Overview

Our take on the Infinity Reference 6412cfp

You probably spend more time listening to music in your car than in your home. Why not enjoy home speaker sound quality when you're on the road?

You probably spend more time listening to music in your car than in your home. Why not enjoy home speaker sound quality when you're on the road?

Infinity Reference 6412cfp 4"x6" plate speakers feature silk dome tweeters that would be right at home in your living room speakers. These sweet-sounding domes deliver crisp, clear response, yet won't fatigue the ears. Since the tweeters are mounted separately from the woofers, you'll enjoy a well-balanced stereo "sweet spot" — just like sitting in your favorite listening spot at home.

Infinity designed their Plus One+ woofers with more surface area than other 4"x6" plate speakers, for higher efficiency and improved bass output. A sturdy rubber surround suspends the cone in its non-resonant basket.

Settle into the driver's seat and make the most of your daily drive time with the exceptional sound of Infinity Reference speakers. Grilles are not included. (Factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.)

Infinity's in a Jeep

Charlie from Tennessee on 8/8/2008

I put a pair of the Infinity plate speakers in the dash of my Jeep Wrangler. It seems that this is a strange place to put speakers but the Jeep Corporation made room for these speakers to be placed in the dashboard. I took full advantage of these "built-in" spaces with special mounting brackets provided by Crutchfield. Everything fit perfectly, the speakers sound fine and work well in the location for which they were intended. The Crutchfield advisor (Marie) was very helpful and made sure that I had everything I needed to complete the job. Kudos for Marie and her knowledge. I will be a returning customer and I highly recommend everyone to be sure to use CRUTCHFIELD first.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The screws used to hold the speaker into the bracket are too small for this speaker and slide right through the mounting hole. Could not figure out what to do with the harness adapter included, didn't seem useful -- I ended up just directly soldering the original wiring harness to the speakers. After the unexpected hurdles, the speakers went in quickly and sound pretty decent -- good price.

Great Sound

Brad from Swartz Creek, MI on 5/5/2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound great in my 91 Chevy truck. Very Clear and precise. They do however distort at a certain (Very High)volume or if you send it to much bass, in other words use the bass blocker on your head unit or buy some. If anyone has looked into these for their full size Chevy truck and Crutchfield says they don't fit, well they are right. I really wanted these speakers and if you get creative they WILL fit. I had to shim the dash on the front passenger side and my hammer helped widen the hole in the rear. In other words, Go for it you will not regret it, especially if you match them up with a good amp and run all new speaker wire like I did.

These Speaker were a replacement for my factory speakers in my Malibu. They sound great with my Kenwood receiver. The highs are crystal clear and for a 4" speaker they put out decent sound at lower frequecies. They were also a breeze to install with the materials and master sheet provided free by Crutchfield.com

1999 Chevrolet Malibu
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield's "Outfit My Car" somehow recommended this to me when I was explicitly searching for component speakers. So I quite surprised when I got the small package in the mail. After installation of the passenger's speaker, I compared them to the stock driver's speaker and couldn't hear much difference in the bass response and only slightly more clarity in the mids and highs. Was a little disappointed... However, like all aftermarket speakers, the only real test is to put them both in and turn the volume up LOUD and see how much they can handle. By this test, they blow my stock speakers out of the water. My JVC deck is powerful enough to put some serious power into these, and their bass is a perfect mix with my Pioneer 6x9's and 10" sub in the back. Fitting 3 speakers in one case makes them much smaller than just fitting 1, so you shouldn't expect much of them alone as there's not enough space for a good mid-range or low-range speaker. I still feel the need for two more mid/high range speakers to fill out the soundstage, but I'm satisfied for now. Recommended IF you have a balanced system that already has good bass. NOT recommended IF you want to use these alone. Get bigger speakers for that. Note on install - the wire connectors are almost impossibly short for my '99 Chevy Malibu, likely for other cars as well.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought as replacements for the dash speakers in my '99 Wrangler Sport. I also installed a set of Bass Blockers recommended by Crutchfield's customer service. Installation was incredibly easy with the included hardware. These speakers are very clear and have enough dB to power over the road noise associated with a Jeep, so the should do well in any vehicle. I can turn my stereo all the way up now without any distortion.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome sound from these little speakers. Replaced some very tired and worn out 4x6's in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler. Big upgrade in sound. As expected, strong highs and weaker bass, but still a huge improvement on the stock models. Crutchfield's kit worked wonderfully for install, only hitch was the screws for the adapter plates did not fit and had to go to the hardware store for replacement screws. Still an easy install...besides the trip to the store it took about 30 minutes top to bottom. Won't complain...still made life way easier than trying without their included kit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these for my 2003 Jeep Wrangler as replacements for the factory dash speakers. With the included Jeep specific mounting bracket and wiring harness, I had these babies installed in 15 minutes. I am running these off of a factory receiver w/no bass blockers. Excellent sound quality. Some of the reviewers here complained about the lack of bass, etc....these are front DASH speakers meant to enhance the overall quality of sound of your total system...not provide window shaking bass etc. These are darn good speakers. Could have bought these for less elsewhere, but once you add in the required wiring harness and the aftermarket mounting bracket PLUS shipping...this turns out to be a much better deal. Ordered on Monday morning, received them Wednesday noon.

1995 Buick Century
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these to replace the stock front speakers in a '95 Buick Century. They are currently run by a JVC KD-HDR1 @ 20W RMS. Despite Crutchfield's saying they won't fit my car, I got them to fit snugly. They are not symettrically mounted, and there is a *small* amount of interference with under-dash ducting, but they fit fine and don't vibrate or distort (no plate flex).<BR>I won't waste time saying how much better they were than stock, however, they did sound better than I expected after reading reviews. Many reviews complained of weak bass out of the speakers, so I had low expectations. They These plates increased my overall sound quality immeasurably. They sounded clear and tight for every frequency thrown at them, with great response down as low as they could get. Zero distortion or weak spots. ABSOLUTELY worth the price!

99 Jeep TJ Install

Timothy from Woonsocket, RI on 8/9/2007

1999 Jeep Wrangler
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these speakers into the dash location on my Jeep. The Jeep is not exactly a great platform to get a good idea of how these sound due to the poor acoustics of the vehicle. That being said, there is no sense of bass whatsoever from these speakers, and as such, sound like your listening through a tin can. Also would of been nice if Infinity or Crutchfield included screws to install the speakers. If installing these in a Jeep, you're better off saving your money and buying cheaper speakers.

These are great speakers to swap in place of the original paper cone speakers. Only problem I had was that the screws provided with the adaptor plate do not fit or hold the speakers in place. I had to go to a hardware store and buy screws that were skinny enough to fit, plus washers to help hold them in place. Other than that, the install is very quick and simple.

Replaced my 2003 GMC Sierra factory 4x6 speakers with these. You will find no better speaker for the rear doors. Even the mid/bass was as good as the 6 3/4 Kenwoods I have in the front doors. The highs are unbelievable. If your thinking about these...then get them.

I purchased these to replace the stock speakers in the front doors of my Alero. I thought the stock speakers sounded good but, after hearing these the difference was like night and day. Crystal clear mids and highs, just make sure you get a set of crossovers for them, 600 or 800Hz, and you won't regret buying these.

Installation in my 2001 Chevrolet 2500 ext. cab was very easy. They are powered by a Dual cd770 at 25 watts rms and sound really good. Alot better than the stock speakers. They are paired with Alpine speakers in the front. Together they produce a real good sound. I would definitely recommend them.

I had the Polk dB460's in the rear doors of my EXT. Cab GMC pickup, and they sucked, these blow those out of the water. What i dont get is the Polk's have a better customer rating. They were crap compared to these. Def. the best for the price range, even though there isn't much selection in the 4X6 range. If you are going to run these, you should really have an amp, it helped alot. If i ever have to replace the rest of my system, I know im going with Infinity's.

Despite Crutchfield saying that these would not fit in the front doors of my 94 Caprice, I decided to purchase them anyway. I had to completely modify (destroy) the factory speaker baskets to get these speakers to fit, but it was worth it. These have amazing sound. I wanted to get the Kappas, but they're 2 ohm and my amp would blow them without a question (140 watts X 4 at 2 ohms). with the gain below the normal setting, these speakers are crisp and loud. I have an Alpine CDA-9855 with the crossovers set at 200hz with a slope of 12db/octave. All in all I would recommend these speakers to anyone.

Fantastic speakers at a great price

flyguy from Oklahoma City, OK on 9/8/2006

I purchased these for my '92 suburban as an upgrade from the old Clarions that were installed in the dash. I could not be happier with the selection I made due to the great sound quality and sensitivity these speakers possess. All the speakers with the exception of the sub are powered directly from the head unit which is a DEH-P7600MP. Due to the units built in HP filter it was not required that I install "bass blockers", as I set the the hp filter at 80hz. These speakers give an excellent sound stage and clairity I have not heard in a long time from mobile speakers. My musical tastes are very diverse and these dont miss a beat. I was astounded at the frequency range they were able to cleanly pass through. Power handling for me is of no concern as they are run off the head unit, but am sure they can handle anything within reason. I would recomend this series of speaker to anyone as they have sold me for life with their quality/price ratio. I hope this was of assistance to someone. Later;)

I bought these to go along with my alpine type-s in the front of my 2004 siverado and if your looking for clarity and surround in the cab this is a great set up. The best thing about these speakers are that you can listen to pretty much any type of music.

I just replaced the stock rear 4X6 speakers in my 2000 Z-71 extended cab and boy was I happy with the Infinity Reference 6412cfp.I am running them on my factory cd player and boy do they sound loud and clear compared to my factory speakers. If u plan to buy these to use on a high power cd player then I suggest getting bass blockers for them but If u plan to install them with a factory head unit then no bass blockers are needed because I can turn my bass all the way up,turn my volume up and they do not clip or blurr at all on my factory head unit.I say go for them!!!!!U will be glad that you did

this is an outstanding deal. the infinity referance 4/6 plate speaker, wrok extreamly well for the mid to high FRQ. i had them and changed them for the kappa's. the referance worked better for my truck. i needed something to round out the highr FRQ range and the referance had a very clear, high quality, crisp sound. the kappas are grate speakers but the referance just had a better sound. dont get me wrong the kappas would sound alittle better then the referance speakers, if the two speakers where playing all by them selfes, but the referance just filled out my sound range a little better.

These sound vary good in my '99 jeep. the tweeters are crisp ank clean even at high volume, but the woofer has some distortion. I ended up putting bass blockers on them and they sound great running off my clarion head unit, and they match up fairley will with the kappa perfect components in the rear.overall its a good bang for your buck.

They're probably worth it for you.

Dan from Suffolk, VA on 11/19/2005

The thing with most speakers is in what your set up with them is going to be and what frequencies you expect to be able to hear from them. These speakers are great for high notes and most mid's, but don't expect for one minute for them to pump out the bass you want. In fact its definitely a wise move to by a frequency cutoff for them so that they won't be sent low notes to play, otherwise you may damage them. Also, its a pretty good idea to hook up a suitable amp for these speakers so you'll get the most out of them. If you are installing them in a GM SUV its almost a must if you have a subwoofer or two in the back. You'll want to get a decent set of Full range speakers to accompany them. On my 91 blazer i have Infinity's Reference 6012SI and they must be hooked up to an amp to get their potential out because you can't hear them over the pounding on the 12" Infinity subs in the rear. If your looking for a good amp i'd suggest Infinitys 7541A. Its a 4channel amp that has plenty of power for the two Refences series speakers, but if your an audiophile go ahead and splurge on the Kappa's they'll sound even better. Just remember to cut off the low notes from this set of speakers and they'll do ya right.

Features

Plus One+ Woofer Cones: Each speaker uses a cone significantly larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a unique basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One+ design offers greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency.

Woofer Materials: Each woofer is constructed from Injection-Molded Polypropylene. This process of cone molding assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. It is also lighter weight and more rigid for decreased distortion and improved bass response.

Hi-roll Rubber Surrounds: The hi-roll rubber surrounds allow the woofers a greater range of movement, resulting in longer X-max and more bass output.

3/4" Silk Dome Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 3/4" edge-driven silk dome tweeter for smooth, accurate highs.
