Our take on the Infinity Reference REF-3022cfx

Hear the details you've been missing in your car's sound system. Infinity's Reference Series REF-3022cfx 3-1/2" speakers offer exceptional clarity, thanks to 1/2" balanced textile dome tweeters that bring out all the details in your music without sounding harsh.

It's all in the details

Hear the details you've been missing in your car's sound system. Infinity's Reference Series REF-3022cfx 3-1/2" speakers offer exceptional clarity, thanks to 1/2" balanced textile dome tweeters that bring out all the details in your music without sounding harsh.

Big woofer = big sound

The tough polypropylene woofer with its durable hi-roll rubber surround delivers surprisingly strong performance from such a small speaker. Each Plus One+ woofer sports a significantly larger cone than speakers of similar size, adding plenty of punch to the speaker's smooth and accurate highs.

Perfect for any power supply

You can power these speakers with up to 25 watts of RMS power — they'll work well with an external amplifier, but they're also a good match for a factory radio or aftermarket stereo. Plus, these 3-ohm speakers combine with the speaker wire in your vehicle so your car stereo sees actual 4-ohm impedance, so you get a little more volume out of your system. Grilles are not included — factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.

Product Highlights:

  • 3-1/2" 2-way speakers (pair)
  • Plus One+ polypropylene woofer cone with hi-roll rubber surround
  • 1/2" balanced textile dome tweeter
  • True Four Ohm Impedance technology: speaker's 3-ohm impedance combines with speaker wire impedance for a 4-ohm load
  • compatible with virtually all factory or aftermarket car stereos
  • handles up to 25 watts RMS (75 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 85-21,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 91 dB
  • top-mount depth: 1-7/16"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

What's in the Box:

  • Two 2-way speakers
  • 2 Adhesive backed foam gasket strips
  • Two 270 microfarad capacitors
  • Instruction manual
  • Template on box

First time ever installing speakers, they fit perfectly. The sound was amazing. Great speakers. Never realized how much a good set of speakers could transform even FM radio.

I Paired these speaker/tweeter combo with the component set 6x9's, they bring a whole new definition of music to my car, everything sounds fuller and clear, sadly they dont have a rear deck available for my car, but JL is just as good.

Pros: came with bass blockers, installed in series with the speaker, can turn it up to its peak with bass on and it sounds amazing.

Cons:

Tinny Sound

Timothy from Charleston, SC on 12/27/2017

Pretty sure its a personal sound issue. But I found certain pitches and instruments became too high pitched. Put the stock Charger Tweeters back in and the sound is acceptable again. I cant say this is an issues with the speakers, per say. Just may be my ears. I replaced all the other speakers with Kicker speakers and am quite happy.

Pros: high pitched sound killed it for me.

Cons: Pretty much said it.

Bought these to replace dash speakers in 2015 Kia Optima. Chose these as there is minimal clearance in the dash. These fit great. Sound is awesome, stock speakers don't even compare. I had previously replaced the door speakers with JBL, but am considering upgrading those to the 6.5 inch version of the Infinity speaker.

Pros: Speakers sound great, excellent choice for dash with limited clearance

Just installed these 6x9's in my rear doors along with the Infinity Reference 3022cfx 3.5" speakers in the front dash in my 2013 Ram Longhorn with the premium Alpine sound system. Following the instructions from Crutchfield was easy especially with the plug and play wiring adapters, took me about 2 hours. Huge sound quality difference, especially clear and distinct mid and high tones. Got these on sale so great value and great upgrade.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these to upgrade the factory Bose dash speakers in my 17 Mazda 3. If you know anything about Bose, you know they still use cheap paper cones and flimsy surrounds on all of their "Premium speakers" Which honestly does take a toll on audio quality. After installation (which was for the most part straightforward) I tested them out and I was blown away by the difference. The original Bose speakers did not have a separate or dedicated tweeter so one of the first things I noticed was the clarity with the Infinitys. It really was a night and day difference. The difference in sound quality makes me regret not doing this sooner. When really cranked up, these can really handle the load without distortion, which was not the same to say of the Bose. I feel like I can rediscover some of my favorite songs now, being able to hear things I could not before. 100% worth the upgrade.

Pros: Clarity accurate highs with integrated tweeter Power handling ability

Cons: No hardware included for install (Screws, spade connectors for speaker connections)

Great difference made in replacing original equipment "tinny" sounding speakers; love the difference

Pros: Huge improvement in sound over original equipment cheap speakers.

Cons: It would be helpful if Infinity would include written installation instructions and a checklist of what is included in their packaging; what was provided was extremely deficient.

Wowza - What a difference these speakers make.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am in awe of the difference in sound from just changing only the in-dash speakers. As usual, I freaked myself out a few times and had to call tech support, and Eli was super helpful. When I change out car parts, I count on the reviews and ratings others have left. In fact, I don't leave many reviews, but these deserve special attention. I love them!

Pros: The sound is spectacular. Easy to install (once you realize that it really can be that easy). For my car, they were an exact fit and I was able to use the existing screws.

Cons: My car only - The dash was terrifying to pull out. General - Crutchfield sent wiring adapters to use the factory connection on these, and the speakers come with resistors. Now I need to splice the resistor into the adapter. Not a big deal, but something (small) I was not expecting that would need to be done.

Just installed these this morning in my Ram 1500. Installation was a breeze with the adapters provided by Crutchfield. I think they put out more bass than the stock 6x9's in the doors. Currently running off the stock head unit, and these are a noticeable upgrade from the stock speakers. My plan is to replace the door speakers with the other Infinity's to get a nice balanced sound.

Great sound from small speakers! Another home run for Infinity. As with every component speaker I have upgraded with Infinity over the years: you can expect great range and excellent sound production. From deep lows to deafening highs, clear accurate and undistorted! Highly recommend to anyone.

Pros: Excellent sound and clarity as usual from Infinity!

Cons: None! Recommend you do your homework on your component system as you may need to install a component amp.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound great with crisp highs. The OE speakers in my 2017 Rav4 are junk. I now also get some mid level sound with these Infinity speakers with the supplied capacitor from Crutchfield. It cuts out the bass. I found a wiring harness that works, so you don't have to cut up the OE harness. These speakers are working OK with my OE HU.

Pros: Great Speaker for your 2017 Toyota RAV4 . High quality sound from mids to highs.

Cons: None

Incredible sound for their size

Patrick from Mobile, AL on 10/30/2017

I got these speakers as a gift. I put them in the dash of my 2017 Camry (factory radio) and they are incredible sounding. I did not use base blockers and they have more sound and mid bass than the factory 6.5" speakers. They take the factory radio with no distortion to the max volume. I had infinity reference 3.5" in my last camry, this camry, and will get them for any vehicle I have in the future....

Pros: Great highs and mids, incredibly clear sound, and high quality.

Cons: None

2017 Dodge Ram 1500 Sound Upgrade!

Anonymous from San Tan Valley, AZ on 10/30/2017

2017 Ram 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these on my new 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew cab to replace the Alpine corner dash speakers. I also found the existing Alpine speakers to sound muddy and lacked the presence I would expect from a premium sound system. The Infinity REF 3022 CFX made a vast improvement over the stock Alpine corner dash speakers. The overall sound is much better but may require some additional upgrades such as the rear door speakers. But as my system stands now it's definitely worth the upgrade to the stock speakers. I did not replace the center dash speaker and don't know that I will at this point. If you have a Dodge Ram with the Alpine system then at the very least you need to replace the corner dash speakers with something like these Infinity's! I don't believe you will be disappointed and the install is pretty simple and takes all of about 20 minutes using the supplied Metra wiring kit that Crutchfield includes with the order.

Pros: Improved sound and worthwhile upgrade!

Cons: None

These speakers did not come out as expected. Maybe i got a bad set, I don't know. But what I do know is that I can't turn the volume up more than half without having them pop like if they were twenty year old speakers. And the way I have my system set up I don't even set the bass high, I have it on the lowest possible setting so the most heard is only the vocals.

2017 Ram 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For my intended purposes of just replacing the front dash speakers in my Ram 1500 and keeping the rest of the factory speakers, these didn't work for me. As a stand alone speaker, they are really great. I was really excited to get these based on the reviews. On the positive side, they generate a ton of crisp highs, blowing away the stock stereo speakers. And that's the problem. If you only install these in the dash, the rest of the stock speakers sound terrible and you cannot balance out the rest because the highs of these are too loud and you can't hear the factory front door speakers. Even after I purchased a new set of new front door speakers (Polk DB+652 6 1/2") and installed, I still could not get the Infinity speakers to balance out and they were still too loud. (Note, Infinity does not have a 6 1/2' speaker which fit in the door of my Ram truck, which is why I went with the Polk.) I believe the issue in my situation was the true 4ohm nature of these speakers, along with the 91db sensitivity and the ultra-high end these speakers produce. I have ordered the Kicker 44ksc3504 speakers as a replacement. The Kickers have a 88db sensitivity along with a silk tweeter, so hopeful they will be a better match for what I have in my truck. After I get them installed, I will leave a review for them as well. As always, Crutchfield customer support was outstanding. Best in the business.

Pros: PROS - Very high end speakers, with outstanding highs.CONS - High sensitivity (91db) along with true 4 ohm technology make it difficult to balance out with factory / other speakers.

Cons: CONS - High sensitivity (91db) along with true 4 ohm technology make it difficult to balance out with factory / other speakers.

Great upgrade for the OEM Alpine front speakers in the RAM

Mike from Swansea, SC on 9/12/2017

2012 Ram 2500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After listening to the factory Alpine system in a friend's 2017 RAM, I knew I had to upgrade at least the front speakers in my 2012 RAM (also with the Alpine). These Infinity speakers are fantastic - there is absolutely no comparison to the front factory speakers they replaced. These speakers excel at bringing out vocals and subtle highs - piano and guitar notes are crystal clear. Could not be happier. I installed these to replace the three OEM dash speakers, but really liked the separation when I played only the two corner speakers (that I installed first). Right now all three speakers are hooked up, but I may disconnect the center speaker in the future. A small 7mm socket/ratchet is helpful for installation and, as others have noted, a box/open end 7mm wrench is a must for the center speaker screw that's closest to the windshield. The speaker connectors provided by Crutchfield's really helped make the install easy.

Pros: Clarity and range. The high notes are so much better than the OEM speakers and the bass is appropriate and sharp. Great performance for the price.

Cons: Non.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Researched front speakers for about 6 months. Spoke with 2 different Crutchfield advisors and both recommended these. Mounted 3 in the dash and the sound was so much better than stock. Much more detail. A bit of equalizer/fade and it is a much more enjoyable music experience. Next will be the rear doors (already on order) and we'll see if that balances out the fronts even more. Would have given 5 stars had the bass blockers worked.

Pros: These little speakers were easy to install. Excellent detailed sound.

Cons: Tried installing these with bass blockers (600hz) and unfortunately they created a popping sound at every start up. Will return these.

Way too efficient.

Pros: Infinity is a very trusted brand the highs were high and lows were amazing! You get the best bang for your bang! No regrets on these speakers! Best decision i've made! Great stock replacement!

Cons: Nothing wrong but will update if something comes up

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Build quality is good, sound is too. Clear highs and miss, serious upgrade from MOPAR stock paper. Super stupid swash install, thanks to the good folks at Crutchfield. Got it on sale, winning, all the way around.

Pros: Good build, tweet is clear and crisp, adds depth.

Cons: Polished trim reflects through speaker grate when in sun, about noon. Speaker plug is very delicate, can bend.

Swapped these out and instantly was kicking myself for not doing it sooner. These are not powered through an amplifier and I do not believe I will have to. The sound is so much better. Great highs.

Pros: Ease of Install, Sound, clarity.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent speakers! Fit perfectly in the dash of my 2014 Challenger with the SG2 upgrade. Noticeable improvement in the highs and power over the factory speakers. If I had one negative thing to say it would be that they are a little on the tinny side. I adjusted my fade 2 notches to the rear and much better.

Pros: Sound, fit, quality, highs.

Cons: A little on the tinny side.

Great clarity and surprising bass for the size! Really noticeable volume increase. So much so, that I'm planning on replacing the front door 6x9s with the Infinity references as well!

Pros: Clarity, efficiency, punchy bass

Cons: Reveals how bad factory speakers are!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got these to replace the factory dash speakers in my 2017 Scat Pack Charger, the volume on them is a tad lower than the factory speakers but the clarity is 100 times better. The treble from these things are amazing and can be ear bleeding. The sound from my Hertz 6*9s in the rear dash now have an equal match coming from the front of the car. I would recommend these if you have a dodge vehicle.

Pros: Fits perfectly where factory speakers were Clarity High quality Ear bleeding treble

Cons: I honestly dont have any

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound quality is excellent. I have been pleased with these speakers and they fit my 1981 Mercedes Benz 240d W123 body style without and major modification. I slightly bent the tangs so the tweeter fit comfortably under the dash cap. I purchased a Blaupunkt CD Radio player to replace the original Blaupunkt and the Infinity speakers both in front and back make it a pleasure to go on even short trips up town.

Pros: These speakers have a fantastic sound. If you enjoy listening to music these are the speakers to purchase.

Cons: None

2015 Toyota 4Runner
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the factory dash tweeters with these speakers in my 2016 4Runner without JBL audio. Compared to the factory speakers, they provide a slight upgrade. These speakers offer a little more clarity in the highs and vocals, but they don't have the ear-piercing tweeters like the last set of Infinity Reference 6.5" speakers I had 10 years ago. The biggest improvement that I've noticed is that I can hear pianos and some of the upper-mid frequencies better with these speakers. I have them wired through the factory harness which includes a bass blocker, mounted using a 2" mending plate and the XTC 3.5" speaker baffles which I cut a hole in the bottom of for the wiring. I'm satisfied enough with these speakers that I'm going to stick with them, but as always, I think I would've gotten a little more if I'd have been willing to spend some more cash.

Pros: Upper-Mid Range Clarity Price Efficient (91dB) Don't need an amp

Cons: Tweeters aren't what I expected

Better than expected

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The sound of these speakers isn't shy of the $300 alpine speakers I have in the front of my Camaro, they are very loud and crystal clear. Little to no bass comes from them, but they do a great job at hitting the high notes

Pros: High pitch

Cons: No bass

Great upgrade from OEM

2013 Chrysler 300
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Finally decided to do this upgrade for my dash speakers of my Chrysler 300. Was hesitant to dig into the A pillars and dash defroster grille but it turned out to be really easy. No tools needed, just fingers. You Tube it. This is same as for Dodge Charger and probably Challenger. The Infinity speakers fit great and the Crutchfield supplied leads/wiring harness adapters fit perfect. Don't procrastinate...if you have a Mopar with the crappy OEM speakers (supposedly Alpine but their name isn't anywhere on these made-in-China posers) then you need to upgrade right now! Crutchfield ordering, delivery, and packaging were just fine.

Pros: The speakers sound awesome! I thought my hearing was going as I approached 55. OEM sounded ok, just lacked punch and liveliness. No more. Now I can hear every cymbal and high frequency note crystal clear. Great smooth midrange and even some bass. Wonderful upgrade.

Cons: Not a speaker con but an installation con...on my car the speaker lead is very short and I lost hold of it when I disconnected from the existing speaker. They fell down into the bowels of the dash. It took an extra 20 minutes, a helper with flashlight, and a long gripper tool to fish it out. Be extra careful on this step. Connect some black tape and a lead to it before disconnecting.

well worth it

2016 Toyota RAV4
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

this is a well-made beefy small speaker. it comes with two capacitors to limit the bass but at least in the dash of a RAV4 I found them unnecessary. I don't feel they are being over driven and their base is far higher than anything else in the car. the fit was perfect in the dashboard but they definitely can be improved by a foam baffle. I took off one star because the directions are terrible that are packed with the speakers but luckily Crutchfield techs were very helpful. Lastly soldering leads to the posts was easy with no collateral damage.

Pros: Sound quality and overall build quality, with very tight base

Cons: Directions

Features

Plus One+ Woofer Cones: Each speaker uses a cone significantly larger than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a unique basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One+ design offers greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Tweeter: Each speaker has a balanced dome tweeter. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone. Balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter.

High-Output Design: The 3Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring, extracting more power from factory (or aftermarket) receivers. This results in clearer, richer sound for the listener.

Crossover: The included 270 microfarad capacitors are 1st order crossovers (6 dB/octave); the crossover point is approximately 196 Hz. One capacitor is wired in-line with the positive input of each speaker.

I have had mine for about a year and they work great. The sound is louder, crisper and has way more death [ Evan  Oct 01, 2017 ]
Jeff, the REF-3022cfx work great in the dash. Don't worry about the resistance. If you have a system with the center speaker, I would recommend disconnecting that one as well, it'll give you better stereo separation and it won't really be able to keep up with the Infinity speakers anyway. If you disconnect the center also turn off the surrounds setting on the radio. [ Bruce  Oct 01, 2017 ]
Have a 2012 RAM 2500 and 2017 RAM 1500, and both have this void. No baffles needed and the sound of these Infinity speakers is awesome - better in the 1500 than in the older 2500 (probably due to the better head unit). [ mike  Sep 21, 2017 ]
No baffles. I had a huge void after replacing my door speakers in my Chevy truck with this Infinity series. I didn't think theses 3.5" would make that big of a difference in the dash. The impact of these infinity 3022s highs and mids filled the void I didn't realize that was so bad. Work awesome with only factory amp! [ Steve  Sep 08, 2017 ]
You do not need a baffle, I installed them without a baffle and they sound great. I prefer the sound of the open-baffle. [ Rico  Sep 06, 2017 ]
Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
