Infinity Kappa.11i

Legendary sound

Infinity's Kappa Series 52.11i 5-1/4" speakers continue in the tradition of this legendary line of speakers, offering rugged construction and impressive sound quality. Once installed, these speakes will bring out every nuance and detail in your favorite music tracks, making time spent in your car seem more like a concert than a commute.

Large soft dome tweeters

If you're looking for natural-sounding high frequencies, Infinity uses edge-driven 1" soft dome tweeters in this system. The "edge-driven" design results in a larger tweeter that handles more power and delivers smooth response way down into midrange frequencies not covered by smaller "W"-shaped domes. You'll hear a more clearly defined soundstage where you can picture the placement of every instrument.

Infinity's UniPivot design allows you to aim each tweeter toward your ears, so you enjoy excellent stereo imaging even if the speakers are mounted way down low in your doors. Each tweeter also features a level control switch so you can boost the brightness to your taste.

Glass fiber woofer with Plus One+ technology

If you like bass, the Kappa glass fiber woofer holds its shape when the power's cranked up, so you still get punchy and defined bass. Glass fiber weighs less than traditional materials, so you don't need a ton of power to drive this woofer. Infinity's Plus One+ woofer technology extends the cone right up to the edge of the basket, giving you more surface area than with most comparable speakers. A bigger cone means more bass to complement the superior high-frequency response.

Great for any system

These 2-ohm speakers are sensitive enough that you can power them with an aftermarket stereo, but you'll get your best results feeding them plenty of power from an outboard amp — up to 55 watts RMS. Grilles are included.

Product Highlights:

  • 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers
  • Plus One+ glass-fiber woofer cone with hi-roll rubber surround

These are fantastic speakers! Installed 4 of them in a 2006 Harley Ultra Classic. They fit perfectly in the rear, and only had to do a slight modification to the front speaker pod to fit just right. Along with a 360 watt amp, these babies sound amazing!!

Hands-down THE BEST sounding 5-1/4" speakers on the market. I have installed three sets in clients' Fiat 124 Spiders where space is limited. Even being driven by the head unit's own internal amplifiers, these speakers sound amazing. Two very big thumbs up!

Pros: Efficient, superb sound

Cons: None really

Wow! Seriously impressive sound from these speakers! Crisp, clear, clean highs, great toned mids, deep thumping lows. The sound that these speakers put out from my stock radio saved me from purchasing a aftermarket radio and subwoofer. Matching these with a pair of Infinity 6x8's gave me a well balanced sound without spending a ton of money and wasting a bunch of time.

Replacing oem speakers in a smart car. Unfortunately had to use 5 1/2" instead of 6 1/2", because space allowed. Sound was much improved. Instructions were sufficient.

Pros: Full sound. Very clean and clear in all ranges and volume levels.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Paired these with 62.11i in my 2013 Extended cab Silverado (6-1/2" front doors - 5-1/4" rear doors). Great sound with almost flat equalization... super clear. Bass is better than I expected. If you prefer really deep/warm bass tones, you're gonna want a sub-woofer. You Tube videos show how to cannibalize rear factory speakers to create mounting bracket that work perfectly with these. Crutchfield supplied adaptor bracket for the fronts worked perfectly with no modification needed. Free instructions & wiring adaptor are helpful... better than cutting factory wires. You will need to cut & strip adaptor wire to work with screw down terminals (I also soldered the stripped wires, not as big a deal as some have expressed). I'm very happy I upgraded to these speakers. I also bought the tool kit to help remove door panels. Not really needed for this vehicle, but nice to have: be especially careful removing the upper triangle piece next to the front windows, one of the tabs did break off, but I super glued it back together.

Pros: Sound clarity & great fit great

Cons: None

I just put a pair of these in my 200 Jeep Wrangler. They sound pretty good. Way better than what was in there when I bought the Jeep. I just want to point out that despite what the Crutchfield guidance says, these DO NOT FIT in the dash corner location without significant modification which I was unwilling and at the time unequipped to do. I ended up putting them in the sound bar instead where they do fit just fine.

I had bought these to replace some kickers that I had in the back of my jeep but after purchasing realized they were 2 ohm and my system is 4. They sounded great and were build like freaking tanks! Ended up swapping them out for the reference series because these kappas drew too much power from my battery.

Pros: Built quality Clean sound Swivel tweeter +3db button is a must if you have subs.

Cons: 2ohms

Will improve the bass response and got rid of all of the rattles caused by the bass in my car! Amazing product, infinity will never let you down.

Pros: Great bass, directional tweeter is handy, +3db button is a must have

A very great quality of speaker. Definitely a step up from the stock speakers that was in my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Pros: crisp clear mid range and tweeters. Bass is good but not as much as I could get if I up graded my stock amp.

Cons: speakers did not fit the stock holes in the door. I need to do some drilling to mount the speakers.

Excellent choice for my Wrangler

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fantastic range, set crossovers at 80 to start with and then went ahead and dropped to near 50 and let it over lap with the Sub, seems to bring out more bass from the speakers and not rely on sub to produce the wider range and no distortion playing at 3/4 volume. Love these

Pros: Mounts in the sound pods without modifications and easy adaption to dash using Select Increments housings. I like the Screw terminals for speaker wires. Clear highs and no distortion at the lower frequency's.

Cons: None

Bought these for my rear doors on my 2013 Tundra and they are power by my factory head unit. They are definitely an improvement over the cheap stock speakers. I love the clarity of them and it isn't amplified yet. Installation was very simple and I am new to installing speakers.

Pros: Great quality, durable, good clarity

Cons: Haven't found anything yet

Kind of a pain..

StevenN from California on 1/15/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

In terms of sound quality, its great! very clear highs and mids, albeit pretty poor lows, but thats what a subwoofer is for. What I had a HUGE issue with was the mounting kit provided by crutchfield! They provided a kit for my 2009 honda civic, but they failed to warn me that I would need to drill holes into the metal frame to properly mount the speakers. With the long screws provided, it needed to penetrate through the metal in order to be secure. Furthermore, the wiring kit they gave me wasn't plug and play either! I had to strip the wires because these kappa speakers don't have a +/- plug you just plug the clips into. They're more old-school and you have to screw in the wires.

Pros: Mids and highs are crisp and clear

Cons: lows are weak

2009 Ford E Series
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, I need to qualify this speaker install. These are being used with an Alpine CDE-W235BT CD which was purchased at a local electronics store that is narrowing their scope of business. These were installed into a 2009 E 250 Ford van that is a work vehicle. I would also add that the same speaker, with the adapter plate will fir the rear doors, even though they are not listed as such here. Also, I found the speaker wires already back there which I routed into the back doors using a piece of speaker wire. As this is a work vehicle, there is no interior other than the front seat area. Ok, now for the speakers themselves. They are well made and easy to fit using the enclosed mounting plate and connector supplied by Crutchfield. The speakers have screw terminals which I personally like. I cut off the end of the adapter cable and attached the wire. The tweeter can be angled to place the soundstage higher up which is good considering the speakers are about knee level in the doors. I experimented with the +3dB attenuation that can be had by the button located on the tweeter but found in a van with essentially a metal interior, it was way too much high end. I am pleased however with the overall sound of the speakers and they would no doubt do even better in a vehicle with some sound deadening and things not vibrating, but as I said, this is a work vehicle. I'm very happy with the speakers and would recommend them.

Pros: Big improvement over the stock speakers.

Cons: None in my application.

Started buying Kappa speakers from Crutchfield 23 years ago. After reading the reviews on the 5.2ii's, decided to stick with the Kappa's. The mids and highs are so detailed and clean, it still makes me smile when listening to my new speakers. This is just the beginning of my system upgrade, planning on the 693ii,s and an Alpine PDX 4 to complete my hot rod tunes.

Pros: Detailed, clean mids and highs.

I bought these speakers because of their sensitivity rating. I needed a high sensitivity rating because my car does not provide a significant amount of Watts. Even though these have a high sensitivity rating i did not recognize a big difference between the highs and lows with these speakers. I could have gotten the same amount of output for $50 speakers.

Cons: Expensive

2013 Honda Fit Sport
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered two sets of these while on sale to replace the factory speakers in a 2013 Honda Fit Sport. They are well built, high quality speakers. Screw in terminals add a nice touch. The tweeter can be turned so that it faces up if installed low in the doors. The tweeter can also be enhanced by three Db with the press of a button. Installation in the Fit is a bit of a pain since you have to remove the entire door panel to replace the speaker. I really wish the car makers would just have removable speaker grills for easy access, Plastic connectors are easy to break and you will end up running to the dealer to get replacements. I replaced the front two speakers and both fired up fine. I replaced one of the rear speakers and there was no sound. Odd. I reseated the speaker wire, still no sound. I then connected the other Infinity speaker that came in the set, and it worked. To double-check, I connected the factory speaker and it worked. Bad speaker. Called Crutchfield and they immediately sent a new set out that same afternoon! Fantastic customer service. I need to return the defective speaker as well as one of the good ones in the set within 14 days to not be charged. The speakers that came with the Fit actually sound pretty good. These Kappas blow them away. Much clearer sound. Great highs. Great mid-range. Bass is ok for such a small speaker. Improved detail. Highly recommended.

Pros: Great sound and build quality. Screw terminals.

Bought these speakers as an upgrade to recommended speakers after comparing reviews on Crutchfield. Had them installed in the shelf behind the fronts seats of my 1987 Mercedes 560SL. This was my first purchase from Crutchfield. Great Packaging with the speakers, came with the mounting adapters and hardware which really make the install alot cleaner and easier for sure. Pros: Terminal connectors are a big plus. They were also packaged very well.

Cons: Dont know how I feel about having plastic connections to attach the speaker to the door but from using the previous generation of kappa's I feel it is an upgrade from having the screw practically into the rubber of the speaker.

delivery and packaging were flawless...these Infinity speakers are very solid, and deserve no complaints...installation went very smooth in rear doors of 2004 C240 Benz Wagon...i gutted and re-used the factory housings (not those free ones, thanks anyway Crutchfield) after a few minutes with a utility knife and dremmel tool, no new holes, and very solid...note Benz is Brown = (+)Positive, and Pink = (-)Ground...Sound is what you should expect from Infinity, very clean mids, and bright highs, with better than expected lows...rotatable tweeters allowed upright alignment of the handy screw-down terminals without compromising their aim gently upwards into cabin...nice design ideas, thanks Infinity! Highly recommended.

Pros: Very solidly built, with high quality components throughout, resulting in good punch and clarity, handy screw-down terminals, rotatable tweeters, thoughtful assortment of fastener hardware, moderate price.

Cons: none found

Pros: speaker covers do work with these speakers, you do not have to use the stock covers , easy to install..sound great. Screw wiring terminals on the back of the speaker.

Product Research

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speaker cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency.

Formed Glass Fiber Woofer Cones: The formed glass fiber cone material is very light and extremely stiff, minimizing flex. This results in very low distortion and improved clarity.

iCGM frames: The Kappa series speaker baskets are made of composite Injected Carbon Glass Matrix (iCGM). iCGM is lighter and stronger than stamped steel; it retains its shape, even when mounted on uneven surfaces (common in car mounting locations), plus offers exceptional damping of any resonances.

Edge Driven Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" Edge-driven textile soft dome tweeter. An edge-driven tweeter has better dispersion characteristics and allows for a lower crossover frequency than typical tweeters of the same size, which improves imaging. The result is improved vocals and musical clarity. The tweeter also has an adjustable output level, +0 dB (flat) and +3 dB.

UniPivot Tweeter: The tweeter is angled and can be rotated about 315° after installation. This allows you to direct the tweeters toward the listeners, very useful for speakers mounted low in a door.

High-Output Design: The high output 2-ohm voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extracts every watt from factory receivers, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4 ohm speakers). The speaker's 2.0-ohm impedance combined with the impedance of your speaker wire provides a true 4-ohm load to your connected headunit or amplifier. The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers, designed to power a 2-ohm load.

Terminals: The input terminals are gold-plated set screws that will accept up to 12 gauge bare wire.

Power Handling: Although Infinity lists the RMS power handling as 55 watts, they also list the recommended power range as 5-75 watts RMS. We've opted to list the more conservative 55 watt RMS figure on the specifications page.

But according to the specs, it's listed as 5-50w rms. I hope the speakers don't die. [ Vamsy  Jan 19, 2015 ]
Yes, the speakers will be just fine; I currently have mine paired with a Rockford Fosgate PBR300X4 which outputs 75 watts RMS x 4 for almost two years with no issues. I was always taught that it is not power that kills speakers, it is distortion that kills speakers (within reason, of wouldn't pair a 50 watt speaker with a 600 watt amplifier and expect that speaker to hold up too well). Yes, 70 watts rms is within the acceptable range of these speakers. I am very happy with my purchase of these. [ DARION  Jan 18, 2015 ]
