Overview

Our take on the Infinity Kappa 652.7i

Infinity Kappa speakers incorporate the latest technology to provide you with outstanding sound reproduction. And, thanks to Infinity's innovative low-impedance design, they're built for high efficiency as well.

Infinity Kappa speakers incorporate the latest technology to provide you with outstanding sound reproduction. And, thanks to Infinity's innovative low-impedance design, they're built for high efficiency as well.

The Kappa 652.7i 6-3/4" speaker features a super-stiff woofer cone to minimize flexing that can cause distortion. The Plus One cone design offers a larger surface area than other 6-3/4" speakers, for improved bass output and efficiency. The woofer's powerful, compact neodymium magnets weigh much less than traditional magnets — a nice feature when you're trying to save weight in your high-performance vehicle.

Infinity uses the same type of tweeter found in many of their popular home speakers, so you'll hear the music the way it was recorded, with minimal coloration or distortion. The tweeter also pivots, so you can adjust its output for a perfect stereo image.

The computer-optimized outboard crossover employs audiophile-grade components to separate highs and lows so that the woofer and tweeter work together perfectly. A tweeter level control allows you to tailor the tweeter's response for perfect balance.

Important Note: These Infinity speakers use a low impedance design to pull more power safely from your car stereo or amplifier. This design is compatible with all factory and aftermarket stereos.

The speakers are great, but do not fit the doors in my 2003 PT Cruiser w/o major work. The hole in the door is 6" and the speaker mounting hole diameter is 6". A bracket is required; they provided one, but it doesn't fit these speakers. I'm going to make my own.

I installed four of these in my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. What a difference! Crisp, solid sound. I took the advice in the review by Jason about adjusting the tweeter output and directional cone before pulling the door panels back on. I had to drill new mounting holes in the doors, but due to the larger speaker (6 3/4") surface mounting area was not a problem. I recommend these speakers, especially for the price and they came with a 3 year warranty!

Great 2 Way Speakers

Jason from Marysville, WA on 1/27/2008

After about 3 months of research I settled on these speakers. I matched them with Kappa 60.7cs components up front and a Kappa 10" sub. I've got them powered by a Kicker ZX350.4 (90w @ 2 ohm) and they absolutely scream! Once I got the power match correctly to compliment the front speakers instead of overpower them, they sounded awesome. Highs are ridiculously crisp and clear, mids are solid and bass is heard but not felt but that's to be expected. You'll need a sub if you crave bass. One thing I should note is that if you get them installed using your existing door panel speaker grills, be sure to do two things. First, set the "Unipivot" tweeter to fire in the direction of the listeners ears. Second, adjust the tweeter sensitivity (0db to +3db) to your liking by rotating the tweeter faceplate. Again, all this should be done prior to installing them behind a factory door panel. I had to take mine off to access these settings which wasn't a big deal, but for some, this task can be a real pain let alone you can accidently break the panel if you're not careful. One less thing to avoid. Other than that, these speakers are an absolute joy to listen to. You'll be able to hear every nuance of your music.

Great speakers

Dave from Indiana on 3/28/2007

We are using these speakers in two 35-ft limo coaches. The system is set up the same in both. There is no comparison to any of the systems we have used before it. We have four pairs of Infinity Kappa 652.7i speakers being driven by an Infinity Reference 7541a four-channel amplifier. Each channel is driving two 652.7i speakers in series giving us a 4-ohm load on each channel. The subwoofer frequencies are filtered in the Panasonic CQ-C8803U head unit and passed to an Infinity Reference 611a. The 611a drives two Infinity Kappa Perfect 12vq component subs. Two Tsunami 1.2-farad caps are installed to support the amps. As long as the levels and filters are all set properly, this system sounds great. We have had it up to around 75% with no audible clipping. We would have to wear hearing protection to get it any higher as it becomes very uncomfortable to listen to at these levels. This is certainly not a competition grade system, but we have more than enough power for our application. The sound is clear and crisp throughout the volume range that we have tested.

these lil speakers offer great sound, very crisp, very clean, you'll notice things in songs that you perhaps missed before. I dont think you can go wrong with these infinity's. i wish i could rate them higher. you'll need to power these with an amp to get all these speakers have to offer.

Features

Plus One+ Woven-Glass-Fiber Woofer Cones: The Plus One speakers use cones approximately 30% larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One design offers greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency.

Woven-Glass-Fiber Woofer Cones: This woven-glass-fiber material is very light and extremely stiff, minimizing cone flex. This results in very low distortion and improved clarity.

Motor Structure: The new Kappas use a Neodymium motor structure with an integrated heat sink. This design provides a massive amount of energy while minimizing mounting depth and magnet diameter. The integrated heat sink cools the motor structure efficiently, thus increasing power handling while reducing distortion.

Edge Driven MMD Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has an Edge-driven MMD (Metal Matrix Diaphragm) dome tweeter. The benefit is increased power handling and reduced distortion at high output. This technology also allows for better integration with the mid/woofer. The tweeter has an adjustable output level, +0 dB (flat) and +3 dB.

UniPivot Tweeter: The tweeter is angled and can be rotated about 270° after installation. This allows you to direct the tweeters toward the listeners, very useful for speakers mounted low in a door.

SLIT High-Output Design: This high output 2 ohm design extracts every watt from today's amplifiers and hi powered receivers, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4 ohm speakers).

Crossovers: Kappa speakers include computer-optimized, voice-matched crossovers, using audiophile quality air core inductors and polypropylene capacitors.

Crossover Connections: Each crossover has a 12" input lead terminated with bare wire and two 19" output leads, one for the woofer and one for the tweeter, terminated with female quick-slides. The female quick-slides connect to the male quick-slides on the speaker. The positive terminal on the woofer is 0.248" and the negative is 0.191". The positive terminal on the tweeter is 0.205" and the negative is 0.111".

Crossover Dimensions: L=3.615", W=1.735", H=1.107"
