Our take on the Infinity Primus PR6500cs

Vehicle manufacturers don't put much thought into stock stereo systems, and it shows. Uninspired vocals, muddy cymbals, and flabby bass are dead giveaways that you've got stock speakers. Install a set of Infinity's Primus PR6500cs 6-1/2” component speakers in your car and you'll notice a world of difference. Lifelike vocals, crisp cymbals, and well-defined bass await you, and cruising around town will be more enjoyable as you get pulled into your favorite tunes.

Infinity Primus PR6500cs component system

Infinity includes several mounting brackets for the 3/4" textile dome tweeter.

Built with home audio know-how

Infinity used technology from their popular Primus home speakers to design car speakers that offer strong performance without breaking the bank. The separate 3/4" edge-driven, textile dome tweeter broadcasts smooth high frequencies while an oversized, Plus One+ polypropylene woofer creates solid bass. The external crossover makes sure the woofer and tweeter get the right signals for the best possible performance. The speakers' 3-ohm impedance safely draws extra power out of your factory radio, aftermarket stereo, or an external amplifier, so you'll get a little more punch from your system. Grilles are included.

Installation note #1: These Infinity speakers don't use the standard bolt pattern, so you'll have to drill new screw holes to install them in most 6-1/2" speaker openings.

Installation note #2: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Product Highlights:

  • component speaker system includes 2 woofers, 2 tweeters, and 2 crossovers
  • 6-1/2" Plus One+ polypropylene woofer with hi-roll rubber surround

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speakers sound great! Plenty of low end, crisp high end. I only replaced the fronts, which have been blown since I bought the car. Should have done this long ago. Just ordered the non-component version of the speakers to replace the rears. Install was fairly easy for someone who doesn't do this on a regular basis. I'm glad Crutchfield included the new mounting brackets else I would have had to spend a lot of extra time ripping the old speakers out of their brackets, which didn't look to be an easy job. The documentation Crutchfield included on how to remove the door panels was also very useful.

Pros: Great sound, easy install

Cons: None so far

Very nice speakers and tweeters. Cross overs are easy to hide. Hooked up to a JVC double din stereo and driven by an Alpine 4 channel amp. Very clear and crisp. Can turn the volume up to 26. That's pretty loud for an old man that loves the old rock. You won't be surprised by the sound.

Pros: Very clean sound

Replaced OEM front speakers in 2010 Honda Civic Ex. They sound amazing thus far. Bass output is clean and much more defined. Factorey head unit and no amp. All one minus these speaker. VAST improvement! I would recommend them to anyone and especially for the price! I will try to add photos later that may help with tweeter installation WITHOUT making a mount for them ??

Cons: Highs are a bit bright right now but are still in break-in stage so this isn't really a con, per say.

2016 Hyundai Tucson
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Hi all. Just installed them today. In my 2016 Hyundai Tucson. Fun project!! Sounds much better now. Using the Stock radio(Non amplified). Crutchfield doesn't have Wiring Adapters available. So I had to Cut and Splice. But they did supply me the Wiring Diagram. The Crossover Module was mounted using the Supplied Allen Screws. Tool provided by Infinity. Right to the plastic door panel (Inside the Hyundai Doors)Used the Scosche Mounting Brackets for the Woofers. Infinity provides a gasket material to stick underneath the speaker basket. Some damping sheets under the Bracket. All is good. Had to make my own custom Tweeter Mounts. Easily accomplished with a trip to the local Home Center. Bought the Copper brackets for mounting copper pipes. Package calls them "1" Copper Clips". little Bending, Cutting and Drilling 1 hole. I cheated and used the SAE plugs from an auto parts store. The kind like used on a Battery Tender. This way the door panel can be removed without unscrewing the Tweeter wiring from the Crossovers. I will be powering these with a Kenwood Excelon 5 Channel Amp later.

Pros: Easily mounted in my 16 Tucson Screws and tool for mounting Crossover Small Tweeter Basket Sealing Gasket

Cons: No Speaker Leads Tweeters have Wires with Slide Connectors. Crossovers have Screw Terminals. Maybe I am missing a wire?? Open Box deal No supplied manual I purchased an "Open Box" The Speakers were sealed. The Crossovers had sticky glue around them?? Terminals don't appear to be used.

Great overall value!

2015 Honda CRV
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in my 2015 Honda CRV EX-L. As with any component system, installation required some cable routing. The crossover is small enough that I can fit right next to the door handle inside the door panel using a 3M double-sided tape. As compared to the factory speakers, the sound clarity has improved quite a bit. The improvement depends on the source type and the music genre. I found the most improvement when listening to USB-connected music (i.e., memory stick). I have not tried iPod/iPhone but I suspect they would even give better sound quality. The improvement in the radio is much less. I guess the radio amplifier in the factory stereo is not good enough. Satellite radio improvement is also on the low side. As for the genre, I found the most improvement while listening to instrumental music. You can hear all instruments and high-frequency content very clearly. When listening to pop music, the lack of bass is clear due to the lack of a proper sub-woofer system in the car. It has a factory sub but that is absolutely useless and do not give any noticeable bass. Considering the price, I think it is worthy of the all cost and installation effort if you enjoy driving your car and intend to use it in the long term.

Pros: Great built quality. Comes with many brackets for twitter mounting. Sensitive enough for factory stereos.

Cons: I could not find any major cons. Some minor issues: No installation cables comes with the product. You need to purchase the cable separately. Not expensive but you have to have it. Woofer installation screws provided are only one size. It was too long for my car. I had to buy shorter screws from Home Depot.

I once competed in IASCA car audio competitions in the early 90's, unfortunately my ears were exposed to some of the best car audio around.. this now becomes a problem when trying to get great sound "on the cheap". These Infinity Primus components are absolutely the best sounding speakers for the price, I couldn't be happier with the purchase.

Pros: great clear sound at a great price

Cons: can't find any!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome sound! Direct fit for a 2006 Silverado crew cab. Just remove the junk Made in Mexico speakers, wire your crossover and tweeter, and that's pretty much it. You'll have to cut out holes in the door panels for the tweeters that is probably the hardest part of this install but still pretty easy.... just take your time. Otherwise what a difference in sound, the sound is clear, the bass punches and the tweeters balance the rest of tones. Even with my factory head unit it sounds good.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Clean, crisp sound- huge improvement over factory speakers. Installation is straight forward with very few modifications necessary. In my '06 Tundra Access cab, I could use the stock tweeter mounts (I could have used the Crutchfield straps if I wanted the speaker right up against the grill on the door panel). I just had to trim the woofer mounting tabs a bit to elongate the mounting holes to fit the stock mounting holes. I mounted the crossover just below and back of the woofers by drilling holes in the metal door frame- lots of clearance between screw tips and window and between door panel and crossover there.

Pros: Easy install, great upgrade

Cons: none!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the factory junk speakers in the doors of a 16' Civic LX with these and they sound great even behind the factory deck. I mounted the tweets in the plastic cover over the rearview mirror. My only complaint is the crossover is a little fat so ended up mounting it inside the door next to the mids. I have a compact 4-channel alpine amp driving these and the rear kickers and the whole system sounds great. I had originally planned to install dynamatt but don't think it is going to be necessary. Make sure to get the mounting adaptors and wire harness which were included with the purchase when I bought them.

Pros: Nice sound at a good price.

Cons: Nothing yet.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound wonderful. I really feel the midrange may be the best I've heard in this price range. Speaking of price, although they aren't the cheapest out there, they are a HUGE bargain. These components up front and the matching coaxials in the rear(55w x 4) along with a 10" sub getting 200w fills my maxima with richly detailed sound. The punch of a snare drum sounds like the drummer is in my car with me. Very, very happy with these.

2009 GMC Sierra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My '09 GMC Sierra crew cab needed a sound upgrade in the worst way. The factory speakers were muddy and distorted. In my last vehicle I had Kicker components and they were good, but I wanted to find something with better clarity. Thanks to all of the reviews here, I decided to get this Infinity Primus set and I am so glad I did. I am running these on the two front channels of a cheap 800W amp (planet audio trq4.800) and a Pioner 10" sub bridged on the other channels. With the amps high pass filter on, these speakers sound amazing. The clarity is exactly what others talked about in their reviews. I am hearing sounds in the music that even my previous Kicker set wasn't picking up. The vocals are crisp and clear, the highs are sharp with amazing clarity but not ear piercing. I can't comment on their low frequency performance because I'm running a sub for that, but if you want to hear the details in your music, you'll be happy with these. I would recommend that you power then with an external amplifier to really maximize what these are designed to do. Even with my cheap amp, which is probably on pushing 50W RMS, they sound wonderful. Unless you know your way around car audio installation, I'd recommend professional install. Took me about 4 hours just to install these. I mounted the crossovers in the door panel, underneath the window/lock controls.

Pros: Excellent clarity with crisp highs and clear vocals. The mid range is full and with the proper amp and EQ settings, no distortion. High build quality.

Cons: - Tweeter mounting hardware did not work for my GMC Sierra. I had to custom fabricate a piece to install them in the factory tweeter locations. - No speaker terminals. Since you have to use aftermarket speaker wire regardless, they should include terminals

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this component system to upgrade my factory speakers. I gutted the factory woofer and tweeter and reused the factory mounting brackets for both. Installation was actually pretty straight forward after that. Sound wise these speakers are outstanding with high end and midrange. More clear, detailed and precise. The factory speakers by comparison were very muddy. That said, bass is mediocre. I will be installing compact powered subwoofer to fill out the low end. Bottom line - Great speakers at a reasonable price.

Pros: Outstanding mids and highs quality materials and construction

Cons: lacking deep base. requires a subwoofer to fill in low end

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you are looking for a better sounding speaker to use with your factory receiver, look no further. If you are the type of person like me, that will poor over reviews comparing one product to another, save your time. Bought these along with the equivalent coaxial for the rear doors for my 2013 Kia Sorrento. Even my wife, who typically could care less about sound quality, and wondered out load why I was replacing perfectly good speakers, marveled at the improved sound quality.

Pros: Did what I don't usually do and spoke to a Crutchfield advisor instead of pouring over reviews and specs. I didn't want to replace the outstanding UVO head unit in my 2013 Kia Sorrento. I went straight to the chat line and asked for a recommendation for speakers to use with the factory head unit. They recommended these and I can see and hear why. They are designed to play loudly and clearly with minimal wattage input, and sound fantastic with the factory head unit.

Cons: None with the speakers at all. For any Sorrento owners out there, do not waste your time with the universal speaker brackets supplied. You will get a much cleaner and nicer installation if you simply gut out the factory speaker, and re use the factory speaker housing.

I've never been disappointed with an InfinityInfinity product, and this time was no different. Much bigger, fuller sound than was expected, and I haven't even maxed out the speakers yet.

Pros: Wonderful sound out of these component speakers. Exceeded my expectations!

Cons: Unfortunately no one makes a speaker to fit the stock opening in the doors of my 2003 Sequoia, but with some clever modification, I made these 6.5 in woofers fit just fine. No other real complaints. I dig the hell out of these!

The speakers themselves work great. The sound very clear and can handle the power for the new head unit. They are replacing the infinity speaker that came with the factory sound system in my Jeep. Install was straight forward. Needed some extra wire and connectors to make it all work correctly.

Pros: Good quality for the price.

Worth the extra effort.

Scott C from Connecticut on 12/28/2015

2005 Jeep Liberty
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed woofers in front doors of a 2005 Jeep Liberty along with butyl based sound deadening material. Tweeters mounted in factory dash location. Ran new wire from tweeters to the crossovers that I placed behind the head unit. Used factory wiring for the woofers. Pair well with the Infinity Primus PR6502is coaxials I put in the back doors. Set my high pass filter at 50hz so these aren't getting more than they can handle.

Pros: Having the tweeters away from the woofers really opens up the sound stage. After tweaking all the adjustments on my head unit the sound is immersive. Listening to Blow Your Face Out it's like having Peter Wolf on my left, J. Geils on my right and Magic Dick blowing his harp behind me.

Cons: No wire or connectors included. Supplied tweeter brackets did not fit my 2.75" dash speaker openings. I cut the factory speakers from their frames, epoxied sheet plastic onto the frame and then used supplied cups to mount the tweeters.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these on my Mk4 Golf in all four doors. They sound great, though I would.hily recommend installing some 1" deep brackets to push the speakers out from the door wall to improve acoustics. These speakers aren't as deep as the factory ones, but much better quality.

Pros: Lots of tweeter mounting options. I choose to place mine behind the factory grills and fabricated the versatile mounting brackets. There are others that allow for surface mounting either with or without swivel.

Cons: Would have loved a 1" spacing bracket and extra foam to push the speakers out to factory specs.

they are supposed to be good speakers. After easy installation, they don't sound great, in fact, not good at all. Mid and lows are lacking clarity kind of soft and humming. I tested them on the same channel as my factory speakers (VW EOS 2008) and there is no comparison: the VW factory have way more detail. Also the sound stage is just non existent - it almost sounds mono. Replacing them with Polks.

Pros: none

Cons: they sound like $30 speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers replaced a pair of pioneer component speakers. The pioneer speakers that replaced the stock speakers sounded better that the stock speakers but these Infinity speakers were much better than the pioneer speakers. I was wondering if the difference would be audible and it is very much so. The infinity speakers are much cleaner sounding with crisp highs and strong mids enhancing vocals and instruments. When deciding whether these speakers would be a good fit for you keep this in mind: 1) These speakers will sound their best when using an amp with them , don't rely on stock power , if you do not use an amp don't be surprised when they don't sound like you thought they should sound. 2) I've seen reviews knocking these speakers for not having much bass, people these speakers are for highs and mids, they are NOT designed to wow you with their bass. You should have a subwoofer(s) for bass not component speakers. They do however produce acceptable mid-bass. These are very good sounding speakers for the price

Pros: crisp highs and strong midrange, handle power well, no distortion

Cons: need amp(s) to sound like they are capable of and you will need a subwoofer. (which you should have anyway)

These speakers are great replacement speakers. Loud and clear. Need to have wire on hand to wire the speaker parts depending on the installation. Not a bad thing....just saying.

Pros: Great sound, and quality. I love them. No regrets.

Cons: The only issues I had was in a SCION XB 2004, the rear speaker is smaller than the front. The issue is the adaptor kit sold by crutch field (Though may be right for other speakers, does not fit without modifying the speakers. I had to bend the speaker tabs down around the door adaptors and screw them down thru the side. This speaker has surround foam where many others have mounting holes, I don't blame Crutchfield, but just letting you know, this speaker should not be used for the back

Easy installation. The directions were spot on for my 2010 Sienna Van. The tweeters were a battle, but only because I'm stubborn and insisted on installing them in the factory locations. Would have been easier to use the sail panels, but I wanted everything to look stock. I ended up installing the crossover directly under the tweeter, which made wiring a lot simpler.

Pros: Great, crisp and detailed sound. Easy installation.

Cons: Confusing array of tweeter mounting brackets made for quite a bit of extra recycling that week.

Went from MTX Terminator's, to Crescendo's, to these, and I must say I'm VERY impressed with the build quality of these speakers. Very solid design, and you can tell no cheap parts are thrown in these. They don't really have much bass response, but that isn't really a con because that's not what they're designed for. There mids and highs, and let me tell you what: they thump mids hard, and have crisp clean highs. I'm amping these on a "vintage" 1990 Kicker amp that pushes these puppies to their limits. I'm a very happy customer.

Pros: -Hit's mids hard, and highs are crisp and clean -No cheap construction here -Included tweeter mounting brackets are plentiful, giving you several options for mounting -Small, easy to mount crossovers

Cons: -No bass response (although that's not what these are designed for, so not even a real con -Wire connections on tweeters could be strong, though once installed won't be an issue at all. Just don't abuse them before install. Haha.

Pros: Very easy to install. The directions for the components couldn't be any easier to install. Crutchfield is the greatest at DIY stereo install

Cons: The only con is that I didn't replace my speakers a year ago when I got the car. Lol

I've always stayed away from components in the car because of the complexity of installation. Crutchfield's ultra detailed (And ACCURATE) installation instructions (and customer Support!) helped me sort out the complexity, so I thought I'd give it a try. Woofers in the door, Tweeters in the dash, using jeep's stock wiring with just a little modification. Let's just say, WOW! I have not heard such accurate staging and sound reproduction in a relatively set of cheap car speakers before. Outperformed my Focals in my old car. Really.

Pros: Staging. Voice reproduction. Sound Quality. Efficiency. Crisp highs, solid midbass. I put on Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations # XIV, and let's just say WOW at the reproduction. Solid and faithful across the entire dynamic range, too .

Cons: Absent ultra low bass. But not designed to thump anyway, being only 6" across and door mounted.... but that's what the upcoming sub is for... :-) But hey, is this really a con?

I purchased 2 pr. Infinity PR6500cs separates as well as Dynamat speaker kit, and 4sq' of Dynamat. I removed all enclosures in my 2014 4DR Jeep Wrangler, and custom mounted tweeters , dynamat all enclosures then used polyfil as well. Installation was spot-on PERFECT and I couldn't be more pleased with the overall sound (from my stock touchscreen Jeep radio) The efficiency of the Infinity system is key , and the build quality is very good. I'm sure would sound better yet with an amp , but is just fine with stock power. Plenty of good bottom end , through the vocals and clear highs without being harsh. Total install was probably about 8 hours ) would do it again in a heartbeat !

Pros: good build quality and sound , if you take your time and do the install correctly you can get the best out of these speakers ! Dynamat and polyfil will help bass immensely !

Cons: speaker trim rings that came with set up , did not match at all to Jeep. Cutting and re-drilling required.

Sound great, much better than stock speakers. Not to bad too install, after I got everything figured out. Infinity had me puzzled on installation gear in the box. Tweeters had plugs on end of wires, but no plug-in on crossovers, just clamp screws. No wires too hook-up woofers to crossovers. I bought some cheaper component speakers a year ago, and they had all the wires too do the job.

Pros: Sound

Cons: Lack of wires

Pros: Very fast shipping, harness connectors so factory harness was left intact included, Tech help was easy to understand.

Cons: I had to buy a few things to make everything work, new speakers had a cross-over and factory speakers didn't. Speaker wire, connectors, super glue, were needed which added 25 dollars give or take.

I have these in a PT Cruiser with a Kenwood KDC-X399 eXcelon I purchased here on Crutchfield. These have a very wide range and sound great. I have a Kenwood KSC-SW11 powered subwoofer under the passenger seat. I have the crossover on it cut down to about 60hz. That is how good the bass sounds with these Infinity Primus speakers. They need very little help on the low low end. I do not have them driven by an external amplifier. It isn't needed unless you just listen to music at insane volumes. These speakers are supper high efficiency and it shows by their performance with just the head units amp. IN another car of mine I have a sub and all the speakers amplified and it does not sound as good as this combo. That car has a Pioneer head unit with Pioneer component speakers in the front doors. 6X9 Rockford Fosgate in the rear deck and a 7" subwoofer in the rear deck. All the speakers have external amp power. To get good bass I have to set the sub's crossover at about 120hz.

Pros: High efficiency and wide dynamic range. Sound is excellent just from the head units amp.

Cons: Could have come with wiring to connect from the crossover to the speakers.

Not happy with these speakers. The sound is too much treble hooked up to my car's stock receiver. I love Harman products, I believe they sound magnificent. I have a 2013 Hyundai Veloster with 4 mids, 2 tweeters, RMS 200watts. I was initially going to get kickers, but then changed my mind the last minute and that was a mistake. I got the speakers professionally installed, and the tweeters are great, lots of clarity. Then the woofers don't pack bass at all!!!!! It's like a "woof" turned up. Considering the stocks with the smaller magnet make better bass, I am disappointing with these. Totally not worth the price. Anyways.. going to try to use Dynamat to hopefully, increase bass.

Pros: little distortion, clarity,

Cons: no bass, too expensive, no bass again

Just replaced the factory speakers in my 2001 tahoe without the Bose system but with a factory sub. Extremely satisfied with the Infinity speakers. I ordered a pair for front and rear doors and the installation was easier than expected. The rear door tweeters I flush mounted them behind the factory grills and mounted the cross over behind the door panel just below the speaker. Looks all stock. Before my stereo sounded like an old transistor radio, now it sounds beyond my expectations.

Pros: Easy to install, sounds great for the price and exceeded my expectations

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Both woofers and tweeters sounded much clearer than my 10 year old stock speakers. Installation was much more complicated in a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee as additional wiring had to be run from the crossovers in the doors to the tweeters, and factory wires had to be spliced as well. Had to drill holes in the mounting brackets as none of the standard holes matched up with the speaker holes. Finally, factory amp had to be bypassed since it was incorrectly dividing the signal between the woofers and tweeters. There was a considerable amount of modification that had to be done in order to properly install, but the product performance once installed was fantastic.

This is the first time I have put in speakers in a vehicle that sounded worse than the stock speakers. The speakers in my 2001 Jeep Laredo were good except for the front dash speaker which had a torn cone. I put two sets of these in; front and back. I could here the sound quality going down as I checked each door as they were installed. I lost the full, smooth, rich sound of the stock Infinity speakers and got harsh, buzzy highs and bass that was not near as full sounding. These are coming out. The 14 year old stock speakers are going back in the rear doors and I'm going to try something else in the front. Having to hook up the tweeters in the rear doors was a lot of work and are going to leave holes in the door skins since I have to take them out. Don't buy these.

Pros: None

Cons: Non-standard hole spacing. You have to drill new holes to mount these. The adapter plates for the front didn't even have holes that would work. The cross overs were a pain to mount and these speakers sound horrid, unless you like harsh, buzzing highs.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in my '02 Silverado Crew Cab front doors. Crutchfield say "Fits with minor alteration", which is in my opinion a huge understatement. The factory tweeter brackets needed a 2.100 hole which removes the factory tweeter and opens the hole up large enough for one of the tweeter mounts to fit. Not something I expect most home garage installs would be equipped to do. It also came with no wiring at all, which was not clear, particularly with Crutchfield listing out all the supporting stuff including "wiring adapters" for the factory truck harness. Crutchfield also states an adapter bracket was included, but there was not bracket provided except in the speaker box for the tweeters. Only option was to mount the speaker frame direct to the door shell, which isn't a big deal, but not what I was lead to believe by the Crutchfield list of included product. All in all it took far longer and more equipment than expected for something listed as "Fits with minor alteration". Also, the cross-over is rather bulky and there was nowhere inside the door panel where these can be readily placed. I had to cut a bit out of the back of the door panel and cut off one of the studs that hold the tweeter bracket to the door panel in order to make a space big enough. I almost gave up and remote mounted it under the dash, there just is no space under that door panel, and I'm not quite sure why that box needs to be that bulky, but that was my experience.

Pros: Once the moderately painful install was done, with tweeters in their adjustable angle mounts pointing at the opposing seat occupant, it sounds fantastic in the high to mid-range. Symbols are so clear it sounds like you are right there in person.

Cons: Incomplete install package or details on "Fits with minor alteration" is the biggest thing. Base is not great, but not bad.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've installed a pair of these on a 2010 civic DX-G sedan with factory radio. The civic is a really noisy car so I installed Dynamat Extreme on each front door. The sound quality is unbelievable! Old speakers sounded like s**t. I am totally amazed by the clarity over the full frequency spectrum. Bass is amazing and punchy. Overal sound is much louder and distortion free. Volume level can now be raised up to 30 with excellent sound quality. I wonder how much this satisfaction is caused by the Dynamat sound proofing. For sure, Dynamat is a must on this noisy car since it made a significant difference reducing road noises even only doing the front doors; I will likely do the rear doors too since road noise is now clearly comming from the rear! I did not change the rear speakers and this is not really required. I adjusted the fader to be almost full front since the sound image is so good and wide with the tweeters now located inside the dash. Beware: routing wires from the door to the dash is not an easy thing, especially on the driver's side. I insisted in having no visible wires so it took me several hours just to do that. I've put duct tape around the tweeters to snug them inside the grill. Conclusion: hard work but a much enjoyable Civic!

Pros: Fits well. Awesome sound. Good adaptor parts from crutchfield. I love dynamat!

Cons: This was for my wife's car and it now sounds better than my 2003 Maxima (which also has Infinity component speakers). Life sucks! You'll need a few feets of extra speaker wire and have to perform new connections for the woofers and tweeters. I had to do a bit of soldering too. Routing wires from the door to reach the tweeter location over the dash is a patience killer; do some research to find a tip to do that.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Warning! Despite what the website says, these will not fit an e46 BMW 3-Series! My car had the factory HK with nav. The speakers are too big not only for the doors and rear deck, they don't even fit the adapter brackets that Crutchfield sent with them! Called tech support - guy said that they their form factor is not cataloged properly. From what I have seen, if you were to order these in the 5 1/4 size, they should work OK. I spent 10 hours fabricating to shoehorn them in and it was not fun or pretty. Sound-wise, they are good. I am still using the stock amp (with aftermarket head unit) and I feel like the factory amp is not able to drive them to their full capacity. I think it is because of this that I am not feeling the thump that I was hoping for. They are better than stock, but I think to get a difference that is worth the work, you need to plan for a new amp. Also, factory amp has built-in crossovers, so the ones that come with these speakers are not necessary. Tried them with and without - better, fuller sound without them. Make sure not to wire the tweaters into crossover box - use the factory tweater plug, else yours will make no sound as the amp is not pushing the high frequencies to the woofers.

Pros: Good speakers - better than stock.

Cons: Didnt fit, despite what the website said - read full review. Crutchfield also does not carry a 2" midrange speaker, to replace stock, so you have to hunt for those.

Crutchfield response on 10/8/2014 We're sorry to hear about the difficulties you've had with installation. Our Tech Support team gave the details of this installation to our research teams and they'll adjust our database accordingly. Generally speaking, you should always consider adding an external amplifier to power component speakers. These Infinity speakers are designed to work well on stereo power, but they'll really sound their best when you give them the higher power of an external amp. Remember, the closer you get to their upper RMS rating (80 watts, in this case), the better they'll perform.

I installed these on my 18 year old Volvo 850 Turbo, Platinum Edition Wagon. The car came with an excellent stereo from the factory, as car stereos go. It has a 40 watt per channel head unit that is relatively clean even now. But the speakers were getting tired and the tweeters on the coaxial rear doors were broken, so it was time for some new speakers. The infinities required some modifications to the car because the mounting set up was odd for the Volvo. In the end with digital, music vs. radio they have suppressing good bass for their size. Their sensitivity is appreciated in a car of that volume, it is a lot of space to fill and they do it well. The highs from the tweeters are smooth. Nice speaker running it off the factory head unit.

Pros: Good bass, efficient, nice smooth tweeters.

Cons: Lousy instructions, no wire with the kit, mounting hardware a bit cheap. The speakers lack a b bit in the midrange.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've always been a fan of Infinity Audio products since they came out. These bad boys are super loud and ultra clear. I installed them a Range Rover with a 300 watt 4-channel amp, and they are great. If tuned right, you can hear the speakers from 3 football fields away. They sound clean at all volumes and received many compliments from people. Bottom line is, this is the best set of speakers I've ever owned after Alpines, Rockford Fosgates, Kicker, Pioneer, JVC etc.

Pros: Easy installation, great sound quality, compact tweeters, and high quality voice coils

Cons: none so far.

I am not impressed with this speaker. To me these speakers are all treble. The highs are not harsh or too bright but also not as detailed or clear as I would have expected. Vocals sounded very quiet and as if they were far away. Similarly priced Alpine, Pioneer, and Kenwood speakers sounded better to me in every way.

Pros: Crutchfield has a good return policy so it won't hurt to try them out. Maybe it's just me.

Cons: I honestly don't like anything about these speakers. This surprised me as I wanted to like them and assumed they would sound different.

Much better speakers for the Ford Focus (2012)

Pros: Greater volume and a better sound than Fords speakers, these are a good choice.

Cons: Had to tear the Ford speakers apart, removed the speaker from the plastic adapter that is really part of the Ford speaker. Then drilled holes to mount the Infinity speakers, made a neat install that way. You can see this method on U tube, search for "Upgrading the Ford Focus ST stereo", technique works on all Focus' I think.

I bought this set after blowing out a stock speaker in my 2012 chevy colorado. I put them in and the factory stereo just did not have the proper power so I had virtually no mid bass. I bought a pioneer amp and really got to hear these bad boys turned up. The sound is excellent and clear. Couple them with a sub and it would almost be like a home theater system!!

Pros: Great with an amp

Cons: Not much mid bass without amp

I purchased this kit to upgrade my Bose system and have been very impressed with the clean and clear high rang reproduction. I however was hoping to have a little better mid-range performance but I am convinced the issue is not the mid drivers but the power and/or signal being sent from the factory head unit. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these speakers myself in my 2004 Chevy Colorado. Instructions were fairly straight forward and the sound is 100 times better than my factory speakers. I purchased this particular speaker based on the reviews and that they had separate tweeters that I thought would replace my door tweeters. However there were no instructions, hardware, or wiring to connect the new tweeters in my door panels. I called tech support and his best advice was to cut a hole in the panel and use the mounting hardware that came with the speakers. If I had known that to start with I wouldn't have purchased the speaker set with the tweeters and just would have bought the door speakers. Crutchfield should add a note to the fitment guide to reflect that the tweeters may require additional door modifications to mount. Overall satisfied especially with the sound improvement, but fitment guide could've been better.

Pros: Great sound.

Cons: Fitment guide needs to be improved.

These speakers sound incredible. They are close to a Bose sound as you are going to get for the price. I installed them in my 2010 accord and the only advice that I can give is make sure the speaker connectors are between the 2 mounting studs/ plastic pieces(on the adapter) because if you don't, the speakers will ground on the door and short out your connection. I used industrial Velcro for mounting the crossover inside the door and mounting the tweeter in the factory grill. Velcro makes it easy to remove later on and hold its in place.

Pros: Easy to read instructions and speakers sound great.

Cons: Will not handle too much bass.

Great speakers / difficult installation

Mike R from Athens,GA on 2/2/2014

These speakers get a 5 star rating for their sound. The 2 star demerit is for Crutchfield saying these will fit a 2002 Subaru outback with "minor alteration". Not even close. The speakers have a four hole mount pattern and the factory mounting brackets have three. The speakers mounting tabs are larger than the factory brackets so it wasn't as simple as drilling new holes. Fortunately I have access to a machine shop and was able to make custom mounts. As a result the installation took 6 hours. This could have been easily avoided if Crutchfield had a simple plastic adaptor made that allows speakers with 4 hole to mount in place of the 3 hole factory bracket. I did not have to cut out the back of the factory bracket as noted in the installation details. If you are considering these for your Subaru and don't have access to a shop like I did, I would not recommend getting these speakers, which is to bad as they sound amazing.

Pros: Despite the difficult installation the sound was amazing. The detail, clarity and base was outstanding for speakers this small. Infinity supplies a whole box full of mounting adapters which give you many options for mounting the tweeters.

Cons: Infinity (or Crutchfield) could have provided enough connectors to properly connect the (included) wiring to the tweeter and crossover . Keep a bunch on hand to connect these properly.

These are my first component speakers that I have bought for my car. They come with a converter for the tweeters and the woofers. I have a volkswagen passat with the monsoon system. When I did the installation I noticed the tweeters and the woofers had there seperate wiring so I decided to wire the converter to my woofers. I like to play music loud and with bass and I noticed that since the tweeters were hooked up to my bass it was trying to produce bass which led to the tweeters being very staticky and scratchy which I didn't like so i then went back and wired the tweeters back to the tweeter wires and I noticed a big difference.the sound is amazing now, it is very crisp. So personally I didn't need the converter but it is a nice addition for cars without built in tweeters.

I replaced the factory component system in a VW Jetta (with the Monsoon audio system) so I was starting from a higher level already, but these new speakers sound outstanding. I've been involved with mobile audio for almost 40 years so I've upgraded many different systems and this was one of the most dramatic improvements I've ever heard. Great imaging and separation plus the accuracy and efficiency or these components is amazing, well worth the price and the overall effort. Highly recommended.

Pros: High quality components, perfect fit, a generous assortment of mounting hardware for the tweeters and crossovers, a big improvement in sound quality.

Cons: The overall project (including the new head end) took up the better part of a weekend even with the excellent Crutchfield directions. Allow plenty of time to solve any mounting challenges.

1998 Tahoe: 6500cs in factory door locations- Front lower door panel for the midbass, mid/upper door panel for the tweeter. Using passives. Alpine 4ch Amp. Crap HU. Soundstorm 4ch Amp. Sundown SA-8 v.1. This was my first set of components in this price range, I've always had higher quality sets but am in a bit of a quandary after buying another vehicle and desperately need something to replace the OEM garbage. The tweeters are decent, they're a textile dome, so they're a bit brighter than a silk dome and not quite as harsh as an aluminum dome, but still have pretty decent detail for the price The tweeters also come with a mounting pod that rotates and swivels, which makes playing with them on and off axis much easier in factory locations(also includes top-mount and flush-mount options). They lack in their lower bass capabilities(that 53hz the details speak of). If you don't like your music LOUD, it they will probably be ok going down to 65hz or so. I have them crossed at 100hz, because they distort any lower than that at 3/4 volume at roughly 62-63rms per side. They have not had enough time to break in yet, so they should loosen up a fair bit more and will probably have better response. Once they go through their break in period they will be getting 200rms per side. The speakers I rated 3/5, but I would have rated them 2.5/5 if possible(as compared to speakers in general). For the price, I'd rate them 4/5, if you're comparing it to other NEW similarly priced equipment.

Pros: The tweeters seem pretty crisp and detailed for the price, not harsh, but it isn't that natural sound you get from a silk dome either. Great for an OEM replacement price and sound much better. Build quality seems better than the price would have you think.

Cons: Run a sub with them, since they lack in the bass department. These are a 3OHM speaker, which can make amplification a little more awkward/pain-in-the-butt/expensive. Make sure your amp is 2OHM stable.

Plus One Woofer Cones: The Plus One speaker cones offer more surface area than other speakers that fit in the same size opening. This is accomplished by using a new basket design and hi-roll surround. The result is greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Mounting: Infinity markets these speakers as 6-1/2"; the woofers will fit in standard 6-1/2" speaker openings (approximately 5" diameter), but they do not use the standard 6-1/2" speaker bolt pattern. In order to install them in standard 6-1/2" applications you must drill new screw holes. The woofers are easily installed in many standard 4-hole 6-3/4" applications with no modification.

Tweeter Mounting: The I-Mount tweeter mounting system and Starfish mounting brackets give you several different ways to mount the tweeters:

  • I-Mount Mounting System: The tweeters can be surface or flush mounted:
    • Surface Mount: Surface mounting the tweeters involves screwing the surface-mount cup to the mounting location, then inserting and locking the tweeter into the cup.
    • Flush Mount: Flush mounting is made easy through the use of the threaded flush-mount housing and plastic locking nut. Once a cutout is made, the tweeter is installed in the flush-mount adapter, then into the flush mount housing and inserted into the hole. The large plastic locking nut is threaded onto the adapter (from behind the mounting surface) to hold the complete assembly securely in place. When flush mounted, the tweeters may be angled for optimum response and imaging.
  • Starfish Mounting Brackets: The Starfish mounting brackets allow the tweeters to be installed in factory locations behind the grilles:
    • Bottom Mount: Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is secured to the underside of the grille panel. The tweeter must be inserted into the bracket and locked into place before the bracket is mounted.
    • Surface Mount: Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is screwed to the top of the mounting surface behind the grille panel. Then, the tweeter is inserted into the bracket and locked into place.
    • Flush Mount: There are two sets of tabs to flush mount the tweeter in the Starfish bracket, yielding different mounting dimensions. The upper tabs mount the tweeter completely below the opening and are glued in place. The lower mounting tabs are screwed in place and result in a mounting height just under a half inch. Once the bracket is mounted, the tweeter is inserted into the bracket and locked into place.

Crossovers: The 1st order 2-way crossovers' inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will accommodate bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.3" wide. There are four mounting holes in each crossover.

Crossover Dimensions:

  • Width: 2.165"
  • Height: 0.97"
  • Depth: 2.207"

3-ohm Voice Coil: The Primus Series speakers feature 3-ohm voice coils to compensate for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring and extract every watt from the factory receiver, increasing overall system output and efficiency (relative to 4-ohm speakers). The speakers also benefit from increased power when you upgrade the wire and add aftermarket amplifiers capable of powering a 2-ohm load.

Power Handling: Although Infinity lists the continuous average RMS power handling as 80 watts, they also list the recommended power range as 5-200 watts RMS. We've opted to list the more conservative 80 watt RMS figure on the specifications page.

It should yield a little more power, about 25% more MAX power . . . That amp is working wonderfully in my car with 2 sets of SO 2 way components in 5.25" and a powered SO SW . . .[ Carlos  Jan 20, 2017 ]
Thsee speakers have excellent bass. The Infinity one+ speakers move the surrounds out to the very edge of the frame adding a lot of surface area to the cone. You won't find a speaker this size that performs better.[ A  Dec 22, 2016 ]
Not too bad. The tweeters are a little overwhelming if they are on the a pillar though.[ Daniel  Dec 21, 2016 ]
Yes, but I would recommend, in the future if you can't now, a separate power amp . . .[ Carlos  Jan 20, 2017 ]
if you are going to upgrade your speakers it is better to upgrade your receiver as well. i have never found that any stock radio can accommodate the power new speakers like these need nor the range needed, especially when components are involved. that's just personal preference though. you can always hook it up and buy the receiver later if it doesn't fit your needs sound wise. hope this helps[ JEFF  May 23, 2016 ]

I dont have a Volvo but I did have to modify the mount of the old speaker in the door panel to accomodate the new speaker. You might want to inquire wether the mounting kid for your vehicle addresss this because mine did not. I would suggest calling a technician over at Crutchfield to get more information as to wether their kid addresses this issue.[ Bruce  Dec 22, 2015 ]
The speak set comes with different mounting options so it very easy to replace the factory ones or find a new location like the pillor molding and door panl I have done both and came out great sorry for the late response hope this helps[ KERTTON  Aug 02, 2014 ]
Hey Rick,The tweeters in this kit are designed to only fit in the mounts that come with the kit. You mount which every (ill call the mount a cup) Tweeter cup fits your need, then the tweeter drops into the cup and does a 1/4 turn to lock into the cup. The three style cups that come with the kit mount by either getting a hole saw and the cup drops into the hole you cut andis held in with a large nut from behind, 2 or 3 legs off the cup for a screw mount and the third is a slim style cup that a single screw goes in the middle of the bottom of the cup and the tweetewr drops in (used these in the back of my car cuse they are small and have a nice finish). I have a 2002 Honda Civic SI Hatchback and i two worried about the mount because i have stock tweeter at the front corner of each of my front doors. The tweeters in the kit are smaller then im use to seeing. With that being said the cup that your suppose to use the hole saw for (after removeing my stock tweeter and tweeter screen) dropped right into my stock tweeter holes and i was able to mount the tweeters in the stock holes. I work as a mechanic and was surprised to find this. I'm not sure you will have the same result with your volvo but i will say im very happy with the qualitiy of sound for the price point. I hope this helps with your decision, I know how hard it can be when picking after market equipment because i too like a clean stock look.[ KURT J  Jul 22, 2014 ]
They come with a plastic "universal" mounting bracket that allows you to mount flush with a surface, recessed, or extending out of it, but they aren't the highest quality. I used them on my Tacoma, and they work well but I had to break most of the tabs off and use two of the screw anchors that come with the speakers to hold the bracket to the Tacoma factory tweeter location. Overall I have been very impressed with the quality of the speakers for the price, and you should be able to find a way to use the brackets, but it will probably be a "custom" job.[ JOEL  Jul 20, 2014 ]
Mounting tweets and highs is interesting. Typically you will run into them not fitting even if they should. I would mount the mids outside of the panel instead of inside. As for tweeters they are small so you can typically just cut holes and make them fit. I would not keep tweets behind a grill or mids because its going to slow the sound waves down which means it wouldnt sound the best. Tweeters can go anywhere so think about possibly removing the whole factor tweeter grill and mounting the tweeter in something else. TLDR They dont have to fit, make them fit its typically better.[ harry  Jul 20, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The Primus speakers handle enough wattage to work with an amplifier, but they are efficient enough to work with the aftermarket headunit as well. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.[ Krissy  Apr 28, 2014 ]  Staff
