Designed and built for exceptional performance

Polk carefully builds the TSx-series speakers using advanced manufacturing techniques and high-quality materials — they put a lot into them so you get a lot out of them. Each one boasts Polk's exclusive Dynamic Balance® drivers — a bi-laminate design of fiber-infused polymers sandwiched together to form a strong yet highly efficient lightweight cone for natural, low-distortion sound. Polk puts these advanced drivers through extensive testing to find and eliminate resonance points, ensuring that everything you listen to sounds clean and accurate.

Polk also paid special attention to the TSx crossovers, using a high-performance design with premium parts like Mylar bypass capacitors to deliver smooth and extended high-frequency details. Even the enclosures contribute to great sound. Their attractive cabinets use non-resonant MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) and non-parallel curved side panels to create a rigid, acoustically inert structure that effectively reduces audible coloration.

Driver Technology

TSx Series Loudspeaker: Introducing the TSx Series of loudspeakers from Polk; stylish and quality-built for high performance. The high efficiency TSx Series loudspeaker features a unique curved enclosure wrapped in a wood-grain vinyl. The loudspeaker employs Dynamic Balance tuned drivers and tweeters for realistic mid-range, deep, well-blended bass, and incredible detail - for a classic Polk sound that is naturally open, spacious, and clear.

High Efficiency Design: The TSx Series loudspeaker can be driven by practically any electronics, even the most modestly-powered amplifier or receiver. Whether you're connecting them to the newest digital receiver, or to your vintage amp, the TSx Series loudspeaker can produce sound that's spacious and clear, enveloping and realistic.

Dynamic Balance Drivers: The TSx Series loudspeaker uses Polk's Dynamic Balance Driver Technology for great sound. Dynamic Balance is a proprietary Polk Audio technology using laser imaging to determine what combination of speaker materials create the least amount of resonance. Eliminating resonance in speakers results in a wide, smooth response and low distortion. Using just the right materials enables Polk to tune out performance-robbing resonances before they occur.

Klipple Optimized Motor: Klipple Optimized Motor employs a laser and sophisticated software for large scale analysis of the TSx Series loudspeaker's drivers in motion. Using this state-of-the-art laser and software process, Polk engineers were able to optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

Silk/Polymer Dome Tweeter: The TSx440T tower loudspeaker features a 1.0" silk/polymer Dynamic Balance dome tweeter with a powerful neodymium magnet structure that delivers clear and detailed highs for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments, without fatigue.

Bi-Laminate Composite Woofers: The TSx4400T tower loudspeaker features three 6.5" bi-laminate composite Dynamic Balance midbass/midrange drivers for crisp, detailed midrange and smooth, natural bass extension. These Dynamic Balance bi-laminate composite cone woofers are lightweight and stiff with exceptional damping. They use butyl rubber surrounds, vented polyamide voice coils, massive motor structures, and high-temperature aramid fiber spiders to create a driver of exceptionally high efficiency, clear bass, better linearity, lower distortion, and greater durability.

High Performance Crossover: The loudspeaker employs a high performance crossover system for optimum blending and time alignment of the overall speaker. Mylar bypass capacitors are used to reveal extended high frequency details.

TSx-Series Timbre-Matched: All Polk loudspeakers are timbre-matched within their series, designed with the same components throughout, to achieve seamless speaker-to-speaker blending effects in multi-channel systems.

Frequency Response: The TSx440T tower loudspeaker has an overall frequency response of 33Hz-25kHz, while the -3dB frequency response is 43-24kHz.

Enclosure Design

Curved MDF Cabinet: The TSx440T tower loudspeaker utilizes a unique curved cabinet design which creates a stronger, more rigid and acoustically inert enclosure. The elegantly curved side panels, which create non-parallel surfaces, reduce unwanted internal standing waves for less audible coloration. Non-resonant all-MDF construction with front-to-back and side-to-side internal bracing, and a 3/4"thick baffle ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality.

Note: The TSx440T tower loudspeaker is available in either a black or cherry finish.

Flared Port: The TSx Series loudspeaker features a critically-tuned, front-firing 3" flared port. The flared port improves air flow and minimizes port noise ("chuffing"), while ensuring good low frequency extension with low distortion. This flared port design lets the TSx speaker reveal realistic, natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.

Anti-Diffraction Grille: The computer modeled anti-diffraction grille minimizes grille interference, so it doesn't get in the way of your sound. This black cloth grille is detachable.

Dual 5-Way Binding Posts: The TSx440T tower loudspeaker has two sets of gold-plated 5-way binding posts connected by gold-plated jumpers. Using the dual 5-way binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers. The 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual). The speaker terminals are color coded for easy identification between positive (red) and negative (black).

Mounting Options

Placement: Create an equilateral triangle between the speaker and the listening position. If you notice video distortion or discoloration, immediately move the speaker away from the video source.

Integrated Feet: The TSx440T tower speaker features four integrated conical non-slip feet to ensure stability for precise positioning.

Good reviews and price as well as fitting my living room home theatre nicely! Thanks [ Jeff  Feb 21, 2016 ]
I've had Polk Audio in the past and liked them. Was willing to try some newer Polk Audio to hear how they sound. And with the buy one get one 50% off doesn't hurt. [ JASON  Dec 15, 2015 ]
I have an early Polk Tower (25 years) for my Fisher tube 800c and they have survived many moves, setups, playings. I just picked up the Yamaha s500 receiver (from Crutchfield) and realized that I had no appropriate speakers to do it justice. These will do the trick -- after successfully lobbying my wife by scaring her sense of decor by mentioning a future with gigantic subwoofers, tangled wires, etc. It works. [ edward  Jun 22, 2016 ]
Awesome quality and price overall!!! [ Jacob  Jun 20, 2016 ]
Good deal on a quality product from my favorite electronics dealer, the always dependable and reliable Crutchfield. [ William  Jun 08, 2016 ]
Great reviews, need a speaker upgrade [ William  May 23, 2016 ]
Polk quality speakers, exceptionally good price, Crutchfield customer service reputation. A winning combination. [ F O  May 06, 2016 ]
Price, color and reviews. Just got rid of my 10 year old Infinity's which I loved but you don't carry this any longer, so I will give Polk Audio a try [ Ivan  May 05, 2016 ]
I was looking for a good floor standing speaker. These received excellent reviews, so I hope they live up to the hype. [ Dwayne  Apr 27, 2016 ]
they look nice [ Anni  Jan 10, 2016 ]
Bang for the buck [ stanislav  Dec 07, 2015 ]

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: If you need video connections a home theater receiver is your better option, and they can still be used in stereo mode. The Yamaha RX-V675 would be a good choice, because it has USB, two zone capability, good power output, and good processing. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Mar 20, 2014 ]  Staff

Max, I am not an expert audiophile, however, at 61 years of age I can tell you that these Polks are incredible speakers with what I believe to be excellent high, low and mid-range reproduction needing very little power to drive them. There are two sets of terminals on each speaker to accommodate an amp and pre-amp which I understand would enhance sound reproduction. I am not familiar with a phono pre-amp, however, like I said, I am not an expert. I would suggest calling a tech at Crutchfield for an experts opinion. A set of speakers that sounds great to me, may only be mediocre to you. There are many factors involved including; age, room size, furnishings and window treatments in the room distance you sit from the speakers, placement, etc. The Polks you are considering need space/distance to project the best sound quality. I've gotten away from your topic but I wanted to provide a little input. I would think that your turntable would simply interface with your amp. Hope this helps. [ ROBERT  Mar 06, 2014 ]
I wouldn't imagine that you would.. looking it up, it looks like that receiver has a dedicated phono input. So it should just be a plug and play setup. And those TSx-440t's are amazing! Crystal clear sound reproduction even at high volume levels, I LOVE mine!! Mike: Pioneer VSX1020-K, Polk TSX440T Towers, TSX250C Center, TSI200 surrounds x6 and a DSW PRO660 Sub. [ MICHAEL  Mar 05, 2014 ]
You will need a pre-amp for any turntable-to-receiver connection where the receiver does not have a built-in pre-amp. Before the compact disc era, pre-amps were always built into receivers. Now, only a few specialty receivers for the retro LP aficionado market have them built into the receivers. You can spend anywhere from $25 to several hundred dollars for a turntable pre-amp. I bought a Cambridge Audio 551P at the low end of the price spectrum and it seems to work fine, though I wouldn't claim to be an expert. [ JAMES A  Mar 05, 2014 ]
The older marantz have phono inputs so no preamp needed. [ MATTHEW A  Mar 05, 2014 ]
