Invest in component sound

With a new component system, you'll hear the details you've been missing in your car's sound system. Infinity's Reference Series REF-6520cx 6-1/2" component speaker system offers exceptional clarity, thanks to 3/4" edge-driven textile dome tweeters that bring out all the details in your music without sounding harsh.

Big woofer = big sound

The tough polypropylene woofer with its durable hi-roll rubber surround delivers surprisingly strong performance. Each Plus One+ woofer sports a significantly larger cone than speakers of similar size, adding plenty of punch to the speaker's smooth and accurate highs.

Perfect for any power supply

You can power these speakers with up to 90 watts of RMS power — they'll work well with an external amplifier, but they're also a good match for a factory radio or aftermarket stereo. Plus, these 3-ohm speakers combine with the speaker wire in your vehicle so your car stereo sees actual 4-ohm impedance, so you get a little more volume out of your system.

Amazing and easy upgrade!

Adam from Folsom, CA on 1/9/2018

2005 Toyota 4Runner
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price, I have gravitated towards Infinity separates in previous vehicles, and finally made the move to replace all of my factory 4Runner speakers with Infinity Reference speakers. The install was a bit more complicated in the 4Runner because I had to make custom tweeter mounts for the front doors (which I made out of a snowboard wax scraper, and just cut out from tracing the stock tweeter mount), and carve a bit of door panel away due to the location I chose for the crossover. I am powering them with an Alpine KTP-445, which made an impressive impact from the head unit power. In my opinion, the sound is as great as you can get for the money, and Infinity has their great reputation for a reason. Crutchfield also supplies most installation pieces, which, aside from their customer service, one of the reasons I shop from them.

Pros: Amazing sound and upgrade from factory speakers Price is great

Cons: Being separates, a little more difficult to install, but totally doable at home.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Reference series has been the standard for many years and for good reason. These things are a huge step above OEM speakers, even over Sony's "premium sound". I'm pretty sure the woofers louder than the factory sub too. Louder, cleaner, no dead spots in the frequency range. I couldn't ask for more.

Pros: Clean sound Deeper bass

Great set of speakers

Young from Los Angeles, CA on 12/12/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed it the front doors of my 2005 Chevy colorado. The sound off of these are notably superior to the factor speakers. They include mounting brackets in the box but they do not include any speaker wires. I drill extra holes in my door to attach the speaker as these are not direct replacements. Luckily I had some extra 16 gauge Rockford speaker wire. I have these running off a Pioneer 4200 NEX. Although the sound quality is decent these speakers from the Pioneer headunit they need an external amp to power them properly. I like the additional +3db but I forgot to press the button for driver side so I had to remove the entire door panel to push in the button on the crossover. The crossover is quite large. High's are crisp but mids are lacking, again you need to power these properly and not from a headunit. Distorts at about 27 volume level on the 4200nex. Crutchfield included a set of GM harness adapters whiched worked perfectly with these speakers. You will need extra speaker wire and connectors to complete this install. Overall I am pleased with purchasing these. I got them as a Cyber Monday deal with the matching 6 1/2 coaxial for the rear. Arrived in three days to Los Angeles via UPS. Next project is to buy a 4 channel amp with at least 75watt RMS to power these bad boy properly.

Pros: Price, Highs

Cons: Mid bass, lack of speaker wires, large crossover

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used these to replace a blown factory door speaker in a 2012 Audi A6. They were so much better then the stock 10 speaker system that I bought a second set and replaced the rear door components, and then bought a Reference 10 to replace the rear woofer. I will warn you that the passive crossover is large and it wouldn't fit between the door panel and door surface since the Audi's door panel is cluttered. I had to run the wires then used double sided Automotive tape and put it inside the door. (hope it holds)

Pros: -Runs well on low wattage factory Amp.

Cons: passive crossover is large

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced the stock JBL speakers on my 2010 Tacoma with these. I installed them in the front doors, along with Dynamat to compliment the sound. I installed the crossovers next to the amp behind the rear seat. Sound is crisp and detailed. I set the crossover switch to 0db, as the +3db setting was too bright. Tweeters are still a little bright and required a little EQ to get them sounding just right.

Pros: Great build quality, Detailed Sound.

Cons: Tweeters are a little bright and required some tuning.

2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall these component speakers are crisp, clean, and deliver excellent quality sound. The sound is bright and smooth and has excellent frequency range. I was quite amazed at the degree of tuning these speakers could handle; especially when tuning the audio for a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. The only downside to these speakers was the quality of low end. When paired properly with a sub woofer it's hardly noticeable; however, on their own I'm not impressed with the low end frequencies or lack thereof.

Pros: Crisp, Clean and high degree of tuning

Cons: Woofers lack low end oomph.

Packaging is very good. Tweeter comes with multiple mounting options. Crossover is simple to hook up. little big but fits in map holder door pocket. Sound is clean and crisp. Does ok on bass notes for being a small speaker but focuses on mids to highs. Over all good speaker for the price.

Pros: Clean crisp sound. Multiple mounting options for tweeter.

Cons: Crossover a little big but does look good if visible. Wish woofer screen was not so bulky.

Almost as good as the Kappa's. Tune right with amp sound great. Paired up with Rockford 5 channel with 6.5 coaxial in rear. Rock style quality!

Pros: Tuned right they sound good with nice mids!

Cons: Crossover tad big to mount and tweeter only has 6inch speaker length.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good improvement over the stock speakers. Mid-range is not that impressive (the main driver covers both bass and mids), use of an EQ to bring the mids in helps significantly. Gave it 4-stars because there's always something better out there, just maybe not as economical.

Pros: Good value for the price.

Cons: Installation is going to take a while. The crossover box is pretty big and takes up a lot of room (which most door panels don't have a lot of). Installation hardware (screws) was lacking, but nothing that a run to the local hardware store won't fix.

Excellent Value. Great performance. Superior Crutchfield Support

2000 Toyota 4Runner
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First the speakers...then the installation... The speakers are great. Very good value. The tweeters have a surprising amount of sound coming out of them. The highs where what I was shooting for, but a lot more comes out of them. Impressive. The lows that come out of the 6-1/4" speaker are equally impressive. This speaker truly gives a full spectrum of sound. No complaints. As for the installation. Regardless of your car, be aware that the crossover box is quite large. Check the specs and understand the size will limit the places it can/will go. I ended up having to install it inside my car door storage pocket by my ankle. This was less than idea, but it worked. Sound quality considering the value of these speakers is a 5 or of 5 stars. Overall its a 4 out of 5 because of the huge crossover. Crutchfield is off the chart. This company is amazing to work with, they are 10 out of 5 starts. I installed these into a 2000 Toyota 4Runner (front doors).

Pros: Excellent value. Wide range of clear highs. Very good lows and even a bit thumpy!

Cons: Crossover is very large and will make installation more difficult and limit where you can put it. With enough motivation, you'll find a way. Good luck.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

i had Infinity Reference 6022i speakers before and upgraded to these after 5-6years+, and they sound waaay more clear. partly because the tweeter is mounted up higher now and not down low on the door. they also seem to handle slightly more power compared to the others that were 2.4ohms, these are 3ohms, but higher rms and you can hear it. running them with a Kenwood KAC-8401 amp and 12 awg speaker wire. also when i bought them they weren't on sale, they went on sale like two weeks later, i called Crutchfield and they quickly refunded me the difference so of course i got another pair after that. now my brother wants a pair lol

Pros: lots of tweeter mounting options, infinity logo is an optional sticker to put on the tweeter also. i like them without the logo.

Cons: wish they came with terminal crimp ends for the mid/tweeter to make the installation easier.

Have used Infinity in many other vehicles and have never been disappointed. The trend continues. Replaced the factory dull sounding speakers in my F150 and what a difference! Fantastic sound with clear highs and decent lows. Not that brain numbing bass some might need, but good quality deep tones. Install was a breeze with the Crutchfield adapter and wire harness. Woofers

Plus One+ Woofer Cones: Each speaker uses a larger cone than other speakers of the same size. This is accomplished by using a unique basket design and hi-roll surround. The Plus One+ design offers greater bass output and an increase in efficiency.

Hi-roll Rubber Surrounds: The hi-roll rubber surrounds allow the woofers a greater range of movement, resulting in longer X-max and more bass output.

Mounting: Without an adapter, the 6520cx woofers fit standard 6-3/4" applications. Given their required cutout, they will also fit 6-1/2" applications without an adapter, but new screw holes must be drilled. Using the included adapter brackets they can be mounted in a wide variety of 6-1/2" and 6-3/4" applications, without any modification.

Tweeters

Material: Each tweeter features a 3/4" edge-driven textile dome for smooth, accurate highs.

Mounting: The I-Mount tweeter mounting system and Starfish mounting brackets give you several different ways to mount the tweeters:

  • I-Mount: The tweeters can be surface- or flush-mounted with Infinity's innovative I-Mount system:
    • Surface Mount: Surface mounting the tweeters involves screwing the surface-mount cup to the mounting location, then inserting and locking the tweeter into the cup.
    • Flush Mount: Flush mounting is made easy through the use of the threaded flush-mount housing and plastic locking nut. Once a cutout is made, the tweeter is installed in the flush-mount adapter, then into the flush mount housing and inserted into the hole. The large plastic locking nut is threaded onto the adapter (from behind the mounting surface) to hold the complete assembly securely in place. When flush mounted, the tweeters may be angled for optimum response and imaging.
  • Starfish Mounting Brackets: The Starfish mounting brackets allow the tweeters to be installed in factory locations behind the grilles:
    • Bottom Mount: Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is secured to the underside of the grille panel. The tweeter must be inserted into the bracket and locked into place before the bracket is mounted.
    • Surface Mount: Once the Starfish bracket is trimmed, it is screwed to the top of the mounting surface behind the grille panel. Then, the tweeter is inserted into the bracket and locked into place.
    • Flush Mount: There are two sets of tabs to flush mount the tweeter in the Starfish bracket, yielding different mounting dimensions. The upper tabs mount the tweeter completely below the opening and are glued in place. The lower mounting tabs are screwed in place and result in a mounting height just under a half inch. Once the bracket is mounted, the tweeter is inserted into the bracket and locked into place.

Crossovers

Selectable Tweeter Output Level: Each 2-way crossover allows you to select the tweeter output level according to system requirements and personal preference; the tweeter level can be set to +3 dB or 0 dB.

Connections: The crossover inputs and outputs are screw terminals; they will accommodate bare wire or spade connectors up to 0.31" wide. There are four mounting holes in each crossover.

Dimensions:

  • Width: 4"
  • Height: 1-1/8"
  • Depth: 3-1/4" (plus wire)

Specifications

High-Output Design: The 3Ω voice coil design compensates for the high in-line resistance of small gauge factory wiring, extracting more power from factory (or aftermarket) receivers. This results in clearer, richer sound for the listener.

Infinity Reference REF-6520cx component speaker system

Written by Duffy, Advisor, on 11/7/2016 4:46:00 PM
This component system far exceeded my expectations. Paired with my factory radio and the Infinity Kappa K5 amplifier, the woofers deliver a surprising punch while maintaining the smooth and true highs that I was aiming for. I was worried that the tweeters would be a little too harsh for my taste, but thankfully, this wasn't the case. The dome tweeters allowed me to discover details in my music that I had never before noticed. I really love that this component system brought out the vocals in my music without having to sacrifice the full range of frequencies found in the body of the music.

I have been using infinity speakers for my highs and mids for most of my cars and the clarity is amazing regardless if am running four subs you still hear the treble and midrange perfectly fine.. The Twitters are not harsh and the mids don't scream either just sweet music to my ears.. that's all I got to say about that. [ STEPHEN  Nov 24, 2017 ]
Great reviews from friends [ Colin  Nov 24, 2017 ]

was an offer I could not refuse I am a JL audio guy but the price for quality could not be beat so I will give these a try [ COURTNEY J  Nov 26, 2016 ]
they sound good, and the price was awesome [ Paul  Nov 25, 2016 ]
They were on sale at an incredible price. I've owned Infinity Reference Component speakers in the past and have been very satisfied with them. As an added bonus, these components are 3 ohm speakers so they should work very well with my factory head unit until I choose to upgrade the head unit. [ Robert  Nov 25, 2016 ]
i want clear sound in a speaker my girlfriend cant blow [ joseph  Sep 30, 2016 ]
it was a recommendation made from the sales person [ isaias  May 29, 2016 ]

no, per speaker. i am pushing about 100rms into mine with a 160hz hpf on a 24db slope [ Kevin666  Jul 04, 2017 ]
Works fine with my GMC pick-up, but based on the junk that i pulled out of my front doors, an upgrade would be wise. you could do it in stages if you want. [ JOHN  Oct 11, 2016 ]
I wondered the same thing but after reading various Crutchfield guides I found that the sensitivity of 93 dB makes these speakers work well for factory units and you can also upgrade later with an amp if you like. My setup sounds great with just a factory deck! Very crisp sounds and some bass but not ear drum shattering like you could get with an amp. Overall very happy. [ Joe  Oct 11, 2016 ]
While not absolutely necessary, in order to really take advantage of the great sound these are capable of providing, it is highly recommended. A stock receiver probably would not handle it well; an aftermarket receiver with a higher output might provide decent sound and could be hooked up in the short term while you shop/save up for an amp; but for the long term/permanent solution, an amp would really bring these speakers to life. Best of luck. [ Jeremy  Oct 10, 2016 ]
I would use and amp to run these speakers. [ Cole  Oct 10, 2016 ]
Anywhere 16-18 gage will do the trick. [ Austin  Sep 17, 2016 ]
You can use a range of 12-14 gage to the Amp. [ Donald  Sep 15, 2016 ]
I used 14awg wire for my set up. I'm using a 45w RMS x4 amp [ Eric  Sep 13, 2016 ]
It depends on how big of an amp, quality 16 gauge is usually fine but some people like 14 for higher power handling. [ Promit  Sep 13, 2016 ]
I didn't end up installing the Infinitys, exchanging them instead for Focals that worked with the factory wiring for my 2000 Jetta. My general response though would be to use quality wiring sized to fit your connectors properly both at your source unit and the speakers and that you will be able to successfully dress in the space available in the car. I don't think gauge or quality needs to be excessive in the car because it is a high background noise environment with limited space to dress cable properly and subtleties of high end cables will probably be lost. [ Eric  Sep 13, 2016 ]
Chris, It really depends on how much wattage you planning on sending to each speaker but I wouldn't use anything smaller than 14 gauge. If you are planning on any later upgrades or adding a subwoofer I would recommend a minimum of 16 gauge to minimize resistance. Hope this helps you! [ David  Sep 13, 2016 ]
Depends on the length of your run. Google it! [ Adam  Sep 13, 2016 ]
