Overview

Our take on the Infinity Kappa 692.7i

Infinity Kappa speakers incorporate the latest technology to provide you with outstanding sound reproduction. And, thanks to Infinity's innovative low-impedance design, they're built for high efficiency as well.

Infinity Kappa speakers incorporate the latest technology to provide you with outstanding sound reproduction. And, thanks to Infinity's innovative low-impedance design, they're built for high efficiency as well.

The Kappa 692.7i 6"x9" speaker features a super-stiff woofer cone to minimize flexing that can cause distortion. The cone's Plus One design offers a larger surface area than other 6"x9" speakers, for improved bass output and efficiency. The woofer's powerful, compact neodymium magnets weigh much less than traditional magnets — a nice feature when you're trying to save weight in your high-performance vehicle.

Infinity uses the same type of tweeter found in many of their popular home speakers, so you'll hear the music the way it was recorded, with minimal coloration or distortion. The tweeter also pivots, so you can adjust its output for a perfect stereo image.

The computer-optimized outboard crossover employs audiophile-grade components to separate highs and lows so that the woofer and tweeter work together perfectly. A tweeter level control allows you to tailor the tweeter's response for perfect balance.

Important Note: These Infinity speakers use a low impedance design to pull more power safely from your car stereo or amplifier. This design is compatible with all factory and aftermarket stereos.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's a shame these are discontinued. Many will miss out on these excellent speakers. Installation was straight forward with only minor annoyance of attaching crossover box safely in the trunk. The sound is vastly better than the OEM junk that came with the Civic. The setting for +3db or 0db for the tweeter/midrange should be left at 0db; once you boost it in my installation, you're going to live with it because of the difficulty involved with removing the back deck to reach the speakers. These work well even with the limited output of the stock radio because they are low impedance 2ohm speakers. They will sound much better with more power.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers as an upgrade to my stock system in my 1996 Honda Accord Sedan. It is a work/commuter car that I did not want to heavily modify or sink a ton of money into. I simply wanted a better sounding system. These Infinity speakers went in easily and sound great. Again, I know I can get blown away by component systems and subs but that was not my intent. I have far better clarity with these than I did from the stock speakers. My next phase is to upgrade the head unit which I know will make a difference as well because I will be able to plug in my ipod and satelite units direct which will also improve the overall quality of the sound. One thing that made this hands down the best modification I've done to any car on any level was the information and support I received from Crutchfield. Outstanding literature on how to do the install even if you are savvy on this kind of stuff, as well as the adapters to make splicing and reconnecting to the stock system a breeze. I am now a big supporter of Crutchfield.

These speakers have excellent highs, almost too much, had to turn the treble down -1db. Bass is really good. Little short of midrange. Only two of the mounting holes lined up on the rear deck of my 2006 Honda Accord, could not use the other two mounting screws.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield shipped them faster than I expected! These speakers were a great replacement to the factory Boston Acoustics paper cones I had in my front doors. I have a fatory 276 watt 6 channel digital amp. So that's about 46 watts doing to these. The bass response is low compared to my stock speakers, but I think that is because I'm not using a better aftermarket amp. Overall, great price for excellent speakers!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

5 Stars For Crutchfield! Recommed anyone to buy from this company. Speakers: 5 Stars, great price, great sound. A high quality speaker for a very low price. This price range is unheard of for this type of quality sound. Highs are nice clear and crisp, mids are good to very good (can't say it's excellent though). Lows are good to very good for may taste of music (heavy metal, rock, instrumentals), I don't listen to Hip Hop or Rap music. If you're looking for car shaking, neighbor disturbing bass you won't find it in these speakers nor anyother 6X9 setup. Get a Sub! Installation on a 1997 Civic Sedan was a walk in the park. I didn't follow the master sheet that came with may purchase. I simply removed the original factory speakers buy breaking off the plastic screw inserts with a vice grip from the under side of the speakers and removing the speaker from the truck. I installed the Infinity's from the under side using the speed clips that came with the speakers. Done Deal! If you do need to follow the master sheet for some reason, get someone to help you. In this case, 2 sets of hands will come in handy. I know, I did it (not fun)! Aloha, Darren

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price, these speakers are really nice. Great highs, excellent lows. Midrange is a little mushy, but acceptable. Compared to my factory setup, these are a night-and-day differance. The only quibble I have is that they don't fit quite right in the back deck of a 2001 Mazda Protege. I was only able to get 3 of the 4 screw holes to line up.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I hate to leave a bad review because I have ordered from Crutchfield in the past and done great. That ended when I bought these speakers. Although I have an 09 Corolla (which wasn't listed on the outfit your car list), I was assured by the chat guy that they could get me the instructions I needed no problem. I bought these speakers and another set of Kappa's for the front door. I call to get the right instructions, they don't have them. I say ok, I have installed speakers before, I can do this. Following the wrong instructions I managed to break several clips in the back of the car in route to installing these. I finally get it pieced back together as best I can, I head down the highway and put on some 50 cent, and pop and click is what I hear for bass. i try some other songs, but the same result. I'm glad other people had a good experience with them, but not me. I am giving a 2 star rating and not a 1 because of the no hassle return policy.

These have got to be some of the best 6X9'S i have heard or used. I have a terrible headdeck right now that i will upgrading to the kdc-x991 and i cannot wait to hear how they sound like with that unit. They already hit really nice with only about 12 watts going to them. Lot's of bass!! I will be amping them real soon here. I highly recommend these.

2004 Civic EX. Insane pain to install. Rear seats, entire trim set, back deck panel, all came out. And I also didn't have matching screw holes. Almost cried. BUT...they maintain crystal clarity at max head unit volume. They have a pretty good overall full range sound. I can't say I'm overly impressed with the low end, but that's what subs are for. I'm running the Profile AP1040 amp giving them 110 watts each, and my gain's all the way down on the amp, and they're loud enough to kill small children with my volume all the way up on my Pioneer DEH-4000UB head unit. I'm happy with them.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like how they sound, but if you own a 2002 Civic EX, I would look into getting something else. It's a huge pain to even get to the back deck to install them, then I come to find that the holes don't line up so I still have to drill some extra holes so I can put all 4 screws in. I dunno if they are worth the effort. I'll probably be singing a different tune when I get them totally installed and hook up a 4 channel amp up to them and a sub.

Downright Awesome

Sportz03 from Bergen County, NJ on 4/1/2008

These speakers were a pain to put in my 2003 Grand AM, only because American cars are the worst possible cars to work on (they go by the metric system and everything is just so darn complex). Anyway i put these babies in the rear deck being powered by a kenwood kvt 617 reciever (no amp) and they sounded just fine. they even bumped a little at high levels. About 7 months later, i got a Profile 1000 Watt amp, and put 105 watts to both of these, and WOW the speakers came ALIVE! so much in fact it broke the factory bracket my speaker came with. the bass is outstanding, the mid range is BEAUTIFUL and sings like a bird, and the highs are incredible for such a large speaker. these truly are full range speakers, and i would reccomend them to anyone. not to mention they're inexpensive..

Pros:

Cons:

...Wow.

Tobey from Colorado on 2/6/2008

It took me 3 hours to install these in my Olds Intrigue because you actually have to rip the rear seat out to do it, but it was well worth the effort. I was a little worried when I pulled these from the box and found they weighed less than half of what the OEM speakers did... But all of that worry was blown away when I finally got listen to them. Highs are crisp, mids are rich and detailed, and the amount of bass they can pump out is downright absurd. You can actually FEEL it in the front seats, and I'm just powering them with the stock GM head unit! I see no reason to buy a sub with these in the car. These are hands down the best speakers I've listened to yet.

Alex from Fremont, CA on 2/3/2008

Installed these in my car and they sounded just ok until I have added JL audio's amplifier. Now they sound extremely well in pretty much all frequencies - even no sub woofer needed. Very good value for the price. Next step up would be twice as much and I doubt would sound much better.

I have to say, i am absolutly more than pleased. I originally bought some sony speakers that were cheap, but i got what i paid for, which was practically nothing. So thanks to Crutchfields AWESOME customer service i was able to send them back and got these instead. Holy cow is all i can say. I don't even have an amp and they sound amazing, i can't wait until i do get an amp. I'm running them off of an Alpine H.U. I installed them in my rear deck. If you want a nice upgrade from your factory speakers, look no further than that Infinity Kappa 62.7i.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These 6x9s are everything everyone else has said, Phenomenal bass, and awesome mids and highs. The new Nd magnets are light and compact, so mounting these speakers take up a lot less space than a traditional 6x9. I installed them into a 2001 grand am coupe. and you would swear there is a 12" sub in the trunk there is so much bass. My only critique is not on the speakers but Cruthfields installation notes. They did not fit like they said. I had to modify the factory cut outs slightly to clear the speaker framework. A minor inconvenience for an awesome upgrade. Check for a return set (which are garaunteed) and save a few bucks.

These speakers are the best that I have ever had. I totally reccomend these for everyone. The speakers are very good looking, the magnet is smaller in diameter that a soda can, and the sound very good. these speakers made my Pioneer 6 1/2 4-ways sound like stock. Very impressed in the volume of these, I thought my sterio was loud before but if your like me and you gotta play it loud to be proud get these. My only dissapointment was that 6X9 speakers dont fit in my front door, did I return them, No. I got a pair of sheet metal cutters and made them fit.

After i purchased these speakers i was having second thoughts, because I always do when I buy something, especially expensive, but I was completely releived when i heard these things, hooked on my amp!!! they are running at 50 watts per speaker (RMS) and the sound quality is incredible!!!! and they are loudddd, at 25% the volume you're reaching to cover your ears, NO JOKE, and thats 25% at 50 watts, these speakers can hold 110 watts RMS so, I definetly recommend them to anyone, its a really great speaker, i think its underpriced for what you get but that is not a problem for us

1996 Acura Integra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed a set of these in the rear deck of a '96 Acura and have been very pleased with the clean, accurate, and full sound. The low end is amazingly good considering I am not using a separate amp although my mid-to-high end head unit is rated above many for power output. The sensitivity of these speakers is very high so less power is required. I’ve had very good deck speakers in the past that were amp'd and I don’t recall hearing such a deep, solid low end. I installed new Polk 6.5” DB650 coaxials in the front doors with the intention of using the Kappas primarily for the lows but the Polks now just provide spatial balance as the Kappas are outstanding full spectrum speakers. I also used Dynamat on all four doors and portions of the rear deck which reduced road noise and eliminated any resonance with the sheet metal. With regard to installation, I had to trim off some plastic from the factory deck grills so they would still fit over the Kappas. Although the Kappas have external crossovers, there is nothing in the installation instructions (and little anywhere else) that explains the best way to secure the crossovers. I put mine in the space between the trunk liner and the sheet metal.

I purchased these speakers at the request of the Crutchfield sales associate and could not be happier. They sound wonderful and put out a lot of bass with the Infinity Amp I also purchased. I highly recommend purchasing an Amp to push these speakers, the best speakers I have installed yet. Very surprised.
I put them in the rear deck of my 90 Ford Crown Victoria, while there was plenty of room, these speakers did not fit exactly and I had to make a few modifications which based on the sound, was well worth it.
I recommend these speakers to anyone that likes loud, deep base in their car.

Andy

I bought these to install in the rear-deck of my 97 Honda Civic Sedan (w/o keyless entry). If you have my type of car and want these speakers in the rear-deck you will have a few issues BEYOND the installation allerts. This also goes for 96 and 98 years, too.

The speakers are GREAT in the rear-deck! They make a wonderful replacement to the factory speakers, even without additional amperage other than the SONY HU. Clear sound with very good frequency response.

I got them for $199.99, too. I wish they would have been on sale like the infinity reference speakers, but their value can be heard.

In the front doors I had Infinity Reference speakers installed and A Sony CDX-GT400. Worth the investment...when paired with an amp

Jonathon from East Lansing, MI on 7/28/2006

With the exception of Dodge and Chrysler automobiles with factory optioned Infinity systems, these speakers are my first exposure to Infinity car audio.

Pros: I am quite pleased with the ability of these speakers to play loudly with minimal effort. My Alpine MRP-F250 4-channel amp has never strained because these Kappas are so sensitive. The gain in nearly at the minimum on my amp, and my Alpine 9856 never reaches beyond 1/2 of max volume to reach ear-bleeding levels. Overall, the bass response is quite tight with natural sounding midrange. The rotating tweeters allowing for more precise imaging are nice options as well.

Cons: When really pushed, the bass distortion is definitely audible. For me, this is not an issue, because I have them high-passed at 80 Hz. However, for those running these speakers off an HU, options are more limited and you may notice some distortion. Also, the highest ranges of treble (above 8-10 kHz) are somewhat artificial sounding. I'm not sure if this is a result of being located in the rear deck and acquiring some gain from the rear glass, but it is noticeable.

Overall, a wonderful speaker I plan on owning for a long time. Please pair it with the proper amplifier to get the most out of it...it deserves more than an HU amp.

Inifinity quality and 3 year warranty for 200 bucks? No better deal!

frank from Fort Jackson on 6/24/2006

For my ears, Infinity are the best. I have these installed in the front doors of my 2003 Camry and they get 60 watts rms each while my 12" Vega gets 150 watts (bridged) that's left. Mids and highs are awesome and crystal clear. I went with the larger 6x9 versus a 6 1/2 or other "easier fitting" speaker in order to get a balanced sound instead of the common "subs in the trunk" sound. I figured the 6x9 would give me increased bass response up front. Unfortunately, they don't seem to play very low although I am continuing to tweak and tune my amp/ crossover settings. I believe being in the rear deck, using the trunk as an enclosure, versus the doors accounts for the reviews which proclaim the "sub-like" bass response.

These speakers are loud. no question about it. But everybody out there listening to indian or pakistani music is gonna suffer. such music has alot of high pitch vocals (celine dion type) which sounds like crap coming out these speakers. i powered these speakers with a MB Quart 4 x 100rms amp. These speakers are not good for high pitch vocals they will HURT your ears.
In addition to the first problem. I dont think they produce realistic highs. It all sounds to amplified and tinny. i dont like these speakers at all.I dont know what people are raving about. I have tried the kenwood 6 x 9s i tried boston acoustics. And finally i settled for Polk db690. they produce realistic sound well balanced and they dont distort at high volume.

so much for the speakers, Let me tell you the most important part. i was able to do all this coz i bought stuff from crutchfield. I cannot even imagine how many times i have returned stuff and with NO HASSLE. Customer service is by far the best. I dont even get such customer service even if you walk in a store like circuit city and best buy. and if the guy helping you is good he usually doesnt have the knowledge. I have never experienced better customer service than crutchfield. How can you beat free liftime technical support. i have called several times for tech support. It's final: I'm an Infinity man.

I bought these Kappas for my rear panels in my 92 Pathfinder and Infinity Reference 6012si speakers in the front doors. These 4 Infinity speakers are running off the factory head unit and they still sound UNBELIEVABLE.
After I installed it, I drove around the block for 2 hours just listening to these speakers.
These Kappas kick and provide bass just as sweet and low as my friends 8" subs do. They also have amazingly clear highs.
As amazing enough as it sounds, I'd be doing it an injustice if I just left it as it was. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was very happy with these speakers. Out of the box they look cool and are made out of some serious material, and have tight looking heat sink. I put these in a interga and they did not fit the factory mounts, they have the standard 4 hole mounts but are just a little off to use all 4 screws. But I am a big fan of infinity and kept telling myself that it was going to be worth the extra effort.
So what I did is I cut strips of dynamat to fit in the bracket where the speaker drops in and made it thicker on one corner(where I left out the screw) and only used 3 screw to secure it, and no vib/buzz

Once I was ready to put them into my car the back part of the speaker hit my rear deck and I had to cut part of it out so it would drop in all the way and so I could secure it. Again I kept telling my self that it was going to be worth it. Once I did that and hooked them up I found out that my amp that I had was no good. I then ran them off the factory deck in my car and they sounded super clean, even close to max volume, but a little bass to them and they bump even off of the stock deck, but they were thirsty for more power. I ordered 2 (1 for the 6x9 and 1 for my sub) profile amps 100X2 and used this for their power and WOW. I have never heard music so loud, (even at concerts) and it was clear and sharp and it bumps its like having a 8" sub NO JOKE. I have the infinity reference in the front and dynamated speaker kits for the front doors, and a 10" MTX thunder 6000 in a sealed box with 300 watts RMS going to that. It is all that I could ask for I listen to several different kinds of music, Rap bumps hard and the Rock is so clear and crisp. Best Spk, $ out

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these for in my 1999 cavalier sedan. The installation was a little rocky needed to cut sheet metal to get them to fit right even though listed as a fit. They really really sound great and i cut out holes for them to fit up through in the rear deck and what a difference that made. They do pound pretty good for only speakers running 22 rms off a pioneer head unit. So i would definately buy them again.

Infinity Kappa 692.7i

Adam from Crawford Nebraska on 8/8/2005

I bought these speakers to replace my stock speakers in my 1993 plymouth voyager, iv been running them for about a month now and im telling you... these speakers will pound bass just about as good as the the average 8 inch sub would. These also push the best highs i have ever heard out of a speaker...im running these on the pioneer deh-6700mp which also contributes to the great quality of these speakers. Ill recommend these to anyone who wants to make they're ride sound unbelievable and untouchable.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Infinity Kappa 692.7i (6x9) delivers clear booming world class sound. You will not be disappointed with this purchase. I replaced the Bose stock speakers in my Acura Legend, which had a good sound. It hails in comparison to what the Infinity Kappa 692.7i (6x9) has delivered. Two thumbs up and a five star rating.

Top of the line

Matt from Rock Island, IL on 7/20/2005

I have had these speakers in my 89 Bonneville SSE for about a year (along with the infinity 5 1/4 component system and infinity 12 vq sub) and these babies just make everything sound great even when the bass is turned up. These speakers along with all Infinity speakers are highly recommended by me if you care about sound quality.

Features

Plus One Woven-Glass-Fiber Woofer Cones: The Plus One speakers use cones approximately 30% larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One design offers greater bass output and a significant increase in efficiency.

Woven-Glass-Fiber Woofer Cones: This woven-glass-fiber material is very light and extremely stiff, minimizing cone flex. This results in very low distortion and improved clarity.

Motor Structure: The new Kappas use a Neodymium motor structure with an integrated heat sink. This design provides a massive amount of energy while minimizing mounting depth and magnet diameter. The integrated heat sink cools the motor structure efficiently, thus increasing power handling while reducing distortion.

1" Edge Driven MMD Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" Edge-driven MMD (Metal Matrix Diaphragm) dome tweeter. The benefit is increased power handling and reduced distortion at high output. This technology also allows for better integration with the mid/woofer. The tweeter has an adjustable output level, +0 dB (flat) and +3 dB.

UniPivot Tweeter: The UniPivot tweeters are angled (non-adjustable) and may be turned up to 350 degrees for optimum imaging and in-car frequency response.

Note: The tweeters are not made to turn 360 degrees. If they are turned 360 degrees or more, they will be damaged.

SLI High-Output Design: This high output 2 ohm design extracts every watt from today's amplifiers and hi powered receivers, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4 ohm speakers).

Crossovers: Kappa speakers include computer-optimized, voice-matched crossovers, using audiophile quality air core inductors and polypropylene capacitors.

Crossover Connections: Each crossover has a 11" input lead terminated with bare wire and two 18" output leads, one for the woofer and one for the tweeter, terminated with female quick-slides. The female quick-slides connect to the male quick-slides on the speaker. The positive terminal on the woofer is 0.248" and the negative is 0.191". The positive terminal on the tweeter is 0.205" and the negative is 0.111".

Crossover Dimensions: L=4.332", W=2.076", H=1.205"
