1 home theater system. Can handle lots of power. Never heard them distort. Low frequency response is to be expected from speakers this size (not spectacular). I'm considering buying another pair for zone 2.

Pros: Well constructed, wall mountable, good power, clear sound, not at all tinny like the big box Polk bookshelf speakers.

Cons: Deep cabinet. Rear firing bass port not ideal for flush wall mount installations. You're gonna want a subwoofer if your room is bigger than 10x10.

    Modern design, classic sound

Daniel from Waterloo, IA on 10/23/2016

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these for my mom, who was ready to get rid of the 7.1 system I put in her living room when i was 16...apparently she was tired of seeing speakers everywhere she looked, so a stereo system was a great replacement. The sound quality of these speakers holds up to Polk's standards, and was exactly what I was expecting out of a bookshelf setup. Straight out of the box they have a moderately warm sound that only got better after a short break in period. The design of the speaker cabinets is attractive and modern. I enjoyed how the rear of the speaker tapers, as it makes them "feel" a little smaller than they actually are. The cherry wood grain is beautiful, and makes the speakers seem more expensive than they are. It gives them the appearance of a nice piece of furniture versus an inexpensive pair of speakers. Overall, I was impressed with the quality, design, and sound of these bookshelf speakers, especially at a price of less than $150 for a pair.

Pros: Attractive design Warm sound Inexpensive

Cons: Slightly bigger than expected (My own fault for not thinking more critically about the dimensions listed in the description - not truly a "con")

    Good value speaker

ToolHound from Clarksville, TN on 10/6/2016

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers to go in my workshop. I based the choice on reviews from Crutchfield and other retailers. I do not have a discerning ear that allows me to be a good judge of sound quality. I used banana plugs to connect the speakers. They are great looking speakers and to my standards sound good. They seem to be an excellent value.

Pros: Look good, sound good, good price

Great value nice sound for the size of speaker .

Pros: For the money super speakers very solid , alittle heavy and bulky to hang on the wall .

Cons: needs slightly more bass but not bad .

David W from Ft Worth, TX on 9/7/2016

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Perfect replacements for a pair of Boston Acoustics bookshelf speakers (A40s)...very crisp imaging and decent bass response for the size (I typically run with subwoofer, however). In my set up, I unfortunately have these set horizontally (space requirement) and probably that is not ideal...not lease because the cabinet is curved!

    Pros: Crisp imaging.

    Cons: None.

    Great stereo speakers

Mike from Trophy Club, TX on 8/23/2016

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These guys replaced my (fathers) old stereo speakers, and even though they are about 1/8th the size they sound about 100 times better. I have had these speakers paired with a Yamaha natural sound receiver and I haven't had the slightest bit of problems. They will fill a small/medium size room no problem without sacrificing sound quality. About to set these speakers up with my TV at my apartment soon, and I expect them to be wonderful. The only thing that is lacking is a little bass, which can be solved by just buying the next speakers up, which looking back I probably should have gotten, but these are perfectly fine.

Pros: Low Cost Great sound at all layers Great look (with the cherry obviously)

Cons: Could use a tap more bass, but it isn't a large problem at all.

    An Absolute Steal!!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently purchased these speakers to replace my 15 year old Cambridge SoundWorks (God Bless you Henry Kloss!) Ensemble speakers, which I have been totally happy with for years. I am using a Marantz NR1403 receiver(also purchased at Crutchfield) as the hub of my AV system. About a year ago I bought a pair of Klipsch RB51 II speakers to replace the fronts. Although the sound was"bigger", the voices sounded like they were coming out of a box; with the old Cambridge Soundworks, the voices just seemed to be "right there". I ended up returning the Klipsch speakers. However, after living with these Polks for about 2 weeks now, these are definitely Keepers. The low end of these really enhanced the mid-bass that was previously lacking, even with a Polk PSW 10 sub. Vocals are clear, and the highs are clear without being overly bright or harsh. Bottom line:I Love these speakers! and at the sale price for the pair, I feel like I just robbed a bank and got away with it!!!! BUY THESE SPEAKERS!!!

Pros: Great sound, excellent wall mounting brackets, fantastic value

    Cons: None

Great bang for your buck deal

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been a Polk audio fan for a few years now and this purchase is just another notch in the belt for Polk. Im using these speakers for small turn table system my daughter got for her birthday. Coupled with my old Pioneer recevier, these Polk speakers bring this system to new life. The sound quality is excellent! This is exactly what I was looking for when building this system for her. The highs and mids are great with good lows on the bottom end. My receiver doesn't come equipped for a sub woofer, but I'm sure that these Polk would really shine with a sub catching all of the lows. Very full sound and versitile for speaker placement. Can be mounted on the walls to give depth and fullness to the room. Excellent buy and will coming back to Polk for the next project.

Pros: Great size for shelf speakers. Full sound. Can be mounted to the walls

Cons: Excellent mids and highs. Can use a sub for more difinitive lows.

Pros: Looks are fantastic, sound quality is off the hook, built to last, portable enough to fit in most areas and really easy to connect.

Cons: None, they do exactly what they're supposed to do

Speakers sound great for the size and price. They look nice but I'm not so crazy about the shape of the box. I would rather have a squared box instead of the curved sides but I guess they are designed for wall mounting in a corner.

    Pros: Price and sound

Cons: Shape of box, and rear bracket

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The dynamic of these speakers is fantastic. Great balance between lows/mids/highs and they also don't seem to lose clarity if you crank them up. I've been around home audio my whole life and some brands out do others for certain genres of music, etc., but these cannot be beat for an overall general sound. Whether it's rock, classical, jazz, country, or just watching a movie these speakers sound amazing and are also very affordable. I'm using them in my home studio as a second set of playback monitors as well as just all around stereo speakers. They are getting quite the workout and so far I've found no flaws. Great buy, I highly recommend them!!

Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion. Using just the right materials enables Polk to tune out performance-robbing resonances before they occur.

Klipple Optimized Motor: Klipple Optimized Motor employs a laser and sophisticated software for large scale analysis of the TSx Series loudspeaker's drivers in motion. Using this state-of-the-art laser and software process, Polk engineers were able to optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Silk/Polymer Dome Tweeter: The TSx110B bookshelf loudspeaker features a 1.0" silk/polymer Dynamic Balance dome tweeter with a powerful neodymium magnet structure that delivers clear and detailed highs for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments, without fatigue.

Bi-Laminate Composite Woofer: The TSx110B bookshelf loudspeaker features a 5.25" bi-laminate composite Dynamic Balance driver which is light and stiff with exceptional damping. This Dynamic Balance bi-laminate composite cone woofer uses a butyl rubber surround, polyamide voice coil, massive motor structure, and high-temperature aramid fiber spider to create a driver of exceptionally high efficiency, clear bass, better linearity, lower distortion, and greater durability.

High Performance Crossover: The loudspeaker employs a high performance crossover system for optimum blending and time alignment of the overall speaker. Mylar bypass capacitors are used to reveal extended high frequency details.

TSx-Series Timbre-Matched: All Polk loudspeakers are timbre-matched within their series, designed with the same components throughout, to achieve seamless speaker-to-speaker blending effects in multi-channel systems.

Frequency Response: The TSx110B bookshelf loudspeaker has an overall frequency response of 53Hz-25kHz, while the -3dB frequency response is 61-24kHz.

    Enclosure Design

Curved MDF Cabinet: The TSx110B bookshelf loudspeaker utilizes a unique curved cabinet design which creates a stronger, more rigid and acoustically inert enclosure. The elegantly curved side panels, which create non-parallel surfaces, reduce unwanted internal standing waves for less audible coloration. Non-resonant all-MDF construction, with a 5/8"thick baffle, ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality.

Note: The TSx110B bookshelf loudspeaker is available in either a black or cherry finish.

Flared Port: The TSx Series loudspeaker features a critically-tuned, rear-firing flared port. The flared port improves air flow and minimizes port noise ("chuffing"), while ensuring good low frequency extension with low distortion. This flared port design lets the TSx speaker reveal realistic, natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.

Anti-Diffraction Grille: The computer modeled anti-diffraction grille minimizes grille interference, so it doesn't get in the way of your sound. This black cloth grille is detachable.

Gold-Plated 5-Way Binding Posts: The TSx110B bookshelf loudspeaker features gold-plated 5-way binding posts for excellent signal transfer. The 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual). The speaker terminals are color coded for easy identification between positive (red) and negative (black).

    Mounting Options

Placement: Create an equilateral triangle between the speaker and the listening position. If you notice video distortion or discoloration, immediately move the speaker away from the video source.

Rubber Feet: The bookshelf loudspeaker comes with self-adhesive rubber feet so it will sit safely and securely on your speaker stand or shelf. The rubber feet add approximately 0.625" to the height of the speaker.

Wall Mounting: The TSx Series loudspeaker has a keyhole slot bracket on the back panel, allowing the speaker to be mounted on the wall using optional mounting screws (sold separately). A wall-mount template is provided to assist you.

Looking for compact speakers to accompany #2 TV. I wanted good sound, but not necessarily home theater or hi-fi quality (we have #1 TV for that). I have Polk Audio outdoor speakers that I am very pleased with. If these are as good as the outdoor speakers, we probably will not require a subwoofer, although the receiver I plan to use has a sub channel. Price was very reasonable. [ James  May 07, 2017 ]

I have a set of these TSx110B's that I use for side surrounds, and they are perfect for how I use them and where I have them mounted. I wanted to keep timbre matching for my height/presence/Atmos speakers, and I have sort of a weird mounting area with a large soffit on the left ceiling of my theater room. I need a smaller speaker footprint than what I have up there now, and I want all Polks for timbre matching. These little guys sound great for the money, and they are the perfect size.
